Realistic or Modern Westbrook: On The Road (The First Official Spinoff)

Winona

No, I don't have too many characters.
Yes, that's right.

The Westbrook mess of kids are going on a road trip, from Westbrook, Maine all the way to LA. What a trip.

This will be occurring over the summer between Season 2 and 3, so try not to mention spoilers seeing as how while this is happening, Season 2 will still be going on. For the most part, we'll just... write this out but not mention what happened over the school year unless it already occurred in rp. Okay? Okay.
Also, every rper is limited to having one character. That can either be a Westbrookian native, or someone that the gang meets along the way and decides to let them tag along.

Any further questions can be directed to mogy mogy since he is technically in charge of this spinoff.

Without further ado, on the road we go!

Whilst imagining running away from home, Noah really didn't think about inviting half of Westbrook to join him, but somehow, he did just that, and now, he was stranded in the middle of nowhere, on the side of a road with an RV without any gas. And thinking that the situation couldn't get worse than that, they were in Indiana. In fucking Indiana. The state of unsolved murders. These Westbrook kids were bound to end up dead in a ditch somewhere, their murderer will most probably never be found. A proper ending for a group of misfits and good-for-nothings.

The trip so far had been nothing short of a disaster. Sharing a small living space with so many messy individuals was so fucking annoying and Noah wanted to slash his own wrists every time he would find a dirty sock somewhere, which happened surprisingly frequently.

The day had barely started, and Noah had already found 4 different socks which didn't have an owner, at least not one who would be brave enough to take responsibility. All of the socks were probably Stu's, but Noah wouldn't point fingers since it was way to early for that and Noah still hadn't had his morning coffee. Seeing how the damn RV didn't have any gas, he wouldn't even be able to cook some, and that meant others were stuck with grumpy Noah for the rest of the day, or at least until they found gas or coffee. A gas station with Coffee2Go would be the best find for the group at the moment.

"Well, it wasn't my fucking fault the RV ran out of gas! I wasn't the one who left the light turned on, was I!?" Noah was pissed, and with reason. They were stranded in fucking Indiana.

So, let her make something very clear. She had not wanted to come onto this ridiculous road trip -- for what had felt like the first time in her life, Ash actually hadn't been that set on getting the hell out of that miserable Maine town. However, Noah had made her. Or, well, convinced her to go, and although she had tried to ditch when she saw Stu climbing aboard the RV, Noah had made it clear that she was on this trip for the long haul. Stupid, really, but maybe it would be fun. She had always wanted to visit LA.

Although Ash had tried to be a civilized person of the 21st century and pulled up the map on her phone, Noah and Stu had scoffed at it and insisted that they knew the way there. What should have been less than a week trip quickly turned into a lot of missed exits, wrong turns, and cusses from the driver's seat. And fear from the people riding in the back. Every time Noah turned or sped up, the entire RV would lurch and the passengers would go flying into each other.

After giving up on trying to help them get to LA in a timely manner, Ash spent most of the time sitting at the table, playing cards with Bella and Maisie. One could only play rounds of Go Fish and various poker games so many times before they started to lose their mind, however, and Ash was very close to losing hers.

It was then, in Indiana, that the RV came to a sputtering stop along a back road that Stu had promised would cut time off of the trip. Instead, the road had ended up winding around so much that the RV ran out of gas. Ash had followed Noah and Stu off the RV, even muttering an "I told you so" with her arms crossed over her shoulder. And now Noah was yelling about how it wasn't his fault, but wasn't it the driver's job to keep an eye on the gas gauge and make sure they, you know, had gas?

She had been leaned up against the RV for the time being, arms still crossed, while she watched Noah throwing a fit in the heat of the Indiana summer. Thankfully, her sunglasses not only protected her from the sun's angry gaze, but also hid her blue eyes from view so that she could roll her eyes in perfect secrecy.

"There's a gas can in the back." She pushed away from the RV, and walked towards one of the storage compartments in the back. It was already open for whatever reason -- someone had probably grabbed something -- so she pulled out the gas can and walked back to the front of the RV, holding it out for Noah and Stu. "Follow the map and see if you guys can like, find a gas station. We'll stay back here and keep an eye on the RV." A grin flashed across her face. "Try not to get murdered."

Isabelle Dupont

No one was quite certain why Bella had decided to join the group from Westbrook. Hell, Bella wasn't even certain of the entire reason herself. Sure, it was mostly to get away from her family that had constantly been watching over her and monitoring her every move the past year, but there was something else. Part of Bella wanted to scare her family, make them miss her and realize that she can survive without their eagle eyes watching over her every moment. That's why she left without warning, leaving nothing but a note for her mother and sister to find when they returned home from work. Perhaps that move was a little darker than Bella usually went, but she was sure that her plan would work.

The first few days, Jackie kept calling Bella's phone, leaving voicemails that went from scared to angry to sad in tone. Bella simply responded with a text message saying she was fine and was in safe hands. She never once picked up a call. Bella finally decided to turn off her phone and stash it in her bag, ignoring the call of the world she left behind. It was time to start trying to live in the moment. After all, what good would the whole thing have been if she wasn't paying attention to the trip in favor of her phone?

Things had been fine until the RV simmered to a halt, the fumes of gas it had been running off completely gone from the vehicle. "Mr Chauffeur, did you ever stop to consider that maybe we should've had gas already in that canister? You know, in case this exact situation happened." Bella asked sarcastically, stepping off the RV into the warm sunlight. What good was an empty gas canister with no gas inside?

Bella laughed as Ash told Noah and Stu not to get murdered on their hunt for gasoline. Noah would probably be fine, but Stu? Somehow Bella had a sneaking suspicion that the whole endeavor would get fucked up somehow with Stu involved. They'd probably end up getting chased down by bears or something stupid and outlandish like that. Bella leaned up against the side of the RV and tucked her hands in her back pocket. "Also, try not to get lost. I've heard bad things can happen to lost drivers who get lost in Indiana." Bella teased with a smirk. Maybe she should've volunteered to go with them, help them find their way. But hey, what would be the fun in that?

Maisie
tumblr_pzb3zuZUJt1wdf98fo4_250.gifv

Let’s be honest.

Being here with a bunch of semi-strangers and Noah, was much better than living with another set of actual strangers for god knows how long. Maisie messed up. She messed up bad. After hearing about the road trip from Noah, the brunette was a little too eager to be apart of it. Thankfully no questions were asked and everything seemed to be going perfect. At least... as perfect as it could be going. Sure, the whole close contact and personal space thing kind of made Maisie the slightest bit crazy, but it wasn’t hard to let her feelings known.

Besides, most of the people here already probably knew her as the ‘weird girl in science class who had a major minor, freak out because someone grabbed her arm to get her attention.’ Look it wasn’t her fault okay? The blonde should’ve been a little more cautious around her. It’s not like Maisie is just going around and just touching everyone—

Okay, not like that.

The point is; all of this? It could be worse. What’s wrong with counting your blessings?

The RV had run out of gas, and here they were stranded on the side of the road in the worst humidity she could imagine, everything felt gross and sticky. Fanning herself with an old newspaper that was thrown about while everyone else started bickering. As far as counting goes? Blessings, blessings...

One? Two? Oh right. Maisie had a total of zero.

The rest of the girls didn’t seem to care much about the many dangers that were probably in Indiana. “I don’t have much hope for a gas station. But Ash is right.” Maisie said, clearly not taking the blonde’s sarcasm to heart. “This place is seriously giving me Jeepers Creepers vibes so do your best to be careful. If we were in a school bus? We’d be as good as dead right now.” Yeah, the horror movie fanatic was jumping out but this seemed to be as good as moment as any.

Stu

DQu9F5R.gif

’It’s not that windy on the map!’ Stu protested when the look of blame inevitably came his way. ‘I told you we should’ve filled up at the last station, didn’t I? I said—’

Angst exponentially rising, the boy stuffed all his things, including the map, into his backpack and swung out the door. Forgetting he was barefooted he landed very heavily on the parched earth. ‘Ooow!’ he cried. The dirt was rock hard. It had been so hot in the RV he had given up on wearing shoes. It didn’t help that their air conditioning decided to die just a few hours after they left Westbrook. Well, it wasn’t dead dead, but it wasn’t blowing cool air either. Stu’s red hot temper wasn’t exactly helping keep down his internal temperature either.

He climbed back inside, grabbed one of his pair of socks that was lying around, and slid into his shoes. ‘Bloody hell, it’s a sauna in here,’ he said. Then he exited a little more gracefully this second time.

Outside he saw how crisp his shadow looked in front of him. The sun was peering down at the runaways from a merciless angle, and around them endless corn fields once yellow glowed blinding white. The corn plants themselves were a lot taller than they had originally seemed from the RV. Stu didn’t think he had ever seen so much corn in his life.

Stu felt so sweaty and sticky he could hardly move, and here was Ash telling him he should walk in this heat for god knows how many miles!

‘Why don’t you go yourself then?’ he replied snarkily. Then he turned to Maisie. 'Yeah? Well I wish I was dead.'

He snatched the gas can off Ash’s hand and was already pacing up the road before Noah. God, Ash was annoying. Why did she have to be here?

What did he know about Indiana? The first thing in his mind was always a guy whose last name was Jones, though totally unrelated to the state. Indy 500, Colts, Pacers… well, the last two he didn’t care about. He was sure the Indy 500 race had finished a few weeks ago and doubted anyone else on the trip would care about that interest of his.

In his defense, Colby had agreed with Ash about using a map. Even though he was somewhat familiar with LA, being from California himself, he didn’t want to get lost easily. Colby also tried to convince Noah to stop for gas when the fuel gauge was slightly more than halfway finished and when they passed the last station. But no, they still had enough. Colby didn’t want to argue. And now they were stranded, stuck in this state’s stupid muggy, humid summer weather. This was one of the reasons Colby went to the trip, besides being a spare driver—ironically, being a teen street racer, he wasn't a speed demon like Noah. He was probably the only one in the group more familiar with car stuff, and he would’ve made sure they wouldn’t get stranded. So, how the hell did they not have an extra gas tank ready to use?

“Well, this definitely looks like the beginning of a cliche horror movie. You guys want me to go, too? I have feeling one of you might piss off a local and give them a reason to punch you. I also took self-defense lessons in case we bump into one of the Children of the Corn on the way.” Colby sounded surprisingly calm and nonchalant, mainly because he wasn't surprised that this happened. No gas meant no AC, and he already felt sweat beginning to seep through the back of his T-shirt. He was starting to regret coming to this trip. His bulky muscles didn’t do well in small spaces crowded with who-knows many people also there.

The smugness coming from Ash made Noah want to punch something. He hated smugness, and Ash clearly thought this whole thing was Noah's fault, which it wasn't, but she could think whatever she wanted. Her thoughts didn't have an effect on Noah or how he felt, or at least that was what he wanted to believe.

She was bossy, but this really wasn't the time to go starting a fight with her about her bossiness. She was Elise's daughter, of course she would be bossy, but mentioning Elise really wouldn't be a good idea because more tension never is.

Of course Bella had to make a snarky comment blaming Noah for the whole situation, to which Noah just flipped the girl off. He didn't need to worry about what any of the others thought, which is exactly why he left Westbrook in the first place, but it seemed that negative thoughts just followed Noah all the way to Indiana, and hopefully, that's the only thing that followed Noah to Indiana. The old Noah might have thought that Bella's joke was actually funny, but old Noah would've been pretending to be nice, whereas this Noah doesn't pretend to please anymore.

Noah didn't appreciate how everybody was making killer jokes because it wasn't funny. Noah loved to read random facts, and multiple of those facts were about the murders in Indiana. It honestly scared Noah and he just wanted to get out of the damn state as soon as he could.

Hearing Stu saying he wished he was dead did force Noah to make a grimace, but he knew better than to start talking about it like some kind of a therapist. He wasn't there to listen why others were sad, no, he was there to have fun and party and so far, not a lot of partying has happened.

Stu was then off, without Noah, and Colby had just come out of the RV, saying that he should probably go.

"Okay." Noah said before going after Stu. It was too early for this.

Wow, the guys were in a seriously bad mood today. Maybe it was because they realized just how wrong they had been and how, for once, right that Ash had been? A smile played across her face as Stu snatched the gas can from her hand, and started marching away down the road. Seriously, that kid needed an attitude check, although Ash wasn't exactly one to judge. Well, as in, she really couldn't.

"Be careful, little brother. Don't die!" She cupped her hands around her mouth so that her voice echoed down the road, her grin just widening before she looked back at Noah and Colby, just catching the end of their conversation. "Okay but don't get hurt trying to protect Noah and Stu. We need you." She said with a smirk at Colby, and then headed back to the RV and the others gathered around the outside in the heat.

"Boys," Ash scoffed to the girls as she made it back by them, and now that the guys were out of earshot. "The RV is disgusting. I'm going to clean up a bit. It'll probably be a couple hours until they get back, anyway." Ash said with a shrug, and then climbed back up the stairs into the stuffy RV.

Ash started opening up all the windows to try and air out the RV that already smelled like a mixture of sweat and dirty socks. Disgusting.

Stu

DQu9F5R.gif

Although Stu had gotten a head start, Noah and Colby didn’t have to come a long way to catch up with him. The heat was bearing down hard from a cloudless sky. All along this road there wasn’t a single shade except for the little sign that Stu had found and was now leaning against.

He swung out of his meagre shelter and joined up the two older boys.

‘What’s wrong with wind turbines?’ he said, to no one in particular, reading from the sign which was now behind him.

He sighed as he continued walking.

He was feeling a bit less tense now. It was as if the farther away he was from Ash, the more normal he felt. He looked into the cornfields, in between the rows. Maybe if he looked hard enough, he’d spot the thing from that film Maisie was talking about.

It was awkward walking with Noah and Colby. Noah hadn’t been in a good mood. Colby – well, he didn’t really know Colby. But at least the three of them weren’t fighting. The girls were at each other’s necks all the time. At least now they could have some peace and quiet. If only it wasn't so damn hot...

‘Have you been here before, then? To Indiana, I mean,’ he said. A week ago he wouldn’t have been able to find this state on the map. That was unsurprising. Stu couldn't find most things on the US map. So to remedy this, the group had put him in charge of reading the map for Noah, thinking he'd learn a thing or two in the process. Obviously, they would come to regret that decision before this trip was over. ‘Why is there so much corn here?’ Stu asked.

Beck

GentleMindlessCrownofthornsstarfish-size_restricted.gif
Disclaimer: possibly triggering

There was a kind of rhythm that you had to master in order to become a half-decent painter. The brush strokes needed to be precise, concise, even. Rebecca Nash had come oh so very close to mastering that very rhythm. But it was nigh impossible to feel satisfied when every time she looked at something she'd painted she found herself picking out every little mistake in stroke and ended up hating the thing. That's what was happening now as she stared dissatisfied at the canvas in front of her. Beck's usually bright composure crumbled and she scowled with disdain at the canvas. To anyone else, this painting, depicting her father's horse grazing calmly on the grass next to the small creek rushing along beside her home, might've looked good. But to Beck, it was the ugliest thing she'd ever seen. The brunette girl slashed her brush angrily across the canvas and a deep red streak marred the stallions brilliantly white coat. Beck reached up to slash again but paused, brushed still in the air and dripping red paint onto the ground. She cocked her head at the painting and was struck suddenly with an idea. With delighted glee, Beck began work once again. When she pulled away from the horse in the painting had been transformed into a disturbingly bloody zombified thing. Beck huffed proudly, quite satisfied with herself for once. She reached up to brush her hair out of her face, forgetting the presence of her brush and streaking the deep red painting across her face. Groaning, she reached up to try and wipe it off but only served to smear it.

"What the hell is that?"

Beck was startled by a deep voice behind her and she jumped. When she turned her paint-stained face to face the person the voice belonged to, she recoiled. Her father stood angrily behind her, his large frame towering over her menacingly. Beck could tell that he wasn't happy with the macabre depiction of his prized stallion. Her fingers clutched tight around the brush in her hand like she was preparing to try and use it as a weapon. Clyde Nash was not known for his easy-going temperament and Beck's mother had told her many a time that she could see that Beck had inherited her father's rather unstable temper. But this light switch of a trigger in her paled in comparison to his. When she didn't respond immediately, Clyde clamped a clammy hand down on Beck's shoulder and practically growled at her.

"Answer me, girl." Beck winced at his hand clamping slowly on her shoulder and figured it would probably be best if she just answered him.

"It was your horse but I messed up and I kind of just went with it," Beck answered quickly. Clyde was visibly not very pleased with this answer as he took up the canvas and snapped the thing clear over his knee. That light switch in Beck that was so similar to his flicked on and she made a startled, angry noise.

"You asshole!" Beck reached forward and forcibly removed the ruined canvas from his hands, "What the hell did you do that for, dad? It was just a fucking painting." Clyde snarled and grabbed Beck by her chin, whipping her face up to him hard enough to give her whiplash. With his teeth bared like an animal, he seethed at her.

"You don't talk to me like that." He spoke slowly. Beck only glared right back at him, giving him a snarl of her own. She dropped the pieces of the paintings and stood challengingly in front of him.

"Or what, dad? What the fuck are you going to do about it? You can't just come over here and destroy my paintings like you're still in kindergarten."

Slap.

Clyde's palm came in contact with the side of Beck's face. She took a few steps backward, startled. Her dad had just hit her. While she would admit that he wasn't the nicest guy in the world, he had never hit her. Beck looked at him with wide, surprised eyes. Clyde's mean demeanor dropped and he started toward her.

"Beck, I'm sorry I didn't mean-" Beck's surprise passed and she cut him off before he could finish.

"No. Fuck you." Beck shoved her way past him just as salty tears started rolling down her face. This was ridiculous. Clyde could shove it where the sun didn't shine, Beck wasn't staying here another minute. She stormed through the house and to her room, ignoring her mother's questions. She took up her backpack and emptied the thing onto the bed and began showing everything she could into the thing. Once it was full she exited the room and stopped only monetarily in the living room.

"I'm leaving and I'm not coming back until he learns that I'm not some kind of anger outlet." Her mother's protests were drowned out by the slamming of the front door. Beck plucked up her bike from the gravel driveway and took off down the path toward the road. Leaving behind only her tears.

It had been at least thirty minutes and the road was just coming into view when Beck caught the sound of voices. Who was all the way out here? Curious as ever, Beck abandoned her bike on the gravel and disappeared into the treeline on the side of the road. She walked until she could see the reflection of the sun glinting off an RV stranded on the side of the road. Beck walked slowly and stopped behind a tree where she could see the whole scene. At least seven people, teenagers by the looks of it, we're all crowded around the thing. Beck watched curiously as they spoke to each other. Something about no gas. She chuckled at their predicament and began picking them apart. A dark-haired boy with an oddly alluring appeal, a smaller brunette boy with an accent who seemed a bit to put together to be traveling in an RV with six other people, a pretty blonde girl who gave Beck the impression of a typical trouble-maker, a darker-skinned girl with a sense of innocence, another rather pretty dark-haired girl that also seemed out of place, and another terribly out of place boy. Beck watched them for a few more moments until she saw an opportunity to step in when two of the boys went off to find gas.

"All alone are we?" Beck stepped out of the tree line, quite the odd picture with her paint-smeared face and quickly forming bruise.

"How dangerous." She grinned. A grin that was unsettlingly animalistic. Like father like daughter, right?

Maisie
tumblr_pzb3zuZUJt1wdf98fo4_250.gifv

Even though Stu's reply was... harsh. The brunette was sure there was a reason for his pissy attitude. Maisie just hopes the attitude isn't directed towards her anymore than it already has. She stood quiet throughout the rest of the conversation and just lingered, the best way to get to know everyone around here is to just pay attention right? So... she did. Eh, Maisie wasn't even that talkative anyway. The interaction with Ash and Colby was interesting though. She couldn't tell if Colby was trying to show off his 'masculinity' by offering to go with the boys, and Ash was bluntly flirting with him, the only thing she enjoyed about watching the whole interaction was his horror reference. At least she wasn't the only one who wasn't totally uncultured around here.

Ash started cleaning up, and Maisie decided it was time for some air. Well, as much air as she could get. "Right. Enjoy that, maybe while I'm outside we'll get lucky and a nice couple will offer to take us to the nearest gas station."Or an old man would chop their heads off, but she left that part out. Squinting slightly once she stepped out of the RV. It was hot here, and warmth wasn't typically something people in Maine were used to. The many places Maisie lived wasn't ever on the nicer side of the weather. Just another perk of relocating to the shitter places right?

L.A. Should be fun. The rave it always got made it seem everything had to be easier there, so let's hope for the best.

"Hey, Indiana isn't as ugly as I thought it'd be, at least we're not--"

And before the girl could quote anymore horror movies it's as if she was living her own. But this wasn't any old man or a crazy looking creature. It was a girl who looked hurt but... jeez, she looked scary. Her words didn't exactly make Maisie feel at ease. "Uh... Nope. Not dangerous, not alone. My friends are, like, in there. So..." So what? So don't kill her? As if Ash and the others would care to save poor Maisie from the clutches of a deranged psycho murderer. "Um, guys?" A nervous chuckle escaped her as she called out for her... road trip buddies? They probably didn't consider her as a friend just yet.

"Can I... help you?"

Maisie would be relieved if she said no, but she wasn't exactly betting on those odds.

Welp, at least she tried to live.

Shawn Orozco

Nobody really wanted to acknowledge the fact that Shawn came. He wasn't invited, rather, he'd just heard about it and showed up with a suitcase, a fistful of bills and a dimebag of pot. No one wanted to tell him to leave, and well, he was one of the only, if not the only legal adult present. Being grown has an advantage or two, and like, Ash and Noah were eighteen, but they still had twelve-year-old energy. At least from Shawn's point of view. Every trip needs a man who can blow the police officer.

He'd been quietly passed out in the back of the RV for hours when suddenly it came to a stop, and he smacked his head on the nearest wall. A bit of head-rubbing and Spanish cursing later, and he was on his feet, eyes half-lidded. Ash appeared to be opening windows, god stop opening windows. He staggered over to Ash, trying to seem as non-aggressive as possible.

"Don't leave those open, we're not moving which makes it, like, thirty times easier to get bugs in here." No bees on his head while he slept, no sir. "Why the fuck are we stopped, anyway? Is something broken? I can probably fix it."

Why are you so desperate for love and attention?

Why, why, why.

Hunter had been trying to build up the courage the whole day to tell his parents. He had been pacing back and forth trying to comfortably get his parents in the same room. He knew that they would be shocked, but he had tried living the lie for too long and he wanted to be able to be himself. He wanted to open with his family, and he loved them just like they loved him. As he walked into the kitchen his mom was busy making a pie and his father was reading the paper. He had sat in the seat across from his father and then he cleared his voice. That had gotten the attention of both of his parents. “Mom, Pa.” he started and they both stopped what they were doing, “I have something I want to tell you and it’s really hard.” His father only rolled his eyes, “You got a girl pregnant.” Hunter shook his head and of course his father being his father made any conversation a little more difficult. How could he be himself when his father was only about him being with a girl.

His mother came over and took his face in her hands, “It’s okay sweetie you can tell us anything.” That was the reassurance he needed so he stood up, “Mom, you should sit down.” His mother took a seat and Hunted walked back and forth for a couple seconds. Finally, he faced both of his parents, “Okay, so there are some people who like just girls and some who like just boys.” His father scoffed a little, “But you see I like both girls and boys. I tend to like boys a little more, but I do enjoy a beautiful girl.” He was then cut off before he could continue. His father was saying no and starting to yell at him, “No son of mine will be with a boy or like a boy and if that’s the life you want then I don’t want you under my roof.” His mother had turned to his father to dissuade him, but he just continued to shout about Hunter being a disgrace to the family. He quickly ran to his room and grabbed his duffle bag and backpack. He filled them with clothes, blankets, and other necessities he might need. If his father didn’t want him then he would leave. He could make it on his own without his family. He wasn’t going to live a lie and apparently his family only loved him if he was straight.

He stormed out of the house and slammed the door. He began to walk and walk, and his journey took him to the gas station. He needed some other supplies before going to the bus station and buying a ticket to whatever destination he wanted. He also needed to pee so a gas station was a good stop so he could relieve himself and then continue onto the station. Life was already against him so he couldn’t sink any lower than where he was at in that particular moment.

“I think you should be more specific with what you need me for, Miss West.” Colby wasn’t exactly flirting, more like a harmless teasing to play along, possibly subtly suggestive if someone decided to go down that gutter. But as mentioned, it was just harmless flirting to him. Unlike some guys his age who might have a dumb hormonal teen fantasy, Colby Katzmeir had no intention of hooking up with anyone during this trip. His main focus was just getting through it in one piece, and do what he would do once they get to their destination. He actually had a very personal reason for going to Los Angelas but didn’t tell anyone, not even Noah. It was his own business to deal with because that was always what many expected him to do at his age.

Before leaving with Noah and Stu, Colby dashed back inside the RV and grabbed from his backpack his wallet, blue LA Dodgers hat, and stainless steel water bottle that resembled a short baseball bat. The metal water bottle would probably help keep Noah and Stu from killing each other if their current tempers got out of hand. What? He wasn’t completely laid-back.

“If you really start missing me,” Colby said to Ash as he walked past her out the RV again, “just spritz my deodorant spray around a bit, might help cover up the smell from the socks lying on the floor. And I’m pretty sure none of them are mine.” Then he gave her a lazy salute and a small coy smile. He patted Noah on the back when he got back to him, and they caught up with Stu together. What an unexpected trio.

When Stu wondered out loud about the corn, Colby shrugged. “They farm a lot of corn here, I guess.” It looked obvious enough. Some places were known for potatoes, others for strawberries, chicken-and-waffles etc. “I’ve only ever lived in three states, and I still barely know any of them. Anyway, it's summer and none of you considered bringing a simple hat for this road trip?”

In good Westbrook fashion, the whole gas situation was dealt with through playful flirting and tangible angst. One thing Bella had learned in her time with this crew was that communication was definitely not their strong suit, and problems were often met with heated emotions over words. Bella pulled her hair back into a ponytail and let out a deep breath, the stagnant heat from the blistering sun and dark road causing the warmth to crawl uncomfortably up Bella's neck.

She watched as Colby, Noah, and Stu walked out of view to go find gas, and chuckled to herself. "Those three are totally going to get lost somehow." Bella muttered to herself. She turned around, about to go help Ash with cleaning the RV when Maisie's shaky voice caught her attention.

Bella hopped down off the first stair into the RV and turned back to Maisie with a raised eyebrow. "What's up?" She asked, walking up beside the girl. It took Bella's eyes a moment to see the person that Maisie had just talked to but when she did notice, a lump formed in Bella's throat. They had been worried about the guys getting in trouble on their journey for gas and they are repaid for their teasing with some creepy girl in the woods! She had not signed up for that when she decided to go on the trip.

Her immediate reaction was to go into the RV and lock the door, not waiting for Maisie. Every woman for herself in the case of creepy forest girls. But before her body could allow her to get out of there, Bella saw the bruise on the girl's face. She had definitely been hurt.

"I'm assuming you don't know our little forest buddy," Bella said to Maisie quietly, her gaze not leaving the girl. "Hey, you don't look so good. Are you okay?" She asked the girl, offering a cautious smile her way.

Noah

Having a head full of hair wasn't the best thing for a person while they were walking in Indiana heat, but for Noah it was even worse, because his hair was black, pitch black. It is a known fact that black attracts light, and with light, heat. His scalp was already sweaty, and sweat was starting to come down both his neck and his forehead. Moving his hands resulted in more friction between his skin and his shirt, which was wetter and wetter with each passing second. Breathing in the air was harder than usual, and even though he wasn't walking for a long time, he really wanted to sit down and rest.

Before Noah knew it, the peace and quiet he longed for for the past week was over, and the two boys who were looking for gas along with Noah were now talking about Indiana and corn. Out of all the topics one could think of, the two were talking about the vegetable used to make popcorn. Sure, it might have had other uses, but Noah certainly wasn't the one to ask about it. It was simply because he couldn't care less what the yellow vegetable was used for. One thing was certain, though. If the group couldn't find gas, they could survive on corn for the rest of their lives, so they didn't have anything to worry about, apart from murderers, getting sunburn and all that fun stuff Indiana had to offer.

He would have stayed quiet and waited for the conversation to die out so he could walk and sweat in peace, but he was asked a question and as much as he didn't want to answer, it wasn't polite to not answer a question, or at least that was what his parents have taught him.

"I had a hat. It is probably somewhere under all those socks." Noah said in an accusing tone, while looking at Stu. He knew the boy was responsible, and you would think that he had balls to admit it.

Ash

She hadn't expected Colby to come back into the crowded RV, or to flirt if that's what was even happening. For Ash, it had been a while since she had flirted with anyone or been flirted with, so she didn't really know how to respond. Instead, she just smiled and laughed, watching him exit the RV, and then went about her business. Opening windows. Kicking dirty socks and underwear into a pile in the middle of the RV floor for the boys to deal with when they got back. Or maybe she'd just throw their clothes out the window.

And then Shawn came out, and Ash glanced towards him as he spoke. "Okay, well, lucky for you, most of these windows have screens," Ash pointed out, tapping on one of the opened windows in question over the little dining room table. "Regardless, a few bugs is a lot better than smelling teenage boy sweat." Ash was prepared to keep arguing this, and keep opening windows to try and air out the smell of BO and cologne, when Maisie's voice sounded from outside the RV. And, well, she sounded scared.

Ash squeezed past Shawn in the overly tight RV, and was down the steps in just seconds, bouncing down onto the ground in the sweltering Indiana heat. She froze for a moment, taking in the scene before her. Maisie and Bella, and then some thin brunette girl with a bruise forming and a streak of red on her face. Ash was no stranger to bruises, and it made her breath catch in her throat for a moment, and her hand tighten on the RV door for just a second, before her breath came back in a rush.

Ash walked up to the group beside Maisie, and positioned herself so that she was just in front of the other two girls. What? Maisie and Bella were minors and Ash would not let anyone get hurt on her watch. Especially not Maisie or, heaven forbid, Stu. Even if the little sock monster annoyed the hell out of her, he was still kind of her stupid step brother.

"What happened to your face?" Now that Ash was closer, the streak of red didn't look like blood. But hey, maybe it was, and maybe now they were all going to die.

Beck

Beck realised suddenly that she probably shouldn't have taken the scare the fuck out of them approach. The dark-skinned girl seemed a little frightened and the other two just seemed concerned with her face. The blonde one was more assertive, she could see the way she maneuvered in front of the other two. Leader personality. Beck made a quick mental note to be careful around that one. The other two might be easier to manipulate. Beck paused in her thoughts, surprised at herself, not that she was going to manipulate anyone. Anyway, she needed them to stop acting all defensive before she could get anywhere, so the first thing to go was her smile. The second the first girl mentioned the bruise the thought of what had just happened came rushing back up and she didn't have to work very hard to get rid of her smile. The blonde girl mentioned it too and Beck shifted uncomfortably from foot to foot. They were all staring at her face and suddenly she remembered that the pain there probably wasn't comforting either.

"Um..it's nothing I'm fine." Beck reached up and wiped at her face, "And this is paint. So you can quit staring." She took two cautious steps forward, completely ignoring the blonde girl and focusing on the me she'd frightened.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." Beck smiled again, a charmingly sincere one this time. When she rounded back on the other two her words suddenly became chipper and infectious. Like she'd flipped a light switch back to happy-go-lucky Beck.

"I'm Rebecca Nash. But call me Beck, please." Beck paused and looked around them, "You guys seem to be in a bit of a predicament here. Where are you headed?" She shifted the backpack on her shoulder so that they could see it and maybe put two and two together. Riding in an RV would be so much better than trying to ride her bike to god knows where. Beck just hoped she hadn't ruined her chances already.

Stu

DQu9F5R.gif

Yeah, whatever, OK. By the time Colby finished answering his question Stu had forgotten why he’d asked it. He didn’t really care what people in Indiana did. If they wanted to spend their whole lives growing and eating corn, that was none of his business – they were welcome to it.

As for Stu, destiny was beckoning him to greater things. With looks and charm like his, he was naturally bound for the city of angels. Maybe, just maybe, he’d become an actor. No doubt he’d make it big in Hollywood, and have his own mansion on Sunset Boulevard, one so big it made the Wests’s look like a teeny-tiny shack in comparison. He’d invite Elise over, too, just to rub it in.

Instead he was plodding along endless stretches of corn, going from one Jesus sign to the next. One of them warned: HELL IS REAL. No shit. They were literally in hell right now. Colby was right. He should have thought about bringing a hat. But he was in such a hurry when he packed that he had an excess of socks and boxers, and not much else.

So yes, in short, Noah was right. The socks were his, all of them.

By now the sun had evaporated this boy's angst. He was pulling the collar of his T-shirt over the back of his head to stop his neck from burning to a crisp. So it was time to replenish his energy -- he pulled his backpack in front of him and went looking for his favourite snack. Out came a melted KitKat, whose chocolate remains Stu was dangling between his fingers. He looked at it in horror. Rest in peace little guy.

They walked for minutes until they spilled back out onto the main road, and to Stu’s relief he saw a gas station sign rippling in the mirage in the distance. ‘That’s miles away,’ he said, covering a cough, stooping down panting and clutching his tired knees. He put the gas can down for a second, relieving himself of its weight. If he died here would they just bury him in a corn field?

Shawn Orozco

Shawn opened his mouth to make a joke about how Ash should be used to male stench by now considering her track record, but was bypassed before he could even speak. Just another reminder that nobody cares about your existence, yee-haw. But instead he peered out the window, seeing what appeared to be... an escaped abuse victim? The victor of a fistfight? Whatever it was, she looked like she'd been punched hard.

He followed Ash silently, popping out of the RV into the sweltering heat. His striped tank top clung to his chest and back, which would've been sexy if he was literally anyone else. Unfortunately, he is Shawn.

"Fuck's goin' on out here? Jesus Christ, what happened to you?" He traded a gaze with Bella, who'd been out here long before him. "Do you need, like... help? Are you in danger or something, should I call somebody?" He wasn't quite reaching for his phone, probably thought she'd say no, I'm fine. He heard her say it was paint, but that kinda seemed like a load of shit. Whether or not she'd go back on that claim was anyone's guess.

“Okay, I’m just gonna walk between you two.” Colby reversed his steps without interrupting the trio’s pace and wedged himself in the gap between Noah and Stu, gently pushing their shoulders away to give him enough room. It was like a parent sitting between his sulky kids in the backseat to prevent them from ripping each other's throats. Actually, it was more like Colby making sure grumpy coffee-deprived Noah didn’t throttle Stu, and Ash would probably be pissed if her little step-brother didn't return alive. Stu had a strange habit of causing people to attack him.

Colby rolled his eyes at the British kid's reaction from seeing the gas station in the distance. He held out his stainless steel water bottle to Stu, offering him to drink some water. Colby didn’t like the weather either, but he couldn’t afford acting like a wimp when they were almost there.

“Don’t be so dramatic. That’s like, what, another 30-minute walk from here? Could be less if we move a little faster. If it helps, we can talk about what we’ll do in Los Angeles when we get there. But why go to that city of all places?”

The whole situation had Bella's stomach churning with anxiety. In any other situation, she would have protested for her independence and Ash's defensive move. But in that case, Bella was more than happy to have the feisty cheerleader in front of her and Maisie. If anyone was going to protect them on this trip, it would be the little blonde.

Bella caught Shawn's gaze and shrugged at his question, not exactly knowing how to answer his question. What was going on? Why was a random girl in the woods covered in red "paint" and bruises? Why was she questioning where their crew was going?

"Our 'predicament' is well taken care of, thanks." Bella answered the girl sharply as she stepped up beside Ash, not answering the question about their destination. Like she was about to tell the creepy girl from the woods anything about them, including where they came from or where they were going.

The more Bella looked at the girl, the less scary she looked at the more she looked like a damaged girl on the run. How easily it could have been one of them, on the run from their demons, in place of Beck. After all, everyone on the damn road trip had skeletons in their closets, things in the past that have yet to been dealt with. It wouldn't have surprised Bella at all to see any one of her peers in a similar situation as Beck, lost and hurt and wanting help. Part of Bella wanted to soften, to give in and to help Beck; clearly she needed it. But the trust simply wasn't there.

Bella's face hardened and she crossed her arms over her slim chest. "Look, if you want, we can call someone for you." She offered, not caring if she seemed rude or cold. Ultimately, the safety of her friends was much more important than some random forest girl.

Maisie
tumblr_pzb3zuZUJt1wdf98fo4_250.gifv

As surprising as it was, the girl apologized. Whoever says what, Maisie wasn't scared. She's been in so many more situations where she didn't bat an eye. She was just... unsure is all. It's been a while since she had one of those situations and she'd do whatever in order to prevent another from happening. Acknowledging her apology with a nod, while Ash and Bella tried to handle it themselves-- Not answering any of the girl's questions.

Maybe there was a reason for it? They didn't want the forest girl to know where they were going, but she seemed nice enough-- and hey! It was only paint.

What was the worst that can happen?

"We're going to L.A."

She might've regretted the words as soon as she said it, but that's not the point. It's fine! She'll fix it. "Uh, yeah we can call someone for you... Beck?" It sounded more like a question than a statement, but the fact that she had a bag beside her only meant that she was willing to tag along with him. Wait a minute.

Oh no, It's a hitchhiker.

They're for sure to die now.

Ash

Everyone was asking a lot of questions, and Ash wouldn't be surprised if the poor girl was getting overwhelmed. Ash knew that if she was in this Beck girl's shoes, she'd be overwhelmed as all get out by the multitude of questions that everyone was asking. Sure, she was a stranger that had obviously been hit, so it made sense that everyone was asking so many questions. But still.

"Don't crowd her." Ash said, waving a hand dismissively at the others and looked back at Beck, her eyes falling on the bruise again. "C'mon. I think we still have some ice in the RV's freezer." She gestured with a tilt of her head for Beck to follow her back onto the RV, and pushed her way past Bella, Maisie, and Shawn and headed back onto the RV.

Ash was no stranger to abuse, and maybe that was why she felt the need to help this strange girl on the side of the road. Her hands were trembling a bit, a small lump forming in her throat, so she took a moment to steady herself as her hand gripped the handle to the freezer. Deep breaths. It wasn't like it had happened to her, or would ever happen to her again, right? So, forcing the twisted feelings deep back into her gut, Ash pulled the freezer door open and grabbed out the melting ice.

She found a washcloth that smelled clean, and wrapped some of the dripping ice up in it. Ash placed the rest of the ice back in the freezer, and then took the washcloth of ice and handed it to Beck. "You're running away, right?" Like everyone else on this godforsaken RV, she was leaving something behind.
