Fat Gandalf's Bar & Lounge (OOC chat) - Chapter One

- All.  Herc is correct when he mentions the non-mingling between officers and non-officers when grabbing a beer.  Though Toph and Herc are T.A.S.C. and A.T.A.C., at Eglin ASC base, the grunts and tankers almost always eat at the mess hall while the officers typically enjoy the Officer's Club. Separately.

The only exception to this is when dining off-post at what few restaurants and bars there are, and of course, such meals comes out of the diner's pocket and into the small, but thriving, local economy around Elgin ASC base.

Even off-post, it's not a good idea for officers and enlisted to be seen too often together; such "eating of forbidden fruits" has forcibly altered or ended more than one military career.

But on-post, as Herc and Toph are right now, their chatting like this is quite satsfactory under the rules of military etiquette.  =)

As long as Herc's girl-shyness doesn't cause his head to implode.

Once again, catch up on in-game before reading this spoiler, if you please.

Game Master thinking out loud:  Some in-game posts are harder to write for their content than others, but this one was a doozy...

Well, that sucks for Mario.  Damn that a-hole General Steele for shutting me down like that.

- Psychie, Cap'n.  Something I should point out concerning Herc.  During this chat with Toph, he mentions Anti Unification League cells in the area - Psychie would definitely be of a mind that AUL presence on Eglin base is all but unknown to nearly everyone on-post.  In fact, Toph had no idea they were anywhere near the base until last night's adventure.

So, she is well within her rights to think, "how in the hell does this big Greek guy have any clue that the AUL are here when I just found out last night?"

Just sayin'.  =)

Check my logic here, guys.  I am thinking that no matter what, all of us would have been told to 'take a walk' for one reason or another, and the 'special unit' that we are going to be a part of is going to be completely under the table and not a part of the ASC active rolls at all.  Who else is on the same page as I am here?

-Sherwood.  Oh, so you think that Herc and Toph failed because I whispered them and told them to write that?  No, those characters were told to walk without any of my help (no disrespect intended, folks).

Remember, I told you guys from the get-go that it was possible to fail to get into this special unit.  You are not automatically successful just because you are player characters.  Just like in Real Life, if you blow it, the army will definitely find somebody else.  Robotech: Broadsword is in no way dependent upon your characters making it into this special team.  Your failure changes things, but does not stop the game in any way.

I did not lie to you - my games and stories are not set; they go where you and the winds take them (unless you ask me to railroad you).  You of all people in my Sharseya Online games for the past 2 1/2 years+ should know that.  =)

Put another way, face it; you failed.  The "man to please" here was never Professor Stein nor Colonel Sharp but the big boss of the base, General Steel.  You remember Steel, don't you, Sherwood?  How do you think he is going to react when things like this take place?

What your characters did in your prologues directly affected what happened today.  Think about it this way - do you honestly think I would have Reggie in this scene at all if Herc had left him to die at the hands of the AUL?

Kaerri can tell you how the team she led in our D&D game failed badly in one particular encounter (resulting in her character's death, I might add).  I'll leave her to give the details if she chooses here.

If there is one thing I like about my own playstyle as your Game Master, it's that if my players earn it, you really earned it!  If (or rather when) you failed, you grew stronger as a result.  Just like in Real Life.  You get up.  Brush yourself off.  Ask yourself what you learned.  As players, you might not understand all that is going on "behind the GM screen," but I assure you - there is fairness on both the good guys side and the bad. The big difference between our D&D game and this new Robotech game is important though - if your character dies here, there is no rez.

So learn from your mistakes.  And grow.   =)

Heya folks!  I will try to post later today or at the latest, tomorrow.  As the story proceeds, it is my hope that things will become clearer.

In the meantime, I really appreciate the posts you have written. I think they have brought me light and happiness during this hectic, chaotic season.  Mario's latest post especially; talk about describing a situation right on the money.  I don't know what it is, Sherwood, but your posts with Mario are exceptionally good to read (and reread).  Thanks for those.  =)

I just have to get in his head, and everything comes out of that naturally.

-Sherwood.  Isn't it great when characters are so easy to reach?  =)

-Psychie.  Now here's a thought that never struck my mind.  Psychie sez, " I had a run in last night with some rather unpleasant people that said they were a part of something called the Anti Unification League, and then you mentioned that group yourself. What do you know of the AUL?"  Please please tell me that you are not a part of them."   Toph thinking that Herc might be AUL!  Wow!  There's a twist I never even considered.  =)

-All.  I'm going to pause my posting and give Kaerri a chance to catch up; it seems like the courteous thing to do.  =)

That feeling when you don't quite know how to respond to someone's RP post without some strange past-present jiggery-pokery...

Captain Hesperus

I see two ways around it, Cap'n.

1. Everyone agrees that Toph only thought of her comment moments before you made it to the end of the runway, or...

2. ...proceed to have a conversation with the tag, "Earlier" before it.

Given the circumstances (and the length of the runway), I don't mind either way.  =)

Option 1 adds an elephant of suspense to the developing plot line: "Is he an AUL infiltrator? Will he kill Toph in her sleep? Find out same mech time, same mech channel!"

Option 2 gives Kaerri time to catch up with her posts.

I'm agreeable both ways, especially with my current RL difficulties.

An "elephant" of surprise, he says!  Methinks good ol' Auto-correct has struck again!  =)

Haven't you ever heard the expression "pay no attention to the elephant in the room?" That must be it.  :smile2:

I can attest to the fact that Sherwood has been this way for many, many years and shows no sign of changing course!  =)

Hey @Sherwood!  So what is your opinion of General Steel?  Not quite the guy he was back in Special Agent, huh?  While Colonel Sharp has largely remained his good ol' reliable self, this "General Steel 2.0" decided to shake off the portly, incompetent bumbling of old and draw upon a whole new character with (somehow) the same reputation as Steel 1.0.

I don't like playing this guy, but at the same time, I'm really having fun with every word of this game.  =)

Oh.  And, @Psychie?  I recently saw this picture and I couldn't help but think, "I bet that's the way Toph might feel inside if somebody approached her and said, 'Hey, a little girl like you shouldn't be trying to fly big mechs.'"  Am I wrong?

He's definitely a hard-ass, but I knew he wasn't going to be my best friend going into this.  I just need to decide just how Mario would react to this, now that he's being confronted by The Man himself.
