Imelda had been quite stunned and infuriated at the insulting way the other Nott girl had spoken of Felix and Nuella. Even during the brief conversation they had already shared, Imelda felt quite sure that they would be her friends, and she did not appreciate any mean talk toward her friends...or anyone for that matter.

Once the girl had left, however, Imelda soon relaxed and made a point to patiently explain as much of the wizarding world as she could think of, including the four houses, some of the professors her mother had told her about and the Potters who lived nearby in the village of Godric's Hollow.

She had learned much about her two travelling companions too, like Nuella's love of baking and gardening and Felix's large family and interest in sport he called basketball. Of course along the way, Imelda had bought a few sweets from the trolley and introduced them to wizard confectioneries.

They had talked amiably for the majority of the ride until the train finally came to a halt at the station and they were ushered over to the towering figure of Rubeus Hagrid. She had heard a lot about him, but seeing him holding the lantern had her feeling a little bit intimidated despite his warm and friendly manner.

Her eyes grew wide with awe as she edged closer to the candlelit castle in the little row boat and her heart skipped an excited beat once they were introduced to Flitwick.

Imelda felt her entire body fill with nervous energy as she stood next to her brother in the entrance hall of Hogwarts. She bobbed her feet and picked at her immaculate black robes whilst her blue eyes darted around the hall of anxious looking students. She couldn't help noticing how irritatingly cool Midas looked standing beside her with his back straight and his nose high in the air.

'I don't know why you look so flustered sister. It is only an old hat. Besides, you know which house you're to be sorted into and if that doesn't work out, the badgers always take the rest.'

Imelda shot her brother a glower and muttered an oath under her breath that she was certain would not be appreciated by their parents. Before she could give a response or even distract herself with the moving portraits dotted about, the huge oak doors opened to reveal the Great Hall.

Several 'oohs' and 'ahs' were heard from the first years as they were shepherded into the bustling hall. Midas nudged her harder than necessary, jutting his chin toward the ceiling with a look of wonderment. The enchanted ceiling their mother had told them so much about was more breathtaking than Imelda had ever imagined. Stars were dotted liberally about the inky sky. Imelda found it difficult to stop herself naming constellations out loud. Just seeing them was enough to sate her nerves a little.

It was not long before she heard a few pureblood surnames she recognised and then...

'Doherty, Imelda.' She gulped deeply, shooting a glance at her more self-assured twin for reassurance. Of course none was offered from the Golden Boy. Taking a deep breath, she approached the Sorting Hat and sat on the stool and within moments the hat was on her head.

Ah, another Doherty! Courage runs through your veins you know...however....interesting, very interesting. Very well, better be.....RAVENCLAW!

Cheers came from the Ravenclaw table, but Imelda's heart quickly sank as she scoped out the first years for Midas' reaction. His eyebrows had practically disappeared into his hair. Ravenclaw. There hadn't been a deviation from Gryffindor house in seventy years. Her whole family had been expecting another valiant Gryffindor woman. Her grandmother had fought alongside one of the greatest Gryffindors who ever lived, and here she was in Ravenclaw.

She slumped over to the Ravenclaw table and took a seat, more dour and quiet than usual as she listened to Midas being sorted into
    'GRYFFINDOR!'

    Brilliant. Let the gloating commence.

The train ride afterwards was a smooth one. Nuella beamed with joy as she got to know Felix and Imelda more, immensely enjoying talking to them and telling them about her hobbies. She had shyly gave them some of her own homemade cookies too, something she had baked the night before in hopes to use them to make new friends. She loved making new friends and seeing how this school is going to be something out of this world for her, she felt excited.

Magic is still a new concept to her and Nuella noticed that although Felix didn't know much either, he seemed to at least know of its existence. Nuella was grateful that Imelda was telling her some basic things for her to know, like the different houses in the school.

"Well, there are four houses. Some say that some are better than others, but I guess that's not true really. Gryffindor is the one for brave people so they say. Hufflepuff is for the hard workers and mum says they're very kind. Ravenclaw is the smart house and Slytherin... well they're very ambitious and havea kind of bad reputation" was what Imelda told her.

Nue had pondered on what that meant and what house she would get in. Honestly, she had no idea what to think of it but being in Ravenclaw would be nice as she likes blue. But then again she wasn't really known for being smart. Nuella shook her head as she stopped thinking about it and decided to let whatever happen, happen.

As the train stopped and they all got off to get into the rowboat, Nuella looked around as everyone seemed to know where to go. She spotted Midas amongst the crowd and instantly her face turned red, thinking about how she still hadn't introduced herself. She knew that he was Imelda's twin brother after getting along with Imelda and even though they were twins, he was good looking in a different way. Nuella covered her face with her hands in embarrassment and her heart started beating fast until saw another guy, with brown hair and blue eyes, busy scribbling down on a notebook. She tilted her head a little in curiosity, wondering what he could be writing, only noticing then that her heart was beating a lot faster than usual. She shook her head a little and got on the rowboat, marveling at the sights as they headed towards a castle.

Nuella looked around in awe, seeing how beautiful everything was. Magic has to be real.. right? Everything there was breathtaking, like as if she had been submerged into a fantasy movie. Nuella pinched her cheeks a little as her eyes widen. It hurt so it had to be real.

As she was being told where to stand, Nuella noticed that she was standing next to Glenda. Glenda was infront of her so that would mean that she was going to go first. The girl with long fluffy hair didn't seem to notice Nuella but Nuella noticed that her eyes were slightly red. Was she crying before she got here? Before Nuella could consult, the sorting ceremony had begun.

Nuella watched as they placed a hat -kinda looks like a witch hat oh wait yeah they are all witches and wizards according to Imelda- and then the hat would shout out which house the person was going to be. Nuella was shocked when the first person got sorted but then got used to it. She noted that Imelda had been sorted into Ravenclaw, the house with her favorite colour. She saw that Imelda was upset about it and gave her a reassuring look, unsure if Imelda got them. Her face blushed a little as she watch Midas get sorted into Gryffindor. Nuella placed her hand on her heart to try and calm it down, wondering if she was still feeling embarrassed about the incident.

Soon, it was her turn to be sorted. "Nuella Nott" the teacher had called out. Nuella hopped on up to the platform, sitting on the chair. As the teacher had placed the hat on her head, she started to hear the hat talk to her.

"A Nott? Hmm, a rather distant one. Unlucky pureblood born from squibs. One with a peculiar mind, huh?" The hat said. Nuella looked up to see the rims of the hat in her sight, wondering if she was supposed to talk to them. "Two suitable houses, two promising paths, this is a difficult choice" it continued to speak.

"Whatever choice it'll be I'm sure it'll be the right one" Nuella said softly to the hat, smiling.

"Ah, a trusting nature I see.. hmm then I'll place you in HUFFLEPUFF" The hat shouted.

Nuella looked around the hall and smiled, getting off the chair and went towards the table where everyone was cheering. Everyone there seemed friendly but she felt a little lonely since Imelda wasn't in the same house as her.

After a while, she noticed that the same guy with brown hair and blue eyes got up to the platform. "Alex" she said softly to herself, watching as he got sorted into Slytherin, feeling rather curious about this person. Her eyes wandered and lingered on Midas for a moment before she glanced at Alex, wondering if the two could be friends.

Tanner Harvey-Brown (Hufflepuff)
Location: Hogwarts - The Great Hall
Interacting: Simplymelsh Simplymelsh [Glenda & Nuella]
The remainder of the train ride had been, overwhelming to say the least spent trying to calm down the distressed girl who burst into his compartment, eventually introducing herself as Glenda Nott. He was down a strawberry chocolate-bar but on the other hand he got introduced to chocolate frogs which were both weird and kinda cool.
Tanner fell asleep for a large portion of the ride with Roxxy 🐈 curled up on his lap, he never knew why he just always got a bit sleepy on long trips. Eventually he was shaken awake as the train was getting closer to their destination and the sun was beginning to set. Initially Tanner was a little disappointed looking outside as they approached Hogsmead it looking at a distance like just an old English town.

As the students all disembarked one by one now dressed in their robes and uniforms, Tanner cautious looked around as the first years started to gather, everyone at least a head taller than him. He gulped a little. Then ahead a towering figure carrying a lantern revealed himself and addressing the first year students, an absolute giant who must have literally been twice his height. Tanner backpedalled slightly bumping into a fellow classmate out of nervousness but he was soon reassured as they group all set out to the castle.
It was really creepy and scary and yet kinda cool as the group made their way boarding this little boats in the middle of the night. Tanner had never even been on the water before but he held it together, mostly, passing nervous glances to his fellow first years. Yet all that fear just washed away and was replaced with this wide-eyed awe as he saw the massive lit up silhouette of the castle ahead. It looked like in the movies and books, like a fairy tale or something! But like even cooler!

He tried his best to take in all that was going on but it was just a blur, so many strange things going on around him. "..Im gonna get soo lost in here. Look at thi- Did that staircase just move!?!" He explained already was freaking out as they went through the halls and stairwell, further cementing his heritage as a muggleborn. Still he did keep moving if nothing else out of the pressure of the crowd, it was too late to chicken out now.
Entering into the great hall didn't make the boys nerves any better. His heart dropping to his stomach seeing soo many people and knowing he'd be put on some kind of stage for a ceremony. One by one people getting called up and some talking hat started shouting out the names of the houses. Tanner didn't even know if like some of the houses were good and others bad. Then he heard his name called and let out an audible squeak as he moused his way through the group of first years and sat up front. He looked over all the students and gulped before he heard the hat starting to talk about him.

"Hmmm, this ones a bit lacking aren't you. A little timid but a strong heart, passionate yet without ambition. This is a simpler one to be sure, only one house that fits you." It mentally mumbled and within only moment of it being placed upon the boys head without any hesitation it shouted. "HUFFLEPUFF!"

*Gulp* With that Tanner quickly followed the last student who just came before him down the great hall towards the table marked with the badger. Embarrassed and eager to get down from the front of the hall. He sat himself down quickly besides the previous first year girl [Nuella] and was quickly relieved as the other students began to welcome him with a cheer and open arms. "Urm hiya.. Everyone?" Okay he was still pretty scared and embarssed right now but he tried to make an effort to greet everyone.

Hufflepuff

Felix settled back onto his seat, leaning onto the doorframe. He could hear footsteps outside as people changed compartments and what looked to be older students began pacing around. Prefects, he thought to himself as he turned his attention back at Imelda as she began to explain the going ons of the magical society. It was definitely a bit different than what he was used to, he had to admit that. There was a lot to hide apparently and the professors didn't change— can you imagine that? The same professors for all years? They must be tired!

When Imelda came to a close on catching them up with what they had to know, they took their turns in talking about themselves. Their hobbies, a few things about their families, and Felix liked the groove of their conversation. It was coming back to a topic that he was familiar with. He told them about his basketball matches with his family and she seemed interested in it. He kept the idea of bringing a ball at the very least next year at the back of his mind.

He found that Imelda and Nuella were good company. Felix had been a little anxious that he wouldn't find some friends because of his lack of exposure to the magical world. But it would seem that there isn't much prejudice against them save for a few people. Though, remembering that they could be placed in different Houses didn't make him feel much better. Still, a grin pulled upon his lips as they continued to talk.

The train screeched to a halt and the excitement hit him full force again. Then some tall, hairy dude ushered them into boats and he couldn't help but stare for a few seconds. He wondered if he was a giant of sorts because he certainly hasn't seen anyone that tall before! Imelda's talked about him— Rubeus Hagrid was it? Anyway, he was pretty cool. But not as cool as the castle that they were approaching from the lake.

It stood there, tall and imposing and as a suburban kid himself, Felix hadn't seen anything like it. They couldn't make trips to the local tourist trap castles before and he'd only seen them in pictures at best. Yet here they were, being moved by some enchanted boat into a school of magic.

Some part of him still wondered if he was dreaming.

The first years were filed into the hall and Professor Flitwick began calling their names to be sorted. Felix watched with keen interest as they all went ahead. Student after student, coming up and sitting down and being sorted. That's so weird. An old hat could do all of this? Imelda said that they were being sorted according to their values— so this hat could just peer into them and see what their core values were? The wonders of magic, he supposed.

A lot of students had come before him. His last name was not doing him any favors. Still, he watched as Imelda got sorted into Ravenclaw. Huh, he remembered she said something about expecting to be in Gryffindor. He watched her walk away, looking disappointed with the results and he couldn't blame her— but not too long after that, Midas had been sorted into the house of the lion. Ah. Yikes.

His eyes drifted upwards, watching in amazement as it seemed like their night sky. On a roof. He wondered if they would eventually get to do that too. Felix knew about the whole secrecy from muggle things but it couldn't hurt to show his family something as cool as this right? He'd have to wait until he's older and not under the strict regulations of underage magic.

"-FELIX!"

And suddenly he was staring at his ceiling once again. Did he just miss his cue? He could see the way Professor Flitwick looked at him, a little impatient, a little amused as he rushed forward and plopped down onto the seat. Professor Flitwick looked like he was about to give him a lecture but settled for an admonishing look to which Felix merely shrugged to.

"Bit absentminded today are we?" Felix couldn't help the little embarrassed chuckle he let out. "New around here, aren't you? New to magic, new to school, new to... well, let's go back to our original goal. Such a strong sense of justice... there's no real doubt to where you would go. HUFFLEPUFF!"

Felix hummed happily as he hopped off the chair and headed off to the table of yellow and black, cheers and claps growing louder as he sat down in front of Nuella. Some of the upper years gave him a clap on his shoulder, laughing good-naturedly at his blunder. At least it didn't seem like they were bad sports. Felix grinned at Nuella. "Looks like we're gonna be together for a while eh?" He jokingly said but his gaze quickly swept around to look for Imelda among the sea of red and gold, green and silvers and finally at the table of blue and silver. Still, he couldn't quite catch her eyes so he let out a huff and turned back to his own teammates.

His eyes settled to uh... Tanner was it? He reached out a hand.
"You're a first year too right? Don't believe we've met. Felix... but uh, I think you got that after..." Despite the grin on his face, the reddening of his ears was unmistakable. Honestly, way to make a first impression on the entire school. He's never going to forget this moment, for better or for worse.

After the somewhat turbulent start to his journey to Hogwarts (what with his meddlesome sister and her new muggleborn friends, and the trickster boy Alex from Compartment J), Midas had eventually found tolerable, dare he say, pleasant company in the presence of Blaise Goshawk. The boy had not asked anything about his family and Midas had graciously done him the same courtesy.

Goshawk did not force him into conversation and had been perfectly content to let Midas read The Prophet in peace with the occasional conversation to break up the silence. Really if he had any hope at all, Midas might have hoped for Blaise to be placed in Gryffindor alongside him. However, he had the distinct impression the blond was right about his place being in Ravenclaw.

Currently, Midas stood almost a head taller than most students in the line of first years so that he had the vantage of seeing Imelda sorted. It was a rather long wait, very nearly a minute had gone by and Midas could not help but to wrinkle his nose impatiently as his sister fidgeted on the stool.

'RAVENCLAW!' The hat had finally exclaimed to a burst of applause from the table on the far right clad in blue and bronze. This had been quite an unexpected turn of events. Imelda in Ravenclaw; the house of the learned and wise? In his opinion, Imelda was irrational and whimsical and entirely too emotional. Surely that would not make for wise decision making. Never mind. He at least would keep up the family tradition.

He clapped politely, though a small smile played on his face at the look of disappointment so apparent on his sister's. He would have fun with this...

    'Doherty, Midas!'

Midas strode over to the hat and let it be placed upon his head with a cool, impassive expression.

Ah, twins I see! Very different temperaments, but Dohertys at heart. Overly ambitious I see, with a thirst to prove yourself. Greatness is within your grasp...

Honestly, I thought it would be quite clear where I belong, Midas thought. He was sure he heard the hat chuckle in his head.

You have quite a bit of nerve, too! Very well. Better be....GRYFFINDOR!

Midas hopped from the stool and went over to join the Gryffindor table, looking rather pleased with himself. He did not bother to try and catch his sister's eye but went straight to introducing himself to his peers with polite handshakes and correct etiquette.

He watched the rest of the sorting in a relaxed state. Soon he saw faces he recognised. The small and odd brunette girl from compartment C was called Nuella Nott (surely not a relation of the Nott family with her cluelessness) and had been aptly placed in Hufflepuff. Her cheery reaction amused him a fair bit and his eyes did not leave her until she had taken her seat. Then another Nott was called and placed in Slytherin. The girl oozed poise.

After this came the boy Felix. He had made an idiot of himself by having to be called twice, but Midas could admire that he dealt with it rather well. He too was placed in Hufflepuff.

A few names later and Alex Tormor had been called. As he had predicted, he was placed in Slytherin. Midas wondered which house the stubborn girl Cas would be placed in.

Cas- 1st year Gryffindor. With PixieDust PixieDust 's Midias and anyone else in Gryffindor.

"Castillo, Pippa!"

A voice cried her name, and Pippa was shoved towards the stool that held a raggedy hat. Ugh, Pippa. She hated the name.
Cas was faaar better.

She strode calmly up to the seat and settled herself down.

The old hat was placed on her head, where it hissed in Cas's mind.
Hello. It whispered. A little nervous, are we?
Just stick me in one and be over with it. Cas snapped back at it.
Alright. The old scrap of fabric muttered amicably. "GRYFFINDOR!" It bellowed, letting the word explore the corners of the enormous hall.

Cas breathed a heavy sigh and made her way to the Gryffindor table.
She seated herself next to the boy from the train- Midias. "Congratulations." She mumbled to him politely.

The call of "Castillo, Pippa!" danced in circles around her mind. It taunted her- the use of the frilly sounding name ringing in her mind.

Blaise Goshawk (Ravenclaw)
Location: The Great Hall
Interacting: Imelda[ PixieDust PixieDust ]
After a suitably relaxing trip, several chocolate frogs and some light chatter on the train with Midas, Blaise was ready to bare witness to the legendary Hogwarts he'd always heard praise and legends about. He was excited about coming here, getting to actually practice magic, and getting to hang out with people who aren't just looking for favours just... It the fact it was Hogwarts over the other schools didn't excite him. Yeah there had been a lot of legendary mages here, but some of those were as terrible as they were good.

Still he followed suit with the other students as they followed the giant of a man across Hogsmead to the boats and across to Hogwarts. Hagrid, was bigger than he thought. Blaise couldn't help but consider his own torso might be thinner than that man's arms. His appearance didn't look to have changed a bit from what was described to him by his mother and the other ex or current Hogwarts Students he'd spoken to.

Arriving into the great hall Blaise watched with close intent as each student got called to stage, noting some people's disappointment, others pride, and others fear. So many people with such high aspirations, many having already decided for themselves which house they want to be. Blaise didn't care. If he ended up a Slytherin or something it didn't really bother him, a house is a house and he's still gonna get an education. Blaise couldn't help himself however joining the rooms laughter as Felix seemed to daydream his way through his own name, snapping him a bit out of his contemplation as he watched the boy head towards the table of the Badger.

Midas without surprise seemed to get into his preferred house of Gryffindor, and his sister to Ravenclaw which he found interesting. When it was time for him to walk up as Goshawk was called he strided up and let the stupid hat be placed on his head. Lets get this over with then.

"Ahh yes, a Goshawk its been some time since one of yours came here. Hmm a sharp one aren't you? Yes that intellect and that cunning both powerful weapons." The hat took some time in reality without making a decision. "You know your succeed at all you do, yes a powerful resolve and a will to succeed. Yet I sense a lack of purpose, you can't decided what path you want to take so just bury yourself in your visions and your knowledge... Yes that's it, and in that case.." The hat continued to mentally mumble before the hat shouted out. "RAVENCLAW!"

Blaise was almost getting annoyed t that hat as it mumbled into his head. Not because it was poking at the truth, Blaise already acknowledged all that as a part of him. Just stupid thing shouldn't be poking around in his head. Still he made him way down across the room towards the Ravenclaw table and take a seat besides one of the second years and across from Imelda, already getting welcomes from the other students and slap on the back from a student besides him.
Despite his annoyance at the Hat though he was pretty happy with this, Ravenclaw seemed the most sensible choice.
So with a genuine smile on his face he did greet his fellow housemate back in return, even genuinely laughing at a dumb joke told by one of the upper years at Felix who came just before. Peering across the table he sighed a ltitle and reached out a hand to Imelda with a smile still on his face. "Hope we can get along Imelda!" Blaise greeted with a little more force than you might normally to ensure she heard it over her own melancholy, but he was still friendly with it hoping to snap her out of moping before the big feast started.

Glenda blushed, noticing that the compartment wasn't empty. The fact that there was another muggle inside there without her noticing made her tears stop for a second. She sat down and allowed this person to try and calm her down, for some reason able to let her guard around this person. He had offered her some chocolate and she nibbled on it after introducing herself as she calmed down. Not one to not return a favour, Glenda then sought out and got this person -Tanner if she recalls correctly- some chocolate frogs as thanks. Other than that she kept to herself for the rest of the ride, noting that Tanner had fallen asleep. Glenda sighed softly as she reflected on what she did earlier while looking out of the window, watching as they got closer and closer to their destination. When the train arrived, she noticed that Tanner was still asleep and as she felt slightly indebted to him for helping her out, she shook him awake a little, leaving before he noticed.

When she got out, she noticed the hustle as everyone was getting onto the rowboat and she promptly followed suit. It didnt take long for her to start gasping at the sights, feeling happy to know that she is finally going to start being a witch. As they waited to be sorted, Glenda noticed that Nuella was there in line with her. She pondered to herself, wondering why.

"Nuella Nott!" Glenda heard the muggle's name being called, gasping softly when she heard it. She was a Nott? Since when? How was that possible? She had absolutely no clue whatsoever about wizarding or magic! Maybe it sounds similar? Maybe it was Knot or Not and not Nott? She frowned a little. It couldn't be possible but why is there this feeling inside her that made her think otherwise? Now if she was placed in Slytherin that would be really seal the deal.

Glenda sighed with relief after hearing the sorting hat had placed her under Hufflepuff. That would mean she wasnt related to her. Seeing as it was going to be her turn next, Glenda straightened her back and tried to look as presentable as possible.

"Glenda Nott!" her name was called out. As she walked towards the platform, she could hear people whispering at the similar name she and Nuella had. It didn't faze her as a true Nott would be in Slytherin and not in Hufflepuff.

As she sat, she could feel herself getting slightly nervous as the hat was being placed on her head. "Hmm, another Nott. This one with a more direct link. There's no mistaking it..." The hat said, making Glenda confused. Another Nott it said?? So that meant that Nuella really was from the Nott family as well? This whole thing had been such a rollercoaster.

"Slytherin!" The hat shouted as Glenda's mind was in a mess.

Glenda got down and went towards the Slytherin table, trying to keep her face straight while she tried to straighten out her mind. She didnt like how it is positive that Nuella was from the same family as her, but why was she acting like a muggle? Why was she pretending to not know magic if she was a Nott? Was it to get close to Imelda? Was Nuella like her, trying to get in her good grace so that they can meet her father? Glenda looked over to where Nuella was, seemingly making friends with the people from Hufflepuff but potentially was plotting against them. Glenda frowned slightly as distrust rose towards Nuella.

Alex Great Hall

*Alex looks around before noticing a few people he knew, Midas and Cas... He was interested in the fact that they were both in the same house, not caring because he probably wouldn't be friends since he is a Slytherin... Alex looks around before seeing a ghost floating around the Slytherin table, he knew that it was a house ghost*

"Interesting"

*Alex looked at Glenda with a neutral expression, wondering why she was acting so weird as she was walking towards the Slytherin table*

"..."

*Alex pulls out a photo, looking at it before he puts it up*

Hal was, well he was quite excited. Or nervous. He couldn't quite tell. To think he would be able to come to the famous Hogwarts. Oh yes, he had been very excited about going to Ivermony, but Hogwarts... well Hogwarts was Hogwarts!

Rocking back and forth on the balls of his feet he could not help but wonder which if the houses he would be put in. What would it see in him? Something he had been thinking about the entire ride here. It seemed such a significant choice. But was it? No, he didn't think so. Hal figured he would be happy in any of the houses. No. It didn't matter.

"Thomper, Henry."

His name was called. It mattered! It mattered! What if he had to go to the hat with a house in mind? He didn't have one. What if he got into a house and regretted it and thought he might fit better in a different one? What if what if what if. How could there be so many what ifs to something so simple as a one in four choice?

Hal felt himself walk up to the stool and sit down. His face turning a faint shade of red as the eyes turned on him to see which table he would become a new member of. What if they didn't like him? What if the hat said he should be Ivermony? What if it refused him because he was a werewolf!

The floppy leather drooped on his head and covered his eyes. And a voice spoke into his ears.

Oh-ho! A good pick for Hufflepuff if I have ever knew one, if only they knew they would be quite jealous. Yes, with a mind such as yours and the wisdom to boot. Yes yes, it is clear now from the moment I saw, you belong in....

"Ravenclaw!" The seams parted in the hat as its mouth belted out irs decision and the sorting hat was removed from his head and Hal saw the Ravenclaw table cheering and clapping and waving him down.

Hal felt a great warmth in his stomach as he hurried off the stool and down to his table. His anxiety easing by the step as he saw an older boy scoot over to make room for him.

And soon. Hal found himself sitting right beside a first year girl, one he remembered had also already been sorted. ( PixieDust PixieDust ) As well he noticed the boy across from the too had just been sorted. ( Dawnstar Dawnstar )The young boy beemed at them both in turn. Blaise he remembered that one as it was just a couple of kids ago. But the girls name escaped him at the moment. "Hello there!" He said to them in an American accent. "I'm Hal!"

Imelda had watched the rest of the ceremony pass by with mild interest She was even more disappointed that Nuella and Felix had not been sorted into Ravenclaw with her, but Felix's blunder with the roll call had been amusing and she had to stifle a giggle at his expense. Though really, he would not have known if she had laughed, and by the looks of it, he would not have minded either.

The girl who had insulted her new friends (Glenda) had been placed in Slytherin, which unfortunately hadn't surprised imelda. She had begun to zone in and out once the names beginning with F had been called, so she was rather surprised when a boy sitting opposite her had addressed her as she sat with her head resting on her chin and her blue eyes staring right through the ghost of Gryffindor house (her mother had told her his name was Nearly-Headless Nick).

The blonde held out his hand to her and she was pretty sure he had just been sorted, judging by the nondescript black tie and robes he wore. He offered a smile as he said, rather forcefully, 'I hope we can be friends, Imelda.'

How on earth did he know her name, she blinked dumbly for a second before realising he would have seen her being sorted. Chuckling and shaking her head a little, she returned his smile and shook his hand.
'Oh, thanks! Congratulations on making Ravenclaw...' she trailed off, realising she didn't know his name, but feeling better now that she had someone else to think about.

Just then another boy came up and sat beside her looking excited to be there. At this rate she thought all of the blondes would be joining her new house.
'Hello there! I'm Hal!' He introduced with an accent that Imelda instantly recognised to be American. Shouldn't he be at Ilvermorny? Instead of asking him as such, she simply shot him a sunny smile the same as she had the other boy and put out her hand to shake.
'Hi Hal, I'm Imelda. Congrats on making Ravenclaw!' She hoped they would like the house more than she did currently. She shot a furtive glance toward Midas at the Gryffindor table, who was already 'networking' with older students, as he would call it.

Pearl had been watching the first years getting sorted and thought back to her own some. Her sorting had taken about a minutes, a bit long for a sorting but not a stall. The choices had been ravenclaw and slytherin as she had plenty of qualities for both house. The hat had also thanks to it's mind reading been able to see past her calm exterior and drawn some amusement from that. The deciding factor had been apparently how the traits mixed she would not do well in any house where they were expected to be similar. The other two houses had seemingly not even been considered. That had always bugged Pearl some , the idea that a few traits could pick out some place you would stay for years. it had always seemed an outdated thing with how in the muggle world they were integrated from what Pearl knew. Well there was no way to change that, Pearl was not the headmistress and she did not think she would go into education.

Soon it seemed that they were out of ravenclaws few others in the line had the look that most kids in the house had when they first arrived. Pearl had noted where they had sat down and noticed they were similar though their names were not. That was odd, though given how insular the wizard world was it was likely looks would be repeated. Pearl would need to make sure the three knew that they would be following her after the meal that was part of her duties and she didn't want to have to work to speak over others. Pearl got up and as she moved some other ravenclaws would go silent as if expecting to be chastised already by their prefect. That was something pearl had yet to really get she was not rude and she tried to help people yet many still seemed to dislike her. Pearl had always felt she was looking out for the other students and making sure they got good grades and when they started to study instead of play she assumed they had taken her reminder. It was easy to play to much and she felt they needed to be reminded.

Pearl would arrive at the area with the most new students, her expression seeming more a mask than a normal face as her eyes looked over each of them. " I am Pearl Shafiq one of the prefects when the coming feast is over you will follow me or another with this badge" She pointed tot he prefect badge with their house colors " To the dormitory and we will explain how to gain entrance to it as every house has its own unique method" She explained every word said calmly yet seeming like a command.

Blaise couldn't help but feel a little annoyed as he noticed Imelda's eyes dart to the Gryffindor table with some odd glances, jealousy perhaps of Midas? This might be fun drama but promised food first, drama second. Blaise did consider bringing up Birdie but the effort of explaining everything on the train seemed more than it was worth for the moment.

Turning his attention to the American boy who sat down, Blaise looked him over and just curiously smiled. Hal seemed a bit anxious but that wasn't that big a deal and otherwise seemed genuinely positive. Blaise waved a hand across the table to him. "Same to you both, and mines Blaise. Bit of a weird spelling but-" He shrugged and introduced himself in kind with a playful smile, not knowing if these two had payed as close attention as he did to all the names being called out.

He was about to continue but then the white-haired prefect began speaking to them all. He listened and then nodded giving a quick and playful off-hand salute motion with on hand as a joke. "
Yes Ma'am, follow the fancy blue badge." Blaise was curious to see how she'd respond if at all to that, wanting to get a read on our prefect here and if she was going to be all no-nonsense or not.
"I don't know about the rest of you, but before we do any of that though I'm just starving!" Blaise then added commenting to the students around him, likely in agreeance of some of the hungry second years next to him all who were waiting for the last few students to be sorted.

The rest of the train ride was calm and uneventful. About half an hour before arriving in a town that they called Hogsmead, she changed into her robes, feeling the excitement stirring inside of her. Getting off the train, she heard a deep voice calling out the first-years, and as she squeezed between all the to-be students, she saw a huge figure standing in front of them. Her lips parted, as she had never seen anyone that wide or tall before.

The boat ride didn’t take long, and Emerald took the scenery in as much as she could. She didn’t know what she was expecting, but it definitely wasn’t a castle. Was that really Hogwarts? She couldn’t wait to tell her parents about it, about the majestic towers and lights floating in the sky. Castles weren’t exactly common in her home country, and as such, she had never seen one before, and now… Now she’d be living in one.

They were greeted by a very small man, an interesting contrast to the one that they’d met not long ago. The stone walls were thick and the ceiling high as they walked through the school. Professor Flitwick, as he introduced himself, stopped in front of large and tall doors and explained to them about the four houses of Hogwarts. That was the first time Emerald was hearing about this, and she wondered why they had such a thing and what exactly it meant to be in each house.

The doors opened as if by magic and all the students followed the tiny man into a massive hall, making him look even smaller. Four long tables were laid under a star-covered sky. She smiled in awe. Was that the kind of thing wizards could do? She wondered if the stars were real, if it was a projection of the real sky, or if it was an illusion. Either way, it was beautiful, she had never seen as many stars as she could see now, and looking at them, she remembered her father’s words as she entered the train.

They stopped in front of a small set of stairs, atop which sat a stool with a hat on top. The folds on the hat made it seem like it had a face, which Emerald found an amusing thought. The first student was called forth and, after a few seconds, Emerald was shocked when she saw the hat’s fold moving and a voice coming out of it. It seemed being this surprised would be happening a lot.

She quietly watched student after student be called to the stool, letting out a short laugh when the one named Felix missed his queue.

”Emerald Ammons!” She heard Professor Flitwick call her name.

Butterflies turned her stomach in and out but she walked forward with confidence, and with a deep breath she took a seat.

”You’re a long way from home, aren’t you?,” she heard a voice in her ears. She felt startled by it but didn’t jump or move, just stayed still in her seat. Was she supposed to answer? ”You don’t need to answer, my dear, I can see into your mind, read your deepest desires. I can see you were scared, so scared to come here. But I can also see the excitement of a new world being discovered, of endless possibilities unraveling before your eyes. You face your fears because you know overcoming them would make you reach higher things. So in that case, I shall put you in… GRYFFINDOR!”

She had no idea what being in Gryffindor meant, but she removed the hat with a smile. Somehow being complimented by a talking hat so much made her feel good. She walked towards the table she saw the other students being sorted into Gryffindor walk to and took a seat across the other first-years. She was greeted by her seniors with smiles, handshakes, and back pats, which left the girl beaming with joy. Then she turned her gaze to the other first-years seating across her. They were talking amongst themselves and she felt a bit hesitant before speaking.

”I don’t want to interrupt your conversation, but I would like to introduce myself,” she said in her West Coast accent, offering them a soft smile. ”I’m Emerald, and I look forward to getting to know my new housemates better.”

Nuella turned her head towards the guy sitting next to her. "Hiya" she smiled brightly at him. If she recalled correctly, his name was Tanner. As she heard Felix's name being called, Nuella perked up and turned her head to watch. She giggled a bit at Felix's spaced out bit and cheered when he was sorted into Hufflepuff. As happy as she was, she felt a little sad as it would've been a lot more fun if Imelda were with them. Nuella then made it a resolve to spend as much time as she can with Imelda so she doesn't feel lonely. Happy with her resolve, she beamed and clapped more as Felix approached the table and sat infront of her. "Looks like it!" She said excitedly, almost bouncing. Following Felix's gaze, she saw him looking towards Imelda and she gave a small nod. "We should spend lots of time with Imelda after this" she said, hoping that Felix would agree to this. Surely not everything in this school will be divided?

After hearing Felix introduce himself to Tanner, Nuella was reminded that yet again she had not introduced herself to another person. Gosh, this was started to be a bad habit of hers! Following Felix, Nuella held out her hand as well and smiled at him. "And I'm Nuella Nott! I hope we can all be friends!" she said, in hopes that that would cover up her mistake.

Tanner enthusiastically reached a hand back to Felix as he offered it, still chucking a little at the scene that he'd created up out there with the sorting hat.
"Mmmn yeah I'm a first year too. And... I uh.." He awkwardly rubbed the back of his head a little. "Sorta-kinda only learnt about magic like a week ago, tops!" He openly admitted unsure how much everyone else knew, it being harder now everyone was in their robes to tell quite who was muggleborn.

He then took Nuella's hand as well.
"Sure, lets be freinds!" Tanner's gave a smile at the Nue's comment was like a literal beam of optimism shining back and fourth between both Felix and Nuella. He manged to hold back a small tear that tried forming in his eyes. "Oh my names Tanner if you didn't hear it before."

Calming down a little Tanner couldn't help but look the others over a little, feeling self-conscious as normal as he visually compared his height to theirs, trying to sit up as straight as he could for a moment to try and match there's before giving up. Obviously the second and third years were all taller than him as well. Not that tanner could do anything about it but he did hope he wouldn't be the baby of this school as well.
At least he was feeling a lot better with the other first years introducing themselves and being friendly. No immediate bullying like at his old school, nobody had even yet tried to tease him about his freak outs before getting to the great hall.

'You mean Ravenclaw doesn't use a password?' She asked faintly. The cold girl made Imelda feel oddly shy. She was also incredibly disappointed that Ravenclaw might not get a password like Gryffindor did. What if it was something terribly difficult, like fighting a Red Cap? No. Of course it wouldn't be. Red Caps wouldn't be allowed at Hogwarts...

At the mention of food, Imelda lit up with enthusiasm, back to her usual, exuberant self. 'You're not the only one who's starving. You know, I read that the food will appear after McGonagall's speech. The House-elves send the food up through the kitchens. Of course, they used to be unpaid for their labour, but I'm so glad Minister Weasley had that ended. Can you imagine how awful that would have been?' She frowned slightly, her eyebrows furrowing as she looked back down at her plate in thought. Then she turned to the boy Hal, beside her with curiosity. 'Are you from America? He really did want to spend more time with Imelda since she was so nice in telling them all about the wizarding world. Felix had figured after Glenda's interaction that there might not be a lot of wizards who would do something like that. He was really glad that Imelda was the first person they met.

"No way! You're muggleborn too?" Was there some sort of influx on muggleborns? Or were they really just lucky enough to all meet each other n the Hufflepuff table? Well, whatever the case, Felix was glad that it wasn't just him and Nuella who has to navigate through the wizarding world with practically next to no knowledge aside from the ones that they were briefed about (or lack thereof in regards to Nuella). "I learned about it like a few months ago cause I was visited. But still, isn't it cool? Magic is actually real."

Felix was about to talk about it some more when an older girl came up to them. He blinked, nearly missing what she was saying. "You're very pretty, er, Miss Victoire." There was little hesitation when it came to giving the genuine compliment as he paired it with a big smile. It wasn't like he was lying. She really was pretty and he thought that this was the kind of otherworldly beauty he often read from one of his brother's books. "And thanks! We don't know much about magic so we'll be counting on you guys." Even with the knowledge that wizards weren't all too welcoming to muggleborns, Victoire seemed friendly enough. Hopefully, so were the other upperclassmen.

The butterflies somehow found their way back to her stomach when the two other kids looked at her, but she felt her smile broaden a little. ”It’s a pleasure meeting you, Midas,” she said, reaching her arm across the table and taking Midas’ hand. She hadn’t noticed how cold her hands were until feeling how warm the boy felt. Releasing his hand, she looked at the girl. ”Cas, what a lovely nickname.” She wasn’t offended by the assertive way the girl spoke, but the brunette made it quite obvious she had strong feelings regarding her name and nickname, although Emerald could only guess what they would be, she decided to err on the side of caution.

Cas seemed tired and rested her head on her arms. The brown-haired girl didn’t look too good, Emerald noticed. She turned her gaze back to Midas when he spoke again and felt her cheeks warming up, though she didn’t know if it was noticeable or not. ”You’re kind. It is, indeed. Blue only happens to be my favorite color. Well, this shade of blue in particular. The color of the sky in an early spring morning. Pale pink was my best friend’s favorite color, and I decided to add shades of it when I moved, so I would always have her with me in some way. I know it’s… Well, for a lack of a better word, cheesy, but I needed something permanent of hers with me.”

" As for house access each house has it's own method and forgetting it will get you locked out" She clarified actually having mostly ignore the boy as he seemed to get it, though his salute she didn't really get not known muggle military gestures so a salute as such was lost on her.

"Well they are magical creatures. My grampa has one. And she is really nice. My mom says the best way to show respect to magical creatures is to treat them how they want to be treated. I mean, they got their own ways. And, well, just cause something is good for one group doesn't really make it good for another. But that certainly doesn't mean we can't be nice to them though."

The Potions Master
CHAPTER THREE: THE POTIONS MASTER

The start of year feast passed in a flurry of chatter and revelry. The first years were guided to their common rooms and spent their first night in their new dormitories.

The next day, the first class of the year for the first years was potions with Professor Horace Slughorn. Some entered their first class riddled with nerves, others were confident they could produce a perfect cure for boils on the first try. Only time would tell how their remedies would turn out.

QUICK QUOTES NOTE: Feel free to have your first year students work in pairs or threes (you can discuss interactions with other players). You may play Slughorn as an NPC in your interactions if you wish, however I may pop in as Slughorn to check on student progress!

PREFECTS: Prefect characters have free reign and can essentially explore Hogwarts creating their own little interactions. If you want any characters to interact with each other in a particular place, please do arrange this amongst yourselves in the OOC chat or the discord server.

Once again please always state location and character house in all posts and enjoy your magical day!
