The Legend of Korra - Wikipedia
This is an RP that may include Canon and Original Characters. However, it is set about 20 years after the end of Legend of Korra Book 4. Most of the originals from Last Airbender will have passed away. Korra and Asami never return from the vacation in the spirit world and are presumed dead. (Aang died at age 66, which was considered young.) She pushed herself into the Avatar state far too much, and suffered catastrophic damage, ending her natural lifespan very early.
Shortly after the end of Book Four, the third portal to the spirit realm closed again. It had been created when the Spirit Vine weapon was destroyed. Whether its closure was natural, or the result of something caused by the Avatar is unknown. But this likely marks the moment of Korra's passing.
Legend of Korra was set in a 1920’s themed setting. This RP will be set in a 1950’s themed setting. There will be two main plots in the RP. The first will be the search for the next avatar. The second will be the introduction of four new very rare (one of a kind) benders. The world will be emerging from a vast war resulting in the destruction of Republic City. The Earth Democratic States have entered a new era of something akin to the Red Scare. The Fire and Water Nations are reeling from a narrow defeat. The world has entered an uneasy state of truce. The Air Nomads are persona non grata thanks to their refusal to choose sides, but have taken in refugees from Republic City.
Part of the next great turmoil will be the struggle between the Spiritual and Secular (technology) as the various tribes and nations have begun to exploit the natural resources of the world.
Characters
You may run either one of the four new benders. If you choose one of these, you MUST develop a very detailed and developed CS. Should you ghost, the character will be run by a new member or the group. This is for the sake of continuity. These characters MUST be young - no older than young adults. Their skills should be developed slowly.
You may run one of the younger Canon characters. You will need to write a CS for them. Do some research on the internet at fan sites. Then age them about 20 years. They may have families.
You may run offspring of Canon characters, assuming they survived. (NO, not Korra’s!!!)
You may run original characters, bender or non bender.
Please allow others to develop characters before hogging more than one Canon character or Canon character as part of your background.
NO, you may not bend two elements. (However, you can have specialties within your own element.) Please note that some are illegal.
Specialized bending techniques
My Character
I have plans for Varrik and Zhu Li. They will have at least a son and daughter, now entering adulthood. My character is going to be an adopted son of this pair, who is showing promise as an inventor himself, and will be looked upon with jealousy by his adoptive siblings who fear their father favors him - as neither have shown such promise.
Note: Varrik was from the Northern Water Tribe for those who don't recall. In Book Two he was involved in a rebellion against the South. He also filled a role not unlike that of Howard Hughes, and became the inventor of Movers (movies) as well as the first WMC, the spirit vine canon. (Fortunately the spirit vines are all but gone.)
The Next Avatar
The Avatar Cycle is based on the passage of the four seasons, which coincides with the order in which Wan first learned the elements; fire related to summer, air to autumn, water to winter, and earth to spring. When an Avatar dies, the next Avatar will be born into the next nation in the Avatar Cycle.
Aang was Air; Korra was Water. This means the next Avatar will be Earth.
The New Benders
The new benders will form Team Avatar. Of course, with no avatar this may be difficult. But their role will be much the same; bringing balance to the world and restoring order.
Parent Element - New Specialty
Please note: Do not use these in an OP manner. For example, no creating black holes with gravity - or even crushing people under their own weight. No creating lasers to slice people in half. Why? Because Avatar was a show for kids. As such, it didn’t happen in the series. We will observe anime physics. (Think about it. With the mass of those hunks of stone being tossed around, a normal person would be crushed. They would weigh tons. And let’s not get into lightning bolts that arc across a 30 yard gap.) In short, let’s make use of story friendly plot device physics.
Air - Sound
This includes abilitie like echolocation, ultrasounding, making noise, and music. One can also muffle or eliminate sounds. At its most destructive one can simulate a sonic weapon - to stun or shatter. This ability is ideal for a blind character.
Water - Life
This is the evolution of abilities beyond healing and bloodbending. Simple abilities would include art like tattooing (or removal), body sensing (sensing injuries). It would allow the equivalent of plastic surgery. Advanced abilites would be regeneration of limbs and organs, or removal of scars. It could also help in curing a disease or stopping a poison.
Earth - Gravity
Flight is a rare Air bending technique that was used by two benders. Unfortunately this discipline required giving up ALL worldly attachments (not conducive to being part of a group.) This is a little different as one can levitate masses, turn gravity upside down in a local region to run on the ceiling. It will also affect ANY material - even platinum which is resistant to metal bending. You will be able to pin your foes to the ground, possibly cause them to fall and break bones. (I would say that 2-3 G's will be a maximum, with the effect strongest at the focus.)
Fire - Light
This ability will allow the creation of optical illusions, light to see by (or darkness). At its most powerful one could develop invisibility, blind someone or create a laser. It is also possible to use thermal vision as this ability is part of the Fire element.
