BACKGROUND

Maxwell grew up at home with his father and one older brother. Maxwell's mom didn't stay at home and left the whole family behind for "bigger and better" things, having been found by a talent scout for the music industry when she was singing at a bar. It sounds weird but that was one of the ways the family had to cope before Maxwell was born. His brother remembers his mom well, but she left the family shortly after Maxwell was born so he never knew his mom. His father worked two jobs to keep the family afloat, and had tried to date other women after his ex wife left. His dad was a faithful man, he knew this from growing up watching him date other women. But these women didn't stick around for long. Some said their in-laws weren't supportive of the relationship, have too many differences between them to work, or the female has felt too pressured and wanted to retain her emotional well-being.

For a long time Maxwell's brother was dealing with depression, but he kept it a secret from everyone around him. One day, the police showed up at his home. His dad opened the door and asked if he could help them. That's when they broke the news. "We're sorry, but your son..." the cop turned her eyes to Maxwell. "...and your brother, has committed suicide." His world twisted upside down and inside out that day. Since then, he's felt that hole in his heart where his brother had been, sitting up late with him at night, teaching him how to play guitar, applauding him when he was able to play the dreaded F chord. His dad took up drinking after work, at first only one beer each night. Then gradually drank more as the months passed. He never got abusive, which was something Maxwell worried about. When he was old enough, he started applying for colleges to learn about music. That's how he got in to this school. He hopes to have a band to be the lead singer with all these songs he's writing about his own life and the lives of others he hears about. To give the people a voice who don't have a voice.
