Hi, 


Just wondering (not sure if this was already answered or not) but I wanted to make sure and ask if our pm's will not be lost? Will all the pm's we have be there after this update?

So assuming that nothing happens in real life, the switch should begin on February 19 (no exact hour yet).


Here are a few things to note:

  • Unlike the august update, your existing RP Urls WILL correctly redirect to the proper format for the upcoming forum software. No need to have to hunt for your content after the switch due to URLs changing.
  • BBCode library will be up and fully functional with a couple of new ones.
  • Followers will not transfer over.
  • We will still have a a color me and dark style (with color me functionality!) and a default style.
  • The site will be insanely faster, thank the dark gods.
  • Post Ratings are a go! (different likes)
  • The site will only be offline for 2-4 days this time around. This is all  mostly due to how fast the import process can transfer all of the site's content into a new platform.
  • As mentioned in the previous announcement, make sure that to save all your blog content if you were one of the few to use that.
  • If you use the book marks feature located here: https://www.rpnation.com/bookmarks/ please make sure to save your bookmarks, we will obviously have a bookmarks functionality but the addon can't import to the other addon. You'll easily find all your bookmarked content again by keeping the URL and just pasting it in your browser, as explained in the first point. At which point you'll be able to bookmark it again using the site's functionality.
  • Sometime before the 19th all inactive HPs should be archived. Active HPs will have a disruption in terms of all the cool functionality. Your HP will become a forum with all your threads in inside of it and subforums. Just like the good old days. Once we are on the new software you can recreate your roles and other neat stuff again.
  • Posts that use HTML will look scary until cleaned up after the move. Make note! PS: BBCode Posts look gorgeous again
  • If you sign in with twitter/facebook you might need to reset your password using the forgotten link and reestablish connection with those services after the move.
  • No Threads/Users/Posts/Content will be lost as usual with these imports across software.

From all over read and understand it seems like you guys have been going through some shit to deal with both the last and this update. To put it lightly.


Just wanted to express thanks to you and all the other staff for keeping up the work so everyone could have the most quality, fun rping experience possible. Appreciate all your hard work!

old roleplays that we had waaay before the update will be automatically fixed?


aka everyone still has access to it?

Will my Roleplay's layout (When you click on the link) change at all? I remember disliking the tab system prior to the switch because it looks so unorganised. I'm mainly worried about the set up I have here, where I have the Main Thread, which shows all of the different threads and has a description for each thread. Will this remain the same (apart from the background image that you confirmed last time won't transfer), and is it recommended to save anything?

The introduction on the main page will probably be lost.  I recommend saving all that text and pictures.  Everything else should be fine.

I'm currently working on a master list of all issued badges to make sure none are left behind.  If, after the update, you find I've missed one (it happens, I'm only human!), feel free to send me a PM and I'll fix it for you.


I've got all of Ghost's smileys saved too. ^33^  Love those kitten-ears!

I'm not sure what you mean by this.  Everyone should have access to everything, except Private Workshop threads and HPs with restricted settings.  (Those settings will be lost at some point, but I believe they'll be available once more after the update.)  Old, inactive roleplays will be moved to Archives; I'm not sure if members access that or not.
 
What exactly do you mean by followers will not be crossed over? Does that mean that we'll lose all of our followers?

Yes.  You can find a list of people you follow here (scroll down 'til you see Members on the left, and click on that).  You'll have to refollow everybody and everything after the update, sorry!

I made a list in my Private Workshop thread.  You can also save them as bookmarks through your browser, or copy/paste them into a Word file or other word processing-type program.

I'm not sure, but I hope so.  They were really helpful for post headers!  We had been looking for a way to do them on IPS, but just didn't find anything before we decided to drop IPS altogether.  If we can find a properly-supported addon for them in xF, we'll likely go with it.
 
This looks like it'll go much better than the last transfer! I've enjoyed IPS but I'm glad we're returning to xF. :) Question: I have a hosted project that's not "active" - in fact, permissions are set so regular members can't actually see it. I've been coming back to it periodically to work on it bc it's a very large project. Will this WIP be archived? I'd prefer if it wasn't because messing with the forum structures and such is, in this case, part of developing it, but I understand the desire to declutter so I'm willing to move all the threads to my private workshop. Link below.
