Nick listened to what Asher said and then realized that he had seen this kid before, but not in person. After their very first practice of the season Nick was sitting next to Jordan in the locker room, Jordan took out his phone and his background on his phone was a picture of him kissing this boy. Nick knew now that the boy in the photo was Asher. Nick figures that Asher got to know some of the guys who were on the soccer team with Jordan. Nick had heard that they just recently broke up though or at least he thought they did but he wasn’t sure. Before Nick even had a chance to reply to Asher he had already went off downstairs and told Nick not to take too long up here.
Nick made his way to his room and dropped off his soccer ball on his bed. Nick stayed in his room for a moment to compose himself and stop the blushing that was going on with his cheeks. Nick couldn’t really understand why both Ruka and Asher made him blush. In reality Nick did know why, but he was trying to deny it. After Nick composes himself he made his way outside with the rest of the kids and they all walked over to the pier. It was a beautiful day and Nick always loved the beach at Santa Monica so he was happy that they were taking the walk. Once they got to the pier they went and got lunch. Nick decided to get some tacos and they were so good! Nick ate them pretty fast, being more hungry than he thought he was. After the kids finished eating Mrs. Richardson got their attention and told them who their groups were going to be. Nick ended up being paired with both Asher and Ruka, nick mentally sighed a little as he tried to stop himself from blushing. He took a nervous gulp as he walked over to the both of them. “Hey guys so what do you guys want to do?”

Felix was a little taken aback as the phone is snatched from him, expecting a cautious or angry response. In a moment of panic he tried reaching over to grab it back, though Nate had already expected that and turned away so he couldn't reach. As soon as he realised Nathan was adding himself to Felix's contacts and then he heard the shutter of the phone's camera go off he quickly calmed down and and just let out an audible laugh, a smile creeping across his face. ...Okay the stupid jerk was telling the truth.
Curious he waited to see what else Nate was up to. A look of surprise seeing the power bank Nathan hooked it up to the phone before typed his reply, Felix giving a slightly embarrassed look. He always forgot to charge the thing, though he didn't normally use it much. His parents just gave it to him for emergencies and outside like one friend and some family he never text'd or called anyone. It was normally just a pocket-size camera and music player.
Felix leaned over and read the message and just shook his head for a moment and giving Nathan a playful nudge in the side and writing his reply. "ur not just the deaf kid, earlier u were the awesom sk8tr too. awesom x2 if u did all that and couldnt hear what I told u to do. Also nice cam. U wanting take pics somewhere?" Felix's typing was much much slower than Nathan's just by nature of him just not using his phone very often, but once he was done he put the phone back down again for his friend to check. He punctuated his the reading of the message with a confirming nod and playful grin cleared aimed at the first part, trying to reinforce what he just wrote.
As Nate seemed to be getting himself ready, Felix decided to do did the same pulling a leg up onto the bench to tie one of his laces that'd come undone. The garish neon-yellow laces were actually glow-in-the-dark, something a little more noticeable to Nate and the others now perhaps they were seated with some shade compared to walking down the bright sunny streets before; Felix having done custom diamond-lacing pattern instead of a basic over-under or barred pattern making his sneakers more distinctive and in his mind cooler!
Once snug again he put the leg back down and leaned over to see if his friend had written another response already, content to sit here with his friendfor the time being.

After eating, he made a mental note that his favorite food was now turkey.. before his thoughts being interrupted by Mrs. Richardson giving everyone their assigned groups.
He grinned once more, he was with his best friend Asher AND the hot new kid?! Nothing could make this day any better! He got up, wiping his face of any excess turkey and stretched, clearly ready for today.
As he did his thing, he saw Nick coming into his view. He gave him an energetic wave and one of his signature sly grins. "Hmm, I'd sayyy.." His voice trailed on as he looked around before pointing to the claw machines that were lined up next to eachother, "That!"

He was pretty confident in his ability when it came to claw machines, so he hoped that he wouldn't embarrass himself in front of his two friends. The moment Ruka found some coins, he placed some in both of the boys' hands. "I don't really know how much I have, I just split it all!" He quickly said, already sliding a coin in the slot. He then turned around, his eyes on Asher and Nick.
"Good luck to you both!" He said with a wink.

Aaron did not make getting him to go to the pier easy. When Casper had found him, he had been lying down on the bed in the room he'd been given, refusing to get up even as Casper begged- The boy had actually for once been grateful for the arrival of an adult, the entire story from waking up to now bubbling up in one smooth motion much to Aaron's annoyance.
But Mrs. Richardson was not to be trifled with and Casper was in his usual overdramatics over the idea of missing the pier, so Aaron had finally relented, throwing on an unnecessary jacket before heading downstairs, his body hidden even further by the additional layer breaking up his frame. He'd trailed at the end of the group as they made their way to the pier, Casper's hand locked in his.
For lunch, the pair gathered a pair of lemonades, large fries, ice cream, and funnel cake, all from the same spot- Heavily controlled for most of their young lives and now faced with the option to gorge themselves on whatever they'd like, they had made what some might call a poor decision. But it was almost enough to make Aaron lighten... right up until Mrs. Richardson announced the partnerships.
"Just because we're always together doesn't mean she had to make us buddies," he muttered before chomping into a fry.
Casper cocked his head to the side, frowning. "What, you'd rather be with a stranger?"
Aaron said nothing, still frowning as he bit into another fry.

Nick had to stop himself from having tears roll down his face. This kid that he met no more than an hour ago gave him some change to play a stupid game. While this wasn't really a big deal, to Nick it meant a lot, more than anyone would know and more than Nick would let anyone know. He quickly took his arm and wiped his eyes for a moment before walking over to one of other claw machines and putting some of his change into the machine. "Man, I haven't played one of these games in years." Nick lightly chuckled as he looked into the machine to see which prize he wanted to try and win. Nick turned around to see which machine Asher was going to play and then he heard Asher say that he would be right back. Nick turned to look as Asher walked away and walked towards the two boys who were still sitting at the table. Nick had saw the two of them when he was given a tour of the rec room and then saw them at lunch. They obviously lived in the foster home as well, but they didn't seem to be too social, or well at least Nick hadn't talked to them yet.

Felix was initially pretty confused as he leaned over without a message ready, blinking confused as Nate snapped his picture. Felix then just laughed seeing his confused smile starting back at him on the camera clearly not minding it being taken. He waited patiently for the actual message to be written, once done he picked up the phone and scanned across the message a smirk on his face.
Felix was not camera shy, he actually enjoyed having a camera on him when he was skating so this wasn't that much different. Though more than that, he was kinda happy that Nate wanted to take pictures of him, even if it made him doubly glad he'd gone out of his way to try and pick a cooler outfit. He pocketed his phone (and the power bank) and stood up, taking a few paces back before giving as silly a smile he could, sticking out his tongue jokingly and shooting a thumbs up for extra effect! "Like this right?" He'd decided giving a over the top pose would be the best way to give permission. His own eyes scanning to gauge Nate's reaction as he joked around.
Once Nate had taken the picture he'd wave him over and started idly walking, staying close encase Nate needed to get his attention to tell him something.
To be honest Felix had no idea where to go! Or what they should do! Something that became very apparent, very fast as he just kinda started wandering idly around the plaza for bit looking off into the distance trying to find figure out something interesting that he also thought Nate might enjoy doing too. They had the ride passes of course, but he didn't know if Nate would be up for that with his camera and all, and what if he picked one of the coasters. *Shudder* So he just kept checking on Nate, his eyes staring a bit too long on his friend as he tried to gauge if he seemed interested, or entertained by any of the attractions, stalls, shops, or just anything.

Ruka was still trying his luck at one of the claw machines before he heard Asher say something about him leaving them. He just waved the other off, as if he needed his permission. He smiled, his attention still on the machine, "Samee!"
After a long 10 minutes, Ruka walked over to Nick, a frown on his face. "Did.. Did you get anything..? I swear these machines are rigged!! They won't even let me get some stupid cat plush!" The boy had to stop himself from ranting about the matter before leaning against one of the nearby machines, his eyes still on Nick.
He then teared his eyes away from the other, and saw Asher talking with.. Aaron and Casper? He chuckled, he must have a death wish to even think of talking to Aaron of all people.. but maybe it would be worth it.
Ruka was pissed. Pissed that he, Ruka Ishihara, couldn't get anything from a CLAW MACHINE! He had to restrain himself from kicking the box of toys in hopes that something would miraculously fall out.
He looked back to Nick, then the claw machine, then back to Nick.. Almost as if he was trying to say, "Can you try getting this for me?"
To seal the deal, Ruka made sure to put on his best puppy eyes.. hoping that would convince the other even more.

Felix did take pride in trying to look cool, atleast what he thought was cool - Which was sometimes a bit of a challenge, his shorter stature meant that a lot of his clothes were a little old since he rarely grew out of them and most of the age size-tags on them had him marked as someone a few years younger and less mature than he was. (Maybe the less mature might be debatable) It'd been a bit of boon when it came to his skating with new pairs of aggressive/trick skates getting pretty expensive, so not growing out of them made doing his hobby easier - But otherwise it just embarrassed him. His jeans did show some scuff marks on the knees from their extended use, but otherwise despite their age these clothes were some of his better ones.
"Guess we're going this way!?" Felix said aloud in confusion as his arm was taken and he was pulled into the gift shop. He saw all the trinkets, clothing, and accessories only for a brief moment before the yellow fedora was placed on his head. Felix blinked in confusion again, then just resigned himself to it. "At least the color's good". He gave Nate a pose, holding the tip of the fedora tilted down and trying to put on a few different expressions copying some pose he'd seen in a movie once. Deciding to really get into it he grabbed a pair of sunglasses of the shelf with ridiculous star-shaped frames and decided to add that to the look, letting Nate get as funny a photo he could.
As he saw Nate take out his phone to write a message he started taking off the hat and shades, and seamlessly just dropped a kid's pirate hat (/w attached toy parrot) into Nate's head as he did so. He pulled out his phone as it buzzed in his pocket checking what he'd said, smiling to himself before replying. "I no been b4. no idea what here. want look round here? then u can show me games bit play you?" Felix imagined their might be at least a few carnival style attractions he could play Nate on, if we was lucky a full arcade bit where they could battle it out. Felix did want to take a look around the gift shop first though, try and use this chance to figure out what sorta thing Nate might like as a bit of an apology gift - Not that he really had much money to afford souvenirs. He'd normally just blow his budget on silly stuff like a new foam sword he could bonk someone with, stickers he could put on his gear, a posters he could put in his room, ect - But he'd have to be content just browsing for the moment.

Felix's eyes darted from item to item in the store, but even following Nate's gaze he didn't see anything that he both wanted to buy and could afford. He still had fun looking at some of the random knickknacks, and the touristy non-tourist t-shirts. Not noticing Nate slip away he was super confused to see him return carrying the yellow fedora and star-shades he'd put back earlier. He didn't stop Nate putting the hat on him though he gave him a curious look, pointing to the counter behind then to the items double checking Nate's response that he just bought them. At realising he had he just laughed for a moment before checking his phone.
Felix shook his head since he didn't find anything yet, looking over where Nate pointed. Deciding it was time to go he pulled up the star-shades that really weren't going to fit him well and donned them despite being indoors and looking to Nate. "Let's roll out." He tried to say with a super serious expression making his appearance even more comical as he started making his way outside the arcade. Repeatedly and awkwardly Felix had to wiggle his nose in an attempt to try keep the glasses on his face.
Entering the arcade Felix couldn't help but break his serious expression, it'd been ages since he'd hung out in a place like this. His turn to take initiative he quickly rushed on ahead through the crowd motioning for Nate to follow him, momentarily disappearing for a few moments from view as people cross their path. Thankfully between the yellow fedora on his head and the neon-laces on his sneakers keeping track of him and following wasn't particularly going to be a challenge.
He grinned to Nathan once he caught up, wriggling his nose again to keep the shades up as he stood over an air-hockey table. Tilting the yellow fedora and giving a competitive sly look he slid out the puck and the hammer across the table towards Nate before reaching to his phone and quickly typing up a text. "The star detective challenges u to a dule! prepare yourself!"
He did spell duel wrong and honestly still wasn't sure if he needed to text Nate given how well he did earlier today but the point was made, and as soon as Nate looked up from the phone he'd slip a coin into the slot to start the game. While slightly handicapped by the star-shades Felix was otherwise going to try and make this a difficult match.

He grinned to Nathan once he caught up, wriggling his nose again to keep the shades up as he stood over an air-hockey table. Tilting the yellow fedora and giving a competitive sly look he slid out the puck and the hammer across the table towards Nate before reaching to his phone and quickly typing up a text. "The star detective challenges u to a dule! prepare yourself!"
He did spell duel wrong and honestly still wasn't sure if he needed to text Nate given how well he did earlier today but the point was made, and as soon as Nate looked up from the phone he'd slip a coin into the slot to start the game. While slightly handicapped by the star-shades Felix was otherwise going to try and make this a difficult match.

Nick started to laugh a little bit because he did win something but it was not a stuffed animal. "Well, I did win something, but probably not something you would want." Nick laughed a little bit as he took the item out from the machine and showed Ruka, it was a baseball.

Casper frowned at Aaron as the others began to get up and leave, almost positive Aaron was purposefully taking as long as humanly possible to eat. Then, he really was finished but he said he had to finish his lemonade first and Casper was sure that that was just ice! He groaned, sliding off the table he was flopped against. "I wanna go have fun, Aaron!"
"And do what?" he asked, an eyebrow quirking up. "Ride a roller-coaster?"
Casper whined, looking around their table desperately about to say something really mean when Asher waved in their direction. Despite how mean the other boy was, Casper perked up, waving back much more enthusiastically.
Aaron frowned as he followed Casper's eyes to Asher, fighting every ounce of his desire to tense as he watched the boy coming over.
Casper giggled as he spoke, already bouncing in his seat as he opened his mouth to respond.
"We're okay," Aaron said, swirling his long-empty cup.
Casper stared at him for a lot second, bottom lip chomped between his teeth as he frowned for a long moment, looking desperately to Asher then back to Aaron. "Stop being mean," he said finally. "It's not gonna fix anything- And I wanna go look at things!"
Aaron hummed.

Casper froze as Asher began to speak. Ever so slowly, he turned to him, eyes wide as words just kept shooting out of his mouth. He didn't know what he had been expecting, but it wasn't this, and this very much seemed like a disaster- A worst case scenario. He looked to Aaron as Asher just kept going, word after word hammering into the air, nearly flinching when he was brought up, but Aaron was just looking at the table. He didn't seem mad but before everything happened, Aaron hadn't seemed much of anything in a long time.
Aaron was boiling, unwilling to give in and get angry back at Asher- Unwilling to let him win like that. And then he brought up Casper and for a split second, it was like Aaron had been dipped in ice. And then the anger bubbled over and he couldn't help a frown which just made him angrier because he'd shown that Asher was actually getting to him. He didn't want to do it- Wanted to say no on principle- but he was right, and that was the worst part. He didn't know what he was talking about, not really, but as much as Aaron hated it, he was right about Casper.
He looked to Casper and the other boy flinched, eyes dropping to his plate. "We don't have to go," he said.
His knuckles were white where they gripped the table and that was enough to make Aaron realize that as stupid as this was- As stupid as all of this was- Casper still cared about it. He let out a long sigh that could perhaps be mistaken for a groan though obviously Aaron would never do that and he pretended for a single moment that Asher wasn't there as he reached out and knocked his knuckles against Casper's wrist. "We can go."
When Casper looked up at Aaron, he didn't look happy. In fact, he almost looked scared. Aaron hated that, though he wasn't about to say it.
"We really don't have to," Casper said, glancing nervously to Asher.
Frown still in place, Aaron began gathering up his already fairly neat trash and Casper quickly followed. "Yeah, but you want to." It was the next part that was the hardest- The bit that made Aaron want to scream- To throw something. He very much didn't look at Asher as he admitted to Casper, "And I wasn't being fair." On the outside, it was as even as he could manage, but inside the words burnt inside him, made even worse by the fact a stranger had said it first.
By now, Casper was practically vibrating, the fear gone and replaced with wondrous excitement as he stood up, Aaron following a moment after. Aaron still wasn't so much as looking at Asher, so Casper smiled brightly enough for the both of him as he said, "We have to throw our trash away first, okay?"

Felix honestly was distracted too much during the game to concentrate properly, the glasses kept slipping down his face and on a few occasions they fell onto the table forcing him scramble to grab them. Moreover Nate was playing well clearly putting his all into it. Somehow despite this Felix still managed to pull out a win! Even if it was a narrow margin. At the game's he happily returned Nate's high five with a bright smile on his face. It was fun, and a great challenge.
Then he noticed Nate hesitation though he couldn't tell what he was about to do, then his friend's expression dropping before he quickly marched off outside. Felix's heart sank like a rock, panic setting in a little that he'd somehow screwed up again. "H-hey! Nate! Wait up!" Calling out again forgetting how futile it was, though this time he did take quick chase. Felix essentially skidding past the bench outside as this yellow and red blur before correcting.
"Nate are you okay?" Felix knelt in front of him before he received the text message. His heart pounding like crazy, clearly worried that Nate felt sick or that he'd made another mistake. Taking the phone from his pocket he scanned the message, his chest immediately grew even tighter but now for reasons Felix couldn't put proper words to. He hesitantly sat down right besides Nate.
"Need to talk. ..What about?" He asked making sure to catch Nate's eye so he'd see what he said, slipping the glasses back onto his shirt to make it clear he was being serious with whatever this was. He had no idea why his friend went from enjoying himself to being like this but he didn't like it. Felix double guessed himself a few times at this point but tried to keep his head clear enough to read and take in whatever Nate typed, leaning over close so he could read straight off his phone instead of waiting for stuff to be sent and received.

Ruka's eyes lit up at the object in Nick's hand. A baseball! He grinned, quickly taking the ball out of Nick's hand. He didn't realize how rude he had been before placing it back in the other's hand. He grinned once more, this time a little more sheepishly. "My bad! I just.. haven't held one in so long!" He said, a bit embarrassed at his action.
He then looked over to Asher, he didn't look like his usual self.. he looked a bit pissed in a way. His eyes then went to Aaron and Casper, was Asher ranting to them? He was about to walk over, and break the two up as if they were fighting.. but he stopped before he even put one foot in front of the other. He shouldn't intervene, it wasn't his situation.
He sighed, looking back at Nick, "So.. now that we did what I wanted to do, which was win nothing, what do you wanna do?" Ruka said, his smile back on his face.
As he waited for a reply, the boy's gaze drifted over to the ferris wheel. He hadn't been on one of those things in so long..

Reading the messages had just sent Felix's mind haywire, feelings of relief, realisation, and fear flooding his thoughts. The tight feeling in his chest was almost suffocating. He didn't know what words to use or what to say, and his knee's had buckled together where he sad with more nervousness than when he was standing atop half-pipe the first time. Felix had no idea what to say here. He thought he might have even forgotten how to even speak. But after what in reality was just a few seconds he knew how he had to respond first if he didn't want to risk ruining things further.
After what must have felt like an eternity for Nate, his friend not responding or even looking at him; Felix just reached across and took one of his hand's into his own shakily holding it with his face turning redder and redder by the second soon to rival his own t-shirt, and unable to look in his friends direction for the moment.
Felix slowly typed away something on his phone to Nate. Every memory growing up, every interaction at school, it was all in his head voices full of venom, disgust and the bigoted opinions of his family it made it hard to think, it made his fingers freeze up, delete parts, that he had to force himself to type again questioning himself.
The text took forever for Felix to type only having a single hand free, the one in the cast, and not being very good at texting fast anyway even if he used his dominant un-injured hand. "I rly like u too and I rly want wanna be ur best friend. u wont lose me. so plz no running again!" Nervously Felix then added single emote to the end of his message a single green heart (
) before pressing send and waiting, nervously holding his friends hand tighter as he heard the other phone go off.
