PREMISE.
VEIL OF IGNORANCE is a sci-fi/fantasy rp inspired by mecha anime, moral philosophy, and the People’s History of the United States. Set in the speculative world of the Egressian Empire, our story starts during the testing phase of PROJECT VRTU, an endeavor to create weapons out of people capable of Miracles. With a cast of both researchers and test subjects, our characters will be forced to confront who they were, who they are, and who they will be.
Specifically, PROJECT VRTU is an armament research project funded by L'Universite De Apollonio and the government of the Egressian Empire. It is intended to create the next weapon to end all war, including the current cold war with Telorev, a rival country. Ultimate safety is what the Project offers. Its team has worked tirelessly for the past year to turn its test subjects, all capable of extra-worldly abilities, into cyborgs that are near indestructible. Our plot begins with the Project transitioning to testing, which consists of our team going undercover as a bounty hunting team and taking down a rap sheet of increasingly difficult bounties.

Hi everyone! VEIL OF IGNORANCE is a labor of love and a game of choice. That means that I'm looking for people to fill specific roles for the game but I want each character to be tailored to what you're passionate about exploring, both as a writer, as a roleplayer, and as a person. This is a game/rp intended to explore some major moral questions, specifically through the lens of living in a pseudo-democracy and late stage capitalist society, but also other themes, such as humanity, what do we owe to those we love, etc. But, most of all, I'm looking to write a fun and engaging story where every character goes on their own hero's journey.
This group is intended to be "lazy but literate," which means I plan for this to be a slow, steady race to the end where we write what inspires us most, when it inspires us most. If that sounds fun to you, check out our cast!

Our cast consists of TEST SUBJECTS and RESEARCHERS of Project VRTU. There are six roles and two spots for original characters. The following information in this interest check is NOT the full information for each role.

PROGENITOR 𖥔 You wield the Miracle of Life Manipulation. You are able to transmute any living or once-living object into another object of similar or smaller mass. In practice, this looks like turning a piece of cotton fabric into a frog or a frog into a clump of mushrooms.
CRUCIBLE 𖥔 You wield the Miracle of Holy Flame. You can start fire within people's bodies and any natural object. In practice, this looks like setting someone's organs on fire or starting a bonfire from a bunch of sticks and wool.
ORACLE 𖥔 You wield the Miracle of discerning the Future. You receive a Prophecy whenever it is plot-relevant and you can discern someone's intentions.
SORCERER 𖥔 You are the Weapons Specialist of Project VRTU, overseeing all the designs, manufacturing, and repairs of the cybernetic parts. As such, you are able to design new cybernetic parts and repair any of the Test Subjects.
CREATOR 𖥔 When you agreed to join Project VRTU, you were in the process of developing the Suspended Consciousness Valve (SCV), which gives life to the cyborg bodies. As per your contract, you are Team Leader, second only to Project Director. Therefore, you hold immense sway. All NPCs are significantly more inclined to listen to you and offer up information freely.
ARCHITECT 𖥔 You are Head Programmer of Project VRTU, having developed the Control Framework, which allows for complete control of the Test Subjects' cyborg forms. Because of this, you are able to exert your will over any Test Subject. (Abuse of this ability will not be tolerated and any writer will be consulted before this is done).

There are two oc spots: one as a Test Subject and another as a Researcher/Part of the Research team.
GUIDELINES FOR A TEST SUBJECT:
— give your character a "role" title that's a Virtue (ex. faith, temperance, hope, tolerance, wisdom, etc.)
— your character has to have a Miracle. Some ideas are for these are:
- Divine Joy — you are able to manipulate the feelings of those around you.
- Holy Body — you can replicate and sprout pieces of your body from the surface of any object or living thing.
- Rest — you can cast darkness, shadows, and make people fall asleep at will.
- Contrition — you are able to manipulate the appearance of things and can cast illusions.
- Crusader's Shield — you can turn people invisible and generate forcefields.
— give your character a "role" title that's a Vice (ex. pride, wrath, avarice, greed, etc.)
— your character has a job on the Researcher Team. Ideas for this are:
- EEG Nanobots — the system that monitors brain function and the endocrine system, along with repairing the cells in synthetic organs. POTENTIAL SPECIALTY: you are able to monitor the biometric data of all who use eeg nanobots (which would be most of the team because of their healing properties). You can deduce their feelings, amongst other facets, based on this data.
- Surgeon — someone has to put together all these cyborgs! POTENTIAL SPECIALTY: able to heal anyone. If an oc with this specialty is accepted, I would likely edit Apathy so they can only create new cybernetics.
- Public Relations — the person who is hired to handle public perception of the university, and eventually, public perception of the project. POTENTIAL SPECIALTY: you are able to tell when someone is lying.
- Investor — someone who has (or their family has) invested in the project. POTENTIAL SPECIALTY: you are able to get access to project information that others do not have access to upon request (which may not always be fulfilled lol).

Player Behavior + Activity
This roleplay features mature themes. Please be 18+.
Furthermore, bigoted behavior and language, along with any other unkind behavior to others, will not be tolerated and will result in player removal.
It is expected that each player writes three posts per month, 1-3 paragraphs per post. However, I hope players write according to what they think best fits their character and the scene at hand.
Failure to meet this without being active OOC may result in your character being removed. If you give me a heads-up that you're not going to be able to post for a while, I can write around that or open up a new role that might fill some of the holes in the plot. Essentially, I can write around any absence and would hate to lose you because of ghosting.
Gameplay
VEIL OF IGNORANCE is a limited-run roleplay that will be written on Discord with Character Sheets and major plot information posted on RPN. It is estimated that the RPG will take nine months to a year to complete. This timeframe is completely dependent on group activity.
The gameplay element of VOI comes from the fact that it is a GAME OF CHOICE. As in, the choices your characters make impact the story, and I, as the DM, will deliberately write in plot-defining choices. However, beyond that, I will tailor elements of the game and the plot to your character and any other plotting. I think the easiest way to think of VOI is as a DnD group but without the dice. I'm the DM, trying to give you both an entertaining plot with stakes while also include your character and develop them further.
DISCORD is also where we will do the majority of our writing.

Sheets can either be posted in a CS Thread I'll make once I get enough interest OR you can PM it to me (especially if you have info you might not want other players to know). You can also use Google Docs, Notion, or another form to create your CS. Essentially, however you want to format or get your CS to me, I'm chill with that.
