I play the street life
Because there's no place I can go

There's a dodgy neighborhood in downtown Los Angeles, overrun with gangs, thugs, crooks, and a staggering homeless population.

This is Skid Row.

A place where glitzy dreams of Hollywood go to die for those who couldn't hack it in show business. Then there are the folks who were born in this concrete jungle and lack the means to escape to greener pastures, instead just learning how to survive under the constant threat of violence, lure of addiction, and the exploitation that runs rampant in the area. And, of course, you have the more unscrupulous types who embrace this treacherous world and even manage to thrive in it, using their well-honed street smarts to make their way.

Wherever they come from, whatever they need to do to survive, the everyday heroes of Skid Row persevere. They seek solace in the glimmers of humanity that pierce through the bleakness, finding strength within themselves and their relationships.

the setting
This is a slice of life roleplay that will take place in a fictionalized version of Los Angeles, California. More specifically, a stretch of about 50 square blocks just east of Downtown LA called Central City East, otherwise known as Skid Row.
the cast
Characters can be any age, although 13+ would probably work best for most of the in-character action and general subject matter. As this is a crime-ridden area terrorized by gangs and a pesky Russian mafia presence, assorted criminals, hustlers, street walkers, and drug dealers are very much welcome! But we'd also love to see regular, law-abiding citizens just trying to get by and earn a buck at whatever profession you can come up with.

This is a predominantly low income community, and its residents should, for the most part, reflect that. However, there are plenty of more affluent areas (Hollywood, Santa Monica, Los Feliz, Beverly Hills, etc.) right around the corner, so middle class or wealthy characters are great too! Just as long as they find some reason to wander into the less gentrified part of town sometimes.

Join us, we've got gangs, mafia, failed actors, sleazy producers, gutter kids, Hollywood party gatecrashers, and a hapless group of ghosthunters bumbling around rickety old buildings! Just to name a few--

Could use a few more active writers! (Or at least fairly active--we're a chill group)
