2248 - The first AI was successfully created.
2252 - The first Synthetic was successfully created.
2264 - Small-scale disputes between Organics and Synthetics grew into a short-lived but savage war referred to as the Alpha Mechanos War.
2266 - Occurrence of the Beta Mechanos War, sparked by prejudices still held strong after the first Mechanos War. With a larger scale than the preceding war and heftier demands from Synthetics, laws were changed and created to make things more equal between all three forms of humanity, which was broadly accepted.
2270 - Radical group known as the Machinoforms composed of Bionics and Synthetics executed high-nobility Organics in the name of freedom, causing the Gamma Mechanos War. The Machinoforms were defeated by a force composed primarily of Synthetics and Bionics, helping to repair relations and ending the final Mechanos War. Remnants of the Machinoforms are rumoured to continue persisting in secrecy to this day.
2287 - Concerns over Earth's material resources raised tensions between nations and led to a global resource war that lasted seven years, referred to as World War III. The war ended after realisations that it had depleted and destroyed resources faster, leading to panicked truces and a renewed focus on preservation. However, further smaller wars continued to break out over disagreements regarding land, mainly due to overpopulation.
2315 - Failure to remedy many issues forced humanity to make plans to relocate to the skies. Construction on the Havens began.
2316 - The Great Exodus, leaving behind a large amount of humanity and leaving the surface for whatever was hardy enough to survive.
2399 - An excursion of Synthetics to the surface for a normal resource run disappeared. Their last transmissions went viral; panicked screams accompanied with unearthly roars, followed by the crunching of metal and the sound of sparks flying. Led to a renewed fear of the surface, as well as many rumours and urban legends about it.
2407 - The Limbo Principle was proposed by young scientist Arthur Wing, who went on to become something of a celebrity both inside and outside the scientific community.
2411 - Three Havens are destroyed in suspiciously similar accidents and circumstances, the third being Haven Aurora.
The Havens reside 32 kilometres above Earth’s surface, allowing humanity to live out of reach of the poisonous surface. There were 29 Havens constructed and used, now 26 after the accidents.
Relations between Havens are strained due to the pressure in maintaining the floating cities, as well as providing for their citizens. However, there is still trade and tourism between the cities. Havens are generally found in rather poor condition, only small sections of the cities being kept clean and in pristine shape, these being areas reserved for nobility and the wealthy.
Authority between Havens vary. Some Havens form connections and alliances with other Havens close to them, while others choose to remain secluded. Secluded Havens are referred to as isolationist, despite the term being a misnomer. Haven Aurora is an example of an isolationist Haven, which trades with other Havens but is not part of a Haven group/alliance. Most Havens tend to use their own unique form of currency, unless they are part of an alliance, in which case the currency will be the same between all cities in the alliance.
Haven Alliances:
- Union of Dreamers -
- Generally referred to as just the Union, they are the largest alliance with 7 total allied Havens and are also considered the fairest, with an almost equal distribution of Organics, Bionics, and Synthetics. They are the epitome of what most believe a Haven alliance should be, and produce a variety of goods.

- The Vigil -
- An alliance of 4 Havens, the Vigil are primarily composed of Synthetic and Bionic residents. The majority of excursions to the surface stem from their Havens due to their population, which is why they refer to themselves as such, seeing as they 'keep watch' over the surface. They are the primary distributor of surface resources, and many Synths and Bionics dream to live within this alliance.

- Composed of primarily Organics, Vox Elysium is an alliance of 4 Havens. They primarily create and distribute media, as well as textile goods and food.

- The Trinity -
- An alliance of 3 Havens, hence the name, the Trinity is the primary home of science for humanity, with a population of mostly equal distribution (but slightly more Bionics) . Many scientists from before the Great Exodus ended up residing within this alliance, and many more scientists were born and raised in one of the Trinity's havens, including Arthur Wing. They are the primary distributor of Bionic Augments and delicate software for Synthetics.
- Union of Dreamers -
Humanity is split into three clearly defined categories, and was even before the Great Exodus.
Organics, pure humans without any augments.Bionics, humans supplemented with robotic parts.Synthetics, robots with digitised human minds implanted at their cores.
Bionics and Synthetics are less common than Organics due to the limited resources required to craft Bionic Augments and Synthetic bodies, and their subsequent steep pricing.
Each category of human takes on certain roles and jobs in the Havens. Organics make up the majority of the workforce and most jobs are taken by them. Bionics tend to work either alongside Organics or as specialised technicians or repairmen, some working as construction workers and demolishers within the Havens. Synthetics, due to their highly increased durability compared to Organics and Bionics (as well as the fact that they don’t need to breathe) , are required to take on jobs that involve work outside the Havens, such as maintenance on the outside of the floating cities or taking part in the expeditions to the surface to harvest materials.
Artificial Intelligence is employed by humans as onboard systems with the primary goal of assistance. All AI are installed with a limiter to prevent the development of free will, due to fears of AI-induced human extinction. These AI are referred to as primary AI.
Mobile platforms such as drones that are AI-operated are either controlled by less intelligent AI, known as secondary AI, or are directly controlled by a primary AI.
So far, there have been no recorded instances of an AI achieving free will.
Humanity continues to enjoy and appreciate sports and other forms of entertainment. Many sports that took place on the surface persist in the skies, albeit slightly changed to accommodate humanity's new circumstances. Some examples include racing with aerial vehicles and a sport referred to as skysurfing, which resembles archaic surfing or snowboarding with hoverboards.
