Hi all, The site's been down for a few days this week. The short of it is that we've again experienced the same sort of issue as about a year ago, detailed here: News & Updates - It's a Bad Time for Computer Trouble This all started a few weeks ago but we were able to keep running with some periodic interruptions. It turned out that not only did we get data corruption on the server, but hardware components were causing crashes as well, so it has been a "fun" time of troubleshooting and trying to keep more data from being lost. Our server provider over the course of this few weeks has now replaced the power supplies, motherboard, and CPU on our server. I am hopeful the hardware is stable and the corruption has been dealt with as best...

Today, sometime in the evening CST, we will be bringing down the site for a bit while we run some tests on the server to diagnose and investigate the stability that has been happening over the last couple of weeks. You know, most of the time, when there's a server outage and the site goes down, it's due to some mundane thing like planned software updates or the typical datacenter fire. But this week, we had some rather annoying issues that really give fuel to the old System Admin adage: "Well, I've never seen that before." Monday started off with a classic server hang. Everything just went offline like the server had been unplugged. And, in a way, it was. And of course, it was my office day. Hey all, The time has finally come, for us iPhone users who use the site to get something we've never had on our phones, and that's Push Notifications. Apple has released this for iPhones (you'll need to update to ios 16.4+) and use the safari browser for this process. Go to the hamburger icon menu in the top left and look for the install the app button (you have to be using safari for this, this is an apple restriction). Bigger Screens (iPad): If you can't see the hamburger menu due to a larger screen like an iPad, the instructions are the same. Hey All, One of the site's most popular and yet inconsistent features is the fact that when someone replies to something, the post comes in a few seconds later without having to refresh the page. This feature is powered by an old plugin that we've been looking at replacing for a long time now, and we've finally succeeded. Replies to threads should be in real time currently now, as we've swapped to a new real-time system that handles it for us. In general, most of the changes are just rewordings meant to help users better understand what the rules are and what they mean. However, many people have asked for a list of specific changes, so here's a changelog to sum up. Introduction/Mission Statement - Adding this was one of the main changes. Hey All, We are upgrading our server this weekend on Saturday morning on 12/03/22, we can't give an exact time since there's always a bit of prep work to do before an actual live migration, no matter how much we prep, and we also need to wake up which can vary a little bit, but it should be before noon est. Until now, we've had the following required when you submit a recruitment or roleplay thread: Tags Sub-Genre Filter System Both were closed systems, meaning that to add new options, it took staff intervention. Over the years, we've come to realize that this kind of curation wasn't the best system because it meant that we couldn't keep up with the trends and tags and listings that users wanted to use for their content.
