Fantasy What are you thinking. . . ?

EraError

Boldly going nowhere!

Some years ago, before everything had fallen into ruin. The leaders of our land, thought it would be most beneficial to unseal the beast known as Rozwen. Not knowing they had all been lied to they did just that. Their previous plans to use her power to dominate, destroy, and conquer lands beyond their reach. Had now turned into a struggle to keep the land the people, and hope alive.

The fortunate, now live in large cities, protected by the magic of
Eniarrol. A mage that gave his life to seal Rozwen in the barren wastes she had created after being released. He had used his magic and his life to protect all the people of Salintus, but of course there was no cure for the greed of the human heart. The once proud leaders of the land of Salintus, used there influence and the power to make it so no one without coin could live in safety.

The unfortunate, the castaways, the fighters of Salintus. They live in fear, but they live.

Its true Aria had lived a sheltered life, never wanting for anything, never needing anything and never having to fear for her life. Aria lived in The Realm of Gyles, one of the five protected cities, it was known for its lush greenery, and fertile land. Until today she had never even seen the barrier let alone set foot outside it. But she had finally made up her mind, she had a goal to achieve a name to make for herself and the only way she could do it was by ending this battle. "I'm already 26 and I've done nothing with my life in all these years," whispering she placed her hand on her weeping mothers shoulder trying to comfort her. "I'm sorry I wont change my mind." Her mother turned and threw her arms around her, her teary eyes pleading for Aria to reconsider. "Please don't tell father and until I have left our property, by then there will be no way to stop me." Her mother still weeping as she rushed from the front door, she could hear her mother screaming for her father the moment the door closed. "I knew she wouldn't wait, but what was I expecting." With a flash of golden light Aria vanished.

Even as she approached the border people darted back and forth busy, smiling, and laughing. None of them even paused to look outside the barrier. Right there in front of them was a plain view of what type of world they truly lived in. "Blinded by lies, distorted by pride, this is your everyday life!" Aria started to sing loudly as she skipped past the barrier guards, a look of confusion plastered across their faces. Just then with a flash of gold she was thrown back onto the paved path. Groaning she sat up and sure enough standing over her was her father. "You foolish idiotic child," Reaching down he grabbed her up and shook her feverishly. "what were you thinking?! Did you think they would welcome you with open arms? That they would even let you into their dirty hovels?" His grip on her loosened and he began to drag on home. "You are too naive Aria this war is none of our concern." A small smile crept across Aria's face as she was tossed back into the house at her mothers feet. And instantly her mother knew, her father started cursing and with a puff of glittering smoke Aria, or Aria's illusion vanished.

Void sighed, staring off into the distance towards the barrier. "How foolish, a life spent in a cage is still a cage, even if said cage protects them..." He sighed, "but how can one whom hasn't seen life in there assume they aren't aware of this?" He sighed again, casually twiddling his thumbs. "If only I could get in there to spread the word, or at least see if they know..." He smiled, thinking up ideas on how he could get in. "Maybe I could-" "Void!" Void stood up, blinking, wondering who could be calling him this time. "Get over here and help me load the cart to send to those privileged people whom live in safety." Void sat up, a look of excitement on his face, knowing a good way to enter, but only if it would work.

As the wind blew Aria coughed and gasped for air, the stench or decay and filth lingered in the air. Inside the barrier the air was always so sweet, "How could anyone live in this?" She asked herself as she walked away from the barrier. She wasn't far from the the protected city when she came across the first unfortunate. Naively she ran up to the stranger a grin pasted across her face, with her hand outstretched she spoke politely. "Hello wandered of the wastes!" The man looked at her and immediately smacked her hand away. A bit taken aback Aria tried to speak but before she could form her words she was pushed to the ground and spat on. "I only wished to..." She was cut off as his fist came crashing down. It missed as she ported a few feet away in the nick of time. "Take you privileged ass home before I kill you, you rotten bitch." Aria sat there unable to speak, it was as her father had said. She hadn't expected them to have a parade but that reaction was too much.

Void was well on his way to entering the city via the cart, looking around hopefully for signs of nearing it when the cart stopped. Void got up and left the cart, not wishing to be found by touch. Void slowly walked around, noticing a man standing over a girl on the ground. "Hmm, I wonder what's going on over there..." Void slowly walked over, hardly noticeable except for a shimmer in the air as he walked, standing behind the man, observing.

"That is no way to treat another human begin you monster." Aria climbed to her feet dusting herself off she raised her hand ready to send the man flying but then stopped as she noticed something shimmering amongst the dusty breeze. "Father?" She thought as she began backing away. "No he would never travel outside the barrier." Her eyes darted as she grumbled under her breath. "I wont be bothered with people like you." Quickly she turned and with a golden glow began to walk away.

Void raised an eyebrow, surprised slightly. "Hmm, refusing to strike someone? Definitely someone from the barrier..." Void smiled, following the strange girl from a distance, refusing to be seen, yet still indulging in his curiosity. "Very strange."

"I know there's someone there." Aria shouted nervously and turned on her heel the golden glow that had surrounded her before took shape and formed two duplicates of her. With three of her standing there exchanging glances she smiled confidently, and in a moment the three of them burst into different directions. The only bad thing about duplicates was when they were hit hard enough they would shatter into nothing, so she had to be quick. "Whoever you are, you can deal with that rude old fart!" The tree of them spoke as one. Aria had no intention of getting spat on again.

Lindy looked up at the sky from on top of the wagon where she was shirking her duties. A million thoughts were racing through her brain, but she couldn't catch hold of any of them. This had all happened too quickly... and the wounds to her pride went too deep. Her new "commander" was yelling at the new recruits... he hadn't even noticed she was gone yet... a good thing since he hadn't shown himself to be a very understanding man. Sighing, she rolled on to her belly and peeked over the side. There was a whole mess of swords she was supposed to be polishing. Silently rolling off the top of the wagon, she began her work. In a little while they would begin the training exercises... inwardly she cringed and settled for looking at the sky in the reflections of the blades.

Back aching, Lindy had been trying to block out a ruckus in the background. Turning to get a better look, Lindy put down her rag and looked over at what seemed to be triplets talking to themselves... wait... they were speaking at the same time. Leaning back a little to peer out from behind the wagon, Lindy was a little confused. Shaking her head, 'privileged...' she thought. a few moments out of the barrier, and they went crazy. Glancing back to her commander, Lindy began picking her way towards the three crazies. Maybe she would get a reward for taking them back to the barrier? Probably not... but oh well. Putting her hands in her pocket, she decided to shirk her duties once again and throw herself into the fray.

Still running wild, one of her duplicates almost instantly ran into a young woman shattering the moment it made contact. She stopped in her tracks to turn in look, because sometimes when they shattered they could cause damage. "Dangit. . ." She sighed heavily and made her way towards the stranger, she just couldn't leave. The thought of someone being harmed pointlessly made her stomach turn. "Whoever you are," Aria looked out into the nothingness, speaking at the stranger that had been watching her. "wherever you are, just be cool, I can only take so so much." She didn't want a repeat of her encounter with that old man. "Are you alright?" She spoke softly as she cautiously approached the young woman. "I uh, cant really control those darn duplicates when they get too far." Laughing nervously she looked her over..

Oof! Lindy thought she was being observant... but apparently not. One of the triplets ran straight into her, nearly knocking her down. Lindy opened her eyes to apologize but... the girl was no longer there? A cloud of gold dust slowly dissipated. Ah... She always had been a sucker for magic. She looked at the remaining girls... they... she... was speaking to the air again. Just my luck... a magical crazy. Lindy resigned herself to a smile. "No harm done. I was just coming over to check on you... and to see if you need an escort back to the barrier." She looked at the girl warily. Lindy always fell for magical tricks... she just didn't have the eye or know-how to spot magic until it was too late. Still smiling, she wished she would have thought to bring some kind of weapon with her... oh well. This girl looked harmless enough.

"Ah! That's good, that's great even." She smiled cheerfully and let out a sigh of relief. "Yay, she didn't spit." She thought to herself as she lifted her hand forcing the other duplicate to shatter. "And, thank you but no, I wont be setting foot back in that place until this battle has ended and everyone can live peacefully." Her father crossed her mind and she grimaced. "At least not willingly." She added and look suspiciously over her shoulder. "Why are you so face from the settlement?" Asking as she looked the young lady over, she could tell by the way she was dressed that she wasn't from inside the barrier, and the nearest settlement so some time away. "Oh, how rude of me!" Aria smoothed down her hair and straightened her clothes, then bowed politely. "Hello, wander of the wastes, My name is Aria Relaenna Dortalos!" She extened her hand and smiled cheerfully.

Lindy could help but chuckle at the naivety. "You'll be waiting some time then Miss Dortalos..." she grinned "and as for why I'm here, my commander asked me very nicely to join the military, and being the self-sacrificing person that I am... I accepted." She still had bruises from just how "nicely" she was asked. Speak of the devil... she could hear the shouting as her commander tried to spot her. Maybe she could get away with saying she had to use the bathroom? "Well Miss, if you don't mind, I've got to be getting back now. Good luck with your peace." Lindy shook the young lady's hand. "The name's Lindy." Then she sprinted off, hoping she wouldn't get punished for leaving her post. Maybe she would see the young lady later and introduce herself properly.

Void had watched this encounter, surprising himself with how long he's kept the spell up. "Interesting..." Void smiled softly, lowering the spell, appearing a little bit away from Aria. "Very interesting..." Void nods, chuckling softly.

"Do this, do that... nya nya nya." Lindy let the various sharp objects clamor on her little work bench. The old jerk had cuffed her, but had done little damage. She sighed, he just handed her extra work. She was too "frail" for the training so he said... though she wasn't complaining. It was pretty difficult for her to swing a sword... Bows were more her thing... daggers if she got in a pinch. So she got stuck with polishing weapons and fetching water if needed. Curs she thought angrily. After a time though, she once again stopped doing her work in favor of drawing on the bench with a dagger.

Void hummed, practicing his illusion magic upon himself, focusing on a single emotion and working to create said emotion with illusions, for as he likes to say "Illusions are as much art as they are a distraction." Soon he was lost in his own illusions, thin curly wisps of smoke coming off of him.

Sadrius just wandered along the wastes aimlessly like he usually did. He eventually spotted the usual team of soldiers here to take him back over the barrier. The commander of the troop approached him, "Sadrius Garland, charged with theft, murder, and resisting arrest come along quietly and face the punishment that awaits criminals!" He chuckled and stared directly in the eyes of the commander. "And if I don't?" He already knew the answer but he needed the exercise. "T-then you'll be executed on the spot." The commander's confidence wavered as soon as Sadrius drew his broadsword. He tried to impale him on the spear but Sadrius best him to the punch, killing the commander by stabbing him through the chest. The other soldiers looked on and fled almost immediately afterwards. Sadrius sheathed his blade and continued on.

Her work finished, Linden took to practicing her bow. Since she didn't have to hunt for food anymore, she didn't want to get rusty. There was something calming and absolute in the dull thud of the arrows as they hit Lindy's mark one after the other. She was shooting at a relatively large tree... If she was going to survive the war she needed to be... better. A frown was fixed on her face as the repetitive noise sent her almost in a trance. What was this stupid war about anyway? All she wanted was to be left alone. After shooting her last arrow, Lindy sighed and made her way to wrench the arrows from the tree. Technically she hadn't missed, but the shots were too far spread for her to feel successful. An arrow broke off into the tree "Ah Hex..." she cursed under her breath. Taking her dagger out, she began trying to dig out the precious arrow head.

Aria watched as the young lady she no knew as Lindy walk off. "What did she mean bye that?" She looked down at her still extended hand and quickly let it drop to her side. "Good luck with my peace. . . ? That comment sounded a bit snide." Mocked, stalked and assaulted, Arias first hours outside the barrier were proving to be not at all what she thought they would be. But she wasn't planning on letting that deter her. She had a goal to achieve after all. The barrier could still be seen from where she was, even though Aria knew she had been walking for over an hour now. "It shimmers. . ." On the inside of the barrier she couldn't see this, there was always nothing but sky. "It's beautiful it must be torture to look upon it and not be able to touch it." She stood there surrounded by all the the decay and felt a twinge of anger, "Is this something they feel?"

Void watches Aria, humming softly, barely putting any effort into his invisibility spell, shimmering while standing still. Void silently wonders why this strange girl, quite easy to identify as someone from behind the barrier, would even bother being out here. 'How rare, I mean barrier dwellers have came out here before, but those are normally either exiles or people of great skill whom barely compare to most of our average soldiers." Void sat there, shimmering as he thought, wondering what reasons anyone would have to leave the safety of the barrier, let alone this girl. "Interesting, very interesting..."

"Tch maybe I'm still being stalked." Aria nostrils flared as a second glint caught her eye. She sighed and spoke in a low tone. "I don't know who you are or who sent you, but you better come out now!" Her eyes darted to the source of the faint shimmer, and a golden dust started to surround her hand. "If you don't want to be sent flying come out now!" She raised her hand and a duplicate carrying a great sword emerged.

Void smiled, dropping the spell and stepping forward. "Pretty good illusion, though it would be a tad bit more impressive if you did something like," Void concentrates, conjuring an illusion of a fully armored knight wielding a greatsword with a long bow on it's back, "that." Void dispelled the illusion, chuckling. "Then again, can't assume you barrier dwellers are good or have any reason to practice those skills, so that might just be your best." Void put his hand up to his chin, thinking. "Wow that must be a shame, most 10 year olds around here can do better duplicates, then again, most of them are taught by me, so I guess that's to be expected." Void holds out his hand. "Name's Void, though most call me sekeolath, and who are you and how did you come to our...wonderful lands?"

"You people. . ." Aria bit her tongue, "Yes an armored monster very nice." Rolling her eyes she looked to her duplicate and with a swift flick of her wrist it vanished in a cloud of golden dust. "Not every illusionist is the same, now stop following me, I find myself losing my patience." She turned trying to hurry on her way but his words nagged at her sending sparks flying in the back of her mind. Her back still turned to him she spoke slowly. "Do not assume you know everything that goes on behind a barrier, some place that you can not reach, can not see!" She clutched her fist tightly and cleared her throat. It was true that shes lived a privileged and sheltered life, but that did not stop her from training each day til she was completely drained and could not stand. "And I will no longer assume I know everything that happens in a place where I have just set foot. I'll do well to mind my own business from now on, as to avoid you curt people. So you should do the same." She had no intention to share her thoughts or beliefs any longer.

Void shrugged, lowering his hand. "And I thought people out here were annoying..." Void whispered. "Ahem, well sorry miss fancy pants, that I don't know much about your oh so great life living in that barrier." Void thought for a second, a fine dark mist covering his hand. "And sorry that apparently have offended you somehow, but that's still not a reason to be rude." Void turned around, humming as a dark cloud covers him, causing him to walk off into the distance, looking like a silhouette, muttering.. "Are all those uppity little people in there like that? Oh I bet so, not like they know what it means to starve or to show respect to those they've just met in case they might be helpful...just another reason that barrier needs to be taken down." Void stopped after a while, checking to see if the girl could still see him before he dropped the illusion.
