Fantasy Looking For Group

Pontiferous

Won't Shut Up
Last week I proposed that we should play out an epic D&D-like adventure set in a fantasy world where we would each play as an adventurer set on a dangerous quest. Time passed, and I got extremely busy, but I still want to do this and as such will outline what I have so far written about the roleplay. Please keep an eye on this thread, for it will be updated regularly with more information, more ways to get involved, and even a character sheet once I have hashed out everything to my satisfaction. All that I ask is that you be polite, give your opinion while respecting others' and that you have fun imagining what could be. Without further ado, let us start!

The Prelude

Our story starts with a group of adventurers being summoned by their leader, deep into the headquarters of the Lum Kingdom’s Adventurer’s Guild. The Guildmaster is waiting for them, face lined with worry. A quest that was attempted five years ago has grown in severity, and as the party who failed to prevent the birth of the new calamity, the adventurers are ordered to go on a dangerous quest in order to fix what went wrong nearly half a decade ago.

The would be heroes were once part of a standard adventuring party that had been given the quest to purge a local monster’s lair of its inhabitants. The quest itself seemed simple enough, and the adventurers were confident in their imminent success. After all, it was but a medium sized cave, and the monster within were barely strong enough to attack nearby farmers’ stocks. As such, they all prepared for a two days trip and departed from the capital towards their destination.

Once there, nothing out of the ordinary caught their eyes, and the party soon was hard at work decimating the minor monsters found therein. All was well until a strange sight was finally noticed in the chaos of battle; a small, amorphous monster had sneaked behind the party, eating monsters’ corpses and gnawed on discarded vials and poultices. More amused than wary, the party dismissed the monster as a weakling, and convened to take care of it when the more aggressive monsters were disposed of and properly purified.

That was a grave error, for no sooner were their sight drawn away from the creature did it start to eat and grow in earnest; so much and so fast that by the time the cave was nearly cleared the creature had took form into a fearsome and extremely rare monster - a Glutton. Now strong enough to pose a serious threat, the Glutton forced the adventurers to flee after a long struggle and was left alone in the cave. As quickly as they could, the party warned their guild of the danger they encountered, but by the time the clean up forces arrived, the Glutton was already gone - along with all the corpses and equipment left in the former monster’s lair.

Severely admonished by their leader, the adventurers parted on sour terms and never spoke or thought of each other again, save for some bitter grumbling around a cup of ale. That state of affair was not meant to last, however, for barely five years later all were summoned back before the Guildmaster.

The Glutton they let loose was a dangerous monster feeding off corpses, discarded equipment and spent magical energy in order to get stronger. As luck would have it, their negligence and time spent unmolested created a threat big enough to endanger the Kingdom of Lum.

The monster now haunted the countryside, and with the army and knights busy protecting the settlements and the capital itself, it was up to the Adventurer’s Guild to take care of the Glutton. As they were held responsible, the former party was tasked with a dangerous quest; they were to find the monster’s lair, infiltrate it and plant various corpses of cattle and wildlife laced with the only poison though to fell the beast into the Glutton’s home.

Should they fail, this could mean the end of the Lum Kingdom.

@Pontiferous I have not gone this far to merely be pester-some. I'm still in! However I still have tons of questions to just make things clear and all that. First of all, I like the idea. Second of all, is the outline presented covering the whole roleplay or like an arc/chapter of it?

I`m thinking of making this as an episodic sort of rp, with quests happening so that we get quickly* completed stories yet still have room for a never-ending string of scenarios. Does that answer your first question?

*By quickly I still mean a few months, but you get my point?

@Pontiferous So, from what I take, this would be like the first chapter of the roleplay? That would be very cool. I'm not sure how long people will hang in there for a long-term roleplay like this, but i a dying college student I'm still interested (with my primary interest in being able to play some kind of spellcaster, heh). Another question: within the main story, would there be side-quests? Not ones that would be too derailing from the main story, but little things that can be done, whether they are directly tied with characters or are merely parody quests of "help me find my pan".

I probably will stop asking questions just so I get the chance to know whether or not I'll have the opportunity to play something like a Wizard or Druid.

The idea is that people will be free to drop at the end of every quest, so hopefully we get a dynamic and involved group that don`t feel forced to play.

Side quests would be fun! They'll most likely be the thing anyone can ask the group about doing whenever they have an idea... within reasons of course, but this could be interesting.

I need at least one warrior-type, one spellcaster-type, one rogue-type and one healer-type, so there's a chance!

I'd like to officially state that this thread is now open to questions and reservations (for roles, spots or both!)

I hands down would love to take an arcane-caster role, whether it be by wizard or sorcerer or summoner, etc! That is, if I can do that.

Nice. Any concept for a character profile sheet/skeleton? Or should we wait until more people jump in before working on profiles?

Hello everyone! I decided on a role, which will leave @Kabboom with the Warrior role, if that's still cool with them.

This weekend, I'll be creating a recruiting thread for this rp and will be working on the promised character sheet.

May we modify the layout of the CS or no? Such as keep all the information but change up the text/font style or add bolds 'n italics? Or keep it as is?

edit: for clarification, not moving items around. keep them where they are, just change format of text, not structure.

Absolutely, pretty it up as much (or as little!) as you want!
