Fantasy Hunter's Moon: The Sin & Sentence [IC] [CLOSED]

"Rise and shine." said Riberta from the back. Cassandra spoke next. "We decided to pay you and the others a visit. Mainly to check on you, as you've been so dreadfully quiet." she said, motioning Hudson to open the door further. "We've been stopped for a few hours now, and we've not heard a peep! Rather strange coming from you all...especially our friendly constable!"

Hudson opened the door wider, not able to speak much of the others in the cabin with him. "Can't say I know what they've been up to. I'm not exactly keeping watch over them." he muttered somewhat distantly. "But I think we're fine. If we're stopped it may be good for me to get off this fucking thing for a bit. Maybe eat grab some of whatever mess they've assembled for us."

"I suppose we'll find out how our friends are doing in the near future..." Mariette remarked, and there was a hint of disappointment in her voice. "I wouldn't mind stretching my legs a bit, too. This place is almost too comfortable. I don't want to get soft before the next battle," she joked.

Riberta nodded, stretching a bit. "That would be nice...I wonder what the wastes are actually like? Cat seemed sort of cautious about it." She glanced to the end of the hall, at the window in the side of the car. The air was oddly foggy, and colored a light grey. It also seemed to be eerily quiet.

Cassandra shrugged. "Shall we find out?" she said, flashing Mariette a grin as she gently took her hand yet again. "If there's creepy, weird things out there, we can just let the muscle smash them." She pointes her free hand's thumb towards Riberta, who made a serious face. Forcing Cassandra to giggle again.

For the first time in a long time, Jakob was able to properly sleep. Which was strange, considering all the bad things that had happened. These was some peace on his mind regardless, the same peace he had when Mariette appeared when they fought Hudson's shadow. He woke up to see Hudson opening the door to the room they had to sleep in. And there he saw Mariette and Cassandra standing together, holding hands. Jakob looked at them a bit confused at first, but it wasn't hard for him to catch up. He didn't want to make a big show about it, so he just waved at Mariette before giving her two thumbs up and a smile. He then rolled over, going back to sleep for a few more minutes.

With her evil copy being momentarily distracted by Kassidy, now chained in place, Seriphine took the opportunity to strike once more. As she leapt forth to attack she spoke through gritted teeth; "I will not allow you to resume my crusade and continue my heinous crimes, demon."

Shadow Seriphine offered no reply but a snicker before raising her own blade to defend herself. Meanwhile Faelnir sought out a new target to smite- fortunately for him there were plenty of targets to choose from. With quick steps he charged the party and raised his blade whilst letting out a fierce-some war cry which was repeated by the nearby thralls.

Focusing on the shadow shinobi wasn't so much an easy choice, not entirely, as Inari had to admit that elven shadow was quite the looker. This pathetic whelp she was dealing with now was a matter of duty and obligation. Any opposing ninja was meant to be obliterated. Back broken in two, spine severed, head on a stake. It was the only decent thing to do, after all. She adjusted her grip on her spirit blade and prepared to move back in again on the shadow ninja, though not before sparing a glance when she could at Seriphine and her shadow.

Senya charged Faelnir again, as he hunted for a target to strike, and carved a gash out of his back with her sword. He quickly retaliated, spinning around and slashing at Senya. Senya's shield, however, knocked the sword aside with ease. A moment later, a shot from Gwen's rifle ripped through Faelnir's shoulder, severely wounding him. The remaining hollow struck at Gwen, but very widely missed. Meanwhile, Henderson dispatched one of the hollows with ease, smashing the creature's head like a grape. Another hollow was shot down by Loque, racking the bolt on her rifle immediately afterwards. Takato also dispatched a hollow, before lifting the creature overhead and throwing it at Shadow Wesley. It hit the shadow copy hard, knocking him down to the ground long enough to allow Inari to slice at him and for Wesley's kunai to pierce his chest.

Suddenly, Shadow Wesley made some gestures with his hands...and two copies of himself appeared next to him on the ground. Both the copies stood up quickly, attacking Takato and Inari with rapid attacks. Takato had to fall back into a defensive stance as he was struck, while Inari counter attacked the copies with her blade.

Seriphine struck her copy with relative ease, feinting an overhead strike and instead slicing her copy across the sides. The copy retaliated with a slice across Seriphine's back, before something stabbed the copy in the back of the shoulder as well. When she looked back, a large knife jutted out. Vincent's knife. He had thrown it from where he was...and was quickly coming to retrieve it with his rifle slung onto his back. Pistol drawn, and taking aim at the shadow copy. Kassidy, nearby wrapped in chains, struggled to get free. And it seemed they were starting to loosen.

Once Faelnir drew out his attack, Senya parried the sword with her shield as planned. A shot pierced his shoulder, giving a much needed assist to weaken him. The Warden thought of a way to stagger him and moved back, giving some distance between him and her. Senya immediately charged with her shield, hoping to butt him with the thing before she could stab him in the chest.

It had been a while since Takato had really put that more jiaoli-heavy taigekkun style to use, but he was glad to see it had been effective! Seeing the shadow get knocked out, and Inari and Wesley following up his throw, proven ample time to decide what style to go for next, deciding to switch to a more hands-on taigekkun style. Before he could do anything however, the three of them watched as the shadow used a fenxing technique, akin to those used by Douean masters of myth, though he could feel the clones and the shadow each shared the same pool of qi, now feeling as though each was a third of Wesley's qi.

Despite that, or perhaps even in realization of it, the clones quickly rushed him and Inari. The taigekkun style Takato had switched to had to be adapted defensively, as he was struck by the clone's attacks. He'd have to concentrate on this clone and finish it off swiftly if he were to help Wesley or even Seriphine afterwards. With that in mind, he moved to disarm the clone and beat the shit out of it.

After the hollow died, Henderson would turn his attention to the other creatures. That elf fellow looked like he was important. The mutant charged him shoulder first.

Faelnir, for whatever reason, has made the gross mistake of not staying dead. Because of this, Loque opts to show him why he should stay dead by aiming and firing a bullet right between his legs.

Senya's shield bash proved successful, giving her a bit of space between her and the elf before she delivered a piercing stab into Faelnir's side. She quickly moved out of the way as soon as she saw Henderson charging, however. Henderson slammed into the elf, the impact almost sickening, before grabbing onto the elf's leg as he was sent flying. He was jerked back, slung overhead, and smashed right into the ground with a horrifying splat. Faelnir was dead.

Loque, now forced to choose a different target, instead fired off her shot at the hollow harassing Gwen. The bullet ripped through the hollow's head, bursting it like a melon. This gave Gwen some breathing room, as she changed her own target to one of the copies that Shadow Wesley had manifested. The bullet ripped through its shoulder, distracting it long enough for Inari to move in quickly. And with one swift swing, she beheaded the copy. The head rolled off, as its body collapsed to the ground and faded away. That was one copy down. Takato would continue fighting the second copy, rushing the copy and delivering brutal blows. The copy would deliver its own, far more aggressively and using dirty tricks to get hits in on the monk. Shadow Wesley would continue trying to eliminate its origin, delivering sharp cuts and stabs at Wesley. Wesley returned the favor, stabbing and slicing the shadow copy back with a kunai.

Seriphine and Shadow Seriphine continued their melee fight, swords clashing as they attempted to dispatch one another. Vincent joined in, firing shots from his pistol before delivering cuts of his own with another knife he drew from a sheath on his thigh. Kassidy continued trying to free herself, and soon did so as the chains slipped off.

The mutant let out a triumphant laugh after that splat. If all elves were this squishy, it was no wonder they went extinct. With the dead elf's leg in hand, Henderson turned around to fight another one. It was down to just three of them. 'Which one of these shadow idiots is the real one?' He wondered until he took a gamble and swung the leg towards the one attacking Takato.

Elsewhere...

The Northern Wastes

Soon enough, those aboard the train wishing to stretch their legs outside gathered at the door leading off the massive train. Cat, whom noticed their gathering, stepped over and opened the door for them. Giving them all a very nice view of the area around the train.

The land, stretching out for kilometers, was a pale white. It resembled the sand that covered some beaches of Adonia back in the mortal realm, but this appeared to be actual dirt. Splotching the ground here and there were clumps or a red substance...which strangely resembled a torn open carcass. Entrails scattered about. Some looked more plantlike however, making one wonder if it was genuinely corpses or strange fauna. In the distance, they could see a MASSIVE black tree, a pair of branches stretching out for several meters. Oddly, the other limbs jutting off the two branches jutted straight up for several meters themselves. No limbs went downward or off to the sides. Only upwards.

Clouds had come to gather now around the train, signifying the potential for rain in the area. Cat looked back to the group. "As I said before, avoid straying too far from the train. Also, avoid the red. Otherwise your red will be joining the red staining the ground." she cautioned, giving them each a worried look.

Senya gave a smirk once Faelnir was killed in action, turning to Shadow Seriphine as they were close to cutting down their enemies. She decided to switch to range attacks, holstering her sword and shield. She prepared two fireballs and aimed towards the dark elf, hurling them.

"Is that so?" Mariette replied as she stepped out onto the barren soil with Cassandra. She the stooped and picked up a rock laying in the white dirt, tossed it up and down in her hand a few times, before picking out one of the corpse-like splotches in the middle-distance. She took a two step wind up and then threw the stone as hard as she could at the reddish stain. Perhaps if there were something lurking underground, or if the entrails themselves were a threat in disguise, a bit of provocation would reveal its true nature.

The rock sailed through the air, darting over the white dirt, till it came near the middle of the red splotch that Mariette was aiming for. Suddenly, about a meter from her intended target, the red entrail-like entities suddenly shot up from where they lay. Like vines, they captured and violently crushed the rock with ease. The rock burst into a puff of smoke, before the red entrails dropped back to the ground. Appearing lifeless. Cassandra's eyes widened. "...Interesting." she said, glancing to Mariette.

Hudson acquired his morsels before stepping off of the train, lagging behind the group as he wolfed down his food and soon reconnected with them. He did not catch much about not straying off, though he did know that getting away from the train would be unwise. Silently he stepped off their vessel and stepped across the salted sands. Getting down on one knee he scooped much of it in front of him just to sift it down through his leather coated fist.

He watched Mariette's experimentation, standing up slowly once the hellish vines crushed the rock to dust. "This is closer to the Abyss I am familiar with. While chaos and monsters vying for dominance over barren wastes is common, this part doesn't seem to be hiding its intent. I am certain that the creatures skulking about here aren't envious of humans at the very least." Hudson commented, brushing his hand on the front of his coat.

Venextos had remained quiet for the most part during the travel on the train before it had brought them to this strange place within the Abyss. Upon exiting and viewing the strange locale, he frowned before speaking up: "This region of the Abyss has never been studied all that well... and probably for good reason." he remarked as he looked upon the strange black tree in the distance, "Before we continue on with our travels, I've been meaning to say something. I've had some time to ruminate on certain things as we have traveled and I ask everyone to, from now on, inform everyone else on things before actually doing them. Especially when it involves something that could potentially endanger everyone else. I'd rather we work as a team than as separate loose cannons, such a dynamic could result in unforeseen consequences."

Cassandra glanced back to Venextos, giving him a half-lidded look with a frown. "Quite the killjoy, aren't you?" she stated. "Do you see any of us going through with that concept, mage? Besides, we're in constant danger down here...it's Hell after all." She then turned back about, looling back to the red splotches. "If Sazak locates us, Mariette and I will take the blame. Though if you're with us at the time, that may not matter."

She stepped over in the direction of one of the red splotches. "...You said this part of the Abyss wasn't really studied all that much. Any idea why?" She squatted down and did the same as Mariette had done, picking up a stone and tossing it at the red splotch. "Too strange? Little interest?...Too dangerous?"

The rock was evicerated just as the other had been, latched onto by thick red vine-like ropes which ripped the stone to pieces. "...Whatever these things are...be they plant or creature...they react to movements in their proximity. Something for your scientific journal."

The fight between the hermit and the shadow's clone continued on aggressively, with Takato trying his best to rush down the copy and deliver some brutal blows. However, before he was able to continue on and try to lead his strikes one into the other like water, the clone began to use even dirtier tricks as to try and get hits in - whilst he would manage to avoid being struck in the eyes or the groin, low kicks to the knees and swift strikes to his throat, along with abrupt knife stabs, would manage to slow him down, with a headbutt to finish it off.

Takato began stepping back to assess the situation, feeling himself low. Seeing Henderson swinging a leg at the clone, and their enemies depleting, the hermit decided that it would be best to try and rush away from the clone. As to keep the distance between himself and the clone, as he fled, he'd throw qi projectiles at it.

Faelnir gritted his teeth as he received a bash and a stab from Senya. With a few shaky motions the Elf tried to find a new stance. He spat out blood onto the dirt and pointed his blade towards Senya in a challenging manner, oblivious to the fact that she was in fact retreating. "I'll make a fine slave out of y-" His words were cut short as Henderson slammed into him, leaving only a few panicked yells just before he was killed.

Shadow Seriphine, growing more wounded and weary by the minute, gritted her teeth as Seriphine and Vincent pressed on, followed by some of the others. Faelnir's manifestation had been killed and so had the hollows-turned-thralls, leaving her to fight alone. As her blade retreated from Seriphine's she cursed in the Elven language; "[Foolish whore! I would have made all mortals tremble in response to your name. I would fulfill your utmost ambitions and dreams- even those you feared so long ago. The world above would learn to fear the Elves once more. Your legacy could change the world.]"

She hunched down and prepared herself for another strike. "[Look where guilt and shame has taken you. There is nothing but death left for you. Do you not fear that?]

Seriphine narrowed her eyes. "[I do not seek council from a creature whose sole reason for existing is to steal from others. What I've done, what I haven't done and what I will do is not of your concern. Now silence yourself demon, for you are not worthy of this language.]"

The Shadow snickered.
"Then perish."

"We did discuss the matter of Ergran's death, monsieur," Mariette replied after Cassandra. "While I cannot see us debating the merits of every action we take henceforth, it may be prudent to decide now who will lead this group, and follow their judgement in times of uncertainty... within reason, of course." She fished another rock out of the dirt and examined it, finding it utterly unremarkable. She was already growing bored of this barren landscape, and with another windup she hurled it at another of the red splotches.

"Many who have tried to study this region have perished, hence why there is so little to go on about here. So yes, this region is much more volatile than the rest of the abyss. Though I must admit some aspects of it are intriguing to me... such as that tree." Venextos replied to Cassandra as he pointed towards the blackened bark in the distance. "Does it serve a grander purpose? Or perhaps it is nothing more than strange flora here?"
