Experiences was there any time you dropped the rp because of something your partner said or did?

cooking like a chef i'm a 5 star michelin
Once when we were in the middle of an adventure rp, you know the time where things start going in a flow. My partner started controlling my character. That's where i said i wasn't interested anymore.

Do you guys have any stories similar to this?

Wow, another chance to whip out one of my Roblox Roleplaying Forums stories! This was around the end of my time there, just a while before the forum merge was announced.

Basically late 12 year old me was not very proud of my OCs and other characters in the crossover roleplay, so I basically said I was getting rid of all my characters and making new ones. So I tried to start with my new girl, but was basically lost on what to do, so I said I’d wait a little longer to start roleplaying with her. Basically a discussion happened, there was some plot and character talk, and it ended with one of the guys snapping out at me. I don’t remember the specifics of the conversation or precisely what was said, but I remember that was just the last straw for me. Between another guy who didn’t really like my characters and the aforementioned snapping out dude who said kinda mean things (Which I later learned was just him quoting YouTube videos to sound edgy. Yea, I’m on better terms with this guy nowadays, and I honestly consider him a friend.), it just kinda felt like I wasn’t wanted there. So with tears streaming down my face, I wrote an excuse about not being able to handle criticism, and I left the roleplay. Since the role playing forums were basically dead outside of the crossover, I essentially left the subforum altogether. A little time after, the merge got announced, and I basically stalked the old roleplay and watched everyone talk about where they’d go. (This was pretty much the first time I heard of RPN.) Then the merge happened, and that was essentially the end of an era.

So yea, that’s basically how it ended on a bad note with the Roblox RP forums.

that sucks

It was a roleplay where I played a character unaware that he would transform into a beast during nightfall and my partner played the investigator tasked to killing the beast due people being killed. Anyway, my guy transformed went on a rampage. The investigator arrived in battle with another side character I made. In my last post I had it where the beast went after my side character deliberately to leave it open for their character to be able to attack or whatever they needed to do. Do you know this person skipped my entire post by making it the next morning? Not only that there was no mention about the battle only that my character, the beast, had been killed. I was like yeah, no I'm done after that point.

Hooo boy there are a number of them. Just off the top of my head (in no particular order)

MAGICAL GIRL MISHAP
So I was making an original magical girl roleplay over email. I had spent weeks talking to this person about the plot and had even gotten to the point where I had made my character sheet and sent it to them. So they asked me to make a starting post, I did, and then they immediately come into the OOC and complain that they thought this was a fandom roleplay. Bare in mind I had already sent them my original character and spent a week telling them about my original idea. Needless to say I immediately dropped that roleplay

WAIT THERE ARE TWO TRANSFER STUDENTS?
Related to the above I was doing a fandom roleplay where I wanted to play two OC characters. The person just in general seemed to have poor reading comprehension (I don't know if they struggled reading English or they were just plain not reading my posts). But I kept at it even though I had to repeat the same thing like three times for the person to get it. We finally get to the character creation part of the roleplay and they start asking about canon characters. I'm like...no I said this was an OC (again having to repeat this multiple times before they stopped asking). Well they finally understand that the characters are OC. Only to then create a character that has MY character's role.

So basically we were playing a Transfer Student and their Student Mentor. I was the transfer student they were the mentor. I had already spoken about my transfer characters background and sort of why they were coming to the school. This person makes a character that has basically the same backstory and I just quit. Like it was either a case of them YET AGAIN misunderstanding my post or they just flat out copied my character. Either way I had finally had enough.

UM THAT WORD DOESN'T MEAN WHAT YOU THINK IT MEANS
So I had this person pm me about roleplaying with them. They were super specific about their wants but I was willing to give them a chance. Then it gets to the character creation section and I ask if my character could be asexual. They immediately go into a tirade about how all the characters have to be straight and they're Christian and they don't believe in homosexuals or some such thing. I am like...okay first ofs an asexual isn't a homosexual. Secondly if your going to be that hateful over a simple question I think we need to part ways. So I dropped that roleplay

SATURDAY MORNING SEXUAL HUMILIATION
So this was on another site that did allow ERP just to give you some context. Anyway I had this idea for a sort of zany roleplay about magical girls where the main characters were Rose from the Golden Girls, Squidward, and I think Edward Cullen. It was really bizarre nonsense that was going to be like one of those old school saturday morning cartoons. Fun nonsense.

Anyway this girl wanted to do the roleplay and she wanted to know if we could make all the characters females because she "liked lesbians". I'm like, yeah sure the plot is more about zany adventures than specific characters. So I told her the main villain was going to be an Evil Furby Doll who was controlling the Disney Princesses. And the plot was going to be the Z List Magical Girls traveling to the Disney Princess movies to save them.

She wanted the Dr. Furby to look like Jessica Rabbit (or wear a Jessica Rabbit suit) I'm like...ugh I guess. And then she's like she wanted Jessica Rabbit to tie up one of the Disney Princess and humiliate her for sexual reasons. And i'm like....O.O. I said PG-13, like a cartoon. The hell kind of cartoons are you watching where you think that's okay?

And she then comes back with well Robin and Wonder Woman are tied up all the time. And anyway I told her no. So she get pissy and won't take no for an answer. And eventually just left.

Fast Forward a few months this same person answers a different interest check I made where I said I didn't do sexually explicit content. She then proceeds to attempt to shame me for not doing sexual roleplays and complain about me wasting her time. When again she is the one who contacted me and tried to make me change my interests.

I didn't so much drop the roleplay as block her entirely after that.

I'm sure I'll come up with more later but that's it for now.

Ouch. I get it. Thats why Ive always hated Black Butler, it seemed to be all about that.
...I don't even know what that is, bu-u-ut, being almost strictly original player, it only makes this worse. It's bad. In RP or outside of it. Especially outside.
I mean, I have pretty relative morale, but even that cannot find justification for kiddiefiddling.

Yeah there are two things that instantly get block from me, child porn and incest.

Black Butler is (maybe a completely harmless?) manga from a Victorian setting where a kid (aristocratic boy) has an adult demon as a servant. They have various adventures and at one point it used to be really popular. I used to like another Victorian manga and it was recommended to me so I looked it up. Ive never even read it tho because when I looked it up, first thing I found was such a crapload of child porn fanfics between the two that I was like hell no. Sometimes I see ppl wanting to RP it and I always feel like vomiting a little. Im pretty sure theres nothing like that in the actual manga tho.

Ah, well something tells me there's a lot of stories about these kind of relationships in Eastern media.
That ebing said, that person didn't mean exactly... comics or RPs. They meant RL.

I watched black butler, there isn't any CP scenes. I don't know if it's allowed. But some licking etc.

who were you

There's been many times I've dropped a roleplay because my "Oh No This Incredibly Specific Thing They Keep Bringing Into This SFW Roleplay Is Almost Definitely Their Fetish" Alarm has went off.. it's hard to explain exactly why but you just get this feeling

I was pretty late into the lifetime of the subforum, so you might’ve not known me. I was xKawaiifiedKat at the time (since then I’ve changed my username)

Yea, I’ve never heard of you.

You didn’t really miss much. It was kind of a flaming train wreck throughout the time I was there.

I was doing a CanonXOC/Double RP as many fandom RPers tend to do. It was one of my first times doing a serious RP for that fandom and I was very excited especially because my partner was a well-known RPer in that fandom.

We begun doing the RP, and immediately something felt off about her playing my crush. At first I tried to ignore it and chalked it up to us being busy and a bit awkward around each other at the time, but it went on for several months without pause.

Basically, she was manipulating my OC's crush's personality to be really in love with my OC. I asked her about it and implied I wanted them to start out as rivals since I wrote that out already. She got kinda defensive but said she understood. She kept doing the same exact thing in the RP so I confronted her again, asking her why she was doing that when we specifically planned out what we wanted our crushes to do to our OCs beforehand. She pretty much said: "Well he's your crush, so I thought you wanted your OC to be in love with him. That's why I changed it,"

I just dropped the RP after that. A long time after that she contacted me again in confusion and I let her have it. Even to this day I am extremely hesitant about RPing that fandom because of that experience.

I love my crush because of their personality. So why are you trying to change it so they'll fall head-over-heels for my OC?!

Honestly I kind of get her position. She was in a touch spot honestly, especially if she really was a popular player in that fandom. Most likely she had been asked to play people’s crushes extremely often and had gotten used to how it usually goes.

And how it usually goes is that someone who is in love with a fictional character wants that fictional character to love them back.

And worse they will take any criticism extremely personally.

I have absolutely been in the position where I got chewed out for having my character be “mean” to the person who has a crush on them. Even if that person says they want to be rivals they still wanted the crush character to secretly love them or whatever.

So it’s kind one of those situations where it’s better to err on the side of just having the crush love the person back.

So I imagine she honestly was trying to give you what you wanted. You just happen to be one of the few individuals who really did want an antagonistic relationship to start off with.

Which most likely went against her own experience as a writer which is why she was so confused

So I guess to give some context, I was approached by someone who wanted to do a 1x1 of Snow White with the Red Hair (or Akagami no Shirayuki-hime). Now, in my interest check, I had put the character Obi as someone I would ship with an OC, but this person instead wanted me to play Obi. I said that's okay, I could probably pull him off, but even so, this was already the start of an uh-oh. They never even offered to double, so. (Or maybe they weren't fond of doubling? Something like that.)

So we start off the roleplay, right, and I thought everything was going fine. It was the type of thing where Obi (whom I was portraying) was sent to find the other person's OC, who'd been kidnapped. You know. The usual. It was all well and good, and we got them away from the kidnappers. But then Obi's trying to convince her to come with him back to her family, and she says no. Of course, he keeps saying this, but five posts later, she's just saying no over and over again.

I was like, "How are we supposed to progress this plot if literally nothing Obi says will convince her?"

I was starting to get real pissed, so I finally said I wasn't interested anymore. I don't actually remember if I said something explaining it (i.e. if your character won't work with the one you wanted me to play for you, why are we bothering?), but I do know I basically gave up and left.

Now, I can understand if a character doesn't trust a stranger. That's a typical reaction, I'd think. But if the guy gives evidence that he's there to help, or if the roleplay has, five posts later, done nothing besides that conversation, what is the point? Is this going to happen every time the characters are trying to do something? Why don't you have your character at least run away or something, so mine can follow? It was very frustrating and I wasn't really sure what to do.

Needless to say, I was much happier without it.

Ugh same. I think it's one of those things where they don't understand the difference between a character being "difficult" and a character being a road block. As you mentioned a difficult character might not go with the other person willingly but they'll at least give an action that you can respond to. Whether that's running away, attacking your character, fainting, etc. It allows your character to react and the scene to progress onward.

It's the same with "anti-social characters". I mentioned this in another thread but I once walked away from a roleplay where the person went out of their way to make their character anti-social. To the point that when I called them out on it and asked them to make a second character to interact with mine. They doubled down and made BOTH characters ignore mine completely.

They were basically writing their own little one-shots about the daily life of their characters. Them going to school/work, grocery shopping, going on dates, etc. All the while my characters are waiting around for them to show up so the plot can move forward.

And they flat out admitted that they only had their characters act that way because they wanted to see how long it would take me to mention it. Needless to say I dropped them like a hot potato.

But it does illustrate an issue. Being anti-social does not mean you never socialize. It only means that you don't like to socialize. So you can have an anti-social character whose dragging their feet and internally bitching but still part of whatever action is going on at the moment.

The same way you can have a frightened character refuse to go with a stranger but still doing some kind of action that can progress the story forward. All it takes is remembering that the story isn't all about you and that it needs to progress somehow.
