The first day of school went along quite nicely. The new principal giving his little speech for the students, letting them know about the changes that they had probably already noticed. Everything was clean, new and the students were… different. They weren’t an all-boys school anymore. Most were excited as they barely saw any girls in their lives, hormones going up to a next level for some. Almost as if they became animals. It was amusing and disgusting to see at the same time. Hell, Jun would even bet that one got a nosebleed from seeing a girl up close. The trees were in full bloom with cherry blossoms which made it a whole picturesque domain. People who passed by even took a picture of the beautiful scenery. Perhaps this principal wasn’t as stupid as the other ones, actually making the school attractive for people to come here. At least now, he didn’t need to feel embarrassed to mention his school when somebody would ask about it.

Despite the several interesting viewing spots, a great deal of students had their eyes fixated on Jun. Feeling the stares practically burning holes into his body. It was that bad… But it was to be expected with the number of new students arriving here. They got to study with one of the most popular idols in Japan. Avoiding eye contact with any of them as he didn’t want to talk to them. This was a place where he had to study, not to create any more unnecessary rumors going on about him. As long as they wouldn’t jump on him on the spot that would already be a blessing. Only putting his attention on the principal until the speeches ended and the students were to leave for their classrooms where more information was to be distributed amongst the students.

Making his way to his designated class 3-A. He was a senior so he only had to put up with this for one more year. He still didn’t know if he wanted to go to college or not, but it would be a hassle to combine it with his work as an idol. He could take some kind of leave for three years but that would be a stupid thing to ask as he would probably be forced to leave then sooner or later. What was worse… his unit (Raven) could disband. The mere thought of that made shivers run up his spine. He absolutely wanted to avoid that at any cost. After all, he made it this far due to hard work, blood, sweat and tears. Also, he liked his members [see cs Jun] and they got along pretty well. Kenji was in charge of dancing, having quite the strong impact on people. Yuki was in charge of the visuals of the group, honestly that guy was just too cute… And Jun was the lead singer who captivated those who listened with his voice.

The school didn’t require a uniform, they just weren’t allowed to dress “daringly”. This was probably one of the first high schools that didn’t have a uniform which was a nice change of pace. Because of this, Jun could just wear what he was most comfortable in. Despite his outfit not being that spectacular, he still felt like he overdressed himself for school. Perhaps he shouldn’t have worn the biker jacket after all… It was not that cold so just the sweated would have been good enough. Because of that, he left the jacket on his chair, hoping that nobody would do some weird stuff with it. Or let alone steal it.

Once classes were done for the morning. The midday bell rang, letting the students go and grab some food. Because afterwards the “events” would take place which mainly consisted of innocent games. Being thankful that Yuki wasn’t here since that guy could make any game lewd. Honestly, that kid was too much at times… Slipping through the crowds which wasn’t that easy as he was practically one of the tallest students there. It didn’t help that the average height for high schoolers in Japan [males] was about 170cm. Yet he still managed to get to the cafeteria safely as he walked too fast to be stopped by anyone. Not even a teacher would get in his way to get some food as he was starving. Not having eaten breakfast this morning.

His eyes roamed over the blackboard and decided to get Set D: Gyudon [beef bowl]. It seemed like it was being made on the spot for some parts. The smell filling the cafeteria already. Making Jun almost drool over it. Within a few minutes, he got his meal and went to an empty spot where he could eat his lunch in peace. At least that was what he hoped. He didn’t mind anyone joining him as long as he wasn’t bothered too much.

First of day of school was interesting. The new principal was opening the school up to a few girl students. Yukio was already getting ideas as his eyes surfed the crowd. He had quite a few girls looking at him and couldn't help but put on a little show for them. When the speech was over he was bombarded with girls. And he enjoyed the attention, as well as showing off that he was better looking than half the student body. Yukio threw a few compliments here and there until it was time to head off to class. He made sure to seem reluctant to leave to make the girls seem like he really liked them. But really he was already bored of their intentions.

He made his way to his class 3-A. When he found out Jun Okada was in this classroom the boy filled with glee. He loved bother Jun, he don't know what it was about the other guy but there was something that kept bringing them together in hilarious ways. Classes went by and then it was time for lunch. He went in line, looking around for Jun and when he spotted him a grin graced his face. He adjusted his glasses and took his curry rice he told the lady he wanted and made a beeline for Jun. Of course, naturally he stopped a few times by some girls who he excused himself from.

Once he made it to the table Jun was at he placed his tray down alittle harder than normal to announce his presence. Cleared his throat and dramatically sat the table. "OH Junnie! Today was horrible... so many girls and only one of me." They weren't friends at all, but they were more than acquaintances. You could say Yukio was like a annoying fly that wouldn't go away. Yukio loved to pester his 'friend' it amused him to no end.

It had been a very hectic week for Norman leading up to the opening ceremony of school. He only had a basic understanding of Japanese so instead he picked up sign language and pretended to be deaf. This allowed for less misunderstandings and thankfully less people talking with him. The other problem was immigrating into the country. Norman had brought multiple rifles, bows, and pistols for use in competition, and he thought the customs official was going to blow a fuse. It very nearly ended up with Norman being arrested, but thankfully his grandfather had showed up to corroborate his claim and the paperwork Norman brought with him was validated. Now successfully registered his guns were allowed to be taken to his grandparents home in the Kumamoto Prefecture. Though Norman was willing to commute his grandparents insisted that he live in Tokyo. It didn’t make to Norman but he didn’t say anything and took the apartment in Tokyo. Apparently his grandparents were quite important as not only did they give him a very nice apartment they also enrolled him into some school in the area.

Norman attended the ceremony in an all weather coat, jeans, and a grey shirt. He did everything he could to blend into the background and not be noticed, and for once it seemed to be working. His heavily Japanese features had caused him a bit of bullying in America, but at least here it was easier. No one looked at him twice here. He managed to gleam some information that apparently some sort of celebrity was attending though his thoughts about that were quickly interrupted by the squealing of girls as they almost trampled him in order to go talk to another, admittedly quite handsome student.

With that crisis averted it was time to find his classroom 3-A. Norman has argued that he didn’t need to finish his senior year and that the money he made in competitions was more than enough to live a comfortable life, but his grandparents weren’t having it.
From the little Norman had seen today the Japanese school system was drastically different than the American one, and quite frankly that was something Norman was thankful for.
Once it was time for lunch Norman picked a nice secluded table and began unpacking his lunch. His family had always preached about self sufficiency and now Norman knew it came from grandpa. It didn’t take long for Norman’s spot for be invaded by another person, but he seemed to be hiding out as well so he just ignored him and left him alone. It wasn’t until another student called out to ‘Junnie’ that Norman even looked up from his meal. This one was loud, and talked too fast for Norman to catch everything he said, but they seemed to know each other. Hopefully the area wouldn’t get much rowdier or Norman might just have to seek refuge somewhere else.

Xuefeng nibbled on a bit of manju as he walked through the halls on the way to the cafeteria. Just before that, it was daifuku, and just before that, it was senbei, and so on and so forth. Nobody seemed to care that he appeared to have a near endless supply of snacks hidden in his bag. Nobody seemed to care that it was a rather strange and unusual sight. Nobody seemed to even notice. At least, none of the old students did. The new students, however, most definitely did notice, and they were easy to pick out by their increasingly incredulous stares as the short boy pulled out another treat to munch on.

It was the first day of another year of high school.

Xuefeng slipped into the cafeteria, flashing a small smile towards the kitchen staff, who smiled back. He'd sometimes help out with cooking whenever they got overwhelmed with orders, so they had a pretty favorable impression of him. A quick glance around and he could already spot Jun and Yukio with their usual shenanigans. They weren't close enough to be considered friends, but they were on good enough terms with each other.

Regardless, the young man sat at the table, giving what hopefully would be seen as a friendly smile to the two, as well as the unfamiliar face sitting there with him, before unpacking his lunch. In case you couldn't already tell, food was a passion of his, so it shouldn't be much of a surprise to see that his bento was as amazing as you'd expect. The first layer contained three side dishes: isobeage, fried cod, and dried tuna. The next one had bacon and onion miso soup. The true star of this portable bento, however, is the seaweed rice portion. With tsukudani hidden within two layers of white rice, topped with seaweed extract gelled into a spherical shape and accompanied by kuzu sauce, it's a bento that he and his little sister had a lot of fun making.

Needless to say, he dug in with much gusto.

Just as he got the first few bites in, an annoying person decided to join him. Yukio. The rich kid who thought he could buy anything with money. The type Jun pretty much disliked to the core. He scoffed at the other yet the food was more important now. He wouldn’t know what other time he’d get another decent meal to eat. Especially as his work started to increase as well. It wouldn’t be unusual if he had to skip a day here and there because of it. It already happened in the past and it wouldn’t get any better for the time being. Not when they were reaching the top of the entertainment business. He even received proposals for acting roles. He was interested in one particular. “Then go to them… Shoo.” He waved the other off as if Yukio had become a dog.

In the corners of his eyes, Jun noticed a figure who he hadn’t seen in the school before. He looked… average despite having foreign features. But since Jun wasn’t one to go off to someone as it was too troublesome, he just let the guy do his thing. If they had to talk, they would, but only when necessary. Hell, he would have preferred the silent guy to join them than this barking posh dog who didn’t know how to shut the hell up. If he could only tie him up with duct tape on his lips. Oh, how much he would have enjoyed the silence. And his food. Still shoving the food down as he wanted to get it over with. There went his savoring the flavor plan.

Shoving down his food didn’t have a good effect on him but his plate was getting emptier fast. Just then, another student joined in their shenanigans. Xuefeng if he was right. The guy could cook that was proven from the mere sight of the bento box that was placed upon the table. It looked delicious to say the least about it. Taking the last scoop of food in, he couldn’t help but to still feel a sense of hunger as he looked at the male’s box. Almost resembling an animal who was watching his prey intently. About to charge in the moment he had the chance. However, he knew he couldn’t just do that. So instead he asked: “Can I have a bite?”

When Jun decided to speak to him this time, it made him falter abit. Only because few times he encountered Jun during reconstruction of the school, he was blatantly ignored. He gathered himself quickly, he wasn't really expecting a response. Though that scoff earlier was expected. "Oh Junnie, how could you throw a friend to wolves like that." He placed the back of his left hand on his forehead in a dramatic motion. Holding it until he noticed some kid glancing at them. How could Yukio not notice this rather... average looking young man? There was something about his features... Yukio turned his attention back to Jun. "You know, I could share with you. All you got to do..." He trailed off as another student joined them, he think his name was Xuefeng or something. Yukio's eyes trailed down to the young mans' bento box. Xuefeng smiled at him before he unpacked his lunch. Yukio narrowed his eyes, though the other boy didn't see it. How dare he sit next to him not offer the delicious food to Yukio? He was going to say something when the smell hit him. Oh god.

The smell was divine to say the least. His eyes looked at the first layer which contained three side dishes. The next layer was bacon and onion miso soup. And finally his eyes were graced with seaweed rice with something hidden between layers of rice. He wasn't quite sure what it was. To top it all off, literally, it was topped with looked to be seaweed extract. All of sudden his own food paled in comparison. Suddenly not appetizing. Jun spoke in the silence. 'Can I have a bite?'

Of course it was like Jun to ask. Yukio just took what he wanted, but at this moment he understood something. Jun looked too eager to have some of that food, and if he just took it. That might set the older male off. But then again he delighted in annoying Jun, probably too much. So he did the next best thing. "Me first. If he gets some, I should too." He wasn't really asking.

Norman shrunk back at the appearance of yet another person at the table. Despite the sudden onslaught of people he was surprised and thankful that they seemed to respect his desire for peace and quiet. He set back to work on his own meal, a venison burger he had made for himself that morning. His grandfather was apparently just as much of an avid hunter as he was. He still wasn’t sure what it was that his grandparents did but going by the motorcade that came to transport Norman to Tokyo he was confident it was military or politics. If he had to make a guess his grandfather was a military officer and his grandmother some sort of politician. There was a staunch no English rule in the house in order to make Norman learn Japanese so he wasn’t quite at conversational yet, but from the pictures and awards he found he was pretty sure he was correct.

While he was thoroughly enjoying his own meal Norman couldn’t help but stop and stare at the food that Xhefeng had brought with him. He started to gesture and sign at Xhefeng complimenting his food and asking him if he made it himself.

Himari was awake before the sun was up as usual. She did her normal morning routine of taking a short run around the neighborhood while listening to a book on tape, bathing, and making a healthy breakfast of fresh salmon, rice and diced tomatoes. She had already laid out her complete outfit the night before. This outfit consisted of a white blouse, a black skirt, black tights and black ankle boots. It was very odd for her to be able to wear whatever she wanted to school so she was forced to go shopping over the weekend for things to wear. The lady at the shop had told her this would be the best option but she felt it was a bit too much. Still, she shrugged it off and got dressed. She didn't have time to change her mind now.
Mari walked to school as the world was waking up. She had a small study booklet in her hand and was going over new vocab terms. Yes, it was the first of school and they haven't even started learning yet but you could never be too ambitious! The school was empty when she arrived, she went straight to the faculty room her laminated paper in hand. Once there, she did everything as planned. Went straight up to the teacher in charge of student council and handed him the paper she wrote on why she would be perfect for it. The teacher looked at her dumbfounded and honestly had just told her yes just to get her to go away. She was fine with that though. She achieved her goal just as everyone had started to arrive to school.

By the time lunch came around she had already had pages of notes taken. She made sure to write down every word that came out of the teachers mouth as well as her own input here and there. She made her way to the lunch room, her bento box in hand with all the other students. It was kind of odd for her to be in an environment with so many male students, especially so many attractive ones. Her body betrayed her and skipped a beat as she spotted a table of extremely attractive males all eating together. She was very outgoing and never had trouble approaching people but she thought best of it this time. She hadn’t had the most female friends at her last school and by all the stares they were getting by the female human body she would definitely be hated if she approached them. She settled for at the table next to theirs.

Mari had made 5 containers of food in total. She in no way needed that much of it but it was the first day and anyone could have forgotten to bring something so she made extras just incase. It would have definitely been a way to make friends but most of the girls had stayed clear of her so far. She had heard some of them whisper things like “teachers pet” and “show off”. She was used to this but had kind of hoped it would be different this time. She let out a long sigh as she opened the different containers of food.

Xuefeng blinked up at two of the other students at the table, chopsticks hovering in the air as he was about to take another bite of his bento. Jun and Yukio stared at his lunch with a predatory gaze, reminiscent of a beast about to pounce on it's unsuspecting prey. Alternating his gaze between them and his food, he finally came to a decision. Placing his chopsticks down, he took the lid of the bento box and removed another container hidden under it. He took off the cover to reveal what was inside: kuzu sauce, made from the same seaweed-tuna broth he used for the fried cod—just triple concentrated. Finally, he poured it over the, still, piping hot rice.

The young man then picked up a bit of the seaweed rice with his chopsticks before turning towards Yukio. He coaxed the other to open his mouth before rather unceremoniously stuffing the morsel inside. Turning towards Jun, he went on to do the same to him. He wore a sweet, yet cheeky smile as the two munched on their share of food, when the other student who was sitting with them caught his attention.

Munching on what looked to be a venison burger—he absentmindedly wondered what it would taste like—the unfamiliar face began making gestures towards his food. Halfway through the set, it registered in his mind that the other was using sign language. Thankfully, he knew enough of it from one of his family restaurant's long time customers, who suffered from hearing loss. You could see the exact second he understood what was being conveyed, as red eyes quickly averted away and an endearing blush coated his cheeks. Shakily, he signed his thanks, confirmed that, yes, he made it himself, and asked if he, too, would like a bite.

Chi

Shi Cafe
Chi, despite it being the first day of school, decided to skip his morning classes. After all, his younger siblings always came before the old coots that normally inhabited the school. Though in their defense they were only doing there job. After dropping his siblings off and making sure they were settled in, he went to Shi Cafe, the most popular local cafe in the city, and the place he works. Unlocking the backdoor, he saw an odd bag lying on the counter, accompanied by a note. Reading it, he realized it was from the owner and manager, Shina. An extremely nice lady, Chi saw her as an older sister, considering she was only in her late 20s, and he religiously worked hard to keep her smiling. After all, just like him, she's been through a lot.

Hiya, Chi!

I knew you were going to show up at some point this morning, so I packed a lunch for you! After all, you need to keep your strength up!

And go to school, it's important that you get a good education!

<3 Shina

Chi opened the bag and saw a bento box inside, as well as another note

By the way, this is a new recipe I'm trying out. Once you come in after school, let me know what you think about it and we might start serving it

Chi sighed. Although Shina was an amazing cook, all of her "creations" tend to end up with someone in the hospital or bathroom. He opened the box and immediately became wary once he saw that it looked completely normal, That's not a good sign...

Shrugging, Chi took the box and headed on his way.

At the Cafeteria
Once he made it to the school, Chi went straight to the cafeteria, which he would have done even if it wasn't lunchtime. Waving at everyone he passed, he still tried to sit alone to properly judge Shina but was unsuccessful due to all of the tables being taken to some degree. As such, he decided to just sit at the table with the least amount of people: The one with the girl with a bunch of food.

He was still surprised that someone new bought the school, and even more surprised that the new headmaster opened it up to girls. After all, the school has had an overall bad reputation ever since the incident a few years after it first opened, but any change has to be a good change in this case, right?!?!

"Good morning, though I guess I should say afternoon." Chi said as he sat down on the opposite side of the table, "Do you mind if I sit here?"

However, once he saw her face, he immediately felt a sense of deja vu, Why does she look so familiar?

He tried to rack his brain for a reason but he couldn't place his finger on it. Mentally shrugging, he just opened the bento he picked up earlier and opened it. Picking up his chopsticks, he tried to pick up the food ... and all of it came out at once, in a block of different foods stuck together. The sight caused Chi to chuckle out loud, "So that's what's wrong with it."

Chi immediately started taking notes on all the reasons why foods should not stick together the way Shina's creation did today, quickly getting mildly lost in his thoughts. But then his stomach growled, I knew I should have packed myself a lunch, too. Maybe I should go to the cooking club and see if I can make something edible...

Himari tapped her chin deciding what she should dig into first. The 5 containers consisted of; Rice with seaweed flakes, 6 rice balls(half with salmon half with pickled plum), Small pieces of fried chicken on top of pieces of lettuce, a salad consisting of shredded lettuce, carrots and snap peas, and a container of assorted fruits. It wasn’t the most extravagant meal but each item was made with love and care the night before. As she made it she just dreamed about sitting at table with lots of people and sharing all her creations. They would chat and laugh and be best friends forever. But… there she was sitting all alone.
Mari was about to let out a sigh when someone spoke up in front of her. She snapped her head up and almost did a double take.
“Chi…?” she spoke softly. Too quiet for anyone but herself to hear. There was no denying it. That was definitely the same glum face she knew as a child.
“Chi!” she exclaimed loudly this time. Probably much more loudly than she should have. She couldn’t blame him for not recognizing her. She had definitely had a growth spurt and her hair was much longer than the cropped look she kept as a child.
“It’s me, Himari! I had no idea you ended up going to this school! It’s been so long!” She was honestly over the moon ecstatic. Chi had been her first true friend and if shes being honest, her first crush too. They were so close back in elementary school. She was devastated when they ended up going to different schools. Now, she actually knew someone at this new school. A bright smile was on her face. She was about to take a bite of a rice ball when she noticed him pick up his meal. To her amazement it all stuck together if it was plastic.
“You can’t eat that! She exclaimed. You’re going to get sick or something. Please eat this.” She urged pushing the containers in the middle of them.
“How were your classes so far today?” She asked taking a bite.

Xiu Lei, resident thief and one of the 'bad ones' at the school. He was one of the ones who always smoked in the bathrooms and skipped class. Heck he even had few scraps with teachers and students alike. He would have skipped out on the first day of school but he wanted to see what this new Principal was about. What his name? Rui something chi. Hell, Xiu didn't really care. He half listened as this man gave his speech for the students detailing the changes in the school. New furniture, cleaned bathrooms, a pretty garden and girls. Yay. He rolled his eyes and scoffed.

He noticed many of the boys exuded excitement. He even caught one or two drooling, and one with a nose bleed. Seriously? Others making vulgar whispers which disgusted Xiu to no end. He took a deep breath before he did something that would probably get him suspended or even expelled. He averted his eyes to a cherry blossom petal flying in the wind. He looked at the trees which were in full bloom. It was beautiful really, wasted, but beautiful. It was time to see what this Principal was made of. Would he just be like the ones before him? Or would he actually try to change this dump and succeed?

He sneered at one of the girls who looked she would approach him. His eyes translating very clearly, DO NOT APPROACH. She was probably one of those girls who like guys who fall on the bad side of the spectrum. He shuddered to think about it. He slipped away from the crowd to go smoke a joe (cigarette). This whole thing was all so boring. He sighed as he went to his usual spot. He waited to make sure no one had followed him then pulled out the last cigarette in the pack he had on him. He had a couple of minutes before all the students went into their designated classrooms.

Xiu decided he would actually attend his classes today, and just today. He might show up late but he'll be there. Once he wasted enough time, he waited a bit to air out before heading inside. He deliberately walked slow to his classroom. The hall was all but empty, a few new students here and there and a teacher or two. Xiu stood outside his class for a few seconds then headed inside, ignoring the teacher and taking a seat in the back by the window.

Once morning classes were over he made his way over to the cafeteria. He stood in line and his eyes scanned the blackboard filled with menu items. Then he remembered he brought his own. How silly of him to forget. Xiu had three rice balls filled with pickled umeboshi (salted plum) with a wrap of nori (seaweed), with Karaage (fried chicken) and a roasted Japanese sweet potatoe with Miso butter all over it. His eyes scanned the cafeteria, he saw Shao Xuefeng sitting with the resident idol Jun Okada, annoying rich kid Yukio Yamato and... a face he didn't recognize. There were two too many people at the table, referring to Jun and Yukio. He had nothing against Jun but Yukio... he couldn't stand that guy.

Then his eyes found Chinou Tenshi, his coworker and one of his rare friends. The other being Xuefeng. Chinou seemed to be sharing food with some girl. What was this? Something he could tease Chinou about later? Xiu slowly made his way to the table and sat down next to Chinou. He eyed the girl, she seemed...nice and she was kind of cute. Xiu looked over at the bento that was pushed slightly aside by Chinou. Something was off about it, his face went alittle pale. Was that made by Shina? Xiu placed his bento in the middle as well and opened it up. Nothing super fancy just some of his favorites.

"Hey Chinou, going to introduce me to the lovely lady?" He said playfully.

Norman smiled and signed, “ I would love to try some. Here have some deer jerky. I brought it with me all the way from. America!” Norman was perhaps forgetting the fact that most people aren’t kind to foreigners. Norman had heard from the internet that the Japanese were especially distrustful of foreigners. It was only after he had outed himself as an American and whispered an expletive under his breath as he shrunk back towards himself as if to hide. He had been trying to blend into the background yet he can’t go one conversation without pointing out his foreign nature! His peace and quiet last year of high school would be replaced by bullying and discrimination! Norman didn’t know what else to do but silently plead with Xuefeng not to reveal that information, “ Please forget I said that! I just want to finish my schooling in peace!” Norman began to visibly squirm in a restless display of anxiety. He wanted to make a friend, but he wasn’t sure how to go about doing that anymore. For the past two years he’s been all about focusing his accuracy and precision with his weapons. All to bring fortune to his home and make a living with his passions.

Cafeteria

"Chi..."

Chi froze once heard the nickname. After all, only a handful of people were allowed to called him that.

"Chi!"

He looked back up at the girl when realizations hit him like a truck, No ... Is it really?!?!

“It’s me, Himari! I had no idea you ended up going to this school! It’s been so long!”

Chi, for the first time at school, genuinely smiled. He never expected to see Himari again after they ended up going to different schools, much less sit down at a table with her by pure luck. He looked at her hair in awe, Mom ... you've always wanted her to grow it out like this...

Before he could say anything to her, she pushed her containers of food to the middle of the table, “You can’t eat that! You’re going to get sick or something. Please eat this.”

Looking back down at Shina's creation, he chuckled, "Yeah, I guess you're right, Mari!"

As he set Shina's bento to the side, he looked over the spread Himari brought and grinned, "I definitely can't expect you to finish all of this yourself, either. It's enough for a small army, don'cha think?"

As he picked up a rice ball as well, he heard Mari ask, “How were your classes so far today?”

Chi's mind went blank once he heard the question.

Classes.

Uh oh.

Chi immediately remembered that Mari was always a model student, so he wasn't quite sure how to tell her that he skipped his morning classes on the first day of school. Fortunately, his savior came in the form of another of his closest friends, "Hey Chinou, going to introduce me to the lovely lady?"

Chi glanced in Xiu's direction, still smiling.

"Yeah. This is Himari Sato, my best friend from ... before the accident..." As he finished the sentence, his smile and voice both staggered. He's accepted the death of his parents, but that doesn't mean he doesn't feel the pain of loss every time he thinks about them. Putting a smile back on his face, Chi turned back to Himari, ribbing Xiu as he spoke, "This here is Xiu Lei. He'll want you to think he's a bad guy, but I can assure you it's part of an act."

Eating another rice ball, they are one of his favorite foods after all, he continued, "You should come to my house sometime this week, Mari. Mashi and Kyou would love to see you."

Himari had her mouth filled to the brim with rice when a new guy walked up. He was so casual with Chi.
“They must be close,” she thought. She would have to get used to not knowing much about Chi’s life. They had known everything about each other as kids. She started to lose herself in her thoughts. Remembering back to exactly when they first met. She recalled the day really well. After her mother passed and her father through himself into his work they had to move around quite often. She had practically no friends. Having to move to the next area before anyone got the chance to know her. Her father was eventually called out to America to do business there. Mari was only 8 at the time but she was shipped off to live with her frail and ill grandmother. This was the first time she had the chance to stay in a place long enough to make friends. This was also the first time she realized how hard it was to really make friends. It was weeks into the school year and not a single person had talked to her. She was sitting at the lunch table all alone, eating the bento she had made herself when a boy sat down next to her out of nowhere. “Can I have a bite?” were his simple words. That’s where their friendship started and it grew into so much more. She had thought of Chi’s family as her own. They had helped her through so much and she missed them greatly. The thought made her kind of sad but she was sucked out of it by this new guy referring to her as a “lovely lady”. She practically choked on her rice at the words. He was definitely not someone she would usually find herself hanging out with. They seemed like polar opposites. Yet, she was never one to judge people on first impressions. Especially since, Chi assured her of his kind nature.
“Hello, I’m Himari! It’s nice to meet you!” she followed after Chi’s introduction. She couldn’t help but notice him mentioning an accident but felt that it wasn’t the proper time to mention it.
“How do you know Chi?” She asked, turning her head to the side. She turned her head back to Chi.
“I would love to see Mashi and Kyou! I can only imagine how big they have gotten.” She gushed remembering back their tiny selves. “Oh and your parents! I missed their cooking so much.” She continued on, taking another way to big bite of her riceball. Her cheeks puffed up like a chipmunk as she chewed.

When Chinou mentioned he knew Himari Sato before the accident, he instinctively patted his friend on his back briefly. Letting him know he knew what he was referring to. Xiu only knew what accident Chinou was referring to because he told him once. Over one of those bonding moments guys who are starting to get close to each other. He didn't want to say anything because he know it pained his friend to think about them. Chinou says he's gotten over it, but Xiu didn't think he truly did. Though he never brought it up, because he wouldn't want someone bringing up the death of his sister.

All sympathy went out the window when Chinou told Himari he was putting up a act to be 'bad.' Xiu glared as if his eyes could kill. Touché, he thought, touché. He opened his mouth to say something but Himari asked him how he knew Chinou. He thought about the time he met Chinou for the first time. "We work at the same café." He told her simply, then she moved on to converse with Chinou. She seemed satisfied with his short answer. Even if she wasn't he wasn't just about to open up to her. Being Chinou's past best friend meant nothing to him. That was his spot now. Was he jealous? No.

Xiu grabbed his chopsticks and grabbed him a piece of the Japanese sweet potatoe and stuffed it in his mouth. Ah... so delicious. He then grabbed a riceball and started working on that when Himari mention Chinou's parents. Fuck. He stopped mid bite and looked side ways at Chinou, this wasn't good. Chinou's face looked blank but he knew what was going on behind that mask. Immediately he pretended to choke on the food in his mouth. Gasping for air he dropped the chopsticks and gripped the table while his hand closest to Chinou grabbed his shirt. How undignified. Hopefully his little act will distract them both from what was asked.

Chi smiled as he watched the small interaction between Xiu and Mari: two of his favorite people.

Continuing to eat, he sat quietly as Mari continued speaking, “I would love to see Mashi and Kyou! I can only imagine how big they have gotten.”

Chi nodded. They were about twice the size they were back then. Granted they were also almost twice the age they were as well. Thinking of his little munchkins always brightened his mood. The only thing that did the opposite was thinking of his pa-

"Oh and your parents! I missed their cooking so much.”

Chi's smile immediately dropped, along with the rice ball he was eating, as his face went blank. Before anything could happen, he saw Xiu's predicament out of the corner of his eye. Realizing within a few seconds what was going on, Chi immediately sprung into action, his training allowing the movements to come as smoothly as possible. Chi slipped behind Xi, wrapping his arms around Xiu, and began the Heimlich Maneuver, "Don't worry, I got you."

Once Xiu dislodged whatever he was choking on, Chi looked around worried that someone might have seen Xiu. After all, Xiu did have a reputation to maintain, but fortunately, everyone seemed to be preoccupied with their own table events. Next, Chi glanced around, looking for his bag, knowing he always kept an emergency bottle of water in it, but then remembered he left it at home, having planned to not come to school today, Oh well. I'll just grab a bottle of water from a vending machine...

Chi rubbed Xiu's shoulder's, "I'll go grab a bottle of water from the vending area, just in case something else is caught. I'll be back in a minute."

Chi then floated off before Xiu could object, outside of the double doors within a few seconds.

The childish behavior of the rich kid made his eyes roll yet he didn’t pay much attention to that person. He never really called the other by his name, refusing to do so at all times. Even if his life would depend on it. After all, why would he even be with that guy? He wasn’t good for anything! He waited patiently to receive a bite from Xuefeng, the food immediately melting when it touched his tongue, his mouth engulfed with flavor. This guy really knew a thing or two about cooking. Maybe one day he would reach that level, perhaps he could practice when his work wouldn’t be all over the place.

The table next to them also had a rowdy bunch. Talking away with no care in the world, he wondered if they even knew each other. Cleaning up his lunch box, wiping away the food that fell on the table with a paper napkin where a box of it was standing on each table. It seemed like people were now expected to clean up after their mess but there were exceptions of course. He wouldn’t call names but a certain rich kid would avoid doing such thing. Pulling out his cell phone since teachers wouldn’t confiscate them during breaks. Scrolling through his social media to see if anything new was going on. Only seeing some pictures of Yuki eating his lunch which contained a bunch of sweet stuff. It did look good though. Kenji just send a message in private saying: “I’m hella bored… T_T”. Jun chuckled at the message and replied with a sticker.

Lunch time went by in a matter of time, having some last bit of small talk before the bell rang. Indicating that lunch ended. He swiftly went to put it in his backpack before going to the track field where the students were supposed to assemble. It was time for the so-called events the principal had in store for them. It looked like they were going to play some games so not that big of a deal. The amount of people started to increase around him, some plainly staring while others didn’t know how to act around him. The new ones would show this kind of behavior. The others would just go up to him and have a small chat before continuing on.

It seemed like they needed to pair up for the first game. Mukade Kyoso ! A three-legged race to the finish line. They need to run the track field once and try to finish first. Jun looked a bit lost as nobody really came up to him. Sighing as he knew this was going to take an endless time unless he would take action himself. “Anyone who wants to team up with me?” He yelled out, holding a pink ribbon in his hands which was meant to tie their legs together.

Yukio happily accepted the food Xuefeng was giving him. Ah, it was divine. It reminded Yukio of food back home from the family's personal chef. He looked at the food he grabbed early and just pushed it away alittle to let it be known he was not eating it. Yukio didn't notice Norman at all, partly because he was signing, until Xuefeng signed back at the male. He didn't understand what the two were talking about at all. Was Xuefeng blushing? Oh my god, did that other kid just hit on him or something? He let out a disapproving sound at kept glancing between the two. The other man started to squirm and move his hands faster than what he did before. What on earth was going on?

Yukio was distracted by the table next them because the students were getting alittle too excited. He locked eyes with Xiu as he took was seat and immediately turned back around. Yukio made a disgusted face and returned his attention back to his table. Xiu was a thug and he wouldn't associate himself with the likes. Impatiently he slammed his hand the table. He looked between Xuefeng and Norman. "What are you two talking about!?" Yukio didn't like knowing things. Not at all. He heard somebody choking behind but ignored it as he waited for a answer.

Jun started cleaning up his area and Yukio looked at the napkin box, then at the other tables. As if he would stoop so low as to clean up. Let someone else do it. Yukio just pouted at the table as the two kept signing to each other and Jun was ignoring him on purpose. Lunch went by quickly. The students were told earlier today that there would be some events at the track field. So with nothing else to do, he went to the field and just stood there are some scrambled for a partner after being told what the first game was. Yukio was not about to go and ask someone to be his partner, it was beneath him. Then at that moment Jun shouted 'Anyone who wants to team up with me?'

He grinned devishly and made his way over to Jun, preparing to grab that pink ribbon. If he wanted to win, which he did, he knew he had to partner up with Jun. Because that guy knew how to do things.

"Achoo!" a red-haired young man sneezed into the elbow of his unbuttoned, white shirt. Sakura petals flowed through the air, settling on the ground seconds after their departure from the branch. A vista if any were he to say his opinion about it. Yet, unlike the ocean of students trickling through the gates, he was more like a grain of sand that was already on the shore of the academy. "Mmm, that was a good line. I'll have to use that sometime in the future," he murmured to himself, swinging his arms back and forth broom in hand. As part of the school beautification club, Asahi was appointed to keep the facade of the school pristine; and so, he was at the school far before the other students. Would they appreciate his work? Did they know it was a student who cleaned the grounds? Did it particularly matter to him if people noticed? He couldn't say. His emotions were almost as lost on him as they were on others. The only thing he was aware of were the girl students amongst the herd of boys. Denying his interest in them would have been difficult. But, as the last of the students went into the auditorium, he too made his way for the opening ceremony.

The ceremony passed by with a breeze, pleasant at first yet annoying as it dragged on. Asahi noted the popular students, the transfer students, the new students, and the interesting students. Then, there were the midday classes. As it was the first day, nothing of interest occurred. The teacher mainly went over the syllabus and what was to be expected of them. Asahi was in his final year of high school, so he hardly paid attention. His ears would perk up at the mention of rounding, but the rest was rather standard. Before he knew the time, it was lunch. The young man didn't have much time to eat as this was his time to help set up for the after lunch games. He joined the rest of his club at the field, handing out high fives and smiles. It was draining, but he was glad to see them. They dragged out the bag of ribbons, set up the start and finish line, the announcer box, and much more to make everything go smoothly. School beautification was rather vague, but the latest president took the initiative to expand the role the club had in the community. Setting up was just a part of the beautification of school culture is how the president justified their actions. Asahi admired them for that.

The student body meandered their way towards the field. They looked lethargic from the meals they had just consumed, while Asahi felt his rumble in discontent. "Soon, child," he soothed, patting his stomach. He earned a few odd stares. Stares he returned with a gleaming smile which quickly chased them off. Unfortunate as Yamato needed a partner for the race. That was when he heard Jun yell out for a partner. "I'll do-" he stopped mid shout, retracting his reached out hand in hesitance. It looks like Yukio had been faster on the draw. Asahi felt his face burn in embarrassment like when one accidentally waves hi to someone who waved to the person behind you. He still needed a partner though, so he attempted to cool his face and look around. Surely, there must be someone who hadn't a partner yet.

'So, you aren't going to give me deer jerky?' At this point, the blush that dusted Xuefeng's cheeks had already receded, and was instead replaced by a rather dejected expression.

The implications behind the others words hadn't quite registered in the brunette's mind. The fact that the other was a foreigner just seemed insignificant in his eyes—after all, Xuefeng was an immigrant himself. What was more important was the food that was currently being withheld from him. He puffed up his cheeks in petulant annoyance, but was ultimately distracted by Yukio's outburst. He looked over towards the taller teen and flashed him a sheepish grin, looking as apologetic as one could be.

"Ah, sorry, Yukio!"

Lunch seemed to go by in a flash, and the time for the events had come. Xuefeng... didn't really enjoy physical activities like these, or at all actually. His short stature made it difficult to keep up with the rest of the boys his age, so it was kind of a sore spot for him. What's worse was that with a look around, one could quickly tell that he was smaller than even the girls. He grumbled a bit to himself, looking put out by this. He was contemplating the chances of him managing to skimp out on the whole thing entirely when he heard a growl not too far from where he was and froze in place.

Glancing to the left, he was quick to spot the source of the sound: Asahi. Forgetting that he had been planning on skipping, he made his way towards the redhead like a man on a mission. Tapping the other's shoulder, he
gave him a smile before stuffing his hands with the anpan and imagawayaki that he just so happened to have in his bag. It was one thing to skip a meal, it was another thing to try and do exercise hungry—and his nature as a cook wasn't about to let that happen.

"Hello, would you like to be partners?" Xuefeng asked, staring up at him with a hopeful gaze.

Already seriously regretting his choice for shouting if someone wanted to partner up with him the moment he saw Yukio coming his way. A cold shiver running up his entire body as he seriously didn’t want to be stuck with that guy. Please let that thing go somewhere else, please let him trip or get a sudden illness such as the flu which would make him sit out of this game. His face was getting paler with the second as he didn’t see any sign of that happening. Yeah, it was not going to be his day at all if he had to team up with that guy. He’d need to do everything by himself again. Having the feeling that he would get a headache soon if not somebody else would show interest in teaming up.

But then, as if his prayers were heard, a redheaded guy reached out his hand towards the pink ribbon. Jun snapped his hand back from the rich kid and launched towards the more friendly looking one. Wrapping his arms around the male, hugging the other tightly as he had not intention to let go. Receiving a bunch of stares from others due to his actions. He didn’t care. He’d do anything just to be out of the grasp out of the narcist. “I’m all yours.” He said with a relieved tone of voice. Not letting go of the back hug unless the other would make movements to get out of his grip. Resting his head on the redhead his shoulder as he shot dead glares towards the white haired one. “Shoo shoo.” He waved the guy off, indicating that he already found his partner for this game. Hissing almost even.

Though he then realized he might have interrupted Xuefeng, one of the smallest people in this school. “Ah sorry, but I really don’t want my soul to be sucked out by that creature.” He apologized, smiling sheepishly. His grip still didn’t loosen on the redhead as he felt that if he did, he might be trapped by the rich one again. Something he wanted to absolutely avoid.

Yukio was closing in on Jun when someone else thought they could have him, a red head he had no name for. Smirking just as he reached Jun, the bastard yanked the ribbon out of his grasp and practically pounced on the new guy in a back hug. He growled abit, Jun got lucky. No matter there will be other instances to annoy the boy. He rolled his eyes as Jun shoo'd him away. His eyes landed on Xuefeng who had food in his hands out stretched towards the red head, but his hands were now retracting in defeat. Yukio narrowed his eyes on Xuefeng and quickly waltz his way over and placed an arm around his shoulders, and using his free hand to grabbed the anpan. "Hmph"

With that he looked at Xufeng and bit into the anpan. "You're my partner for this." Once again, he wasn't asking but rather telling the short one he was his partner and no one else's. "You.. er we got this." Although he was slightly shorter than Jun, he was still taller than Xuefeng, so the race will be very interesting to say the least. He turned his attention to scan the competition. He could easily see who were his competitors, who were stepping stones and those who were jokes. Now, most of the student's knew the drill, lose the race, get some cash. Simple enough. For the ones who rejected his gift, were the ones to watch for.

Would someone accuse Yukio of cheating? They might. But it's far in figurative war. He chewed his anpan, or rather Xuefeng's anpan, until there was nothing left. Man it was delicious. Yukio wondered how many snacks the little man had on him, and what kind they were. Although Yukio didn't manage to snatch the idol, he managed to snatch the chef. It was still a win, a sad one, but a win none the less.

"Ah, Jun!" Xuefeng exclaimed, looking rather surprised as the idol wrapped his arms around Asahi in an abrupt move.

Just as he was about to ask the bluenette what the problem was, Jun had glared and waved away someone from over his shoulder. The aspiring chef took a quick glance as to who was behind him and immediately caught sight of a certain white-haired teen. The second they made eye contact, understanding immediately flooded his mind. The relationship between the two was about as complementary as dried sardines garnished with strawberry jam, so he could see why the other leaped at the chance of getting a different partner. So when Yukio turned his attention towards the short brunette, he could only accept his fate as lamb to the slaughter.

"Make sure he eats the imagawayaki!" He mouthed towards Jun before letting himself be led away by his newfound partner.

As the taller teen bit into his stolen anpan, Xuefeng had already cycled through the five stages of grief. He supposed it wouldn't be so bad, but he had hope that he'll be able to match the other's strides. Looking at the five-inch difference between the two, however, that hope was dying—and it was dying fast. Shaking away such depressing thoughts, the chef slapped his cheeks a few times and took in a deep breath to calm his nerves.

"I'll do my best to win with you, Yukio." He smiled—that was all he could do now.

As much as he would love to hightail out of here and hide away in the cooking clubroom, he'd hate to leave Yukio without a partner of his own when the only other person he'd choose was taken already. It was at times like these that he cursed his kindheartedness, but there was no going back now.

Norman was surprised by Xuefeng’s apparent disregard of the news that he was in fact a foreigner. Everything he had ever read or found about japan was that they we’re discriminatory towards foreigners, and yet here he was treated with such kindness! By the time Norman had realized that what Xuefeng was more concerned about was the jerky he was more than happy to part with it, especially if it meant making a new friend, but his would be friend seemed easily distracted by the goings on around him and just like that the moment had passed. He would have to look for an opportunity to hand it off to Xuefeng.

Lunch passed by without too much more happening for Norman. He was silently enjoying the Conversations around him as he slowly faded back into the background were he was more comfortable. When the bell rang Norman pretended he didn’t hear and only reacted to what was going as he saw people leaving. He followed his class mates out and watched as everyone got excited about some sort of race. He wasn’t sure if he would get a partner, but a random classmate saw his lost expression and kindly offered to be his partner. After the initial confusion and signing at his classmate they managed to come to a bit of an awkward understanding of how they would function as a team. The boy Norman was partnered with seemed fairly athletic and obviously popular enough to help out the transfer student without worry. Norman was fairly athletic thanks to how many deer he’s had to drag home and process, but he wasn’t that confident in his stamina. He didn’t make an illusions that he would win, but he was just content to participate.
