Welcome to Tanis, a lost continent, filled with alien races, human shipwreck survivors, and prehistoric life.

Tanis was named after one of the human explorers, William Tanis, of the pirate fleet that eventually brought human civilization to the continent. He was one of the first great explorers, sort of a Marco Polo or Lewis and Clark, though his skills were really those of an archaeologist. He is something of a legend, though it is doubtful he was great as the stories suggest.
The overall climate of Tanis is that of the South Pacific. Mountains do create some natural elevational climates as well as deserts. Winds generally blow from the West. People have tried to leave Tanis in the past, none with success. There is a barrier reef that surrounds the continent. And each time a vessel approaches the barrier a massive storm arises. Sometimes wreckage and bodies make it back. But more often than not the Gorka enjoy a feast.
The Humans
ca 1400 BC - Ancient Egyptian fleet returning from a seagoing expedition are washed onto the shores of Tanis.
1274 and 1281 AD - Mongolian ships from the first and second invasions of Japan were washed onto the shores of Tanis. (Please note that these were Mongols, not Japanese.)
1715 - Two fleets arrived. One of the Knights Templar. The other, a Spanish Treasure fleet convoy. The fleet wrecked in the northwest at the spot marked Shipwreck. The Spaniards currently control the northwestern shore of the continent. (Nothing human really controls the Rainy Basin or Great Desert.) The Templars were forced to withdraw to the south and eventually settled at Sauropolis. They eventually expanded across the continent.
The Story Arc
This story revolves about the arrival of a young man named Alex, who is found near the fortified town of Grindstone (far northeast point). When found he is extremely ill, delirious and showing signs of being poisoned. His hands indicate he’s hardly ever seen a day of hard labor. His face is boyish; his skin fine, almost delicate. His very strange clothing is oddly clean and shows no sign of wear … or seams, buttons, lacing …
