The One Who Wanders
"The year is 2021, not much has changed within the world other than a few technologies here and there. This is not one of your classic stories where the world randomly breaks into war, or technology runs rampant as robots try to rule. Rather, this story is about something you are quite aware of, something you are either quite skilled at, or at least attempted at one point. Think a little deeper, haha, alright, not that deep now. Let's see if a little phrase can spark that mind of yours, I bet you misunderstand it at first! 'Wanna play a game?' You just thought of Saw, didn't you? Why does everyone go there? Anyways, this story is quite literally that, it's all but a game. Or maybe, it's about life? Well, nevertheless we will find out."

Good Luck, Have Fun.

The Scorched Desert, location unknown.
Welcome to the game of secrets.

Enter the world

In the beginning, you find yourself drifting weightlessly. Your surroundings are pixelated, and no matter how hard you try all you can see is the mass of cubed colors swarming endlessly around you. And then, the pixels come to flow through you, and with them you come to ask not only where you are, but who you were. None would answer, but everything would, the pixels quickly shifting into imagery before dissipating quickly. What could those images have meant? Where they family? Possessions? Memories? That was the last thing you could remember.

Waking within a temple, you find yourself with a mass of people, each alarmed and questioning where they were whether vocally, or in silence. The doors thrust open, an overwhelming brightness flowing through as if to command the attention of all before dimming away to reveal the vastness outside. Running to the door you can see stairs leading downwards, from the temple and into a city. Structures made of wood and stone, walls circling the community with only one gate. Over the walls you can see highlands for miles as you in fact stand at the central peak of a mountain, crescent in shape.

You run into the city, looking for someone, anyone that might know who you were or where this was. Alas, all answers came back the same. This was the town of Aparches, as it always has been. They brand you adventurer, like all others from the temple. Not a single one native to this land mistook your identity, as if all were in on this scheme. They said that it was your quest to explore these lands, to aide the people you met on your journey. That one way or another, class or not, you would have to find your way to survive.

Within these lands, you find that you can understand things quickly, that your memory seemingly never ends when it comes time to remember an occurrence within it. Every day that comes to pass, you feel like something is changing, that you are putting distance between who you are, and who you were. The only clue that you can find is upon the temple's walls. 'Welcome, to the Game called Life.'

Starting Highlands

Rolling highlands, reaching to as far as the eye can see, built to exceed the beauty of the Scottish lands they were based. Lakes like crystal danced across the lands, bending to match the shape of the highlands. And lush greenery glazing upon the ground to form contrast amongst the rocky slopes. Paths were not carved into the land, but molded by the beauty as they gracefully slithered along. Ruins of old civilizations could very well be found, tempered stones carved with perfection marking their locations. Long since overrun by the nature of the land as moss and flowers bloomed upon the ancient structures. One of the most noteworthy features of this land is the vast mountain topped in the shape of a crescent as if it was attempting to shelter it's habitable face from the harshness of the elements. It is here that town called 'Aparches', resides.

Dungeons

GleamFang's Den

; A peculiarly easy dungeon for any group of beginners. Consisting mostly of wolves, elite in status. The dungeon route is rather straightforward, consisting of three long hallways conjoined at the ends of each before meeting a large room where GleamFang himself awaits.

Arathea Ruins

; Amongst the ruins Arathea has been found as one of the largest. Guarded heavily by goblins and trolls, there is unfortunately little information about the depths they protect. However, the entrance can be found carved into a hill, lined with etched stone.

Deathgrin Mountains

However, the world does not stop only with these highlands. Far beyond the south lies treacherous mountains, ones that would peak even beyond Mount Everest. The roughness in terrain brings about an inhospitably harsh region, as the blizzards seemingly never end at the peaks. Many caves are found within this area, each leading to an unnavigable maze within. There are two towns, one carved into the northern face of a mountain, and another built within one of the vast caverns. It is said that these mountains mark the 'edge of the map' as they are presumingly untraversable. However, in truth it has merely never be witnessed, as even the creators refused to release this information.

The Great Ocean

To the west is the ocean, a vast body of water that is home to many islands, most of tropic nature. Storms are a common occurrence beyond so many nautical miles, however this does not ward away it's beauty. As, just like the lakes, it holds a crystal-like clarity allowing individuals to see into the depths until there is only blackness. It is said there is in fact seven towns within the vastness that is the ocean, whether stationed upon an island, or built atop the waters surface in some outlandish fashion. Beyond the ocean is another land, one which is unknown and left for the players to discover.

The Skyless Plains

To the north lies the plains, where one can see for many miles ahead without interruption. It is said that buried dungeons are strewn about within this region. It is perhaps the most hospitable zone, seeing as roads are frequent. Multiple villages, towns, and even castles can be found within this region leading most to build their homes within it. However, even on the clearest of nights no stars can be seen above, leaving this as perhaps the darkest zone when the sun is missing. During the days, the skies are often filled with light clouds as if to prepare for an evening rain.

The Scorched Desert

Further to the north, past the plains, lay the desert. Their terrain is unbalanced, rolling from high dunes straight into seemingly endless canyons. Not only is the heat the enemy, but the desert itself seems to be built to ward off adventures. As such, most tend to avoid it.

Lands reside even within the skies, far above the Skyless Plains hidden away by the clouds. Only during certain weather conditions can one witness the base of these floating islands from the world below, unknowing to the additional climates far above. Within these islands one can find lakes, rivers, forests, and everything else one could possibly imagine. Their elevations are never quite matching, resulting in plains that could stand over highlands. Beyond them are floating masses of rocks that one can only call 'floating mountains'.

New Information: Weapon options

Weapon Choice System

One will find that adventurers are always readily equipped before stepping into the great unknown. This includes even those who are freshly beginning their journey. Upon reaching the gates you find many storefronts and stands lining the roadways, eagerly waiting for adventurers both arriving and departing. For all new adventurers they allow a single pass, if you accept their job they will bestow you with free equipment for your journey. However, you will find that this free gift is nothing more than left-overs, scraps and pieces of wear. Nevertheless, choose wisely, as this pass will bring light upon your new future. Whether it be that of a gladiator, the shadows of a ninja, or perhaps even the arcane enlightenment which is Magic.

What this means.

You're options will be limitless, within reason of course. Be wary, for what you create may be turned against you one day. However, here is the standard breakdown of what you may be capable of.

Fist Weaponry

  • Content with your might, you choose to strike down enemies with your own martial prowess.

Blade Weaponry

  • You prefer the basics, taking a sword in hand, normally accompanied by a shield. The length of the blade offers quick movements.

Blunt Weaponry

  • An excellent one handed weapon, meant to club those gobs with the heavy blow.

Pole Weaponry

  • Wishing to gain more balance with your weaponry, you take up the short spear. It's reach is a lovely compliment to the shield.

Ranged Weaponry

  • Elegant, and with good sight you choose the bow. It's arced form shall serve you nicely for a ranged kill.

Defensive Armaments

  • It the standard defensive armament, you reach for it, knowing what you must protect.

Sorcerer Weaponry

  • A common tool used for wizardry, you are not limited to a single school. You feel oddly inclined to scream 'none shall pass'.

There is nothing listed the fits me..

You're options will be limitless, within reason. The few locked weapons, as you can probably see all deal with gunpowder. This is due to the fact that weaponry will be evolving throughout the RP. If you want something specifically, announce it. After all, we can not go on listing every single weapon in the known universe.

It still seems... Limiting?

Go back, and try again. You may wield any combination of the weaponry. This means feel free to wield a claw in one hand, and a mace in the other if you so choose. Have fun with it. The only rule is you get one primary, and one off-hand. If you choose a weapon that is classified as a two-hander, then you are very well stuck with your choice. However, you can always go back to town and take up a new weapon style of your choice.

Update! 10:10PM 2/16

So what Classes am I looking at? What can I be?

There is no plans for a class system, and there probably never will be. As this states another player could be exactly like you, and you are not allowed to complain due to the limited nature. Just focus on having fun, everything else is our job.

However, the standardized roles will take effect (At least within the common population). Tank, Damage, Healer, and Controller. This is because plate mail will always be better than cloth of equal nature. 'Equal Nature' because a mage may very well appear that is just godly talented with defensive magics. Hence, he would be a Mank... Or... Whatever you would call that weird mix.... Darn paladins..

Tank; Generally a heavily armored individual made to soak up damage, and maintain hate on the enemies as to keep the squishier allies alive.

Damage; Those meant to deal massive damage, but have no real ability to take the hits.

Healer; Those who neither take hits, nor deal them but instead heal.

Controller; Those who forcibly control the battle to flow to their teams benefit. This includes buffs, kiting, binds, slows, and possibly even field awareness.

However; Once again, these are just annoying roles meant to limit one. Go be a claw wielding psychopath with extraordinary healing powers whilst using an arcane glove, because why not? Changing weaponry does not alter your current stats. So switch between as often as you like, just be sure that you visit the town to change out your gear!

Take note: There will be special traits that one can unlock which brings me to the next topic,

On the Subject of...Skills

There is no set list of skills that you have to use within common battle. The point within this game world is to build your own player skills (Weapon Proficiency and the like). However, you will come to notice that you are capable of learning these a lot faster within this world, so long as that skill has a strong tie to your character. Build your character as you wish, their is no set build to make your life easier.

However, there is a number of skills that you can only gain through alternative means. Here is a short list of skills that you will come to find, that I don't mind spoiling.

Mount; You blow upon a whistle, though no sound can audibly be heard from the instrument you hear something approaching. Before you appears your trusty mount! (Mounts will vary in size, shape, color, species, and personality..... Just... Don't get eaten alright?)

Flight; Flight has been unleashed upon the world, now the skies are no longer a limit!

Gunpowder; The ages are advancing! New findings have been made as a ship arrives at the shores. Arise, the age of gunpowder!

Beast Master; Your bond with beasts have grown, keeping the affection of one, you are sure to never be alone!

Metamorphosis; No longer do you feel 'human' matches your soul. Soon you will be changing to never see humanity again.

On the Subject of...Levels

There are rather major plans when it comes to level, and not a single one is how you think. Within this world, level will probably barely matter on how you play. They will not come with stat increases, they will not improve your life.

As such, levels will work in a unique way. Your level will directly reflect the amount of World Events you have completed (Which will level every adventurer within the land). There is only one way of leveling beyond that, and that is when your character undergoes a life changing moment. This will be your tool and your drive to proceed in character development. Level like your life depends on it, because for all you know, it probably does.

But no, every time you die you will lose a level. If you die at level 1, you will become level 0. If you die at level 0, well, you will find out.

On the Subject of...Items

Items will mostly follow the standard pattern.

Health Pots; There will be multiple levels of health potions, which will heal your wounds upon drinking. (Self-Use item)

Health Crystal; These are more potent than health potions, as well contain an altered form.

Party Health Crystal;

This is a crystal that will heal your party, within the general area of course.

Mana Pots; These potions replenish your magical energy. If you wanna keep casting, keep on chugging! (Now in blueberry!)

Party Mana Crystal;

This is a crystal that will replenish the mana of your party members within the general area.

Teleportation Crystal; Using this crystal will return you to the town of your choice. Merely vocalize the name, and you shall go. (Note, return, you must visit the location before.)

Grand Teleport Crystal:

This crystal will allow the user to return to the town of their choice, whilst pulling party members for the ride. Just state your destination, and you are probably already there. (Even if a party member has not been to the location, they will be brought.)

Throwing Weapons; These include but are not limited to, knives, javelins, darts, axes. Make sure to retrieve them!

If you want to know something specific, ask. Material drops will be a thing, just as crafting will be integrated. Random items like cups will also be present, however these will not be listed.

On the Subject of...Reputation

That is actually something that we are currently debating on. Perhaps we will integrate a Reputation system within the level system to give it a little more meaning. However, do not expect much. For now, know that NPCs will regard you differently for the feats you accomplish, and the quests you complete for the town.

The Incantation System

One should know that the magics are a mysterious thing, one that should be impossible to manipulate and control. It's power is unpredictable in it's raw state, resulting in further steps being required before one may manifest this overpowering torrent of energy. Welcome, to the pride that allows even the impossible to be controlled, the Incantation System.

Incantations

Incantation, as you know, is the use of words as a spell. Without them, your magic is shapeless and holds no will to act. However, if one comes to learn the incantations by heart they will find that their power is limitless. Do keep in mind though, the bigger the spell, the longer the incantation. This means, if you wish to bring a massive spell upon another's head, you need a fair amount of time. As well, though the incantation may be delayed with silence, if focus is broken the spell will shatter.

How it is perceived aka the Spell Aid system

(Based upon the magics seen within ALfheim)

When one wields an item imbued with the magics, for example a staff, all they must do is tilt the staff away from themselves (as if in attack position) to deploy the magic circle. At eye level of the caster a line of text will appear, each an individual word listing the available segment of an incantation. When one is spoken, the word will glow brightly, all others dimming before dissipating, only for a second line to appear in much the same fashion. Step by step they will build the incantation before releasing the spell in any fashion they so choose. Whether it be swinging the magic instrument, yelling 'release', or banging their staff on the ground whilst giving a nasty stare.

If one comes to chain too many spells, they will find that the incantation shall begin to wrap around the caster. When this occurs, some may find it difficult to make use of the Spell Aid system (The Glowing and Fading of words). However, with enough mental practice one may come to choose where the symbols of incantation remain, though it has no effect on the spell itself. If one finds themselves lacking in mental patience, the same can be done by using a free hand, forcibly sending the words off with swings.

Execution of Magic

As you now know, magic within this world is utilized by incantations. However, what are these incantations, and what exactly are they doing? You know that there are multiple fragments within an incantation that you must choose, but what is it that they produce? Understanding this is how one may commence in the execution of the art known as Magic.

The Weaving of your spell

To begin, one must first understand the order of incantation.

Magic Type -> Method of Casting --> Property ---> Effect

This is the order in which one will use to craft their spells, first selecting a magic type, then a method of casting following it's property, and then finally the effect it will have.

+Magic Types

The magic type is the very base of any incantation. This is the first line one must choose once beginning, which will practically define what the spell is. The known magic types within this world are as followed;

Fire:

Fire, the first of the basic four Elements. Without instruction it is an element that will burn those effected. It is from this school that one will find explosions, meteors, walls of fire, and complete devastation. However, Fire can not be directly manipulated.

Air:

Air, the second of the basic four Elements. Without instruction there is little effect, so be certain your incantation of this element is complete. From this school one may find the world as if it's their playground. Their spells can be found quick, as well invisible when formed with the bare minimal amount of magic. However, Air can not be created.

Water:

Water, the third basic Element. Without instruction it will flood, regardless of the mana you put into it. Their spells can be found flowing (no pun intended), in the means that the magic can continuously will manipulated after creation without expanding the original mana cost. However, Water can not be directly cast through touch. The incantation of 'water' may be substituted for 'ice'

Earth:

Earth, the fourth and final basic Element. Without instruction it will collapse or fall. It is within this school that one may reshape the land for as long as their mana holds firm. They may build walls, and bridges, however this element has the highest consumption rate of mana. Don't hold your spells for too long! When the spell is no longer channeled it will resort to it's basic instruction, collapse. However, Earth can not be projected.

Black:

Black Magic is the first of the two magics labeled as 'Arcane'. This is due to it's unpredictable nature, and it's plethora of outcomes when mixed with other magics, including itself. From the magic we come to find Necromancy, Shadow Manipulation, Curses, Life Leach, Corrosion, Manipulation, and many others. It seems to rely less on the incantation itself, and more on the user's perception on what each phrase means. It is also referred to as 'Death, Plague, Darkness, and Void.'

Aether:

Aether Magic is the second 'Arcane' Magic, and equally unpredictable. It is also referred to as 'Life, Creation, Holy, Light, Spirit'. It is within this school that one will find healing, as well buffing magics. No one really understands whether or not this magic truly obeys the incantation alone, as some individuals are incapable of achieving the same results as other even with the same incantation. Perhaps it is affected by the soul of the caster itself?

+Method of Casting

The Method of Casting can also be seen as where the spells originates. Each consume mana in different quantities and ways to bring about your incantation.

Create:

Creation is the act of forming the element out of pure mana, anywhere you so choose. Within the sky, or below the ground, this is what you would choose if you desire an area to bestow your magics. Due to having to transfer your mana to a location before bestowing a form, this is perhaps the most initially consuming when it comes to mana.

Project:

Project is the act of casting away from the caster. Whether in a cone, or a nova around the individual. This is the more direct form of creation, though using mana within close proximity you find it less tolling.

Touch:

Touch is the act of casting upon contact. Whether it be an enchanted blade striking, or your palm meeting the ground or individual. This is perhaps the cheapest Method when it comes to casting. However, it puts you in danger due to it's range.

Manipulate:

Manipulation is the act of using an element that is already present within the proximity to do your will. It is the cheaper alternative to creation. However, know that so long as you manipulate an element, it will continuously drain your mana at a rate depending on the size.

+Property

The Property of a spell is the means of how your magic will be carried out. Without it your spell is given a starting point with no destination.

Bullet:

The property Bullet dictates that your magic will launch your concentration of magic in a certain direction. Empowering this Property makes whatever you are hurling fly faster initially. However, bullet can not be applied via touch directly. (If used with project and fire, you will create a fireball.)

Spread:

The property Spread dictates that your magic will splay out in the general directions of your choosing. They do not hold the power nor distance of a bullet, however sheer coverage could make the difference. The more it is empowered, the wider the spread. (If used with project and fire, you will create Fire breath)

Remain:

The property Remain dictates that your magic will hold firm, keeping the magic in an area of your choosing. Be wary, as this action carries like manipulation and will continuously consume mana until released. However, you do not need to maintain focus for it to continue. (If used with project and Fire, you will probably create orbs of fire that encircle the caster to ward off melee attackers. )

Erupt:

The property Erupt dictates your magic will immediately form within it's element, lasting only a short moment. However, manipulation magic can not come to erupt. As the element already exists and does not need to suddenly be birthed. (If used with project and Fire, you will create Fire Blast)

+Effect

The effects is perhaps the last step taken within an incantation, as nothing can truly be done without causing an effect. As if you sling a fireball, upon collision you may find that your target only has a few burns.

Consume:

Consume is the act of devouring individuals caught within the spell. It is this that brings curses to the playing field. (If cast with Fireball, you will find that your target is ignited upon impact.)

Pierce:

Pierce is the act of going through individuals caught within the spell, by force if it must. (If cast with Fireball, you will find that the form is now much like a spear. It's damage will be concentrated, however will not do much further damage without a chain. Try using it with Ice!)

Disperse:

Disperse is the act of dispersing your magic upon it's the spell's arrival. In short, this is an explosion of power. It can not be used with spread by standard means. (If cast with Fireball, you will find that it will explode on impact.)

Magic Type Fire Air Water | Ice Earth Black Aether
Method Create ------ Project ------ Touch ------ Manipulate ------
Property Bullet ---- Spread ---- Remain ---- Erupt ----
Effect Consume ---- Pierce ---- Disperse ----

Chain!

So you went through your full incantation, however you find that the results were not quite how you hoped. And though there are a number of results, it still feels limiting. Have you tried using the incantation 'Chain' in place of one of your phrases?

'Chain' allows the caster to begin a new series of commandments upon their incantation to bring about a higher level of spells. You wish for a ring of fireballs to cast out on location that will explode in hellfire igniting the entire area? Make use of spell Chains!

Empower!

You spent so much time building your spell, but upon release, it was nothing more than a small dart that made an awkward poof sound. Well, chances are you used the bare minimal mana throughout the entire thing, didn't you? Beginners mistake. Be sure to Empower your words with your mana pool. The more mana you use to empower a single segment, the stronger the result. If you use all of it on a 'bullet', you may very well fire a laser beam... Do be careful...

Now you are probably wondering, well, how do I empower a segment of the incantation? Unlike a chain, one does not add a phrase to the incantation, instead you merely have to be able to grasp your mana flow correctly. Make sure you take time to learn, seeing as you came fresh from the Rift, I doubt you have any idea on how mana handles.

I don't see magic that I like...

Chances are likely that you simply missed it.. Our Incantation system is built to cover a vast area by beginning with the basics. Just try and think of what makes up the ability you are wanting to display, and begin engineering it! However, if by chance something is missing that you wanted and can not find how to build, let us know!

Want to know how to summon a falling meteor? (Providing you have the mana for it!)

Fire -> Create --> Erupt ---> Consume ----> Chain! -----> Earth ------> Project -------> Bullet --------> Disperse

This will create a ball(Erupt) of fire that will consume an earthen projectile (Project) that will explode (Disperse) on impact (Bullet). Want to make it more devastating?

Disperse ---------> Chain! ----------> Fire -----------> Touch ------------> Spread ------------> Disperse

With this addition, the meteor will now explode in a Wave (spread) of Fire upon collision (touch)

Nice to hear and thanks for rating Sir Valentine

@Otakuyaki

I'm still finishing up some basic location information and some other stuff at the moment but, I figured I'd throw the idea out there to see if any others would be interested in the idea.

I'm sorry, didn't mean to rush you. Works take time to come to fruition. c:

Much appreciated I like yours as well.

@Otakuyaki

Thanks for understanding, I'm working with a friend on this and we've just started to make up a spell incantation system for magic within the world.

So we are hoping to go pretty in depth with everything, hopefully it'll all turn out well ^-^

If you ever need help or support, just ask. As a programmer and game developer(by hobby-- strictly private hobby), I am really interested in this idea. Hopefully, I will be just as invested in the actual roleplay.

@Lana Valentine

I will be stalking this thread to see when updates occur. IF you are making your own system of things then there is no way Im not gonna join.
