Realistic or Modern Heroes of Today: God's Territory

When Vicky finally came back to herself enough to realize where her feet had taken her, it was too late to question the decision. The slums weren’t the kind of place she wandered often, not for any kind of trepidation, but rather because they rarely held anything interesting. Unfortunately the best she could hope for was a quick fight with some down on their luck mugger, hardly worth her time. But she was there, and it was dark, and unless she wanted to skulk back to her apartment with only disappointment to show for the day there weren’t many other options. At least people would still be out this time of night, unlike in the nicer more fun parts of town closer to the Heroes of Today HQ.

Slums it was then. She wandered farther down the street, taking in the old buildings, decrepit, on their last legs. Why anyone even let such a depressing place exist was beyond her. Maybe it was because most people were too scared to venture out here even in the middle of the day. There weren’t many regular humans who could stand up to this place, and any super worth there salt had better places to be.

Like her.

What was she doing here again? Oh, right, trying to feel less depressed by romping around looking at things more depressed than her.

The night seemed to grow darker the farther she went, the rotten husks of lost houses looming over her. She shivered, the cool air and her soaked clothes finally getting to her. She should have just gone home, dried off, and then flopped into bed.

Vicky turned around to do just that, intent on leaving the way she’d come in. Except she didn’t know where she came in from, having wandered in from nowhere. Not to mention she really didn’t know what this part of the city looked like. She’d been back here a few times, in her first few years on her own. Mostly to try out her growing powers. No one would miss a few deadbeats anyway, she’d reasoned, and for all the years that passed everything was fine.

Suddenly she was blinded, bright lights flooding her vision, causing her to squint and shield her eyes with the back of her hand. What? It took a moment for her eyes to adjust, when the car shut off, her night vision ruined, white spots dancing around her.

When she could finally see properly again, she immediately fixed on the woman swinging herself deftly out of the car, as if she was used to making quick transitions from vehicle to foot.

A cop, most definitely, her status projected subtly from her precise and professional movements as well as more blatantly through the vest she wore.

“Hello,” Vicky called with a smile, waving enthusiastically. Well, at least now she had someone to talk to.

Kal Tetsusaki

"You heading out?"

Movement came to a halt and the shirtless young man being addressed visibly sagged. Kal glanced a apathetic look of exhaustion back to his manager. The Portuguese blond cocked a brow as he waited for a response, Kal's eyes merely narrowed at the sight of that signature smile now flashing his way. Richie was a decent guy, but man did that smile get so fucking annoying when you had to see it on a day-to-day basis.

"Yeah", was his nonchalant response. The young man immediately turned his attention back to his more dire task; stuffing his signature WcRonald hat into his locker along with his neatly hung work clothes. A few seconds later and he had his black shirt on accompanied with the removal of his red jacket. Richie didn't say a word, merely watched Kal in silence.

The locker clicked with a metallic clink, and Richie soon stepped out of the doorway as Kal sloughed his way towards the back entrance. "You sure you don't wanna come to tonight's outing? You just need to wait a hour for us to lock up then we could head on over to Sebastian's..."

Steps paused, "Yeah, I'm sure." Kal said after a minute of intentional pause.

Richie sighed. The usual sound of disappoint. It wasn't effective against Kal. "Becky will be there, y'know?"

With his back facing Richard, Kal visibly rolled his eyes. Becky he thought the name with a hint of annoyance. The new trainee that'd been working here for about two weeks and had latched herself on to him like a bee on pollen. Always trying to make small talk with him when he clearly didn't want to. Always trying to get him to go out on of the groups 'bonding' moments. All of it just noise and nonsense he didn't want to deal with. He had too much on his plate already dealing with the thugs in Grimore's streets. He didn't have time to deal with this biz.

"Tell her I said 'hi' then" Kal informed with a shrug, and with a bored wave to one of the three other workers behind the counter he was out the front door and disappearing off into the darkened streets of the night. One, two, three lamp posts lighting his way before he was too far down the street to even be seen.

........

Sirens echoed, a clock in the distance spoke of the time being 9:25. Kal watched from above, leaning over the railing of a balcony, visor protecting his eyes from most of the bright flashes that came with the sirens that echoed from the ruined building over a hundred feet away. With hard eyes he removed his visor and began changing. There was no point in going in costume yet if there was no immediate danger. "One," Kal's voice spoke to the air of his empty bedroom as he dawned a heavy hoodie that could be used to obscure his face. "What happened while I was at work?"

Kal merely waited for his 'twin' to respond. "Some sort of superpower incident. Not sure, went out for dinner at 8:30, from what I'm hearing so far though seems like something or someone tore this place to the ground....Some people are saying it was a fight, cops are keeping things on a tight lid here with the gathering crowd."One's voice replied over the comm. "Can't make out much from all the noise down here...I'll try using Two and Three. Cover more ground that way."

Kal nodded silently and as if One were right next to him and had seen him do so, the twin asked: "You?"

A second of silence went by before Kal's lips moved again. "Meet me nearby the main road of the district in an hour. There's a bank not far from there that'll be closing by ten. We'll regroup there. Gonna hit the clubs, heard some nasty shit went down in one of them, don't wait up." Kal felt One nod in understanding before Two and Three came into existence.

Turning his attention towards his front door, the young man donned his jacket, slipped in his pocket knife, and wrapped his utility belt around his jeans, pushing a button that clicked as all the compartments sunk into themselves, hiding visible pellets; smoke bombs and flash bangs alike to compress into a regular bulky black belt.

Opening the front door with satchel on one shoulder, Kal hit the streets in a brisk jog. If his guts were right, he was bound to find some action on the streets.

Briana walked in pub, where she often visited as staff didn't ask id, understand russian and didn't call her child, at least not in russian. She walked to counter and gived bundle of money to bartender.
"Today's meal and vodka"
Bartender put food and vodka front of girl who from her look could be 12 years old, pub's owner had heard what she had done to pubs where she had refused to serve her and called her child. After first visit she had also proved that she was loyal customer and someway had money, so owner had told staff to stay civil to her.

It's been almost a lifetime since Tony dragged himself out of his home. Covering his eyes from the bright sunlight every few steps, Tony took out his wallet and checked the money he had. Enough for a meal. Maybe it was time for him to resume that hero business he used to do.
"Oooh, that seems nice."
He spotted a pub nearby and walked up to it. After a short internal conflict of whether he should buy a drink or not, he took a seat near the exit. He ordered a small sandwich when he spotted a little girl getting some food and.....
... vodka? After staying confused for a moment, he walked up to the bartender.
"Isn't she a bit too... you know."
He whispered, eyeing the girl.
"Oh, she's got a.. reason for it."
"Reason."
The bartender gave him a nod.
"And I advise you not to call her a child. For whatever reason you have. Especially in Russian."
The bartender added.
"Don't worry, I don't speak Russian."
Tony said back and returned to his seat, eyeing the girl one more time.

Briana keep eating (and drinking) when bartender left to serve unknown man, she didn't care as both speak english and she didn't understand it. She also didn't care gazing, as men who did that often turned to be punching bags and she liked punching bags so long when there was something to punch.

When she had finished her meal, she buy new class of vodka and asked if tv could be put to russian channel, as there wasn't other customers than she and man near exit.

Tony's head tried to spin as he devoured the sandwich, but eating and thinking at the same time seemed like a hard business for someone who didn't eat anything starting from yesterday lunch. He ate the food clean off its plate and leaned against the wooden chair he was sitting on, commanding his brain to think.
Someone who looks like a twelve years old girl ordered a vodka at a pub, and nobody is supposed to object about it. He himself didn't recognize the girl, though it was obvious since he lived the last seven years like a mold on the wall of an old house. Still, the case itself was peculiar enough to interest Tony. Without any second thoughts, he decided to follow the girl whenever she left the pub. For himself, as he couldn't risk spending any more money, he paid for his food and walked out of the pub, and started counting cars passing by.
"Five, six.... any time now."
He muttered to himself.

Briana watched news about explosions around city, it seems like polices would be occupied with that and at least news wasn't anymore interested about last week's bank robbery where wall was busted without explosives or vehicles. After looking weather and drinking glass empty, Briana leaved pub and started heading to part of city where she thought would be less polices this night.

Location: Southern District, Bahara Building
T: 8:45 PM

With: OPEN
"Commence experiment 629. The current time is eight-forty-five PM. Objective, complete destruction of the Bahara Building along with the elimination of the Twelve at the meeting." A voice rang inside the experiment's head as he took a step towards the Bahara Building. It was a tall building, composed entirely of steel and aluminum. It was truly an engineering marvel, and one that was rather hard to get into. His supervisors were rather understanding. He had a life. The experiment stepped forwards and extended a hand out towards the building.

"Experiment 628 was a success."

"What's the meaning of this? I've completed over six hundred experiments, and there has been no improvement in my power."
"You won't see any change."
"Hm?"
"Upon completing the, ehm, 'curriculum', will you finally witness an increase in power. Just remember that even the final few experiments may even cost you your life should you slip. Even you can die, until this is complete."
"Very well doctor. I will continue my hand at this."

The Experiment raised a foot into the air. White symbols began floating around his foot. It almost seemed to light up for a moment, before it hit the ground.

สิบสองสิบห้าสิบสอง!

With a loud crumble, the ground cracked and most pieces of rock flew out of place. The building's structure was destabilized completely. The experiment stepped forwards and, with a loud cackle, raised a hand. The instant his finger made contact with the aluminum, it blasted open, leaving an entryway.

The experiment simply stood in the middle of the building. He removed the key from around his neck and held it out. More symbols surrounded the key. The experiment flattened his palm, and the key shot upwards through the roof, ignoring all physical matter as if it was nothing to worry about. Before long, the experiment raised his foot once again and slammed it into the ground. The floor twisted and tore through the walls. The experiment then walked out as the building began to fall.

Arc #1: The Absolute Being
Poltergeist watched the building crumble from behind the corner of another.
"What the shit...?"
Some guy just walked out of it while this was happening. Did they do this themselves? Either way, this was most likely a supervillain which meant that Poltergeist was supposed to fight him...or something? He turned invisible and started towards the guy, making sure to be light on his feet to make his footsteps, which were already being obscured by the rain, less noticeable.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jack-O-Lite had left the coffee shop after finishing his drink and put his mask back on. He felt better now, so maybe he'd try making his villain debut again tonight. That bank from earlier was still prime for heisting, so maybe he would--
"WHAT THE SHIT!?"
A whole building just seemed to collapse on its own, with a single guy walking away from it. He had been interrupted once again, dammit! At this rate he'd never get around to doing any actual villain stuff. For now he felt the urge to screw up this new guy's bread slice storage. He checked his weapon, slung it onto his back, and started going towards the guy.

Elina Driscoll :: Telepoint
Elina squeezed Nick's hand tighter, this time warping them into a vortex before they appeared right at the man hole cover. "Please, I don't need your power to get rid of a dinky manhole cover. You should save your strength for blowing up the real stuff inside." Elina cracked her knuckles and tapped the manhole cover with them. Without warning, the manhole cover disappeared, then reappeared a few feet later, hitting the ground with an obnoxious clanging sound.

Elina didn't let go of Nick's hand as of yet; she wasn't ready to let him go free.
"Down the sewer, to the left. That's the base. If you destroy it quickly, we won't need to worry about the idiots who tried to fuck with us anymore." She jumped down into the manhole, teleporting again; this time directly to a warm spot where anything could've happened. "Keep your eyes open for trouble or anything like that. I've got a bad feeling in my stomach, and it's not just from teleporting."

Riley shrugged. "How am I supposed to know, Banjo? We're just like...we're supposed to follow orders, that's the point- huh?" Riley whirled around on her feet to see two new grunts. A...neko?..and a mechanic looking person. She stared at them with a dull face. "Guys, we aren't your supervisors. We're just trying to find something to do."

She crossed her arms and looked at the neko and the mechanic. "Ahem, did your superiors tell you to come help us? Well, you're kind of late. Everything's been resolved by now. So, you're free. Let's go do something fun."

"Unknown Numerals"
The experiment turned his head towards the sky and continued walking. The rain simply bounced off of his deflection field, falling to the ground around him in a torrential downpour. Only in the rain was it known that he enjoyed rendering himself untouchable. Of course, it blocked out all other offensive powers, but it was certainly nice to be untouched by all forms of energy.

Thermal energy, electrical energy? Kinetic energy? What are those? HA!

The experiment kept walking before he suddenly felt something along the ground. Without turning, the experiment just started talking to nobody. There wasn't even the slightest hint of fear in his voice. Instead, it was rather calm. He was expecting that the person would actually listen to a speech. "Someone's stalking me again. I should really talk to the scientists about this. Anyways, do you have a crush on me? Do you think I'm so attractive that you can't help but follow me? Or maybe you have a more sinister reason. Maybe you want to destroy me for what I did. That's alright, I'll accept all punishment headed in my direction." A smile crept across the experiment's face. With the numeral barrier, he knew that even a bullet wouldn't pass him. "Now, if you don't end me in one swipe, that constitutes as pissing me off. And you probably don't want to stick around to find out what happens if you piss me off." The experiment stretched his hand, cracking a few bones. He wasn't the strongest-looking guys, but you know what they say. Never judge a book by its cover.

Poltergeist came to a halt not too far from the experiment when he began his speech. One swipe, huh? This was classic overpowered villain bait. He also saw rain bouncing off of something he couldn't see to avoid the guy, which he assumed to be a forcefield. Would his telekinetics affect him through it? It was a risky gamble since the guy would probably get pretty pissed if he noticed it failing. That being said, he needed to do something to it to gauge this guy's powe--

"YOU!!!" Jack-O-Lite had entered area and had spotted the experiment.
Who the shit is this?
Jack-O-Lite fired off a bolt of destructive energy towards the experiment, taking the appearance of a green glowy cloud ball thing, about as fast as a nerf dart but with no bullet drop or air resistance as factors. Poltergeist saw this and immediately thought to take advantage of it. The lighter debris from the building's destruction which wasn't too far away started flying towards the experiment. He didn't bother moving the larger pieces of debris as their weight would make the start-up too slow, which would make them useless right now.

The experiment didn't do as much as flinch. As the green glowing energy approached him, the mind of the numerals subconsciously calculated the speed of the energy flying towards him. About 16 meters per second. The energy hit the numbers, spinning around in a ball before firing straight back at the source at the same speed. "Close on-"

Before he could say anything else, light pieces of debris went flying towards him. It was barely enough time for the experiment to react. The numbers could be visible for a split second as it attempted to block the pieces of debris, but it only managed to slow it down. One piece hit the experiment's arm, right on the funny bone. The arm flinched, and the experiment began...to laugh? "That's funny...it felt tingly. I've never been hit like that before. Then again, neither have I ever tested my power in a combat scenario. Are you two, by chance, a part of the institution?" Before giving time for them to answer that question, the villain raised a hand. The symbols that previously surrounded him warped into a long arm that seemed to grip the very air itself. Within an instant, the air began to spin at high speeds, forming a powerful tornado. The experiment intended to knock his assailants off their feet, and possibly into the building.

Tony scurried after the girl when she ran behind a bank. Just before he turned the corner and faced her, he heard a big sound coming from the direction. Not once, but several times. It wasn't an explosion judging by its sound. It was more like a ...
A fist.
Tony peeked at the back of the bank and saw the girl punching at the wall repeatedly.
"Now that's where the sound came from."
He told himself. Maybe this time it won't hurt to be a hero. If the concrete breaking punch doesn't reach him.
"Hey, I don't think it's your neighbor's door you're knocking over there!"
He yelled as he faced the girl.

"Shit"
"SHIT"

Jack-O-Lite was immediately flung off towards the building. He created a green field around him of destructive energy, causing parts of the building to crumble away before he actually impacted with it. He stopped this once he actually entered the building, allowing him to roll painfully onto the floor of whatever level he had ended up on.

Poltergeist, on the other hand, had become visible and skidded across the ground quite a bit without actually flying off, putting his arms up in an X to cover his upper body. He had willingly turned off invisibility because he needed to redirect the stamina for it into more telekinetic energy which he needed to stop himself from flying off. Now what the heck was he supposed to do? He knew he could possibly stop the tornado by making the air around it spin in the opposite direction, but he was currently occupied with not flying away. He had also figured out that the guy's forcefield could be countered with surprises, which also implied he wasn't too good at multitasking, so maybe the forcefield wasn't in use at all right now...was it time?

Time to use his ultimate ability? Yes. Yes it was.

"You know, with all this air moving around, I wouldn't be surprised if it was what filled that skull of yours, with you seeming like an air-head and all. Anyway, I'm getting pretty winded by all of this, so maybe it's time to blow you away with some fancy tricks of my own!

Yes...PUNS! The most terrible and forced puns he could come up with that were relevant to this situation! Not once had it ever failed to piss off an opponent! While he was saying this, he skidded back even more and almost took off as he redirected some of the in-use telekinetic energy to grab onto the experiment's legs an attempt to pull it from underneath him.

The experiment saw the visible form of the poltergeist, though he didn't immediately recognize who it was. That was a serious problem on his own part, especially because he was rather fond of the dude being invisible. Either way, the tornado began to pick up speed, lifting the experiment off the ground. Then the puns started. "Those puns were actually, okay. I mean, they weren't anything stellar but they were decent." When the experiment felt a tug on his feet, the tornado lifted him higher into the air, attempting to stabilize him altogether. At this point, he was basically standing on a column of air. Poltergeist felt an immediate sense of relief when the tornado dissipated. He would now be able to use all the energy for keeping him on the ground for different purposes now. He saw the experiment land while smiling suspiciously, and there was immediate shaking of the ground. Earthquake? He jumped up when he felt kinetic energy about to reach him, hovering a bit above the ground. He had been pretty tired out by now, but this was a relatively lax task compared to countering a tornado.
"You doing something like that after talking about having killed an esper really shook me up, man." This wasn't a lie made up for the pun, although it probably seemed like it due to his sarcastic tone, as he had been genuinly frightened by the combination of a casual death threat followed by almost being harmed by such a large amount of energy.

It had now come to his attention that the experiment was also using a power other than the forcefield, and he suspected the multitasking aspect was still in play.
"THUNDERBALL, GO" he yelled loudly while slinging the chained 8-ball at the guy's head. The yelling, tossed 8-ball and earlier pun all combined would hopefully prove to be pretty distracting as the light debris from earlier started flying at the experiment again from a different direction. At this point his veins and eyes would be glowing bright blue as his body was now producing ectoplasm in excess to cope with the amount of telekinesis he was using, although this wasn't visible. He'd likely be able to keep this battle up for about 5 more minutes before needing to abscond.

"Unknown Numerals"
The experiment grinned. He knew that the superhero figured out that more than one part of the power couldn't be used at once, but luckily the shockwave was only a momentary lapse in power. The numerical barrier returned around the experiment, so all he had to do was gently place his hands in his pockets and watch the 8 ball. The 8 ball came flying towards the experiment rather quickly, much faster than it would take a regular human to do any sort of numerical analysis, but the numbers did it for him.

The 8 ball stopped just a few inches short of the experiment's forehead, but only for a split second. The space warped and distorted around the ball before, finally, the 8-ball was sent straight back at the poltergeist with just the same amount of speed it was thrown at the experiment with. The debris from behind were also taken into account by the numerals, and were deflected instantaneously.
"Wow. After that show of strength against the tornado I'd think you'd have more to bring to the table than that." The experiment slowly began walking forwards, this time with no signs of redirecting power away from his protective field. Pain was only a one-time thing, something the experiment would never want to feel again. On the other hand, the poltergeist may have to worry about his own 8-ball flying back at him at full speed...

Gum Meister

"Sure works for me," Gum Meister says as he follows the others. "So... what sort of this project are you working on?" He would ask the mechanic with a curious state of mind. Whatever it was, it was certainly piquing Banjo's curiosity.

If it had been any other 8-ball coming at Poltergeist at this speed, there would be no way for him to react to it in time. However, this was the goddamn thunderball......which didn't really mean much except that it was tightly attached to a chain. He saw the chain trailing behind the ball as it went towards the experiment, saw the trail stop when the 8-ball did, and saw the chain trailing the opposite direction as it came back. The ball was a small object, so he only needed to tilt his head to the side to avoid it, and caught the chain after the ball went past. He swung the ball back around in front of him and caught it in the same hand that was holding the chain.
"That was a really ballsy move right there."
He had been observing the opponent's powers for quite a while now throughout the battle, and the thing that baffled him most was those floating numbers. At last, he thought he had a theory on what the shit was happening with that. And what better way to announce it than to say it at the guy ominously walking towards him at a slow speed.

"Well duh, I'm obviously not going to spend all my stamina in one move just to gauge you....anyway, I think I've got you figured out" he said while the experiment came closer. "You're changing aspects of the physical world, mainly velocity, while making numbers appear in the air. Combine this with the fact that literally every teacher I've ever had has told me that mathematics is the language, or lifeblood, or a variation of the phrase, of the universe...and I get my conclusion"

He changed stances, pointing at the experiment in a flashy phoenix wright type of stance.

"You are the physical manifestation of math itself. The ultimate evil."

This was, of course, just another distraction. Poltergeist was waiting for the slow-walking enemy to actually reach him so that he could actually use the excess ectoplasm he had been producing for himself due to the adrenaline rushes and high amounts of telekinetics during the tornado. It would probably push his body's limits quite a bit, since he hadn't pulled anything off that quite met this scale before. Of course there was also plan B, which was also pretty good but not as ideal as plan A. If both of those failed, he likely wouldn't have any telekinetic stamina left for combat and he'd be forced to abscond.

Truth be told, he was rather terrified of seeing such a powerful foe slowly approach him like this, nearly untouchable...but he'd never dare to let the experiment see that.

Well...bring it on. He waited for the experiment to reach him.
