They'd been surprised by Ul's deduction of calling people cute often, as they shook their head. “No, no! A lot of them aren't necessarily cute! Some are beautiful, handsome, cool, awesome, pretty or strong looking instead!” They nodded to themselves. “Although if you want to be mature, I'm sure you could be~ Yet why not be both mature and cute? I think that could work out! Find your own niche!” They offered the results of their exciting deduction.

It was a tad confusing as to why Ul didn't want to explain certain information until they were on the water, but they figured they'd leave it be for now. The next part was also confusing. “I'm not a common person though?” They asked, wondering if those odd rules that they didn't understand were some fleshy-person-thing they were too cotton-based to understand. As they were told to be silent again, they figured they'd comply and held silent, for a bit at least...

After all, they spotted some pink-haired woman (Luisa) that sprang into existence right in front of them. Truly- as another pink-haired compatriot, they simple had to speak out, no? “Oh my, miss, you've got absolutely gorgeous hair and I know that from experience~” That said, there was something else about Luisa that stood out, as they tried desperately to recall what it was. It was rather tough to do so without their databases, but that was one thing that sprang to mind. “Oh, miss! I vaguely recall having read about someone's ratio's! The... what was it called? Three size principle? I only vaguely recall, but would you be what they'd call a perfect example of that three size principle?” As they said it, they'd throw in some [Smooth Talker D] for good measures.

“Dragon's Ribcage! That sounds really exciting! What kind of treasure are we looking for?!? I don't think happiness and friendship can be found below the sea!” They'd reply to Zeke's information about their mission.

They'd spent their time on the ship doing stuff. Like climbing the mast, falling out of the mast, regenerating, trying to climb the mast again, going below deck to stumble around in the dark, getting tangled up in rope. The usual things. They'd be on deck, looking at the remnants of ships with some excitement. “I wonder if the ship those terrorists took down is here as well!” They called out to mister Zeke.

“Does anyone know why these ships are glowing? I don't think ships normally glow, do they?” They were a tad curious about that one. However, at the sigh of the tendrils, they were excited. “Oh, oh! I've seen those in movies! These are the Kraken things that normally drag someone to the depths of the oceans and... wait... that'd not be good?!?” They suddenly realised their predicament.

They'd head over to the tentacles to try touching them. Perhaps the ghost-Kraken was just lonely and needed its tentacles to be petted? “Good, good Kraken. Now let go of our ship please~” They'd kindly ask it, assuming they could even tough the ghastly tendril stuff.

Luisa failed to spot the group that made off with her coinage but it mattered not for she had other savings stashed away within her grimoire in preparation for such situations. Paying for her drinks the woman made ready to leave when she was approached by the mouthpiece of the group. The Human-like Construct, how disgusting. For such a creature to masquerade as a superior race such as humans, was pathetic and insulting. Constructs were nothing more than tools, made to be replaceable. Still, for some reason, this thing's compliments were oddly tolerable.

Running a hand through her hair Luisa's eyes darted to the construct's own "What would a construct know of hair care? Do you mean to suggest you can grow your own, how odd you are."

Releasing her hair Luisa moved for the door alongside the rest of the crew "As for those three sizes you mentioned, you'd do well to remember I strive for perfection in every aspect of my life. As a human perfection is only natural after all"

Luisa's sharp eyes surveyed the ghostly tendrils ensnaring the ship, her mind racing with a mix of concern and strategic calculation. The haunting glow of the waters beneath held an ominous beauty, but it was a beauty that hid the perilous danger lurking beneath.

Her thoughts, however, veered toward a more practical concern. How could such a formidable creature be left unchecked, especially in waters that seemed well-traveled by those who sought treasures and secrets? The remnants of countless ships in the shimmering depths hinted at a creature with a voracious appetite for adventurers, yet it remained unchallenged.

The military captain responsible for the region, in Luisa's eyes, bore a share of responsibility for allowing this menace to persist. The war may have demanded their attention, but neglecting a creature capable of claiming numerous vessels was, in her opinion, a severe oversight.

"Negligence," she muttered to herself, her voice barely audible over the ambient sounds of the ship and the eerie glow of the waters. "The military captain, overseeing the safety of these waters, has left a monstrous threat unchecked. It's a menace that claims ships with impunity, yet no countermeasure is in place. Captain Aliquem would never make such a mistake nor tolerate it, tsk."

Luisa's eyes narrowed with determination as she assessed the situation. The crew, now entangled in the ghostly tendrils, faced a challenge that demanded immediate attention. The danger they encountered was not just a natural hazard; it was a consequence of negligence that had allowed the unseen entity to thrive.

Amid the unsettling beauty of the shimmering depths, Luisa resolved to take charge. The military captain's failure to address this menace and Captain Zeke's lack of warning would not be her undoing. She turned to the captain, her tone judgemental and firm.

"Did you know this beast prowled these waters? If so, we'll be having a long discussion about such later, understood. Good."

Stepping forward to overlook the rest of the ship from the quarter-deck, Luisa grasped her grimoire firmly. "Rooks use your barriers to block any leaks that may appear as best you can! Bishops, heal anyone who sustains damage but ignore the fae and the sea creature!"

As Luisa issued her commands, her grimoire emanated a vibrant glow, its pages fluttering as if stirred by an unseen wind. The ambient energy in the air crackled with arcane power as the summoning commenced.

With a dramatic sweep of her hand, Luisa conjured forth the living chess pieces. The five rooks materialized in a spectacular display of ethereal radiance. Each rook, a formidable construct of magical energy, took its place with stoic resolve, ready to carry out their assigned duties. Their presence on the ship invoked a sense of both security and awe, as if ancient guardians had descended to protect the crew.

Following the rooks, the five bishops materialized in a cascade of shimmering light. Their magic billowed around them, and their bodies, adorned with mystical symbols, seemed to channel the very essence of healing. Positioned strategically across the ship, the bishops stood ready to emanate an aura of restoration, prepared to mend any minor wounds incurred during their confrontation with the spectral threat.

The entire summoning unfolded like a symphony of arcane prowess, the rooks standing sentinel with their barriers, the bishops poised for mending, all under the command of Luisa. The glow of the grimoire intensified, casting a radiant glow over the deck of the ship, a testament to the Woman's command over the magical forces at her disposal.

Davito Aranda

Davito enjoyed the small party, completely aware that he was getting pickpocketed. He kept most of his money hidden anyway. Because of all the prying eyes and ears, and their search for treasure, he resolved to stay quiet until they reached the ship. As they were leaving, a new woman, pink haired, with the look of the military about her, joined them. This probably won't end well. He thought. He quietly observed how she put down Zahrah, who he was starting to like. He decided to treat the new woman cautiously, for he could tell that she could be a dangerous enemy.

The ship jerked to a halt beneath his feet. Davito looked up instantly. The ship had been rolling on the storm tossed waves since they left port, and a sudden calm could only mean danger. At the sight of the glowing tentacles crawling up the ship, he pulled Zahrah back from her obvious goal of touching them. "We don't know what this creature is. It's best to observe it before running in headlong, lest it turn out to be hostile." He saw the way that Luisa spoke to Zeke, with an air of authority and command. Trying to order around the Captain? I thought a military officer would recognize a hierarchy when she saw one.

Davito was impressed when he saw the instant army that the woman had summoned. However, he wasn't very happy about her racism and refusal to heal the fae. "I understand you're at war, but this is a crew of companions, not the warfront." He said to the officer. "Don't knowingly let people die because of something happening far off." He cursed under his breath, moving to stand between the monster and the elven members of the crew, knowing that the woman wouldn't change her stance on the matter. Military folk were stubborn like that. He knew that he could tank for the elves and still get healed, so he drew his sword, ready to defend his companions.

Ul had braced herself for the open seas, of which she was at the most hoping things would go fine above all else at this point. She had stored her dirtbike on the ship for the trip since she sure as heck wasn't leaving it behind although knew it wasn't going to see much valuable use. The quest was more of a training exercise and learning experience after all, since the discovery of valuables could help her find some special magical treasure or get her to higher class and places of higher intelligence when it came to nobility or magical studies. Despite the construct's cheeriness, Ul held away from tjem for the moment of time being just in case the downtime of conversation was necessary. At least therewas only one of them.

Waiting in silence amidst the trip, things were eventually interrupted by the arrival of a swarm of tentacles very much spectral in appearance which was a pretty interesting find despite where they had found themselves in. Ul's eyes lit up like an excited little child at the sight before coming to a sudden realisation and returning back to a completely blank slate of an expression.
"Oooh~- oh, wait, this is bad. Very bad" Ul murmured as the audible commanding of Luisa took hold of the situation, the elf wondering at what point she chose to rank herself higher than the captain in order to be allowed to criticise and command whomever she wished. At the sound of no healing support, Ul rolled her eyes. The woman was pretty, but perhaps too much of a rear-end.

"Thank you kind ma'am, I'll be sure to remember that one, you are truly a treasure. What would those funny little humans do without you keeping things balanced?" Ul sarcastically responded, unsure about the comparison of the strengths of their healing though supposing she could always just try to keep safe and heal herself or Lyrian if it came to it. Looking to Davito as he tried to defuse the racist hospitality, she gave him a quiet comment.
"She seems nice. Probably doesn't get invited to anything often" Ul answered sarcastically to him, seeing his readiness for combat.
"Don't have a clue what's up with Pinky and the fae-hate over there but hopefully it shouldn't be a problem. Don't get hurt out there friend, depending on... whatever they're doing" Ul patted Davito's shoulder to the best of her short capabilities before looking to the other pink-haired person on the trip, who was trying to befriend the beast in the water. Sighing and shaking her head, she mumbled.

"Oh divine deities, have mercy..." she muttered under her breath, hoping that the rest of the crew would be more than enough ready for trouble if it arised. She didn't have much experience of knowledge of the gods and spirits of this world, but any opportunity to discover one was very much appreciated. Especially if it would hold guidance for the situation. Appraising the problem as well as using her cool stick to gently exert mana just to get a small sense of her own mana, Ul quietly prayed in curiosity if the far oceans that held such strange life would be an opportunity at finding someone or something greater to be a support or mentor where possible. Perhaps more research on deities and spirits was needed.
"Beings of the elements, or those of greater dominions. Bless this trip, and grant me guidance... you know, at your own pace, I get it take your time, no rush, if and whenever you feel like it" she mumbled quietly.

Zeke chuckled as he laid eyes on the beast grappling with his ship, unsheathing his cutlass. "C'mon then lads! You won't let a bit of expired seafood get between you and treasure will you?!" He called with a laugh over the storm around them, his blade igniting with holy energy as he prepared a [Portal: Banish], figuring that if this thing was undead, if he sent it to Heaven for even a moment it would do considerable damage, as well as give his crew a moment of breathing room. He took a deep inhale before grabbing one of the ropes, calling orders out to his crew.

"Those of you who cannot fight, secure the sails! We don't need this beasty tearing them up now! And stay above deck! We don't know if this bugger can get his tendrils through the ship, and I gotta see you to save you!" He ordered, before swinging towards one of the closer tentacles with his Banish empowered blade, swinging it into the tentacle figuring it would banish the kraken for a moment, before swinging back to the wooden deck.

As the ship lurched to a halt, Izzy was sent tumbling from her perch on some crates where she'd chosen to nap. She groaned and pushed her self up, mumbling as she started to hear shouting. Blearily she blinked, looking about, to see what was going on. The pink haired woman was shouting and barking orders to strange looking figures. The captain was barking his own orders out. Secure the sails. The sound of someone praying desperately drifted to her ears. She rubbed her eyes starting to stand to do some work, when she saw the short pink haired one reaching out to touch what looked to be a ghostlike tentacle.

It took a moment for everything to register, but when it did, pulled out the hip flask. Her head tilted back and she downed the last bit of what she had. Gasping a little when she finished, she raised the flask up with a bittersweet smile.

"Was ah swell time mates." She tossed the empty flask, and took off at a full sprint, intent on grabbing hold of Zahrah and yanking them away from the ghostly tendrils.

Shimmering Depths

1706419612981-png.1140908

As the ghostly tendrils ensnared the ship with an unyielding grip, the atmosphere aboard became one of tense anticipation. Despite Zahrah's earnest attempt, the tendrils remained indifferent, their eerie luminescence undimmed by the humanoid plushie golem's words. It was a stark reminder of the abyss that lay between the living and whatever resided in the depths below: one does not simply talk to the dead.

The ship groaned under the assault, its timbers creaking ominously as the tendrils tightened their hold. Splinters flew as the deck buckled in places, the ghostly force threatening to rend the vessel asunder. Amidst the chaos, Luisa's summoned minions, a phalanx of rooks and bishops, sprung into action. The rooks, with their sturdy, barrier-wielding forms, moved swiftly to provide temporary patches for the breaches, their magical barriers shimmering into existence to stem the flow of seawater threatening to fill the ship. The bishops, meanwhile, stood ready, their healing auras providing some morale support in the dim light, ensuring that the crew remained able-bodied.

Ul's appraisal of the tendrils eluded understanding, as if they were a part of a reality beyond the realm of the known. It was a disconcerting revelation, the tendrils existing as an enigma that defied magical scrutiny.

Captain Zeke launched himself at the nearest tendril, his strike aimed with precision, connecting. But the effect was not as intended; the holy energy dissipated upon contact, as if swallowed by a void. The captain's efforts, though valiant, seemed to barely inconvenience the creature. However, he did find the tendrils were cuttable.

Just as despair began to take root among the crew, their efforts proving more futile by the minute, the fog on the horizon erupted in a blaze of light and sound. A fleet of ships, sails billowing and cannons roaring, appeared as if conjured from the tempest itself. The lead vessel, its flag a menacing skull atop crossed sabers, a backdrop of a fiery orb, signaled the arrival of a notorious band of treasure hunters. Luisa, recognizing the flag's design, felt a surge of apprehension; these were not mere allies but rivals with knowledge of her grimoire and a desire to seize it by any means.

The treasure hunters' cannons belched magical explosives, raining destruction upon the spectral tendrils. The air was filled with the thunder of cannonade and the shriek of tearing ether. Under the relentless bombardment, the tendrils recoiled, their grip loosening as they were driven back into the depths from whence they came.

As the last of the tendrils vanished beneath the waves, the treasure hunters' ships closed in on Zeke's battered vessel. The crew, their morale a mix of relief and newfound apprehension, braced themselves for the next confrontation. The ordeal with the ghostly creature had united them in survival, but the imminent threat of the treasure hunters would now surely interfere with their plans. The air was hazy with dispersing clouds that smelled of explosives and ozone mixed with the sea salt air. It did nothing to soothe the nerves of the pirate crew that would not have long to decide what to do in the face of fellow pirates that may or may not treat them kindly after using them as bait to lure out one of the Shimmering Depth's threats. Zeke would know they would likely try to loot the ship and check for any loot aboard. There was a chance they would be taken and sold into slavery and/or have his ship and crew confiscated. Zeke would also know there was a chance he may be able to join up with this fleet if he could make himself out to be more useful in charge of his own intact ship than not. However, he sailed through the shimmering depths in the opposite direction immediately, he would likely evade the bigger ships and be able to escape. Decisions, decisions.

Zahrah was taken aback, rather literally so, as Davito pulled them away from the tentacles. “Oh!” They called out upon being pulled back. “If you want to play rough, now isn't the time, I've got to figure out what the tentacles want!” They stated, a bit confused. “Hostile? If it's hostile, I'll just ask it to stop being so~ It worked thus far!” They claimed, as they had indeed talked down more than a few monsters, somehow, from being hostile, at least temporarily.

To their surprise, Izzy joined in, trying to pull them back as well. “Oh, come on! They are big enough to share!” They called out, figuring that they could all befriend these things equally.

Sadly enough, that didn't work, as they weren't managing to befriend them. If anything, the tentacles were shot up along with part of the ship. “Oh me oh my! That isn't good!” They called out. They'd been debating to dive into the sea and see what those tentacles belonged too, but perhaps that was no longer needed. Besides, they weren't sure if they'd be able to hold their breath for long enough.

Ah, but wait, if the tendrils were gone, then they would just need to dive deep enough to grab the treasure thingy, right? That should probably make folk happy. Considering they were on a ship, there likely was enough rope around, so they'd tie themselves up it around their waist. “I'm gonna go look for the treasure!” They announced, as they'd grab something heavy like Luisa's assets like a cannonball.

“If I'm not back in a bit, could you hoist me up? Don't worry, I'm pretty tough, so I'll probably survive!” They proudly announced, as they'd jump off the ship with a cannonball in order to sink deep enough to see if there was anything fun down there. Like treasure. Or maybe whatever had sent out those tentacles would return and they could befriend it? It sounded like there were definitely some fun options indeed~

While the incident of the strange tentacles had been dealt with, it was only because another problem wished to make itself the trouble of the voyage. This was starting to go very bad, with the situation worsening by the moment as it felt like they were way too underprepared to handle such a conflict. Trying to sort and piece so many ideas at a time, Ul figured that the entire crew and vessel was as good as screwed if someone didn't have a  logical plan. Even though she thought Luisa trying to give orders without the permission of the ship's Captain, it was probably a good idea if someone with a strategy spoke up. Considering her own life and bike rested on this going smoothly and this was not her first rodeo with troubling situations considering it was not her first isekai, she was already prepared to come up with a plan of action.

"Alright, I apologise for giving orders despite what you may believe is my ranking but as the Pride of Nyrael, I demand you follow these instructions to ensure the lives and success of all here. This is not a lost cause," Ul announced as she gestured to the moron who was actively jumping off of the ship.

"I'll go in and get the doofus out of the water, big thing in there's probably liable to come back for revenge and hopefully, it'll be targetting the other ships if 'Friendmaker' doesn't go and get it's attention to us, or keep us trapped in position. I'm probably the lightest here, I'll get her to drop heavy crap and use magic as a flare when to pull us out. If that don't work, watch for when I start tugging the rope for dear life" Ul instructed as she glanced at the approaching ships.

"There's a lot but they ain't fuckin' invincible, any ranged attacks this ship sends, look for and prioritise catalyst targets to blow 'em or set them alight, take out THEIR cannons first. Fix any damages as fast as possible and prevent anything from hitting if you can. If we're lucky, big 'friend' in the water'll make a return and cause enough trouble for the enemy for us to escape or counterattack, I'll keep an eye out for him. Keep an eye out for him too, with all the nonsense goin' on he'll have no clue who it's from if you send something his way. Even get crossfire against these pets going if you can, I'm sure there's not enough loot to go 'round and all of them are just as greedy for it. We'll figure out a better continuation plan after Squidbait is done being fish-food. Captain, make sure this ship is still above water when we're ready to surface. Davito, Izzy, make sure  her personal prejudices don't screw things up. If I die, I'm haunting your asses" Ul announced aloud, this was probably the stupidest thing she was ever gonna do in her time as she elected to also send herself overboard by jumping off in order to follow the rope attached to Zahrah in order to get them to not get everyone screwed.

Izzy scrambled for a moment to keep Zarah from the edge of the ship, but when the tentacles suddenly began to retreat and the blaze of noise announcing the new threat came, her attention went with it. She stepped forward, leaning against the rail to stare at the retreating tentacles, and up at the oncoming ships. She realized a little too late that the pink little menace had grabbed a cannon ball and jumped off the edge. She started to run after the rope that the punk had tied to themselves, when the other cutie decided to play hero and jumped in after them.

"Oi Oi! Are ye' fochin' daft! Jes' pull'em ahp!" She cried as she watched Uls body be swallowed by the depths. She brought a hand to her face and scrubbed it miserably, before sending a glare across the ship. Specifically, to anyone else who was planning on jumping overboard into the depths of the sea. Where a monster had just crept away, and enemy ships were incoming. Then she went to grab hold of the rope that had been tied, grudgingly waiting until she felt the tug to yank it up. Since she'd have to make sure that Ul had hold of Zahrah now, instead of just yanking the little doll back up. "Oi Capt'n Don' take ah fochn' word she said t' yer head. Tha'sah fochn' Fleet! Luisa watched the chaotic scene unfold with a mixture of irritation and disbelief. As Zahrah and now Ul plunged into the water, she couldn't fathom the apparent recklessness of their actions. The idea of diving into the sea, where a mysterious and potentially dangerous creature had just retreated, struck her as absurd and downright foolhardy.

"Idiots," she muttered under her breath, her irritation etched on her face. "Talking to the tentacles? Diving into the unknown? Are they trying to get us all killed?"

The disdain in her eyes was evident as she observed the antics of her fellow crew members. She found Ul's attempt to take command particularly grating. As Ul jumped into the water after Zahrah, Luisa shook her head in disbelief. It was clear that Ul's impulsive decision-making was only adding to the chaos.

"Orders? This isn't a military operation, and you're not in charge," Luisa muttered, her gaze now shifting to the approaching treasure hunter fleet. The situation had escalated from the supernatural threat of the ghostly tendrils to a more tangible danger presented by the rival pirates. Luisa, with her pragmatic mindset, knew that their chances of fending off a fleet of treasurehunters were next to none.

Her distaste for elves, particularly Ul, only intensified her frustration. Luisa was accustomed to a structured and disciplined environment, and the chaotic actions of her current companions grated against her sense of order.

The weight of responsibility settled on Captain Zeke's shoulders, and Luisa glanced at him, silently urging him to make the necessary decisions. The approaching fleet demanded a diplomatic approach or a tactical maneuver, not a reckless confrontation. Luisa knew that talking their way out of this predicament was the only sensible course of action.

"We're outnumbered and outgunned," Luisa muttered to herself, her gaze fixed on the rival ships. "Diplomacy is our best option, either that or a full-speed retreat. I can try and buy us some time for the later if you like."

As the crew members scrambled to deal with the aftermath of the ghostly tendrils and the approaching enemy ships, Luisa couldn't shake the feeling that the situation was spiraling out of control. The chaotic decision-making, the impulsive actions, and the lack of a clear strategy grated against her sensibilities.

"Diving into the sea like a bunch of fools. This is not how you handle a situation," she muttered, her frustration evident. Luisa felt a growing sense of urgency, realizing that the fate of the crew hung in the balance, and that the choices made in the next few moments would determine their survival in the face of both supernatural and human threats.

She approached Captain Zeke with a determined expression, her voice firm. "Captain, we need a plan. We can't afford a direct confrontation."

Zeke looked about the chaos with a calm and thoughtful expression, sheathing his cutlass as he sighed at the new developments. "The plush'll get herself killed if she manages to find the beasty. But..." He said, glancing down at his hand as it hummed with a divine energy. "She's given me an idea. We might be able to get away, and take the treasure for ourselves." He said with a hum, before turning to the crewmates still on the ship with him. "Ms. Sullivan. For your quick thinking in our recent battle, I'm promoting you to First Mate for the duration of our time working together. Only person with more authority than you on this ship is me. As for my plan, you lot will need to trust me. But we're abandoning ship. That beasty was likely guarding the spot with the treasure, figuring it's supernatural origins, explaining why those lads are coming for us so quickly after it left. And I'm not too keen on selling you all as slaves even if it means I stay captain. So we're heading down there ourselves. BUT, stay close to me. I got our way out of here, in a way that beasty and those lads can't keep up with us. If you lose me, you're not gonna be able to go anywhere." He began explaining, looking down off the ship.

"Ms. Sullivan, Ms. Izzy, if you have any questions or otherwise, voice them now, we're short for time." He said, deciding that things would need to be done quickly, deciding that unless convinced otherwise he would be having his crew jump into the water for him to portal them away to Heaven. He would lose the [Angels Sandal], yes, but from that treasure a new era for piracy and himself would be born. "I know things are chaotic as of now, but my plan is the only certainty we have. My portal will guarantee our safe escape."

TLDR: while ul and zahrah are currently at risk of a few grizly fates depending on water currents or choice, Zeke and crew must quickly decide next steps after being given an ultimatum by one of the treasure hunter fleet's captains.
Post Listening:

Shimmering Depths

1707188866190.png

As Zahrah and Ul plunged into the turbulent waters below, the shimmering depths greeted them with a kaleidoscope of disorienting illumination and strong currents. The sea, alive with the glow of unknown bioluminescent creatures, twisted and turned around them, making their free dive not just a daring endeavor but a perilous one. The beauty of the underwater world was matched only by its danger, as the currents threatened to sweep them away from the ship and into the vast, uncharted abyss. (e grade swimming or similar skill to swim where you want and not wherever the currents whim)

Zahrah was drawn to a particularly haunting sight amidst the wreckage strewn across the ocean floor and underwater hills. A ship, its midsection brutally severed by some colossal force, revealed the ghostly scene of its final moments. Inside the captain's quarters, amidst the detritus of a life spent at sea, a shiny orb caught Zahrah's eye, resting in the skeletal grip of the dead captain. The orb pulsed with a soft light, promising mystery or perhaps danger. Ghostly figures, remnants of the crew, lingered in the broken ship, their ethereal gazes fixed upon Zahrah with curiosity or perhaps envy for the living intruder.

Meanwhile, Ul spotted a looming shadow in the murky waters. A massive dire shark, its silhouette barely discernible in the gloom, glided silently towards them. Its size was formidable, easily large enough to swallow either of them whole, turning their adventure into a fatal mistake. The dire shark's approach was slow but deliberate, a predator stalking its prey in the depths where light barely touched.

Above the surface, the situation was no less tense. One of the treasure hunter ships, leading the fleet, advanced towards Zeke's beleaguered vessel. The rest of the fleet held back, cannons at the ready, a silent promise of destruction if their terms were not met. As the lead ship drew close enough, a figure stepped forward, the gallant captain of the treasure hunters, his presence commanding even from a distance.

"Hail, squid lunch, formerly the crew of that heap called a ship!" the captain shouted, his voice carrying over the waves. "I am Captain Varick of the Sunfire's Grasp. You find yourselves in a precarious position, my fleet to one side and treacherous monster ridden depths on the other. Surrender now, and I assure you, your lives will be spared. Your ship, however, and all it contains, and perhaps a certain grimoire, will become the property of the Sunfire's Grasp. Resist, and I fear the depths will claim you long before the sea's creatures do."

His tone, though firm, carried a hint of regret, as if he took no joy in the ultimatum but saw it as a necessary part of his pursuit. "You have moments to decide," Captain Varick continued, his gaze sweeping across Zeke's crew, assessing their resolve. "Choose wisely, for the sea is unforgiving, and today, we are in a hurry."

On Zeke's ship, the crew faced a moment of truth. The opposing captain's terms hung in the air like a guillotine's blade, promising a sliver of mercy in exchange for complete surrender. The party would have this round to decide their fates.

Izzy had been staring flabbergasted at Zeke, not entirely sure she'd heard him right. So not only did they have two crew members who'd decided to jump into the water after the abyssal beast; the captain was fully intent on having the rest of them follow. Using some "Portal". She hesitated, not entirely sure how to say "I can't swim". Obviously, someone who lived on a ship for a year or more, would surely know how to swim. And yet there she was. Having grown up in the clouds as a child, she'd never learned. And honestly, after that first long fall into the dark abyss, the idea of being thrown back into it was beginning to bring up old traumas. Which was worse, dealing with new pirates that she only knew a little bit less than her current crew, or jumping into the cold abyss where a monster creeped. Her dilemma had her lost in thought, staring intently at the rope in her hands. The seconds were ticking away. She wasn't entirely sure if Zahrah needed to breathe, but Ul was definitely an organism that required air. And Ul was the one who didn't have a rope tied to her. As the supposed doctor of the crew, she felt a little responsible for their safety. But there was only so much she could do. And having to watch Zahrah Hurl themselves to the deck multiple times and regenerate themselves had slightly desensitized her to the shock of the little menace.

When Captain Varick called out to the ship, she finally seemed to snap out of it. Her attention hung on his words as he spoke. He gave the ultimatum, and Izzy was left again with her thoughts. She looked down at the rope in her hands, and at the choppy waters below. Glanced up at the fleet of ships waiting for the signal to attack. Then looked to Zeke, who she doubted very much was the kind to surrender. Only a few more seconds passed before she'd made her decision. Her legs brought her to stand in front of Zeke and pushed the rope into his hands. She had to tilt her head back to make eye contact with him but when she did, she gave him an apologetic shrug, and lifted her hands in surrender. She raised her voice and shouted.

"Oi, Half th'crew beat ye' to et. Jumped in' after the beast t' play tickle. Might be draggin et back this way too knowin'tha li'al mennace." She paused, glancing over at Davito and Luisa. "Ye' say ye'll spare our lives ef'n we surrender. But th' Vessel es yers? Where's tha' leave us then? Ah'm willin t' cooperate. Sah'long as ah dunnae have te' get in th' water. "

She should've stuck away from the ocean, and people. People bring naught but difficulty.

Now, given the situation that Ul was in, she would be willing to admit that she may have not thought out her plan as well as she did and was probably going to receive flak for it. A little oops, but at least she attempted to have a plan when it seemed as if the rest of their crew were just going in with their fingers crossed.

Now needing another course of action since it appeared the approach of a dire shark was the thing keeping her between life and death, well..
In reality, Ul supposed it didn't entirely matter. This was not her first reincarnation, and if she died here and now it would not be her last, which in all honesty lessened her idea of the severity tenfold and even made it a plausible option to willingly jump in the jaws of the beast for another roll of the dice when it came to her next life. With a quick inner consensus, she didn't really have much reason to be attached to this world since all she had done so far was not get along with anyone except a potential crazy-person and embarrass herself by jumping off a ship into dangerous waters. Death didn't seem so bad after all...

Hm...

But...

Then again, was there any challenge if there was no stakes or necessary obstacle to overcome? Even when it seemed like her situation was entirely impossible? Ul considered some things, and thought a little more.
Well, Ul's been through a lot of lives of different worlds, what would make this scene matter at all? Well, by most it wouldn't, but...
What if Ul could figure out how to survive  this? A test of pure genius, even with her current and extremely limited capabilities, one who wished to lead and succeed must be ready for anything. Even for, a big ol' shark. No more ridiculous sudden decisions, this plan had to be perfect.

'Come on Ul, one magic shot, one shark, two idiots, one on a rope. Plan, plan, thinkthinkthinkthinkthink-' she yelled at herself in her own mind trying to come up with a fast plan, deducing all the common logic she could recollect from past experience. She might've not known if the same rules and logic applied in this world, but anything was worth a shot.

'Sharks. Sense ripples made in water, eyes, nose and gills as weakpoints, do not block their way, dumb sea puppy fish, what does it matter? Way, way, we are in it's way, can't move away it'll attract it, can't ask to be pulled up in front of it. Can't just shoot it, too risky, come on Ul, think, can you make something else unmistakable for prey go elsewhere?' Ul pondered in panic in mere little moments as she could feel the flow of current in the water. How to make something move found, now she needed a something. Holding onto the rope Zahrah used to tie themselves to the ship, Ul looked over them and then herself for any ideas before getting another rather ridiculous idea that literally anyone would call her insane for.

'Robes, robes! Clothes off your back, good enough' Ul came to the decision that the best course of action in order to avoid them being eaten was for her to remove her clothes so that she could wave them around in the current held out to their side in hopes it was a distraction over them. She could let go of her duds if it gave them better chances, at least when the shark drew closer.

Carefully derobing yet trying to not make much movement, Ul angrily pointed at the cannonball Zahrah was holding and held her hand in a 'stop' motion. She'd want to get Zahrah to drop it the moment she wanted them to be pulled up, any other treasure was suicide at this point. Ul wasn't gonna hold her breath forever, so she was going along with her own plan anyway. If Ul could get Zahrah out of the water to speak to them, perhaps the crazy could be convinced to make friends with the attackers rather than dangerous sea life. If anything, she had a single shot of her magic as a last-ditch effort to aim for what she believed was a weakspot on the shark.

 Actions
1. Derobe in order to use her clothes as a distraction to wave around in the water.
2. Be ready to start tugging at the rope to be pulled up.
3. Hold Flickerpop ready if all else truly fails, in order to fire at the shark if it does attack them, or to shoot directly upwards as a flare if the shark goes elsewhere and they haven't been pulled up yet.

Zahrah was rather surprised by how extraordinarily pretty things were underwater. So many cool and funny glowy bits. It was a bit of a shame they felt like they'd get washed away if they weren't careful though, as that would make it more difficult to get where they wanted to go. They'd stretch out their arms [Elasticity E] in an attempt to reach for whatever solid-ish looking stuff they could use to pull themselves closer to the ship with.

It was a bit of a shame that they couldn't talk here, they realised, as otherwise they could've had a chat with these fun looking glowy fellows. For now, the best they could do was give them a friendly and disarming smile (and should they be able to hold on to something with one hand) a wave.

That's when they realised these folk looked relatively... dead? How peculiar. Could dead people experience happiness? Their algorithms told them 'no', so they realised they might as well attempt to use [Elasticity E] again to pick up the shiny orb thing they spotted.

Whether or not they succeeded, they'd eventually spot the shark. That wasn't ideal. They recalled the wolfies in the Thorn Briar forest that kept ruining their precious cotton, which had been awful. If they'd play with this shark, their cotton would be soaked and ruined a like! They figured they'd let go of the canon ball and tugged the rope. Surely all their friends were still checking for when they'd be ready to be pulled up, like good and loyal friends did, right? Right?

Assuming someone would bother to pull up their (lightweight) cotton body, they'd hold-on to the orb (if they managed to obtain it) with one hand and tried to reach for Ul with the other. They did wonder, for a moment, why Ul was stripping. They recalled the lessons about exhibitionism they'd been taught by Mao before, the parts at making people enjoy watching at certain areas of exposed skin, but they doubted this was the right moment for it. After all, a shark wouldn't be into that sort-off stuff? Or would it? Perhaps it was aimed at the undead folk instead? Zahrah wasn't sure.

Either way, with the orb possibly obtained, possibly not obtained, the cannonball dropped and Ul possibly grabbed, it was time to wait for them to be hoisted out of the water.

~Luisa O'Sullivan~

1707398999086.png
The chaos surrounding the ship grated on Luisa's nerves. She saw Izzy's surrender as an act of weakness, a betrayal of the pirate spirit she believed in. In her mind, surrendering to these treasure hunters was akin to accepting defeat without a fight, a notion she found utterly repulsive.

As Captain Zeke revealed his plan to abandon ship, Luisa's eyes narrowed. The idea of jumping into the unknown, even with the promise of a magical portal, struck her as mad. However, she understood the logic behind it. The treasure hunters and the mysterious creature below presented imminent threats, and staying on the ship seemed like a sure way to end up in chains or at the mercy of the abyss.

"This better be worth it," she muttered under her breath, glancing at the water below. Luisa, despite her reluctance, prepared to jump, securing her grimoire and belongings. As she moved toward the edge, her eyes returned to the sight of the treasure hunter fleet, led by Captain Varick's ship, the Sunfire's Grasp. A dangerous glint flickered in Luisa's eyes.

A daring plan formed in her mind, a last stand that could buy them time. Rather than meekly escaping, Luisa decided to go out with a bang. She approached the ship's wheel, ignoring the stares of her fellow crewmates who were readying to jump. With a determined grip, she steered the ship directly toward the flagship of the treasure hunters, a self-destructive gambit aimed at creating chaos and confusion.

The ship creaked and groaned as it altered course, hurtling toward the enemy vessel. Luisa's hands moved with purpose, and the wind carried the echoes of her laughter, a reckless defiance in the face of overwhelming odds. The ship became a projectile, a weapon in Luisa's hands as she aimed for the heart of the approaching threat. She spared a glance for Izzy, recognizing the surrender as a choice but not one she had to agree with.

In her eyes, Izzy was a pirate, and pirates didn't surrender; they fought until the bitter end. Her mind momentarily cast back to a memory of her father's training wherein he punished her for surrendering in a sparring match as a child stating firmly - 'O'Sullivan's never surrender, The East never surrenders.'. Directing her gaze to Captain Varick, Luisa donned a sickening grin from behind the wheel. "Captain Varick! I will endeavor to remember your name. You'd do well to remember this in turn - Ruthlessness is a mercy upon oneself! Sleep with one eye open. You will rue the day you let me slip from your grasp. Farewell and make sure not to be late, you're in a hurry no?". Jamming the wheel in place Luisa darted back to the main deck.

Without hesitation, she reached out, grabbing Izzy by the arm, and pulled her toward the edge of the ship. "You might be willing to cooperate with those bastards, but I'm not one to surrender so easily, nor should a 'want-to-be pirate' like yourself." Luisa cackled, her eyes ablaze with determination and her face adorned with a battle-hungry grin. With a forceful shove, she sent Izzy overboard, following her into the turbulent waters. The portal, Zeke's promise of escape, would await them beneath the surface.

As Luisa plunged into the churning waters, she felt the icy embrace of the sea surround her. The ring on her finger, a forgotten relic with its latent magic, responded to the dire circumstances. The once-dormant enchantments embedded within the ring stirred to life, their purpose unveiling itself in the depths of the shimmering sea.

A soft glow emanated from the ring as it activated, casting an otherworldly light in the dark, mysterious underwater realm. Luisa, initially startled by the sudden illumination, soon realized that something extraordinary was happening. The glow enveloped her like a protective aura, and she felt a subtle but profound change within herself.

A moment of revelation washed over her as the magic within the ring worked its wonders. The need for breath became a distant memory, a sensation that was no longer vital to her survival in the depths. Luisa's lungs, once bound by the limitations of terrestrial existence, now embraced the magic that granted her freedom in the water.

She took a cautious breath, half-expecting the sting of saltwater to fill her lungs, but instead, she found herself inhaling without constraint. The ring had bestowed upon her the ability to exist in this aquatic realm without the burdens of the surface world. The very essence of the sea seemed to flow through her, an empowering connection to the mysterious depths.

Luisa marveled at the newfound freedom, her eyes wide with awe as she surveyed the underwater world. The once-intimidating currents were now a playground. The pressure of the deep sea became an afterthought, and she moved through the water with the agile grace of a professional swimmer.

Her initial surprise transformed into a grin, a mix of exhilaration and disbelief at the fantastical turn of events. Luisa, who moments ago had been steering her ship into a collision course, now found herself untethered by the constraints of the ocean. The magical ring had not only saved her from the impending danger but had bestowed upon her a gift she never knew she needed. The book had of course mentioned this blessing but it had downplayed just how liberating such a blessing could feel in actual practice.

Captain Zeke "Mors" Valdain

Those buggers were faster than he thought they'd be, that was for sure. And before he could draw his pistol on the traitor, his newly promoted first mate reprimanded her for him. Already quite the good decision he made. However, Luisa then did something that threw a wrench in Zeke's underhanded plans, as she made his once covert attempt to undermine the threat a very OVERT attempt to destroy both ships in the process. With a passing glance at the ship that had done him so much good, he let the Angels Sandel stay on course as he grabbed the rope that Izzy had passed down, running to the side of the ship with it draped over the side.

"ALRIGHT LADS! TAKE A SWIM!" He shouted, leaping beneath the waves towards his now underwater crew mates, as his hand was once again coated in the Aura of the Divine magic, already starting to get ready to use his portal. He climbed down the rope, keeping close to his crewmates as he saw the rest of the crew descend into the water, raising his hand even as greed filled his eyes for the orb that his plushy friend found, before cutting a hole in space itself to rip a hole to Heaven for his crew to get pulled into.

The beauty of the water was nothing new to him, and in fact he would rather have gotten his crew out of there as soon as possible, since the longer they were there was the longer those skeletal figures might attack them. And what better way to get out of there than to get to a place in the afterlife.

Davito watched as both the happiness studier and the elf threw themselves overboard. He had moved in the direction of the rope, aiming to pull them up, when the Captain of the approaching fleet issued his ultimatum. The next few moments passed quickly. The drunkard surrendered, then got thrown overboard by their new first mate, who, after throwing the ships on a collision course, followed the woman over the side. The Captain processed things, then led his crew over the side as well, leaving Davito alone on the deck of a ship that was hurtling rapidly into a deathtrap.

He took a deep breath, then yelled back at the treasure hunter. "As the now acting Captain of the... whatever this ship is called, I would like to tell you that there is absolutely nothing of value aboard, and the entire crew has chosen death by drowning over looking at you for any longer." Davito severed the rope, then sheathed his sword. "However unwise it seems, I may soon be joining them. And another thing, I've been stalling. Our ships are on a collision course, so unless you want to end up dead, you and your crew should surrender to me, the only person able to stop it." Davito was bluffing. The ships were too close to stop in time. He moved to the stern of the vessel and yelled to the Captain once more. "If you know anything at all, run. If you make it out alive, I'll remember you. But I sincerely hope that you don't." With a few deep breaths and a gathering of courage, Davito leaped over the back of the ship and into the sea.

As he sank into the water, he instantly regretted it. The shock of the cold, mixed with the salt in his eyes and the weight of his armor was making things difficult. A little ways back, he saw the other members of the crew swimming amidst the wrecks. He saw the Captain following the rope to the ocean floor, followed by his men. Davito swam as best as he could towards the others, cursing the whole way down.

Shimmering Depths

1707188866190-png.1142603

In the murky, tumultuous waters of the shimmering depths, chaos reigned as the crew of Zeke's ship faced imminent threats from all sides. Amidst this pandemonium, Zahrah, with their unique elasticity, managed to stretch out and snatch the shiny orb from the skeletal hand of the dead captain, just as the ghostly figures of pirates lunged for Zahrah's outstretched hand. The orb, pulsing with an enigmatic glow, seemed to hold secrets of the deep, a treasure beyond the mundane that pulsed in time with the aura around the ghosts they gave chase through the water.

No sooner had Zahrah secured the orb than the dire circumstances forced an abrupt congregation of the crew in the water. Ul, battling against the strong currents and her own limitations as a swimmer was unable to get her spell off. Izzy, Davito, and Luisa ended up in the water abruptly after Luisa wrecked the ship on another ship wreck, unable to steer the ship properly in the rough waters littered with obstacles hidden beneath the waves or jutting above it like jagged teeth. At that critical moment, Captain Zeke's divine portal, a rip in the fabric of reality itself, opened beneath them. With no time to spare and the threats of drowning, ghostly capture, or becoming prey to the dire shark looming, the crew was whisked away through the portal to Heaven?!

Weeks passed before the crew found themselves back at the island port where their journey began, but this time under vastly different circumstances. They were amidst a lavish ball, a gathering that showcased the wealth and decadence of the criminal underworld's elite. The hall, opulent and grand, buzzed with the anticipation of the night's main event: the auction.

The ballroom was a spectacle of luxury, with crystal chandeliers casting a soft glow over the attendees, who were adorned in their finest attire. The air was filled with the sound of a live orchestra, their music weaving through conversations laced with intrigue and ambition. Servers moved like shadows, offering trays of exquisite hors d'oeuvres and fine wines to the distinguished guests, each a key player in the shadowy world of illicit dealings and unspoken agreements.

As the climax of the evening approached with the auction, the crew found themselves at a pivotal juncture, presented with a golden opportunity to capitalize on the orb. The atmosphere was charged with anticipation, and in the midst of this opulence, the crew contemplated their strategy to secure the best possible offer for the orb.

Mingling with the guests, they sought to gauge interest, subtly weaving through conversations to identify potential allies who might, intentionally or not, drive up the bidding for their prized find. Yet, in a room filled with the sharpest minds of the criminal underworld, mere interest might not suffice. Perhaps, they needed to give the orb some mystery and intrigue, hinting at its enigmatic origins and rumored powers without revealing too much. The allure of the unknown, they knew, could spark a desire that rational thought could not quell.

But whispers and rumors alone wouldn't anchor their claims. The crew understood the importance of substantiating the orb's worth through credible appraisal or by demonstrating some visible aspect of its power. Such evidence would lend weight to their insinuations, transforming whispered rumors into tangible curiosity.

However, perhaps it would be better if not all cards were shown openly. Selective disclosure to key parties, whispered in shadowed corners or behind the veil of a dance, may create a sense of exclusivity around the orb. But that strategy hinged on the delicate balance between revelation and concealment, ensuring that the orb's allure remained undimmed by familiarity.

Above all, the crew was acutely aware of the necessity for stringent security measures. The orb, now the centerpiece of their scheme, required protection not just from the covetous glances of the underworld's elite, but also from the more tangible threat of theft or sabotage. Demonstrating their commitment to its safeguarding could perhaps underscore the orb's value further, hinting at the lengths they were willing to go to preserve such a rare artifact.

The crew would need to move with purpose, their actions being very important for how their item would sell. Each step, each word, and each glance would need to be calculated to enhance their offering by building anticipation.

Recovered from the whole ordeal that was being underwater, Ul never entirely forgave or got over once she truly understood what had happened. Having come to the conclusion over the past weeks that the captain of the now abandoned vessel Zeke and the one for some reason it appeared that he trusted in most, Luisa, were clearly insane and honestly pretty stupid psychopaths. Supposing that those with higher power in this world must have just been crazily deluded, and that pirates like Zeke who deemed themselves fit for leadership when they were so willing to give up and didn't even have any plan whatsoever was just information to take aware of that none should truly be trusted.

Fidgeting with a singular coin in hand, Ul was rather uninterested by this point in mingling with nobles and supposed she would get another time where she wasn't locally supposed to be cooperating with people who might as well be criminals to her at this point. If crashing a ship with probably one of the most innocent people you could find tied to it wasn't some criminally evil act then what was at that point? That and she could only assume Izzy wasn't very pleased about those in her company either.

In fact, what did anyone else do to help? If anything, Zahrah did basically the majority of the entire quest on their own even after being the one to cause the biggest trouble of all by giving them the attention of rivalling treasure hunters. These people truly were just pirates exploiting others for their own greed and gain. For all it was worth, it looked like by the end of this that likely Zeke and perhaps Luisa were going to be the only ones benefitting in the end which was ridiculous.

Pondering silently to herself before glancing at the coin between her fingers, Ul conspired a little plot within her mind in thinking that there should be a way to make things fair and square for all. Even if they were going to 'all get paid' a cut as a reward, Ul didn't think that simply payment of money was enough at this point. After all, smiling an innocent little smirk, shouldn't Zahrah be the one to get the biggest reward of all since they found and obtained the orb themselves? Ul was pretty sure on something that would make both her and the pink-haire delight happy, and probably Izzy too.

"Hey, Zahrah, c'mere, I wanna tell you something super secret because I think you're a really nice friend" Ul hummed nonchalantly as she beckoned for Zahrah to come over and chat in quiet private, glancing at Izzy if she wanted to come listen in too. If Zahrah would come and join to listen, Ul would wrap an arm around their shoulder to pull them close and whisper softly.
"I think you did a really good job getting that orb that it's a shame nobody else appreciates what you've done, and I think that the others on this ship secretly not liking you and trying to let you die is not a very nice thing. Remember those sad little skeletons underwater? They didn't get to see the world or have any friends to be happy with because bad happiness-haters like Luisa and Zeke are the kinds of people who live for that kind of thing. As your friend who cares for you very much as you have made me very happy, I need to tell you that orb is yours at most, and they're trying to take it for their own gain which will make everyone else unhappy. I know just what to do, and I think we should make sure that some random lucky person gets this beautiful gift for free. Imagine how happy everyone would be if you, Zahrah, told them all about a cool free thing? Everyone would love to be your friend and hang out with you, you'd learn so much about happiness with all those new friends, and those poor poor skeletons... " Ul mumbled as she shook her head.

"They were left there because nobody showed them happiness or remembrance. Let this last piece of them explore the world and make so many people happy by helping send it on its way. If some other random person were to take it and own it, imagine what kind of adventures the last remembrance of those little guys will get to go on?
" Ul offered in temptation, since at this point it was a much more interesting prospect than supporting those who didn't seem like they deserved it. Smiling warmly at Zahrah, she added one more thing.

"I'll even tell you about all the happiness and alternative meanings you want, friend! I'll be your bestie forever and we can go on all sorts of adventures to meet new people. You're really good at what you do, even I'd be interested in learning from and with you a little. What d'you say?" she asked, since if anyone could make the mission fumble at this point by attracting the attention of everyone, it'd be them.

They had been rather proud at succeeding to grab the orb, even if they didn't know what it did, what it was or... anything really. Yet they had it! Sadly enough, their trip to heaven didn't get them to meet the infamous Fred, but perhaps there would be another time and chance one day. They'd handed over the orb to Zeke, who's happiness seemed to drastically increase from having it handed to him. To that extend, the praise they received in turn was surprisingly nice as well~

“Whoa! This place is so cool~” They called out upon entering the ballroom. “This is like the treasure room of luxurious happiness!” They nodded to themselves at their careful observation.

They sparked up at Ul's suggestion. “Oh my~ That sounds great! Is it the key to happiness?” They called out in delight upon heading over to Ul. “Oh my, are we hugging? That's great~ My mother made me really soft~” They said, as they'd wrap an arm around Ul in turn.

To their surprise, Ul was praising them as well. “Oh, mister Zeke gave me plenty of praise and I get to see his new ship, he said~ Perhaps I can one day even fly on his dragon~” They stated with some anticipation. “What? How could they not like me? That's impossible.” They outright refuted to believe, or even consider, such an option. “You shouldn't say such mean things, that is bad for happiness!” They reprimanded Ul.

“Were the skeletons sad? I couldn't see, because they had no facial features. They did look really pretty and glowy though~ I think one of them wanted to give me a handshake, before mister Zeke brought us all to heaven!” They replied next.

The next part got them a bit upset. “Mister Zeke's a nice friend and miss Luisa is just focussing on perfecting the three-size principle. I'm sure they both love happiness as well!” They scoffed at the thought of those two disliking happiness. “Getting the orb for free?”

They debated that for a while. Free stuff could gain happiness... “This area suggest people here have a lot of money. People with a lot of money tend to devalue things that are free, but overvalue things that are expensive. In other words, it should be sold for as high a price as possible, so that the person buying it can be happy with it!” They concluded their flawless reasoning.

“Although thank you, miss Ul, you've given me a great idea! I'll tell everyone about how special that orb is, so that everyone can try buying it. Then even the process of obtaining it will becoming a happiness generating factor~” They were rather proud of coming up with such an insanely clever plan.

“Oh, you're right! To honour the underwater people's wishes, I should make sure it'll be sold at a really, really, really high price! Otherwise it'd be like we gave their fancy orb away for free and didn't value it.” Another reason to really make it clear to everyone how special this orb was.

“Oh, oh! I have many words that were on my databases that I can't remember! That'd be amazing!” They stated at Ul's proposal. “Alright, I'm going to tell mister Zeke how we should make sure that everyone knows how special the orb is!” They'd reached their own conclusions as they'd rush over to Zeke.

“Mister Zeke! I talked with Ul, we think we should make it really, really clear to everyone that the orb we found is the most amazing thing ever!” They'd call out to him. “Oh, right, I also want to thank you again for taking us all to heaven! That was such a cool climax~ Although, I don't think I'd been been that wet!” The way their adventure had ended had indeed been spectacular, although they'd been wringing salty water out of their cotton for a long time after.

They'd realise they were distracting themselves again. “Anyhow! Considering we found the orb with all these skeleton things still guarding it, that must mean it was worth enough to them to guard it even after their deaths, right? So clearly that means it's really something! Also, those other treasure hunter folk were like, really well prepared and the likes, right? So if even big and important folk like them tried getting it, it must mean it's really worth a lot, right? Also also, we went through a lot of effort to get it, so that means it's worth a lot more right? I think we should see if anyone here is even able to afford it to begin with! Perhaps we should keep it, because it'd be too expensive for anyone here~ Unless they pay a whole lot! ” They'd made their [Smoother Talker B] backed-up case to Zeke and to anyone listening in on them, which wouldn't be a difficult feat as they weren't exactly the quiet type.

Izzy

1000002065.jpg
Izzy had kept quiet throughout the weeks that the crew had traveled together. She'd avoided eye contact with anyone as much as possible. And if they decided to take that as shame then so be it. The only thing she wanted at this point, was some sort of pay. And then she would leave. Peacefully. Without punching the green-eyed wench upside the jaw. And if they didn't pay her, well then. These were the thoughts that silently cycled through her mind, as she held her tongue and averted her gaze. For the most part she'd followed Zahrah around, trying to carefully persuade them into less chaotic predicaments. There at the gala, with everyone dressed to impress, she'd taken advantage of the free drinks and indulged herself. Leaning against a wall not far from where Ul had perched, she sipped a glass of mulled wine, glaring at no one in particular. The dress she was wearing wasn't one of beauty or grace. It was simple, with a few ruffles and folds, to give an elegant flow to the gown. Her hair was loose and flowing over her shoulders, though it looked as though it might have actually been brushed. She watched as Ul waved Zahrah over, making the eye contact with her when she glanced over. Her body lifted itself from the wall and she moved towards the two, sipping her wine. As the little elf did her best to explain her idea, Izzy watched with a small knowing as Zahrah didn't quite catch on. She sipped on her wine again, watching the bundle of cotton joy run off to tell Zeke the grand plan. She stepped closer to Ul and reached out to tuck a stray strand of raven hair behind an elven ear.

"Ah'kin understand wantin' t' get some sort've pay back. But ef' that thing es gone fer free, et means we don' get a cut either. And Ah dunnae kin about ye' but ah'll be wantin' some sort'v payment. a'fore I leave. " She gave a wink, her lips curling in a halfhearted smile. Probably the most she'd shown in the few weeks it'd taken to get there. Her wine glass was brought back to her lips as she turned to follow pink menace. Tilted back and downed as she listened to them start to go on about their misadventure. She put the glass down on a nearby table and started to speak just a little over the top of Zahrah. Playing on the silly drunk act. She stepped up to Zahrah, sparing a single glance towards Zeke, with a small twist of her lips. A smile that didn't quite meet her eyes. Her hand outstretched circled around their wrist.

"Zaaahrah! Come dance with me, please?" She continued to insist with mildly interrupting and slightly inebriated noises of insistence. More or less adding more noise to distort the conversation they'd deemed to have with Zeke, from other listening ears. She leaned in conspiratorially, cupping a hand to her mouth and whispering just loud enough that Zeke might have heard. "You can help me scout a really rich buyer while we're dancing! Then we can all be happy right?" The woman didn't give much more of a choice as she started to playfully but insistingly tug on the plush's wrist. "Come on, dance with me!"

Luisa sat at the lavishly decorated table, her fingers idly tracing the rim of the wine glass. The ambiance of the opulent ballroom enveloped her, but her mind lingered on the chaotic events that led them to this clandestine gathering. Beside her sat Captain Zeke, the weight of recent events etched across his features.

She took a sip of the rich wine, its taste a fleeting distraction from the challenges that loomed ahead. With a deep breath, she turned her gaze toward Zeke, her expression softened with an unusual empathy. "Zeke," she began, her voice low and sincere, "I owe you an apology. The ship... I didn't steer it right, and we ended up in a mess. I take responsibility for that."

Her eyes held a genuine regret, a sentiment rarely seen from Luisa. She recognized the significance of Zeke's ship, not just as a vessel but as a part of his identity, and she understood the weight of its loss. Luisa wasn't one to dwell on sentimentality, but in this moment, acknowledging the impact of their recent misfortune seemed appropriate.

"We faced a dire situation, and I made a call that didn't lead us to victory," she continued, her words measured. "But we're still here, and we've got this orb. It's a chance for a new beginning, a different kind of treasure. We just need to play our cards right tonight."

Luisa's eyes flitted across the room, observing the elite attendees who reveled in their world of shadowy dealings. Despite the apology, her mind remained sharp, calculating the next moves to ensure the orb's value was maximized. Luisa knew the importance of staying ahead in this intricate dance of power and wealth.

"Whatever happens, we need to make the most of this opportunity," she added, her tone resolute. "The orb could be our ticket to something greater. Just stay focused, Captain. You'll navigate these treacherous waters, and who knows, maybe this night will turn out to be a victory after all."

Extending a hand toward the man, Luisa touched her Grimoire with the other "Allow me to store the orb within my Grimoire for safekeeping. I'll see it doesn't fall into the wrong hands until after the bidding and subsequent transfer has concluded. You have my word as both a soldier of this empire and a Noble."

Were Zeke to entrust the orb to Luisa she'd use her Grimoire to store the Orb within its Pocket Dimension.

Captain Zeke "Mors" Valdain

Zeke looked out over the lavish party, his draconic companion Stella atop his finely dressed shoulder as he looked out over the seedy criminals covering themselves with the finest of clothes, thinking it ironic that they were masquerading as the high society they so scorned. The loss of the Angels Sandal was something regrettable, but it was something necessary. A new era was born from it and from the orb now in his possession. And if he could squeeze enough out of it, maybe more. Of course, his crews cut was important as well. However, that was when his attention was drawn by his crews activity around him, chuckling a bit at Zahrah's approach.

"Well of course we want to make sure our treasure is known for how absurdly valuable it is. It's only fair to the good folk who died so we could get it." He said, thinking to the few of the crew that perished as well as the corpses he saw all about underwater. He had to at least play somewhat along with Zahrah's happiness goal. He was certainly happy at least. And then of course came Izzy to wisk the pink haired creature away, leaving Zeke back alone with Luisa. He listened to her apology, a chuckle escaping his lips as he smiled some.

"Ah, well as unfortunate it was to lose The Angel's Sandel, it's likely the best outcome. I'd rather her be at the bottom then in the hands of those treasure vultures. Besides, with the money we get from this, I'll be making a ship unlike anything this world has seen yet. You're right that this could lead to something greater, and it will. A ship that can cross the ocean of the sky above us, and one day, the stars themselves." He said with a grin, thinking of the beast of a ship he could purchase with it. Then Luisa made her offer to protect him, a hum slowly escaping his lips as he sighed a moment.

"Well, to be perfectly honest with you Ms. Sullivan, I'd normally tell anyone who asked that to pry it from my cold dead fingers. But, seeing as you let me see that other side of you, I'll say this instead. If we're to have any lasting duration in this crew together, I suppose a display of trust is to be had, especially in a profession so lacking in it as ours. And so I'll let you safeguard it for the time being. Consider this my display that I trust you."

Zeke however couldn't help but notice the loner across the dance hall from him, gently picking up Stella from under her arms and whispering to her. "Say, it looks like the Stag rider could use some cheering up. Go show her that new dance you've been telling me about lass. I'm sure Ms. Dyril would be happy to see it." He gently told the baby dragon, figuring that there might be some kind of lingering negativity in the woman. Though, Zeke could never assume it was directed at himself, after all, this whole job was possible because of him, and in the end he saved everyone's lives himself.
