- Yael/Nahum (Unaffiliated) – Temple of Life -
Yael had to weigh the options; food or stay hidden, food or stay hidden. Oh the tough decisions of war. Mabel's promise of saving them for later had him calm enough. Besides, Yael was old enough to wait. He had been waiting for a few lifetimes, he could wait for a little bit longer, couldn't he? When Aisilin mentioned her reason about harvesting Itika, however, he tensed. He could not help it. It was one of those goosebumps that sent a shiver down your spine from something you could not explain. Oh he did not know what this meant. But he did not like it one bit.

- Vincent (Ignis Court) – Vicus Elbii–
Vincent was raised in the city. He was a city boy. So these kind of towns always took him off guard. So much space! But they had more important things to do than to contemplate over their upbringings. The one building that stood out among the landscape was a tall, three story building. Vincent would sigh and move his hands to his hips. "Well, it is a good place to start." He looked back at the group. "Let's go!" He said, and off he went straight towards the building. They were getting closer. Would this actually lead to anything? Maybe? Maybe not? But they would not know unless they chased it. They had to look into everything. Regardless how small. They would approach the home, and Vincent would look back at the group, and pulling Pali closer to the front. "Lets not scare anyone, alright?" He asked, giving the rest of the group some thumbs up. He then turned back to the door and gently, but firmly knocked on it.

- Arun (Ignis Court) –Sanctus Heights: Grand Cathedral Library –
Arun watched as he stood up and seemed to be in a hurry. Arun nodded and tilted his head. "Well Vlad just had some questions in regards to a translation. I am sure that he is fine." Though it wasn't Vlad that he was probably worried about. Didn't matter. Arun didn't have the braincell at the moment. He nodded and decided that he would walk away to find a book of what he was searching for. "I cannot read Latin." He admitted, walking over to Quinn as she seemed to be studying something herself. He searched around the library, trying to see if he could find something in regards to magical constructs. It was beginning to irk him. There was no advancement in the investigation...so he might as well try and find something for himself while he was here. There was nothing in the Ignis libraries.

- Arkane (Umbra Court) – Caravans: Vivifica Forest–
Arkane looked over as the old woman insisted that they needed to search the premises for the culprit. "But...we are in Vivifica territory. Could just be a vivifica mage screwing with us?" It made most sense. They were intruding in their territory, and it wasn't above mages to mess around with those they considered the enemy. Umbra mages have done a lot of that with guests and a couple of skeletons. But he guessed that she had a point. "Alright alright. Do not lose your head." He mused, pulling out his flute with a spin. He played a tune, and much like expected of him, the summoning sygils showed up on the floor. Out came around 3 decayed, undead wolves, mangled and of bone and flesh that had been stopped from rotting through magic. The fourth summon was just Hector the undead pug. Arkane whistled his command to them. 'Search for the source'. And off the wolves went, slowly sniffing the floor and spreading across, searching for what their master searched for. Hector would look up at Arkane, tiltng his head. Arkane looked down and gestured to the surroundings. "You too!"

- Daruk Mordem, Ignis Court, within the Temple of Life at conference -

Daruk craned his neck toward the sentry that hovered over his shoulder and nodded in understanding. It was indeed far from his homeland, and he was certain that even if there was any pertinent information to the common peruser of a newspaper none would pick up something pertaining to a foreign place that otherwise holds no news beyond the occasional house fire and cat burglary. That is, unless they like comics. He certainly enjoyed the funnies column.

As Aislynn spoke, however, he furrowed his brow in concentration, stroking his stubby beard idly as he looked on into the middle distance. He was not exactly one for tradition himself, and under different circumstances he might have done the same. However, this hidden truth of Aislynn's baffled him, especially in regards to her curious question involving going to the Spirit Realm. His hazel eyes remained focused elsewhere, but he appeared confused.

"Mabel's blessing?" he asked in like, glancing over to the priestess in an attempt to gauge an understanding. "I admit that this is mostly over my head. Does anyone else understand what Aislynn is talking about?"

- Pali Noirtier, Umbra Court, in Vicus Elbii searching for Lady Tekka -

Pali gave Vincent one sharp look regarding not scaring anyone, not that he planned to do so, at least in this establishment. Fear can be a powerful ally and source of his power. Following Vincent's lead, he stepped close to the front and did his best to act passive. He leaned on a manifested cane from his household, sent through his limited summoning skills, and looked about at the scenery and architecture with a quick, not too discerning eye so as not to seem distracted. The place was picturesque and reeked of open pasture and comfortable living. What a dismal place, but he had to agree that the buildings were well constructed and with artful flourishes that rivalled his antiquated manor.

- Jari Coriander, Somnum Court, within the Grand Cathedral's library -

Jari's eyes widened and ears perked up, the latter of which were less visible beneath his fox-like earmuffs. The young man before him had a lot of talent for being a cryomancer and learned a lot of the basics quite easily, with some advanced things thrown in, at least from what it sounded like. Absorbing heat and letting heat out is a technique he could only dream of, and would be very useful for chilling or heating his favourite foods, though if it was faulty and without government he could definitely see the dangers.

Before he could get a word out, Kolm seemed distracted by a name mentioned previously mentioned of Aquilla. Jari had thought nothing of it beforehand, but something rang differently to his ears. A different flavour of worry . . . love, perhaps? Whether a love of friendship or a love of a stronger breed, he could not tell, but he cracked a slight grin, choosing to believe it was the latter. Having been a bit of a lover himself, even if it was under pretenses, it felt as if he was not alone in this regard if he so chose to believe.

"Of course. Please feel free. We can discuss this matter sometime later."

With that, he would allow Kolm to leave, but then he focused his attention on the other individuals. Arun seemed focused on whatever he was hoping to find, which is understandable, but the maid struck him differently somehow. Did he see her before? No, that might not be it. He was not here for a fair while and the cleaning staff might swap out at a given hour to help keep things tidy throughout the days of the week. He let the sensation pass him by and sat back down to study, deeming it skepticism and probably nothing, though it was odd to see a maid check out seemingly random books like that before continuing cleaning.

Nero remained calm throughout Aislinn's explanation, that's what it looked like on the outside, on the inside she was already thinking about different possibilities and outcomes. Her fellow maestra wasn't any different as she had been before. Calm, collected, gentle, the same Aislinn as always. The question about taking a trip to the Spirit Realm caught her a little off guard.

"I think livid is an understatement, but you know that the Elders love to keep their rules and regulations in check," Nero replied, "As for a field trip to the Spirit Realm? I suppose that if this field trip can provide the answers that we need, then it wouldn't be a bad choice."

The Somnum Maestra put her arm on the arm rest of her chair then rested her cheek on her hand. She looked more laidback and relaxed than she had looked before, maybe even surprising a few of the mages present, a true mage of Somnum they would say. Not her fellow maesters and maestra, though, as they surely knew that she tended to be that way when all of them were together.

"A great leap of faith sounds about right, Asilinn. You're not only asking us to trust you, a maestra that has been labeled a traitor, but you also want us to let you take us to the Spirit Realm," Nero said as calmly as always before smiling, "I say let's do it. In all of our years knowing each other, you've never given us a reason to doubt you."

Nero then looked at Daruk and shrugged.

"It seems that Aislinn will show us the real reason as to why she needs all the itika she and her court have been gathering."

The Maestra's eyes then focused on the Priestess.

"What is your answer, High Priestess?" Nero asked, "There has been no reason to doubt Maestra Aislinn since we arrive to the temple. I say we should give her a chance to explain her side of the story."

Vala smiled and then looked at the Lieutenant.

"I think that could be a possibility, yes," Vala answered, "I think it is safe to say that you should work under the assumption that your current predicament is the result of such scenario. There was a way for this man to extract the itika and use it to return from the Spirit Realm."

"I'm afraid that I do not know the answer to that question, Lieutenant," Diane replied, "But don't worry, I can take Elia to look for her sister once my business is is concluded."
Hiding information was not something new, it had been done since the ancient past. Sometimes such information could be passed down by mere word of mouth to avoid others finding out secrets.

"Information can be hidden in many ways, but sometimes people would like to have any traces of events erased from history. Perhaps this First Court is one of them," Vala answered.

"Do not worry, Lieutenant. While it might look as if we haven't made any progress, it is quite the contrary. We have leads, paths that we can follow to find the truth, If you would be so kind as to share the address of this Elena, I would be grateful," Diane said, "Oh, and like I said, I could take Elia and try to find your other daughter. She might be being questioned, as she was on the scene of the crime. Or, perhaps, another place of residence. In any case, I thank you for your help, Lieutenant. I know the past few days have been quite stressful and I am sorry you and your family had to be dragged into this situation."

Vala's eyes were focused on the pale woman as she spoke. It was surprising to see her act in such a way, she was a lich after all. She wondered if there was something else happening with the mysterious woman.

This was certainly different that the city. Green open spaces everywhere. She liked it here. Perhaps she could live here, she had liked staying on the ranch before. Would she be allowed? Houses here looked like middle-class houses, which wasn't that surprising. The three-story building quickly got her attention.

"Well, there's only a few mansions, yes, and this one seems bigger than the others," Incarose said, "But wouldn't be weird and a little sad that Miss Tekkanororia would live all alone in such a huge place?"

She quietly followed the group, at this point the scenery had her full attention. This was such a lovely place. When she heard Vincent say that they shouldn't scare anyone, she had to hold a laugh. She hoped that Miss Tekkanororia could provide some answers to this whole mystery.

- Henry Heid - The Sun - Outside of vivifica -

Though sheer ill fate, or the application of some clever illusion magic, Henry and his party had been beset by ravens, coming at them from nowhere. Albeit not able to damage anyone or cause any more trouble than a distraction or an annoyance, Henry shot a few bursts of flames towards the flock as they came, and was surprised as the ravens seemed to be...well...inflammable? That ticked him off something was wrong.

Deciding to Ignore Mia's remark with a light scoff as he jumped out of the carriage as he began to look around. A hand to his chin. "Why beset us with ravens the moment the elders had just entered? what's going on?" He pondered. Before the pessimist in him reached a grim realization. "I don't think this came from a Vivifica mage." He spoke his mind to his fellow mages, hopefully they thought the same.

- Arno Cross - The Bounty Hunter - Inside VIvifica -

While Saffron maintained the bubble of air magic to conceal them, and Vaike handled the illusions, Arno kept a steady eye out, for literaly *anything*, any movement from the mages that signaled they were onto them, any stifled breath, any gestures from their bodies that would indicate danger he was keeping an eye on, he maybe blinked only three times during the entire air sphere maneuver to get inside, his rifle in his hands as he kept behind Vaike, pushing him forward to make sure the man didn't fall behind, and that way he could keep a better watch of the surroundings too.

The moment they were inside Arno allowed himself to blink, and readjust his focus, the place was beautiful, much like all other courts it carried the cultural and artistic legacy of the mage court it hailed from, Vivifica was close to nature and spirit magic so it was no wonder the court would be in the woods and have a big motif as such. It was a beautiful place, but beauty had long since been at the bottom of priorities for Arno, no time to appreciate the environment. "Fancy." Was all he said when Vaike mentioned the surroundings, right before Tibarn said his piece about the place crawling with magic...and yes it was indeed crawling with magical power, or at least the residue of it...enough to make Arno's skin crawl as his own magic began to connect to the surroundings, causing mild discomfort to him whose's magic was always self destructive. But it was also soothing? He couldn't place much of a finger in it, but he felt as if he was lighter? he didn't quite understand all this magical mumbo jumbo enough to care though.

Tibarn turned to him and asked him what now. "We can't waste time. The Priestess's already in." He spoke back in his general blank and serious tone. "Gotta find a way to blend in..." Arno spoke, knowing full well they'd look naked and out of place, but maybe Saffron's origin in the court was enough to avoid problems?

- Richter - The Hand of The Maestra -

The Spirit realm?! Such revelations surprised Richter for sure, but his resolve was steeled to a point he didn't show surprise, not wanting to show weakness and that he was out of the loop to the other maesters as to not arise suspicion in general, he glanced at Aislinn the both times she glanced over to him, perhaps she was seeking his approval? he gave her a slow but hard to spot nod in approval of her plan, showing that he still had her back, and he was ready to follow her into whatever she needed him to.

Daruk's question about such things were of no surprise, Richter would allow himself to explain, were it not for Nero's portion of the talk soon afterwards. Who surprisingly seemed to agree with the entry of the spirit realm and whatever that entailed, Richter was relieved that he took the diplomatic option, other than preparing for war and bloodshed with them, as per Zion's previous announcements and arrival. There was also the fact that the Archangel also riled up the elders, but that was a sermon for another time.

Richter patiently awaited for the progression of the talks, he stood guard, ever watchful and steady.

- Vlad - Awkward situation - Aquilla's Room in The Cathedral -

Vlad was...well...surprised, bewildered and just plain taken aback when Arun just up and decided to leave the room to go to the library. "Are you just...ye, ye he's leaving...that boy goes by the beat'o'his own drum now doesn't he?" Vlad fliked a tongue and looked up, and sighed. As he looked at Aquilla before taking the book. And listening to her reasons for leaning latin. "ye, and I was educated in it...a few hundred years ago" He let that last part slip, as Arun's sudden departure caught him by surprise. He figured he'd take the book and read it outside of Aquilla's room as he allowed her to prepare to leave.

"I'l wait for you outside" Vlad spoke, as he just walked over to her door, opened it and left her room, and leaned against a wall beside the door, book in his hands. "Alright now...what have we here." He muttered as he would then begin to peruse the contents of the book, maybe he could find something of interest with his, rusty, but knowledge in latin?

Outside the temple, Magellan was quietly perched on a tree, pruning his feathers, meanwhile Mel was busy grazing the foliage around the building. It wasn’t long until something disturbed the two, a swarm of birds. It was the illusion Vaike had set up to hide the bounty hunters. Mel was unsure of what to make of the illusion, but his ears and eyes targeted Magellan, who flew down in curiosity of the spectacle. Regardless if the group noticed the pigeon, he would eye all the birds.

Mel was unsure of what to make of the illusion, but his ears and eyes targeted Magellan, who flew down in curiosity of the spectacle. Regardless if the group noticed the pigeon, he would eye all the birds.

A few moments pass, and Magellan finally starts to show signs of stress, he takes a few steps away before finally flying into the temple with haste. Mel seemed confused by his friend’s reaction to, seemingly, a swarm of birds.

Back at the Temple

As Jynn sat down at the table, he turned down the food offerings, instead, he was more interested with what Aislinn had to say. Most of it was acknowledgment of the weight of her actions, but when the Maestra mentions the Spirit Realm, Jynn’s curiosity peaked. Gathering Itika to prevent a threat from resurfacing into this world? This was definitely news. But, as always, Aislinn neglected to specify.

Suddenly, Jynn’s head started to pound, he lowered his head, appearing to have a bad headache. While everyone was conversing, Mabel would notice Jynn grabbing his head and muttering words. “Threat....... Spirit......... Realm.........” This would continue a few moments before Jynn regained himself. He’s not sure what just happened, but he mostly ignored it.

However, this did spark some curiosity from the mage. He faces Aislinn. “Hold on. This still leaves more questions than answers, and I feel that this situation should be dealt with cautiously. What type of threat are we dealing with? What are their means of escaping the Spirit Realm?” He places his elbows on the table. “I hate to be blunt, but it almost sounds like we’re throwing ourselves at an enemy we know nothing about.”

He leans back in his chair, crossing his arms. “And even if you do in fact know how to deal with it, why are you withholding information from the other courts, your allies? If this threat is as big as you imply it is, don’t you think it would be dangerous to go in ill prepared? Do you have a contingency plan in place if things go south?”

The high priestess attempted to keep a straight face at the mention of the Spirit Realm, but she was failing. She grew incredibly pale, eventually rising from her seat and splaying both hands on the table.

"We must not go to the Spirit Realm!" she protested, as Nero asked her thoughts. "That would be certain death. It is not meant for humans, and the Maestra is suggesting that we dabble in magics that are forbidden."

In response, Aislinn merely shifted a gentle smile toward the priestess. "I am merely suggesting that we use your gift of opening a rift between realms to slip inside." As Mabel shuddered and glanced panicky toward Nero and Jynn, Aislinn's smile shifted slightly to a frown. "But ah, it would seem that you haven't told your friends of your dark gift of being able to converse with spirits, or to open the rift to their realm. I wonder what else you have refused to divulge, dear little Secret Keeper."

"We must not listen to her," Mabel said finally, shooting Aislinn a glare. "She is a traitor to the courts. Why would she be telling the truth? She is merely trying to pit us all against each other." She looked toward Nero. Which side would the maestra choose? She is bound to the council, to Mabel, but would she still? Nero still seemed to have trust in Aislinn, which concerned her. "While, yes, I do have the ability to open a rift between realms, I do not recommend that we do this. There are reasons that the mortal and spirit realm are separate. We do not belong there, and I have reason to believe that the former Maestra wishes our demise rather than any aid."

The Vivifica Maestra seemed rather calm in response to Mabel's accusations, merely folding her hands on the table. She turned to Maestra Nero. "Indeed, your questions would be answered, and I would better be able to formulate a response if you would be willing to undertake this task with me. I thank you, dear Nero, for being willing to take this leap of faith with me. I assure you that I would never violate your trust, and that I have Regalia--and everyone here's--best interests at heart."

When Jynn began his muttering, Mabel was unable to conceal her concern, calling out his name and reaching toward the blind mage. "Jynn! Jynn? Are you alright?" Mabel asked, biting her lip and gripping his shoulders. She watched him concernedly as he voiced his thoughts, nodding in agreement and looking toward Aislinn to hear her response.

"I do have a contingency plan," Aislinn responded to her heir. "And I am very well prepared. It is why I have been gathering Itika all this time, dear child. The threat should be unable to harm anyone here if we are together and act quickly. I have a secret weapon that can be used against this force. All that it requires is that I be there, and have the Itika to use it.

"Even if you all do not wish to come with me, that is fine. I just need the High Priestess to open the rift, so that I may go, and someone who is willing to bring all of the Itika that we've collected with me." At this, she turned to Richter. "Richter, may I ask you for a favor once more? Would you be willing to be by my side again, and perhaps bring along the Itika that we have harvested?"

At this, Mabel's eyes widened. "Absolutely not. I refuse."

Mia wrinkled her nose, glancing over at Arkane at the suggestion of it being a Vivifican mage that had conjured the illusion. "Perhaps, but that was a very powerful illusion. One that emitted both sound, wind velocity, and visual. While there are powerful illusionists within Vivifica, it is not what the court is known for. That is more Somnum work, but we are vastly far from Somnum, for there to be a Somnum mage here. I am also not so sure Vivifica has any further reason to toy with us. They have what they want, at least for now."

She clapped Henry on the shoulder at his mention of this not being Vivifica mages that they were encountering. "I would agree, my boy. We must search for this illusionist, as I have a reason to believe that they assaulted us for a reason."

Mellark stretched and yawned. It could be presumed that he'd just awoken from a nap. "All right, all right. Where do you boys want to start?" He asked Henry and Arkane in turn. Meanwhile Kiran was sprawled out on the grass, leaping up at the mention of search, and went over to Arkane's side.

"Seems like something important is happening," he muttered, offering his master a sideways grin. "Do you need me?"

"Well, blending in shouldn't be too awful difficult," Tibarn said, glancing around with a raised eyebrow. "Looks like we just start taking our clothes off and wrap ourselves up with vines. I mean, sheesh! What's with these guys and their sense of decency? Don't they know this is a bit, er, distracting?!"

He jerked his head toward one man, who seemed to be a bit more modestly dressed in simple cloth and an ornate headpiece. "Well, that's better, at least. Maybe some of these mages have a taste in clothing, after all."

"So our first order of business, I agree with Arno here, is to not make a spectacle," Vaike agreed. "We need to find the priestess post haste, before she can do anything that we'll all regret. Perhaps we should split up. We would be less conspicuous if we're all separate. Plus, if one of us gets caught, there's the others that can hopefully get the job done."

Shortly after Vincent knocked on the door, a man answered the door. He was dressed simply, in a crisp white dress shirt and black slacks, with a tie. His blond hair was slicked back, crystal-blue eyes locking onto Vincent, before turning to the others. He was perhaps no older than twenty.

"Hello," he greeted kindly. "What can I do for you fine ladies and gentlemen?"

He seemed friendly enough, not intimidated by their statuses as mages, if he even had been able to discern it. He held his door open rather wide as he spoke with them, allowing a glimpse of a home filled with splendor. A chandelier hung over a very ornate dining room table to the man's left, and there was much light from rather large windows filtering into the home. The man appeared friendly enough, and not particularly threatening.

Vlad would see drawings of maps, locations. However, the maps were of lands that he had never seen, likely far off from Regalia. He would see a map of Ad Astra, the land that he would know was at war with Regalia over 1000 years ago in the Cold Massacre War. He would also see other continents, along with a continent that was labeled "Regalia," but it wasn't any Regalia that he had ever seen! The continent was much larger, with lands beyond the Cliffs of Valentia that no longer existed, and the valley of the Umbra Court was connected to the continent, no longer separated and tethered by the Big Bridge, as it was in the present. Clearly, the geography of Regalia changed drastically since the atlas that Vlad held was printed.

The rest of the book appeared to be an atlas, with descriptions of locations and more maps. He would hear footsteps approaching, followed by the appearance of the new mage that they'd found in the infirmary. Kolm would glance at Vlad hesitantly, appearing slightly sheepish. He was partially intimidated by the Scot, but also was embarrassed that he'd assumed the worst when Vlad was casually hanging outside of Aquilla's room with a book in hand.

"Um, hello," he greeted Vlad. His gaze fell to the book, noticing that it was very old and worn, but he chose not to comment on it. "I am a friend of Aquilla's. The name is Kolm Diarisso. Is she here?"

Elia seemed pleased that Diane was thinking of her sister. She wrapped her hand around Diane's, glancing up to her and said, "I have a few ideas as to where she might be. Perhaps we could search together? I am very worried about her . . . . I hope that she's okay."

The lieutenant thought for a moment, before responding to Diane with the address that he'd last known Elena to reside at. "She is a retired widow, with a modest estate. She's a bit hard of hearing, so you might have to speak up."

Elia moved from her place at Diane's side to give the lieutenant one final hug, before grabbing her bag and getting ready to depart with the Lich. Before they left, however, Lt. Mastiff spoke up once more. "Oh, and Diane? Thank you, truly. You have gone above and beyond to aid us in this investigation, picking up the slack where I am unable to proceed. Not only does the office thank you, but I do on a personal level. You are doing much for me and my family, more than you know." With that, he gave them a final nod. "I wish you the best of luck."

Nero looked in the Priestess' direction with a slight hint of surprise after her outburst. Who know the young girl was so against the idea of going into the Spirit Realm. Nero also noted the slight change in Aislinn's face.

"I think that if she feels there's no need to divulge her secrets, then no one should push her to do such thing, yes? No matter what her abilities are, from the moment we answered the summons up to this point, her secrets have been of no importance to any of us," Nero said to Aislinn, before glancing at Mabel, "but as you can currently see, High Priestess, we are not fighting among each other. We hare here, talking, nothing else."

The Maestra sighed and closed her eyes in contemplation. This was going to be a strained meeting. Hearing Aislinn's words made her feel relaxed, but Mabel made her feel preoccupied for the young girl.

"I cannot recall a single time in which Aislinn has betrayed our trust. That is not to say that we do not keep secrets from each other. Each one is in charge of their own courts, after all," Nero said calmly, "At the same time, we are bound by the rules and laws of the council. And to the priestess by extension. So, if she does not want to open such a rift, then I'm afraid we will reach an impasse and there's nothing else we can do."

It was good to hear that the Maestra of Vivifica had a contingency plan, but there were many variables in place. She was sure that most people in the room did not know what they should expect in the Spirit Realm, so this was a huge leap of faith.

"Then again, and forgive me for saying such thing, Aislinn, at this point, it's either she agrees to do it or what? force her to? We are in the middle of your temple, after all. But I fear that if the worse scenario were to happen, then you would give the elders and the other courts the necessary reasons to truly deal with the Court of Vivifica," Nero said, looking at Aislinn.

What to do? What to do? That was the question. Mabel was the key of all this, and the one person that could either open the rift to the Spirit Realm or initiate a war with Vivifica if she somehow got hurt in the process.

"And Mabel, please sit down and think this logically. It is true that we do not have a reason to trust anything that Aislinn says, but she is giving us the chance to find out the answer to the questions we need," Nero said, "sure, she has been harvesting itika, she didn't offered answers, she didn't answered the call from the Elders, but we can work together to obtain what we came to learn."

The Maestra once more closed her eyes and then glanced at Mabel.

"You told me that you were the highest authority, and as such, I will follow your command, but please take into consideration what lays beyond your choice," she said, "we either reject Aislinn's request and, somehow, we end up fighting each other, they force you to open such rift, they get what they really want and the Elder declare a true open war against Vivifica. Or we follow Aislinn's request, we learn the reasons as to why she was harvesting itika, what this threat is, and see if there is a way we can prevent whatever it is that it's trying to do. This is your choice High Priestess. Just thinkin carefully before making it."

Incarose looked rather relaxed now that the events of the last day were gone from her mind for the time being. This place was so relaxing. The sound of the door opening made her focus on who was opening it. It was a man in a white dress shirt and black slacks. He was handsome, she had to admit that, but that was not the reason they were there.

"Good morning. Sorry to bother you this early in the morning, my name is Incarose Vassar, and these are Vincent, Shiroo, Anya and Pali. We are looking for Miss Tekkanororia," Incarose answered, "you see, there has been a few events that seemed to be connected in Sanctus Heights. An automaton coming to life, sudden fires in Central Square, an attack on a lieutenant. And the name of Miss Tekkanororia stood out thanks to a clue that the lieutenant gave to one of the mages that is helping in the investigation."

It was hard to explain the events of the past few days, it was almost a complete blur at this point.

"If we could have a little bit of Miss Tekkanororia's time and if we could ask her some questions, that would greatly help us in this conundrum."

"Then we should hurry up and look for her, yes? Before she gets worried about you too," Diane replied to Elia before turning towards the Lieutenant, "and thank you for your help, Lieutenant. I assure you that the other mages and myself are trying out best to find answers to this strange chain of events. Don't worry, I will make sure to find Miss Elena and to take care of your daughters."

Diane nodded at the Lieutenant's words, and after Elia left the room, she turned to look at the Lieutenant once more.

"No thanks are needed, Lieutenant. I once knew the pain of watching those who you love suffer. I will do whatever I can to keep your daughters safe." Diane replied, "Keep taking care of him, Vala. Perhaps send a letter home? Ask if there's anything they can do to help the Lieutenant."

"Sure, sure, no worries, dear. It's not something hard to do, after all," Vala answered, "He will be in good hands until you guys come back. Now go, Elia is waiting for you."

And with that, the Lich followed after Elia in an attempt to find her sister or find the address that the Lieutenant gave her. Whichever came first.

- Yael/Nahum (Unaffiliated) – Temple of Life -

Yael was doing double takes as he listened to this information being dumped on them. It was overwhelming, to say the least. Everyone was keeping secrets from one another, from the world around them, and now that everything was being laid out...it made sense and yet sent shivers down his spine all in the same vein. He could feel his hair stand on end. As far as he had heard, it all went down like this: Aisilin has discovered a threat located in the spirit realm, and instead of warning the rest of the courts, she took it upon herself to collect Itika to use it against this force...which she has not done yet. Had she been waiting for Mabel this whole time? Asking her to open the rift, let her in, and use the itika...or was she waiting for witnesses? They were here to make peace, not to fight, but whatever could this turn out? Yael spoke up, whispering to Mabel's ear with a gentle tone. "Whether you decide to open the rift is up to you. We do not know what these threats or truths are, or what exactly she plans to do with the Itika in the first place. Be cautious. I...I do not trust this." His tone grave, unlike his usual cheery and casual one. He was uncomortable with the situation and was already getting angsty. It required self control to keep his claws in as to not hurt Mabel from it all.

- Vincent (Ignis Court) – Vicus Elbii–
Vincent was expecting an old woman, but all he saw was a young man. He blinked a few times, Incarose doing a wonderful job in explaining it. Vincent would add to that. "We...wish to ask her some questions in regards to some of her writings, if possible. Specifically some journals that she had written in the past." He then placed a hand on Pali's shoulder and patted it playfully. "Our friend here, Pali Noirtier, knows her personally if that helps." Vincent added with a smile.

- Arkane (Umbra Court) – Caravans: Vivifica Forest–
Arkane had already sent his summoned necromantic hounds to search for anything out of place, the three spreading out into multiple directions. When Kiran spoke up, Arkane turned to face him, arms crossed. "Had a nice nap?" He asked, pointing at their surroundings. "Seems we have an illusionists hiding in our midst." He frowned as he had to think hard about it. How were they going to do this. His attention turned to Henry and the others. "We need to spread out starting from the carriages and outwards to possible positions. Search for clues and for whoever it is that is messing with us." He insisted, pointing at different people. "I will go north. Everyone else choose a direction and spread out and search. Should you encounter something or someone let the others know so that we can come and help you. Do not try to take on this illusionist by yourself, but do not let it escape either. This includes you, old hag." Arkane insisted, watching the dogs sniff away at the surrounding areas to make sure that they didn't miss anything. His eyes landed on Kieran. "You be careful as well. Illusionist mages are the masterminds of tricking all of your senses. Keep yourself sharp." He offered, turning away and beginning to walk north, with either side covered by his summoned hounds.

- Daruk Mordem, Ignis Court, within a meeting of the Four Courts within the Temple of Life -

Daruk felt hard-pressed as he continued to stroke his slight beard, looking between the Four Court leaders and Mabel with furrowed brows. Secret Keeper? Traitor? Strong words were being tossed between the two girls that he knew were less stony than Thea Nero, but thought of as still calm and collected. Mabel seemed to be hiding something more than her astoundingly unique ability, that is to be certain. However, was he too trusting in Aislynn's judgement? Was his viewpoint clouded by years of knowing the maestra? He wanted to do the same as Lady Thea, but a growing doubt opened up within him. Why was the High Priestess Mabel so adamant about not visiting the Spirit Realm? Was there truth in her words or Aislynn's or both? How grave could the situation be if they opened a rift between there and here? Finally, he spoke.

"While I trust your companion would carry the Itika for you, I wish to be the one to carry it, Lady Aislynn, as we go through the rift. You are asking us to trust you, and against a steadfast wave of pressure from the Elders I am choosing to do so, as long as you trust us too."

His eyes leveled with Mabel's.

"Priestess, I do not wish to instigate a war against someone of Aislynn's steadfast integrity that I believe to have some harboured truth. Please assist us. Whatever force lies on the other side of this . . . this doorway cannot best the power of a unified Four Courts. Believe us when I say we can handle ourselves, find out the truth of the situation, and get out with a better understanding." He pursed his lips and leaned his head forward and sideways, eyes maintaining their gaze into hers. "If you have news that none of us know, besides perhaps Aislynn, I petition you to iterate it to us. Armed with knowledge, things would go much better."

- Pali Noirtier, Umbra Court, at the doorstep of a manor in Vicus Elbii -

Pali was surprised by the fact that there was a young man there at the front door. A grandson, perhaps? There were some traits of him that seemed to hint at a relationship, but two generations of difference can mean very different traits.

Vincent's pat on his shoulder quickly refocused his attention, and Pali gave the Ignis non-mage a bit of a grimace, very much disliking being touched anywhere. If not for the sake of the others and perhaps himself, he would have attempted to kill and possibly convert Shiroo within the coach after the dullahan was struck down for the strike he landed on Pali's person, no matter the "benevolence" of the action. Nevertheless, he played along and smiled up at the young man in the door frame.

"Yes, we go way back. It has been a while since I have seen Tekka, and we have much to catch up on even outside of this case. Is she in?"

{Gerik Lockford: Umbra Court; The Temple of Life - Interior}
Despite Aislinn's apparent direct appeal to him, Gerik remained impassive as he considered the implications of the suggested field trip. He had read the records of Umbra mages who had tried to enter the Spirit Realm. Considering he got access to them because the previous owners were clearly dead didn't exactly make him hopeful. But Vivifica had talents and knowledge that Umbra didn't. Perhaps a safer path to the Spirit Realm.
Mabel's reaction was expected and would buy time. Nero and Daruk's, however, was an unexpected thorn. Their faith in their friend was sappy and must be blinding them to the dangerous of the situation.
"Aislinn, I want to be able to believe you like my esteemed colleagues." Gerik said smoothly. "But I need something more to believe going to the spirit realm is a good idea. I am not so willing to side against the High Priestess on your word alone. I understand that you think showing us something is the best way to convince us, but if you want full support, I feel you need to at least summarize what it is you are breaking the laws for."
Leaning forward in his chair, the Umbral Maester's countenance shifted from his usual smiling facade to one more serious.
"As you have been doing what you think is necessary, attacks against the other Courts and our very society have been carried out. My spies tell me of a man claiming to be a prophet has sworn the over turn of the Council and Courts altogether. And that's not even the most worrying information I have received about this individual. And now you want me to further subvert the structure that keeps our world from chaos on simply your word? No. Not even for you, Aislinn. You want my help? I need more. I need to know you aren't pulling me on some sort of wild goose chase as real threats face my people. If what you face and the one called Invidia are connected, than tell me. If they are not, explain why your threat is more important without a causal jaunt to another realm of existence."

Anya enjoyed a good stretch before following the others to the suspected home of one Irasbeth Tekkanororia. Despite the rather dire situation that led to this investigation, Anya was enjoying herself. It had felt like ages that she had a good mystery to unravel. Back in the day with Shaw, that's practically all they did. Ah, the good old days, when it was just the two of them. Even the little drama on the trip over had been a nice way to get the blood pumping.
As the Investigation team introduced themselves to the young man who opened the door to the mansion, Anya chose to simply smile and wave, letting the others do the talking. She was particularly happy that Incarose to the initiative on this.

Jynn raises an eyebrow as Aislinn reveals Mabel’s powers. Interesting, but at the same time, it’s probably why she is the High Priestess. Mabel would be able to tell that the mage was a bit unnerved. Jynn faces Aislinn. “That’s great and all..... but how do you know that? How are you even getting this information without the other Courts’ knowledge? Not only that, if the High Priestess’s powers are the means of traversing the realms, that returns to my unanswered question; what are the enemy’s means of escaping the Spirit Realm?” He rises from his seat. “Now that I’m really thinking about these questions, you’re now starting to sound more and more suspicious.”

He listens to Maester Gerik’s arguments in agreement. “I cannot disagree with Maester Gerik here. My trust towards you has been damaged when you started gathering Itika. Thanks to that, we lost many Vivifican mages, and some were even arrested. A part of me thinks that you did not care about your underlings’ best interests or safety. Not even those closest to you know why you are doing this.” Jynn crosses his arms, looking to Richter before looking back to Aislinn. “Making me your heir does not quell my distrust and disappointment in your actions.”

For some reason, Jynn almost felt as if Aislinn might not be trying to eliminate the threat she mentions at all, instead, she might be trying to help them emerge to the living realm. The sudden gathering of Itika, refusing to notify the courts or her underlings of this threat, her hasty attitude, her knowledge of Mabel’s powers, her knowledge of this threat’s existence in the Spirit Realm, all of these actions are making the mage question his Maestra’s true antics. “I am starting to become incredibly inquisitive the more we talk. How can we be certain that you are not aiding this threat, intentionally or not?” Jynn was not certain how Aislinn will react, but he prepared himself in case things go south.

The conversation was interrupted by a black pigeon, it was Magellan, frantically landing onto the table facing Jynn, hissing and showing distress. The mage looked at the doors in response, knowing what the bird was implying. “Something or someone has breached the temple’s barrier.....”

The high priestess folded her arms across her chest, a frown tugging the corners of her mouth downward. "As you said, we have no reason to trust her," she said softly in response to Nero, voice barely more than a whisper. Beyond the frown, however, was fear, and anyone who knew her well enough would sense it. A long sigh escaped her as she ran her fingers through the ends of her hair. How she wished Arkane were here! He always had a way of talking sense into her, empowering her to make her own decisions.

Aislinn remained impassively seated at the table, hands folded on the table, seeming unconcerned on Mabel's response. Whether it was because she didn't care for the outcome either way, or she suspected Mabel to agree, was uncertain. Her dark-brown hair gleamed as clouds parted overhead, revealing a beam of light to cascade across the council table. She shifted her gaze towards Jynn.

"This information is classified, my dear boy," she responded, voice pleasant and calm. "Few look beyond the stories weaved by the council to unearth the darkness below the surface. Please trust me in that I speak only truth, and I am on your side. On everyone's side here."

Aislinn pondered Daruk's request for a moment, tilting her head to the side, revealing long earrings which jingled with her movements. "I suppose that is agreeable," she said at last. "You may carry the Itika. I trust you, though be forewarned: it is rather heavy. Richter has ways of transporting it via his magic that makes it more manageable, but you with your earth magic . . . ." Her voice trailed off, frowning as though searching for the words, but Gerik chose to fill the silence before she could continue.

"I'm afraid that I cannot tell you what it is that is leading me to do this." Her gaze fell to her lap, fists clenching her long, slitted skirt. "I have my reasons. I would tell you if I could, but I am physically unable. Please, please just trust me this once, Gerik. I will not let you down, I promise." She looked the Umbral maester directly in the eye, a battle of contesting wills, in hopes that the man would break before she did.

Meanwhile, Mabel fidgeted in her seat, clearly uncomfortable about this entire exchange. Finally she slammed her palms on the table, rising from her seat. "I need a moment, and some fresh air," the priestess said, shoving herself away from her seat. Many eyes followed her, but she didn't care to acknowledge them. She started to move away from the table as Magellan swooped into the room, relaying the information about a threat breaching the temple's walls.

The Vivifican maestra blinked, twice, slowly processing Jynn's information as though he'd suggested something absurd. "But . . . how? Who could breach Vivifica's impregnable walls?" she asked, before slowly turning toward Elliot and Richter. "Would one of you kindly see what it is that our avian friend speaks of? If someone is indeed there, please welcome them and bring them to this chamber. It must be someone who has some connection to Vivifica, thus they must be a friend of ours, whether they realize it or not."

A chuckle escaped Kiran as Arkane explained that the illusionist was hiding somewhere messing with them, and that they needed to conduct a search. "Aww, come now, scary necromancer," Kiran teased, elbowing Arkane in the ribs. "Maybe whoever it is simply is poking some fun at court mages. You are rather fun to tease, no?"

And yet, Kiran was the only one who wasn't taking the situation seriously. He watched in surprise as everyone else began to comb the forest, Arkane even sending his hounds to conduct a search. The hounds, however, would eventually come up empty-handed, whatever it was seeming to disappear near the stone which worked as the access point for the Vivifica Court.

Mellark and Mia had spread out, one going east, the other west, searching for this perpetrator and unaware of the findings of the hounds or Arkane. Kiran, however, remained at Arkane's side.

Magellan would soar overhead of the bounty hunters, but both Vaike and Tibarn thought nothing of it. Vaike stole away toward the east wing of the temple, while Tibarn would turn to Arno, Saff, and Gabriel, arms folded over his chest. "If you were the high priestess and an entourage of court mages," he started, doing a half-circle around the temple. "Where would you go?"

After a short while, a short young woman with auburn hair would approach the group, wrinkled dress of cornflower-blue swaying with her hips. "Looking for something?" she asked softly, smile warm. "Are you new to the court?"

The butler's face fell at Incarose's words and the mention of Tekkanororia. His lips drew into a tight line as he narrowed the opening in the door, concealing the view of the house from the mages. He leaned closer to them, speaking in a low, conspiratorial tone.

"Miss Tekkanororia hasn't been seen for some time," he murmured, voice low. "Rumor has it that she has gone mad. She lives up on the hill in the crooked house with a windmill, supposedly with her daughter."

He glanced at each party member in turn, before giving a slow nod to Incarose. "Is there anything else that I can do for you?"

As they passed by several inns and taverns, Elia would glance up to peer into the face of the Lich that she had grown fond of.

"So . . . . "she murmured in a singsong voice, spinning around so that she was walking backwards, facing the Lich and smiling. "Where to first? Find my sister, or this Elena that would hopefully have some answers?"

There is someone after Mabel, and he wishes to do her harm.” He continues to glance at the Maestra, narrowing his eyes. He so badly wants to interrogate her further, but he remembers his outbreak in the bed and breakfast, not wanting to show even more immaturity.

The thunder mage takes a deep breath, before looking at the rest of the party. “Please excuse me. I wish to make sure our priestess is going to be okay.” He finally takes a step back with Mabel. He remains quiet, not wanting to further upset the girl.

The tension within the room could be cut with a dagger. They had come all this way to find a way to settle this, and yet now that they had arrived they were once again in a standstill that by all means could go on for hours, if not days. The one dealing with the brunt of it all in the end was Mabel. She was just a young child just growing into adulthood, and she was the focus of all of this. The one to do the decisions that could mean life and death, peace and war between teh courts. And yet at the same time she had no real choice, did she? Always being led by the voices of the maetras and maesters. She was expected to give her own answer, while giving the correct one at the same time. In the shape of a ferret around Mabel's neck, he would lift his head as he heard that someone had intruded into the base. Well shit. "Mabel." He spoke, whispering to the child. "Stick close to the maesters and maestras. If someone is trying to sneak into the Vivifica Court they could be after Itika and-" He paused. His memories flashed before him, and he took a soft sigh. "...and they will do anything to get a hold of it." It was the only thing that he could think of other than a rogue member wanting to infiltrate the court. Regardless the shapeshifter remained by Mabel's neck and offered a rub of her cheek as comfort. "Breathe, child. Such a complicated existence...not even all of the maesters in this room know what to do." He then would turn to Jynn and give a small squeak at him. "Talk. To. Her." He hissed at him.

Finally. They had a location. A place that they could actually locate! The man would rub his temples and sigh modestly before looking around, locating the hill. The windmill was easy to locate in the end, because they could see it from afar. Now, by this point Vincent was running on adrenaline and spite and pride. He had bruises beginning to flush across his body that ached at every bad bent or touch, he was exhausted, and he was running on the fact that he would see this through one way or another. "Thank you so very much sir! Have a wonderful day!" He chimed, already turning to hurry away, already making his way to the windmill up the hill. There was little to stop him, as it was. If he was feeling any pain he would ignore it in favor of getting this shit done. They had to meet her. They had to talk with Tekkanororia and find the cause of the loss of life in that city. "To the hill we go." He muttered. He still had that smallest, tiniest piece of Itika in his pocket, and it was as if a reminder of how this all started. This damned thing.
Tekkanororia - Author of the journals. She encountered the Wraiths but was not believed by the court elders.

Valley of Magic - Where mages are laid to rest. The area is known for being a natural ground for Itika.

Wraiths of the First Court - Encountered by Tekkanororia. They claim to be from the first court. They are very powerful. The Elders of the Courts deny their existence.

Elia - Was tormented by a voice of a man and possessed momentarily by him.
"He said strange things, like souls granting him the power of rebirth. How the people would pay for their betrayal."
"...my magic would suffice his needs..."

Who were these members of the first courts?
Maybe Aislinn is also being possessed? It could explain the unexpected behavior.

Arkane gave a small glare at Kiran. "It is not the fact that they are illusionists. It is the fact that they are illusionists right at the court of Vivifica." Arkane snapped, looking at him with a bit of a glare. "We have delivered Mabel into the mouth of the wolf, within its den. If Vivifica wanted they could end up slaughtering us all or worse, but because of the laws of the courts we are demanded to give them the benefit of the doubt and find a way to keep war from happening." He was uncomfortable. He had made a spectacle to be one of the people to come here, but he was still...uncomfortable. Because at the time he had gotten to care for Mabel and now she was in there, yes with the maestras and maesters, but also with that witch Aisilin. He would greet his hounds and extend his hands, looking at them as they had brought nothing. He frowned and shook his head, looking at Kiran. "We are in enemy territory. After everything that has happened to us, can you blame us for being concerned? Regardless. It should bring calm to the old hag." He asked, turning to look at said old woman. "You hear that? Nothing showed up. Go be old in peace." He scolded, waving a hand to dismiss the old woman with little respect. However, his eyes did wander to the entrance of Vivifica Court. He frowned and pursed his lips, moving his thumb to his lip and biting down against it. "But maybe...I mean, she would be alone, even with that dumb ferret. Her beloved is a blind bat at this point too. I...I should go inside. Make sure that Mabel is alright." It is not that he did not trust the maesters and maestras. It is that he trusted himself better than them. The dogs would be whining at him, Arkane stepping closer to the stone where the Vivifica Court began. He turned to look at Kiran. "I...am not scared. I am merely concerned!" He corrected. Concerned scared for Mabel. "The old hag can stay out here and you can entertain her, Kiran, I should make sure that Mabel knows how to work her cards." He spoke, dismissing his wolves with the exception of Hector the undead pug, who would follow right behind. He was determined to enter the court by this point.

- Daruk Mordem, Ignis Court, within a meeting of the Four Courts in The Temple of Life -

The Ignis leader observed his fellow maester, his eyebrows furrowed as he cogitated what the man was saying. The news of a prophet who had voiced of the downfall of the Four Courts was troubling, but beyond that he somewhat spaced out, lost in growing agitation. Gerik may not have been the most trustful man, but Aislinn had been there through some tough times, and was beyond madness, right? Jynn, her young protege, jumped down her throat, and his knuckles turned white from hearing the insolence, whether or not it is the truth.

All of this discussion was a little fuzzy to the older man's head, however, and when he heard her voice he absorbed her words methodically. He felt compelled to believe her, matching Gerik's expectations of him, and welcomed Aislinn's response to his request, temper burning low to a simmer. He was no stranger to heavy lifting, and in fact was curious about how heavy this Itika could weigh. Earth magic, muscles, even fire magic to keep things aloft -- no amount of burden would slow him down with this heavy burden. No amount.

The distress of a potential spy in their midst, however, was not lost on him, and he pondered about who it was and what this person was after. Probably somebody up to no good, he thought, harrumphing audibly and adjusting himself in his seat. Should he follow Mabel who had moved away from the table, or should he stick with the other senior members of the Courts? He did not know, so he continued to sit down and remain silent, Aislinn's mentioning of the lack of being able to tell going completely over his head.

- Pali Noirtier, Umbra Court, at the doorstep of a manor in Vicus Elbii -

The dark mage nodded towards the butler, pleased with the information even if not entirely trusting of the youth. Something about the man seemed off, or maybe just off-putting. The information seemed too hastily brought into the light. Perhaps he was hiding something? Nevertheless, he was still smiling.

"Yes, thank you very much," he replied, the words tasting of unfamiliarity. When was the last time he tacked on "very much" to his thank-yous? It must have been one or two years, maybe longer, and he coughed as though he hacked out a spider web from that select wing of his vocabulary. "That will be all, yes, thank you. We are off."

He backed away, and once the man would inevitably close the door he turned toward the others. Vincent was already well on his way, the eager fool. He had a good head on his shoulders, but Pali thought him naive.

"Please continue. I will see if this man was telling the truth," he said to everyone else in the area, voice low and unsharp to not be heard elsewhere.

Muttering in low intonations as he backed toward the house and closed his eyes, he formed what looked to be a small eye from the shadows, similar to what he had done with the mysterious blue-haired man from earlier in the not so savoury clothing shop. The eye wheedled its way through the bottom of the door as a cloud of mist before reappearing inside, low to the ground, moving ever forward at a slow rate, and gauging the interior of the house. Pali really wanted to know what was being hidden, if anything.

"Are you scared, High Priestess?" Thea asked softly, "If so, then it means that you have a good head on your shoulders."
Thea looked around the room, at the High Priestess, her fellow Maesters and Maestra, and the rest of the Vivifican mages.
"Fear helps protect us. Fear can be like a warning, a signal that cautions us to be careful," the Maestra said while watching Mabel, "It makes us alert to danger and prepares us to deal with it. Feeling afraid is very natural. But do not let fear take control of your life. Unless it becomes a crippling weigh that you will carry forevermore."
Two things happened simultaneously in the next few seconds, Mabel was excusing herself so she could get some fresh air, and one bird had come inside and give some form of warning, which prompted Aislinn to react in surprise.
"High Priestess, please return to your seat while this situation is resolved," Thea said as her eyes wandered towards her fellow Maestra, "This is very convenient, Aislinn. And I mean very convenient. Hopefully this is only a misunderstanding that can be resolved without the need of any conflict. However . . ."
As the Somnum Maestra said that, she had spread trickles of water around the table, making a perfect circle while keeping the table, along with the other Maesters and the High Priestess, inside the circle, while everyone was busy around talking and paying attention to the discussion.
"I'm afraid that the safety of the High Priestess comes first before anything else."
With one final wave of her hand, the currently in the room would hear a peculiar sound, the sound of something freezing, they would watch as a crystal clear spherical barrier would form, keeping the table, and everyone close to it, inside.

There was something about watching Elia smile and be her usual cheerful self that made the Lich think that she was doing something to actually help someone. Unlike many times in the past. The sound of Elia's voice brought her back to focus.
"While some answers would be appreciated, I think that looking for your sister would have a higher priority as of right now," Diane answered in her usual calm tone, "I am sure she must be worried about you and, maybe, your father as well."
As Diane said that he rmind quickly went back to the moment the blue haired man had stabbed the Lieutenant in the tavern.
"It would be better to learn if she is alright befoer we go and look for this Elena person," she said, "Do you have an idea of where your sister could be, Elia?"

They had another lead to find the whereabouts of Tekkanororia and they were going to find her, no matter what. Vincent was already walking in the direction the buttler told them about. Incarose turned to look at the buttler after she realized that Vincent was walking away.
"Thank you very much for helping us out, sir," she said with a bow, "Sorry to bother you, and thanks again."
With another, quicker, bow Incarose was about to try and catch up with Vincent. Bot before hearing Pali's voice.
"A-alright. Just, um, be careful?" was the only thing Incarose said.
Alright, now she would totally catch up with Vincent!
"Yeah, to the hill we go, but let's be careful about it," she said, "We don't know if there's anything dangerous, so let's keep our eyes open, just in case, of course."

Upon hearing Nahum instruct Jynn to comfort the poor priestess, the blind mage takes a moment to consider his words, before finally talking to her. “Mabel… I’m… I’m sorry. This is all my fault. I brought you all here in a situation that could’ve been avoided. Had I known Aislinn wanted this, we wouldn’t be here. I will take any blame you wish to throw at me…” Tears start slowly rolling down his eyes. He is a fool. He did not take into any consideration what the Maestra wanted, and how it might affect others. But what’s done is done. There is no turning back now.

Jynn faces Mabel and holds her hands. He started to carefully consider his choices before landing on a realistic one. Tears continue to roll down his face, and he swallows hard. “Please believe me Mabel, I don’t want you to go through with this, I don’t want you to open a portal to the Spirit Realm. But… we are out of time…” He wipes tears from his face with his shoulder. “We have to weigh our options now; guarantee war with Vivifica, or take a risk with Aislinn’s suggestion, and I have doubts she will let us walk out of here quietly if we decline.” He looks to Richter, Aislinn, and Elliot. “I can’t find it in my heart to hurt my friends and fellow mages, not even Aislinn… But I also don’t want to hurt you most of all…”

He pauses. So many emotions are running through his head right now. Anger, guilt, distrust, love, and more, but he finally starts to collect himself. This was not his decision, nor his place to make decisions. “Mabel… I didn’t know this is what would happen. I was careless, I didn’t consider how bringing you here might affect you. Can you find it in your heart to forgive a foolish mage?” He closes her hands. “And whatever you choose to do, I’ll be here at your side, and we’ll get through it. Together.”

It was at that moment Maestra Nero formed a protective barrier around the table, protecting everyone inside from the potential threat that breached Vivifica’s defenses. Jynn could hear it being formed, but could not see it.

Zion and Eden - The Temple of Life

A Council Meeting, men wanting to breach the walls, men who already breached the walls - all of this, for the past half hour, had been ignored. As everything went on, they decided...no, it would be fine. They could spend a short time together, as spouses. And at the end of that time, they were tangled in arms and legs and sheets, pressed together. Foreheads touching, both had their eyes closed, but did not sleep. No, they just breathed. Taking in the other's presence, taking in their existence. But...the moment couldn't last forever. It couldn't. Eventually they both, reluctantly but knowingly, pulled apart. Neither knew when they'd be able to spend such time together again. They shared a bath - out of pure practicality, cleaning their hair was so much easier taking turns. Soon, though, they had redressed and were stepping out of Zion's room. Zion took her wife's hand, fingers interlacing with Eden's. The two began heading to the Council Room, Zion needing to know what was currently going on after she had spent a small amount of time with her beloved wife. Their boots echoed softly as they made their way there. Everything was okay.

...Right?

Eclaire glanced at Eleanor, at Feynne...then she patted Feynne's shoulder and gently nudged her to Eleanor, then turned and breathed in. Heading forward, tail snaking behind her, she approached the frantic dad agitated mage and rested a hand on his shoulder.
"M-Mister Arkane. Please. We made a deal with Richter Vanis. I...I understand you're...concerned. But please. It will only make things worse if we enter without permission. Tensions are already high and everyone's anxious. Let's...not make things worse? Please?" Eclaire pleaded with Arkane.

Makoto huffed a bit. "I hate waiting, Henry..."

Mabel's hazel eyes were glassy as they turned on to the Somnum Maestra, drinking in her words with consideration. "It is not fear," she claimed, whether true or not remained to be seen. "This goes against everything--everything--that I was taught and trained in. I cannot do this, and yet I feel as though I'm backed into a corner. You and Maester Daruk seem to think this is a good idea, and who am I to go against you both?"

She drew in a shuddered breath, suddenly feeling lightheaded on the spot. She started to turn away again when strong hands seized hers. The priestess stopped, blinked, and turned, seeing Jynn with tears streaming down his face. That face that she so dearly loved. She bit her lip, withdrawing one of her hands from his own and cupping his cheek, gently wiping the tears away with her thumb.

"I am not mad at you," she said softly, leaning forward and pressing her cheek to his. "I could never be mad at you, Jynn. You were just as clueless as I. As all of us. But now we have essentially walked into a trap, and decisions must be made. This goes against everything that I have been trained for, everything that I have been made to be. By doing this, nothing will ever be the same."

It was in that moment, taking in the broken visage of her beloved, of seeing the tension and fierce desperation from her companions that she knew. Just knew what she had to do. A grimacing smile stretched her petite lips, before giving a slow nod toward Jynn, forgetting that the mage couldn't see it.

"You speak truth, Jynn. You're right. And I will do it . . . ." She leaned forward, lips brushing his ear slightly as she whispered "for you." She strode back to her seat, gripping the back of her chair with both hands. She glanced at Gerik, who seemed apprehensive about all of this, to Daruk, who appeared slightly bewildered. Finally she glanced at Aislinn, who seemed irritatingly serene, and Thea Nero, who had become like the maternal figure she yearned to have. She dipped her head.

"I will open this portal," Mabel said at last. "You will display what you need to, but then you must agree to come back with us, back to Sanctus Heights." A tremble coursed through her, and the priestess looked at odds with herself.

Aislinn nodded, as though she expected nothing different from Mabel. "If you still feel that you must apprehend me after what I have shown you, then you are welcome to do with me as you wish. But I think your companions will feel differently."

The priestess proceeded to look grave and somber, as though she had just signed her life away. She didn't care that the barrier was brought up around the table, didn't care who might be looking for her. At that rate, perhaps those searching for her would be a fate better than the one she'd walked into.

"Now then," Aislinn said cheerfully, rising from her seat as well and offering a beaming smile at Daruk. "Shall I show you where the Itika is stored?"

When Zion and Eden walked in, they would find a barrier of clear ice surrounding the council chamber, protecting those within the dome from being assaulted from the outside.

A sigh escaped Kiran as he rubbed his temple. "Again, this is why you court mages are so darn difficult," he said. "So many rules and regulations. How is it that even YOU can keep track of it all? Why not just say what needs to be said, and deal with the consequences? Or perhaps I am not understanding."

It was true: all of this was confusing to the Outskirts native. Perhaps he was missing some vital point that kept everything from being simplified. Or, maybe, the courts merely liked to overcomplicate things. His expression softened, however, when Arkane voiced concern, noticing that his master's feathers indeed seemed ruffled about something.

"If you don't mind my saying so," he murmured, placing a heavily-ringed hand on Arkane's shoulder. "I think it is something beyond the illusionist that has you distressed. It is the girl, isn't it? You care about her, and are worried."

At Arkane's retort, Mia merely huffed, folding her arms over her chest. "You disrespectful little--" she started, then stopped, deciding that Arkane was not worth her time. A sigh escaped her as she hobbled her way back over to the carriage. "Try to stay out of trouble until they get back," she called over her shoulder.

Kiran watched from the corner of his critical gaze as Eclaire spoke words of reason with Arkane, to which he nodded approvingly toward. "Listen to the girl," he said. "And 'sides, they disappeared. We have no way of getting in even if we wanted to."

Or, at least that was what he thought.

The butler ducked his head in acknowledgement, looking slightly relieved when the mages made their retreat as he closed the door with a snap. Shiroo let out a yawn of boredom, before allowing his gaze to rove over to the hill. "Well, seems that we have our destination now. Let's goooooo!" He eagerly fell in step with Vincent, ready to get the ball rolling as much as his fellow Ignis companion.

The home on the hill was perhaps adorable in its prime, but that prime was long-since past. Old paint peeled from the paint, old wooden steps leading up to a deck filled with clutter and, frankly, garbage. A broken guitar rested merely a few paces away from Incarose. The door in front of them was a simple slab of wood with an old brass knob. One of the windows at the front of the building was cracked. From behind the house there was the windmill, which looked as though it served no other purpose than mere decoration in the present day--and a decrepit one at that. The property certainly didn't look well kept, nor did it smell the most pleasant. A musty odor reeked from the broken junk surrounding them, and Vincent would notice a mouse run across his foot.

Pali's eye would slither under the door with ease, taking in the grand foyer with the butler, back turned, dart into the main interior of the home. It was a relatively open floor plan, with windows everywhere to allow a fair amount of light into the room. If Pali's shadow eye roamed further into the home, he would find a well-dressed woman sitting before a piano in a pale-pink gown, crimson hair in tight ringlets. Her long elegant fingers stroked the keys, gaze downward as she fully absorbed the song that she was playing. Beyond this room the eye would rove into a grand living area, with an ornate rug in the center underneath a glass coffee table. A burgundy sofa, loveseat, and armchair rested around the coffee table, before them being a grand fireplace, currently unlit. A set of glass French doors were visible to the right of this room, where two men in business suits stood, glasses of some golden liquid in hand. One had a black mustache, which he would occasionally fidget with while listening to the other man drone on and on. He took a sip of his drink, appearing rather bored with the exchange. The butler approached the black mustached man, saying a few words, to which the man gave a nod and brief hand gesture before the butler bounded away, back into the piano room.

A grand spiraling wooden staircase, which would lead up to the subsequent levels of the home, rested between the two rooms. Whether Pali chose to further investigate, or remain in the room (or become an ear to hear the conversation) was up to him.

Elia nodded at Diane's words, dark bangs falling over her forehead. She looked visibly relieved that they were going to find Ariana. "She works at the bar below our house," she said. "But it is rather early in the day. I don't think they are open yet."

She would continue to muse over this as they strode down the street, watching as a school was letting out for recess, young elementary-aged children flooding a play lot. Their laughter echoed out across the street, ringing in the ears of the two. "Do you think she's in jail?" Elia asked finally. "What if she's a suspect after what happened in our apartment? Maybe they think she was the assailant?"

- Pali Noirtier, Umbra Court, outside and inside the manor in Vicus Elbii -

Pali took a moment to analyse the situation inside the manor, finding it even more extravagant than he had imagined. The sights, the sounds! The gentle, airy, and sometimes percussive plinks of a bright piano tune in the background. Blech. She was playing the music all wrong. It should be grave, morose, mellow, and sounding absolutely dreadful. The joyful sounds of music were a distaste to him for a long while, bringing back distant memories of times once considered better. He wondered what Lev would think of this place. She was always the cheerful one ever since her mother -- always miles away with her head in the clouds -- had left the family household, and when Lev too had left the cheer left with her, replaced by gravity and work.

Huh. Perhaps this place was not too bad for some. The light and beauty of the surroundings were representative of a peace not often considered by him, though with his servants he too can make a mansion like this . . . had the bodies not reeked to the high heavens in the sun and heat. Perhaps with Eau du Pali he would be able to change that in the long-term without high doses of wishful thinking.

Focus, Pali, focus, he thought to himself, frowning and startled. This was not a gloomy trip down memory lane, but a mission. The shadow zipped up to the ceiling and clung to the edges of the room, eye darting about in search of information. He caught the pianist, her hair bobbing jubilantly as she played, and the conversation between the well-groomed men in suits was inaudible to him. He had to be closer.

Zooming closer with his speedy shadow eye, he appeared above the well-groomed men and clung to the ceiling with shadowy tendrils. The eye morphed into a smaller eye and a comically large ear, its purpose to hear conversation incredibly well while tuning out the music for the most part. He wanted to snoop and hear what they were saying.

Outside the door of the establishment, Pali nearly startled himself into opening his eyes and breaking the spell when his third eye caught an old lady not only in the nuddy, but talking to the floating eye casually. The probe was capable of more than sight, but he decided to forego sight and concentrate on sound and speech, converting the eye into an ear and mouth attached by strands of smoke. He was not startled by an old wrinkled body -- he had seen worse cadavers in his private entourage shambling about -- but if this was Tekka he hoped to at least feign courtesy.

"Knocking and I are friends long distant," Pali spoke through the probe in low but young intonations, seemingly waving the comment off. "Would you mayhap be Lady Tekkanororia, writer of books and old, old affiliate of a certain Umbra Mage by the name of Noirtier?"

- Daruk Mordem, Ignis Court, within a meeting at the Temple of Life -

Daruk awoke from his bewilderment upon hearing Mabel's reply, blinking in surprise of the quick resolution. Was it that Vivifican boy that she had beside her? My, the joys of youth! That brought a smile to his face and a familiar feeling of elation that usually ends with boisterous laughter. He did have enough restraint within him to prevent a bellowing laugh from bursting forth, as the tone was somber still and Aislinn was still threatened with capture, but with renewed confidence he looked at the Vivifica Maestra, fire in his eyes.

"I would be honoured to carry this burden!" he exclaimed, voice bouncing within the ice dome. Looking about distractedly, he marvelled at its construction and elegance. Thea Nero was quite gifted. "When we convene next, I will be ready for anything, 200 percent. Thank you, ladies and gentlemen! GWA HA!"

In the end, he couldn't restrain his laugh after all. Such was engrained into his temperament.

"There are rules of etiquette to avoid wars, darn it." The mage would grumble. Squabbles inside the courts was not uncommon. How many times he had walked past what he could only describe as a pokemon battle between two corpses created by two different Umbra mages was something all on it own. Imagine if they had meetings with magic being thrown around like snowballs? ...actually they could solve so much shit so quickly. Arkane came to a halt when he was stopped by Makoto and Kiran. He would pause and turn back, glaring at Makoto because the audacity. But Kiran ended up giving his own input, and the more the mage looked around, the more it seemed that he would be having no back up on this. Not like he cared if he did. The old hag went to the carriage at least.

Arkane finally came to the conclusion that he had been ignoring for himself for half of the journey. He screwed up big time. He had broken his one most important rule; he got attached. Friendships, mortal desires, enjoyment, affection physical and emotional were all fine, because they could be done with his heart closed of and not having to worry about whether it would last. He could indulge in fantasies and what ifs, and if they did not turn out then he could move on and not have to be stunted by the aftermath, needing to recover. Even now in this team he knew that while he appreciated and respected them, should death come and take them he could let them go with a proper salute and the respect they deserve because he had long distanced himself from said possible, miniscule loss. But Mabel? Damn it. He had opened up a single crack and gotten attached to the girl and had actually become invested. At one point he had begun to actually be concerned for her. Sure, sometimes he pretended to be annoyed, but he worried. He saw the situation the girl was in and suddenly he felt the dread that he felt himself all of those years ago. You have no choice over your future. It is dictated or you. You get the disguise of a choice, all while people wait for you to make the one they expect, and if you screw up they would either harshly punish you or gently steer you into the direction. You were holding reigns that were not attached to any horses.

And Kiran had the audacity to call him out. Though he was right on his suspicions. "You-" He glared at Kiran, facing him proper. Arkane had always been a person who chose fight over flight in 90% of the situations. The man was stubborn the second that he hit puberty and that train ram right through the stop sign and had no sights in stopping. He looked around, eyes scanning between the two before groaning. If they indeed broke the promise that Ritchard offered, they could get into trouble. But Mabel was alone in there with two maesters whose main concern was to get back to their courts with a victory before dropping Mabel back to Sanctus Heights and forgetting her existence. Sure she had that dumb ferret and her blind boyfriend but what are those two gonna do to help? "So what if I do?" He finally answered Kiran. "They brought a child into what could be considered a meeting that could determine war between the courts and expect her to do it or else they will be disappointed and then it is all her fault." Now he was just reflecting. He turned back and looked at where the entrance would be, frowning as he raised his fingers to twirl around between his fingers, pulling on the strands from time to time. If he did end up going inside and causing a scene he could end up only making it more difficult for Mabel, too. Damn it all.

"...fine." He snapped his head at Eclair. "But if I hear a single thing out of place, a single suspicion, you are helping me get in there or I will drag you in myself." He could not enter, but Eclair could. Arkane still, remained close to the apparent entrance, instead just facing it, arms crossed and...waiting. He continued to twirl the strands of hair between his fingers, something that he did when he was stressed besides biting down on his thumb until he bled. "...she had no choice to this life. The least they can do is allow her to do her own decisions without having to judge her so harshly." Autonomy was a very important thing for Arkane, which was rather ironic for a mage that took control over dead bodies.

They had finally arrived. Vincent had his notes, he was thinking ahead of time of what he needed to ask, and he was ready to find out if any of this would lead to some answers or if they were on a wild goose chase where they almost died for nothing. "Right let us hope that she is home." He muttered, raising a hand to the door and knocking on it loudly a couple of times. "Um. Hello? Anyone home? We are looking for lady Tekkanororia?" He began, pursing his lips. "I am Vincent, from the Court of Ignis. I am with other members here to speak with you about some journals that you had written years ago. May we speak?" If the news of the mechanized dragon had reach them or not was another thing.

Jynn did try his best to comfort Mabel, and that was all that Nahum could ask of the kid. He was already blinded, needing to adjust to the difficulties of it. But having a friend like Jynn would help Mabel feel more comfortable. Alas, the last thing he expected was for her to agree to open the portal. He felt the ends of his hair stand, and he would snap his head at Mabel. In the end, what kind of portal would it be? Ah yes. The spirit realm. While Jynn did end up comforting the priestess, it also ended up pushing her to actually do it. "We should not." Was the first thing that Nahum spoke. This could not stand. This could not happen. The Spirit Realm was forbidden for a reason. Mabel could speak with spirits this entire time?! Nahum felt the prickle against his skin, eyes widening as he could feel a bit lightheaded. His claws ended up digging into the cloth of Mabel's clothing, the ferret moving and looking at Mabel. "Decline. Decline. Do not open the spirit realm. It is meant to be hidden. Every powerful being, good and bad is within such a realm. If such is opened anything can escape into this world." He was having a bad feeling, and that was an understatement. It was an uncomfortable feeling that reminded him of his dreams and visions. How they dug into has mind and refused to leave while only giving him blurred glimpses that drove him mad trying to decipher them. Trying to create pieces out of nothing but a feeling and the world moving around him. He did not want this. This should not happen, and at this point the shapeshifter was at the verge of begging. He was not in a position to fight against anyone here. Much less to cause such chaos that could create the fall of the negotiation. But to open the spirit realm...this could not stand. "Do not!" Nahum hissed.

Thea kept her eyes on Mabel the whole time she was close to the heir of Vivifica. The poor girl was so young and had been made to carry a huge burden, one that was not meant to be carried by a single person. And yet, here they were, at the verge of going against the word of the Elders and the whole system, just to make sure one of her fellow Maesters didn't betray what they once stood for. She could see that Mabel was fighting an internal battle, one that she, at least, was not able to help with, but perhaps the blind boy would.
At the end of what felt like an eternity, the High Priestess finally made her choice, to allow the Maestra of Vivifica to show them what was really going on. Aislinn looked pleased with the choice.
"Well then, now that the choice has been made, why we don't hurry up and do what we must," Thea said while looking at Aislinn, "I'm afraid that whoever is attempting to interrupt this meeting might want to have a word with the High Priestess. Unless, well, we can return to that later. Please, show us the way, Aislinn"
Thea gave one last look to Mabel, she looked so defeated, she was going against everything she knew, and yet here they were, The remaining three Maesters going against the orders of the Elders. For that she had no real regret, as she had gone against such orders before, in more stealthly ways, but this? This was another thing entirely.

"Maybe the establishment is not open to the public yet," Diane said as she kept looking forward, "but any good establishment would have its staff arriving early to prepare for the long day ahead."
This was true, at least for her. Way back in the past, she always pride herself on being always an early riser and early to open the library. Back then things were simpler, after all. Unlike these so called modern times. The sound of children laughing made her eyes wander to the source of the sound. Making her think abouts things that were long forgotten and sealed away.
"I do not think she should be in jail, as she was technically working while all of this happened," she said to Elia, "She couldn't be the assailant as she was not in the room either. The only way that the police might have arrested her is for her to be a potential suspect. But do not let your mind wander to unpleasant scenarios. Elia. Else, you will fall a victim to distress' grasp."

The Vivifican mage was relieved to hear that his words helped Mabel come to a conclusion. But both choices were incredibly dangerous, and refusing Aislinn would’ve possibly been more disastrous, Vivifica would go to war with the rest of the courts, leaving Jynn as a refugee and traitor to his fellow mages, and Aislinn possibly could’ve taken Mabel as a hostage. Despite his major distrust in Aislinn’s actions, accepting her request has a better chance at keeping good relations between Vivifica and the other courts. Not only that, but he was surrounded by the leaders of the other three courts, the best of the best, and that made him feel slightly comfortable.

As Mabel talked, he stayed close to her side. He could hear the sadness in her voice, as though doing this will be the end of the world. She is about to commit a forbidden act that may affect her life severely, and Jynn once again could not help but feel responsible for the consequences ahead. He didn’t want to imagine what the elders would do with her if they found out about this. These thoughts were affecting him greatly, to the point he couldn’t make out what Nahum was saying. He places both hands on his face, fingers on the bridge of his nose, and his thumbs underneath his chin. It would be obvious to everyone how he is feeling about all of this.

He thinks about Maestra Lillian, and how disappointed she would be in him. How he wished she was here to provide everyone with her infinite wisdom, to come to a peaceful resolution. A part of him even feels like she is indeed watching her embarrassment of a mage…

{Gerik Lockford: Umbra Court; The Temple of Life - Interior}
Gerik looked a little disappointed when Aislinn couldn't provide the reasurance he sought from her. This whole situation was bothering him. Anything went wrong, and that was 5 of the most important people in the world potentially off the table. Chaos would surely follow, which Invidia could easily take advantage of. This whole plan might even be the catalyst of the prophesied fall of the courts. No, he had to hope the young Mabel could bring the others to their senses. But the High Priestess's acquiescence crushed that. The Umbral Maester sat there for a moment, his face unreadable as he considered what must be done next.
"If everyone would please return to your seats." Gerik spoke, his voice polite but firm. "We aren't done with this conversation."
He leveled his eyes at Aislinn, the amused glint usually there replaced by a cold certainty.
"I find your answers unsatisfactory. We don't have time for this test in faith. We have problems in the real world to deal with. Problems you have contributed to. To be perfectly blunt, you never had that much trust from me. Now, even less. I am a Maester. I have sworn to uphold order and to deal with anyone who steps out of line. You are far out of line, my dear. You can still fix this. Let us take you in, and I will put my best minds on what research you have put together. We can solve our current crisis, then check on what worries you."
He didn't say aloud the other part of that offer. What would happen if she refused. If the other Maesters were willing to go along with this treasonous act, then perhaps one of the devices in the dark vault was required.

{Valery: Vivifca Court; Temple of Life}
Running at top speed, Valery pushed past Zion and Eden as she headed for the ice dome. She slammed into it full force, using her shoulder to hit it. With it not yielding, she hammered her fists on it. She might have been able to come up with a more creative solution, but right now she only had one thought on her mind.
He was here.

With conversation covered with the butler, Anya took to eyeing the building and surrounding area. She wasn't sure what she was looking for, but knew it was always good to look. She smiled a little as Vincent led the way to follow the new lead. She moved to follow, but heard Pali staying behind. Curious.
"I'll catch up too." She called to the younger court members, eyeing Pali with interest.
The revelation on his plan got a smile from the Phoenix Bearer. Ah, Umbra members were so paranoid. It was good to have them around. Anya waited patiently til she noticed a change in Pali.
"Trouble?" She asked the mage, hoping this wasn't a familiar spell which meant he couldn't hear her.

Nahum's warning filled Mabel with a sense of dread. Her stomach twisted into tight knots, and for a moment she felt as though she were going to be sick. "But what choice do I have?" she murmured softly into her chin, so that only Yael could hear. "You hear how this is going. What else can I do? Can I really risk all of my friends, risk Jynn in this way?"

The joy that Daruk exuded was contagious, spreading to Aislinn and causing her to smile widely. For a moment everything felt good, right, fine, even if it were far from the truth. She turned toward Thea and nodded. "You may lower the ice shield now. I will show you the access point in which I access the Intermundium, and from there--"

She was interrupted, however, when Gerik broke the silence. Ah, Gerik Lockford. The level-headed, even-tempered Maester of Umbra. Her cheer faded slightly, drawing in a breath and holding it, watching with a hesitant gaze as he said his piece, which she surely knew she wouldn't like. The maestra closed her eyes, releasing her drawn breath through her nose and seeming as though she were silently counting.

"Gerik," she said, voice soft, "I know that you have little reason to trust me, especially after what I did all those years ago. I hurt so many when I left Umbra, and I probably hurt you, too. I understand if this makes you a little uncomfortable. If you do not wish to join us, that is fine. You may return to the caravan or sit here quietly in the court until I return. It will not be long, and then you can take me in to the elders."

He was not relenting, but she wouldn't, either. She met his cold stare with an intense one of her own, a desperation burning under the surface of her gaze. It was then that a thud against the ice broke the tension. Aislinn glanced up, seeing Zion and Eden standing outside the dome, and . . . .

"Vallery?" Aislinn asked, blinking, confused at the sight. And yet Vallery did not seem quite herself. No, not at all. She turned toward Thea urgently. "Please, drop the shield. Something is wrong."

Kiran watched Arkane, the mirth fading from his eyes as Arkane explained the gravity of the situation. "She can take care of herself, and she has friends with her," he reassured Arkane. "You have every right to worry. She is your friend, and you care about her. It is what makes you human, Arkane, and proves that you have goodness somewhere in there." He pointed at Arkane's chest, where his heart would be.

The boy watched as Arkane stayed rooted to the spot, waiting for him to leave, blink, react. Anything. When it was clear that Arkane would not budge, however, he wrapped an arm around Arkane's shoulders, beginning to try steering the Umbra mage away.

"Come on, you know what they say," he started, a sideways smile spreading on his face. "A watched pot never boils. Why don't we play a little game, eh? Maybe you can teach me one of those card games that you Regalians play for fun."

In truth, he just wanted to get Arkane's mind off the severity of the situation, give him a good distraction and to get him to discuss something else. He turned to Eclaire. "You playing, too, Miss?" He couldn't remember her name; he could hardly remember any of these Regalian names.

Several moments after Vincent's knock, he would hear the door unlock and then unlatch, swinging upon to reveal a blonde middle aged woman, shoulder-length hair drawn in a ponytail. Despite the wrinkles lining her eyes, she appeared quite youthful and lovely. She wore a turquoise dress, nails pristinely painted a ruby red.

"Good morning," she greeted, looking at each of them hesitantly. "Did you say that you are looking for Tekkanororia, something about her journals?" She appeared tired, very much so. She glanced at each of them in turn, before letting out a sigh and opening the door wider. "Come on in, make yourselves at home, but I ask that you please remain in this front parlor. I need to get my mother dressed before she has visitors."

Meanwhile, in the manor that Pali was observing, he would find the conversation between the two men start to come in more clearly, their voices magnified for his ear to catch.

" . . . . makes it more comfortable. And I am sure that Tabitha will give Reg a positive reception," the black mustached man was saying.

The other leaned against the wall, nodding in agreement. "The deal should go according to plan. Everything is in motion, and then we will have another ship sail to The Outskirts next week."

"And I presume that you have the necessary papers?" inquired the black-haired man.

"Absolutely, Roderik. I have been very thorough, as always."

"Very good." The mustached man drew another long drink from his beverage, stealing a glance in the direction of the parlor and studying the woman at the piano. "I will draw up the contract in the morning and have you sign. Payment will come shortly thereafter."

The rest of the conversation droned on into credit unions, the stock market these days, and the future of lobster on the menu. Depending on how long Pali stood listening, the men would open the French doors and step outside onto the patio.

Elia started fidgeting with her necklace, seeming as though she were already falling a victim to her most unpleasant scenarios. "I just hope that she's okay," she said softly. "Maybe we should check in at the station, to see if she's checked in looking for me or Dad?"

They were about a quarter of a mile from the security headquarters, and it would have been a pleasant walk, if that is where they chose to go. The sun was shining, the air crisp. Tensions could almost melt away, if so many people hadn't just died days ago, and Lt. Mastiff narrowly missing death himself. Perhaps these thoughts were on Elia's mind, as she slipped her small hand into Diane's and whispered, "If it weren't for you, Dad would have been killed. Thank you, thank you so much, Diane. After Mom died, he and my sister are all that I have left. He's . . . ." Her voice trailed off, the tears that she'd been holding back finally rolling down her cheeks. Only this time, she wasn't hysterical or frantic. They were just tears, once that had been building for days and were finally being allowed to release.
