The door banged against the house, causing Titus to glance in that direction. Cade stepped out onto the balcony and Titus returned his silent greeting before chuckling softly at Raelynn's reaction. He hadn't realized how zoned out she was when he first approached. "Sorry," he spoke out of etiquette. It was the polite and expected response, which his parents instilled in him at a young age. Briefly, he looked into her soft brown eyes before resting his eyes on the house behind her. The window reflected the water behind him, showing him the vacant land beyond the balcony. It was peaceful, for the time being. Soon everyone would be out and about disturbing the land, as well as the people.

When she spoke again he rested his eyes on her. Raelynn's reaction was expected and he knew he'd be caught sooner or later. Darkness can overwhelm and he never wished that on anyone. A small smile tugged at his lips. "You leave an open invitation," he said crossing his arms. He'd often welcome himself to modify her emotions, it was as if he couldn't help himself. The connection they shared mystified him, but he felt she didn't deserved to be weighed down. Titus was familiar with darkness, not the kind she had swirling inside, but a variation. It was his self-assigned task to help her. He was given this ability and he need not be selfish with it. He had the power to help her, why keep it for himself? "I'll try to remember for next time," he added, which was what he always said, but nothing ever changed.

Marc grabbed the kettle from the stove and moved to the sink to fill it with water. He sat it on the stove and turned on the burner, letting the tea pot heat to a boil. While waiting on the water, Marc turned towards the cabinet behind him. Inside was an array of tins filled with different flavors and types of tea. The dog familiar's eyes glanced over the different labels on the tins, trying to decide which one fit the kind of morning he was having. Marc grabbed the tin of Earl Gray and pulled out a few tea bags. As if perfectly planned, the tea pot began to whistle as soon as Marc closed the cabinet. With fluid movement, Marc removed the kettle from the flame, turned off the burner, and placed the tea bags in the pot.

Making tea was a daily morning practice for Marc. It was something that woke him up, gave him a bit of energy, as well as calmed his mood. Morning tea was a routine he had picked up as a child from his mother, who had a glass of hot tea every morning and every evening. She claimed it was the reason she was completely healthy, definitely not due to fact the she was a magical being. Grinning slightly at the memory, Marc grabbed a navy blue and white striped mug from the cabinet before filling it most of the way with the Earl Grey tea. He added a sugar cube and a dash of milk, stirring it around to homogenize. Marc lifted the mug to his mouth and took a sip, savoring the earthy flavor of the tea. He leaned against the counter behind him to stay out of the others' way, holding the mug in both hands. Quickly glancing out the back door to make sure Raelynn was okay, Marc returned his silent attention to the room.

Raelynn glanced up sharply as she heard the back door open once again. She was still a bit on edge, even thought Titus's manipulation had calmed her down a bit. Seeing it was only Cade, Rae offered him a nod and a quiet "Good morning" in greeting. She didn't know much about the tattooed familiar other than he had some sort of relationship with Sadie. Nevertheless, Raelynn knew that he most likely meant no harm and relaxed ever so slightly. A lot of the residents of the Poppy House had darker pasts, like Raelynn. However, she didn't want anyone to ask about her own and therefore thought it not her place to ask about anyone else's. Some things are better off as a mystery anyway. The brunette witch knew that if anyone knew about her past, the way she lost her humanity for a period of time and killed a few people in cold blood, they would probably think less of her. She had only just learned she was a witch during that time, and had no idea how to control it. But that was absolutely no excuse. Innocents died at her claws, and Rae would never forgive herself for that.

Raelynn returned her attention to the handsome warlock in front of her, eyeing him with a bit of curiosity. He was always polite, always kind. Rae had yet to see him ever lose his temper, no matter what the situation. She briefly wondered what it would be like to have that kind of emotional control, and envied Titus for it. Realizing Titus could still pick up on her own emotions, she pushed those thoughts away and tried her best to be apathetic. Nevertheless, she couldn't help the slight smile that played on the corner of her lips in response to Titus's. "Is it really leaving myself open if you're the one with the magical abilities to sense my emotions when others can't?" she asked, a bit of playful sarcasm in her tone. In all seriousness, Raelynn rather enjoyed that her and Titus had whatever kind of connection that was. If gave her a sense of relief that even if she couldn't control her own emotions, someone else could. At the mention of trying to remember that for next time, Rae couldn't help but roll her eyes at him. "I'm sure you will. Just like you remembered last time, and the time before that," she teased, feeling a little bit lighter than she had before. "So, do you have any big plans for the day?"

Titus listened to her and he knew her points were valid, but was compelled by his own sense of righteousness. "All the more reason to use it," he said softly as he looked into her brown eyes. He never had a problem with her, he actually enjoyed her company, which took him off guard. He wasn't fond of many people, but the like he felt for her stunned him. "It's not my fault that you and I are," he briefly paused as he looked away from her. "Connected. It simply wouldn't be fair to ignore it." He ran his fingers through his curly hair.

The corners of his mouth subtle pulled up into a small smile. "Momentary lapse in memory. A common trait in my family," he said with a soft chuckle. He was adopted as an infant and had no idea who his real parents were; any "family traits" were simply made up, a fallacy he concocted to keep people from asking questions. He wasn't a fan of going into detail about his life and he learned that the less people knew the better. Each time he confided in someone, they left him. Not many could handle his past. It wasn't gruesome, but he had his own demons that haunted him through the night.

"Aside from the usual, no." He looked down at her. "A stroll in the woods, talking with the animals. They are the best company," he spoke quietly. "Hopefully eat." His gaze rested on the door. Crowds weren't his thing, but he did enjoy food. "What do you have planned?" Titus returned gaze to Raelynn, her soft features were easy on the eyes and he liked her smile; it was like a flower among thorns. Subtle and rare, but that's what made him desire to see it. Her unhappiness unsettled him.

A loud groan sounded inside the mass of hair, before Saffron popped her head up from the mass. White locks clung to her lips and eyelashes, and she raised her free hand to bat the hair away. A groan sounded, before she darted her gaze up towards Devin. He was crouching down next to her, but it was definitely a pathetic display to anyone watching. A girl, stuck inside her own damn hair. Raising one hand up to call for silence, Saffron simply pushed herself up to her feet slowly.

"Again, no need to call me Princess. It's Saffron, I was given a name for a reason," she began as she slowly stepped out from her hair, before hooking her arm around the long length of it. She gave it a firm tug, before looping it once again. It looked as if she was winding up a spool of yawn, though this was imaginably a bit harder and a bit heavier. Keeping her gaze on him as she continued to wind up the locks of hair, Saffron just frowned towards him. "You know, if you haven't surprised me or made that lame joke, I wouldn't even be in this mess. Not that my hair is a mess, it's not. Just this situation," she rambled a bit, before glancing down at her hair. A yelp instantly sounded as she noticed the black strands, which had grown more visibly in the few seconds they spoke with each other. Her eyes widened to an unreasonable size, before she promptly sped up her process.

"A-Actually, you know what. I'm going to my room, alright? Could you get Roland for me? You know, the guy here. Yes, could you please send him to my room? Tell him not to just enter though," she said in a panic, before heaving up all her hair into two arms. "Bye now! Don't forget to tell Roland!" She exclaimed, before running off back down the hall. A few moments later, and there was a loud slam of a door. What an odd lady, and even odder encounter.

Inside her room, Saffron was quick to lock the door. Then she locked it again, and a third time. A groan sounded, before she looked down at her hair. More strands were starting to streak the inky jet black, but it wasn't fully taking over. She just needed to calm down, right? If she couldn't, Roland would simply force her to do so with his powers. Before anything bad happened again.

"Alright," Devin said, hands up in surrender. "I'll make better jokes next time." He watched her turn tail and flee, and felt a little bad that such a stupid interaction could have apparently changed her whole morning.

And his, for that matter, he thought as he went down into the dinning room to find Roland. He was still dripping slightly.

Devin found Roland in the dining room with most of the rest of the house. He hadn't spoken to the familiar much, but he knew him by sight--he made sure he knew everyone in the house.

"Morning," he said in greeting to the room at large. He made his way over to the food and helped himself to an orange juice. "I have a message for you, Roland," he added, eyeing the much taller familiar. "Saffron asked for you, up in her room. Said to not just barge in." He reached out, intending to appearify the champagne bottle from his room, only remembering once the spell failed to work that he couldn't do that at the moment, and he sighed. Work? For a mimosa? Horrific.

There was something staring at him and Roland could tell. It was something he had developed over the years. And even more sharpened when he had come to the Poppy House. It was odd - this was supposed to be a safe space for their kind. However, it may be because he was surrounded with strangers who has powers that could kick him to the curb or kick him to the afterlife at any point in time. Or maybe it's because another certain familiar that is innately a predator has made it one of his hobbies to scare Roland.

Apep certainly must be staring at him right now like a predator to prey. Great.

Roland continued to feed himself and he was already done with his sandwich and halfway through his coffee when Devin had come down and called the attention of the room with a greeting. He gave the guy a nod of acknowledgement. He had not expected Devin to come to him. So when the wizard had trudged over to him, he was pretty much surprised. But it made sense once he spoke. Saffron was calling for him huh? "Thanks for the message then Devin." Roland had cocked his head to the side when Devin had extended his hand but figured that it was not for him to know what he was trying to do. "Anyhow, goodbye."

He chugged down the rest of his coffee. It wasn't too hot anymore so he was pretty much unbothered by it. Roland headed over to get more food - a sandwich and juice before heading up. If Devin had managed to talk to her, that meant Saffron had planned to come down. And for some reason she had not. Hm, he wondered why. Nevertheless, he reached her room and he knocked. "Hey, it's Roland. I brought breakfast if you want it." He called out from outside, raising both of his hands absentmindedly.

Raelynn tilted her head curiously at his words. They did have a connection, something quite literally magical, that Rae still wasn't entirely sure how to understand. But then again, when it came to witch experience, Raelynn didn't have as much as many of the other people in the house. A lot of what she knew she had either taught herself or learned from Marc. Since she had moved into the Poppy House, most of Raelynn's time was spent either in the library, practicing alone, or training with Marc. Though she was acquainted with many people in the house, she didn't really know any of them as well. Because of that, Raelynn felt a bit lonely around the house. As much as she felt like she didn't really deserve Titus' help or care, she was certainly appreciative of it.

Raelynn couldn't help but return Titus' smile and chuckle with a small smile of her own, wondering if his family was anything like hers. At first, her childhood was great, with two loving parents and everything she could ever have asked for. But after her mother's untimely death, her world was flipped upside-down. Her father, who had slowly descended into insanity beginning when his wife first got sick, was wrought with grief, and decided to torture his daughter in a series of experiments trying to find a "cure" for his late wife's illness. Raelynn closed her eyes, blocking out the memories of her life before the Poppy House. A familiar darkness settled around her mind, and she did her best to push it away, knowing that Titus would be able to pick up on her emotions. Thankful for the distraction of talking about his day, Raelynn met Titus' gaze again and answered, "Probably going out to the forest again to practice shifting. Maybe climb a tree and do some reading. If you're going to the woods, would you mind if I walk with you?"

He was pleasantly surprised by her request to join him. It wasn't often that many people asked to accompany him to the woods, something he did daily, if not hourly. He spent more time in the forest than anywhere else. Something about being near the lush vegetation and wildlife lifted his spirit. He could feel everything around him so clearly it was like a drug he couldn't get enough of. There was never a time where he felt satiated.

"Not at all," Titus said. "You are always welcome to join." A small smile rested on his lips. He was itching to get out there now, but his hunger kept him in place. Breakfast was the most important meal of the day, which was what his mother always said, but she skipped it anyway. His parents were the kind of people that expected him to do as they said, instead of doing what they did. He was always scolded for being a 'monkey see, monkey do' kind of kid. The thought made his stomach tighten. His mother was the only parent he truly cared about, but she never stood by his side; his father could do no wrong.

Frustration welled in him. After all these years he'd yet to move on. Everyone always talked about forgiving and forgetting, but he simply wanted to forget. He wasn't sure his parents deserved forgiveness, at least not his father. He took a breath before rubbing his temples. They didn't deserve to take his peace or occupy his emotions. His brown eyes focused on Raelynn, he probably looked like he was staring, but he wasn't. "I wonder if the breakfast rush has faded." His stomach rumbled quietly. He'd much rather starve than face the hungry wolves inside. He pushed off the railing. "Maybe I'll see what the forest has to offer." He glanced to the woods in the distance. He would certainly come across fresh fruit or influence the bushes to produce enough for him and another, if they so chose to come.

Raelynn tilted her head curiously at the apparent surprise on Titus' face, wondering what could have caused it. She realized then that though the both spent a lot of time in the forest, they hadn't ever been their together. Raelynn knew that Titus like to walk through the woods. With a magic that connected him so heavily with nature, it was no surprise he would enjoy it out there more than anywhere else. In her many times training and practicing shifting alone in the forest, she had sensed someone else meandering around. She hadn't seen them, but in some forms she could hear them or smell them. At those times, Rae had just assumed it was a citizen of the town or someone passing through. But she realized then that the person she sensed may have been Titus all along.

Raelynn was pulled from her thoughts by the sound of Titus' voice. His voice was smooth and soft like velvet, and he had a handsome smile. She immediately shoved those thoughts to the back of her mind. Raelynn truly thought of herself as a monster, an animal, a beast. There was blood on her hands that could never be washed away. She would never be worthy of anyone. The shape-shifting witch returned Titus' smile with a half-hearted one of her own. They sat in a moment of silence before Rae noticed Titus tense over so slightly and wondered what he was thinking about. By the frustrated look in his eyes and the way he rubbed his temples briefly, she could tell it wasn't something good. But Raelynn knew better than to ask him about it. At the mention of breakfast, she remembered that she too hadn't eaten just yet due to the crowd that had gathered in the kitchen. Raelynn stood and slipped the pack of cigarettes and the lighter into her pocket, walking a few steps towards the stairs that led down to the beach that separated the house and the woods. "Want to head out then?"

Hearing the knock on the door, Saffron let out a slight gasp to herself. For a moment, she forgot that she had requested Roland to come up to her. Her hand shot up to cup her own cheek, before sliding forward and through her hair to hold it up. Holding it an arms-length away, she stared at the white locks. Streaks of black were slowly snaking up the strands, giving her an almost 'salt and pepper' look for the moment. The ends were already black, and she couldn't help but groan. It had been too long since she last extended her powers, and the slight embarrassment on her part was enough to let it slip free. She needed to get it all under control, but nothing was helping in the moment. Everything she knew she needed to do was thrown out the window, and the panic was starting to set in.

Moving over to the door, Saffron nearly tripped over her own hair. She hit the door with a slight thump, before her voice arose from the inside of the room to Roland. "N-No, I don't want breakfast, sorry," she began, her voice pitched a bit higher than normal. It was a good indication that something was wrong. "U-Uh, I told someone to come over here, because it's happening again. I need help making it go away," she continued on, tapping one nail against the door. A slight groan sounded soon after, as her eyes had darted to glance at the dark hair pooling on the floor.

"I don't think you should come in, though. If you do, well--" She suddenly stopped, silence overtaking the room. Was she simply remembering the past, or was something worse happening? The several locks on the door were still in place, but a click was soon heard. A sliding noise followed, indicating the lock was being undone. She had just had for Roland to not come in, which directly contradicted the clicking of locks sounded. A creaking groan sounded again from inside, though it sounded like the door straining against something. The light that had been sneaking out from under the frame was blotted out, before a large streak of inky black hair sneaked out.

Seems he was a minute too late.

Titus watched her as she stood and stashed her items in her pocket. He'd not often enjoyed another person's company, but hers was more than just tolerable. Titus wasn't all about looks, but he found himself a bit enchanted by hers. She was stunning, but in a simple way; she didn't adorn herself with any gaudy jewelry. When she moved over to the stairs a soft smile tugged at his lips. In that moment his heart felt lighter. The thought of the woods always made him feel more relaxed. Maybe it was a drug he simply couldn't get enough of. He stepped over to her and nodded. "Yes. More than anything," he said, his gaze resting on the forest. It was home, more than the buildings he'd resided in or the beds he'd slept in.

As he approached the woods he listened to the birds cries overhead. The gentle coo could barely be heard over the loud squawking. He smiled as he took a deep breath, the air was fresh and clean. The Cherry Blossom's sweet scent reached his nose, it seemed to travel more miles because the plant wasn't in sight. Most found the fragrance overpowering - too cloying for them - but he was comforted by the smell, like someone is comforted by the sound of their parent's voice. He placed his hand on the rough bark of the oak tree beside him. "There are berries and an apple tree up ahead." He couldn't hear the footsteps, but he could feel the deer grazing in the dense forest in front of them.

He turned his attention on Raelynn, his brown eyes focusing on her face. "How did you master the art of shape-shifting?" He asked. He'd only been able to shift parts of his body, but never complete a full change. Even as a teen he struggled to access that part of his ability and he thought the more he practiced would allow him to make that transformation. It irritated him that he felt powerless with his own powers. Titus had only met one person with an ability like his, but she manipulated water; she was the one who encouraged him to practice shape-shifting. Without her, he wouldn't have known it was possible.
