"Enjoy your ride!"

Mercedes waved at the kids on the bumblebee ride as she stood at her corner station, the thumb on her opposite hand held out in an upwards position to match that of the worker on the opposite side of the platform. Although it was a kids ride, Fairmount Park didn't believe in having one worker on a ride at a time, to avoid accidents. And as long as both of their thumbs were up, everything was peachy, and the ride could start.

She heard the gears grinding as the other worker pressed the start button, and the bumblebee cars began sliding along the track. She could feel the sun beating down on her uniform, and sent a silent thanks to the park owners that they could wear shorts. The shirt itself was a button up, and she had on a tank top underneath, her hair completing the look with a messy bun haphazardly tossed on top of her head. Sneakers adorned her feet since that's all they could wear.

The bumbles went around the track twice, and then came to a slow stop. Pushing herself off the wall, Sadie made her way to each bee and unlocked the car and unbuckled the kids, watching with a smile on her face as they shrieked and ran to tell their parents about the ride.

The other worker met her in the middle. "I hate kids." He grumbled, watching as the brunette unlocked the last car to let the last little girl out.

"How can you hate kids?" Sadie straightened, fixing him with an odd look as she started for the gate to allow the next group in. "They're so much fun."

"Too loud." He shook his head and headed back for his corner, leaving Sadie to do all the work. Shrugging, she counted the kids as they passed her, stopping after reaching a certain number to lock the gate back and get ready for the next ride.

Rylee Wilson
Location: Twirly Tea Cups Ride
Mentions: None
Interactions: Open
Outfit: Uniform

"Excuse me, Miss? Can we go again?"

Rylee looked up from the book she had sat to the side of the ride's controls, hazel eyes landing on a young boy who was waving at her. He was cute, maybe five or six years old, with blonde hair and blue eyes. A man with similar features sat next to him in the seat of the large tea cup. Rye looked at him curiously, wondering if he was the boy's older brother or young father. Shaking the thoughts away, Rylee glanced at the line that was waiting for the Twirly Tea Cups, silently judging if it would fill the ride. Rylee shrugged, not really caring either way and turned her attention back to the boy. "Sure, kid, why not?"

Rylee was fairly certain she heard an agitated huff from one of the parents waiting in line with their child, but chose to ignore it. Just because they would rather ruin a kid's day than wait five more minutes for the ride didn't mean Rylee would. One of her coworkers waved people from the line into the ride while the other walked around and made sure everyone was buckled in correctly. Rye was studying electrical and mechanical engineering, which somehow translated to being allowed to operate the rides. She couldn't really complain. It was decent experience, and paid fairly well.

Rylee waited for each of her coworkers to return to the designated posts and give her a thumbs up before pressing the button on the mic. "Thank you for choosing Twirly Tea Cups for your super spinning fun today. Please keep all hands and feet inside the tea cup at all times. Remember at the end of the ride to not unbuckle your seat belts until the tea cup has come to a complete stop. Have fun!" Rylee said into the mic, doing her best to inject some enthusiasm into her tone. It had been fun to read the prompt the first few times. But, now that she had it memorized, it was no longer entertaining to say.

The Twirly Tea Cup ride was fairly simple to operate: turn the knob slowly to one side to turn on, turn it slowly the other way to turn it off. Rylee grabbed the knob and turned it to the opposite side, watching a moment as the tea cups creaked to life and began to move in a large circle. The children in the tea cups began to scream in delight, tell their parents to spin them around faster and faster. Rye wasn't crazy about children, but she couldn't deny that they were entertaining. The brunette read a couple of more pages in her book, estimating it to be about five minutes or so, before slowly turning the knob again. The Twirly Tea Cups decreased in velocity until they came to a stop with the blonde haired boy in front of her once again. He looked up at Rylee and, by the look in his eye, Rylee could tell he wanted to go again. Rylee grinned at the kid and shrugged her shoulders, "Sure, kid."

♡Aspen Flores♡
Location: Scoops n' Smiles
Mentions: None
Interactions: Her coworkers Christy and Adam (NPC)

Aspen scooped another generous helping of triple chocolate fudge ice cream into the waffle cone. Forcing a smile, she handed the icy sweet treat to the boy, his freckled face lit up as a large gap-toothed smile overtook it. Without thanks, he rapidly began devouring it causing his mother to scold him before nudging him out of the way. Putting down the dirty scoop, she brushed a strand of hair that had fallen out of her neat bun. The line was shorter now something she was thankful for. Christy and Adam would be able to handle the few remaining guests without her, meaning she could take an impromptu break. Walking to the back of Scoops n' Smiles Aspen quickly pulled out her phone instantly beginning to text her friends about how much working sucked. Before she could even hit send on the paragraph of complaining Christy rushed to the backroom. "Cruising Crusaders broke down, disappointed families are piling in here by the dozen we need you out front!" She urged before hastily retreating to the front of the store. Closing her phone with a roll of her eyes, she walked back out to the front of the store. Cruising Crusaders was undoubtedly a joke of a ride, the bumper car-esk ride broke down every other week and since it was right next door to Scoops n' Smiles they were repeatedly hit with an inevitable rush of dissatisfied customers.

Aspen gently slid on the plastic gloves while pushing a charming smile to her face. "Welcome to Scoops n' Smiles, serving you a delicious treat will put the cherry on top of my day!" She beamed cringing at the corny line she was forced to say. She served multiple icecreams with a smile, in all honesty, she enjoyed when they were busy more than anything else. It forced her to only focus on the job rather than the numerous things she could be doing with friends. Whenever she had free time she found herself idly scrolling through Instagram, the multitude of unforgettable pictures from friends on exotic vacations made her envious. Before her dad had sent her to work she had planned to spend the summer with her friends travelling to Europe. Her unfortunate situation didn't stop her friends. Every day they posted sentimental pictures of their many misadventures. Aspen didn't feel envious of them she merely felt left out. They hadn't messaged her once since arriving in Europe. It would have been tolerable if they didn't act like she didn't exist. Pushing the thought to the back of her head she continued serving ice cream hoping the mass of people never stops.

LOCATION | water blasters game MOOD | seriously annoyed WITH | some obnoxious kids (open)
☆☆☆

Nicholas sighed, only half-watching from behind his fringe as yet another group of screaming children competed to win a plush of some bootleg cartoon character.

A moment later the bell rang, reminding him that there was, in fact, one sound more grating than kids themselves. Two of the little darlings flung their water guns down in defeat, while another seemed on the verge of tears. The remaining little girl wore a particularly smug grin, gazing up at a tacky blue frog decal her sharp-shooting had blasted to the top of the target.

"And blue frog is the winner," Nick announced in a rather bored tone, "thank you for playing Water Blasters and better luck next time to everyone else!"

He ignored the whines of "unfair!" coming from the others and approached little miss blue frog, gesturing to the many colorful characters and animals hanging behind him.

"Which one?"

The girl took a moment to decide, biting her lip in an expression of surprising thoughtfulness. Choosing a toy one could get for a dollar anywhere else was apparently serious business.

"Hmmm," she pondered aloud for what felt like forever to Nick. "I want the pink unicorn!"

Thankful she'd at last made up her mind, he wasted no time in nimbly unhooking the blindingly bright toy and handing it to her.

"Here you go," he said rather plainly, though the girl had charged off before she could've possibly heard his entire sentence.

The cycle repeated a few times, as predictably and boringly as could be expected. Siblings quarrelled, a few parents played alongside their offspring in a bid to up the odds of winning, and kids were... well, childish about losing. Dull, but tolerable work.

It was only when two younger teens showed up alongside the usual kiddies that things got ugly. Nick was immediately suspicious of their intentions, and the way they seemed to be holding back laughter before the game even began.

With a moody expression, he started the countdown anyway.

The children were quick to aim for their targets and urge their assortment of plastic water creatures upwards, but the older players appeared to be failing on purpose.

Seconds later, they both accidentally lost control of their squirt guns and sprayed Nick, missing his face but still managing to soak his hair and uniform shirt in the process.

"You're both disqualified!"

The two laughed obnoxiously, kids joining in with their own chorus of giggles. It took everything in Nicholas not to cuss out those two in front of the children. Every. Damn. Thing.

"Of the remaining players, green turtle wins. Thank you for playing Water Blasters, not everyone can win but this round we only have two losers," he spat, glaring daggers at the now retreating pair before tossing a toy in the direction of the winning kid.

Wiping away the dripping eyeliner that was making its way down his face, Nick turned a tiny electric fan towards himself and silently raged as he waited for his clothing to dry.

He could only hope he'd catch a break between these entitled, whiny swarms.

Mason Smith
Location: Cruising Crusaders -> Scoops 'n' Smiles
Mood: Relaxed

Mason stood and wiped his brow, staring down at the machine beneath him. His work polo was soaked with sweat, and rode up a bit, allowing the cheap tool belt around his hips to rub his skin and leave burns in its wake. Cruising Crusaders wasn't usually a fast fix. Each car had its own motor, and the console for the ride was outdated, so it didn't exactly say which motor was malfunctioning. Whoever designed the ride clearly did it cheaply, the cars all ran on the same circuit, so when one isn't working, all of them break down. This makes repairs tedious and time consuming. In fact, Mason may just spend the entire day fixing this one ride. Surely his co-workers can handle the empty car stuck at the top of Atlantic Altitude's highest hill? Or the loose hinge on the Ferris wheel cabin? The mechanic severely hoped they didn't send someone to take over his current project, he didn't feel like getting sick in an amusement part trash can three days in a row.

Closing the access hatch to the electric motor on this car, he returned to the ride console and attempted to get it going again. The ride didn't budge. With a resigned sigh, he pushed the car out of the way, taking in his progress. He had been at this for about an hour already, and he had about half the cars checked and done. Great, only four and a half hours to go. How the hell was he going to stretch out an hour of work into four and a half hours? Well, perhaps he could start with a lunch break...? Looking about, Mason spied the nearby Scoops 'n' Smiles ice cream shop. It was overflowing with customers, so Mason busied himself pretending to work, organizing his toolbox until the line died down a bit. Ice cream for lunch... a nutritionist would berate him for the choice, but in all honest Mason probably burned more calories than he ate on any given work day, so it didn't matter much.

Stepping into the ice cream shop, he flashed his work badge at the girl behind the counter. "Double scoop of the triple chocolate fudge, with nuts please," he stated with a smile.

✕ SAMARA ✕ AVETIS ✕

Located: The Shooting Star Ride ✕ Mentioned: None ✕ Interacting w/: Her timid coworker, Daniel. Otherwise open.

Wow, the sun could sure be blinding sometimes...

Using one of her hands to cast a shadow on her face, Samara wistfully watched the ride begin its slow ascent. Her other hand was pushing a lever, which indicated whether the ride was going or stopping. The ride she was manning, Shooting Star, featured a circle of suspended chairs that would slowly rise and spin at faster speeds before descending again. Her envy grew each time the ride started up, but despite that, her hand staying faithfully near the controls for emergencies. Though she knew what the rules were, she still couldn't help but quietly mutter to herself on some occasions to vent some of her frustration. As the ride began winding down, she waited for it to fully stop before rushing in to get the kids out. The other co-manager of this ride (she thought his name was Daniel) decided, sensibly, to let her handle it rather than intruding.

"If I could just go on one ride.... I'm sure it wouldn't be a big deal..." Samara murmured to herself as she unbuckled a kid, who gave her a judging look. A plastered smile was all the response she gave before ushering the gremlin out of the ride. He, thankfully, seemed to be the last one, but there was already a line forming for the next ride. Oh boy. This is gonna be rough. I just gotta remain calm, keep a smile on my face, and-

"Hey, uh... Sam?"

A man's voice drew her attention from her thoughts. Samara cast a slightly irritated glance behind her, where the voice was coming from. Daniel, her coworker, was looking at her uncertainly. "Uh, how about a water..?" He asked, holding a water bottle in her direction. Finding the prospect of water suddenly irresistible, she ran back to the booth, surprising Daniel with her spontaneous movement. She had a lot of energy to burn, so running seemed to be a decent way to lose it. The water was just another excuse to shed unnecessary energy. Grabbing the bottle and noting its cool nature, she practically tore the top off and chugged it. Drinking water had slipped her mind as she watched the ride, so she must have gotten dehydrated.

After downing the beverage, her spirits were just a bit higher. "Ah, that hit the spot! Thanks pal, appreciate it," she replied, before turning on her heel and hopping over a few fences to get to the gate that read 'entrance'; the last line of defense against a bunch of sweaty kids. Daniel just stood and watched her, quiet like always. Trepidation seemed to be more prominent in his posture than usual, though. Shrugging it off, she shifted the empty bottle to her left hand before opening the gate. Thankfully, no one tried running to get to a chair once the floodgates were opened. There was usually a seat for everyone, after all. However, some kids frantically tried to nab a specific seat before anyone else. She could admire the passion, but she also didn't want anyone to get hurt, so she always made sure to holler at any kids who were trying to cause a ruckus. Sometimes they laughed, sometimes they cried, but they almost always listened when/if they rode again. That was the one part she cared about. Mindlessly, she checked each kid's restraints and returned to her sun-guarded booth, her thoughts a bit stormy.

Starting up the ride again, she stared at the empty water bottle in her hand rather than paying attention to the ride and risking getting riled up. Wait your turn, Samara. You'll be able to get on soon enough. Her thoughts helped quell her impatience, but if she was being honest with herself, she knew it wouldn't last forever. She needed a distraction, probably. Hmmm, maybe there was one around if she looked hard enough...

Funnily enough, the screams of the kids would, on their own, be distracting, but each scream blended together to create a bizarre white noise. She tuned it out effortlessly. Her eyes wandered as she manned the ride, pulling the lever down after the allotted time and letting the ride die down. There had to be something...

James Greer
"The Inmate"

Considering James' criminal history he should be ecstatic to have landed a job that also had housing. But the smiling faces and yelling from two miles away bombarded his sanity. The only thought flowing through his head was that he needed this job. So he did what any good employee would do and pasted a smile on his face and hit the button to operate the machine. Luckily the ride wasn't popular and he and his "buddy" only had the occasional rider.

Currently there were no riders. James leaned against the railing reading Metamorphosis by Kafka as Buddy was trying to talk up some riders. They were complete opposites and James hoped the guy stayed his distance. He could already tell news of his jail time was making it's way between his co-workers. Who knew besides the hiring manager in order to flap their lips. The bigger question: What did they know?
