Ravyn

Health

Stamina

Magical Energy
<warning: contains mature themes: anorexia>

Ravyn entered the gym with a surprising spring in her step. She had taken the past couple of days easy to get herself all in order, which meant making some much-needed adjustments to her uniform. She was able to locate some resources to alter her dress to be a little more... fashionable. She had taken the gloves and cut them apart to add as insets to the skirt. Now, it had cute, hidden white pleats! She also may or may not have made the skirt itself a little shorter but who's gonna measure it anyways...

After her days of rest, Ravyn was ready to get back into an athletic regimen. At the notion of totally free time and a pool, the redhead was elated. As soon as Vince finished his introduction and released everyone, Ravyn almost immediately headed off to change into a swimsuit. One thing did linger in the back of her head: the flirtatious way in which Vince said to let him know if they needed help with the swimsuits...
Ravyn got her mind out of the gutter as she noticed the ever stoic Frederika headed the same way out of the corner of her eye. Hot, athletic girl in a swimsuit? This should be good.

Ravyn made her way into the changing rooms to put on the swimsuit. It wasn't the cutest thing ever, but it could be worse. Ravyn looked into the mirror and her face fell. Had two days of rest really done that much? Had she gained weight?? After she swam, Ravyn decided, she would make sure to get in a very good workout on the equipment to get back the thin, perfect, barbie doll frame she wanted. No matter how hard she tried, though, Ravyn could never have she shape she wanted. No matter how much she sacrificed, she could never be perfect.

Ravyn shook out her head and walked away from her reflection to put her uniform in a locker and grab a towel. She couldn't eat any less than she already was, so the only option was to work off the pounds. She could run on the treadmill or do some squats and lifts. Ravyn wasn't much of a weightlifter, plus that wasn't really a fat-burning exercise. The gym had a lot of equipment. Surely Ravyn could find something.

In reality, Ravyn's body was as thin as it could possibly be. Emaciated even. She was skin, bones, and some muscle. She was a delicate flower. A beautiful flower, but very, very delicate. And she was pretty. Even if you could count her ribs, there weren't many flaws. Ravyn just could see the beauty she held. In the distortion, she always felt there was something to fix, and the way she went around fixing it left an empty hole in her stomach, bones as brittle as glass, and sinking despair in her mind...

~

The redhead returned to the group, ready for a mostly relaxing day at the pool. Any sign of unhappiness was totally gone. The bubbly smile was back to stay.

She didn't plan on doing anything extreme, so she left her long, voluminous hair down. Plus, she felt like the Little Mermaid when she swam. Always a bonus. Then, Ravyn's eyes tracked to Frederika. Hot damn! Emphasis on the hot! Dem legs! And abs! Holy guacamole! That was one smexy German! Out of literally every single person in the world who could be Otherworlders, Ravyn was chosen with a group of literal models. This was great. So totally great.

"May I ask one of you to quickly braid my hair before I delve into the pool? I suspect having a veritable parachute attached to my head will do little for my lap times."

Fredi's call for help snapped Ravyn out of her daydream. She understood just enough to know that Frederika needed help braiding her hair.

"I got you, babes!" Ravyn responded brightly as she flounced over to her. "I can do regular, French, fishtail, or Dutch. Y'know what, you'd look super cute with double Dutch braids! Is that alright with you?"

Location: gym, Vehemen Academy
Mentions: Fredi, Ravyn

It's been two days since the assessment, and although the wounds that marred Usami's body disappeared like ashes into the air, there was nothing that could be done about the cold hard truth that facing monsters and possibly dying from bodily injuries would become the norm for the rest of her life... Usami briefly looked over to the people she was walking with. Of course, they would have had similar thoughts at some point too. That is unless they've already accepted their new life in Lumen and the dangers that came with it.

The second was the fact that she was in school again. Studying courses, from which were far from what she expected to learn, with the addition of having to push through an army in a narrow hallway every day was something she thought she escaped once she graduated high school. Now she was being thrown back into the arena with nothing but a twig to protect herself. To say the least, she didn't miss the feeling of attending school at all, but at least the food was good and her company- Usami glanced at some of them again. Well, she was still getting used to.

Upon entering the gymnasium, Usami winced from looking at the contraptions that littered the vast room. The man, who introduced himself as Vince Elvelo, seemed decent. However, Usami's impression of the man changed when she learned that it was he who organized the simulation. It made Usami feel a bit sour. She subconsciously narrowed her eyes by a fraction while using whoever was in front of her as a shield to hide her apparent dislike for the man.

Even after the rundown of the place, Usami still felt discontent, but for a millisecond, Vince Elvelo sounded like an angel from above once Usami learned that her body wouldn't be pushed to its limits. Usami took note of his warning before he left, and even if there hadn't been any clashes with students as of late, there was still a possibility of trouble arising through the veil of peace. The lanky girl chose to wander around the gym in search of a place to pass the time. The workout equipment was not even considered an option. A chair or a lonely bench would suit her preferences, but Usami would make do with anything. The rehabilitation facilitations appeared to have caught some of Usami's interest. Perhaps it was from the way her eyes lingered or the subtle shift of her legs as she stood in place?

Usami turned the other direction as she heard Frederika asking for some assistance. All the while, the interest in the previous matter was quick to dissolve itself from her mind.

She noticed there were already some of the Third Gens, more like Frederika and Ravyn, who had chosen to take a dip in the pool. It has been a long time since Usami's been in a pool, so the opportunity struck her like one she shouldn't pass up. Usami made her way to the changing rooms where Mr. Elvelo had mentioned there were swimming garments already provided. She ended up choosing a one-piece swimsuit and chose a locker to place her belongings. Such belongings would entail a decent-sized satchel that contained her school supplies; a quick trip to the store during one of the lunch periods proved to be a wise choice. Then attached to the satchel was a green frog plushie and it dangled freely from its side- another wise purchase from the store. Usami's gym clothes were stacked in the locker as well.

On the way out of the changing room, Usami took notice of a pile of pool floats shoved in a large basket near the corner of the locker room. Usami felt childish as she went to grab one, but she took one anyway. Anyone who walked into the locker room at that moment would witness Usami fitting herself into the donut-shaped floatie and squishing its sides as if she were testing its durability. "This should do it," she said to herself in a bland tone. Then, she was off to the pool.

Usami spotted the other two girls- both of which looked toned and muscled like carved Grecian statues- braiding their hairs. Meanwhile, Usami looked down at herself- a lanky looking child. The girl turned herself around, swallowing the embarrassment that built up in her throat. She placed herself near the shallow end of the pool and tested the waters with her toes before dipping herself in the water. At some point, she had switched her position and was sitting on top of the pool float rather than within in. Usami doesn't like having her hair tied up, so the long tresses of black hair floated around her like a dark halo. The dark-haired girl floated around the pool whether it be circles or zigzags. "Wake me up when it's time to go," she mumbled before closing her eyes.

Magical Enegry

It had been two day's since the simulation, and Hanna was feeling pretty good. She had survived the simulation despite having multiple broken ribs, and when she stepped out of the simulation, she felt fine. Like she was never thrown into a tree at unfathomable speeds. However, after the simulation, she had pretty much accepted the fact that this would be her life now. She would be essentially forced to fight monsters for people she didn't even know. "Will I be strong enough?" She asked herself constantly. She knew that if she wanted to protect others, and her friends, she'd have to train, more then ever before, to push her body to the absolute limit in order for everyone to make it out of this alive. And today was the perfect day to start said training.

Today, she was in the gym, and met the teacher that was suppose to supervise their progress in the simulation. Vince Elvelo, a pretty name, and it fit him perfectly. He explained to them how the swimsuits, and Hanna scoffed at his comment about coming to him if the magic didn't work. "So your one of those guys, huh?" She said quietly to herself. She started to weigh her options on what she should do. Hanna wanted to work out, but she couldn't really do that in a bikini, and she refused to do it in her school uniform, and walk around all sweaty for the rest of the day.

"I need to go shopping." Hanna sighed to herself. She decided that she would have to pass on doing any weights today. "Guess I'll swim today. Swimming is good, works out the whole body." Hanna muttered to herself as she walked into the changing rooms, bikini in hand. Just like Vince said before, it changed size to fit her body perfectly, and it didn't even look all that bad. Hanna looked at herself in the mirror. She was toned, not totally swol or anything, but nothing to scoff at either. Hanna pointed at herself in the mirror, "Lookin good sexy" She said before exiting the changing room.

Hanna scanned the room. She first saw Usami relaxing in the pool, and then her eyes drifted over to her roommate, and felt a blush come across her face. Her mind screamed at her as she took in Fredi's body. Her abs! Those thighs! Hanna was weak for Fredi, and in the little time that she had known her, had come to terms with her very small crush. She decided to not fry her brain, and went over to the person directly behind her, with was Ravyn. "H-hey! we should totally go swimming! with...uhh...um, Usami!" She said a little too loudly.

ADRIAN SEPTEMBER

Magical Energy

The time since the simulation had passed without much excitement, quite the stark contrast from when the Otherworlders had arrived. For Adrian, it was a greatly appreciated break from the earlier break-neck pace. The past two days had mostly comprised of going to classes and getting settled in to their new lives. It was about as mundane as life could get here, a fact that was strangely reassuring given how decidedly not mundane Adrian's world had become. Still, he found himself growing more and more used to the new environment. Perhaps a good thing, perhaps not.

Adrian entered the gym with the others, gym uniform in tow and somewhat curious about the next class. Weapons and combat training was by far the most unusual class on the schedule, but none of the group had yet to actually experience it. And, seeing how the class was being held in the gym rather than the training room, it appeared that wouldn't be changing just yet. Inside the gym stood one of the professors, the pale-haired one that had been there at the end of the simulation. Once they were all gathered, the man introduced himself as Vince Elvelo, speaking shortly of what their task for the day was and waving the gathered students away.

With their instructor gone now, Adrian peered around at the gym, admiring the vast collection of equipment. While it was a bit worrying that the teachers had seen fit to specifically warn the Otherworlders against damaging the equipment, it wasn't as if that was actually an issue. At least, not for Adrian. He couldn't say the same for all of his companions. Besides, Adrian had little interest in approaching the exercise equipment for the moment. After these few days, it was becoming increasingly apparent that either his consumption of caffeine had dropped significantly or the days were taking much more out of him. Either way, he lacked the energy and motivation to put any real effort in exercising.

Quickly zeroing in on the changing rooms, Adrian slipped into one and appraised the waiting swimsuit. It was nothing special, just a pair of large swim trunks. He undressed and pulled the baggy article of clothing on, as always simultaneously intrigued and off-put by the way the dark fabric changed shape to match his form. After storing his belongings in a locker and making sure that the swimsuit fit properly, Adrian exited the changing room, making a beeline for the pool.

Thankfully, though the gym had a chillness originating from its size and the presence of such a large quantity of water, the pool itself was relatively warm. First dipping a single foot, then both, Adrian judged the temperature suitable to him, and leapt into the water, breaking the surface with a large splash. He resurfaced a few seconds later, slicking back his dark, wet hair with one hand. Bobbing in the water for a brief period, Adrian quickly came to realize something. There wasn't actually that much to do in a pool, was there? Well, there was, of course, swimming, but the warmth of the water quickly swept away any of Adrian's intentions of doing that. No, he was feeling much more opposed to action now. He glanced around the area at the others, looking for any ideas he could perhaps imitate.

There was Frederika and Ravyn, the latter attempting to tame the former's voluminous hair, and heading their way was Hanna, whose complexion appeared a little more ruddy than usual. Not exactly what he was looking for. Finally, Adrian's eyes alighted upon Usami, who was languorously drifting upon a circular pool float. Quite the wonderful idea, he realized. Swimming over to the side of the pool, Adrian pulled himself onto solid land, soaked to the bone and feeling much colder beyond the haven of the warm water. Hissing silently, he hastened his pace, making a beeline for the locker room and dripping with every step.

Inside, he spotted an array of pool floats, the collection just as impressive as the rest of the academy. Sifting through them, Adrian picked out a dark, rectangular piece large enough to fit his entire body on and then some. In a typical pool, this sort of float would have taken up too much space to justify using. But Vehemen's pool was far from small, and given how few people were using it, he doubted that anyone would complain.

Adrian tucked the float under one arm and headed back towards the water, having spent long enough outside of it that its comforting warmth had left him. He dropped the float onto the surface of the water and slowly lowered himself onto it. As Adrian settled into his place and his weight forced the float deeper into the pool, warm water rose to envelop his legs. Adrian closed his eyes and sighed, leaning back into the rubbery surface. Aah, how relaxing.

Elise Friedhelm.

Elise stood at the edge of the poolside, gazing into the deep end of the water which would surely wash above her head even if she were to stand completely straight. She sighed, turning her gaze away from one troubling thought to the next. While she had been contemplating over whether or not she’d bother to dip her feet into the chlorinated water, Professor Elvelo had brought up the topic of fighting with other classes’ students being prohibited, no doubt a reference to their scuffle in the cafeteria the other day. After answering his instructions to watch over the third generation with a gloomy, “yes sir,” the girl trudged into the locker room to change into her school-issued swimsuit.

When Elise reemerged from the locker room, she was clad in a standard one-piece with her hair tied into a simple ponytail. Regardless of the current environment being ill-suited for such accessories, her flower hairpin remained snug in her hair. It wasn’t good to get it wet, but she had zero intentions to remain within even three feet of the pool’s perimeter anyway. She wasn’t incapable of swimming, per se, if being capable of staying afloat and moving around in the water counted. It’s just that she cut a rather sorry figure while doing so.

In any case, it appeared that the majority of the students were taking this time to relax, what with Usami and Adrian floating lazily in (and on) their pool floats. Hanna and Frederika, on the other hand, seemed fired up to swim laps, but at least none of them held malicious intentions akin to when Luri thought it would be fun to suplex her into the pool. As for the chaos that ensued, it was a bitter yet pleasant memory.

“Remember to stretch before going in for a swim,” Elise called out to Ravyn, Fredi, and Hanna in the friendliest (though still meek) tone she could muster. However, instead of joining them, the girl turned to take a seat on one of the beach chairs strewn about the area. She had briefly contemplated heading off to do some basic strength training or calisthenics but decided to keep watch in the general area in case any rats decided to crawl in and cause trouble.

Kiyoshi was pleasantly surprised to have discovered that their first day in no way set the tone for the rest of their experience here in Lumen — if he'd had to go through a Poex battle, a lunchroom fight, and a combat simulation every day, he didn't know if he could handle it. Thankfully, it seemed as if the Lumen gods (or at least the Vehemen Academy administration) were kind and thought to save further stresses for later.

Kiyoshi was in no way naive enough to think that the aforementioned stresses would never come, but he'll take what he could get.

He paid close attention to what their combat instructor was saying. Mr. Elvelo was decent — Kiyoshi didn't feel instinctively put off by either him or Mr. Kikuchi as he did by the principal and vice principal, although he was always a bit stunned by how overwhelmingly happy the other man was at any given time. Even now, he was beaming as though he was face-to-face with a celebrity rather than a gaggle of young adults who were still trying to get their feet under them. Even if Kiyoshi hadn't been as pragmatic as he was, he had a hard time imagining himself even half as emotionally unrestrained as their teacher.

Even with Mr. Elvelo saying quite plainly that they were free to do whatever they wanted, Kiyoshi had to blink once or twice for that to sink in. And after it did, he was still left hesitating. Whereas others might have leapt excitedly at the opportunity to cut loose, Kiyoshi was at a loss as to what exactly fun entailed. His preferred way to wind down was sinking into the company of a good book, or rolling up his sleeves to clean his living space — neither of which were feasible where they were right now, unfortunately. And while he was no stranger to physical conditioning, he felt a little awkward at the thought of doing anything in the company of so many others, even if they were unlikely to be paying attention to him.

He supposed he could — enjoy the pool, in a limited capacity. He had no problems at all with the others changing into their swim clothes of course, but he was fairly sure he knew what to expect from the swimming clothes: a pair of shorts for him, most likely, and at the moment he didn't think he wanted to go the route of baring his whole torso to all and sundry. He called it his sense of propriety, others might call it his prudish sensibilities. At the very least, even if he were open to being shirtless in the company of the Otherworlders, he absolutely was not with the mention that other students might, at any given moment, wander it.

Instead of going to the locker rooms to change, Kiyoshi made his way over to the edge of the pool, sitting down easily and propping his legs up. He rolled the ends of the pants legs up, just barely above his knees, and then slipped both his legs into the water, which proved to be pleasantly warm. This was relaxing, wasn't it? And it was fairly fun. At this point, anything not involving a Poex or any form of conflict would be fun. And it was a good vantage point: he could see from end to end, so his powers were usable in case any conflicts did break out (he was not confident in his peers' ability to stay out of one, especially if they were given a good reason to), and he could keep an eye on the others as well.

Speaking of that, he allowed his gaze to drift to the others, taking note of what they were doing and doing a mental headcount, just to make sure that no one had disappeared on their way back from the locker rooms or slipped in the deep end and drowned. Ravyn had her hands in Frederika's hair, presumably tying it up, while Hanna, face pink, hovered nearby. Usami was floating in the pool with her hair splayed behind her, and Adrian had lain back on a float on the pool's surface. He was fairly sure that was every Third Worlder accounted for, undrowned and well.

"Deutsche braids?" Frederika responded with, having misheard the flame-haired girl. "Very well, I supposed if that is what you recommend. So long as I am not expected to be singing about killing rabbits subsequently." She sat quietly in place while Rayvn went about her hair, weaving it this way and that with a speed and precision that indicated her experience in the matter. Truth be told, though her hair was always kept in proper condition, she rarely tended to style it much beyond tying it up when she was performing one of her more athletic pursuits; otherwise it was simply just a flaxen mane that billowed out behind her like a cloak in a strong breeze. It is just as well, she thought, her eyes closing in quiet contemplation. I highly doubt there are many who are particularly drawn to my appearance regardless. As Rayvn finished up her handiwork, securing the end of braids with a set of ties, Frederika gave an experimental shake of her head to check how it would feel under load, thanking the other girl with a Dankeshoen as she stood, dutifully performing her standard set of stretches to satisfy Elise's motherly requests.

She strode over to the pool edge, dipping a toe in before clambering down the ladder attached nearby. The water was warmer than she expected; relaxing for certain, but hardly ideal for peak performance. Indeed, as she warmed up with a few slow laps, she could already feel her muscles heating up a lot faster than expected, and it was only two or three laps into her actual attempts to time herself than she chose to stop, realizing that this wasn't the time nor place to truly push herself. So, with a slow exhalation to recover her breath, she raised an arm out of the pool, waving for the remainder of land-lubbers to join. Then she slowly floated her way over to where Usami and Adrian were floating and began to tread water. "Greetings, fellow students. How are you faring today? Any residual soreness from our harrowing trials prior?"

"Deutsche braids? Very well, I supposed if that is what you recommend. So long as I am not expected to be singing about killing rabbits subsequently."

Ravyn was utterly baffled by Frederika's statement, but rolled with it and chuckled slightly. She deftly finished and tied off the braids.

"Bam!" the redhead chirped. "There you go, gorgeous!"

As Ravyn got up, she noticed her fellow classmate, Hanna, standing behind her.

"H-hey! we should totally go swimming! with...uhh...um, Usami!"

Ravyn noted the blush, stutters, and glances towards Frederika and couldn't help but grin. She looked from Fredi to Hanna deliberately and winked. Oh yeah, Ravyn's ship was on fiyah! Now she has to start thinking of ship names...
"Of course! We should probably stretch first though! Elise's orders!"

The redhead took a few steps away to give to pair some space. That ship was so setting sail if it's the last thing Ravyn does. She then did a few arms stretches before sliding into her right, middle and left splits by simply shifting her hips. At least she could still do that. Cheerleader things! She may or may not have been showing off a little. Just an itty bitty bit.

After her brief stretch, Ravyn made her way to the pool. She waded in, quickly getting used to the water. She even let out a little sigh as she glided into the warm pool. This was a welcomed change of pace from their... chaotic start in Lumen. Her nightmares like from the first night had persisted, but they weren't as terrifying as before. However, they still prevented her from getting a full night of sleep.
Pushing thoughts of Poex and other stresses aside, the redhead fully submerged herself in the water and meandered under the surface. After a moment, she floated up the top, and Ravyn turned to lay on her back. She made a quick scan of the pool. Usami and Adrian were vibing in innertubes with Fredi, Elise was vibing on a beach chair, and Kiyoshi was sitting at the edge of the pool. Target acquired. He was sitting there fully clothed? That couldn't be comfortable at all! Thankfully, Ravyn was there to step in and help.

The redhead made her way over to Kiyoshi with a bubbly smile.

"Heya angelcakes, how're you doing?"

Ravyn waved and 'accidentally' flung a strangely large amount of water onto Kiyoshi's shirt. Her eyes widened, and she did a very good job of acting surprised and embarrassed.
"Oh my gosh! I am so sorry! Here, let me help."

Before Kiyoshi could even protest, Ravyn was telekinetically unbuttoning his shirt and yoink! It was gone! Mission accomplished. Kiyoshi has been saved. He'd thank her later, surely.
"There we go. Very sorry about that. So, have you been holding up ok since the simulation?"

Barely cracking an eye open, Usami turned her head to find whoever spoke. "Huh?" Her partially dazed face turned into an expression of confusion as she noticed her float was partially submerged beneath the surface. In her time of relaxation, she failed to realize her float slowly losing its air. She was discontent with her decision to go out to get a different one. She would most likely be cold once she leaves the comfort that the heated pool provided. She should probably address whoever approached her first though. Usami did have a bad habit of unintentionally ignoring people.

Usami felt her own awkwardness toward the blonde. Moreso because Usami was still trying to observe the people around her. The dark-haired girl sat rather stiffly in her float as she watched Frederika cruise through the water as if it were butter- her muscles acting like a smooth butter knife. Usami got the impression that she was either already fully recovered or functioned perfectly fine despite having sore limbs... Usami, unsurprisingly, was neither as she had the hardest time getting out of bed and getting herself into her uniform without her muscles spazzing out for the past two days. "Yes... Very sore," Usami responded blandly.

Usami carefully pushed her body up but realized her mistake as it only made the float sink a bit deeper. She tried to keep a neutral expression, but the ounce of panic was nonetheless still there. She looked at her surroundings for the wall ladder along the edge of the pool. If anything, she could attempt to float on her own? Usami was a bit reluctant though. What if she got a sudden muscle cramp while she was at the deep end of the pool and sank to the bottom without anyone noticing? Usami couldn't remember whether or not she stretched before entering the pool... Usami turned back to Frederika and asked, "Uh- and you?"

Adrian blinked lazily as he drifted across the water, feeling more and more slothful with each passing moment. With the arrival of Kiyoshi, all of the Third Generation had gathered at the pool. It seemed no one was interested in the gym equipment. Flinching lightly in surprise as a familiar accented voice spoke up from behind, he twisted in the water, turning to face Frederika. The tall girl was treading water, Ravyn's handiwork showing in the set of braids her hair was tied back in, and listening to Usami, who he'd inadvertently drifted near at some point.

He glanced over at the other tube-hermit and narrowed his eyes in confusion. Usami seemed to be lower in the water than she had been a few moments ago. Was it his eyes playing tricks on him? Adrian peered closer at the waterline of her float. No, he decided, she was definitely sinking. He opened his mouth to speak then closed it hesitantly. "I'm good," Adrian responded to Frederika instead, splashing his feet quietly. "And you?" Surely if there was a problem, Usami would've spoken up already, right?

Satisfied with his brilliant, flawless deduction, Adrian looked away to observe the others. Ravyn, having completed her stretching routine, dove into the water and made her way over to Kiyoshi. The other boy was perched on the edge of the pool, oddly fully-dressed. A bit strange, for sure, but Adrian was quickly coming to realize that his new roommate was exactly that: a bit strange.

The redhead sashayed (as much as one could sashay in the water) up to the uniformed boy and spoke. Unfortunately, Adrian was not close enough to catch her words, though he could guess their contents from previous experience. What he did catch, however, was the veritable pillar of water that rose into the air and crashed into Kiyoshi, soaking his clothes. Adrian choked on air at the sight of what was most certainly not an accident, nearly tumbling off the side of his own floatation device. Quickly reorienting himself, he turned away from the pair, schooling his expression into one of absolute, stone-faced calm. He saw nothing, heard nothing, remembered nothing.

Of all the things Kiyoshi were expecting, to be forcibly stripped was probably near the end of that list. He had unconsciously braced himself when Ravyn came closer, expecting to be caught off-guard with some flirtation or term of endearment, which in his defense did come to fruition. However, he wasn't even given a chance to respond to the bubbly angelcakes before water splashed onto his chest.

He blinked, stunned. His eyes flicked down onto his shirt, now uncomfortably wet and clinging. It seemed, he thought, a rather extraordinary amount of water, but at the end of the day it was no serious harm done. Ravyn was wide-eyed and apologetic, and he shook his head at her apologies. "No worries, Ravyn," he cut in. He pulled his legs out of the water and made to stand. It truly was not a major issue; after all, water dried easily, if he couldn't manage to find some spare shirt to change into. "It's not a—"

He didn't get to finish his sentence before he felt a tugging at the buttons of his shirt, but scarcely had he even registered that before some invisible force yanked his shirt off. It was instinct that had him flushing pink, and he automatically crossed his arms in an attempt to obscure the skin that was revealed. "Ravyn," he said, embarrassed, too flustered to even make a pretense of answering the question she posed him. "I—appreciate your efforts to help, but I really do not mind a wet shirt."

True to Vince's warning, the Otherworlders soon found that they quickly lost their monopoly on the gymnasium. More students began to trickle into the gym, some from their own training classes, while others simply lucked out and had a shorter class than usual. Fortunately, there wasn't more than a handful of newcomers, and the few that entered the pool left the Otherworlders well alone.

At least, that was the case until a familiar trio sauntered into the pool area with predatory grins.

"Well, I heard from one of our professors that our dearest Otherworlders would be here today. I'm glad I'm not disappointed!" Richard Dickson exclaimed. They were already donned in their swimsuits, no doubt having arrived with the intention of crashing the little pool party.

Near the Otherworlders, a young man with a single lilac eye sighed.

"I'd hoped for a reprieve from our class, yet now it seems we must thole the presence of this obstreperous imbecile," he muttered quietly to his friend from atop his floating tube. He eyed Richard's attire critically, "And with his usual panache, I see."

Though the Otherworlders may not be familiar, the other students were quick to notice that the trio's swimwear was of expensive brands that were broadly known in Lumen. In other words, not the school-issued swimwear.

"Brutus, Regina, let's join our friends and dive in, shall we?" Richard said. Brutus huffed out a laugh and stepped towards where Kiyoshi and Ravyn were hanging out. Without warning, he leaped up and cannonballed into the pool. The water splashed towards the duo and any unfortunate students nearby.

"Wait for me~" Regina sang. She rushed towards the pool, eyes glinting when she saw Hanna standing near the edge. She veered off her course and barreled straight into Hanna, knocking her into the water before diving in herself. Without giving them any time for retaliation, Regina swam beneath Usami and abruptly emerged, effectively knocking the floatie off-balance and bringing the girl tumbling into the water. "Oops! Sorry about that you two!"

Richard clicked his tongue in mock disdain.

"Sorry about them. So clumsy, those two," he sighed even as the corners of his eyes crinkled in amusement.

Fredi_gym.pngFrederika nodded sagely to Usami. "Yes, unfortuntately muscle fatigue can be persistent after exertion; your fibers need time to rest and recover from the exhaustion of energy substrates and build up of waste metabolites. If you would like, I have a list of recommended after workout recovery drinks I can lend you." She looked over to the black haired girl, and had a strange realization: at the beginning of the conversation she'd had to look over the edge of flotation device Usami was on, but now she was locking eyes with her at "sea level", as it were. Did she deliberately lower herself to listen to my advice? Wunderbar! I can see she's invested in strengthening herself to overcome her current limitations. With a nod of approval at Usami, she continued. "As for me, perhaps it is unfair to remark but I do not seem to be afflicted with any negative conditions post our mission yesterday. I suspect I have the strange set of powers I've been given to thank for my rapid recovery."

"Ah, gut gut Adrian," she replied similarly to Adrian, closing her eyes momentarily as she rattled off her recommended action: "Make sure you consume an appropriate amount of protein throughout the day to aid your rebuilding. Lean meats and much stretching is also recommended, though actually pool work is quite excellent at conditioning the appropriate muscles as long as you do not overdo it." However, when she reopened them, Adrian seemed not to be hanging onto every vital word she espoused, but rather seemed to be staring past far behind her. Curious, she turned in place slowly, the water resisting her efforts with every stroke. "What is so interesting, mein Fruen-"

She missed the first half of whatever was going on between Rayvn and Kiyoshi, but it was not hard to recognize the latter's apparel being forcibly removed against his will. The German girl sighed, her braids flitting to and fro in the water as she shook her head. Well, at least she's being friendly with him as well, given everything that happened yesterday. A small debate arose within her whether she should say something, but the sudden appearance of other students, and unfortunately, the troublemaker gang from that one lunch kept her from saying anything, lest it be used for further slander against them. "Ugh," she muttered in an undertone to Adrian and a somewhat flustered Usami, keeping her eyes on the trio, "I see we have gained an audience now." Indeed, the immediate actions they took a few minutes after they'd entered the pool spoke exactly to their intent, as Ravyn and Kiyoshi took a wall of water to the face from an "errant" cannonball, and Hanna took a floor of water to her face as she was knocked in from an "errant" dive. A low growl emanated from Fredi, and she turned to look at the two others askance. "Stay together and be on your guard, fellow companions. And be prepared for anything."

With that, she speedswam over to her roommate (completely missing the saboteur moving beneath her to take out the S.S. Usami) and, bracing against the side of the pool, hauled Hanna upright, her arm wrapped about the smaller girl's torso as the she brought her in close to herself, stabilizing her head above water. "Bitte ängstigen Sie sich nicht darüber, Fraulein, it is me."

This stressful feat to remain calm (on the outside, at least) appeared to be working as neither of the others bothered to ask. Nevertheless, she was relieved because had either of them asked, she would be faced with more embarrassment to last her for weeks. Nothing could be worse than being pulled along as if she was some child. Her parents used to do that to her- an unpleasant image of an adolescent Usami sitting on top of a ducky float with a rope attached to her at-the-time healthy father made her cheeks bloom with pink.

She gave herself a mental slap on her cheeks as if trying to hide them. No, that won't do... So, there Usami was, listening to Frederika and her words of post-exercise wisdom, instead of asking for help. Frederika's quirk, as she just mentioned, made sense to the ever-sinking Usami- not just by her appearance but her past performances as well. "Workout recovery drinks...?"

She stole a small glance at Adrian, noticing that he wasn't fully present in their conversation- something must have caught his eye. Usami thought nothing of the sound of splashes going about from behind her. So out of the three, she did not turn to look at what was going on. Enough time must have passed for other students to roll in- just as Vince said. With their attention away from her, Usami was left to think of ways out of her pickle. She remembered where the ladder along the edge of the pool was. If she could slowly drift in that direction, she should be able to get out of the pool and switch her float without anyone knowing there was a problem.

Unfortunately, Usami was too slow to heed Frederika's warning; the reason being she was too occupied with her own troubled thoughts. (It was surprisingly loud in there.) As a result, Usami was much too late to ask Adrian and prepare. For in a single moment, a strong force knocked her from under and pushed her into the water.

It was an unpretty sight- the type where her legs were peeking above the surface when they shouldn't. Beneath the surface, Usami struggled to gain control of her movements. It was as if there was a hairy black tumbleweed dancing to its doom. Water already entered Usami's throat and the chlorine burned her sinuses. It must have been a few seconds since she went under, but her head broke through the surface eventually.

"Oops! Sorry about that you two," was all she could hear over her haggard coughs and gurgles. Her long black hair covered her face, obstructing her vision to figure out what was going on.

Usami didn't try to hide her distress this time around. With her limp vessel now lost, her arms were flailing in an ungraceful manner while she was in a struggle to cough out the pool water that persisted in entering her system. She kept falling back under due to her poor judgment. She assumed her foot would be able to touch the bottom of the pool and she'd be able to push herself back up, but Usami learned quickly that the bottom of the pool was completely unreachable. In her slumber, she must have drifted to the deep end.

The last one could see of her is the tresses of black hair and bubbles.

The first indication Adrian's so far pleasant day was going to be ruined came in the form of Frederika's voice.

"Ugh," the German girl grumbled quietly. "I see we have gained an audience now." Turning to look at whatever had caught her attention, Adrian spotted a familiar scourge. Other students had begun to filter into the gym, among whom were the three strangers from the Third Generation's first lunch in Lumen. The trio of dunces made their way to the pool with intentions that were, if the sharp smirks on their faces were any indication, far from friendly.

Trouble was incoming, it would seem. Adrian slouched deeper into his float and released a heavy sigh, something that he'd been doing more and more often as of late. He found himself resorting to the reliable, age-old strategy of ignoring problems until they went away, also something that found more use in recent times. Adrian closed his eyes and tuned his surroundings out, not willing to risk getting into another fight. The first one had been a mere two days ago and not only had that tanked the reputation of the entire group, but it had also very nearly gotten him into a great deal of trouble. A second would spell nothing but disaster.

But once again, it seemed that the universe was intent on spitting in his face, this time in the form of a loud splash nearby and a spattering of water. Hissing as the sudden wetness magnified the relative chill of the air, Adrian stirred on his float. He opened his eyes to a strange sight. Frederika had left and in her place was the female dunce, henceforth referred to as Duncette. Usami's float lay overturned and floating away across the pool, its rider floundering in the water besides him. Adrian rushed up from his place of rest, moving forward to offer aid to the struggling girl. Fortunately, she managed to resurface on her own before he reached her.

"Oops! Sorry about that you two!" Duncette apologized artificially. What little patience Adrian possessed snapped like a thread suspending a thrashing polar bear from the ceiling. He rounded on the bully, quite prepared to chew her out. And then he realized something was wrong. Usami had gone back underwater. Swearing wildly as he realized that she may not have been able to swim at all, Adrian threw himself into the water. He forced himself down through the chlorinated water, rushing to reach the drowning girl. She'd nearly sank to the bottom of the pool, which was far deeper than he'd have liked. Reaching Usami quickly, he reached out with both hands, bunching one fist into the fabric of her swimsuit and wrapping the other tightly around her left bicep. Heaving with all his strength, he pulled her up through the water. Propelling them upward with wild kicks, Adrian broke through the surface of the water with Usami in tow.

Struggling to stay afloat, Adrian released his grip on her swimsuit to opt for a firmer hold and swam towards the edge of the pool. Lifting the sodden girl partially out of the water, he shoved her roughly onto dry land and flung his arms over the lip of the pool wall. Coughing out some of the water he'd swallowed in his endeavor, Adrian gasped for air as he caught his breath. With the imminent danger out of the way, his anger came back to life and grew threefold.

Turning to face the cause of all his troubles, Adrian advanced on Duncette. Stay calm. Calm and collected, he told himself. No fighting. Resolve problems diplomatically and without conflict. He could do that. Finally in arm's reach of the stranger, Adrian smiled politely and placed a friendly hand on her shoulder. "Hey there, I've got a request. Would you please go and fuck off now, you useless bitch?"

Whoops.

Whoops.

what's self-censorship?

Ravyn stared up at Kiyoshi as he sputtered and blushed with the most innocent expression she'd ever made. Inside, she was squealing like a little girl with a puppy. This was becoming quite a bad habit and addiction. She should stop, for Kiyoshi's sake, but she wouldn't because bad habits only grow! Resuming her flirtatious antics, the redhead batted her eyelashes.

"It's so clingy and uncomfortable though! Plus, how are you going to enjoy this peace in the pool still in your uniform?" Ravyn giggled, "Why don't you jump on in! The water is really-"

Needless to say, Ravyn's sentence was stopped in its tracks due to a sudden blast of water. She was so deep in flirting she hadn't even noticed the trio of terror entering the pool, much less the brute running at them to ruin her fun with a watery explosion. After regaining her sense of place, Ravyn turned to face the moment-ruiner of the century. She slowly shoved away the dripping red lock plastered to her face...

Then, all hell broke loose as she allowed her true New York colors to fly. Ravyn screeched, "What the f*ck was that, you f*cking dickwad? Get your head out of your ass and watch what you're doing, you shit-for-brains!!" Her nasally native accent even made a special guest appearance for this special occasion.

A logical voice in the back of her head said to prepare for some sort of retaliation. Looking at her opponent, it probably wasn't going to be the verbal kind. Ravyn brought herself to the edge of the pool. In this position, she could easily jettison off under the water by pushing away from the wall, quickly climb out of the pool, or hide behind Kiyoshi. Or, she could just scream, but any option would work. In the meantime, the thoroughly pissed and overly wet Ravyn stared down Brutus with a fiery glare. Bring it on, bitch.

Elise Friedhelm.

After a few minutes of unblinkingly observing each and every head that passed through the pool complex’s doors like a hawk, Elise smoothed down her nerves and settled for reclining back in her pool chair. Being a school for hunters, the rules of regular schools back on earth were seldom upheld. Though reputations were at stake based on your words and actions, generally anything was fair game so long as you didn’t beat anyone within an inch of their lives or vandalized school property. Unfortunately, this meant troublemongers were a dime a dozen, but at least it seemed that today’s activities would pass without much fuss—

Or so she thought.

Elise’s eyes snapped open the moment she heard that vile voice which could make even the most peaceful of souls curl their lips back in disgust.

Thankfully, by the time Elise had adjusted to the now chaotic scene before her, Frederika and Adrian had already come to the aid of their distressed classmates. On the other hand, the long string of expletives that Ravyn spewed had Elise biting her lower lip to prevent herself from saying anything about yelling such vulgar language at the top of her lungs (though the blond and his posse really deserved no less). Rather than angry or nervous like the last time the two groups had butt heads, she was simply tired of their shenanigans. It was a wonder as to how the hooligans managed to work up the energy to bother them every single damn time. Still, with Professor’s Elvelo’s words in mind, she refocused her thoughts towards thinking of how to best diffuse the situation.

Elise could practically hear the low thrum of the cogs turning in her mind. She doubted the riffraff would do anything rash with Cleo, the most notoriously volatile of the current otherworlders, present, but she didn’t wish to overestimate Richard and co. 's intelligence too much either. What did her brother Thaniel often say to people like these, again?

“Why, yes, so very clumsy. Even toddlers know to leash their pets,” Elise said with more malice dripping off her tongue than intended. Though initially surprised when she had blurted out her innermost thoughts, she smoothly continued with a disdainful click of her tongue, “I guess money doesn’t define etiquette and a proper upbringing. Makes me wonder if such an otherwise repulsive person’s boot really tastes that good.”

Screw it. If they wanted a fight, she’d at least throw hands verbally.

This pool was alarmingly deep, Usami thought grimly as she continued to thrash about. Her efforts to scoop away the water between her and the surface was futile. Usami eventually halted her movements and admitted defeat. In her first act of defeat, she began to count the bubbles that floated above her. One bubble... Two bubbles...

Usami knew she should have been more careful. Then she mentally shook her head— no. If she could remember correctly, the voice she heard before going under was familiar. Usami was just unfortunate to not possess enough cautiousness that could avoid those three louses. There was no difference between Lumen and Ningen— bullies are universal through and through.

With Usami's vision turning hazy, she thought of simpler times and better options she could have taken (that is if she could avoid this from happening). If she had a choice, she might have chosen to safely reside on land and read her favorite web manga- Tea Time With Duke Bologna. The ghost of a blissful smile appeared on her lips. The number of times she read the seven-book series never tired her out- regardless of being capable of memorizing the best scenes like the back of her hand. The reason being, she loved Duke Bologna and the twisted secrets that lurked in his dukedom.

And oh, to be Lady Cabbage who would always be swooped in the Duke's arms whenever danger arose— what is that?

Something caught Usami's attention- a blurred figure closed on her. Without much thought, she outstretched her hand to them (was that her Duke?), but the gesture was ignored as they chose to bunch their fist in her swimsuit and tightly grasp her upper arm. Usami felt repulsed from the way she was being handled, not at all what she expecting. And nor did she expect to be thrown flagrantly over the edge of the pool like some freshly caught fish. "Blegh!" Usami retched the moment she made contact with dry land. Her body naturally purged the pool water from her system and it made her eyes water from both the strain and the emotional agitation.

When her body came to a calm, Usami flipped her hair from her face and wiped the water which stung her eyes.

"Hey there, I've got a request. Would you please go and fuck off now, you useless bitch?"

Usami tensed from the hostility and looked to see who it came from. She did not expect Adrian to be capable of such vulgar vocabulary, but now she realized he was much more vocal than she originally thought. It brought more realization to the plate as there was more to learn about Adrian and the rest of the people she dormed with. In time, she figured she would learn about their good and bad sides, though she wasn't sure if she was intrigued or worried. Usami's focus landed on the hand resting upon their assailant's shoulder. However, something did not sit right with how deadly calm Adrian was acting. He gave her the impression of some ticking time bomb.

"Adrian-kun," she croaked. Her voice sounded hoarse as her throat was left sore and dehydrated. With an ounce of confidence, she continued, "Don't bother with the mongrel. You'll get in trouble again."

Magical Enegry

Even though Hanna was blushing furiously, she was having a good time. Just a few friends having a good time. Maybe she could peruse a relationship here, maybe eventually she could tell Fredi how she felt eventually, maybe after getting closer to her roommate. She hadn't spent much time with them, but she felt the need to protect them all, even Cleo, and Elise, even though they would most likely be saving her ass.

And then Hanna's bubbly attitude was ruined when she got soaked due to a certain someone doing a cannonball into the pool. She whipped around, "Hey! what the hell are you doing!" Hanna yelled. She wouldn't have enough time to dry off, because she was tackled into a pool by yet another familiar face. Hanna didn't have time to process anything, because it a few moments, her face would smack into the pool.

Seeing as Hanna wasn't prepared for submerging, she inhaled water, which already wasn't a good start. She was angry, and panicking at the same time. She was so angry, that the pool itself started to get hot. Hanna would have probably kicked the bucket if her roommate hadn't hauled her to the surface. Hanna coughed up the water she inhaled earlier(luckly, not on Fredi's face), and then took a look around her. It seemed like Usami had been yoinked under, and Adrian saved her. Ravyn was screeching at Brutus, and Adrian looked like he was about to kill someone.

Hanna took another look around, and realized how bad it would be if they broke out into a fight, it would be like the lunch situation all over again. "Hey, Adrian, Ravyn. Chill out, they aren't worth the consequences." She said loudly enough for both of them to hear. She wanted them to actually look around at the turning heads, the concerned looks, the phones. If they got into a fight, Richard would put on another act, and their image would be worse than it already is.

Hanna sank into Fredi, even though the situation that brought her to be this close to her wasn't the best, Hanna was permanently burning this moment into her head for life.

Brutus released a boisterous laugh, undeterred by Ravyn's anger.

"Aw, did I mess up your pretty hair?" Brutus snorted. "Maybe try again when you don't look like a wet dog. And learn to have some fun, bitch."

Brutus's arm swelled up with his ability before he delivered a large splash of water towards Ravyn's face. Kiyoshi was sure to get caught in the splash as collateral damage if neither of them reacted.

Nearby, Regina rolled her eyes at Adrian's insult.

"Oh please, it was an accident. Accident," she said, drawing each syllable out slowly as though she was talking to a child. "Aw, or are you maybe mad that your girlfriend looks like a drowned chicken now? Should she even be in here with those chicken legs?"

Besides Elise, Richard gave a good-natured smile.

"My, Elise, what vicious words! But instead of wasting your time thinking about those silly questions, it would really do you some more good to polish up your combat skills. It would be a shame if you can't even do your job and use your shields to protect your precious teammates," Richard said warmly. He snapped his fingers as though remembering something before leaning towards the girl, brows furrowed with concern. "That reminds me, I heard that Jun got an awful injury! How is he? Haven't kicked the bucket yet, I hope? It would be too sad if you lost another one of your friends, wouldn't it?"

His gaze flickered up to the flower hairpin in Elise's hair, a smile playing at his lips.

Cleo Donovan
Location: gymnasium/swimming pool

A day to chill in the academy’s gymnasium was a pretty good idea, Cleo had thought when she first learned that Vince would be bringing them there today. A nice break from the assessment and all the commotions and stress the Otherworlders experienced ever since they came into this world. She watched the third-generationers flocked into the swimming pool, and as Elise went to relax in the pool chair. Vince himself, upon finishing his introduction, went to sit by a plastic chair at the corner of the swimming pool. As the professor, he has the duty to supervise his students, and sitting in that position gave him a decent view of the whole pool as well. Though, just as how any teacher would be doing instead--and this is no different whether it’s in Lumen or from their original world---rather than focusing on the students, the professor could be seen leaning against the back of the chair, his legs crossed, eyes fixed on his phone, texting away.

Cleo’s eyes glanced over to the Otherworlders having their way of having fun inside the gymnasium before walking over to Vince just as she saw him taking pictures of the pool with his phone and returned to texting again. She stopped next to him and peeked over.

“Watchu doing?” She asked.

Telling my beloved not to worry about our children~” The white-haired professor grinned sheepishly as he sent the pictures over to Eiichi, where the Otherworlders could be seen in them having their peaceful time.

Cleo leaned down closer until her head was almost resting on Vince’s shoulder and stared into the phone, her usual mischievous grin on her face. “Let’s take a selfie and send it to him too.”

Katcha!

“From your wife and your favorite troublemaker ✿˶˘-³˘)~♡”

Just as the picture was taken and the captioned selfie was sent, the idle atmosphere of the swimming pool changed as more students began to crowd into the gymnasium. However, what caught Cleo’s attention the most would be the sight of the couple students she remembered seeing back when the “drama” of the new third-generation otherworlders were shared onto the internet. Those same snotty voices and the typical asshole demeanors that were displayed from the trio made the girl raise an eyebrow immediately. Vince let out a low whistle as he noticed them too. “Hopefully it won’t go out of hand?” He said nonchalantly.

Scums are scums,” a long sigh left Cleo’s lips. She remembered the anger she felt when she first saw the news, yet now that the “bullying” was unfolding in front of her she almost felt amused by the childishness and immaturity that the trio had displayed. Elise, the good, old fairy godmother, upon taking her job seriously interfered soon enough when the mini commotion between the third generations and the trio broke out. Cleo could hear Ravyn's vile words all the way over there, she was almost impressed by how much she could curse.

Patting Vince on the shoulder, Cleo left his side to approach Richard Dickson just as his mockeries against Elise’s attempt to roast him entered her ear.

"That reminds me, I heard that Jun got an awful injury! How is he? Haven't kicked the bucket yet, I hope? It would be too sad if you lost another one of your friends, wouldn't it---”

The lack of shame! Though it was a pity that Jun couldn’t make it here today.

Without lifting up a finger, a mini, small white orb formed just slightly below the blond male’s crotch. Before he could notice, it exploded then and there, right at the same time as Cleo came over and put one arm dotingly around Richard’s shoulder.

I was just telling Vince the janitors need to do a better job cleaning the pool, there were flies flying around,” she said with an exaggerated sigh. “One was just about to land on you, good thing I killed it in time and burnt it to crisp--isn’t that right? But…” In a dramatic gesture, she looked down to his pants where a thin trail of smoke could still be seen going up the air and the smells of burnt clothes were beginning to spread among them. There, a big hole with black edges was visible between his legs.

Oh no!” Cleo said quite loudly. “There’s a hole there now! Sorry buddy--better go home and sew it up!” Squeezing Richard’s shoulder, she threw a sincere apologetic look at him. “Looks like I still have much to train with my powers. But don’t worry, there isn’t much to be seen there in the first place anyway. Let’s all forgive and forget, right?”

After she said that, she winked at Elise then flashed her a successful grin.

The continued swirl of banter and insults being hurled around Frederika greatly discomfited her, not the least because of exactly the same fears that Hanna had. Worse, she knew she herself lacked any manner of proper way to defend herself against such hurled insults; this was not the way of the perfomance-minded life she had previously lived, and now she found herself in a oddly vulnerable state despite her usual penchant for fortitude. All she needed was for some manner of word she spoke to be twisted into another online posting and all of them would suffer. Just as previous... I will not allow that to happen again, no manger what slings and barbs of hatred are thrown at me.

So instead she concentrated on the one thing she felt confident in her performance in, and that was tending to her still recovering roommate. "Here, let us go to rest for a little bit. I believe the water is getting entirely too warm for now."
Strange, though yes it had been warm previously, it definitely hadn't been this level of near-jaccuzi warm. Her eyes glanced down at the smaller Hanna still clinging close to her, and there was no denying the radiant heat that was coming off of the girl's body. Hm... The muscular girl continued to support Hanna with one arm as she herself clambered out of the pool with the other, raising the dark-haired girl out subsequently in a single lift once she was on dry land. "Are you all right?" she asked, a mote of concern in her voice, "you're considerably elevated in temperature."

"Oh now she's done it," Usami thought. She squinted her eyes, knowing fully well that Regina's actions were far from accidental. There was no way Adrian was going to back away- let alone listen to her- after what Regina said. She looked for the others, hoping for anyone to get them out of this. Yet, Usami found that option was unavailable as the others had their own problems to address. Seeing as it was up to her and Adrian to deal with this... pest (for a lack of better words), she wiped a hand down her face- jaded and still dripping wet.

The lanky girl pushed herself onto her knees while keeping a weathered eye on the two in the water as if afraid they'll snap into a brawl the instant she looked away. Her body shivered, adjusting to the cold air. Usami wrapped her arms around herself in an attempt to stay warm. She was at a loss. What could she possibly do here that would be helpful? Usami had to weigh her options. If anything, she wished she could get mad. Usami wished to lash out and retaliate, and yet, she sat there without a twitch in her brow or a downward curl on her lips. It must have been because she was used to the insults- just enough to get her by. There was the addition of spending her life behind a counter selling to foreigners with brash behaviors.

She supposed she could get away and wait for things to mellow out. However, Usami had to discard that option; the thought of allowing Adrian to deal with Regina on his own made her insides churn uncomfortably. So far, being around the male seemed to always bring trouble. "He's bad luck to be around," she figured, placing an imaginary hand to cup her chin. "I should work on distancing myself from him from now on..."

Usami inwardly shook her head and sighed. Of course, there was also that option... A flat line formed on her lips. It wasn't her favorite, but she physically couldn't take on the hyena, especially when she's in the water. Frustration turned into a dragged out whine of protest, but Usami gulped it down and gathered whatever dignity she had left.

She bent forward in her kneeled position. "I'm sorry for the inconvenience," Usami began, heat traveled up her cheeks. The tone of her voice sounded different this time- as if she flipped a switch in her voice box. "Please forgive our actions. It was my lack of judgment." Although Usami's English wasn't perfect like Kiyoshi and Frederika's, she still managed to memorize certain English phrases and say them clearly- the complete opposite of her usual bland tone. As she spoke, the ends of her sentences would trail off into this sickly sweet sound- it sounded artificial but it worked enough on irate customers.

Usami knew she should've stopped there, but instead, the bowed figure licked her lips and continued. "I'll compensate your owner for the trouble... I didn't know dogs were allowed in the pool."

Elise Friedhelm.

Having long prepared herself for such insults from the blond, the only reaction that Richard’s reference to Elise’s mediocrity drew out was the slightest twitch of her brow. His following words, however, rattled in her ears like the mocking laugh of a crow.

That dirty mouth. Those repulsive eyes of his…

How dare they sully the names and memories of her friends?

Each shaky breath was pulled laboriously through her painfully tense throat as Elise attempted to bring her anger under control. The sting of her nails sharply digging into the palms of her hands barely managed to hold her back from blindly lashing out. As infuriating as the boy was, a single misstep would only bring more trouble to the professors overseeing them. However, the feral look in her eyes betrayed her desire to spark a sequel to the events in the cafeteria.

They...died for people like this?

“You-”

A small bang interrupted Elise before she could follow that dangerous train of thought.

The stench of burnt fibers mixing with the chlorinated smell hanging in the air reached her nose before the rest of her brain caught up with the sudden events. Her eyes naturally followed the origin of the noise before swiftly averting themselves both out of embarrassment and disgust. How vulgar, though there was only one person in the room capable of pulling such pranks without an ounce of hesitation (she trusted that a professor wouldn’t do so regardless of how saucy he seemed).

When Cleo casually slung her arm around Richard’s shoulders and sent a wink her way, Elise didn’t know whether to laugh, cry, or return her friend’s triumphant grin. Nevertheless, her bitter and ugly feelings gradually bled away into a complete stillness.

“I must thank you profusely for your concern and advice,” Elise finally said, her tone as courteous as possible while she idly threaded her fingers together before her chest, “but I agree: you ought to run to your nanny and get that stitched up. We wouldn’t want anything distasteful being spread on social media and affecting our academy’s reputation.”

Magical Energy

"Adrian-kun," Usami's low, strained voice piped up from behind. She followed up with an unfamiliar string of what Adrian assumed was Japanese before reverting back to English. "You'll get in trouble again."

He knew that. He knew that. Of course he did. But did knowing change anything? Adrian's grip tightened marginally as he set his jaw into a rigid scowl. What was he supposed to do at this point, back down? As smart as that may have been, Adrian was the one who'd risen to the girl's obvious provocation. The thought of being forced into a humiliating withdrawal rankled. He hesitated, torn between the two imperfect choices.

"Oh please, it was an accident. Accident." The infuriating voice that spoke up was quick to assist in his decision, however. "Aw, or are you maybe mad that your girlfriend looks like a drowned chicken now? Should she even be in here with those chicken legs?"

Putting aside the rather apt likening of Usami to a chicken, every word Adrian heard sawed at the tenuous bonds of his patience. Originally only marginally stronger than the most fragile of threads, it wore away to little more than spider silk. Unfortunately, it wouldn't have mattered either way. The older student and her friends had clearly made the Otherworlders their targets and no amount of patience was going to sustain him throughout however many more aggressions they faced. Perhaps it would be best to just deal with this here and now.

Idly keeping himself afloat, Adrian glared darkly down at his anathema as he sized her up. From what he remembered, she had some variation of telekinesis or something similar. In a pool, that wouldn't be the most useful of skills and if it came to fight, he could likely take her. He could probably force her underwater if he got the drop on her. After that, it would be a simple matter to keep her under for as long as he wanted. Not that it be for very long, of course. Impressing a lesson upon her would be enough. As for the repercussions, there wouldn't be any tangible evidence to be used against him. Adrian's scowl softened until it resembled the same polite smile he wore before. This would do quite nicely.

"I'm sorry for the inconvenience." Adrian spun around in the water to face the speaker, quickly readying an indignant complaint. Upon witnessing the sight of Usami bowing, however, any possible retorts died in his mouth, leaving behind only the distasteful flavor of rot and ruin. "Please forgive our actions. It was my lack of judgment," she continued in that same sickly-sweet tone, a hot blush spreading across her features. Though Adrian hadn't exactly had expectations of any kind for her, seeing this sort of behavior before the face of unrepentant antagonism was surprising, to say the least. Then again, three days was just that. In no capacity could any of them be considered well-versed in the personalities of their fellows. And then the dark-haired girl, still bowed over apologetically, continued on. "I'll compensate your owner for the trouble... I didn't know dogs were allowed in the pool."

Hm, well, that was just as unexpected. Adrian stared at Usami for a brief moment in wide-eyed astonishment, completely forgetting all thoughts of action. Ever so slowly, he snickered, quietly at first and then building in intensity and volume until he broke down into fits of throaty, almost therapeutic laughter, struck by the absurdity of the situation. What was he even doing? Since when did he genuinely consider half-drowning someone for something like this? Ever since arriving in Lumen, he'd been exhibiting more and more uncharacteristic behavior. Well, nothing that a good cup of coffee couldn't solve.

All semblance of anger having melted away and his laughter subsiding into quiet chuckles, Adrian released his hold on the older girl and swam to the edge of the pool, reaching up and pulling himself onto dry land. He yawned widely and rose to his feet, sweeping aside a lock of dripping hair. "I think I'm done for now," he announced idly to Usami, making his way over to a nearby beach chair where, despite the chilly air, he began to doze off again.
