Multiple Settings Horizon: New Dawn (Open)

Deadwood Deer

Ten Thousand Club
In ages long past, the Old Ones succumbed to their wickedness, and we're destroyed, leaving behind their ruins. The world recovered in their absence. And to us were left the splendors of creation; beasts of earth, water, air, and steel. It is one thing to hunt a beast, it is another to hunt a machine. You must be humble, and respect their power.

Your mother has told you this or something similar many times since you were small. A bedtime fable to remind you that the Nora have survived this long only because because they follow the All-Mother's teachings. But what are you supposed to do when the machines are growing stronger, and your people are pressed further and further away from her teachings in the struggle to survive?

Welcome to the Embrace, home of the Nora tribe! You are a young adult preparing to enter the Proving and become a Brave. Whether you were born an Outcast or part of the tribe, whatever your goals, passing the Proving will make you a full member of the tribe, with full privileges and freedom to go beyond the gate.
Those who pass the Proving will become Braves. But the winner, the one who crosses the finish line first, receives a Boon from the high matriarchs. Any wish you have, if they can, they will grant it.

But the tribe is in danger. Recently, Corrupted machines are becoming more common as Corruptors appear more and more. Where are they coming from? And why are they attacking?
Welcome to my Horizon: Zero Dawn game! I just picked it up a short while ago and instantly fell in love with the world of Horizon. In order for this game to work, I have made a few changes, however.

For starters, there will be a GMPC. This is not the main character, but a plot device, as much of the Horizon world is very open and devoid of people. We are all main characters, the GMPC is a kind of backup plan in case the story falls headfirst onto the pause button.

Through the GMPC the first three Focuses you players can access will come. You'll need a Focus in order to interact with many of the machines, but a Focus is not needed in order to do everything.

Any machine beast can be Overridden, and any beast you can Override, you can mount, so long as it is at least the size of a Strider or larger. However, in order to Override, you will need two things: an Override Key, and the appropriate Override codes.

Focuses, Override Keys, and Override Codes, can be obtained multiple ways. They are all extremely useful for investigation, dealing with beasts, and travel.

Focuses can be obtained with a small chance from Old World Ruins. Focuses found here are considered Blank and once you claim it, it responds only to you. A Focus can also be obtained from NPCs that possess them, although you will need someone with a Focus of their own to reset the Focus into the Blank state. There is also a chance that Focuses taken from NPCs might be damaged in some way.

Override Keys can also be found in Old World Ruins. Just like with the Focus, once you claim it, it's locked so that only you can use it. Similarly, unless instructed otherwise, machines overridden by your Key will not obey instructions from or attack other humans.

Override Codes can be obtained exclusively from specific Old World Ruins. There are only two copies of each Override Code that can be obtained. Override Keys start with the codes for Striders, Watchers, and interfacing with Tallnecks. Additionally, I will roll a dice to determine what additional codes, if any, it may have. Rolled codes don't affect the number of copies of codes available.

Machine Maintenance
Every Overridable machine will need maintenance once you take control of it. If it is damaged, it will need repairs, when fuel is low, it will need more, when it's weapons run low on ammunition, it will need to restock, and so on. All of these are possible to be taken care of.
For example, creatures like Striders produce Blaze, which they use as fuel, by grazing. Knock off a canister and you've got some gas. Scrappers and similar creatures that break down destroyed machines carry large amounts of metal to repair machines, although you will need to learn how, first. Certain combinations of machines (or parts thereof if you happen to be mechanically inclined and have the knowledge and tools, which can be obtained), can be used to produce ammunition.
It is not possible to produce entirely new machines, but your machines can be customized. For example, how about putting some armor over that Blaze canister so your Sawtooth doesn't explode? Maybe you want to repaint your Strider so it can be told apart from other machines?

All of this is possible, if you learn how.

----------------------[/+\]----------------------

The weapons system is very similar to the game. Bows, spears, slings, tripcasters, etc. Occasionally heavy weaponry will drop from certain machines, but ammunition is limited and it is unwieldy as all getout.
All the ammunition types remain the same, however you don't need special subtypes of a weapon in order to fire them. For example, you don't need a War Bow to shoot electric arrows, but the more powerful bow will increase damage and range of your arrows.
Starting characters will have their pick of an additional secondary weapon, tool, or trap setup to their Bow and Spear. It can be anything, as long as it's not some kind of gun. And of course, it is up to you in order to produce or trade ammunition for it. As time goes on, and you get stronger or have a mount to carry this additional weaponry, you will be able to acquire more and stronger weapons and carry more ammunition.

Here is the Character Template: PM to me your completed sheet and once it is approved you can post it in the main character thread.

Name:
Gender:
Age: (16-22, seeing as you are young enough to attempt the Proving)
Appearance: (Ideally an image as well as a description, however whatever works for you)
Personality: (You can either list 6 traits or do paragraphs)
Bio:
Equipment: (This is where you list your weapons, tools, potions, etc.)
Specialty: (Perhaps you are better at swinging your spear than shooting your bow? Maybe you have a tinkerer's mind, and can figure out how to best salvage from a machine? Maximum of two)
Shortcomings: (Where do you suck? Maybe you put lots of power behind your arrows, but you can't aim for diddly. Maybe you're a strong fighter, but you can't climb very well? Minimum of two)
Extra: (Sexual orientation, major life goals, etc. Basically anything that doesn't fit above)

And for that one person who is going to ask, I am considering some of the secrets, like the Shield Weaver outfit. I'm just working out an appropriately difficult task to find and obtain such things.

I’ll get on that character, are we restricted to being Nora or can we be remnants of the Carja Red Raids?
