At the Adventurers' Table: Chapter Fourteen

Wolf Rawrrr

Wolf-Knight
I can't believe old Barathus and his entourage know about the Felane, and in such detail! They must have traveled to errr, the Golden Land (I can't remember the continent name >.<)! Isn't that like, seriously effin far? From what I understood, it's not a journey to be undertaken lightly, or by many. In fact, is the existence of the... ahhh Rhumia? It's Rhumia isn't it? Is it even a known fact to most people? *woof*

It's on the other side of the world from Sharseya, so I don't think most people need to know, generally? There's a few in Highwind who do because they've had visitors from there, and of course adventurers like us, and scholars and such.

A minor correction (that has changed since I created the world so long ago) - Sharseya is the world, the "western" continent upon which Highwind and Summerset reside is Averlund. =)

You got it, Cap'n! =)

So, Gang! Over the years, I have gotten so much joy and laughs out of D&D games and recently in our in-game posts, this has happened yet again! I cannot be the only one that finds amusement in the following scenario!

The elven archer takes a few steps to get closer, and as she does so, she offers up a polite bow. "I am Oreleth Soumral, and I am pleased to make your acquaintance." With a critical eye, she begins to look over the weapons and items displayed out before them.
Luna also approaches the tables, and offers up a curtsey. "Greetings. I am Luna Callen. I am also pleased to meet you, and I'm quite glad that you are not a hostile opponent! So, lets see what goods you have for sale!"
"I am Otiorin Taletreader, scion of Waterwind. Am I given to believe that you also have been cursed to be trapped in this accursed realm? What events transpired to bring you hear and how long have you been imprisoned here?"
Here you have, a merchant and his four young servants, who definitely don't belong here in Pohjola, and they're all in this most-unnatural state between life and death, but they've got goodies on their tables and so....

...the ranger says hello and walks up to the table. The wizard says hello and walks up to the table. The rogue of all people (the class most-known for their greed!) stops himself and says, "Hey, there. The table can wait. How'd you poor folks wind up in such a foul state?"

Ha ha ha ha!

Yeah, I kinda felt guilty about my post when I saw what Cap put up. Luna should have been more open to the plight of the merchant and his servants.

Hey, it's a role-playing game! If you're having one of those moments where you're thinking your character overheard Oti and just told one of the servants, "Pardon me. I left my conscience on the rogue. I'll be back," and returns to the proprietor, then by all means do so! We're in Exploration mode so you can post as you please! =)

Kiiiinda can’t help but feel mildly insulted by the implication I’m being pigeon-holed... ;)

EDIT: Cap'n, sorry if I insulted you mildly or otherwise. Not my intent! =)

*looks up the definition of "pigeon-holed"* "Put into a container"? Someone is going to have to explain this to me. I do not understand. I definitely don't mean to insult or imply. But I can attempt to what I mean. Here goes. =)

As a naturally direct person with ADHD, I try hard not to imply anything but instead to say exactly what I mean. But sometimes I fail. When implications come up (especially with strangers), I nearly always feel like saying (or I come out and request), "Please don't add words to mine. I'm not trying to say anything beyond what I have expressed. Any meanings you decide to add come from your head, not mine." This happens outside of gaming just often enough that the situation (not the people involved) can be a source of annoyance.

What I am attempting to express in my prior post (and nothing else) is this - to me, Otiorin is anything but a stereotypical rogue or thief. And I like that! =) Most thieves are looking out for themselves and here's Oti being as good-hearted as rogues come and caring for folks who need the caring (undead people stuck in Pohjola with no way home! What could be worse?). I think there is only one other long-time PC rogue in Sharseya who thinks this way (Kaerri's rogue, Kaerri Elvenheart after whom she is named). She's as roguey and good-natured as the class gets. I believe both Kaerri and Oti see something beyond the gold and the jewels and the self. I find such characters refreshing and very fun to play with! It makes my heart glad when they try and help, and it must drive the people (my NPCs in my head) who believe "once a rotten thief, always a rotten thief" nuts! =)

That's my message. Nothing more. =)

Meanwhile, I imagine ol' Oscar is thinking, "Here I am, traveling on another plane of existence, far from home, with a cursed party of Averlundian heroes who wish to defy an immortal Finnish goddess of the greatest wickedness..."

"...and upon reincarnation, I briefly held the worry that my life as a red panda would be mundane and without precious wonders to experience and explore!"

Just give him this kind of life, books, a peaceful Highwind, and people to chat with about all subjects known and unknown, and I would give you one very happy and satisfied Oscar. Seriously, this video is so cute. =)

Bren would like to make a roll, probably Religion, unless Monster Lore applies (I don't think it does, but it's by far the higher bonus for him). He wants to see if Loviatar and her minions are likely to stick to the terms they've stated for a curse, such as the jawbone actually being obtainable from the pile it's been tossed into (or anything else that might help us solve this).

I have a strong feeling that the jawbone is going to be with this tormentor, and we'll have to scrap with it to get the bone back.
