My Interest Check
heavy quotes on that “cringey” there, it’s a loaded term ;-).

we have seen certain interests get mocked relentlessly by the internet before, whether that be anime or stuff like five night’s at freddy’s. stuff that actually isn’t bad (there definitely is some stuff written by gross people that I think we should try to stay away from. don’t get into a “separating art from the artist” argument here please, that’s a conversation for another day/a separate thread.) so, some people feel like they need to “hide” certain interests and things they like.

so, what’s one thing that you like that you feel like is seen as “weird”? for me, i fucking love vocaloid/vocal sythns. the technology and the producers who use vocaloid is so cool to me, but it’s def seen as something “strange” because “haha it’s anime robots”, which is a very big simplification of what the technology even is.

For me it's cosplay in general because I'm not supposed to like it at this age 🥲

VOUCH, I'm going to stay up to the dead hours just to watch the virtual Miku Expo since it got cancelled this year :'[ I'm soo hype for Utsu-p and Pinocchio-p to do the live set... ahjvdvikwb
Vocaloid and other voice synths only recently got popular again for some reason and it's so funny to see new fans get information wrong, but it's really endearing and I'm happy people aren't bashing it as much anymore ^^
Other than that I have a ton of cringey interests, some of which I'm too embarrassed to even say here, but some of the ones I am okay with sharing:
-Ape Escape, It's my favorite game and even though it's really silly and meant for kids I adore it! The second game is my favorite one but the third one also goes hard, the first one is too difficult for me (playing on psp is HELL) but I watched the clips online. I FC'd 2 and 3 and have merch from it... I love the monke. Currently I'm waiting for million monkeys to get an english translation or for me to get a Japanese PS2 and finally cave to collecting PS2 games like I've been wanting to do for years.
-Speaking of, PS2 games. Most people I know drool over new graphics and leap for the new system the second it's out, and while I can also admire the lifelike graphics and new hardware being made, I am absolutely addicted to the low-poly feature-packed era of playstation. I adore how you can see the passion poured into every last pixel in old videogames, there were so many more creators and so many more little additions in all the games that have been swept under the rug over the years. Every so often I find a game that hasn't had any search hits in years buried on small blogs from decades past, and I will never get tired of the exhilaration from finding something forgotten but beautiful.
-Sanrio and plushies. Again, it got popular again in recent years but I got laughed at for buying a Pompompurin plush on a school field trip in the past. When I was really young I thought Hello-Kitty was the only character under the Sanrio umbrella but soon I found a lot more and I was hooked on Pompompurin and Keroppi. I've collected quite a few plushies for Sanrio over the years and plushies in general, I like em, what can I say.

I dunno if any of y'all remember that one video that got popular a few years back of a bunch of cyber goths dancing under a bridge... People made fun of them by adding different background music to the video (like Thomas the tank engine music lol)
But I actually really like "cyber goth" music and that vid led me down a rabbit hole of people that actually dance to that sort of music and it added a lot of stuff to my playlists. I'm not a cybergoth myself nor do I dress that way but I really like the music lol. Lots of people in those YouTube comment sections are rude though by calling them freaks and weirdos when they're not hurting anyone :/

Mine's Undertale. It's a cute and nicely written game. Yes I am willing to die on this hill

Also, I guess furry stuff to some extent? I'm mainly interested in werewolves so all my "furry characters" are only furries occasionally, but I think it counts lol.

I still really like Pokemon. The new games are too easy so I stick to ROM hacks like Blaze White 2, but I enjoy them a lot. I've never RPed within the genre, mind you, because it's mainly younger kids and teens. And for a while I was still sorta kinda into MLP too because I just really liked Luna.

...Did I mention I never grew out of my furry phase? Or my emo phase. Or any of my phases.

Pokemon games are great games.

MLP all the way! I started watching the show in 2011, and it was my #1 favorite show until it ended in 2019. Even now I don't seem to have had enough with the show, and still enjoy videos about the show and characters. I can't believe it's been almost two years since MLP: FIM ended and I still continue consuming MLP related content on youtube as if the show was still going on.

+1 to pokemon, but i can only do nuzlockes because otherwise i get decision paralysis when putting a team together. i like all the pokemons 😔 (except ledyba)

Cringey... 🤔

I used to do tabletop roleplaying [D&D, Only War, etc], but I feel like that has become less cringe and more accepted and mainstream these days, so not even sure that counts. I say used to because I haven't since Covid and not really sure when I wanna pick it back up. I do tabletop wargaming [like Warhammer, want to get into Bolt Action] which is would fit for cringey.

I like pokemon too. I enjoy it a lot. I usually play harder romhacks like Blaze Black/Volt White, Omega Ruby, etc or fan games like Reborn because I enjoy the challenge they represent [Either by increasing the difficulty of enemy trainers, reducing your access to better pokemon, new effects or all of the above.]

Oh, and I write on roleplaying forums. Honestly, probably the most cringe thing I do. Probably the only thing I never tell people I do. I am pretty open and honest about my hobbies normally.

Bahahaha, let's pull out the list!

RP, obviously.
I adore Undertale unironically.
Furries are awesome.
Angsty music is a definite yes, mostly so I can match them up to my RP characters.
I also create headcanon OCs for most fandoms I join and script entire scenes with them and the main cast. They are completely shameless self-inserts, down to age and appearance.
Though I don't watch them as much anymore, Markiplier and Jacksepticeye are a couple of my role models, especially when it comes to work ethic.
Is Buffy the Vampire Slayer cringey? It's got handsome, brooding vampires, so probably.

The list could probably go on.

Undertale is like, legit really good. I only knew the memes for years but a friend bought me it recently and I've been streaming it for them. It absolutely captured my heart with it's charm.

For me...I'm not doing it right now but at some point I want to start cosplaying. Or well, more like larping. I want a full set of armor, basically, because knights are rad

I'm a fully grown male and I'm one of those Disney freaks.

I own every single animated movie they ever made, including those garbage direct-to-video sequels.
I own a large amount of live-action/hybrid/CGI-remake movies (frankly Disney has made too many).
I have ever sing-along video and the classic Mickey cartoon they put on DVD.
I arranged a bunch of framed pictures of spots in the park to look like a castle on my wall.
I have a crap ton of Thomas Kinkade artwork hung up all over the place.
I own every Disney LEGO set and am currently buying up a lot of the Creator Expert buildings to recreate a Main Street, U.S.A. (and I'm almost done) to go with my Disney Castle and I have light sets for everything.
I bought a mini projector and a large box and a model replica of the Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom to project firework shows onto so I can recreate those nighttime spectaculars whenever I want.
Before the pandemic, I went to the parks frequently, and I have a bunch of "perfect" itineraries for all of the parks in the world, with World having several itineraries on its own based on how many days I would want to spend there on a trip. I've USED said itineraries to great success and periodically update them as new things (rides or events and of course based around the season) come out.

And I don't have the tiniest bit of shame for it.

I don't know is Minecraft still cringy? Or Cosplaying? I always got made fun of for liking both and I still feel really self conscious about both of them growing up. Also as someone that's going to minor in world history....perhaps liking Hetalia is extremely cringe of me.

I share the downright love for Undertale and I will even add, my fave character is Sans, I know the whole community with Sans has generally hit the fan but still the comedic skeleton is my favorite character.

Also Idk how cringy it is but I am equally as obsessed with Friday Night Funkin' - it's awesome.

And yes I still RP both of these fandoms. Probs won't stop either.

I also still like Pokemon but am not as obsessed with it as I used to be.

Hmmmm, I would have to say Undertale, FNAF, and probably roleplaying. My parents already can't understand why I like anime and K-Pop,, so I'm not even going to try explaining roleplaying to them lol.

Disney, lol. Adults who love Disney get so much hate. A lot of people hate us so much and I honestly don’t get it but I’m pretty traumatized from it already.

Also ASMR, fanfiction, and I’ve never told anyone irl about my roleplaying hobby and I don’t plan to because they already judge me enough for my other interests😂

Oh! And romance novels. I used to get picked on SO MUCH for reading romances back at my old job that I couldn’t even read at work without someone making fun of me. 😔so all my hobbies basically, rofl.

Reading Wikipedia articles/Wiki-walking.
While it's not necessarily frowned upon, I can't really say that as a hobby because it just seems like a weird flex. Like something a 13-year-old trying to seem smart would say.

As a whole gay who grew up with 2 sisters, a lot of my childhood interests were "girl" things like Barbie, High School Musical... etc., etc. While it's less of a thing now, the comments were annoying when I was younger.

Also, online roleplaying in and of itself is "cringey" in some circles, so I guess we all have one. 😆
