Abilities: Laurie has the ability to hack into the DNA of a person, specifically the genes that code for p53, a protein responsible for fixing mutations in a cell or triggering cell death. as a result, upon making skin-on-skin contact with another, Laurie can kill off any cancerous cells. additionally, they can undifferentiate cells, so if someone's stomach is damaged, for example, they could turn the nearby blood cells into stomach lining cells and patch up the wound. of course, this is very toiling and has a physical effect on Laurie.

Basics
Name: Yang Lan-zhu [杨兰珠]
Alias: Otohime
Age: Early 30s
Gender: Female
Moral Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Place of Birth: Coast City (presumed)
Civilian Occupation: Bartender/manager
Years Active: ~5 years since she got her powers, but hasn't been much of a superhero (or vigilante) until now

Appearance:
Lan-zhu is a tall (almost 6 feet), slim Chinese woman with olive skin and black hair (dyed with a few blue streaks) that she generally wears tied into a low ponytail. She often dresses sharply but not ostentatiously, with either slacks and dress shirts or the more...exotic outfits of her workplace often making up her wardrobe. Portions of her body that have become stretched or malleable due to her powers become noticeably translucent with a grey tint to them.

Personality
Brief Summary:
Lan-zhu has what some would describe as a big-sisterly demeanor, showing a notable protectiveness towards her younger coworkers and the other inhabitants of the section of Coast City's Chinatown she lives in. While she doesn't look to escalate confrontation, she has a tendency to put herself in the line of fire and force herself to solve other people's problems relying on her own strength as much as possible.

Fears:
It's been a few years since her current life began, but she's still worried about her past catching up to her and losing the people and places she loves. More recently, large bodies of water have become a concern too.

Origins
Backstory:
Little exists about the woman known as Yang Lan-zhu on the official record, but signs point to her being a low-level smuggler subordinate to local Triad elements as far back as 7 years ago, during the start of the Batman's reign. The rise of the ruthless, sophisticated vigilante left organized criminals across the city scrambling to adapt through various means. One of the bosses had gotten their hands on an experimental mutagen which had been lifted from a biological lab overseas. Desperate to mount a defense against the Batman and similar vigilantes that had powers or tech of their own, the boss administered the mutagen indiscriminately towards the thugs they had under their command, including Lan-zhu.

Many survived, though few gained powers and transformations that they could control for the use of the criminal empire. Lan-zhu was not so lucky. By all appearances, she seemed to begin to melt and dissolve at a rapid rate, barely able to scream before her voice was replaced by incoherent gurgling. The grey, fluid mass she turned into easily washed down the drain of the lab, and she was never heard from again...or so it would seem.

Lan-zhu woke up some time later on the shores near where Ziyu, the owner of a local bar called Satori was walking by. The older woman took her in and nursed her back to health, in return for having her work at Satori.

Satori had long served as neutral ground for various members of the city's underbelly. But in response to the escalation of vigilante activity, some criminals had tried to get Satori involved, whether as a storehouse for smuggled goods, a site of money laundering, or a place to stash stolen loot. It was during a scuffle with one such "customer" that Lan-zhu regained control of her power, her arm elongating and striking him like a whip as she kicked him out on his rear.

Since then, Lan-zhu has taken over as the onsite manager of Satori, living and working in the building while protecting it from exploitation. Her life has maintained an uneasy balance up till today, but with the power vacuum resulting in the disappearance of the Batman, she may have to start taking the fight to them...

Extra
Abilities:

Slime Physiology:
From the mutagen, Lan-zhu has gained the ability to alter the shape and cohesion of her body manifesting as a grey, slime like substance. While she cannot turn her entire body into another shape or maintain another person's appearance for long, she can stretch, bend, and stick at superhuman capacity. At the most extreme of her current capabilities, she can dissolve into a mass of amorphous fluid that can slither rapidly and fit into tight spaces. In addition, the mutation has made her highly durable, as not only can her biomass resist dismemberment, piercing, or impact, but her only remaining vital organ is a dense "core" around the size of a fist, which she usually keeps in her chest. As long as the core remains intact, she can regenerate when consuming biomass.

However, the core has very little mobility on its own, and her biomass, being composed of watery matter, is rather weak to energy-based attacks like extreme heat or electricity. Furthermore, her biomass is prone to dissipating if she is immersed in fluids that are hot or impure for too long, leaving the core intact.

Skills:
Familiarity with the operations of criminal enterprises like smuggling, drug manufacturing, and extortion
Hand to hand combat (trained under Ziyu)
Picked up business management skills from running the bar
Not a bad dancer

Weight: 220 Lbs
Distinguishing Features: Scar going down his right arm, usually hidden by long sleeves
Build: Broad, beefy and stocky

Easy to talk to and enthusiastic, many feel a general warmth and comfort around him as he is, by many standards, a “people person”. Politically, he is ruthless and efficient. Fears: Chaos, instability, claustrophobia

Origins

Backstory:
While his origins were unknown, it is known that he appeared in the political scene and the public eye roughly 8 years ago as a public servant, rising through the ranks absurdly and frighteningly quick. He proved to be an incredibly popular figure as he resonated with the public and their ideals, even changing the minds of the people through fiery speeches and passionate addresses. It wasn’t long until he became Mayor of Arkham City by the age of 28, many believe that it was him that, with the cooperation of “The Batman”, began lifting Arkham City from its status as a cesspool of crime. Now without The Batman, he intends to prove he can save the city from disorder and chaos.

Height: 5’6”

Weight: 140 Ibs

Distinguishing features: Wears a special fabric mask that have black and white colors that are two plastic membranes with fluids between them, and the fluid moves similar to a lava lamp. The mask symbolizes his view on ethics and morality.

Roarsach had a athletic build, he often wears old timer clothes including fedoras and long brown jackets, often wearing brown, almost similar to a man who works in the office or a businessman of sorts.

Personality
Roarsach only sees black and white. No shades of grey. Only good and evil. Roar each is a man who believes that evil needs to be violently punished. Often difficult to make friends with him, he trusts no one but himsef, and takes a long and strong relationship for him to trust someone. He’s driven and doesn’t give up easily, though he is also quite violent and complex, often taking the law into his hands, and often killing the guilty.

Fears-
Roarsach fears sexual romance, having trauma from his mothers life as a prostitute, often abusing him. He fears it. He thinks it’s disgusting and uncomfortable with intimacy.

Orgins
Backstory:

Rorschach was a child who grew up in a hellish abomination of a home.

His mother was a prostitute. He was bullied at school by those who were bigger and richer than he was. One day, he attacked the bully by biting him and rubbing a lit cigarette in his eye.

That was his first criminal offence. He soon began to think about the ethnicity of the world. While at a laundry mat (where he worked), he saw a dress with a black blob that continuously changed. He was intrigued by it and took it home. He used the ever-changing fabric to create his mask, his disguise for his alter ego, Walter Kovacs. He fought with Nite Owl and other vigilantes. All was good.

Soon he investigated a kidnapping of a young girl. He went to the kidnapper's house and found that the girl was killed and fed to the man's dogs. When the kidnaper came home, Rorschach was waiting for him. He handcuffed him to a water heater and set the house on fire. As a final punishment, he gave the kidnapper a choice to cut off his arm to save himself. The house went up in flames and Rorschach watched.

That was when he started to change. He no longer saw Rorschach as an alter ego, but saw Walter Kovacs as a mask for his true identity. He began to call his mask 'his face' and would reference that he took his face off to hide himself.

That was the day the Kovacs died and Rorschach was born.

Basics
Name:
Cordelia Owens
Alternative Name(s): Goes by Cora for short
Alias: Phantasm
Age: 22
Gender: Female
Moral Alignment: Neutral Good
Place of Birth: ???
Civilian Occupation: Currently unemployed. Steals from wealthy people she deems bad to get by at the moment
Years Active: 0. Brand new on the scene. Has only been active for a few weeks

Appearance
Height:
5’7
Weight: 140 lbs.
Description: Cordelia is a very average looking woman; nothing about her particularly stands out, save for her intensely deep gray eyes, which always seem to have dark circles under them. Her skin tone is a warm beige, and her hair is auburn in color. Her hair is wavy in texture and fails to her shoulders, but she typically wears it in a high ponytail or messy bun with side swept bangs. She is approximately average height with an athletic build similar to that of female kickboxers.
Day to day, she doesn’t wear anything that sticks out too much, and her typical manner of dress can be described as casual streetwear with a slight grunge-punk flair. No matter the temperature, she can always be seen wearing long sleeves, and prefers to dress in layers.
As a vigilante, she wears a practical bodysuit made with protection in mind, and a Kevlar-lined slim fitted jacket with a hood over it to provide additional protection to her vitals. She wears a full-face mask to hide her identity. Her color scheme is primarily black and gray, with a bit of teal.

Personality
Brief Summary:
Standoffish and guarded, it isn’t easy to get to know the real Cordelia. She mostly keeps to herself, avoiding most forms of social interaction and is generally untrusting and always on edge. Despite her outwardly cynical attitude, once one gets to know her they can see she’s also witty, intelligent, and sensitive, with a teasingly sarcastic sense of humor, but has a bit of a stubborn streak and a tendency to argue. However, it takes no less than a metaphorical battering ram to bring down the walls she’s built around herself. In action, she’s normally calculating and perceptive, adaptable and great at thinking on her feet, but she can sometimes be daring and impulsive in the heat of the moment.
Vices:
  • High-Functioning Alcoholic: Cordelia relies heavily on alcohol to deal with her problems. While she usually doesn’t get more than buzzed in public, she does drink quite a bit at home in private. She likes that it makes her feel numb, and finds that it helps quiet down her powers and avoid dealing with her trauma. Still, she never lets her addiction get in the way of her work and most people probably wouldn’t even ever know she’s an alcoholic
  • PTSD: She has gone through many traumatic events in her past, and has not been coping with them in any healthy way, whether that be through alcohol or bottling up her feelings and ignoring them. It tends to get in the way of both her day-to-day life and vigilantism sometimes, manifesting in various ways including flashbacks, panic attacks, nightmares, or paranoia. It has also led her to suffering from depression and anxiety as well
  • Standoffish: She purposefully pushes people away and has done her best to avoid making any real social ties. Yet, she’s still lonely deep inside and longs for at least a few people she can call friends
Virtues:
  • Integrity with Powers: When it comes to using her telepathy, Cordelia has a lot of integrity and a bit of a moral code in regards to how she uses them. She tries to only use them when they’re useful to her role as a vigilante, and she does her best to never intentionally use them on her friends or allies. She considers it wrong and a breach of privacy, but sometimes people’s thoughts are so loud that she accidently overhears anyway
  • Dependable: If you ask something of her, she will go out of her way, even to the detriment of herself sometimes, to make sure the job gets done properly, one way or another
Fears: Whatever it is she’s hiding from. Desperately wants a chance to live a decent life and do good, but is afraid that will never be able happen. Also struggles with physical contact outside of combat and training. Hospitals put her on edge and she tends to avoid them at all costs. Physical restraints of any kind will usually throw her into a panic.

Origins
Backstory:
Cordelia Owens first arrived in Arkham a little over two years ago. At the time, she had nothing to her name and was living on the streets, homeless. Where exactly she came from, no one knows. There’s no official record of her anywhere, and by all accounts it’s like she appeared out of thin air. For the next 8 or so months, she drifted around living an aimless existence with survival being her only real goal. After a while though, she gradually got it in her head that she wanted to do something good with her life, especially after witnessing the crime and depravity so prevalent in the lowest levels of Arkham. With her options limited, she decided she’d make herself into a vigilante. Her decision made, she scrounged up enough money to buy a private, dingy little apartment and begin building a life for herself. After that, she’s basically devoted all her time to training and planning her for her vigilante career, still sticking to the shadows and avoiding most people as much as possible, the closest thing to socialization being drinking alone in shady bars to keep an ear out on the streets. It was only a few weeks ago that she quietly made her debut as a vigilante, with only whispers and unconfirmed rumors of her presence. And despite being new to the scene has a vigilante, her skillset would highly imply she isn’t a complete amateur at what she does, but everything about her seems to indicate she’s hiding from something. What exactly that something might be, she refuses to reveal, and very little is known about who she is or where she came from.

Extras
Abilities:
Cordelia is a low-level telepath. She mostly uses her powers to read the surface-level thoughts of her enemies in a fight, so she can always be a step ahead and give herself an edge in a fight. While it is possible for her to dive deeper into someone’s mind, it takes a lot more energy, concentration, and preparation, and often leaves her physical body incapacitated and vulnerable. The deeper she tries to go into someone’s mind, the more likely it is that they notice something is wrong, making it more difficult for her to continue or find anything useful. It’s also more difficult for her to get any sort of accurate reading on someone’s mind if that person knows what she is doing and doesn’t want her in there. She can use her powers to detect the presence of nearby lifeforms, and help to slightly mask her own presence, lending to her stealth. She is also able to create minor and temporary illusions in a person’s mind, such as making it seem like she is a foot to the left of where she actually is in a fight. She can alter minor details in a person’s recent memory as well. The more she uses her powers, however, the more physically and mentally draining it is on her.

Skills: Cordelia is skilled in hand to hand combat, in the form of mixed martial arts, and has also trained in gymnastics. Her fighting style mostly relies on speed, agility, and precision. Arguably one of her strongest skillsets is her intelligence and knack for strategy, making her a very apt tactician; she wins her fights by outthinking and outmaneuvering her opponents. She’s extremely intelligent, bordering on genius intellect (no surprise there, given her powers are mind-based). She’s knowledgeable when it comes to tech, and is capable of effectively using a variety of weapons and gadgets. She’s fluent in a wide variety of languages, and has at least some level of understanding in many more. Despite her antisocial tendencies, she’s shockingly good at adapting to different social situations as necessary. She knows all the proper etiquette, even when it comes to socializing with the elite and upper class, making her a very good actor. Also has a fair amount of medical knowledge and skills, including setting broken bones and stitching up wounds.

Equipment: Currently all she has is her Phantasm suit, which is specifically designed to be both protective and flexible. Her mask has a small, compact built-in respirator designed to help protect against hazardous airborne matter such as fumes and smoke. Goggles built into the mask help adjust lighting to make lowlight vision more visible. Though her equipment is currently limited, she’s looking to expand her arsenal in the future.

Weaknesses: Pushing herself too far and overusing her abilities can result in various negative effects including confusion, weakness, headaches, nausea, vomiting, nosebleeds, fainting, and more. Large crowds can also overwhelm her powers and make her sick, even when she isn’t intentionally using them. Although she has strong mental fortifications against other telepaths, she is vulnerable to the effects of telepathic and psychic abilities, so if one were to invade her mind they could cause severe damage. Looking too long or diving too far into the mind of someone who is insane can cause damage to her own mind. Her PTSD sometimes gets in the way of her vigilantism and daily life. As a new vigilante, she also lacks experience.

Name: Lucas Moringi

Alias: Gestalt

Age: 18

Gender: Male

Moral Alignment: Neutral Good

Place of Birth: Arkham City

Civilian Occupation: Unemployed, though works as a volunteer for various humanitarian and charitable organizations

Years Active: Zero; a mere three months since he’s started work as a vigilante.

Appearance:

Height : 5’8

Weight : 120 lbs

Distinguishing Features : A noticeably pallid (yet oddly cherubic) face, with dark bags under his amber eyes, which are also partially obscured by his strangely bright blond hair. When he is being controlled by Eris, his eyes become violet, to an excessive degree.

Build : He’s especially dainty and somewhat frail.

Personality

Lucas is an exceptionally optimistic young man who is always trying to find the best possible path to the best possible future. He’s quite amicable, being able to charm nearly everyone he meets with his demeanor of genuinity. Beyond all, Lucas is firmly devoted towards making the most out of the life he has been gifted, helping as many people as he can - especially his own loved ones and friends, who he is especially loyal to. Deep down, Lucas is also quite insecure about his position in the world, seeing himself as a useless burden who can only find meaning through living for the sake of others. Appropriately, he gains self-validation through solving other people’s problems and giving them happier lives, which often leads to him neglecting his own needs and desires. In fact, one of his greatest fears is coming off as being selfish or ungrateful, or otherwise disappointing the people he cares for - or even just seeing other people have a negative impression of him. In a sense, Lucas has a terrible hero complex, being obsessed with being the one to help out or save others around him.

In addition, due to Lucas' sheltered upbringing, he can be awfully naive and ignorant about the world around him, specifically in his belief that everyone is, deep down, a decent person who can be reasoned with.

Origins

Lucas was born to a family of vigilantes in Arkham City, all working just outside of the law in order to make the streets of the city just a bit safer. Lucas was the youngest of his siblings, and he was born premature and quite weak, a rarity for his family, all of whom were healthy (and most of whom had special abilities of their own). These health issues only got worse as he grew older, confining him to his bedroom for much of his life. While his older brothers were making a name for themselves as junior vigilantes, Lucas was stuck in his house, discontent and feeling woefully useless to his entire family. Things would only get worse when it was found out that Lucas was suffering from a terminal illness - he would not live to see adulthood.

Lucas was sixteen when he first stumbled across a strange artifact - a trinket that one of his brothers had taken from one his adventures. It was an onyx amulet - and it spoke to Lucas. In whispers at first, but the voice grew louder and more present in Lucas’s mind, to the point at which Lucas secretly took the amulet for his own in order to investigate the matter more intently.

Lucas would find out that the amulet carried a powerful spirit by the name of Eris, who used to be a young girl, though her soul ended up being trapped within the amulet and used by various groups and individuals for years. The amulet used Eris’ soul as a power source to grant wishes to its users. As the years went on, Eris became more and more misanthropic and cynical, growing to hate all of humanity for failing to save her from her plight and for constantly using her for her soul’s power. She also grew to long for her own demise, above all else, which she was unable to find due to being stuck in the amulet. Ultimately, however, Eris’ soul’s power ran out, and so did the power of the Amulet - the artifact was thus discarded and ended up in the hands of Lucas’ brother.

Lucas, against all odds, managed to befriend Eris, seeing her almost as the ultimate challenge to overcome : to see whether he could redeem an omnicidal demonic entity. While he didn’t quite succeed, Eris has grown to care about Lucas, at least to the extent that she now wants to show to Lucas why the world isn’t worth saving, and why it should simply be turned to ash - and themselves along with it.

Ultimately, this all came to ahead when Lucas was nearing the end of his short life. The duo came up with a plan to fulfill both of their wishes : for Lucas to keep on living and stop being “useless,” and for Eris to find a way for her to die and potentially gain vengeance on the world. Eris would “link” her soul to Lucas’ soul, giving Lucas’ soul a brand new power source and allowing him enough energy to live a normal, human life. Meanwhile, Eris’ soul would become bound to a mortal coil, meaning that she would also be capable of dying within a reasonable timespan. In order for the assortment to work, however, Lucas would need to keep the amulet on his person at all times, lest he would end up succumbing to his illness once more.

Being healed of his illness, Lucas leapt headfirst into making up for all the time he lost by participating in charitable groups and finally becoming a vigilante to live up to his family’s honor and expectations. Lucas, however, takes somewhat of a different approach than his family : intent to be liked by those he encounters, as well as intent on proving to Eris the redeemable nature of humanity, Lucas has vowed to try and talk to criminals and try and convince them away from their ways by helping them with the problems they may have in their lives.

Abilities: Bonded with the Amulet and Eris’ soul, Lucas has gained some of the artifact’s old powers. For instance, he is capable of projecting Eris’ spirit, which appears in the form of a young woman with black hair and violet eyes, into the world - either as an invisible force, or as a visible spector. Eris is able to interact with the physical world to some extent - at this point, she is projecting her voice, lifting small objects, pushing things about the weight of most adult humans around, and dealing enough concussive force to match the strength of a worse-than-average vigilante on the streets. When Eris is projected outward, she is connected to the amulet via a spectral string whose length is determined by the strength of the duo’s bond. In turn, Eris is capable of possessing Lucas’s body, at which point his eyes glow violet.

The amulet itself has also given Lucas the ability to grant those he comes into physical contact with a sense of euphoria, or happiness - almost like the effect of a drug, in that it can also be addictive in high magnitudes. This ability can be used to uplift people’s spirits and get them into a more cooperative mood, but it can also be cause people to lose focus or get lost in their own delirium. The more people experience this feeling, the more they tend to crave it. This ability manifests itself often in the form of happy or joyful memories that the person affected may remember, and so this ability works best in people with a glut of strong, happy memories.

Meanwhile, Eris has an ability that is nearly the exact mirror of Lucas’s ability. She has the power to sap the joy and happiness from people that she comes into contact with as a spirit, sharing with them some of the sorrow and grief that she has wracked up with all of her trauma. This grief can stun people, cause them to lose focus, or even cause them to break down into tears. The people affected by this ability also tend to lose some interest in whatever they were invested in previously. The sorrow caused by this ability often manifests itself in the form of sad memories, and so this ability works best in people with a lot of angst and misery in their lives or histories.

Weaknesses : The longer Lucas has Eris projected in spirit form, the more life-force gets drained from Lucas’ body. In addition, anytime Lucas uses his ability to spread euphoria, some of his own happiness and joy gets sapped out of him, roughly proportional to the amount he releases. Curiously, whenever Eris uses her ability, she actively saps the happiness from others, causing Lucas to feel a sense of perverse joy - thus causing Lucas to hardly ever use this ability of Eris’s at all.

Skills : Lucas is charismatic and capable of talking down people in a fight and allowing parties to come to an understanding with one another. Other than that, he lacks great skill in combat and mostly relies on Eris to incapacitate his foes long enough to get them into a conversation - or simply trying to knock them out if need be.
