you weave down the dimly-lit sidewalks of your college campus, head tucked beneath a hood. you're determined not to create a public incident tonight. you will be as normal as any young adult perusing the town in the dead of night.

you hear a distant howl. you pick up your pace.

you run errands. it's the only time you can, really. no matter what lurks in the dark; you're not afraid of most things other people are.

it's almost dawn now. you have an appointment with your professor first thing in the morning- you can't be late.

you're five minutes late. you enter the lecture hall. you don't find the professor, but seven other students. you can tell within a single moment that they are somehow, impossibly like you.

you notice the journal first. it's an ornate, ancient-looking thing, splayed firmly across his desk. you notice the neat lettering, immaculate handwriting. it details things he couldn't have, shouldn't have known. about your kind. about theirs. but no- he's definitely human. how could he...?

then you notice why the professor hasn't greeted you yet. what the others are staring at.

the body of your professor.

dead.

hello all, and welcome to this friendly-neighborhood interest check! i've been re-watching being human (us), and i've been craving a roleplay inspired by the whole 'opposite of glamorizing the supernatural' thing. though this roleplay isn't set in the exact same universe as the show, it's pretty directly inspired by it, but it isn't necessary at all to have watched to show to join the roleplay! all you'll need will be in the lore thread (which will be linked to soon!)

basic premise is, you have seven supernatural young adults of varying species (and one human, perhaps?) attending college, trying their best to be normal, until bam- the new professor ends up dead. on his desk, they find a journal full of information on different supernatural creatures that he couldn't have possibly known if he was a normal human. now, the students have to juggle college, masquerading as 'normal', and finding the origins of the journal, while being pursued by different supernatural factions and an unseen force working in the shadows. i really hope that sounds fun, lol

first, let's get some housekeeping rules out of the way: this is an lgbtq+ and poc friendly rp. no racism, homophobia, antisemitism, transphobia, anti-capybara propaganda, or any general bigotry. while this roleplay will delve into some dark themes, anything triggering ooc will need a trigger warning, just for the comfort of all members.

speaking of, let's get some general triggers out of the way for this roleplay: body horror, blood/gore, death, mild cannibalism (is it cannibalism if they're not human? idk), and definitely some more stuff i don't remember right now. just take this as a blanket warning that there will be lots of dark and disturbing themes, though the amount/how explicitly each player wants to write these is up to them. trigger warnings will still be used liberally.

this roleplay is not first-come, first-serve- each role will be application-based, and will be decided a week or two after i feel this has garnered enough interest. i am open to expanding the cast, however, if i feel like two characters in the same role are good fits for the roleplay!

discord will be required for this roleplay- i just much prefer communication on there, it's a lot easier! plus tuppers are fun, lol. once this piques enough interest, i will post a discord link- once roles are chosen, the entire server will open up for those who made it in to plot and mess around!

thank you so much for reading all this and bearing with me! i'm so excited to roleplay with you guys!

oh, and don't forget to scroll down and check out the roles! :D

roles:
the werewolf - is it a boon or a curse that you're only a monster one night of the month? that for the other 27 days, you're blissfully human? does that make you more human- or does it make the beast inside that much more horrifying once it finally breaks loose?

the vampire - immortality is a prize many seek out. but to you, the price is scarce worth it. the bureaucracy. the games. the hunger. what's the point of an eternal life, when that life is spent in hell?

the ghost - since your death six months prior, you've roamed the college's buildings, barely a whisper in people's minds. you're a shadow- unnoticeable, imperceptible. nobody to talk to, no shoulder to lean on, no closure.

the medium - their echos haunt you. their voices are constant. they beg for release, release they're certain only you can grant, but you can't answer all of their prayers. you help the ones you can, banish the ones you must, but the dead never rest.

the witch - the knowledge passed down to you feels older than time itself, more binding than anything else youโ€™ve known. you might be human, yes- but are you, really? not when you have so much power at your fingertips, waiting only for the right sacrifice to ignite.

the siren - your mind might not remember that you drowned, but your body does. it remembers every time it draws you back to the sea, to the same spot your life was stolen. it remembers every time you weave your unnatural songs, tapestries within music. it remembers every time you take a life to restore your own. oh, how far you've sunken.

the attuned - when did you first learn of your ability to control your unique force of nature? that your powers hang on to your every word like a drunken lover, that you keep running back to them like an addict to their fix. but like any toxic relationship, itโ€™s always self-destructive- and will only end going up in flames.

the human - you never listened to the warning heeded by your parents, always brushed off their offerings of holy water and silver daggers even as you went off to college on your own. but now itโ€™s seeming like those stories might not have just been stories- and that he things that go bump arenโ€™t bound to the night.
