"O Power of Creation shrouded in mystery. Heed my call and grant me your blessing. Conjure: Ceramic Pot!"

...

...

Nothing happened. After preparing herself for the upcoming class, Ruth had been spending her free time sitting on the floor with a hand drawn pentagram in front of her while yelling random chants in an attempt to trigger the room's magic. It's kinda creepy how the room managed to rearrange itself to suit her, but instead of contemplating what kind of informations the room had been absorbing from inside her head she wanted to make the most out of it. It's kinda like internet, once you use it your data would be out there stored by people who you would never ever met. Ruth cleared her throat before retrying with another chant.

"Oh The Darkest hiding in plain sight. Show me a fracture of your true might. Conjure a ceramic pot that is good and light!"

...

...

"Damn, rhyming doesn't work. Satan, give me a pot please."

...

...

Letting out a sigh. Ruth wiped the pentagram with a rag and picked up the potato that had been watching next to her.

"I guess I can't make you a bed now. Maybe later." That morning Ruth screamed when she woke up and found that her potato fell from the bed face first onto the floor below and got its face visibly dented. Fortunately it didn't seems to be in pain. Since it didn't move much it must be pushed to the edge when she spins and flips on the bed, she's aware of her sleeping habits. She felts guilty so she wanted to put the potato inside something a pot so it wouldn't fell anymore. Normally she would check the online market for something like this but the witch school had no internet. Also she felts like if she ask a teacher about it professor Morray would suddenly appear behind her and whispered to her to try making it herself, with magic.

Then something happened, the space on her desk started twisting as if someone decided to pinch reality. Said distortion then vomitted a horribly-made clay pot onto the desk. It was very amateurishly made, there's jagged corner everywhere and there's a big slope the shape of a children's hand that cover half of the pot's surface. Ruth immediately realized that the pot was something she made way back during the elementary school art class. Crappy, super crappy, but she's just glad she managed to summon this. Potato also seemed to be happy when it was put inside the so she counted it as a success.

------------------

Ruth picked the rearmost corner seat, next to the windows. She had some interest regarding witch culture, especially since apparently 80% of informations that she got from Millie her witch friend were probably untrue. Witch laws though, sounds as boring as regular laws. She also noticed the emblem on the law teacher's gloves resembled those abjurer's, which made her wonder if the witches basically sent their polices to retrieve them.

Fortunately instead of a thick law book they got a holographic magical movie instead. Ruth didn't understand much about Regent, Wild magic or even the monster itself, but it sounds cool and it looks cool. It made her hyped for season 2, if there's any. When the teacher prompted the students to ask question the hunched student immediatelg threw barrages of questions at the teacher. She winced at the amount of questions. Well, she understand where he's coming from with all those questions, though she felts some of those would be better to be asked to a councelor instead of the lawyer-teacher. After Arii finished their question, Ruth also raised her hand. Truthfully she too had many questions that wants to be answered, but hearing a teacher sprouting a wall of answers sounds boring so she would only ask one.

"What is the most popular game for witches?" Yes, game. Since she couldn't bring her consoles she wanted to at least learn new games. Long ago when she asked Millie about this, the young girl answered 'Soccer but everything is flying'. It took Ruth a few weeks to realize that she's just messing around and referencing a novel. The next time they met in Must she blow a hole through Millie's head and camped her spawn point.

Thorn's ears twitched as Korri started to introduce himself, the Green Panda lifting his head and turning to watch as Kori awkwardly berated himself then fell asleep.

Felix was drifting off himself when Korri started talking, squinting across the room as the other was talking to his bird as he began to settle down for bed. Once Felix opened his mouth, Korri seemed to be out like a light.

With a sigh, Felix started to get comfortable again.

'I'll just meet him proper in the morning.' he thought to himself. Besides, him and Korri shared a room, it's not like they'd spend the whole year sharing it and not properly meeting. That'd be like something from a comedy.

Thorn huffed as he also went back to sleep.

---

By the time morning came, Felix felt well rested, but quickly felt that something was off. Especially when he looked to the other side of the room. He got ready for the day, sparing glances to the other end of the room but slowly forgot why he felt so off kilter. That didn't stop the nagging feeling from being present in the back of his mind the rest of the day, however.

He left Thorn in the room, scratching the plant beast behind the ear before he headed to the commons room, and was glad that he along with the other Wild Borns got their schedules, it would've been nice to get them the day before but this was fine.

That feeling that something was off was back when everyone got their schedules, but he couldn't fully place it and it annoyed him a little.

Breakfast wasn't anything special. Their first class of the day wasn't one he really looked forward to. Learning about laws so early in the morning sounded like a slog, but Witch culture didn't sound to bad. He supposed it was like a history course, and history had it's interesting moments even if it had it's dark ones.

Not even thirty minutes in did he find himself partially disoriented.

"I'm sure you have plenty of questions... Let me tell you a story."

"Let's talk about how Wild Magic almost destroyed us all, shall we?"

The bloody battlefield, the screaming from every side, it was too much at once at nine in the morning.

Then the...thing being fought by four individuals made his brows furrowed because just...what was that? He had questions, alright.

"The Regents... They stroke a bargain with the sources of magic, they pledged to restore balance to our world and in exchange they got the power to keep the monsters at bay." Visions of the world healing back and society rebuilding are seen before the room shifts back to a regular classroom. "Now, I'm not that into speeches and lecturing. So let's do something more dynamic, ask me anything you want to know about witches and I'll answer you." That said, she went back to her desk and took her seat once more.

Felix realized that...a lot if these teachers were a bit more show than tell with their teaching styles.

The three other students who had gotten there a little before him and found their own seats had begun asking questions, but he had a few of his own.

"Who are the Regents and what caused those monsters? You mentioned how Wild Magic almost 'destroyed us all' but didn't elaborate on how that started. Is all that why you guys are so secretive of magic?" He spoke up, curious. He assumed it happened long ago, and based on how bad that battlefield had looked it probably shaped how things were.

He felt like he had more questions about what they were shown, but the questions were mostly half formed and at least one was asked by Korri, and a few by Arii.

Notable Physical Features: Hara's eyes are tainted orange and her hair is stained with streaks and tips of the same yellow/orange hue. She is also very tall at 5'11

lómhara awoke from her dream in a cold sweat, sitting up rapidly while grabbing at her neck at chest instinctively, her breathing rasping and rapid. Taking a few moments to collect herself the young woman lay back in her bed and closed her eyes, taking deep breaths while feeling her chest for a pulse. Once she had calmed down sufficiently she moved to get dressed. Though what she had thought to be a terribly realistic dream was soon brought into question when she inspected herself in the mirror. Bruises had formed exactly where she had been pinned in said dream and to make matters even worse they were just as tender as one would have expected. Just what had happened during the night? Had the room harmed her in response to her dream like how it had formed in accordance with her wishes? Using make-up to cover her marks lómhara continued to get ready for class, arriving in the common room just as the staff member did too.

Taking her schedule lómhara scanned it and memorised it quite quickly, moving to have her breakfast as well as a morning stroll before making her way to class, the walk doing little to distract her mind from what had happened last night. Though funny enough her tenderness seemed to have faded by the time she took her seat. The class began immediately after the teacher had arrived, though in quite a different way than lómhara had expected. For a class on Witch Culture and Laws, the class was held in a rather 'casual' way. Much different to the high-strung nature of such a subject and very different to what lómhara had been used to in terms of education delivery. The teacher, Helvetica Scribanus, went on to introduce herself and explain that this was the only class the Chameleon house would be taking separate from the rest of the first-year body. The reason was simple enough, everyone in the Rainbow Charmelion house was from the human world and as such would require an education on the principles and societal structure of this new world they would now be navigating. And as expected from the gazes lómhara had felt both yesterday and today while walking the campus, 'wild borns' such as herself and her classmates were not viewed in a good light by the greater population. Such was made very evident by the teachers use of the term 'highblood'.

That being said, who was lómhara to judge, perhaps they truly had reason to look down on wild borns. Perhaps this clear class-based viewpoint was in place for a reason, only time would reveal such as for now, lómhara had no information about the magical society or world outside of what she had amassed in the two days she had now spent in it. Though speaking of being looked down upon for being a wild-born... that woman from her dream had done the same... quite literally.

With the class moving on and shifting to a story-based medium of epic proportion, lómhara watched on and listened to the best of her ability through the haze and screaming, taking notes as her senses were toyed with by the magic imbued within the scene. Though as soon as she laid eyes upon the blond elf, her eyes began to glow a dim orange in response. Standing before her, fighting against the Lovecraftian esc beast stood the woman from her dreams, wielding earth magic the likes of which was shocking. What was going on?

Sitting quietly in her chair as others asked questions in the wake of the scene, lómhara was entranced, her focus entirely on the blond elf while her own magic stirred within her. Channelling it harmlessly but without any intent to do so, her bracelet eating it up.

Sleeping in a place that wasn't home, even if it sort of looked like her room, was difficult. Sonia managed a solid few hours in a row, then was awake every 40 minutes or so afterwards, tossing and turning and always searching for Fern first to keep from accidentally squishing him. As such, she got herself up and moving early, and took him with her to the bathroom so he wouldn’t fall off the bed while she was gone. Ruth was up by the time she emerged, and after pausing to stare blankly at the pentagram on the ground Sonia gave it a wide berth and left the room to find breakfast.

As sad as she was to leave Fern behind, she knew it was the rules. She left her suitcase next to the bed so he would have a way to get up and down, gave him a little kiss goodbye, and set him on her pillow to rest while she was away at class. It was less nerve wracking to go when others were walking that way as well, and she tried to focus on memorizing her schedule while they waited in their classroom for the teacher to arrive.

She wasn't sure what she had expected from a school based in magic, but it was not to be immediately transported to a battlefield.

The sight of blood and bodies, the sounds of the screams - it struck her to her core, until she felt cold from her fingertips to her toes. What was this? Why was she here? What was going on? Was it real? Was any of this real? There were too many questions, and too many things to see at once. Later in the day, perhaps, she would find it in herself to be surprised she hadn't screamed.

The classroom crashed back into existence once more, and Sonia jumped in her chair, grounded by the pain of her knee cracking up against the bottom of her desk, and found her schedule crushed and torn in shaking hands. She stared down at it with wide, terrified eyes, in desperate hopes that if she just didn't look up at all she wouldn’t see that place ever again. Her classmates voices were somewhere, floating nearby with words that weren't meant for her and couldn't reach her regardless, but she couldn’t find it in herself to make a sound. What would come out of her mouth, she wondered, if she did anything but breathe? Would she scream? Would she cry? Would she demand to know why she was forced to see such horrible things? In that moment, she could only think of one thing to say.

I want to go home.

Ryan had never been much of a morning person, preferring to sleep in instead of going to school on time. When his powers had awakened the need to stay buried in his bed for the day was even more intoxicating, but today seemed different. After being awakened by the familiar discomfort of tense vibrations running up and down his arms Ryan slowly rose from his bed, rubbing his arms with a grimace as he tried to relieve the growing pressure in his muscles. The urge to flop back into bed and return to the blissful embrace of sleep was almost too great to ignore, but a warm fluttering feeling in his chest was enough to keep him upright in his bed and force his brain to start up. It was officially the first day of his time at the academy and a mixture of excitement and anxiousness rose from his stomach to his chest. What the day had in store for him could be anyone's guess, but Ryan was prepared to take it head-on. That is until he stopped dragging his feet from his bed and actually opened his to greet the morning sun.

After taking care of his morning routine, a quick shower, brushing his teeth, and a speedily whispered pep speech in the mirror, Ryan left his dorm house after being given his class schedule and headed to the cafeteria to fill his rumbling stomach. Deciding to sit alone for breakfast he silently ate his meal, examining his schedule with a curious glint in his eye. A sudden thought crossed his mind as he looked over the sheet and lowered his head with a sigh. "I have no idea where I'm going," he mumbled to himself with slight irritation. Perhaps he should have tried to explore more yesterday. After quickly finishing his food Ryan left the cafeteria to get a head start on finding his first class. It took him a while to locate his first class, fearing he was about to be late on his first day, but luckily, he spotted room 1-C and let out a sigh of relief before hurrying to the door. He was a bit surprised to see some of his fellow dorm mates attending the same class as him, but upon thinking about it a bit further it made sense. He wasn't entirely sure what made them different from the other students of the academy, the knowledge of the reason why having been lost from the exhaustion of his trip to the school.

Luckily this new teacher was preparing to explain why as he took a seat in front of the class. So basically, they were the backwater hicks of magic society and had to have their hands held so they wouldn't bother everyone else. Sounds about right. A small sigh escaped him as Helvetica was about to tell them a story and leaned back in his seat, mentally preparing for a long lecture. To his shock though they were all transported to a completely different environment. Ryan slowly rose from his seat as his eyes wandered around his surroundings. Destruction, mutilated corpses, and skin-crawling screams coming from every direction. His eyes widened at the nightmarish sight and felt his breath clog in his throat as his brain tried to process what he was seeing. Finally, he spotted a massive creature with pure white wings flying overhead. At first, he found the being to be breathtakingly beautiful until he watched as the creature destroyed a distant town with nearly blinding rays of light. "Holy shit," he whispered under his breath as he unknowingly took a step towards the spectacle, nearly tumbling over his desk in the process. It was a terrifying sight to watch, but the familiar tingling sensation in his arms only grew more intense and found himself scoffing in a mixture of disbelief and horrible amusement. Do monsters like this really exist?

Ryan's attention was soon brought to the four witches fighting the monster and defeating it. "Regents," he muttered under his breath, the one word echoing throughout his mind. Finally, the spectacle around them disappeared, and found himself falling back into his seat, his eyes still staring at where the monster had been. A heavy breath escaped him and ran his fingers through his hair, taking a moment to clear his mind from the sudden 'history lesson' given by their teacher. A weak chuckle escaped Ryan as Arii began to rattle off question after question and glanced their way with an arched brow and a half-smile. At least that whole spectacle didn't seem to bother them too much. Looking around the rest of the class he listened to everyone else's questions, silently wanting the same answers. What were the Regents? Could they make the same connections with powers as they did? Where the hell did those monsters come from? Hell, he even wondered what kind of games the witches like, thinking it could help distract him from the grizzly history lesson. Soon he noticed Sonia looking pretty rattled from the spectacle and frowned in sympathy. Ryan had been shaken himself, but not as much as her it seemed. A long sigh escaped him as he leaned back in his seat and rubbed the back of his neck, unsure of what to ask their teacher.

After taking a moment to gain his voice back Ryan cleared his throat and shook his head. "Honestly, after watching that horror show, I could care less about your society at the moment. Mostly because I have a feeling monsters like that are still around," he admitted before meeting his teacher's eyes with a hard gaze and impatiently tapping his fingers on his desk. With a deep breath through his nose and ignoring the anxious feeling in his chest, Ryan continued. "When can we get started on controlling our powers? I just want to jump in it if we can and know how to actually use this," he finished and held up his arm, showing the pulsating tattoos covering his limb. He'd have plenty of time to learn about the magic society's history and politics, but after seeing that monster and the destroyed world Ryan just wanted to use his magic without feeling like he was going to explode.

Rumi criticizes the lesson.

Earth: 2

Rumi woke with sour look on her face, tangled in the maze that her blankets had become in the night. Annoyance and sleep tugging at the corners of her eyes.

" What a bitch, " she muttered, nose crinkling in her groggy distaste.
" And your puzzles weren't even hard," The girl's neutral smile found it's place back on her face as she muttered the insult to what she believed to be a character her subconscious had concocted. Maybe some symbol of feeling trapped in a deadly school, battling forces she did not yet have the knowledge to combat? Or whatever. She'd psychoanalyze herself after she got ready.

For now she stretched, crawling to the edge of the veiled bed and poking her face through the curtains.
" Guess who I dreamed about last night," Rumi called across the room, not bothering to actually check if Bella was actually awake.

She wasn't exactly distressed, despite feeling as though her life was in genuine danger at the time. It was actually a welcome break from the usual trauma responses honestly- a lot less on the nose. Tastefully vague even.

The following morning was uneventful, a quick shower- an hour for her skincare routine, another half for combing out all of her hair, another for picking out an outfit- the usual.

-
The wild born witch took her seat in class 1-C with the came elegance she always kept about her, one leg crossed over the other, back straight in her seat as she took in the teacher's words. Well, at least they weren't left to culturally flounder about, though this also seemed the perfect class to spoon feed them whatever sour propaganda they had rotting in their basement to justify their decidedly fucked up culture.

A certain " meme " involving an orange cat was brought to mind, though Rumi was- in fact- immune to propaganda. What kind of manipulative bitch would she be if she let the powers at be tug her along on a string? A sucky one.

"Let's talk about how Wild Magic almost destroyed us all, shall we? "
Oh, yep. There it was. Rumi held back an eye roll as she prepared for some meticulously crafted third person account of wildly exaggerated events that had probably occurred hundreds of years prior. She certainly wasn't ready to have the illusion of a scene play out before her- though like her previous suspicion; shock didn't show through her smile in the slightest.
Transporting the students to an emotionally charged field of battle with no warning nor context rather than present the facts and explain what was actually happening seemed like a sloppy method of clouding their judgment with fear to her, but oh well.

"Now, I'm not that into speeches and lecturing. So let's do something more dynamic, ask me anything you want to know about witches and I'll answer you."

Oh, Rumi had a lot to ask- but just as she opened her mouth, the little fireball from earlier opened their own. A few more students added their own in to the frey as well. Oh yeah, that covered a great deal of them.

" Yes. What they all said. But also, not a question; but a friendly criticism. The way you phrased your earlier statement was misleading. From what I saw- monsters- which apparently exist- almost destroyed you all, and wild magic was given up to appease some magical sources. Gods maybe? I have to admit, I'll be a bit upset if I have to start worshiping the sun or something. But either way, If you initially describe things in such a misleading way, your students are less likley to take your words at face value,"

She still had her doubts on the school, but if the previous lessons were anything to go by; she may as well give up on actually coming to respect the vast majority of these teachers. Voicing them any further than a cheery-faced constructive criticism jab was pointless.

The first one to ask had tons of questions, any normal person would have needed a pause but Helvetica was used to this kind of scrutiny. "We took it because it isn't allowed on the campus, although I guess you actually meant why it isn't allowed in the first place? If that's so, then the answer is simple: You are here to study magic, human tech isn't magic and therefore doesn't belong here." Then she moves to her second question. "Well I'm sure you know how, we just grabbed it. Illegal? Maybe if we were humans, which we aren't, and even then I'm sure there's plenty of mundane schools with the same type of rules on electronics."

By the context of the other questions, she realized exactly what must have happened. "I see you've met Moraine already! Well, that's only part true. Our society has the same laws regarding homicide and all that, except when it comes to insubordination, treason and wild magic. You must understand that wild magic almost resulted in the death of all humans and witches alike so in order to coexist treaties regarding magic had to be made and upheld." She snaps her fingers, projecting the image of the four Regents.

IMG_20220925_103641.jpg

"The Regents signed these treaties with the human rulers thousands of years ago and of course they are renewed every four years to ensure they are kept relevant towards both societies. However, one aspect has always remained: Wild Magic is forbidden." She waves the projection away. "So that's why you must commit to one source of magic when you graduate, otherwise you would be a Wild Witch." Surely not for long... But she abstains from making death threats tho, she isn't Moraine.

"What positive aspects would a publicly known address have? We don't want meddling humans getting blasted away by hormone fueled teen witches. However, as a fun fact: Magical Academies are built on top of convergences so their location are completely random." She snaps her fingers and a projection of the planet appears, it's covered by a lot of blue lines and some of them intersect. "Ley Lines, think of them as the magical veins of our planet. You are able to cast magic because your bodies absorb mana, a.k.a. magical energy, from the ambient. Ley Lines supply that mana to the ambient."

The points in which the Ley Lines intersect begin to glow stronger. "Convergence points occur naturally when two or more Ley Lines cross paths, the excess of magic in these sites is used to maintain the infrastructure's power and wards running." Then she waves the projection away, since it served its purpose already. "Abjurers take care of any incidents regarding wild magic and any threats to the secrecy, I guess the fact you haven't noticed it's a clear sign we're doing a good job." Arii's question about magic feeling was easy enough to answer. "Well, intuition plays a big part into witchcraft, if you aren't feeling it maybe you aren't ready or you haven't resonated with the right source yet. Try meditating about your conduit moment and the feelings you had there. Earth source, right? Well, between all that anxiety and fear, didn't you feel connected to nature or your own biological processes? It's like explaining how sneezing feels, honestly, that's why you'll only get vague explanations."

Then she was questioned by another student, although this one seemed more scared than curious. "About the sources... They aren't some kind of deities or something like that if that's what creeps you out, they have some type of conscience but they aren't like you and me having a conversation the way we are used to. Only the Regents would know for sure tho, they are the living embodiments of the sources. In any case, we don't pray to them nor make pacts or whatever. We just use them, as the tools they are."

A diagram appears in the air, showing a cartoon drawn silhouette of a witch and a clear prism in where their heart should be. "Witches and other magical beings are born with a Magical Catalyst in their hearts, Wild Borns grow one during their conduit moment of course." Then four symbols representing each source appear around the silhouette, the prism changes color whenever a symbol glows and the silhouette performs some magic tricks related to each source when the time is right. "With that catalyst inside you, you attune your magic into one of the sources signals, so to speak."

Then the silhouette is branded with a Magical Blue Sigil, changing to a single colour permanently, the rest of sources stops glowing as the silhouette only connects with the moon now but even when they stop channeling moon magic the prism stays blue no longer capable of turning clear again. "During your graduation ceremony you'll undergo a ritual that'll permanently attune you to a source of magic and forbids you from connecting to the other three ever again." The illusion vanishes as she hears the next question.

"Games? Oh, well, there's Familiar Battles and Hexcards Duels. There's also VRMMORPGs and ARMMORPGs, although they aren't exclusively for witches they were created with the help of Sky and Moon Magic so they are quite popular as well." There wasn't much else to say about it tho, so she was thankful to get a more history related question from another student. "This one is interesting, I'm sure by now you are familiar with the four sources."

As she claps her hands the projection of four symbols representing the sources appear again but this time they are divided in categories. Celestial Magic (Sun & Moon) to the left and Terrestrial Magic (Earth & Sky) to the right. "But I'm sure you never saw them classified this way, right? Well, It may surprise you to learn that originally witches were only able to cast Earth and Sky magic, it shouldn't really, it's only logical they were attuned to the closest ones." Then a new face appears in front of everyone, a beautiful blonde woman wearing odd garments representing both the sun and the moon.

IMG_20221009_143449.png

"That's until a baby witch is born during a solar eclipse, named 'Eclipsa' by her parents to commemorate such a singular occurrence. She was the first witch capable of casting Sun Magic and Moon Magic and she taught others how to tap into these sources." The silhouette of a witch appears again, with a clear prism. "While a witch is young, their Catalyst is able to handle all types of magic. However..." This time, as the witch goes cyclically through all four types of magic, the prism begins to crack. "Older witches can't control wild magic and its rampant nature."

The catalyst finally shatters when they are casting a sun spell, the silhouette transforms into that of the huge winged creature shown before. "If your Catalyst Breaks, magic will consume you and those creatures will have an entrance to our world... Through your body." Now the silhouette of a regular human, no catalyst, is shown. "For regular humans, magical knowledge is toxic, infectious. Without a Catalyst to protect them they are eventually consumed by madness and magic alike, allowing entrance to them as well." The silhouette is shown reading a grimoire, soon after taking the form of a different type of creature.

"So yes, in order to keep everyone safe we must be secretive of magic to all extends. Of course the human is safe unless they actually stumble upon true magical knowledge but you know, they tend to be curious beyond their own safety so we can't allow any breaches." Then the image of the four Regents is shown once more. "Oh, right. I almost forgot. When everything went to hell, the Regents came up with a ritual to bind themselves each to one of the sources. The specifications about it are obviously not public knowledge so I can't help you there, anyway, they are our leaders. Created the Coven system to avoid the errors the past and conform the Covenant that rules it."

She crosses her arms after hearing Ryan's insinuations about the monsters still living among us. "Making sure that magical knowledge is regulated and wild magic eradicated is The Abjurers job, since we aren't living in a post apocalyptic world I think we are doing a good job." She sees his pulsating veins, not the weirdest thing but unusual anyways. "That's what your 101 Source classes are for, you'll all learn how to further control your magic."

Then the impertinent Rumi makes her comments. "Thank you for that, now some friendly criticism from me: using a fake name not only makes you look untrustworthy, treacherous and suspicious but also the fact it's made to sound similar to another one denotes a clear lack of self-esteem and individuality." Her tone was casual, a simple exchange of feedback. "Now, I think that pretty much covered all your questions. With all this new information I'm sure you might have new ones, so I'll let you digest it all before continuing."

Judas was woke up somewhat groggy and out of energy. What a great way to start the day. He slowly but surely got out of bed, stretching himself to energize him. He got up and waddled to the bathroom and looked at himself in the mirror. He splashed himself with water in a attempt to fully wake himself up. He looked at himself yet again, running his fingers across the lightning shaped mark on his cheek. He sighed and began to clean himself up, still being a little drowsy. After throwing on an outfit and lacing his shoes, he put on his cloak and headed out to the cafeteria. The breakfast was, so-so, but he couldn’t afford to learn on an empty stomach. After that, he headed to class.

Once he got there he yawned a bit too loud. “Oops…sorry.” He awkwardly speedwalked to his seat trying to mitigate his embarrassment. After the teacher talked about the history of magic and the academy. (He wasn’t really listening due to being a little drowsy) a student came to criticize the lesson. He looked to see that it was the girl who couldn’t make a plant creature. Seeing that she was rather skeptical about this academy, it did raise a few questions. The teacher retorted with explaining more of the origins of this world. Such as The Regents and a more thorough explanation of Abjurers and their role. As well as why wolf magic was banned. Of course, poking fun at the student who criticize the academy and it’s system. He turned to the student, than back at the teacher. “Honestly, she does make a pretty good point. Why would you teach us about these sources only for us to stick with one thing for the rest of our lives to appease a god that probably doesn’t exist?” It wasn’t like him to be an inquisitive. But he was genuinely curious on how things work around here.

As Helvetica continued with the class and addressed the plethora of questions posed, lómhara did her best to listen carefully. Still shaken somewhat by the sudden display containing the woman who had assaulted her last night during her dream, lómhara paid special attention to the part relating to the 'regents' as well as the treaties to which they were synonymous. It seemed as though the Elven woman from her dreams was indeed a powerful witch and one with quite the standing in this new world. But could she really be over a thousand years old? Was she really an elf for that matter? What did she mean when she accused lómhara of defying her? The more she learned the more information she felt she was lacking. The information she felt wouldn't be wise to outright ask about either, for if she really had defied this regent, then surely revealing such through her questioning would result in some form of punishment. Wild-born mages, after all, didn't seem to be all that well looked upon, if her identity was in fact revealed to this regent. Well, it seemed finding a magical lawer would be quite the predicament.

With that in mind, lómhara decided to ask two questions now that she had calmed down and was no longer accidentally spilling her mana out and into her bracelet. One question was aimed at finding out a little more about the regents and the other, although one she genuinely had, was aimed at hiding her interest in the regents beyond the norm. Raising her hand lómhara spoke in a very clear manner, her eyes locked with those of the teacher as she spoke. Her voice carried through the room with ease yet without having been raised at all. "I have two questions, Miss Helvetica. The first is in relation to the 'regents' you spoke of. You claim they sign contracts once every four years with the world we are more familiar with correct? Is that to say that those regents from those thousand years past are still alive and well? If so and given they sign these treaties are we to conclude they are essentially the nobility of this world? Or something of a similar weighting?"

Pausing for a brief second to let her question be processed lómhara soon continued with her second.

"as for my second question, it relates to the signing of contracts with familiars and the link between master and servant given the fact our 'cores' may change upon graduation. If I, let's say, contract with a phonix. It would become bound to me and I to it. Our lives are linked through the bonding of our magics and souls. This creature then would also require my mana to feed upon and survive as much as I may require its strength in battle or for any plethora of reasons. Based on the book I read this is the standard agreement correct, mana for the beast, power/utility for the caster. That may all be fine and well for me now as a wild mage who can feed it solar mana as simply as i might nature. Though what happens if I later lock into nature magic upon graduation? The phonix has been feasting on my solar magic to this point. I suppose what I'm trying to ask is. will this result in me and my familiar dying? I only ask this because I haven't seen any witches walking around with familiars that do not suit their school type. Though perhaps I'm looking to far into this as a fresh-born wild witch."

Returning her hand to her desk lómhara awaited a response while rubbing at her bracelet. The question was clearly about her dependant dragon but she didn't want to let the rest of the class in on the fact she had summoned such a thing during the first exam nor that at current her mana was essential to its survival.

Rumi couldn't help but think the lesson should have started out with these explanations.
Yeah okay , she could see why wild magic was a no-go if it killed the host and let magic bastards in to the world through your shriveled corpse. Fair enough. Showing random monster murder to a room full of stupid kids? Not the best route to teach.

"Thank you for that, now some friendly criticism from me: using a fake name not only makes you look untrustworthy, treacherous and suspicious but also the fact it's made to sound similar to another one denotes a clear lack of self-esteem and individuality."

...Huh?
It took the girl a few moments to process that jab at her persona. Red eyes staring blank, before flickering up to the teacher and narrowing in equal parts annoyance and befuddlement.

The fact that teacher knew aspects of her life never uttered to a soul outside her family was obviously disturbing, but at least whatever magical source had granted her access to them was clearly unable to process nuance to any degree. Or maybe that was just the woman's own flaw.

" It isn't a fake name," The words were firm on her lips, the closest workings to a frown she dared host pulled at her face for a moment.

And then a thought crossed her mind.
Did. Magical world not have trans people? Well. Obviously they did, but was it just not common knowledge to have? Were they in the magical equivalent of the fuckin 1980s?

" Ma'am... Do you...do you know what transgender means?" Rumi was struggling to bite back a laugh at the show of ignorance on behalf of an apparently omnipotent educator. Sure, the remark could have been made in an act of bigotry. Wouldn't be all too strange for a teacher in this world or the next- but Rumi was opting for the funnier of the two explanations, giving the teacher the benefit of the doubt.

" Oh! Oh! This is fucking hilarious- What do you think my "real" name is, babe? Do you think I'm a boy too? " The very thought of someone attempting to call her by her birth name while she sported her pink crop top and L'Oreal model hair brought tears of comedic wonder to her eyes.

Sure- maybe she would have done the woman a solid and quietly corrected her after class had the mistake been made in good faith, but magic bullshit she had no right to use against her? Inexcusable. If you have the power to read her memories or whatever ,at least have the decency to magic-google why someone might change their name.

Rumi was doubled over laughing now, expertly manicured hand tapping lightly on her desk as she wheezed. That prod at her name didn't hurt at all. No fuckin' sir. Definitely didn't make her wish she had worn something more conservative now that her hastily thrown together defense of laughter would direct the classroom eyes on to her.

Did these clothes make her hips look too narrow, or did they just feel that way?

God this school sucked. But whatever. She was just until she found a way to help Ruri, then she could leave.

" I cant believe I got micro-aggressioned at the magic school, it's perfect! Really can't thank you enough! Making my day all over again!"

Arii nodded along just fine with the teacher as she explained things—mildly condescendingly, but most teachers did that, and they didn't have years of dealing with History teachers for nothing. Still, their brain stuttered on a few things.

By the time they'd formulated a reply, the sharp-toothed one was speaking, their voice sparking the proverbial righteous tinder in Arii's chest. Like a hog in a feast, it didn't take long for the flames to catch, and soon nonexistent smoke boiled up to their tongue in such a manner that it hardened to steel and bladed itself with a scathing sharpness. They screwed up their nose.

The sharp one's confidence ran down to them, all but infectious in the way it fanned the pyre that roasted what little respect they had for the teacher. "Fake?" The word burned as it fell. "What in the lands of styx is a fake name? A name; a collection of syllables one uses to refer to someone as—if that individual responds to it, then... how? Fake?" Arii's ears twitched back in a reflection of what looked for all the world like hurt.

Another thing burned under their ribs.

How did that teacher know that?

Unease crawled up their spine, prickling sharply with needled points tipped with only the kind of poison that could take the air from their lungs.

What else does she know?

They cleared their own deadname from their mind with a few well-timed, vaguely disturbing videos of horses eating baby chickens, and in a display of rarely-used self control, they stamped out the questions flickering to life on their tongue.

The copper in their mouth as they bit their cheek helped, too.

Then and there, Arii came to a conclusion. This school is a place for the known. A place for the witches that have always been such. A place for those in their rigid structure, and unwelcoming to newcomers.

No wonder Jet didn't like talking about his schooling experience.

They resolved to find him a new fountain pen to add to his collection... if they ever managed to get out.

"Despite our rejection of human technology on campus it might surprise you that we don't live under a rock." Apparently the fake named Rumi and the unfeeling Arii got all upset from her last remark, mistaking it as a transphobic comment. The professor calmly opens one of the drawers of her desk, taking out a folder containing a bunch of forms and papers. "Fake as not they legal name, of course." She answers towards Arii while walking in Rumi's direction and leaving the folder in their desk before returning to her own. "There you go, with those you'll be able to legally change your name. It's valid for both human and witch societies, obviously." She takes a moment before saying another thing, carefully analyzing if it's insulting or not.

"Also, in case it's a thing you would even want or anyone else, for that matter, reassignment rituals are a thing in Witch Society. They are painless, free and can be made to be permanent or temporary." Hopefully this wouldn't cause another uproar. "Just passing on the info, not implying anything."

Arii... blinked. It was a slow, almost painful-looking endeavor as they stared at the papers presented to the sharp one. A breath filled their lungs. Another. It took a third to bring words to their throat. To clear the unsettled prickling along their spine that lingered in their veins.

Their next words were slow. Careful as they leaned just backward enough that they could shoot out of their chair if the need arose. They felt like acid on their tongue even as they quieted their tone to one an adult may take with a confused child. "My... preferred name in college... is Brie. Does that make it a fake name? I call my brother Carm. Is that a fake name? Why should a name have to be legal for it to be... real?"

Another breath.

"The medical transition information is... good, though. Thank you."

Their thanks was sour on their tongue, though it didn't come across in their tone at all. Calm, they reminded themself, expression impassive as they stomped on the sparks of rebellion in their throat. Calm. You have to deal with this person for the rest of the year. Calm.

"Abjurers..." Ryan muttered under his breath as his teacher mentioned them, the title lingering in his thoughts for a moment as he leaned back in his seat. So basically, secret magical police tasked with keeping the bad parts of the magical world in check? Cool. His attention soon returned to his teacher as she informed him about 101 source classes and took in a long breath, his fingers clenching and un-clenching anxiously, wanting nothing more than to head straight to that class and get started. But, like any other school, he was going to have to wait until they could get to the good classes. So, with no other option, Ryan leaned forward onto his desk and began to slowly tap his fingers along the surface. It wasn't like he found everything she was telling them to be uninteresting, quite the opposite actually, but he couldn't help but feel impatient as the familiar pressure in his limbs only grew more uncomfortable to deal with. It's been like one long muscle cramp since he opened his eyes and he simply wanted to let out the pent-up magic currently pulsing through his veins.

Luckily, or maybe unluckily for some, Ryan would become distracted from his discomforts as their teacher seemed to have pressed one of Rumi's buttons when she mentioned their apparent 'fake name'. "Oh boy," he muttered as he leaned back in his seat to watch as Rumi started to start to laugh her ass off, slapping her desk and wheezing between laughter. Arching a brow in a mixture of curiosity and concern, Ryan wondered if she was about to keel over in her seat. Luckily that didn't seem to be the case and soon he glanced over to Arii as they spoke up, also seeming unpleased by their teacher's slip-up. Ryan stretched his limbs as the conversation continued on, listening quietly and figuring he'd stay out of it since he didn't have a dog in this fight. Plus, the two of them seemed to be going at the teacher well enough without him. Though he did linger on the topic for a moment, thinking of his own name. Ryan Teller. For a brief moment, his nose scrunched up in slight uncertainty. He had always been proud of his family name but after his awakening, it had felt much emptier when he said it aloud. Ryan quickly shook his head at the thought, not wanting to linger any longer on it, and returned his attention to the class to see the conversation between both his classmates and teacher come to an end. For now, at least.

With a long sigh, Ryan leaned his seat back and swung his legs atop his desk, crossing one leg over the other to make himself comfortable while balancing himself and his chair. "Now that you brought up rituals, are there any other types of rituals worth mentioning?" he questioned before rotating his wrist as his mind processed further words to his question. "Like, are there rituals we can use to enhance our abilities? Maybe one that could even boost our familiars? Hell, how about one that would give us a pair of badass wings?" he asked with a slight chuckle toward the end. "What are the rules and limits with them?" he finished as he continued to rock himself in his tilted seat, his left foot lightly tapping his other as they rested atop of his desk.

People were talking, but all she could hear was the screaming. It stuck in her brain, playing on a loop that blended into a deafening cacophony with the voices actually speaking around her until she couldn’t hear her own breaths. Her eyes stayed glued to her desk, a blank surface that made it too easy to picture the blood and bodies and the massive thing that flew above laying waste to them all. It had all felt so real.

Sonia was, for a moment, glad for the strange cloaks that made up their uniform. It was something it hide her hands in, to curl her fingers into and hold closed over her chest like a blanket, as effective as hiding beneath the covers to keep the boogeyman away but still something to cling to and hide in when she had nowhere else to run. She was a good girl; she didn’t get into fights, or go to bad parts of town - she didn’t even watch gory movies, for god’s sake. How was she supposed to make sense of so much carnage? If the point was to scare her, it had worked, but she couldn’t help feeling as if it had jumped past afraid and straight to paralyzed.

Slowly, as the voices droned on, the individual words began to fade back into focus. Her eyes raised gradually from her desk to drift between all of the competing voices, asking questions, demanding answers, laughing. Couldn’t they still hear it? Couldn’t they still see it? Was she the only one present that was so - so soft as to think the massacre that had been laid out before them in such vivid detail still mattered? It was real. It was real, wasn’t it?

Think of your conduit moment, their tormenter said, and it was all Sonia could find to latch onto. The individual events were blurry after she'd run into that burning house, body moving before she'd had time to think, but she remembered the feelings, the heat and the pressure, reaching for her like a thing alive until she reached for it in turn and felt it in her veins. For the old woman that lived there, for the life it had tried to take. The Regents had acted to save people, and so had she on a much smaller scale. It was why she had come here, to learn how to use the terrifying, exhilarating energy inside her to do something good for whoever she could.

For a moment, she felt like she understood the Regents, and a tiny fraction of the things they had once stood for. She just wished it didn’t have make her feel so much like throwing up, first.

Wait? They have trading cards dueling and familiar cockfighting?? Now, she's hyped!! This is a legit reason for her to really try hard to obtain her familiar! She's a bit too hyped that she started doodling some monster sketches on her notebook. She's still listening to what the teacher said especially the ones regarding the basic of magic, she's especially intrigued about the ley lines and how she described how a witch feels their magic. Her doodles soon changed from random monsters into a complex replica of her own room with a few semi-transparent lines above it.

So far, raising Potato and conjuring that pot were the only instances were she tried to intentionally interact with magic and succeeded so she must be doing something right there. The rest were mostly something that she didn't even realize until it happened. What was something that happen in those two events?? Was it the magic items? Emotions? Something else? Or maybe she shouldn't think withcraft as science and more like art? Or maybe she simply hadn't found the pattern? She had some ideas that she wanted to try, but maybe not right now as it would involve fire.
