Kane was satisfied when Lucy agreed to stay away and when she indicated where she was going to hide out, he nodded his head. "Be patient," he told her, not wanting her to worry too much and step back out into view. He then walked towards the Ferris Wheel but stopped a distance away, observing his surroundings. Most people seemed to have left the area, either fleeing the pier altogether or wanting to stare at whatever that explosion was. He hadn't realised there had also been a shooting nearby, but that wasn't his priority right now. Despite people being distracted, he still pulled his scarf up over his face, leaving only his eyes uncovered so he could see what he was doing.

After going around a few times, the Ferris Wheel came back to the beginning once again and Vinnie's goon signalled for the ride operator to stop the wheel. Having already paid the worker for his cooperation, he didn't need to thank him again. "We're going to get off this ride now and go for a boat ride," he said, pointing further down the pier, beyond the funhouse. The pier was much quieter than usual, with the visitors occupied by the other commotion. "We're going to walk natural and not draw any attention to us. You're smart enough to know if you put one footstep out of place your girlfriend dies. If anything happens to me, she also dies."

"I get it, just shut the fuck up will you?" James replied, his voice filled with irritation. He got off the ride and waited for the Italian so they could walk side by side. "You really should just avoid wasting time and take me straight to Vinnie," James suggested as the pair walked past the front of the funhouse. They veered off towards the steps which would lead to the jetty where the boat was docked. The Italian's attention was suddenly drawn to the car parked nearby, which was supposed to be gone by now, with Lucy inside. Just as he reached for his gun, the sound of a close gunshot was heard, causing James to stumble away to one side. He was surprised to realise the Italian had been shot in the back of the head. James looked over his shoulder to see the large figure of Kane approaching and he dodged out of the man's path. He watched on as Kane grabbed the Italian and hauled his limp body over the side of the pier into the lake.

"Who the Hell are you?!" James asked, his tone a mix of relief and suspicion.

"The man who just saved your ass. Follow me...." Kane simply said. As he walked towards the back of the funhouse, he pulled the scarf down from over his face. Without a word, he opened the door and signalled to Lucy that it was safe to come out. She would see James cautiously following behind Kane...

Luca could be seen laying down on the couch of the living room, looking up at the ceiling with a slight frown. A week ago he had a chance to bring in more guns to the Sullivan's, but at the end of the day, the gang had worked with had bailed out and left him alone there, which had frustrated to no end. Now that he though about it, it had been a while since he last rested on a couch like this, mostly because he had gathered some Sullivan's and hunted down the other gang. Each and every one of them where swimming with the fishes now, especially the leader, someone that should had never crossed him. "Kate, are you here?" He called out as he closed his eyes before standing up to head over to the fridge and taking out one of the alcoholic beverage he had placed inside before pouring some of it in a cup, drinking it fast and repeating the same process three more times.

Kane had told her to be patient, and she had planned on being. But as she sat in the eery darkness and silence of the small storage space in the fun house. She really began to get anxious. Chewing on her lip, she closed her eyes and tried to think about being somewhere else. The pier had been oddly silent, and it was probably thanks to the explosion that took place only a few moments before. She could hear the sound of birds in the distance, probably trying to pick up scraps of food left by the fair goers. It reminded her of the ocean, one place that she would love to go and wished she was there now. James had mentioned about taking a vacation to the beach and suddenly her imagination brought her back to reality. She opened her eyes to see nothing but darkness.

She stayed huddled with her knees pressed to her chest when she heard the gunshot. She let out a light squeak and squeezed her eyes shut, wondering who was killed. Kane had said he would get James to safety, but what if that bullet was meant for him...what if-? Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of muffled male voices. The metal walls of the fun house making it hard to hear. She stayed silent as they got closer and closer, but as the door opened she gasped, not sure of who was on the other side.

Relief spread on her face as she was greeted by Kane's face, informing her that it was safe to come out of hiding. Her eyes looked to him for a moment before she saw James, who looked weary following behind him. A large smile formed on her face and she moved from the back of the fun house before running and basically jumping into James' arms. She didn't say a word as she squeezed him with all of her strength. No words could describe the fear she felt for both of their lives. No words could express the relief she felt in that moment.

Athena Archer

Athena looked down at the concrete ground, her mind racing. Moving her eyes upwards, she found Leo and his wounded father to be conversing. A small shimmer of hope lit in her. Maybe his father was going to be fin after all. In another second, Athena heard sirens. It sounded like the police/ambulance weren't very far away. There was just a little glimmer of hope that things would turn around inside here. However, it was when Leo stood back away from her father that she realized that it was far from it. Her eyes met with the limp body of Leo's father. All the color drained from her face.
Athena couldn't bear to keep looking so she turned her head, making brief eye contact with Leo before he ventured off somewhere.
Athena started to pace, agitated as ever. The young woman had experienced loss before but never right in front of her eyes.

She turned to Leo when he came back towards her, apologizing for his father ruining their date. She started to speak but before she could respond, he proceeded to point to the area where his car was parked.
Going on to say that she couldn't stay at the current location they were in, adding that they had to go. Leo also said something about going to the casino to tell Vinnie his job went wrong. Her big brown eyes looked up into his blue ones.

"I..can go with you if you don't mind." Athena murmured softly to him.

James looked to see Kane pull open the door to reveal Lucy had been hiding out there. He saw a smile grow on the blonde's face before she jumped into his arms. She almost took his breath away as she squeezed him, but he didn't mind in the slightest. He was just happy to see her alive and well, especially considering he hadn't yet figured out how he was going to appease Vinnie.

"Am I glad to see you," he remarked. He held her tightly in his arms and softly kissed the top of her head, taking in the warmth of her body. He'd been so worried about her and not wanting to risk her life was all that had kept him from killing that guy on the Ferris Wheel. "I love you... Please tell me they didn't hurt you?" he softly asked, fighting back any tears. He then glanced to Kane who was casually standing nearby, reloading his gun and keeping an eye out. Kane was becoming aware of the approaching sirens, but would give the couple another minute before interrupting." Who's that big guy?" he quietly asked Lucy. It felt like he could be trusted, but James was a cautious person, so trust didn't come by easily.

When Conor pulled her into him, she wasted no time in wrapping her legs around his waist and her arms around his neck. She loved being in the water and if it wasnt freezing she would happily stay here for hours but because it was cold it was just becoming uncomfortable. Suddenly Alex felt Conor move and the next think she knew she was submerged underwater. When she resurfaced, she tried to look annoyed as she shook her head but she ended up laughing and playfully splashing him.
"Well we don't want them parts to fall off" she winked before turning to face the beach again "C'mon its soo cold". Alex began walking back to land. She realized that they hadnt thought this through as she looked at her dry clothes on the beach and then her wet shaking body. When Conor came to a stop beside them, Alex turned and wrapped her arms around his waist and rested her head on his chest. "Do you have a towel" she asked

Kate emerged out of the spare room, dressed up and apparently ready to go out. She'd heard Luca call out to her so walked a little faster than normal. "Hey. You good?" she asked him, glancing to the alcohol he was drinking. "How about we go out and have some drinks? It's been ages since I just sat in a pub and got drunk," she observed. "Perhaps we could see if any of the Sullivans are out too. When did you last have a drink with Conor or James?" she curiously asked.

Conor couldn't help but let his smile linger at Alex. The last few weeks had been miserable and excuses to laugh had been few are far between. With his cousins around the house, he had been planning on arranging some sort of a party, but there was always someone already up to something. Even Sinead was proving hard to get hold of now and for most of their lives she had always been the person he went to in order to be cheered up. He supposed it didn't help that he'd been so off with her following what Vinnie did to him.

When they got out of the water, Conor held Alex close to share each others' body heat, or what was left of it. "Get your clothes, I think I have something in the car," he told her. He picked up his clothes and shoes before carefully tiptoeing back to his car. Conor opened up the trunk and took out a blanket that had been concealing the bag of money Kane had given him for the drugs. "Here you go," he said, handing her the blanket. Despite having not dried off yet, Conor put his shirt on and got into the car with his wet trousers still on. He turned the engine on in hopes of the car warming itself and them up. "What next?" he curiously asked. "I'm afraid my apartment is out of the question tonight."

In Aidan's honest opinion, he wasn't looking to settle down anytime soon. His parents may have married fairly young, in their early twenties but the boy wasn't sure if that would be the same for him.

He nodded along to Finn's answer. "Agreed." Aidan said, commenting on the last bit of Finn's answer to his question. His attention was direction he heard the sound of police sirens. He glanced at a nearby window, seeing a bunch of police cars and an ambulance. Raising an eyebrow, he pondered on what possibly could be happening.

He turned to Finn upon seeing him walk back into the pub.
"You sure got that right." Aidan answered, agreeing with the state of the city as it is.

All of a sudden, he heard a commotion started nearby in the pub. He glanced towards the direction it was coming from. There were men seeming to have an argument. Soon enough there was a punch thrown and things started to escalate.

Alex enjoyed the heat raidiating of conor as he held her close to him it was like her own personal raidator. When he let go off her, Alex couldnt help the small frown that took over her features for a few second. When he handed her a blanket she smiled gratefully at him. "Thank you".
Alex wrapped the blanket around her self and slid of her bra and pants while she was conceled between the blanket and the car. She pulled back on her dry clothes which felt weird against her wet skin but she ignored it knowing that she would dry off in the car. Alex's eyes suddenly darted towards the road as an Ambulance seemed to rush up the road towards the pier. She watched the road for a few seconds until another unrecognisable car came speeding the opposite way of the Ambulance. Obviously the attacker or killed. Alex suddenly got very unsure and nervous as she looked around the beach. She couldnt shake the feeling of uneasiness but when she looked.around the beach it was empty. Alex took one last look around before hoping into the car with Conor. "Well we can see what went on in the pier? Go to the hotel? Go to someplace in town and walk or drink? Or I have an apartment just outside of town we can go to?" She suggested as she looked towards Conor

Lucy was in James' arms and she couldn't help the tears that came to her eyes. She had thought that she would never see him again. She continued to hold him tightly. "I love you too...and no..I'm not hurt, just..scared." She said into his chest and continued to hold him. Letting the warmth of him calm her own bundling nerves. James asked who the big guy was and that made Lucy chuckle slightly. Pulling back, she wiped at the tears that had fallen down her cheeks and looked to Kane.

"A friend of Conor's apparently...he was told to protect us both." She murmured and a small smile came to her face. "Conor had told him that you were as good as family, and here you are." Lucy told herself that she would thank her brother for this, even if that meant continuing to let him be with that little brat. The thought of her brought a bad taste in her mouth and she shook her head slowly before sighing. Looking towards the sirens, she knew they needed to go. "We should get out of here." She said softly, "And I need you to tell me everything."

Finn had just came back over to the bar when the fight broke out. His eyes went wide at the sudden outburst and he quickly looked around for Harry. Not seeing the man anywhere, Finn knew he needed to think quickly. "Stay here." He told both Aidan and Maggie before hopping over the bar. "Shit." he mumbled under his breath and moved towards the men trying to be the calming force between them. "WOAH WOAH WOAH!" He said in a booming voice, only catching the attention of the stumbling and bumbling drunks briefly. They looked at him in confusion, as if they were trying to figure out if he was Conor or not. It would have been hilarious if they hadn't started a fight. "What's the probl-?" One of the men threw a wild arm at Finn and he ducked back. Finn knew this was a dangerous situation and fighting would be his last solution.

"Hey now! I just want to kn-!" He couldn't even get his sentence out before the same man threw a punch his way and caught him in the face. Finn's head snapped to the side and he let out a groan. The man's bony fists were definitely painful. From the corner of his eyes, he saw the man getting ready to throw another punch when Finn's hand reached out and grabbed the drunk's fist mid punch. "Not a good idea, mate I allow one free punch but the next one will have consequences." His normal happy personality had turned into something darker as he held the man's fist, beginning to crush it in his own grasp. It was in fights like this that Finn seemed to lose sight of himself and turned into something he didn't enjoy.

The fight amongst the other's continued as Finn squared with one of the drunks, watching him cry out in pain slowly falling to his knees before Finn released him all together an moved towards the other men.

When Athena said she wanted to go with him to the casino, Leo looked to her and nodded. He would then walk fast back to his car, though even in his current state of shock he was mindful not to leave the young woman behind. Once they reached the car, Leo tossed the bag onto the back seat and waited for Athena to buckle up in the passenger seat before he drove straight to Aces Casino. Having heard Vinnie talking about the casino whilst working at the hotel the previous day, Leo knew that's where he would find the man tonight.

Leo parked up in the casino car park and grabbed the bag of cash, plus the gun Sandro had told him to conceal. Inside the casino, Leo only had to ask a couple of men to find that Vinnie was in his new office. Knowing how close Leo and Athena were to Vinnie, the men happily granted them access to the private area of the casino. He walked with Athena to the room in question, giving her a glance that suggested things might not go down too well in the next minute or so.

Vinnie had already paid Mr Dawson, as promised, and the contracts had been signed. Vinnie was discussing the managerial side of the business with Nicolo when the door suddenly swung open and Leo marched in. "Leo and Athena!" Vinnie greeted them, a welcoming smile on his face, though he was surprised to see them in his office.

Nicolo would notice Leo's expression was cold and his infectious smile would be nowhere to be seen. "This is yours," Leo said, furiously tipping the cash and gun out of the bag and all over Vinnie's desk. Leo had no intention of stealing it and keeping it for himself like his father had told him to. He considered it to be dirty money. "You'll have to find someone else to get your weapons, because the job went wrong."

"Now, you might want to fix your attitude..." Vinnie began. He didn't like Leo's tone, especially as it was highly out of character for him.

Leo felt numb and it scared him that his father had just died yet he couldn't even shed a tear. Seeing Vinnie's face seemed to evoke only anger for Leo, which lead the young man to lunge forward and punch Vinnie square in the jaw. Vinnie likely wouldn't be the only one shocked to see the mild-mannered lad use violence - especially against the Romano boss...

Conor watched the ambulance as it sped off towards the pier. He couldn't help but have a feeling of dread come over him, especially knowing James and Lucy might have been heading over there. He decided he was being paranoid - there were likely hundreds of people around there and plenty of people out wanting to cause trouble. He knew he needed to stop thinking every siren was linked to his family alone. Besides, with his cousins around, he decided Lucy may have talked James into sticking around at the Emerald.

"Judging by that ambulance, I don't think the pier is going to be the best choice. The less sirens I hear tonight, the better," Conor told Alex. "Apartment? Now, you never mentioned this apartment of yours. I think we should go there to warm up and dry off, then maybe get a couple of drinks?" he suggested. "You'll have to direct me there."

As Lucy held him tightly and said she was scared, James closed his eyes for a time. "I'm sorry, Lucy..." he apologised. Then she pulled back and began wiping her tears. James used his thumb to gently wipe away a little that she'd missed. "A friend of Conor's? He looks like a useful friend to have," James observed. When Lucy told him Conor had said he was as good as family, it filled him with a warmth that he wouldn't admit to. He didn't think he needed it, but it suddenly seemed like that kind of acceptance meant a lot to him. Lucy was right about them needing to get away from the pier. James turned to Kane and shook his hand. "Thanks for the help, mate," he told him.

"No problem, Mr Porter. Anything for a friend," Kane assured him. He'd kept to his end of the bargain, as Conor had to his. Kane figured this would encourage Conor to continue working with him and supplying what he needed. It helped that the Sullivans seemed a good bunch to be allied with, especially against the Romanos. "You two walk ahead. I'll stay nearby until you're away from the pier," he suggested. He didn't want to be a third wheel but wished to make sure they got safely away from the pier.

James held Lucy's hand as the walked back towards the city. She said she needed him to tell her everything, so he recalled what happened when he was stuck on the Ferris Wheel. "Oh, where do I start..." he exhaustively began. "The explosion back there was my car being blown up. Apparently Vinnie's also arranged to have my house blown to shit tonight. So, I'm technically homeless, if you ignore the shitty bedsit above my repair shop," he said, referring to his car mechanics garage. "Before Kane helped me, I was all for being taken to see Vinnie himself. I don't even know what I would have done once there, but I was prepared to do anything he asked to stop them from hurting you," he told her.

James suddenly stopped walking and took both of Lucy's hands, looking her in the eyes. "You're amazing, Lucy. I love everything about you and I've never felt as happy as I do when I'm with you..." he told her. It would become apparent there was more on his mind as his face turned more serious. "You've been through some terrible things these past few weeks and I think all of it is my fault. I enabled you to shoot Gianna, which then led to you being hurt and tortured. What just happened tonight - that's because I helped destroy Vinnie's bombs. I'm bad news, Lucy."

Luca had turned to look at Kate when she came in, all dressed up, like she was going to go out. He raised an eyebrow before drinking another shot, and walking toward her. "Meh, I could go for a drink at the pub." He replied while picking up the tux that was on the couch. He actually stopped when she asked him when was the last time he had hang out with Conor or James? That was a hard question because he had seen them but had decided to not speak with them. Why? Well he was still mad at himself for not knowing that they had been captured by Vinnie or even asked if they where alright. "I'm not really sure Kate, maybe a week ago or maybe a month ago or two, I'm not really sure at all." He responded before frowning. He really shouldn't be acting like a stronzo around them, but he just didn't know what to do. "It would be nice to see them but I been a real asshole lately, that I'm not sure if they are still mad or not."

"Yeah maybe it's best not to avoid the pier" she agreed. "Yeah its not mine really, it was Gio's but he left it with me when he went to Italy" she commented with a smile as she put on her seatbelt

..................

When they pulled up to the apartment, Alex undid her seatbelt and rooted through her bag till she pulled out her keys "C'mon" she said as she opened the car door and made her way up the flight of stairs to the first floor. Alex opened the door and stepped inside, flicking on the light as she did so. She had never actually been in Gio's apartment without him and felt a little sad as she remembered that he was no longer around. Pushing the thought to the back of her head, Alex made her way over to the bedroom and recieved a towel for Conor with some of Gio's trousers which he had left behind. "These should fit" She handed the clothes and Towel to Conor before making her way over to the cabinets to check for any alcohol. "Jackpot" she said happily as she pulled out a bottle of vodka and whiskey. She grabbed two glasses and made her way over to the couch.

Nicolo sat across from his father as he listened to the buisness side of things. He couldnt help think about how Gio would have been perfect for running the casino, he knew Gio would like it. When the door swung open, Nicolo turned to see Leo and Athena walk into the room "Hey Thena, Leo" he greeted but from the look on Leo's face, Nicolo knew something was wrong. He raised an eyebrow at the bag in his hand , his mouth opening in shock when Leo dumped the contents onto the table. "Leo what happened?" He asked, however instead of a reply, he watched as Leo struck his father in the face. Nicolo sat in shock for a second before jumping up and pulling Leo back from his father "Leo what the fuck man? Calm down and talk" he tried reasoning with him. Leo positioned himself between Leo and Vinnie. Both to stop Leo from hitting his father again but also to stop his father from retaliating. If Leo was acting out like this, something very bad had happened and this anger was going to get him killed if Nicolo didnt get involved

When Leo nodded, she followed him on the way to the car. Upon reaching and getting inside the vehicle, Athena quickly bucked up. During the ride, there a very uncomfortable silence in the air. So thick you could slice a knife through. Athena rested hand under her chin and glanced at the window, watched the city flew by her before her eyes. She tried to distract herself whilst being on this drive with Leo. Never did Athena think that the night would turn out to be so disastrous.

When Leo parked the car in the casino parking spot, she unbuckled her seat-belt and hopped out of the car. Waiting for Lo as he went in the backseat to retrieve the supplies.
After he had them in his hand, the two started towards the casino. Once inside, it didn't take long to find Vinnie due to the help of a few men informing them on where Vinnie was. Apparently, it was a new office of Vinnie's.

Walking by Leo's side to the Vinnie's office, she caught Leo's glance towards her. The look on his face was worrying. Athena continued with Leo, biting her lower lip nervously. Athena unconsciously brushed her hand against Leo's.

The two walked into the room when Vinnie greeted the two, giving them a warm smile. Athena gave a light wave to Vinnie and Nic. Leo however, was nowhere near welcoming. He would then pour out all the money from the bag and gun onto Vinnie's desk.

Vinnie commented on the way he was handling things, warning him to rearrange his tone.
It wasn't even a manner of seconds when Leo went towards Vinnie and threw a punch in his jaw. Athena's eyes grew wide with shock.
"Leo!" she exclaimed, surprised at the action.
The look on Leo's face was one of pure rage and it honestly scared her. Thankfully, Nic was the one to pull Leo back from attacking the man. Athena watched as Nicolo positioned himself between Leo and Vinnie. She honestly never seen this side of Leo before. She'd always seen him as a happy go-lucky guy. It was like he was a different person. However, with the events of the evening it was a bit understandable.

Lucy smiled to Kane as James thanked him and thanked him again as well. Conor was a genius for having outside connections and she would be sure to tell him so. Kane told them to walk ahead and that he would make sure they got out and away from the pier without any trouble. Her eyes scanned the area and noticed that most of the people who had been at pier were gone. It was a little to silent for her liking but when James began to speak of what happened on the Ferris wheel after she was taken, her attention was caught in his words. Her assumption was confirmed that it was Vinnie retaliating against James and it made her angry. Especially when he said the he was basically homeless. Her mind was thinking of ways to finally put the italian six feet under when James suddenly stopped and grabbed both of her hands.

The look on her face told her that he was serious about something and the terrible feeling in her gut seemed to know what was happening. Her eyes met his as he spoke again. It made her heart soar as he told her that he loved her and everything about her, but the dread kicked in at his wording. She had heard this kind of speech before. She shook her head before he even began speaking again, knowing what he was thinking. Her eyes watered slightly as he told her that everything that had happened to her, he blamed himself for. And when he finally concluded that he was bad news. She really didn't know what to say.

There was a familiar lump in her throat as she looked to him and wondered if she should say what she was thinking. To her it sounded like he wanted to end things. Not because he didn't love her, which was adding more to the pain. But because he wanted to protect her, because he thought he wasn't going to be anything but bad news. "James." She whispered softly and moved one of her hands to cup his face. The words he spoke to her sounded so final, like things were going to end. And she was sure they were. He was a stubborn man and if he wanted her safe...he would do anything to make it so. Even if that means sacrificing their happiness. "Y-you aren't bad news." She croaked, trying to find the words to say. "Look I know that you think that I would be much better off without you but...that is so far from the true." Lucy said. "I'm nothing without you. Hell I can't even remember the last time I had this much fun with someone...but...I won't stop you..."

When Lucy cupped his face with her hand, James could feel himself soften under her touch. She was the only good thing in his life. "I've never had fun like I do with you," he agreed, a brief small smile on his face. The longer he looked at her, the more powerful his heart grew. "You fill me with doubt, Lucy. I don't think it's a bad thing. I've spent my life detached from emotions but you've opened me up to allowing positive feelings... I can't do this." He said shaking his head and softly stroking her cheek with his fingertips. "I can't walk away from you. I love you too much now. That image of us both, and Lady..." He sighed. "I don't want to end this and I don't think I even could. But if you want out, I will have to accept that. I just don't want you to be hurt again because of my work."

Lucy watched his expression change as she spoke. Her eyes found his as he spoke, listening carefully. She wasn't sure how it was going to end, if it would end. She certainly didn't want it to, but he restored hope in her when he told her that he couldn't go through with walking away from her. She let out a small relieved smile, leaning into his fingers as they grazed her cheek. Lucy had never really known that he actually detached himself from emotions, sure he was quiet...maybe that's why she never knew. But now he was starting to open up to her and she was learning new things. "I love you...so very much." She murmured and stepped closer to her, taking a second to press her lips to his. "I don't want out of this, sure your job is dangerous. But even if you weren't around, I would still be in constant danger and getting hurt. Having you with me makes it all...bearable." Lucy admitted. She loved her family but it wasn't easy bearing the last name Sullivan. "Any pain is worth it."

Vinnie stumbled back after Leo had slammed his fist into his the side of his face. He touched the side of his cheek and wiggled his jaw around a little as he felt the throbbing pain from the punch. Luckily, Nicolo had pulled Leo away before the young man could hit Vinnie again. The Romano boss took a step towards Leo but Nicolo blocked his path and stood between them. Hearing Athena shout Leo's name reminded Vinnie the young lady was present - another person the man had treated as one of his own. It was perhaps her presence that stopped Vinnie from grabbing the gun and holding it up to Leo's head to scare some sense into him. After Nicolo told Leo to calm down and talk, Vinnie cleared his throat. "I'll give you that one for free, but you'd better explain yourself before I lose my patience," he berated Leo. The fact Leo had never so much as raised his voice was the only reason he was being given chance to explain. "What happened and where is Sandro?"

When Nicolo stepped in, Leo glared at his friend, almost looking straight through him . He listened to Nicolo and Vinnie before glancing to Athena, who he realised he'd probably scared with his behaviour. He took deep breaths to calm himself before stepping to one side so Nicolo wasn't blocking his view of Vinnie. "Some guys stole the car with the weapons in, so the deal didn't go ahead," he answered. He was going to leave it at that, but knew he had to explain the rest. "The guy selling those weapons thought my dad had crossed him and he shot him," Leo added, his voice faltering. "Sandro is dead. He was doing your dirty work and now he's dead. I kept telling him to stop doing these jobs but he wouldn't listen to me. I warned him..." Leo went on, no longer able to speak as he finally began to cry and stood helplessly sobbing in the middle of the room.

Vinnie was for the moment speechless. Sandro had always been a good employee; one was was willing to get his hands dirty and take risks. "Leo, I'm sorry for your loss. You don't deserve to have this happen to you..." Now wasn't the time to say it out loud, but Vinnie also knew Sandro was a selfish man and a poor excuse for a father. It was the main reason Vinnie had given Leo the opportunities at the hotel. He knew Sandro never paid any attention to his son's happiness and well-being, only putting money first. Vinnie hoped Nicolo and Athena would console their friend, because he couldn't pretend Sandro deserved Leo's grief.

Lucy raise a curious eyebrow at Luca's apparent nonchalance towards the idea of going for a drink at the pub. He was generally quite disinterested and absent at the moment. "I mean, don't let me force you to go out," she sarcastically remarked. He was also pretty unsure about when he'd last spent real time with the Sullivans and James. "When does a week ever go by without at least one of you guys being an asshole?" she half-joked. "I know James is serious and holds grudges, but you're both on the same side, so I'm sure he'll come round if you at least try? As for Conor, you know all you have to do is buy the guy a pint and he'll hear you out. I don't think he's even mad at you, Luca. Why would he be?"

Conor followed Alex out of his car and to her apartment. With his trousers soggy and stuck to his legs, he couldn't help but walk oddly in discomfort. Getting into the lake had been just another item for the list of silly stunts he'd pulled - oddly, he was sober for this one. Conor entered the apartment and was grateful be somewhere a little warmer than his car had been. Alex emerged from the bedroom and handed him a towel, along with some clothes. Having already seen each other without clothes before, Conor just got undressed in the middle of the apartment and began drying himself off with the towel. Alex happily held out a couple of bottles of alcohol and Conor grinned. "Whiskey for me, love," he requested. He then began getting dressed in Gio's trousers, which were a little tighter on his muscular legs, but otherwise fitted fine.

"So..." he began, sitting close to her on the couch. "You've got me for a few more hours. I hope you use your time wisely," he told her, grinning as he took a sip of his drink. He'd promised he'd be back at the pub to lock up, so he'd have to get back there at some point during the night.

When Lucy told him again that she loved him, James felt the warmth of her words soften him once more. He was sure every time she said it he would feel that same sense of belonging and the awakening of his heart. Even the objective and business-focused side of him hadn't been strong enough to let him break away from Lucy. He was too far gone and he knew it. He didn't even care, because for the first time he was truly happy. He grinned at her when she kissed his lips.

"I know your life is dangerous with or without me in it. I think I'm still a little unnerved from what happened back there," he reasoned. "I guess I just wanted to give you a get out of jail card, in case you were having second thoughts." Deciding a shift in mood was in order, he suddenly wrapped his arms around her waist, lifted her a little, and spun her around on the spot. He then stopped and kissed her before pulling away and grinning. "Come on, Blondie. Let's get you home," he suggested. He then reached into his jacket pocket and held the pink ball out. "I want to see Lady's eyes light up when she sees this!"

Sinead Sullivan

Sinead didn't leave it too late before deciding she had to return home. She hadn't given any kind of warning or suggestion to her family that she wouldn't be home that night, so she knew she couldn't stay at Angel's without causing them to worry. As she got dressed, all she could think about was how much she loved the Italian. She only wished he wasn't one of Vinnie's men and he wasn't enemies with her family. For now, she knew things would just have to keep seeing him in secret and hope they could somehow find a solution to that giant complication.

Once she was dressed, Sinead had Angel drop her off a short distance from her home. "I've had a lovely evening," she told him, her face etched with a sweet, bashful smile. "Until next time, Giovanni," she said, leaning forward to kiss his lips. Hesitantly, she got out of the car and gave Angel a quick wave before she walked home as fast as her legs would take her.

When Sinead entered the house, she was relieved there was nobody around to greet her and ask about her evening, but at the same time she was disappointed. It always seemed a little eerie when such a large house was so empty. Even her mother had retreated to bed already. After getting dressed in some warmer and more comfortable clothes, Sinead returned downstairs and curled up on the sofa. She already missed Angel and she couldn't stop thinking about what had been yet another amazing evening with him. She loved him and there was nobody she could even tell about it. The smile returned to Sinead's face when Lady jumped up onto the couch and curled up in a ball next to her.

The mood had taken a somber turn for a moment or two, and Lucy stayed silent after James finished speaking. But suddenly his arms were snaked around her waist and pulling her up off the ground and spinning her in his arms. She let out a laugh as he did so, a bit surprised at how easily he was able to pick her up. Once her feet touched the ground, his lips met hers and they shared a sweet and tender kiss. Pulling away as well, she met his grin with her own and nodded her head. Her eyes widened however as Jame pulled out the ball. "You still have it!" She said happily. Lady was going to be one spoiled pooch with James around, but Lucy certainly didn't mind. "She's going to be so excited, she probably won't stop playing with it till the thing pops, and maybe even after then." She laughed thinking about how hyper and excitable the dog was. Lucy had fun while the fun lasted...but now she was ready to go home.

As she took his hand and they continued to walk, she looked ahead before quietly asking, "Where will you go?" Her eyes scanned the area around them before she looked to him. "Because you can always stay with us..." There wasn't any other rooms available, and she knew that her mother may be a bit uncomfortable with the idea...and maybe her siblings. But she wasn't going to let that stop her. Especially since James was only working to help her family.

As they walked home, Lucy asked James where he would go and sleep now his house was destroyed. He hadn't really given it serious thought yet. He hadn't even let it sink in either. He still had money stashed away and the garage, but he knew they were no good in the short-term not long-term. Though not overly attached to his house, the place was somewhere he'd been able to relax and it was something he'd always taken pride in. Most of all, what he'd really lost was his photographs. He didn't have many, but the only pictures of his dad had been in the house. "I'm not sure. I know your guest rooms are all booked up for a while." He was getting a new car the next day, but sleeping properly in that would be hard enough even in the short-term. "I would really like to stay with you guys. Even if it has to be on the sofa," he said, though is tone suggested Lucy's bed would be better.

Once they arrived home, Lady jumped down from the sofa and came running to Lucy and James. James let Lucy greet her dog first before he crouched down and began stroking Lady. "Have I got a treat for you," he said. James then began throwing the ball for the puppy and play fighting when she wouldn't let go of the ball, gripping it between her teeth.

Sinead had been watching with amusement before standing up and gazing to Lucy. "Hey, Luce," she greeted her sister. After a brief pause, she stepped forward and gave her a tight hug. Angel's suggestion about running away together had now got her relieved to still see her family and wanted to share her love for them, just in case she ever did have to flee without warning. She wouldn't let a day go by without appreciating her family. "You two look happy together," Sinead observed, giggling as she saw how focused James was as he played with Lady.

Chapter 8: This is Halloween
Tuesday 31st October 1948
Over two weeks later...
Evening – Chilly, dry, clear skies

The Sullivans

Over a week ago, Lucy had received an invitation to a Halloween ball which was being held at Crystal Ballroom, a fancy club which housed the city's most lavish ballroom. It was certainly an offer too good to decline, that's for sure. The party was this evening and the guests were to come in fancy dress or masquerade costumes. When Sinead had got wind of the event, she was excited on Lucy's behalf and practically told both Lucy and James they had to go together. After some hesitation, James agreed to accompany Lucy to the ball. The hesitation being purely about the idea of wearing some sort of Halloween fancy dress.

Sinead had the full day off work and she'd been glad for it as she'd been tired all day, spending the last hour napping on the couch whilst her family ate dinner. She'd seen Angel a number of times since the evening she'd first gone back to his place. Those days had been great and she was so in love with that man. The downside being that she had to keep it all a secret from the rest of her loved ones. As her family finished up dinner, she woke up and groggily sat up on the couch, rubbing her eyes. She was starting to wish she had somewhere to go this evening, but she figured Angel had plans and she knew Lucy had plans.

Then, Conor entered the lounge, with his cousins and Luca likely following. With Kate's help, Conor and Luca had spoken the previous week and any issues they might have had were instantly resolved. As such, Conor had made sure to invite the man over for dinner as Emmet wasn't present to do so himself. "Who wants to go out tonight?" he cheerfully asked the room. He sat on the couch next to Sinead and placed his arm firmly around his unusually quiet sister. "Finn, Aidan, Maggie, Kean, Luca..." he began, suggestively raising his eyebrows. "We don't have to do any of that Halloween shit if you don't want, but where shall we go? I'm sure as Hell not staying inside tonight, even if it means going out and getting pissed alone"

The Romanos

Vinnie was completely indifferent to Halloween and the fact some people might want to indulge in the farce. Instead, he'd told Fortuna, Nicolo, Alex and Olivia to be in his office at the casino this evening, for a catch-up. Typical of Vinnie, they would arrive before he did and they would know he wouldn't attempt to apologise when he did decide to arrive. Vinnie would not consider himself late as he'd never said he'd be there before they arrived. He was intending on having a quick meeting about business before going out into the main area of the casino and having some social time with Nicolo, Alex and the others if they chose to stick around after business talk.

Olivia had entered the empty office, but seeing nobody else was there yet, she decided to wait out in the hallway until someone else joined her.

On his way to the casino, Vinnie had stopped off at Angel's apartment. The man in question would hear a loud knock at his door as Vinnie stood on his own outside, have left his driver waiting in the car.

Leo Davide

After his father's funeral, Leo had done his best to get back to normal. Although the man was pissed off about the punch, Vinnie had let it slide given the lad had just seen his father murdered. Leo remained distant with the Romano boss, but once the funeral was over with, he began speaking to the man again and returned to work at the hotel. He'd heard suggestions that the Sullivans had been behind the theft of the weapons, which had indirectly led to Sandro being killed. Although he knew they hadn't pulled the trigger, it still didn't stop him from deep down blaming them. After all, they'd also been responsible for Gianna's death. He wasn't feeling quite so detached from this gang war anymore.

Leo had apologised to Athena for his aggression towards Vinnie and that she had to witness it. He had also invited her to a fancy Halloween party, as he'd suggested on their date at the pier. He wasn't completely sure she'd join him, but he decided to get dressed up as a vampire anyway and turned up on her doorstep to hopefully take her out for the evening. If not, he at least hoped she'd get a laugh out of his fangs, pale make-up and long cloak.

Accompanied by the telltale sound of her clicking heels, Fortuna walked down the hallway with confident strides. She was as stylish as always, wearing a simple black top coupled with a pair of black tuxedo pants and gold ankle-strap platforms. A gold quilted jacket was slung over her shoulders akin to a cape of sorts, while a black leather tote bag was carried in her right hand.

As she swiftly approached, Fortuna's ruby painted lips quirked into a smile. "Olivia, darling, how have you been?" She greeted the hostess amicably, taking on a friendly and welcoming air.
