"Nothing Is Ever A Waste Until You Give Up On It."
The sound of machinery moving filled the atmosphere for miles around. Countless mechanical beings swept through the clean, chic streets of what was known as 'Mechanica's Factorial City', which was an interdimensional production factory that doubled as a business for the Veritas, among many other things. The Veritas was reaching out to other dimensions recently and happened to stumble upon this one, wherein which it sought to do business with the beings of this realm.

Machines of all kinds were working endlessly throughout the streets of the city: Keeping it clean, transporting cargo, assisting others, and much more, preparing for the completed transition from the Veritas to this alternate dimension.

A Dimension Gate -- which was a portal that the people of the Veritas used as a means of travel -- opened up above a barren wasteland in this dimension, and what looked like an enormous mechanized city transitioned from it in a fashion that was like a transforming robot. Parts were disconnecting and reconnecting in different areas as they dropped through the hole, planting the base of the city deep in the ground of the new barren land. Buildings shifted from their heights down below to the base in a mechanical fashion, conjoining with the metals and sinking into their respective places on the base panel. Many tiny hovering machines could be seen orbiting the enormous mobile transforming city, and when it finally rooted itself to the ground, there came a release of steam like that of a relieving sigh.

Mechanica's Factorial City made contact with the new world.

Now, the machines of Mechanica's Factorial City were all of a hive-mind -- they worked together under Mechanica, herself, who was and ruled the city. They toiled to get their productions ready so that they could begin their business in this dimension, as well as the transportation of the other parts of Mechanica's Factorial City. As it was, even as a gigantic city of machinery, it was incomplete; it still had extra parts to it. One could only wonder how large this mysterious city actually was... And if it was limited to being just a city.

There was only one way to find out.

The young bot walk down upon the endless road of the barren wastelands, where few straws of grass were sticking out and small cracks were everywhere on the hard floor. Very few trees were spotted far around her and no form of life could be spotted unfortunately. It was quite silent besides the wind brushing against her metal ever so often. Marigold stopped at her tracks as she turns her head around to stare at the humongous mountains in the distance. Marigold had just left the mountains to continue her exploring but the sight brought back memories of a town while she was crossing the mountain. She could remembered being surrounded by robot with their weapons aimed at her, wasn’t quite a pleasant experience but after some explaining and gaining their trust, Marigold had gained a few friends along her way till she had to leave.

A small appeared from the memories coming to her mind. She’ll be sure to visit the town anytime soon, but for now the world was ahead of her, and it needed to be explored. She turns back and continues on with her journey, she had been informed by the town folks that it would take a few days to leave the wasteland on foot which did put her in dismays, but she had experienced worse.

But then, Marigold noticed something strange in the sky, she lift her head up only to gasp to see a huge portal opening up in the sky. Her jaw dropped to the floor with her boggling eyes staring once the portal fully opens up. The young bot was left speechless, never in her life had she seen any this.. amazing in her life! Nor did she know something like this was possible for reality to accept. A wide grin slowly grew with tiny stars sparkling in her red eyes. Without a second thought, she started moving towards the center of the portal, soon picking up the pace and sprinting towards it. The portal was far in the distance but luckily with her speed it wouldn’t take too long, but immediately stopped in her tracks as a large object slowly fell from the portal. The object created strong wind with its largeness falling from the portal, blowing towards her which almost made her fall but she stood down before she let that happen. She held a arm up to shield her eyes from incoming dust, but even then, she lifted her arm up a little to watch the object land.

Once it did, she stares in awe as the object began transforming and bits of it were moving around the place. It was fantastic, it was like a flower blossoming for the first time. Once the object was finished, she couldn’t believed it was a city.. nevertheless, she couldn’t believed a city came from the sky! Well, a portal to be exact.

Curiosity was basically screaming at her to investigate, and of course, she stood no objections to that. Without hesitation, Marigold sprints off towards the entrance of the city, she must know what this city was! She couldn’t just avoid something exciting as this!

Once she zooms through the entrance, the young bot stopped to take a moment to scan the new city. It was obviously huge, and the buildings were all mechanical. She darted her head left to right, up or down to search if any beings were by.

As Marigold scanned the city, she would find that it was completely and fully mechanical. Everything was robotic, even though it looked like a normal, modern city. There were made hovering droids flying around up near the top, but none that noticed her near the bottom. The entrance to the city was left bare, but the sound of hustling machines stirred within the center of the city, some of which could be visibly seen in the distance. Hundreds of machines moving in a synchronized, coordinated fashion through the city streets and doing their assigned tasks, keeping the city clean, and patrolling for anything unusual.

Before long, a floating machine called a 'Serviceman' -- a mechanical man that looked like a human police officer, but bearing a long jacket and captain's hat -- stood before her, insisting that she stop where she was. "Halt," the Serviceman said, "You must have clearance to continue into the city." He scanned Marigold to see what she was, as the initial understanding was that she was a foreign creature from unknown parts in the wastelands that might have wandered too far off from the natural location it lived in. Like a lost human from a city or a wild animal from the wilderness.

"You are..." the Serviceman started to say, eyes gleaming, "You are a Mechanica, like us." They referred to all machines as 'Mechanica', as that was the name of machines in their dimension. "You are a Mechanica, like us," the Serviceman repeated, stepping aside, "You may enter the city. However, do not disturb the natural order of the other Mechanica. If you need assistance, a Serviceman -- another Mechanica that looks like me -- will assist you." He nodded his head. "That is what we are for."

With that, he allowed Marigold into the streets of Mechanica's Factorial City.

Marigold expression was filled with joy to see so many bots around, she hasn’t seen this many since visiting the Sea Base! Marigold turn to the voice calling her to halt, the glimpse of a human face made her freeze to the core, but she soon noted after that the human-alike was floating. Even if that was unusual and a sign of this being being a fake human, she was still wary. She had come across humans with hidden machines that allowed them to float. She look up at the serviceman as he scanned her for approval to stay in the city. Mechanica? Was that another word these robots referred to themselves? Well, she had heard bots from the Sea Base that some robots used other names, most likely from other countries they were built in. A sigh of relief came once he confirmed to be a robot in disguise. Robots warned her to stay away from humans since they would probably capture robots with sentience to turn them in to the government, or they would just keep them to themselves for whatever they had planned for them.

Once the serviceman left, Marigold was free to explore the city, and immediately began walking down the street of the busy city. Why she was walking down the streets, Marigold wondered if the townfolks from the mountains were already spying the city from afar. They probably are, but hopefully they won’t do anything extremely. She wouldn’t want her new friends to be harmed in anyway. Once she entered through the busy streets, Marigold would watch her step of not getting run over by the other robots doing their tasks. She spots a item store from the corner of her eye. Curious to see the items they’ve hold, Marigold squeezes through the crowd to enter through the doors of the shop.

.................

Far, far from the distance of the city, blended with the thick layers of snow that covered the mountains, many eyes from different locations zoomed to scan the city, spying on the flying drones and any robots that they could spot from afar.

A transmission notified into one of their spy’s minds and immediately picked it up.

‘Have you identified the intruder?’

‘No sir, it doesn’t look like this.. city doesn’t belongs to any of the bases.’ The robot replied in their mind. ‘And it doesn’t seem the bots seem to be hostile. Our team hasn’t spotted any preparing of attack yet.’

The voice on the other side gave a deep “mhm” for the update,

‘What should we do sir? Should we engage with the Intruders?’

‘No, keep still at your positions. If the intruders aren’t doing anything fishy then we should lay low to avoid trouble. Don’t want to stir commotion around these parts.’ The voice replied, ‘But keep watching them. They’re still intruders no matter what. Especially if the radar says they appeared out of nowhere..’ The voice mumbled.

‘Yes sir.’

The transmission stopped as the robot went back to spying the city from afar.

As Marigold walked through the city, she would see how all of the Mechanica worked with each other in harmony to get their individual tasks done. The other Servicemen -- who did not float, like the first one, but stood firmly on the ground -- were at every street corner, seeming to be keeping direction and peace as the Drones rolled past on their little tracks, picking at specks of dust with one of their four utility arms: The Picker, the Grabber, the Piercer, and the Digger. The Drones were small machines that looked like miniature tanks, about the size of a human child, with humanoid faces, but lower torsos that were tracks. Rolling along, the Servicemen guided the Drones, the Drones did menial tasks, and the other 'Standard' Mechanica did their jobs, as well. There was a Mechanica which was a bicycle with a monitor hooked up to its steering wheel and resting as the seat, occasionally stopping to gather materials and contain them inside of its boxy monitor frame. A 'Cycling Recycler'. There were so very many different types of Mechanica busy about the Factorial City that one could only wonder 'Who produced all of these machines?'

Suddenly, a floating eye hovered toward Marigold, inspecting her thoroughly before projecting from its top a secret head with another set of smaller, beady, gleaming eyes. An 'Eyeborg'. The job of the Eyeborgs was was to serve as extra eyes for the Mechanica, observing things that were normally overlooked, and providing a certain omniscience to the hive-mind. When it inspected Marigold and sensed that she was no threat, it hovered on, withdrawing its head back into the rotund body of the gigantic robotic eye.

There were even mechanical animals roaming about -- called 'Mechanimals' -- acting as if they were real animals, yet still remaining true to their robotic nature. Mechanica's Factorial City was simply filled to the brim with interesting machines.

However, one of the Sensor Mechanica picked up on the frequency from the nearby base, intercepting it with its wide reception range and tuning in on the frequency. That's when the Factorial City stopped for a moment, and each and every Mechanica in the city had a red gleam in its eyes. Moments later, they shifted completely, doing the same things but in a different order, the Servicemen orchestrating the streets and giving signals to the Loader Mechanica that were hauling equipment. The Mechanica in the city seemed to lessen after a while, until there were only Servicemen on the streets, each of them suddenly having a red gleam in their eyes for a brief moment.

The only machine in the city that was not part of the hive-mind network of Mechanica was Marigold, and so she shouldn't have known what was going on nor where to go, like the rest of the Mechanica. The Servicemen -- who were all linked up in the network, and therefore knew what each other one knew -- would attend to Marigold, one saying to her, "Come with me," and nothing more. The Servicemen marched off into a certain formation, but did not retreat into the recesses of the city like the other Mechanica did. Instead, they exited the city limits and stood as security at the border... All except the one attending to Marigold. Several screens flew out of the tops of buildings and projected images outward beyond the city limits, and the city, itself... Well... After a certain amount of mechanical whirring was heard, stood up on several mechanical legs, which were like that of an animal or insect. They began to move the city to a distance that was out of range of the base's communication, staying just shy of the border and dropping the city back down on the ground.

Something was going on with Mechanica's Factorial City, and only the Mechanica could tell what it was.

She was absolutely amazed at the city’s uniqueness of the bots surrounding it as she ran along. Marigold would examine some of the robots close-up as sometimes she couldn’t really understand the concept of personal space. When she saw the eyeborg floating above her, Marigold show a wide smile as she wave her arms at the being till it flew away someplace else. She even tried to pet some of the robot animals that were fortunate enough to be lurking nearby. Of course, Marigold was having a blast exploring this strange city, she never even seen bots like this before!

Marigold noticed one of the robots nearby that their eyes were gleaming bright red. Uh oh, that wasn’t a good sign. Whenever a robot’s eyes glow red it always ends in nothing but trouble! She learned from experience. But then she turns to scan the busy crowd and gawked to see every last one of them had their eyes gleaming red. The fact that they even stopped made her core plump electricity faster. Her red eyes darted left to right as the robots went along as if nothing had happened. A wary feeling was starting to rise in her as robots began clearing up the streets till all that was left were the servicemen and Marigold. Now Marigold was panicking if she had done something wrong. Did she accidentally tripped one of the robots? Is something happening to the city?? If so, the only thing she could think of are the robots up at the mountains. Were they already engaged in combat with the city? She would’ve thought they would at least stood from a distance first!

But she was snapped out of her thoughts as one of the servicemen came up to her to follow him. Given the circumstances, it would be best to follow orders for now, and so she followed after them, glancing to the buildings side by side, Marigold was dazzled at what the current situation was. Once they exited out of the city, Marigold thought that she was being kicked out, but it doesn’t seem the servicemen were returning back to the city. She even look around the wasteland to discover no robots nearby other than them either. What gives?

As she heard the whirring coming under the city, Marigold almost had a shut down once mechanical legs sprouted from the city’s floor and began crawling away. Her jaw wide open as she began immediately chasing after the crawling city, shouting nonsense but was obviously hyper about it. She only stopped after the city finally settled in. Her eyes were full of shining stars.. wow, this city was the BEST! Marigold was so distracted at the city’s abilities that she didn’t even pay attention to the fact that the city moved farther away from the mountain base.

........

As the robots from above kept watch, the sudden movements stopping and their eyes glowing red, the robots in charge of spying the city all took note of it. They would’ve even gave each other a quick glance but they were far apart from one another. As the robots afar began changing their positions, a spy transmitted a report a head.

‘Sir! We’re reporting sudden change of behavior upon the intruders. It seems they’re clearing up on the streets. They’ve stopped moving and their eyes turned red before this. We’d believe they might have noticed us!’ The spy reported.

‘Keep watch on the intruders! Soldiers will be sent in the scene. It’s clear they’re getting ready to engage in combat! Keep those reports coming for any sudden behavior of them.’

‘Yes sir!’

From the mountains, soldiers sprouted up and began charging down the snowy mountain. Their long blade feet allowing them to bolt down the mountain as if they were skiing. Their long sharp blade-like arms pointing through the snow to guide them. Their metal being as pure as snow to blend in through their surroundings.

But once the city lifted itself up with its legs, reports immediately came through the transmission.

‘Sir! Mechanical legs has sprouted out under the city and it has now started moving as we speak!’

There was a sudden pause to the reply before the voice on the other side responded ‘Is it heading this way?’

‘No, actually. It’s moving.. away from the base.’ The spy reported.

There was even longer pause before the other voice spoke. “Keep watching it in case they have a trick up their sleeves. Soldiers will come to guard the area.’

‘Yes sir!’

And finally the transmission stopped, but on the other side inside the base, the large being press his crab-claws against his forehand as a uncertain grunt hums out. “So the city has moved out of the radar’s reach?” His eyes narrowed over to a mechanical goat with long curved horns with their arms crossing. “It appears so. We’re still not sure of the intruders motive.” The goat said, staring at the large screen of the radar not detecting anything in its reach.

The base in quite a mess, bots were running around the place trying to figuring out what was happening as soldiers were being ordered left to right by commanders and captains.

“But personally, I’m wondering who these robots are and what exactly are they trying to achieve here.” The goat mumbled.

“We already know they’re weren’t sent from the other bases. We’ve sent transmissions to confirm that. Plus, Their design doesn’t look like any of the bases would made. The closest would be the Gold Kingdom but I believe those designs would be hideous to Queen Alice’s standards.” The large being explained.

“Well, perhaps it’s a new base we had no contact with before.. but I highly doubt that myself. That thing doesn’t scream amateur in building-wise. That is, if they kept all of that a secret from all the bases, from the rest of the world.” The goat took a slow glance at the large being.

“It is impressive, but they aren’t smart in their common senses. Don’t they realize by having something this massive out of the open is dangerous to not just them but to us if it attracts human?” He clenched his sharp fangs, “it’s like they want to be reformed.” He let out a frustrated sigh.

“Luckily for them humans activities haven’t been spotted for quite a few months. But still, it’s a huge risk they’re making here.” The large being stares down at the floor, with his mind filled with questions of what these strange robots were even doing.

"As Expected," a voice blared from the intercoms that were littered throughout the city, a robotic woman's face appearing on all of the floating screens before each of the floating screens combined into one enormous screen which was able to be seen across the entire land, pointed at the mountains. "You Are Seeking War With Us." The gigantic screen bore down on the army that was rushing down the mountain, the sleek, metallic gray face of the woman dressed in Gothic Lolita glaring with an emotionless expression, but with red eyes that could cut through the earth. "We Are Out Of Range Of YOUR Communication, But You Are Not Out Of Range Of Mine," the mechanical woman said. "I Will Warn You Now Not To Make War With Us, For You Are Dealing With Powers Far Beyond Your Understanding. We Are Here To Do Business; To Establish Trade And Commerce."

Suddenly, on the other side of the mountain, a Dimension Gate opened up again, this time releasing what looked to be a castle's steeple -- tall, long, and pointed. It stood just about as tall as the mountains, themselves, and standing at the top in the midst of the steeple was the woman in Gothic Lolita, sitting on a throne of cables, wires, and machinery. "I Am Mechanica," the mechanical woman said from the screen on the opposite end of the mountain, where the Factorial City was, "And This Is My Factorial City That I Use To Initiate And Engage With Exchange And Delivery." As she spoke, she had an authoritative, yet emotionless tone to her voice, saying to those in the base, "Stand Down And Seek Peace With Us, That We Might Exchange Our Wares And Information." They were machines, so they should have understood the value of good information.

Meanwhile, as Mechanica spoke to the other machines herself, the Serviceman that was guiding Marigold would escort her back into the city, but all of the other ones remained outside of it, as if ready for an attack. They were well equipped, whether they looked it or not. Mechanica's Factorial City was a production factory that could make infinitely many other Mechanica as long as Mechanica, herself, was hooked up to the Master Control Unit, which she kept as her throne in the tower on the other side of the mountain. "It is dangerous here now," the Serviceman said to Marigold, "You must quickly hide yourself." Though, every Mechanica had a place in the Factorial City, so Marigold's being an outsider of the city meant that she had nowhere to go to, like the others. The Serviceman came to this conclusion rather swiftly, saying then to her, "I will take you to a place that you can hide." The Serviceman began to walk in the direction of one of the buildings, but this building was not like all of the other buildings... It looked more like a factory, and was the largest building out of all the buildings in the Factorial City, including the skyscrapers. "Here, inside the heart of the Factorial City, the Servicemaids will look after you." There was an enormous gear on the ginormous door, which spun and creaked slowly as the doors to the innards of the Factorial City opened up for Marigold. "We all are a hive-mind," the Serviceman said as he saluted Marigold, "We know what is going on."

The Servicemen all outside of the city -- the countless number of black-coated officer-looking humanoid Mechanica -- each got into formation to protect the city from the invaders. They may have stopped what they were doing presently, but at a whim, they could start back up again, and the Servicemen had to be ready to take on whatever other machines would face them. If things got really hectic, then the next wave of Mechanica would be sent out... Wave after wave, new Mechanica would show up that were better than the last and tasked with a different duty to deal with hostile threats. Each of the Servicemen saluted and then stood their ground, watching with eyes that gleamed red.

"Are You Hostile?" Mechanica asked on her screen, "Do You Need A Demonstration Of Our Power? Or Would You Like To Do Business With Mechanica's Factorial City?"
