Dreamer
"Ring around the rosie,
A pocket full of posy,
Ashes, Ashes..."
"Look, there,"
"What a truly sad soul."
"A mind too broken to accept what is."
"They think they're one of them."
"But they're really one of us."
"And that one."
"The Witch?"
"They know too much,"
"Death hangs over them like a dark cloud."
"More than they were ever meant to see."
"Don't look."
"The Dreamer."
"Dangerous."
"Not bound by the rules of this world."
"Their nightmares will eat all of us alive."
"An omen is near,"
"Good, or bad?"
"The line whispers to them,"
"Even the trees fear their power."
"Our undoing walks before us."
"Unsettling,"
"The Dream"
"Hollow, but still alive."
"A puppet with no strings."
"I can't see what it wants."

Ashes, Ashes..."

Welcome To Harwood
From the outside, Harwood doesn't look like much. A small town, bordered on one side by mountains and miles away from any major city, most of the world doesn't even know of the town's existence.
Though there is one thing special about Harwood. It was built on a ley-line, an invisible network of energy lines that run all over the Earth. These lines are the source of all magic in the world, and if the energy within them were to dry up, magic and everything created by them would disappear. For some reason, the ley-line underneath Harwood has always been abnormally strong, which allowed the town's Firefly Forest and Dead Forest to come into being. Even though a few studies have been done on them, no one has been able to figure out how the lines were created or how they function.
The town is split into two halves. Upper Harwood, where the town's richest families live, and Lower Harwood, where the poor and middle-class live. This divide was caused by Harwood Academy For Excellence, built only a few years after Harwood High School first opened. The tuition for Harwood Academy is extremely high, and those parents that couldn't afford it were forced to move closer to the public school in Lower Harwood. Eventually, only the rich were left in Upper Harwood. The older generations of Lower Harwood blame the rich for dividing the town, while the older generations of Upper Harwood look down on those who can't afford to go to the Academy. As a result, the two sides rarely interact.
The Ghost boo. -
▽ -
The Ghost is dead, but doesn't know it.
The memory of their death is suppressed, buried under layers and layers of refusal and denial. Unknowingly, the Ghost uses the ley-line as a battery, drawing on its magic to make themselves 'real'. Because of this, they can do everything someone alive can do. The stronger the ley-line, the stronger the Ghost is but the weaker the line, the less real the Ghost is. The Ghost was born in Harwood.
The Ghost has a secret. They were murdered on Harwood's ley-line.
The Witch izayoiix -
▽ -
The Witch can see the future.
They are descended from a long line of powerful witches, made stronger by living near a ley-line. They were born in Harwood. The Witch isn't able to see the whole future, but only bits and pieces of what has happened and what will happen. Or different outcomes to the same event. Though by the beginning of the RP, someone else has blocked the Witch's power, making them only see the future as static, or nothing at all.
The Witch has a secret. They had a vision, depicting the death of three people they never met before. It was the clearest vision they've ever had.
The Dreamer Cross -
▽ -
The Dreamer has the power to make their dreams reality.
They can even re-create people that died or never existed in the first place, though dream people are only ever how the Dreamer remembers them and rarely how they actually were. Though, the bigger/more complex the thing the Dreamer pulls from their dreams, the more magic it takes out of the ley-line to create it. If the Dreamer creates something with a lot of moving and intricate parts, like a car, the drain on the line would be significant enough to be felt by others who rely on it. If the Dreamer dreams a person, with a fully working brain and organs, it would negatively affect those who rely on it.
If the Dreamer dies, everything they've ever dreamed loses the ability to function.
The Dreamer has two secrets. One is that while they control their dreams, they can't control their nightmares. Without complex parts, these nightmares fall apart easily, but sometimes they last just long enough to harm someone else. Second, people are looking for them. People that call themselves Dream Hunters. Dreamers are rare, and there are people who pay other people to find them. Or, they want them for themselves, with no regard for the line or the people who rely on it.
The Ruler Life. -
▽ -
The Ruler was born bonded to the ley-lines.
They have limited access to their power, and only when the line is willing to give it. To the Ruler, the ley-lines are sentient, speaking to them in whispers or fragmented sentences. They are the only person alive able to see the ley-lines, and also the only one with some influence over them. In exchange for its power, the ley-line would ask them to do something in return, like filling a hole that was dug over the line or clearing debris. If granted its power, the Ruler is given small control over nature for a limited time.
They have an affinity for wildlife, and can see and talk to ghosts. They enhance any and all lines they're near. The Ruler's bond with the lines goes both ways. If the Dreamer were to create a dragon, the strain on the lines would send the Ruler into shock.
The Ruler has a secret. If they die, all magic dies with them.
The Dream S n o w [/color]-
▽ -
The Dream recently moved to Harwood with his adoptive parents.
He's looking for a coin, rumored to be the first object made from the magic of the line. Once found, one only has to flip the coin to have their deepest wish granted. But if flipped the wrong way, their worst fear will be granted instead. The Dream wants to be real.
-
The Witch knows that in less than three months, The Dreamer, The Ruler, and The Dream will all be dead. And they might be too. Their vision was a mistake, a piece of the cosmic order that slipped through the cracks. The Witch was never meant to see it, never supposed to know that part of the future. But now that they have seen it, what will they do about it?
In the right hands, a magic coin can be harmless, but devastating in the wrong one. The Dream is willing to do anything to find the coin, but he's not the only one looking for it. Someone else wants the coin, and has been looking for a way to find it for a long time. No one has ever seen the coin for themselves, and there is little proof that it really exists. Still, that someone else has been trying, even turning to dark lengths to try and open a path to the coin. The Ghost is evidence of this.
None of the Dream Hunters know about The Ruler. But if it somehow got out that a person existed with some control over the lines and the combined power of The Dreamer and The Ruler fell into the wrong, it could cause unimaginable chaos. Or the end of all magic.

The high-prices of the café would ward anyone from Lower Harwood away, even if the preferential treatment didn't do it first.
Harwood Police Station

Every once in a while, Officer Stanson will receive reports of strange sightings. Some witnesses describe seeing animals, while others have claim to have witnessed more nightmarish creatures hiding out in the dark. He was even sent out to investigate one of the most recent attacks, but found no trace of anything when he reached the crime scene.
Firefly Forest

-
In 2004, a researcher by the name of Linda Schultzman stumbled upon the forest, and wrote about it's near-supernatural qualities. Lying directly on a branch of the ley-line, Firefly Forest carries with it a strong amount of magic. It's almost like time works differently in there, and some of the few tourists to visit Harwood have reported seeing hallucinations, among other oddities. A local girl once got lost in the forest, and when found a few hours later, claimed she was only in there for a few minutes. While those people were written off and quickly sent home, there's still something about the forest that's a bit... off.

Mary Benton is both a manager and a waitress at Sunnyside, and is well known among her patrons. Rarely does Sunnyside get any patrons from Upper Harwood.
Harwood Public Library

The library technically resides between Upper and Lower Harwood and because there's only one, it's the only place in town where both halves of Harwood are forced to interact with each other. Samantha Whittle is the Head librarian, and often tasked with keeping the peace when arguments break out.
Dead Forest
-
◄
-
In 1903, Dead Forest was paved over with the intention of turning the area into the town's graveyard. By 1908, all the trees had grown back, except they were twisted and warped, like the dead had a hand in remaking them. They were repeatedly chopped down so more graves could be added, but when they kept growing back the groundskeepers gave up. Residing on a branch of the ley-line, Dead Forest is less powerful, but more dangerous than Firefly Forest. Flowers for the dead and broken tombstones litter the area. For the most part, the spirits keep themselves in check, but sometimes, if one wanders too close at night, voices and laughter call out to them from beings they can't see. Though since it can't be proven, it's nothing more than rumors that these spirits exist at all.
