The mystery...
...
The City of Deerwood is barely a city at all, but they have a problem. People in Deerwood disappear. About one every five years. People with jobs, friends, prospects, lives, just up and vanish without a word, no outstanding problems, no warning signs, and no signs of a struggle. This time, a high school girl, perfectly fine first period, gone before second.
The town has a somewhat sordid history, but the local public high school has the worst reputation by far. Pinecliff was originally Edmund Keaton High School, named for its founder and original benefactor. The name was changed shortly after it’s founder was discovered, murdered in the library. Thanks to the secrecy of the Keaton family, and the lack of investigative technology available at the time, the murder was never solved.
Much of the town is content to hold candlelight vigils and move on with their lives. But this time, a group of determined teenagers has their sights set on solving a mystery that’s looking more supernatural in nature by the second.
Take on a role as one of a group of an unlikely team who won't let bygones be bygones, and might just solve the problem of disappearances for the future of the town as well.

The Mean Girl
The school is named after her family. One of the richest families in town, they hold the secrets of the original murder in the school, and maybe about many other things. She used to rule the school with an iron fist, but she's been much quieter since her mom passed last year, mostly leaving the reign of terror to her preppy sidekicks. She is a pain to work with, but it might not be possible to solve the mystery without her.

The Childhood Bestfriend
What is says on the tin. Was close with the mean girl as children and through middle school, until they were dropped like a hot potato. The childhood bestfriend can hold their own, but is a common target of the sidekicks.

The Reporter
Determined to take over the school newspaper, this looks like the perfect scoop. Even if everyone else is convinced it's a lost cause, the intrepid reporter is going to solve the mystery and impress the real reporters to gain an internship or post graduation gig at the town paper no matter how many crazy hoops they have to jump through or seances they have to host

The Dead Girl
Here one minute, gone the next. The dead girl was bound for Standford next fall. Gorgeous, going places, gone. She was perfect, and the perfect victim. Or was she? *note, the dead girl does not necessarily have to be a girl.

The Enthusiast
The Enthusiast knows everything there is to know about hauntings. From Buzzfeed Unsolved to the Exorcist, they have an encyclopedic knowledge of the paranormal, although they might be in this more for the thrill of the ghost story than the sake of the dead girl and her family.

The Guide
The Dead Girl isn't the only one to meet a grisley supernatural fate around here. The guide was a past victim, still spiritually hanging around the school. They're showing the Dead Girl the ropes of ghost life, reluctantly or enthusiastically is up to you, and end up along for the ride trying to solve the mystery of both their deaths, even though they aren't sure it will change anything after so long.

The Ex
The Ex held a torch for the Dead Girl. They may or may not have been officially together, that's up to you. Either way, the Ex is tearfully determined to get closure, and would also really like the suspicion to move away from them. It's always the partner, right?

The Golden Boy
He can do no wrong, according to most of the town at least. There's no way he would be wrapped up in anything like this, or would he? Straight A's, perfect hair, with a natural charisma, why is he so determined to help find out what happened to the dead girl? *Note the golden boy does not have to be a boy

The Burnout
The usual suspect. You name it, the burnout's been pulled into the principals office for it. This time though, they were minding their own business! So what if they were suspiciously the last person to see the Dead Girl alive. They would like everyone to find someone else to blame for once, but it might not be so easy to get out of this as one of two prime suspects.

rule one!
Queer, trans, and POC characters are welcomed and encouraged. If you aren't about it, go ahead and pound sand.
rule two!
Please be active and stick around. I have some plot and mystery ideas but if things are getting stale for you, plot it up on discord and we'll find a way to involve you more!
rule three!
This is not a novella rp, but 3rd person writing, multi sentence posts, and general coherence are a must.
rule four!
Join our discord! This is going to be plot heavy, and while we acknowledge that rp is a fun side hobby and certainly not everything needs to be perfect, we DEFINITELY need to be on the same page for it to work.
rule five!
Please be 18+ There are so many great teenage writers on this site, but not for this storyline.
