The Lunar Chronicles

One hundred years ago before The Great Winter, the Earth was green and animals were plentiful. Even further back, Humans didn’t exist. Animals ruled the Earth, and it wasn’t until the first lone wolf, Cain that humans came into creation. Cain was a rebellious wolf who had an unhealthy desire to always be in control. This desire made him prone to violence against anyone who would dare take power away from him. His pack known as the First Wolves were forced to send him into exile. They encouraged Cain to return once he has found his way, but Cain was blind. Corrupted by his desire to rule, Cain wandered the planet alone and eventually forgot his way home. He could never find Paradise, and because he had lost his way to paradise his body transformed. Cain became The First Human, and he continued to wander the Earth naked and afraid until he met a mysterious woman named Lilith. The text doesn’t explain where Lilith came from, but she was described to be seductive and wicked—however, not to her lover Cain. It was through Cain and Lilith that the world became populated by Humans. The Humans proved to be very powerful and they eventually learned to build monsters from steel. They devoured the animals in mass, breeding them on farms in great quantity to try and satiate their insatiable appetites. The animals feared the Humans. They always fled from their presence and some even tried to kill them to save the Earth. The Humans proved to be so destructive that they even started to destroy each other. They created deadly machines, tools, and toxins to wipe out entire civilizations. It wasn’t until the creation of the first nuclear weapon that not only humanity but the entire planet began to die. Nukes were lobbed, and the effect the nuclear radiation had on the atmosphere forced the Earth into a nuclear winter.

If you are still alive and reading this, if you are human, then there is still hope for you. You must remember who you are. You are a wolf. When you have found yourself, look to the moon. The lunar eclipse opens the door to Paradise. The blood moon is cursed. Do not look at it for it is a deceiver. Deep in your heart, you know you do not belong here. If you listen to your heart, then you will find your way home. All wolves are led to Paradise.

Stepangrad

Stepangrad is a vast communist mega city named after Victor Stepanov the founder of the city 100 years ago. It is a super colony comprised of the last Humans on Earth. This is the setting of the first chapter of this game. All citizens of Stepangrad receive an identification chip, and are closely monitored by the government. In school, children take numerous exams that produce data on their aptitudes and weaknesses and through that data they are raised to fill not only an occupation the government needs, but an occupation that contributes to the survival of the colony. Children are taught in school that Stepangrad is the greatest country on Earth and the last surviving country due to its greatness. They are also taught that one day the winter will end and that a great warmth will bathe the country and turn it green with blue skies. Stepangrad citizens believe these stories religiously and praise old images of the sun even though none have ever seen the sun before. The flag of Stepangrad has a blood-red background with a golden sun at the center.

Interestingly, there isn’t a single poor person in Stepangrad for every single citizen performs some sort of duty that not only contributes to their health but the health of the colony. There is only a middle class, which is dominantly comprised of workers, the middle-upper class which is comprised of the government workers, and the upper class who are the rich known as Nobles. It is difficult to determine who really controls Stepangrad between the Nobles and the government. Because of the Nobles’ contributions to the colony’s growth and development, it is believed (conspiratorially) that the Nobles control Stepangrad and that the President and Prime Minister (Svetlana Bordarenko and Vladamir Blum) are mere puppets. The Nobles reside high above the rest of the city in their steel towers and will wear the most elaborate of clothes and fashions.

The government keeps all of its citizens under lock and key. Outside the main city is a vast winter wasteland that extends to the steel walls that encase the megadome. A glass dome contains the city, protecting it from the fluctuating arctic temperatures and radiation outside. The wasteland is known colloquially as the Kill Zone. The only people ever known to enter the kill zone are citizens who remove their chips (which alerts the government immediately) and attempt to escape the megadome. Why anyone would ever want to leave their organized paradise is beyond the Stepangrad citizens. The main culprit has been a book known as the Lunar Chronicle. The government deems it to be a fairy tale and discourages its citizens from taking it seriously. Unfortunately, due to the increase of escape attempts, the government was forced to place a ban on the book and had all of them burned. Anyone caught possessing a copy of the book were to be arrested, the book burned, and the person subjected to psychological analysis and rehabilitation. The government reinforces that nothing pleasant exists outside the megadome, but unbearable cold and monsters. Thus is why Stepangrad exists to protect everyone!

Animals exist in Stepangrad but not outside captivity. Domesticated animals have been cloned and genetically engineered to be cuter, smaller, and however their owners prefer them. Wild animals can only be found in a zoo, and they aren’t the original beasts but creatures cloned over and over so that zoos never go out of business. No other animals exist in Stepangrad not even in the Kill Zone.

So when one day a wolf is reported to have been seen in the city…

d-day-stencil.regular.png

lmIddTP.jpg

A mysterious gray wolf is rumored to have infiltrated the city. No one knows how it got in but the public is interested. No one has ever seen an actual wolf before. The government warns the public that the creature is wild and dangerous, and if they ever see it to report it immediately. The beast so far has been able to evade CCTV, which has the government bothered, but even the Nobles are interested offering a reward of 200,000 credits to whoever can catch the creature alive.

As if by Fate, each character will encounter either a wolf or an old man with an eyepatch. They are both the same being. The old man is named Sasha, a nickname for Alexander his real name. He can appear in his true form as a wolf or as a human as he pleases. To evade detection, he moves about in his human form but that can only get him around for so long until ID sensors flag him as not possessing a chip. As a wolf, the old man cannot speak, but he calls to your character’s wolf heart and attempts to awaken their wolf side. He is the one who is responsible for awakening the characters and acting as their guide to Paradise. He is trying to save as many wolves as he can, and therefore when they begin the task to flee the city, there will be more wolves than our starting cast. These wolves will obviously be NPCs. This first chapter is all about meeting Sasha (don’t worry, he’ll find you) and escaping Stepangrad into the winter unknown.

Wolves in this game are not normal wolves like the ones we know in real life. Like in the show this game is inspired by (Wolf’s Rain), the wolves are superhuman. The blood of the First Wolves is awakened by Sasha (a pure blood of the First Wolf pack) and allows the characters to shift appearances. There is no actual physical shifting. In a blink, they appear as a human, and in a blink, they appear as a wolf.

Reference: Wolf Strength and Shifting Example

While the awakened wolves are capable of shifting forms, there is a third form they could shift into if they ever look at the blood moon. This form is a lycanthrope form and is by no means good. It is absolutely evil like shifting into a demon. Only those wolves who were born outside of paradise and who possess the blood of Lilith (basically, all of our characters) are capable of transforming into an abomination. Once a wolf has transformed into the lycanthrope, then he or she will be unable to change back and will have to be put down.

To be straightforward about wolf superhuman feats (at least for Chapter One): superhuman strength, speed, and toughness. As wolves they will be able to communicate with animals, hearing their voices for the first time.

Rules

OOC
  • Communication. I do not need to know your business, but if you plan to leave for longer than a week, then please be courteous and let me know. I can accommodate for your absence and help you reintegrate back into the game when you return.
  • Frequency. At minimum, I only require writers to post once a week. I understand that work and college can get in the way. As long as you post once a week, then you are fine.
  • Activity. If a writer disappears without communicating their absence, then the writer has 14 days to communicate their activity with the GM. After 14 days, the character will be considered inactive, and they will be marked as such. The writer is welcome to return and resume where they left off. However, a GM decision may have been made for the sake of moving the story along, so be mindful of your activity. Communication is very important.
  • Disputes. You are required to respectfully workout any disputes with another writer—preferably in a PM conversation. If you cannot do this and need a GM decision, then bring the issue to my attention. Understand that if you violate RPN rules, then the situation is no longer in my hands. Be mature, be an adult, and be respectful.
  • RPN Rules. Be sure to follow them. Read up on them in case you forgot. You can find them here.
  • Have Fun. As the GM, my goal is to regulate the game and make sure it progresses smoothly. At times, I will drop some GM plots into the game, but this game is mostly run by the writers. I cannot force you all to interact and create stories and character relationships. All I can do is create the universe and regulate it. Please interact and try to have a good time. If you have any issues whether it be with the game or other players, then please privately bring it to my attention.
IC
  • Headers and Tags. I will provide everyone with a header that they should follow in order for everyone to keep track of their character’s location and who they are mentioning or talking to in the game. Please use the header so that there is little to no confusion.
  • Keep OOC in the OOC. Please avoid posting OOC bubbles in the IC. The OOC interrupts the IC atmosphere like a fourth wall being broken. Please keep all OOC in the OOC, Discord, or PMs.
  • Font Colors. If you are the kind of person who likes to color their character’s dialog, then please avoid using neon colors or colors that blend into the site’s background. No one wants to have to highlight your post in order to read it.
  • Image Size. Be mindful of the size of the images you post. You can use an image hosting site to reduce their size or a free photoshop clone like pixlr.
  • GM NPCs. These NPCs will be made clear to you when the time comes. The GM will introduce them in order to ensure the writers know that this is indeed a GM boss or mini-boss. Non-GM bosses or mini-bosses will be clearly explained to the writer, granting them liberties to take them down however they please. An example of a GM NPC is Sasha.

Character Creation

Unlike some other Game Masters, I present the Character Sheet right from the start. The interest check will be where you will post your CS. If you are shy, then you can post it to my PM box just please do not spam it. When a character sheet is approved by me, THEN you can post it to the character thread once it is created. I do things this way for organization purposes. I do not want players who don't get accepted posting their CSes in the Character Thread. So by posting them here, only the approved player characters will be allowed to post in the CS thread. So far the minimum characters I will allow in this game are six not including the GM's character. If I get more interest than six, then I may make some exceptions depending on how good the other concepts are. I do not accept based on quantity but rather quality and if those writers wanting to still get in demonstrate that they have an interesting concept to present, then there is a chance that I will accept them regardless of the minimum I have set. However, if you try to submit a skeleton to me or a CS that looks like you barely worked on it, it will not be accepted. I am letting you know now. But mainly, the only reason players have not been accepted in my games in the past have been due to the player's attitude. I will not accept drama.

You are free to design this CS however you like. I am just giving you the meat and potatoes. Feel free to go creative crazy! I really love it when a writer takes the story that is presented to them and runs with it. I just love it and can't wait to see the ideas you bring!

Those who join this game will actually be continuing the story having just recently escaped the city with Sasha. So you'll be immediately involved in The Great Escape. I have been debating on calling it Chapter Two instead of Chapter One, but I'm trying to see how many people are interested in getting involved in this story first.

This is for those who may want to read Chapter One: here

Hair Color: Grey
Eye Color: One blue; one white
Complexion: Cream

Occupation: One of the First Wolves

odZqB4D.jpg

Written Human Appearance: Sasha is an elderly man with a warm fatherly appearance. While he looks like somebody’s dyedooshka (grandfather), he is actually one of the First Wolves and is rather formidable. His right eye is blind and resembles a pearl, a scar passes over it, which gives a mild explanation. When not in wolf form, Sasha wears a wool black sweater with dark, military-green cargo pants. Boots protect his feet, and he carries with him a lengthy six-inch hunting knife.
Written Wolf Appearance: As a wolf, Sasha is all black. There are scars that crisscross his face and much like his human appearance, his wolf appearance has one blind eye. As one of the first wolves, he is well-adept in the spirit, which governs and controls all life on the planet.

Personality: Sasha could have chosen to stay in Paradise and leave the Children of Cain to wallow in their inevitable self-destruction. However, he chose to selflessly leave Paradise on a grand journey to save them. Unlike his wild appearance in wolf form, Sasha is kind and likes to share his wisdom with others. He is brave and an exceptional survivor, having braved the frozen waste to retrieve any wolves he could find. He is always caring about others and will risk his life to save another wolf, even if others may believe that wolf didn’t deserve being saved. All life is precious to Sasha, and his belief in the planet is deeper than most believe.

Current Story: Sasha left Paradise at the protest of the other First Wolves to try and save the lost pack. Even at the risk of not being allowed back into Paradise by the other wolves, Sasha was willing to sacrifice his peaceful and eternal existence to save wolves deemed undeserving. He has found his way to Stepangrad, and while there, he intends to save as many wolves as he can.

Weapon(s): Six-inch hunting knife.

Visual Wolf Appearance:
Written Human Appearance: Gennady is a blond, blue-eyed young man with a slender athletic build. He enlisted as a guardsman in the Stepangrad City Guard and so maintains a regular fitness regimen. His eyes are often intense and stern, a conditioned look brought by discipline. He wears his dog tags around his neck, and he has a tattoo of a star on his right deltoid. He got the tattoo as soon as he joined the guard. He is often seen in his stone-gray SCG uniform with a black tactical vest. He carries on his person when in uniform a pistol, 4 pistol magazines, a mini med-kit, combat knife, ration packs, and a canteen of water.

Written Wolf Appearance: A brown wolf with monochromatic tones to his pelt. His eyes are amber. Blond markings speckle his brows, neck, and belly.

Personality: Gennady, or Gena, is a grunt. All one needs to do is point in the right direction and tell him to either take it, guard it, or kill it, and he'll do it. Even though he is 25, he can sometimes act slightly immature and boyish. He is used to being around other grunts and they sometimes talk about inappropriate things. Gena didn't score impressively on his apptitude test and so he didn't get a fancy job. Regardless, he knows he's not the brightest bulb in the box, but at least he knows how to kill! Once Gena makes friends with someone, they may have a friend for life. Brotherhood comes easy with those he's on a team with. He isn't afraid to tell another person if their idea is stupid, and he's very opinionated. Gena will speak openly about how he feels to another person's face whether they like it or not.

Current Story: Gena scored low on his apptitude test and was deemed only good enough to be a grunt in the SCG. He has since been treated like shit, put on guard duty, and at the mercy of ignorant lieutenants who think they know what they're doing. If there was one thing that Gena learned while serving, scoring high on the apptitude test didn't mean one was a genius. When the wolf-sighting craze began, he immediately jumped on the bounty hunter job to get away from his unit. Finally, he could be independent and plan how to catch a wolf how he wants to.

Character Name: Tatiana Volkova
Nickname: Tat
Age: 27 yrs.
Gender: female
Height: 5’8”
Weight: 180lbs
Hair Color: Copper tones
Eye Color: Green
Complexion: pale
Build: curvy/athletic
Occupation: Nurse
Visual Human Appearance:
wolfgirl.jpg
Written Human Appearance: She is a young Caucasian woman who prefers to wear as little makeup as possible. She has a pale complexion due to the dome above the city. Her eyes are gleaming green, her body type is an athletic build with a womanly curviness to her breast and hip areas. She works out at a gym near her home nearly every day after work, to maintain her body. Her hair is overall straight with a slight natural curl in it, it's a light copper that falls to around the middle of her back. She prefers to keep her hair loosely down when she has free time, but when she is working or working-out it is usually in a tight bun. Her usual clothing: is a knee-length maroon woman's trench coat, either a white long-sleeved sweater or a short-sleeved wide-rimmed shirt, always wears her mother's gold sun pendant on a thin gold chain that stops right above her cleavage. Her lower half is dressed in one or two small black leather belts with silver buckles, holding her skirt up around her natural high waistline, her black skirt fall to mid-thigh. She wears pantyhose and thigh-high black boots, with a medium-sized heel.

Personality: Tatiana formally trained as a nurse thanks to her mother, she knows a lot of ‘old-world’ medicine, that was passed down through the family. She was very observant while growing up under the watchful dome residents. Tatiana quickly learned that if you play the game that the nobles like and they can at least see your statistical worth, your life is so much easier. She tries to analyze people before they become a problem and hates being in situations she cannot control. She is a deeply passionate person, which can be most often seen in her temper. While she is strong-willed and a little scary at times, she can be girly and likes sweet things and cute clothes too. At least she tries her best not to show other people her more vulnerable side.

Written Wolf Appearance: Tatiana's wolf form reflects her natural human hair, eye color, and complexion in her coat. She has a base coat that is a light copper coloration from her nose, down her back to her tail this color extends to her chest, the meat of her hips and shoulders, and a splash of this color can be seen on the tops of all her paws. She has a darker splash of copper/brown through her light copper areas, most noticeable in the middle of her chest, the crown of her back, and the top and very tip of her tail. Tatiana's light copper bleeds into a creamy color around her forehead, in between her shoulder and paws, her ribs, and her tail. After the creamy color is white, which graces her lower jaw to the top of her chest, her inner ear fluff, the underside of her paws that runs up to her belly and down to her tail. Her most notable feature is her eye markings of copper that run from the outer corners of her eyes down her cheeks and neck. She also keeps her bright green eyes as a wolf, with a rosy nose that seems to be sensitive to the sun, often getting sunburned. Her paw pads are also a rose color but are starting to darken up as she keeps using them.

Visual Wolf Appearance: wolf.jpg
Current Story: She had just graduated medical school and was debating with herself, whether or not to get her doctorate when her mother died. Her mother was shot on site; she was trying to escape from the city’s dome. When her mother was identified, she caused major “cleaning” of the family’s living courters. The city was unable to find any books or records of anything illegal. Their home was left in shambles and she was forced to take a job as a nurse to pay for damages and to make her family look better to the government.

Visual Wolf Appearance:
low_quality_wolf_adopt__closed_by_kfcemployee-d8k7q5j.jpg
Written Human Appearance: Ivana is an unfriendly-looking fellow, intimidating and stony. Her hair is a slightly wavy, dark, unassuming brown with ashen hues and flecks of natural red hairs that reaches between her shoulder blades, and is thick enough to resemble lion's mane when it frames her face and shoulders. She wouldn't stand out within a crowd if it wasn't for her caramel skin and reddish eyes that mark her as exotic in Stepangrad's part of the world. She wears no makeup and her lips are often roughed up by her worrying at them, further adding to her rough appearance beside the scars that mark her left eye, mouth, and across her nose (scars match with wolf). Her body carries many tiny scars on her hands, arms, and legs from training, sparring, and general clumsiness. She has a large scar at the back of her neck from when she had her ID and tracker removed, and a large slash across her ribcage from a sparring accident. Her caramel skin lightens on her palms and towards her torso into a creamy color, and she has a thin white stripe that is visible from the bottom of her ribcage to her navel if one looks hard enough. Her body is built solidly, made with compact but athletic principles that make her appear more lean than buff, but her shoulders and legs are powerfully muscled. She always wears a chain dog collar around her neck given to her by a cynical friend of hers that once referred to each other as 'trained dogs'. Her left eye has gone grey with blindness, and the scars that cut across it trail down and cut past her lips a little, accompanied by a few horizontal scars across the bridge of her nose.

Written Wolf Appearance: Ivana's wolf is a dark bay with light accents. Her limbs, tail, and muzzle are all a dark chocolate color, framed by varying shades of clay and browns. She has a light yellow-brown saddle marking and patches of the same color on areas where the fur grows longer. Her ears are slightly smaller than those of an average wolf, and tend to lean forward while the right one almost half-flops over like a dog's ear would. Her left eye has gone grey with blindness, and scars over that eye trail down and across her jowls and a few scrape over the bridge of her nose. A long scar is visible across her right ribcage and another large one is half-hidden by the fur on the back of her neck. Many small cuts are scattered across her legs.

Personality: Ivana is very stoic, and doesn't often let others know what she is thinking unless she is asked. She's a deep thinker who prefers to speak only when necessary and is unafraid to go off and do whatever she wants regardless if she has permission or not. She's independent and strong-willed, uncaring of what others may think of her. She's prone to prefer fighting over arguing, believing that some people just need to have it beaten into them to get a point across, and her temper is short with things she finds annoying, particularly indecisiveness and foolishness. However, Joan does have a great sense of humor and appreciates silliness for what it is when it happens, and is softer than she leads people to believe. Ivana is not quick to relax or grow close to people, but once you get past the nasty onion layers of Ivana, she's a very caring and protective individual, no matter how much of a little turd she likes to act as. Once she loosens up, Joan's quick and scathing wit is something to behold, and her aggressive exterior tempers into something closer to a grumpy but caring friend.

Current Story: There is no place in the city for a defiant fighter. Ivana's aptitude test scored her as a candidate for the elite police force in Stepangrad, and she was pulled from her classes and her home and sent to a training camp when she caught the eye of a Noble looking for a new member for their security team. She excelled in tactics, survival, and became almost unparalleled in hand-to-hand combat. She was groomed to be the perfect soldier, but little did they know that Ivana was filled with hatred for the system that took her away from her family and stripped whatever freedom she might have had, and she was biding her time to kill the noble that had taken it from her. However, her last test before becoming the noble's guard required her to kill a man who had been illegally removing ID chips. Ivana could not-would not- kill him, no matter how many like him she had hurt before, tortured before, or arrested before. She hated the noble but killing the innocent was the last thing she had not done in her efforts to get to him. So, she broke out with the man, killing fellow trainees and soldiers in a mad dash to escape. She fled and hid within the city, where the man got her medical attention and aided in removing her ID. Unfortunately, ever since the escape her wounded eye took a turn for the worst and has gone completely blind. Ivana now lives under the radar and looking for a way to escape Stepangrad. Upon the appearance of a wolf in the city, security had been doubled and there was no way Joan was ever going to escape and she knew it. She couldn't go back to her family, lest they be marked as traitors for harboring a fugitive, she couldn't stay in the city or she'd eventually be caught, and escaping... she knew little about the world outside Stepangrad. Perhaps she could find a quiet place to settle down, but the future did not look bright no matter what she figured she could do. Bringing down the nobles was not an option; too many were afraid or comfortable to ever consider rising against the government, and she knows nothing about inciting a rebellion-- only how to squash them. She was ready to die in a last-ditch effort to kill a noble, feeling that whatever else she did would be inevitable and a waste to everything she had accomplished; to die without leaving at least a tiny dent in the system that tore her from her family. Sasha appeared to her when she was running from a sudden swarm of SPD came rushing into her location. She began to run when one of them spotted her, and in her mad dash to get away, she locked eyes with an old man running in the same direction; the next thing she knew, she was running on all fours and covered in fur. Disoriented and confused but determined to get away, she chased after the old man and followed the group into the sewers. Anger and shock course through her as she runs with them, suddenly thrust into a situation where she once again has no choice in what she can do; stay in the city as a wolf and die without ever even having a shot at revenge, or leave and learn how to appear human again. Then return and probably die trying for her revenge. But something within her is tired of fighting, tired of the inevitability of her death and wants to start a new life, but what other options are there for her?

Written Human Appearance: Joan is an unfriendly-looking fellow, intimidating and stony.
Written Wolf Appearance: Joan's wolf is a dark bay with light accents.

Personality: Joan is very stoic, and doesn't often let others know what she is thinking unless she is asked. Joan is not quick to relax or grow close to people, but once you get past the nasty onion layers of Joan, she's a very caring and protective individual, no matter how much of a little turd she likes to act as. Once she loosens up, Joan's quick and scathing wit is something to behold, and her aggressive exterior tempers into something closer to a grumpy but caring friend.

Current Story: There is no place in the city for a defiant fighter. Joan's aptitude test scored her as a candidate for the elite police force in Stepangrad, and she was pulled from her classes and her home and sent to a training camp when she caught the eye of a Noble looking for a new member for their security team. She excelled in tactics, survival, and became almost unparalleled in hand-to-hand combat. She was groomed to be the perfect soldier, but little did they know that Joan was filled with hatred for the system that took her away from her family and stripped whatever freedom she might have had, and she was biding her time to kill the noble that had taken it from her. However, her last test before becoming the noble's guard required her to kill a man who had been illegally removing ID chips. Joan could not-would not- kill him, no matter how many like him she had hurt before, tortured before, or arrested before. Joan now lives under the radar and looking for a way to escape Stepangrad.

Her current story needs more. Since we will be starting in Chapter Two, I need to know what she did during the wolf appearance, Sasha's appearance, and what interactions had her become a wolf and what her motivations are for following Sasha. Because he is leading the wolves out of Stepangrad, and you make multiple mentions of her being upset about being separated from her family. If she leaves Stepangrad, she won't be around them at all.

Lastly, her name needs to be Russian. This whole game follows a Russian theme just like how most characters have Japanese names in an anime. All characters who join this game will have a Russian name. The purpose is to expose writers to other cultures.

I'll have to change Kit's last name then. I forgot we were going with a Russian theme.
