That's about it from us, we suppose. We've done our best to provide you with a good empty room. Now it's your time to get creative with the interior design!

By following what we've laid out, you can make your character as clean-cut or as complex as you would like. It's not about how intricate you make your character, but about the person they are and how well you think you can write them. Take for example our two characters.
Silver's Ranieri is a seaperson. There's nothing out of the ordinary about his existence, so Silver doesn't need to delve into the deep about it and will use your standard mechanics without worry. Surprises and challenges for him will come from his interpersonal interactions.
Headphones' Rado is a human under a curse. This immediately calls for further explanation as to what the pros and cons of the curse are and how they will be balanced. One of the ways this has been done is by using frequent Luck Rolls and essentially placing both the character and the author in a challenging position that may or may not work in their favour.

Both character builds are equally loved. At the end of the day, we're here to have fun with our writing, so let go of your worries and write what your heart desires!

And from me, Silver; I want to also thank you for taking a look at our project! We’ve worked very hard on it, using experience from both GM’s lives and research, and also combined experience from RPs over the course of several years. For my part, I’ve taken inspiration from Table Tops I’ve done and wanted to spice the RP up with a simple structure that loosely follows that of a TTRPG. Of course this is still your free-form RP, but with some fun little curves to make sure all is fair and a little unpredictable. It’s my hope that while we get creative, we can still enjoy some routine and reliable GM posts that move the story along. And of course, foster an environment that feels comfortable to come back to! We aren’t sure who all will jump aboard, but we hope those who do will enjoy their time, the writing process and making characters. This is a labor of love, and we want everyone to feel that they’re welcome. With a little bit of Time period drama, urban fantasy, romance and mystery, we look forward to cultivating this story and world with you!

Headcanons
He generally wears high-neck shirts or any article of clothing that is able to help hide the scars on his throat.

Due to his throat injury, any attempt at producing sounds can be uncomfortable, and at times painful for him, so he tends to stay silent as much as he can.

He desperately wants to form connections with people but at the same time he tries to maintain distance out of fear of losing anyone else that he cares about.

Sometimes will seek out physical closeness with someone against his better judgement; he can't help it, he's touch-starved and lonely.

Wide shoulders and a compact build, with a strange way of melting away personal space that can only be attributed to his shining vibrancy. Rio's a comfortable man, all relaxed bearings and lively movements. It makes him easy to get used to, like he's always been there. And you can see it, even on first meetings, see that he belongs with a crowd with a face made for smiles and a propensity to pass them out like flyers for an opening day. He's going to have laugh lines one day, little crinkles at the corners of his slender grey eyes. Though, he'll have to find a way to fix his hair, first. It's a soft thing, but those black strands hold a life of their own, bouncing and billowing along with their owner's likeness. Luckily for Rio, that can always be hidden with a hat; likely a nice collegiate or boater, or perhaps a simple but stylish golf cap.

Personality
The welcoming presence of a mellow morning, embodied in bright smiles and easy laughter. Rio is made for the presence of others. He’s outgoing, as his tendency to strike up conversations on the streets suggests; the type of outgoing that leaves him easily invested and curious—maybe a little too curious. More often than not, it makes him brash, but for all his recklessness, he knows how to avoid stepping on boundaries. Part of that can be attributed to his open-mindedness towards those he’s curious about, always waiting for that next part of the story, the fact that will shine a light on their motivations. It’s not a courtesy he always extends toward others, though Rio keeps his dissatisfaction to quiet complaints rather than red-faced fury. Most of his frustrations are treated this way, bottled away for later perusal rather than direct confrontation. Rio’s not a man for conflict, especially not for himself.

HISTORY
Chapter 01
As the last piece that completed a five-person family, Rio was born into a household of whirlwind vibrancy, always surrounded by an older brother and even older sister who were both desperately excited to earn the attention of the baby coddled in their parents’ arms.

It was a simple childhood. At home, hazy sunlight would filter in through their open windows, dappling the textbooks scattered atop the counters; some closed to pastel paperbacks, others open to colorful pictures and large print. Outside, idyllic ecstasy would bubbly forth from hours spent frolicking in the sun, living in the grassy gaps between houses and on the golden stretches of beachside sands. Sometimes, he would be accompanied by the other humans that lived down the street, and other times, by the mermaids that swam alongside the shore.

He spent a summer with one of those mermaids, entranced by the sight of his curly brown hair and the grace with which he swam. Even today, Rio will deny spending each day basking in rocky coves, two bottles of juice in hand, and each night in study, furiously drilling sign language. And every time he does, he’ll be lying.

Rio has always found it easy to love. He was made for warm days filled with shared lemonade and glistening sunsets that danced over linked hands. He was made for it.
Chapter 02
Rio must have been made for music, too, because when he played a piece on the piano for the first time, it felt like capturing a little bit of sunlight in the spaces of sound. He’d been practicing for almost a year at that point, fingers learning to shape themselves to black and white keys, eyes learning to read the language of notes and rests.

At that point, he decided to practice for the rest of his life if it meant moments like that, moments where life seemed that little bit brighter, that little bit sweeter. And so, he spent his after-school hours in that small room with a second-hand piano for company, the afternoon glow falling on the sheet music just like that and, well—that was just perfect.

Years later, on a day like any other, his fingers met the wood of a cello, and his ears caught on the low, ringing timbre of his instructor’s playing. When he guided his bow across the strings, it was far from the same, but he knew he would fall in love nevertheless. One instrument became two, and after countless evenings devoted to practice, Rio did.

He goes on to win awards, to win ribbons, to win gold.

Still, when he hears—stops, and actually hears—a saxophone for the first time, he swears his world changes. Music becomes more than something he creates; it becomes something he shares, something he enjoys in accompaniment with the performer down the street.

If everything before was capturing sunlight, then the saxophone has to be shaping stars. A world flows forward in liquid gold. Rio settles on street corners and takes in the jazz that floats from open doors like the breath of life. He reclaims the grassy pastures of youth and sprawls amidst the wildflowers with sticky fingers and an instrument in hand. He learns that there is more to enjoy than the final performance and the process of practice. He learns that there’s joy to be found in the imperfections, too.
Chapter 03
It begins with a glass of homemade lemonade and a senior student’s homework sprawled across the kitchen table. Rio finishes it quickly, and his hands settle around his sax with unprecedented ease, his breath forming a quick, lilting jingle that seems to fill the room with a quiet radiance.

His body is lax, and his tongue is loose. Offhandedly, he muses about spending the rest of his life like this. Maybe he should spend his life spreading dulcet joy just like the players in the pubs and the performers on the street. Maybe he could be a composer.

His mother knocks the cup over in surprise, wondering if that’s truly the path he wants to take. It’s a difficult one; wouldn’t something more practical be better? And though Rio laughs it off and wipes up the mess, they never do talk about it. Looking back, they really, really should’ve before things went too far.

They didn’t, so it ends with glass on the floor and liquid gold spilling off the table, drip, drip, dripping onto the mess below.

It continues, of course it does, because the possibilities are beginning to spin together, and Rio has never been more sure of something in his life. For the first time, he and his parents get into an argument they can’t quite fix. It spirals, fragments, and grows until, one day, it becomes something no one can control.

Maybe he ran away that day, or maybe he was chased out. Either way, Rio ends up alone with that one final conversation ringing in his ears and his independence in hand.
Chapter 04
Somehow, Rio finds someone willing to take him in. She’s only a few years older than him, but those years feel like the difference between maturity and not. Maybe it’s because she’s a medical student, or maybe it’s because she’s already the sole caretaker of her baby brother.

Between the time he spends busking for tips and playing for quick jobs, Rio manages to integrate into the small family. It’s the little things—buying ingredients on the way back and cooking them into that night’s dinner, picking Marco up from preschool and bringing him to the park when Josefina is busy with her studies—and one day, Marco calls him uncle, and that’s not right, but it is. It is, and Rio realizes that this house has become a home, and this family has become his own. He might cry a little that day, and this time, this time, he’ll admit it.

Still, for all his success with relationships, Rio’s life as a musician is, well—hard. After all, the very natures of the sun is that it rises and falls, bringing about day and night. Difficulty will always come, and when difficulty comes, Rio struggles. In that struggle, he jots down his joy and his bitterness, collected in scraps of paper. In that struggle, he finds writing. In that struggle, he finds a candlelight.

Where his music began as something for himself, his writing was always something meant to be shared. It was, undoubtedly, a different form of love, but it was not weaker for it. After all, if ten thousand candles burned together, could they not rival the sun in intensity?
Chapter 05
With two lights in hand, Rio finds a new understanding, and he sees a new path where he stumbled in the past. He reaches out, and his family begins to knit itself back together.

Coffee sipped in quiet company at the café becomes champagne drunk on rambunctious nights becomes lemonade shared in his childhood home with Marco being entertained by his brother as Josefina grins in easy appreciation.

The injuries have healed, and love beats stronger than ever, shared by two families joined in place of one.
Chapter 06
Still, light is meant to be shared, and Rio can’t help but look beyond the horizons of Sardinia. He tells his family of his plans to go, just for a little, and he buys a ticket for the ferry. When the time comes, he hugs his father, teases his brother, and promises to bring Marco gifts from all over the world.

Their goodbyes linger with him as the sunlight sets the sea aglow, and Rio knows he’ll miss this place with the very fiber of his being. Then, he turns his eyes to the burning horizon looming with all the possibilities of tomorrow.

Time flies, and he travels the world just as he’d promised, capturing that hope for a better tomorrow within the pages of his journal. He visits people devastated by natural disasters—by fire, by famine, by flood—and hands his work in to be printed as a plea for aid, as a record of human resilience and the love found in the wreckage.

Every few months, he returns to Sardinia, buying bundles of moving film and bouncing between family houses. He comes, as promised, with gifts for the family and leaves with the same to continue lighting to dark.

Until one day, when Rio looks and sees that the night sky is already filled with candles and stars. He realizes that there are others who are already lighting the path forward, and, well, isn’t that beautiful?
Chapter 07
What’s almost more beautiful is that, in the wake of realization, Rio realizes that it wouldn’t hurt to just—stay. And so, he does.

He stays, content to wake up to a familiar presence, to spend the days accompanied by all those he holds close. It is a wonderful thing.

Rio begins to draft about the small things, beautiful in their simplicity. Lists recommending the obscure restaurants that line the streets, articles covering the bike races that send riders speeding across the city, accompanied by snapshots in motion.

When news of the ‘accident’ comes, Rio can’t help but be curious.

Plot Hooks
Due to the nature of his job, Rio developed a keen awareness of philanthropists. Among them, Sardo Ramene was one of the most outstanding. Perhaps Rio’s admiration of the man was because of his clean reputation, or perhaps it was because the subject that Sardo sponsored was closed to his own heart. Either way, he was someone Rio particularly enjoyed reading about.

With the news of his passing, Rio decided to publish a comprehensive article celebrating his accomplishments in life. Of course, in the case of a murder like this, there’s no such thing as a celebration without closure, and so here Rio is, searching for the true story behind Sardo’s passing.
Elevator Pitch
Rio is meant to serve as a spot of hope within the narrative. His goal is as simple as living life to the fullest, doing the things he enjoys, and spending time with those he loves. He offers opportunities to revel in the happiest parts of life, bringing the crew to eat out, karaoke, or otherwise participate in the little things the more disillusioned members may overlook. I hope that his presence may serve as a lighthouse, illuminating the possibilities of a fulfilling life filled with normalcy and guiding others to walk down the same path.

Within the investigations, he opens the door to converse with anyone touched by Sardo’s actions, whether they be close friends or benefactors of his generosity, allowing the cast to find insight from Sardo’s past to discover the motivation behind the murder. Additionally, his occupation as a journalist can also provide them with access to restricted locations or exclusive personalities when the high-profile and rule-bound nature of official investigations would prove detrimental.

Ethnicity: Spanish/Greek on her mother's side, Japanese on her father's.

Type: Witch / Ito
Occupation: 'Odd-Job for hire' (somewhere between unemployed and self-sufficient. What most would call a drifter.)

Significant tool: A tightly bound enchanted chain she wears around her neck as though nothing more than a simple fashion accessory. When unclasped it can reach out and grab objects and people in its grasp but is not an offensive weapon in and of itself. Simply a form of restraint whilst her fists and kicks deal out any real damage.

Appearance:
Height: 5'8" Weight: 56kg
A tall, refined, and slender build able to vaguely conceal the toned muscles beneath any article of clothing. Primarily situated in her upper torso and calves. The body of someone experienced in hand-to-hand combat at least to a semi-professional degree. Her tan skin and delicate features seem in harsh juxtaposition to the many piercings and most of all large tattoo pieces along her arms, back, and neck. Able to be hidden via a long-sleeved jacket with a high-rimmed collar but something she doesn't seem overly bothered about doing unless where such a shocking thing would raise unneeded aggravation from those around her.

Abilities: Not particularly talented in any spell work beyond the basics due to her upbringing and previous country's treatment of those with such powers. She is however incredibly fit physically. (witches: please, describe how they use their magic and a maximum of 3 spells that you expect them to use)

Personality:
Brash, Mysterious, Quiet observer, and Calculating however her quick temper often causes trouble she could easily have avoided. A huge soft spot for small animals. Her scary expressions lead those around her to avoid or minimize contact, but upon going to get to know the girl she's rather loud, cheerful, and friendly. Mostly acts in such a way due to the preconceptions people have toward her appearance. "Old habits die hard."
