Dice War of Despair (Exalted 3e) - OOC

Okay, everyone. Let's get this started.

I know we are anxious to get to the war, but I want to make sure we create ties to each other so we can ground the group. So let's do that real quick.

First thing's first. Everyone introduce your character. Tell us:
  1. Who you are
  2. What you look like
  3. Where you're from
  4. What Caste you are
  5. What you're known for or good at
EDIT: SORRY! I forgot #2!

Sorry, I added one as #2 above. Can you add that as well, please?

EDIT: SORRY! I forgot #2!
1. I am Mnemon Sasha, granddaughter to Mnemon herself, making the Empress my great-grandmother.
2. Sasha is a red-headed woman, five eight in height, very athletic and muscular
3. She grew up in the Imperial City on the Blessed Isle in the Mnemon family compound
4. Dawn Caste
5. Even before her Exaltation, Sasha was known as a crack shot with a bow, having a skill with that weapon that was nearly unrivaled. Her skill in small unit tactics quickly spread through the ranks, helping her to ascend to her position as a lieutenant in the Legions, even as a mortal.

1. I am Ozric Vold, the Sorcerer King
2. Ozric stands about 5'10" with pale skin though with odd hints of bronzing now as again due to his sorcerous nature. His white hair is wild yet stylish. He favors robes of very finely woven silks and furs, though this is actually out of practically as the materials tend to be very strong and durable aside from aesthetics.
3. Vold is obviously of North stock and is known to have come down from there but never talks about it.
4. Twilight
5. Ozric Vold is a name known for both great intellect and audacity. His is the self-proclaimed Sorcerer King, a great occultist and academic whose brokered his knowledge and retrieved artifacts to grow wealthy and build himself a personal stronghold, Arcanum Keep.

1. I am Cleon Narsis, commander of the Diamond Hounds.
2. Definitely 5'10/11", with longer white hair, violet eyes, but skin tanner than Ozric's. Definitely fit, but not Sasha's level of muscles.
3. Though his looks suggest some sort of melting pot of descent - Cleon himself grew up much in the Hundred Kingdoms and other eastern Scavenger Lands.
4. Dawn Caste.
5. He's a capable fighter, but a master tactician and strategist.

One question since I couldn't find anything about this on book other than one line which is confusing. Does Martial Arts get excellencies and if they do is it separate for each style(considering it is ability+attribute I assume it is separate still want to make sure)

Once I choose a supernal (can't decide between stealth and athletics at the moment) My character seems to be done and ready.

  1. Who she is: Hadria Salar
  2. What she looks like: Hadria is 5'7", with immaculate porcelian skin, luxuriant white hair, and sapphire-blue eyes. Her lithe body is almost always garbed in extravagant dress, tailored to allow her proper freedom-of-movement when necessary.
  3. Where she's from: The city of Porcellana, which is one of the members of the Saltspire League. She's the heir to the ruling house (of merchant-nobility). The League (and Plenilune, the most prosperous of the cities, whom the League of the other cities is united against) is a collection of city-states that formed around desalination manses on the River of Tears, created by the earliest Shogunate to preserve life to the south. The River of Tears flows uphill and out of the White Sea in the North, down towards Sijan, the Scavenger Lands, and, ultimately, the Inland Sea.
  4. Caste: Eclipse
  5. Skills: She's experienced in political, social, and economic dealings. Hadria has also trained since a young age in Crane Style in order to defend herself from assassins (although she's just unlocking the Celestial aspects of the Style after her Exaltation).

About MA Excellencies... I'm not 100% sure, honestly. My instinct is that each instance of Craft or Martial Arts would get its own Excellency (which you'd automatically get when you have 1 dot in the thing, if it's Favored or Caste, or you buy that first Charm). Really, though, you're unlikely to be trying to use an Excellency in something you don't even have one-dot in, so I think that [practically] there's no difference between it being all one MA/Craft Excellency and one per style. It's rare that a Solar doesn't have an Excellency in something they actually care about. (Thank the Developer Gods that we don't have to buy them as their own Charms anymore.)

For myself, I just try to decide which Charms I'm too impatient to wait until high Essence to get. We all want to be Supernal everything, but alas, such is not to be. The free high-Essence upgrades of your Supernal might also help you decide, even if you don't have any high-Essence-requirement Charms at the moment.

As a note for the future, extra pertinent as we currently have no spells for fast travel (note to self: if Hadria gets sorcery, go for those), and after a little consulting of the best Exalted map there is, it seems like the Hundred Kingdoms (area north of Vaneha) is about 48 days by horse and 17 days by merchant ship from the Saltspire League (if it's still where it used to be, between Malice Bay and where the Silver River enters the River of Tears).

So Hadria's dreams for the Saltspire League and Plenilune may be more of a middle-to-long-term goal.

It says something about Creation that it's damn vast (especially with the additions in 3e) and yet 90% was lost in the Great Contagion, on top of the 90% lost in the Three Spheres Cataclysm.

I have two charms in mind both from miracles one is mine one is a friends. Mine is at Essence 2 friends is at Essence 5 mine is easy to get from Prerequisites friends.....lets say requires a long list of charms which gives me my dilemma

Heads up, I might be changing my Shaping Ritual to the Dreaming one. I forgot Ozric was pulled down here by his dreams.

And here I was ready to watch you feed off of the inevitable Limit Breaks. :D

Well, props to your friend for getting that Charm made. It's incredibly similar to an ability I gave a reoccurring antagonist Slayer in a Solar/Lunar game I ran (back then I justified it as, well, more what an Evocation would be now). It was awesome to see something that wasn't just what I had to cobble together myself.

That said, your own Charm looks really like something I'd imagine your character doing... but Essence 5 would certainly be a bigger direct payoff for Essence, once you get there (supposing we aren't, you know, Essence 4 at the time).

Really getting all the crazy stuff you can from Stealth Supernal would certainly feed into the Ebon Shadow playstyle.

My friend actually wanted a charm that mimics kagebunshin no jutsu :P For me well I was not sure what I wanted for my charm and Morke came up with it and lets say I loved it. By the way Ebon Shadow Style is something I fought hard to put on book (like for seconds to get the MA pledge on kickstarter :P)

Ah, well, Shadow Clones are a little less like the Adorjani Slayer had... She could, essentially, temporarily possess a group of her mortal followers, allowing her to do attacks from them (downside, they didn't get her soak). It to create the nice illusion that she could be any of these hooded figures, and each one was a threat, but once you attacked/killed one, you knew that one wasn't her. Ah, I cannot wait to try to recreate the Jester Veridian with Sanguine Smile in Ex3... in the half-decade or more before we get GSPs. ;-)

The stretch goal I was the most excited about at the time was Anathema, since it would be so nice to have a quality program to help with character creation (especially when I pull in players new to Exalted and/or tabletop roleplaying, as I am doing in a game I'm starting next week). But, hey, the Ex3 KS curse is real.
Glad you got us Ebon Shadow. It's always been a favorite in groups I've played in.

1. I am Lumen Magna, the Knight of Solerus! I come to slay undead and bring the light of the sun to all the land!
2. I'm a massive, 8' 10" giant of a man in full articulated plate, carrying a large shield and a reaver daiklaive. Underneath the armor, I'm light-skinned with auburn hair, hazel eyes, and a fairly sizable gut. In terms of build, incredibly stocky even at my large size.
3. I'm from a small village on the edge of the Scavenger Lands. It's so old that all but one of its members had no clue what it was called, and the one who did was so old he had gone senile and couldn't speak coherently.
4. Well, seeing as there's a massive sun painted onto my armor, I'm pretty sure I'm a Zenith Caste.
5. Killing undead is my name, and rescuing people is my game - wait that doesnt make sense...

Oh well. That's all you need to know about me!

I'm going to put up the character sheet as soon as I get his intimacies worked out and I figure out how best to format it.

And our high-Intelligence (or is it high-Wits?) knight gives us our Zenith!
I can't decide if I think he's Resistance or Athletics Supernal...
How about a silver dinar on Resistance.

I'm sure we'll never get confused about talking to the Night and the Knight. ;D

High Wits, but on the Supernal part, I'll be taking that dinar. He's actually Melee Supernal, but he is high in Resistance, so you weren't too far off.

I know what you mean. There's an Infernals 3e homebrew, I need to see if it's been updated.

UnassumingBoxCat UnassumingBoxCat He can't be Melee Supernal if he's a Zenith. Only Athletics, Integrity, Performance, Lore, Presence, Resistance, Survival, and War. Caste can become Supernal, Favored cannot. This makes it so that, to be an attack ability Supernal, you have to be Dawn.
So I'll be keeping that dinar.
Also, the Int/Wits was more a bit of sarcasm about his "way of speaking" in your answers.

Blackadder Blackadder You must tell me where this glorious thing is.

From what I feel like you're going for, maybe a wording like... "Lumen Magna is unwilling or unable to further his cause or aid the suffering."
That way it's also something that if he just, for some reason (like persuasion, which isn't coercion/forcing), says "who cares about the undead or all these people they're murdering" he gets Limit.

Alas for insufficient Infernal glories, but still much appreciated. I'm trying to keep abreast of the bigger fanworks out there (especially for things as far down the pipe as Infernals). I'll just admit that, out of those that existed in 2nd Edition, Solars are the least exciting to me. :-S Everyone else just has more cool flavor.

Some disagreement on that - Dragon-Bloods are the least to me - but definitely the Infernals and Abyssals have that superior cool flavor.
