Fantasy The Debt and The Price - a dark fantasy setting

Bunesh

Filled with DETERMINATION
So this idea is the result of me being a total fracking weeb and playing a lot of vidya games. You can have your own primary 'main' character though I'm sort of angling them to be the ex-princess' sibling OR parent (either gender). If you've read 'rise of the shield hero' you kinda know where I'm going with this - to a degree. We would share any additional characters, also I role-play in prose and would prefer a partner who can do the same. I wouldn't mind this being a long-term RP as well. Pairings open to anything, and this is very LGBTQ friendly, so don't worry about that c:

To say it was snowing was to make a vast understatement, a closer statement would be to say that it was a blizzard. For the guards of the royal army, however - who had been standing in this frozen misery for the better half of two hours - it felt more succinct to say that the gods of winter had agreed to gang-fuck this particular stretch of land like it was the only girl in the port.

They had made jokes that they shouldn't piss outside as it might get frozen to their dicks, but now some were wondering if that wasn't so much of a joke now as much as it was a legitimate and very real concern. That alone warranted caution, nevermind the fact that no man wanted to suffer frostbite in a delicate place, and have to write home to explain to their husband or wife how their masculine pride had fallen off due to the thrice-damned cold.

The great roaring fires that dotted the battle camps helped, but those fires had to be fed, and nobody in their right mind wanted to go away from the heat - even if it was to collect wood to ensure the heat remained - and so they ended up having to draw lots to see who the sorry bastards were. The only ones immune to this was the damned mages, who would have thought that those accursed spellslingers would actually get protected from something like this? Most folk burdened with the curse of magic ended up disowned and borderline enslaved by the state as weapons of war.

Magic was feared and rightfully so, the power and destruction that spellcasters could sew had been seen in enough battlefields to warrant a very real concern about what would happen if they were allowed to wander free. Beyond that, every child had heard at least one tale of a mad wizard gaining power and unleashing doom upon a hapless nation, stories which were always presented as historical fact, regardless of any truth to it.

Normally Mages were shunned and faced discrimination, but this was a rare circumstance where their status actually shielded them, as they were considered too valuable to be wasted on something like gathering wood. Magic amongst the civilized races - be it elf, orc, humans, goblin, gnome or beastfolk was rare enough that they couldn't just sell the lives of their mages willy-nilly.

For as much as the public feared and hated them, their magic was also quite needed in war, especially in this one; the war against the Lunatics.

Apparently, some formless mass of teeth, tentacles, orifices, and eyes had appeared somewhere in the Northlands - a place outside the Empire's control - and the locals had begun to worship the damned thing. It had granted them strange abilities of both the magical and more... mundane mutative variety, but at the cost of driving them all insane. Now the crazy bastards had surged outwards to the surrounding lands in some kind of mob-crazed 'Holy War' to 'spread The Gospel of The True God' or some other nonsense, but it was the kind of preaching that came at the end of a sword.

The Lunatics and their hoard of abominations had inflicted massive casualties, forcing a response from the Empire, which had led to this battle here, with a couple of hills between the two camps. If they could break the lunatics here, that would buy them time to formulate a proper response and drive into Northlander territory to kill their 'God'. Of course, the odds of keeping whatever lands they would take were slim to none; the cost was too high for such little profit, who the hell knew how these damned barbarians survived out in this ice-blasted waste, but they did.

It was confirmed that at least a few Royals were here to oversee the battle with their generals, which wasn't a big surprise in and of itself, but the real juicy story was that apparently, the former princess was here too. A young woman, born into authority and prestige, her title had gone to her head and transformed her into a right little terror, one that inflicted herself upon her poor suffering handmaidens and servants. Stories of her abuses were as legendary as they were exaggerated - as stories involving the royal family always were - but she had done some act that had been a step too far.

Some said she accused a young nobleman of falsely deflowering her, another claimed that she had been found in carnal acts with any number of beasts, and still more said that she had murdered someone. The most likely story, however, was that her long years of tormenting her family and their subjects had reached a breaking point with her doing something that pushed it all too far.

Regardless.

Princess Selana had been stripped of her title, her name and if stories were true, even her clothes, ladened with a debt to repay the royal subjects and her own family for the misery, destruction, and shame she had brought upon them. The details of exactly who had inflicted this though varied, some said her elder sibling who was the heir to the throne, others said it was her mother the queen and still others swore it was the king himself. Regardless, it was agreed that she had been forced into the military, engaging in the most deadly and dangerous conflicts some nine years ago, shortly before the Lunatics began their assault.

But what did the ex-princess look like now? And what family members were here to assist with the battle? How would that little bit play out?

-----

So this is the setup! I'd be playing the ex-princess who is using the name 'Mask' and while my partner would be anyone i'm strongly leaning for them being one of the royals for interaction sake. Of course characterization, worldbuilding, lore building and more are totally open and you can add anything you wish. So... who's interested?
