Tales of Mevia- The Emissaries
This roleplay is going to have me and @SilverBlack as GM's. The main thread is in the process of being created (should be up by tomorrow), but leave a reply if you're interested! Once the thread is up, I'll leave a link, both on this post and in the replies. Questions are welcomed as well :3
I'll also have some nice (not really) bbcodes (done by a novice... that novice being me) 8D
For countless centuries, humans of this world have embraced a strange energy that lives within them. It wasn't long after its first use that people began to dub the energy as "magic".
The coastal country of Onasat was once part of the prosperous continent of Mevia. Onasat enjoyed wealth and peace along with the rest of the continent with its advantageous location. Shipbuilders, fishers, and sailors were just a few of the many occupations of Onasat's inhabitants. That wasn't to say that the country lacked its share of magic-users. Many talented magicians were birthed in this land, and they often traveled to inland Mevia in order to make a name for themselves. Despite being from a fairly small and humble country, these magicians often gained what they sought.
Most of the magicians that achieved fame and wealth frequently held purer, nobler intentions for Mevia. One magician by the name of Peraginn, however, was infamous for her idea of summoning evil spirits and creatures in order to bring foreign continents to their knees. The people of Mevia, content with their current lifestyles, rejected Peraginn's ideals and turned their backs on her, regardless of her talents in magic.
Angered by the people, Peraginn went through with her plan of summoning her minions, but her target became Mevia itself. These creatures of the dark, powered by Peraginn's magic, slaughtered most of Mevia's people within a few short years. Peraginn had died some time in that period, but the remnants of her magic prevailed in the creatures, who continued to spread death and fear. Onasat, having been further from where the fighting had took place, became one of the few remaining civilizations in the continent. Fearing Onasat's seemingly inevitable destruction, the country's most distinguished magician, Ifrenel, put his plan of saving his people into action. He left Onasat and planted several barriers protected by magic. With those barriers set in place, he exhausted his magic with a powerful spell. In a blink of an eye, the country of Onasat, along with its surrounding ocean, vanished from the face of the Earth.
Ifrenel's magic had virtually placed Onasat in a separate dimension away from harm, where nothing can get in or out. If one were to look at Earth from space, they would see a dark void where the country and part of the ocean had been...
---
A few peaceful centuries later, the magicians of Onasat sensed something alarming. The magic that separated them from the rest of the world was weakening. They suspect that Peraginn may have resurrected with the remnants of her magic left in her creatures, and that the barriers may be in danger. The magicians became increasingly worried as they watched the magic continued to collapse. Not only were they worried about the safety of Onasat when exposed to Peraginn, they were further concerned with the possibility of a catastrophe that would result in the sudden decimation of all the barriers.
The act of removing Onasat from the world had been, more or less, a simple act. To suddenly shove it back into the void of the Earth, on the other hand, would prove to be a difficult task that requires delicacy, lest one wants to risk the possibility of tearing the Earth apart.
To prevent such a thing from happening, the magicians temporarily created a rift in the barriers' magic that would allow people to return to the "real world". At the same time, the government recruited several magicians in order to protect the barriers at all costs.
This will be expanded upon once the main thread is up. The minimum requirement for participants would be a decent level of grammar. For example, using capitalization and punctuation marks when appropriate, or being able to distinguish the uses between words such as "your" and "you're". No one's writing is perfect (after all, many of us roleplay to improve our writing), but replies should be comprehensible.
As for the replies themselves, a minimum of 2-3 paragraphs is needed. These kinds of length would let the story to advance at a nice pace, prevent people from making halfhearted replies every couple of minutes, and allow more fulfilling interactions between the characters. Roleplayers should also reply approximately one to two times per week to keep the roleplay alive. Expect me to remind people to reply if they fail to meet this requirement. If real life issues come up during the roleplay, pm me or the other GM so we can work something out.
The story will progress through different arcs. The length of each arc could differ depending on the events that take place. Depending on how the characters develop, I may create some sub-arcs.
The requirements for the characters will be specified in the character tab of the main thread, but I'd like to make it clear now that your character does not necessarily have to be a magician. They can be magic-less people if you'd like, as long as they have the combat prowess suited for the mission at hand (though, the majority of the characters should still be able to utilize magic in some form). Godmodding is naturally not allowed, but characters should still be decent in their skills. Otherwise, they wouldn't have been selected to participate in the mission.
Another thing on characters. It's completely fine if your character is shy, aloof, withdrawn, or a little cold to others. These traits allows character development, after all. But, I can't accept characters who are just plain antisocial and rude to other people. Sure, development could happen that allows those characters to warm up to other people, but the mission that the characters are sent on in this story is a team mission for a reason. They wouldn't send someone who is visibly uncooperative on such an important mission. So keep in mind- a little detached is great, but don't make them into a jerk.
