The Battle Slain Wolf
Beep.....Beep..... Beep...
The first thing you are aware of is that sound, a regular electronic beeping in a hushed silence. Actually there's more than one now you're focusing on it, and they lead you from the misty half-lands on the edge of sleep. You open your eyes to darkness, but as they focus you're able to make out the ceiling, dimly lit above you.
You sit up to get your bearings, feel an ache from your long stillness and see you're not alone. There are other dim human shapes in the room around you, maybe a dozen and others sit up even as you watch. You find yourself in an odd dreamy lassitude, and it takes some time before it occurs to you to speak. Just when the words are on the tip of your tongue, a large wall-screen flickers to life and a count-down began.
The screen clears, and a female voice that could have been drawn straight from central casting as 'motherly' cuts in.
"Welcome to Eden."
""Here at Eden we do tour utmost to keep our people happy and save them from the wasteland of shadows that lies outside. The world today is a barren place which holds only pain, death and darkness."
"Your happiness and security are important to us, so we have highly trained guards patrolling all around the perimeter - not to intrude on your serenity, but to preserve your peace of mind."

"Welcome to Eden, your garden retreat from a world of ruin."
