Graded [Marauder's Cove] Pirate Booty Job

Davito Aranda

_270bd1cc-5aee-4bdc-8259-5a8556fb52e9.jpeg

Davito had spent the past several weeks in a constant state of paranoia. Whenever possible, he had stayed on guard near the orb, knowing that it was his last chance. He had felt useless after the confrontation, after hearing how the rest of the crew had secured the treasure without him. At least he would get a cut of the profits. Hopefully. Davito now stood a few feet behind the Captain and the First Mate, determined not to let the orb out of his sight. He didn't hear exactly what they said, but he got the gist when Luisa put the orb into her magic book. He sighed heavily, then walked off to go find a drink.

Davito stood near a gaggle of self-important, wealthy looking attendees. He took a measured sip of his wine, took a breath, then approached them. He introduced himself as a knight and made a bit of small talk, trying to gain a bit of trust. "By the way, I was wondering if anything from the auction list had caught your eye? Maybe something that seems worth a bid or two?" He tried to be subtle about his approach, remembering what the Captain had said about measured words and subtlety. He talked with them for a bit longer, tactfully dropping a hint or two to the orb, then politely excused himself.

I hate mingling with the wealthy, Davito thought, taking another sip of his drink. He looked across the ballroom to see Izzy drag Zahrah around the dance floor, talking to people at every chance they got. He kept his attention scanning the room, hand resting on the hilt of his sword, that he had managed to get in under the guise of it being his symbol of office, even though he wasn't a knight anymore. He did notice Ul, moping in the corner, a look of suspicion and resentment on her face. He was going to walk over to her, but instead saw Zeke's dragon beat him to it. "Even the dragon is more useful than I am," Davito muttered, draining what remained in his glass.

Ul's covert attempts to sabotage the party's collective effort bore fruit in an unexpected way. While not entirely derailing the auction, her persuasive discussion with Zahrah sowed seeds of doubt and led to Zahrah's exceedingly chatty disposition. This behavior, in turn, made Zahrah the center of attention in a manner that distracted from the orb's promotion. However, Zahrah's exuberant personality and relentless chatting about the orb's wonders also ensured that no one else could effectively contribute to the discussion about the orb, inadvertently focusing all attention on their narrative.

Zahrah, found to be both endearing and excessively talkative by the guests, managed to carve out a space where their voice was the only one heard regarding the orb. This unique position meant that when Zahrah finally addressed the room, their announcement about the orb's significance went unchallenged, creating an isolated bubble of intrigue among the few who paid attention, albeit within a limited scope due to Zahrah's overwhelming presence deterring broader interest.

1707884630091.pngIzzy stumbled upon a potential buyer by sheer luck amidst her efforts to blend into the background. A distinguished collector of arcane and mystical artifacts named Cassian Vireo, stood out with his keen eye for unique treasures. Cassian, known for his lavish lifestyle and deep pockets which he openly bragged about that evening, was immediately intrigued by Izzy's accidental or otherwise promotion of the orb. His curiosity was piqued not just by the orb's rumored powers but also by the mystery surrounding its recovery and the eclectic crew offering it for sale. Cassian insisted Izzy accompany him that evening and they could talk at length about their treasure hunt and his personal collection as he offered her his arm so they could tour the floor together. If Zahrah came too, he'd offer his other arm. It would be apparent to the observant that Cassian only saw Zahrah as an interesting object and not a person, one he also wanted. His eyes were quite covetous that evening.

Luisa successfully secured the orb within her Grimoire, ensuring its safety but inadvertently diminishing its visibility and, consequently, the interest it might have garnered. The orb's absence from direct view led to whispers and speculation, but the tangible allure that could have driven the bidding higher was notably absent, leaving guests to wonder about the veracity of its supposed powers and history.

1707884867643.pngDavito's networking efforts led him to interact with a pair of sisters, Thalia and Morven, twins self described as sharp entrepreneurs and interested in expanding their collection of enchanted items. While initially skeptical, their conversation with Davito sparked a cautious interest in the orb, intrigued by the knight's subtle hints at its value and the adventure behind its acquisition.

Zeke witnessed an unexpected turn of events as his companion, Stella, the baby dragon, decided the "punch" bowl was an excellent source of refreshment. The ensuing chaos, with staff trying to manage the situation and guests alternating between amusement and alarm, created a diversion that both detracted from and added to the overall excitement of the evening, leaving Zeke to manage the fallout and redirect focus back to the auction.

As the crew navigated these outcomes, the next challenge became clear: to rekindle interest in the orb amidst the diversions and ensure a successful auction despite the hurdles. If they failed to do so now, buyers would likely prioritize competing in other bids and the orb will not achieve as much as hoped, which unknown to some could jeopardize the job as a whole.

Izzy

Seeing some potential in the man, Izzy's lips tilted upwards at the corners. She gave her most graceful of curtsies before gingerly placing a hand on his offered arm. Giggling softly when necessary and listening intently to his every word. Or at least she did her best to appear as if she were hanging on his words. She nodded interestedly when he boasted about his magical menagerie.
DALL-E-2024-02-14-00-19-15-A-watercolor-anime-style-image-featuring-a-romantic-scene-with-a-woman-wh.webp
Surely this man had a fair understanding of magical things. Too bad she didn't, nor did she have a clue what the damn orb did. As far as she knew it just glowed. But she'd listened to Zahrah and Ul tell their tale of underwater diving.

"Ah'm sure y'ev 'eard all aboot th' object we've brought tae auction off. Et was th' 'Appy li'il bugger there tha' found et glowin' on th' bottom of th' sea." She moved to point amiably towards Zahrah. "Pried et' from the fingers uv'ah dead man. An' then after fishin' th' damn thing ahp, we 'ad tae fight off ah crew sailors' lookin' fer th' same thing. Think they callem'selves Sunfires Grasp Ah'think. Bit more people interested en et than' ah'd originally thought." They hadn't actually fought Captain Varick off. They'd fought themelves and lost. But that wasn't important right now. Right now she just needed to get him interested in what it might be. She considered attempting to make up some story about what it might be. But as she listened to the man go on about his magical collection, she considered a possibility. "Ah wonder what ah glowing orb like tha' was doin' so far out. An' t' be important enough tae' hold on to, even after death. " She hoped, in telling him about where and how they'd found the orb, he might have heard a rumour or know something about the orb and how to use it. Not that she cared too much about using it. But it was hard to sell something when you didn't know what it did. If all it did was glow, they weren't going to get jack on that. "'Ave ye'ever 'eard of anythin' like that a'fore?"

Zahrah was happy to hear that Zeke agreed with them on the value of their orb. “I'm really glad you think so as well~” They would reaffirm, before being interrupted by Izzy.

“Dance?” They were a tad taken by surprise by Izzy's sudden request. That said, they recovered quickly enough. “Oh my, what I wonderful idea! I learned that dancing can be great for happiness! I've got quite some skill to show off as well, I'll have you know~” The bragged, as they'd happily allowed themselves to be dragged along towards (and across) the dance floor with Izzy. Although, of course, not without putting some [Performance B (dancing)] into their sway from time to time. If they were going to do this, they might as well go all-out on it, right? Right?

Their dance was only halted when some man interrupted them. They were almost disappointed at first, but then Izzy reminded them of what they were doing here to begin with. “Yes, yes~ The orb was really cool, being guarded by people even after their deaths~” They confirmed Izzy's story. Zahrah either didn't notice or didn't mind being stared at like an object of desire, or perhaps they themselves weren't even sure which was the case, but they for sure didn't act any different as a result. “Oh, oh, mister Vireo, is it true that you have what they say 'deep pocket'.” They looked at this pants. “They don't seem that deep.”

Truthfully, the type of rumours people spread about others were ridiculous. “Oh, oh, so you collect all sorts of things like this? Then you'd definitely need the orb as well!” They nodded to themselves. It seemed like things were falling in place. Somehow. “Say, say, say, you're really, extraordinarily rich, right? I heard some people say that money doesn't buy happiness, but surely, if you can buy whatever you want, like our orb, you can also buy a lot of stuff that makes you happy, right? So surely, it's just weird semantics and money can buy you happiness, right? Or not? I've always wanted to know that!” They were getting a tad distracted again.

Since it would seem like Zahrah was not very receptive to what they said except for the things they wanted to hear and believe in, Ul just silently shook her head and gave up on being able to do anything more since the orb would likely be sold by this point at either way. Since everyone else was just at most interested in getting their cut of the mission and it didn't seem like this would be the greatest opportunity to interact with nobles at this point with all the distractions going on amidst the others, she just supposed it would be best to wait it out and take whatever coinage she got out of it in order to head her own way and hopefully avoid experiences like this again. Considering water travel and the things that could be found around the area were quite pertaining her her interests, the fact that one of her first major experience cooperating with 'pirates' felt so poor and impractical if they were willing to give up at a moment's notice. Especially with the proven racist tyrant wanna-bes that had found themselves in the area for whatever reason, and the constant suspicious fact that the Captain had a multi-situational escape measure that he didn't speak a word about when it would have been useful to know was not a particularly amusing thought on potential betrayal. Pirates were known for betrayal and dirtyhanded schemes after all.

Taking a solitary seat at a table and essentially moping to herself, she disappointedly glanced around the room at the things going on waiting for time to pass as she fidgeted with the singular coin in her hold. Rather than thinking too much about what was going on, she just tried to distract herself with thoughts on where she was going to end up going after the entire ordeal. She had a little list about places she thought of heading to for her own research, but some were a little out of reach or inconvenient at the time, feeling that where she wanted to go next would probably force her back on another ship to go somewhere potentially dangerous. Hopefully the company wouldn't be as suspicious or ridiculous next time, since at this point it didn't seem like anyone present was going to be a likely person she could cooperate with in future from what it felt. Zahrah did not count as Ul was highly questioning her intelligence more than anything and if the person could even comprehend thier words and actions before they said them.

~Luisa O'Sullivan~

1707999241494.png
Luisa excused herself from the table, a subtle nod to Zeke indicating that she needed a moment away from the glittering spectacle. Moving towards the restrooms, she deftly slipped into a concealed alcove, the muted sounds of the ballroom now distant. Leaning against the cool wall, she sighed deeply, a mix of conflicting emotions playing across her features.

The weight of her mission pressed heavily on Luisa's shoulders. As a soldier, she harbored a secret agenda, a mission that demanded her loyalty to a cause beyond the aspirations of the crew she had infiltrated. A flicker of conflict danced in her eyes, torn between duty and the bonds forged amidst the chaos of their adventure.

With a heavy heart, she acknowledged the necessity of her next steps. Luisa ran a hand through her hair, frustration and regret etched on her face. "Damn it," she muttered under her breath, her internal struggle playing out in the solitude of the hidden alcove. Her parents had always thought her to be heartless, ruthless even. They had claimed it was for her good, that it would make her a better soldier and leader. A force to be reckoned with. That it would keep her 'safe'. Perhaps this was what they spoke of, perhaps had she just been a bit more cut off, had she not saved Izzy or sworn an oath to Zeke. Perhaps this wouldn't have been so emotionally draining.

In a moment of solitude, Luisa revealed the truth to herself, acknowledging the weight of her mission to retrieve the orb. Luisa knew the consequences of betrayal, and the burden weighed heavily on her. Loyalty was the trait she was most proud of. But above all else, she was loyal to the crown, to the empire. There was no room for personal sway.

Straightening up, Luisa steeled herself for the inevitable. She vowed silently to pay Zeke back for the deception, to make amends for the trust she was about to breach. "I'm sorry, Zeke," she whispered as if the words could reach Zeke across the distance. "I'll make it right someday. I'll see you have the finest ship the Empire has ever made..."

Determined, Luisa pushed off the wall and exited the concealed alcove. She made her way through the lavishly decorated corridors, her steps measured and purposeful. As she reached the courtyard, a blend of cool night air and soft moonlight embraced her. The weight of her duty clung to her like a shadow, but Luisa moved forward, each step echoing the conflict within.

As she stepped into the moonlit courtyard, Luisa cast one last glance back at the grand ballroom. The vibrant spectacle masked the quiet turmoil within her. With a deep breath, she moved forward toward the gates.

Zeke "Mors" Valdain
1705294738388.png
Zeke was distracted from Luisa's departure by fishing his baby dragon out of the Punch bowl, holding up the sopping wet creature and scolding her softly, before chuckling a bit and trying to turn the situation into something of his advantage instead. He began to place the dragon on his shoulder, grinning around at the potential buyers as he began to brag about how the only creature that could find the orb he was selling that day was a dragon, and so they could never purchase anything like it from someone besides himself.

However, when he noticed Luisa's absence as he looked back to his table, he began to put two and two together and immediately his arm ignited with his [Icarus] Burns due to him losing concentration, before he calmed a moment and rolled his shoulder. He could salvage this. He wasn't captain for nothing, though he made sure to mark her down in his grudge book. He'd find that woman's parents and scalp them, and then do the same to her later.

With his new idea in his head, he excused himself for a moment, and walked out to the bathroom himself, tearing open a rip to Heaven so he could access his... storage of sorts. Coming back with a glowing blue dragon egg with the help of his [Artisan: Dragon Breeder], after attempting to use his "Friendship" with Fred to have the angel bless the egg, he walked back to the marketing area with the egg, placing it down.

"Now, some of you may have not known what it was I'm selling you tonight. But now I'm going to pull back the veil. What you're looking at, and that glowing blue orb we've been talking about, is a Holywing Dragons Egg. Perhaps the only one in existence in our world. I don't need to tell you all how unbelievably powerful a dragon is, or how deliriously valuable this egg is. If you're the first face it sees when you hatch it, you'll have a godlike guardian and servant for the rest of your days. Of course, I won't be parting with this egg for trifles, after all, I know the value of this dear thing. And naturally, the rest of you likely do as well. So who out there wants a divine enforcer?" He offered out, choosing the words of his sales pitch carefully, knowing that certainty, unquestionable loyalty, and power is something any of these people would value beyond wealth, especially with the power offered by a dragon like this. Did he actually think it would be some divine god? Most likely not, he took the best egg, Stella, for himself, but he wouldn't be exactly scamming them either.

Davito Aranda

After disentangling himself from the twins, who seemed altogether too interested in his role in the recovery of the orb, Davito went back towards the crew's table. He decided that he was going to be done socializing for the night, and decided to go back to what he had been doing before, sticking close to the orb. Now that Luisa had it, he couldn't keep an eye on it, but he could at least help protect her. But first, he needed to use the restroom. He had had a bit too much punch.

As he walked back towards the hall, he glanced out a window and saw Luisa walking around the courtyard. Davito looked harder and saw that she was walking purposefully towards the exit. He knew that Zeke wouldn't have let her leave the event, and remembered that she still had the orb. "That damn turncoat," he muttered. He ran to the door and out into the courtyard. He slowed as he approached her, trying to make it seem like their meeting was a coincidence.

"Luisa," he said, matching her speed. "Out for a walk, are we? Why don't we head back inside? The Captain is waiting for you." He paused for a moment. She did not. "You swore an oath, Luisa." Davito said softly, moving to block her path. "We trusted you. But the whole time, you were just using us. Manipulating us. I know you are loyal to your country. I was too, once. But you shouldn't have to give up your morals and relationships just for your orders. No true soldier would willingly hurt their own allies. No one who truly had morals would run the second someone trusted them with something important."

Davito stopped in between her and the gates, drawing his sword. "You know that the biggest crime in the army is desertion, correct? I, for one, am prepared to stop any deserters. If you give it up now, return to the auction, and relinquish the orb to either me or Zeke, I will forget that this ever happened. If you choose to resist, I will have no choice but to try to stop you, whether I can or not. I will not just watch while I have a chance to stop a traitor."

Marauder's Cove Ball

1707553530057-png.1143380

As the evening wore on and the remnants of the auction's excitement settled into a quieter hum of conversation and lingering anticipation, the grand ballroom still buzzed with the energy of the elite gathered there.

"I must say," Cassian began, his voice smooth and laden with an air of authority, "the tale of how you came upon this orb is as intriguing as the artifact itself. A glowing orb, plucked from the hands of a dead man at the bottom of the sea, guarded even in death... It speaks of power, of mystery."

Cassian's gaze shifted towards Zahrah, his covetous eyes betraying his deeper desires. "And you," he addressed Zahrah, though treating them more as an item of fascination than a sentient being, "you are a remarkable... piece. I've not seen anything quite like you. Tell me, who claims ownership of such an extraordinary construct? I find myself intrigued by your...companion. Widersian make? Its far too sophisticated for Empire."

His smile for Zahrah didn't quite reach his eyes. Cassian continued, "I imagine an item—no, a being—such as yourself would make a fascinating addition to my collection. What do you say? Perhaps we can discuss terms of acquisition?"

Cassian, seemingly aware his requests may provoke Izzy, quickly added, "Of course, the orb remains my primary interest. Its allure is undeniable. Let us then focus on securing a deal that benefits us all, excluding, naturally, any uncomfortable propositions."

Luisa's departure with the orb, however, meant that the very heart of their mission was now beyond reach. The absence of the orb at the auction spelled a definitive end to their collective goal, rendering the mission a failure in the eyes of patrons backing Zeke's trip. Luisa's actions, while driven by a loyalty to a greater cause, left a rift among the crew, one that questioned the very foundation of trust and partnership they had built, however tenuous it might have been.

Zeke, the charismatic captain whose visions of grandeur and ambition had rallied this diverse group, faced the reality that the dragon eggs, though valuable, were no substitute for the presumed relic of the old world they had sought to auction. The eggs' failure to captivate the auction's attendees as the orb might have left Zeke without a ship and with only a fraction of his crew still loyal to him. It was unclear where the newest members would wind up by the end of the evening, but only he as captain could do anything about it if there was something to be done at all.

As the auction concluded and the guests indulged in the remainder of the evening's pleasures, the characters found themselves at a crossroads. The mission's outcome, far from the triumph they had envisioned, prompted a moment of introspection and discussion among them. The failure of the auction, while a setback, also presented an opportunity to reassess their goals, the nature of their alliance, and the choices that lay ahead.

Zahrah was rather enjoying their time with mister Cassian. He reminded them a bit of mister Caspian, but a lot less openly flirty. “Oh my~ I don't think people often call me remarkable~ How nice!” They cheered happily at the compliment. “Ownership? Well, that's a bit complicated.” They hadn't debated that for a long time. “Although it was build upon the efforts of many great men before him, sir Thomas Hawkthorn II is the one that programmed the final version of me. I can't recall much about him, as I lost my databases, but I don't think he's in this world... although he might be!” It suddenly made them wonder if they'd want to see their 'father' again.

“However, this really nice body was made for me by my mom! Sophia Smith! She's an artisan that's trying to start up her own guild in Ryken. I sort-off woke up in the body and she said I could keep wandering around in it for now, but she did ask me to come visit again every so often~” They cheerfully continued to explain. “So no, I'm not from Widersia or the Empire~”

They tilted their head at the offer of joining a collection. “I don't think that'll help me research happiness? I mean, It sound like a real honour, of course, but I've got a lot more things to study! You see, I was tasked to figure out a way to make everyone happy! I can't give up on that quest, not even by such a nice sounding offer!” They stated rather firmly, using [Smooth Talker C] as they were realising their entire life's goal might be at stake here.

“Besides, I think I want to belong to everyone equally~ I don't think being part of a single person's collection is going to bring many people happiness. How could I dance with charming folk like Izzy, otherwise, right?” They'd state with a smile. They nodded at the mention of the orb. “Yes, yes, the orb is much better suited for collections!”

~Luisa O'Sullivan~

1708276374680.png
Luisa continued her determined stride through the moonlit courtyard, her thoughts heavy with the weight of duty and regret. The distant strains of the ballroom music faded, leaving her alone with the echoes of her internal conflict. However, her solitude was short-lived as Davito's voice cut through the night, calling her name.

She slowed, acknowledging his presence without looking directly at him. Davito matched her pace, attempting to steer her back toward the grand event they had left behind. His words carried a mixture of disappointment and accusation, a confrontation Luisa had known was inevitable.

As Davito spoke of trust and oaths, Luisa's steps faltered slightly. She knew the gravity of her actions, the breach of trust she was committing for the sake of a mission. The conflict within her intensified as Davito, with a blend of empathy and frustration, questioned the choices she had made.

Davito's mention of desertion and his unsheathed sword brought a tense silence to the courtyard. Luisa turned to face him, her expression unreadable. The cold gleam of the sword in the moonlight emphasized the gravity of the situation.

"You don't understand, Davito," she began, her voice low but resolute. "I've sworn to serve my country, and sometimes that means making sacrifices. I didn't ask for this mission, but I can't turn away from it now. The orb must be secured, and I have my orders."

Her gaze met his, a mixture of determination and a hint of sorrow. "I won't let emotions cloud my duty. If you stand in my way, Davito, I won't hesitate to defend myself. I stand before you as an active duty [Soldier] of the Otenzian Empire. Know that to prevent me from accomplishing my mission is to cross the Empire itself."

Luisa took a step forward, her posture firm, ready for whatever consequences awaited her decision. The moonlight cast shadows on her face, emphasizing the conflict etched in her features. The courtyard, once serene, now held the tension of an impending clash between loyalty and duty.

Passing by the man, Luisa moved toward the gate, her hand moving to her Grimoire as she did. The air around her crackled with an otherworldly energy. Magic danced and coalesced, forming the ethereal outlines of chess pieces—pawns, knights, bishops, and rooks.

Luisa's movements were fluid and deliberate, her control over the summoned entities evident. Without turning back to face Davito, she remarked in a steady voice, "You have a long way to go before you can face me in a real battle Davito... All of you, work together to keep him preoccupied. Counter any attempt or attack made to pursue or stop me, but do not kill anyone"

As Luisa continued her retreat, the summoned chess pieces responded to her commands. The pawns advanced, the knights prepared to charge, the bishops remained vigilant, and the rooks stood as formidable guardians. Davito now stood before twenty opponents. He could back down and take this loss on the chin, or take them all on together. Regardless of his choice, Luisa was quickly vanishing into the distance.

As the night dwindled on Izzy started growing tired of smiling and acting coy. She did her best to maintain the farce, trying hard to keep the ever-ecstatic Zahrah nearby. Though the fact that Cassians attentions were divided became rather apparent. She laughed it off when he mentioned adding them to his collection. Smiled as the oblivious dear chatted away about their creator. She thought she caught a glimpse of Luisa stepping out. But hadn't paid any mind at the time. It wasn't the time to pick that fight anyhow. But when the time came for the end of the auction, and the orb had never been put on display, it slowly began to dawn on her. She scanned the room, and finally found Zeke trying to make a sale. When it finally clicked, she circled her fingers around Zahrahs wrist, with a polite excuse and smile to Cassian. Then quickly attempted to drag Zahrah with her towards Zeke.

"Where's th' fochin' Orb?" She growled out as they arrived within earshot of the captain. Her golden eyes scanned those nearby before she continued. "An' where's yer first mate? An' Th' Davito boyo?" Her voice was low, but the annoyance and frustration in her tone probably wouldn't be taken well by the man. That didn't seem to stop her though. When it became apparent that Luisa was long gone, Izzy had fallen silent. Rubbing her temples. And she hadn't even had the chance to even their scores. Or maybe she had, and she hadn't taken it. She wouldn't make that mistake again. The woman sighed and stretched herself backwards, putting her hands on her hips. She glanced over towards Zahrah before speaking again.

"Oi, listen. There's ah chap 'at wants'tae collect Zahrah. For their menagerie er what not. Tell th' truth ah'm half ah mind'tae try et." The fact she'd dragged Zahrah away spoke differently, but she continued. "Ye've mentioned try'na get ah ship tha' can fly...'ats th' onleh reason ah've stuck around s'long. But ah'm startin'ah think et's ah pipe dream, Capt'n. Give me one good reason not' 'tae take this li'il ball of trouble and make a few quick coins?" Not that she would sell the little menace. But neither of them really knew that either. She pinned Zeke down with her best glare, hands on her hips and waiting for a reason not to go back to the streets alone.

Davito Aranda

Davito watched helplessly as Luisa, and his only chance to get the money he needed, walked out the front gates, leaving him with an army to deal with. He had heard her orders to the chessmen, and started to think about his options. He lowered his sword, then tried to step around them. The rooks didn't give him a chance, raising barriers between him and Luisa. Knowing a lost cause when he saw one, Davito cursed and sheathed his sword. "You can try and run from your problems, Luisa. But you're on my list. When your day of reckoning comes, it won't be fun."

Davito turned away from the giant army in front of him and walked back inside, furious at himself for letting her go without a fight. He knew he had made the right decision, though. He was no good to anybody dead. He entered the hall to see Captain Zeke trying furiously to sell some egg, then give up when no one showed any interest. As he walked closer, he saw Izzy meet up with him. She looked angry and distressed, yelling at the Captain. He heard what she said as he approached. Before he spoke to her, he faced Zeke.

"Captain, I apologize, but your former first mate, Luisa, has taken the orb and run. I tried to stop her, but she summoned an army to guard her escape. Instead of dying for no reason, I have returned to you. Please forgive me, sir." Davito placed a hand on the hilt of his sword. "I swear to you, Captain, that I will remain loyally by your side at least until that wretch of a woman is apprehended and suffers for her crimes against this crew."

Turning toward Izzy, Davito tried to answer a few of her questions. "Both Luisa and the orb are on their way to the military headquarters of this here country. I personally don't care where you go, but I doubt that either the Captain or I would appreciate it if you took Zarah with you. She's a much better member of this crew than you are. I, for one, am staying to support the Captain, as well as for a shared sense of vengeance against Luisa, the traitor of this crew." Davito looked her straight in the eye. "If you leave and take Zarah with you, without giving her a chance to speak with Zeke, I will hunt you down myself." He was making sure that no one from his new crew disappeared all of a sudden.

From the looks of things, they were going awfully terrible. Noticing Luisa's sudden hostility towards those she was working with and naught an orb in sight, she could only assume betrayal was afoot as those who were supposed to be working together now visibly argued and disagreed. Humming quietly as she fiddled with a coin, she rolled her eyes having suspected something like this would come up. It was typical behaviour of pirates, outcasts, and specifically egotistical tyrannical racial supremacists. Sighing and stretching, it didn't seem like there was going to be any pay for anyone since they had allowed an untrustworthy pink-haired moron into their ranks... well, one of them anyway. The human one.

"Looks like it's high time I scoot, this was an incredible use of my time. Next time, I guess if you want to do something right, you gotta follow an overused quote mentioned by everyone who witnesses the failure of their own comrades... " Ul muttered as she tightened the coin's hold in her hand, standing up in order to leave. Clearly, there were those in this world who were up to selfish reasons for their own gain. Glancing to Izzy and Zahrah, she gave a small wave since it was clear her time here was done.

"You 'uns. Fare safe travels, but it seems our time's quite done. Next time, don't trust egomaniacs. Oh, and probably pirates, the backstabbing lot. I got other leads and places to go, hopefully ones'll fair a lot better than this hell. No clue where you're heading off after all this, but if one of y'all ain't got a complete whackhouse place to be anytime soon you can come along for the ride. The difference is unlike our time here, you won't be thrown into a ditch or high-water and washed up emptyhanded. This's my only call, because I'm not waiting 'round and I got dirt to kick up" Ul called to them since she was just gonna get back to riding to other places that peaked her interests, ones which she had a lot more plans for than this little mess. A travelling companion wouldn't be an entirely terrible idea, but one who had rather greedy goals wasn't one she wanted to be taking with her anywhere. Not having much of a clue how long they wanted to stick around, Ul knew she'd have to worm her way into noble society and parties another time since this one felt like a bad place to stick around in.

First things first, she had to get moving, pinpoint her next location in the world she wanted to visit, and probably get some new duds. She liked the robes, but going everywhere in them was becoming a bit of a nuisance. Although, she had just the idea in mind. That was probably her first stop.

Zeke finished distributing what coin he had gotten from the sale of the egg, sighing a bit as he glanced at his crew coming to inform him of his departure. He didn't care much for the Stag Riders departure, since in the end, she didn't amount to much at all. Truthfully, very few of them did. But that didn't mean he wanted to let his crew leave that way, and so he stood as he recieved Davito's oath of loyalty, chuckling a bit. "A bit dramatic lad, but I appreciate it." He said, giving a small tip of his captains hat, before turning to Izzy with a roll of his shoulders, his eyes widening at Davito's threats, quickly turning. "Now there ain't any need for that sort of talk. Whether or not she be choosing to leave is her own accord, and I'll see to Zahrah's safety. I appreciate the sentiment boy, but threatening a crewmate don't do nothin but sow dissent." He said, before turning to Izzy to give his honest answer.

"Truthfully lass, I don't got much of one. Not one that'd be real convincing to you right now. This ain't the first mess I've gotten out of, and it surely won't be the last. But you got no reason to trust that. But I can't be lettin you take Zahrah regardless. Till she announces her resignation of her own accord, she's a part of my crew, and under my protection. Same as you." He began, sitting down in one of the seats in the small section they had to themselves, taking his hat off and rubbing the back of his neck. "I'll be truthful with you lads, tonight was a failure solely because of me. I trusted a lass I shouldn't have. I'll be reimbursing you with what little coin I got from selling the egg, but as for any bigger reward, I'll be needing to move on to my next mark. Not that I'm without a solid list of them." He said, owning up to his own failure and mistake. He would not point fingers at his crew, when the fault rested solely on his shoulders. "If you choose to remain, or if you choose to leave, is your own choice. I'll not be trying to stop you either way. But Izzy, if I may add one last thing." He said, standing up to look at the brown haired woman.

"I know it's no secret to you or me, that we both likely want back at the lass who stole what was ours. And I believe we got a better chance at doing that if we work all together. I got ways, and plenty of connections to deal with something like that." He said slowly, before placing the hat back on his head. "But my dream of a flying ship that can go to the stars themselves is no pipe dream. I'll never be letting go of trying to get home, no matter how many times this world tries to set me back."

Marauder's Cove Ball

1707553530057-png.1143380

As the grandeur of the ballroom began to dim with the departure of its distinguished guests, the echoes of laughter and conversation were replaced by a serene silence, punctuated only by the distant clatter and commotion emanating from the kitchen. The night's aspirations, wrapped in ambition, had unraveled, leaving behind a series of lessons learned and newly formed bonds tested.

Captain Zeke, standing amidst the remnants of his crew, found himself at a crossroads. With only a handful of loyal men by his side and no ship to call his own, the vast seas and skies that once promised endless adventure now offered a stark reminder of the fragility of trust and the weight of dreams. It would fall to him to keep the fire lit in his men and himself.

In the kitchen, the source of the uproar became clear as Stella delightedly caused a scene, her tiny wings flapping amidst the pots and pans. Her innocent mischief served as a stark contrast to the evening's earlier tensions.

The party, now scattered, each found themselves pondering their next steps. Luisa, her allegiance to her country overriding personal connections, had vanished into the night. Izzy would need to decide for herself what she did next. The harsh realities of a pirate's life could sometimes make more honest work appealing in that at least honest folk had regular pay more consistently. For the rest, their journeys were more clear as far as whether they would leave or stay with the crew.

The ballroom now stood empty, its silence a dirtied tissue for the dreams and schemes of those who had passed through its doors. And as the first light of dawn crept through the windows, giving view of the sparkling sea coming alight, its waves and breezes whispered of new beginnings, and of the endless sky and seas that awaited those brave enough to continue chasing their dreams beyond the horizon...

Someone really should get that baby dragon.

pirates doing pirate things. felt kinda like pirates of the Caribbean stuff. Getting robbed, nearly sank, almost captured, and ultimately botching the auction. Feels par for the course. Good efforts from most of you.
