strengths
He doesn't whine about shit, really, so that's something. Mason's good at accepting his hand in life and doing whatever he can to change it, and hardly blames others for the mistakes he himself has caused. Sure, he might not always be willing to admit this to others, but at least to himself he recognize his mistakes and attempt to grow from them.
weaknesses
He's -- generally -- rather scared and standoffish of most people, mostly because he assumes the worst. It means that he has a horrible time asking for any kind of help, and he'll just suffer and drown before he bothers ever asking someone to give him a hand in something. He has gotten better about it over the years, though.

Mason can be summed up in pretty much one phrase: bad boy.

He reeks of everything that makes a stereotypical bad boy -- bruised fists from fighting, sharp tongue, a cigarette constantly clenched between his teeth, a who cares who gets hurt kind of attitude. Basically, at first glance, Mason is an asshole and even at second or third glance, you'll probably just be taken aback by what an utter dick this guy can be.

It can be hard to find anything else to this rather harsh guy that's basically sandpaper. Or a cactus. However, somewhere deep within those layers of assholery, Mason can be a decent person. He tends to stick up for his family or people he cares about, but that often leads to push and shove which, more often than not, will end in a fight. Although Mason doesn't typically start fights, he has no problem finishing them and has quite the reputation at Ambridge for being the kind of guy that you do not want to wrong.

Mason's soft side is pretty much reserved for when he's with his daughter. Other than that, he comes off as harsh, critical, and, well, like a total dick. I know, I know, what a winner.

... Granted, despite the fact that he does appear to have every aspect of your stereotypical bad boy, Mason is actually quite far from an actual bad boy. He gets good grades (I'm talking like straight A's -- the guy isn't dumb by any means), sticks to the straight and narrow and doesn't generally get suspended or even receive detention (save for when his anger gets the best of him and he gets into it with someone on school property), and he doesn't steal, vandalize, or anything else that's even remotely illegal. Mason's way of life is to try and just be as overlooked as possible... by the police, anyway.

His harsh manner of speaking generally covers up the meaning behind his words but he does care deeply for his friends. He'll just never openly admit it to them and we'll instead make them think that they're totally, one hundred percent disposable -- and in a way, to Mason, they are. He has no qualms about dropping people that he thinks might endanger his brother, his daughter, or their home life in general.

Mason is, above all else, extremely loyal to his family. He'd do anything if it meant keeping them safe, even if that means having to sacrifice his own happiness or wellbeing in exchange for theirs -- and he has done so, on more than one occasion..
first stage of life
TW: DRUGS, ABUSE

When Mason was born, his "dad" -- aka his mom's current partner -- wasn't too thrilled about it, nor did he really think that Mason was actually his. He still signed off on the birth certificate, but Mason ended up with his mother's maiden name upon birth.

And the favoritism for his older sister, whom his dad had no question about, was all too clear, even in his young eyes. Mason was, more or less, left completely to his mother. His dad did next to nothing with the boy -- only the bare minimum when his mother wasn't around, but even then, he was often left crying until his mother would return and deal with him. And as far as she was concerned, well...

She didn't really want him, either, so bare minimum was done on both parents' end.

When his mother ended up pregnant for the third time, his dad packed his bags and left with Mason's older sister.

He hasn't seen them or talked to them since, although his sister has tried to reach out on a couple of occasions. But Mason just saw her messages, then blocked her without a second thought.

No point in dwelling in the past.

Despite Maria not wanting either son, it was clear that her attentions were more focused on Drake for... whatever reason. Although she beat both boys, her blows to Mason came more frequently, and she never had a single nice thing to say to him. In a lot of ways, Mason always felt like an outcast in his own family, and that feeling would often carry over to school, where he had trouble fitting in.

Being broke as hell and starving, though, Mason did end up learning how to pickpocket and steal things from an early age. It's still kind of embarrassing for him to go to certain stores, because he'd been banned from them when he was younger, although thankfully no one remembers that anymore.
second stage of life
As he grew into high school, Mason found himself bouncing between girlfriends -- a lot. Joey, then Tabitha, then Adriane, then Tabitha again, then Adriane again, until...

At fifteen, Adriane -- sixteen at the time -- told him that she was pregnant. He might've been young, but he was excited. He started to entertain all of those fantasies about a house with a white picket fence, good jobs, raising their child together.

Adriane, on the other hand, was scared as hell about the idea of having a kid. After some persuasion from Mason, with promises of some glorious little future as a family that neither of them had ever had, Adriane finally gave in and agreed. She dropped out of high school to keep the pregnancy a secret, and took to doing online school.

It was weird, and there were some questions from people when it seemed like Adriane had just dropped off the face of the earth.

The birth of their daughter, Ariana, was anything but easy. It was the best day of Mason's life, but probably the worst one of Adriane's. She ended up bleeding heavily, and the doctors told her she was lucky to be alive once she'd come to. But Ari had also come a couple months early, which meant that she was stuck in the NICU.

He spent all day every day there beside his daughter, all while Adriane laid alone in her hospital room.

By time Adriane was finally stable enough to meet her daughter, it felt as if the bonding period was gone. But they tried. Mason tried to help her force some kind of relationship, but Adriane just... couldn't. She couldn't figure out how to give Ari what she wanted, she couldn't comfort her, the baby would just... scream and cry nonstop in her arms until she'd pass Ari back to Mason, who'd be able to calm her in minutes.

Adriane stayed, though, until she graduated just last spring. And as soon as she did, she told Mason that she couldn't do this anymore -- and she left. Left him with a two, almost three, year old toddler and took off.
third stage of life
He managed to keep everything together. Himself, Ariana, his little brother, Drake, all under the house of their mother that wasn't any better than she had been when he was growing up. She constantly made it known how annoyed she was that Mason's daughter was there, but it only lasted for a few months.

Drake overdosed.

He ended up in the hospital.

CPS got involved and deemed their apartment unfit for children.

Drake was pulled and sent to rehab.

Ari was pulled and placed in foster care.

Mason found himself stuck behind, all thanks to having just turned eighteen a few months ago.

They told him he still had a chance, though, to get Ari back. He just had to stay out of trouble, get a place of his own, and make enough money to support the two of them.

All a lot easier said than done, of course.

Insanely bubbly and upbeat, Gwen is like a walking ball of sunshine. Hence why she likes the Care Bears so much (although she won't willingly admit that anymore, because that's just not cool).

That being said, one thing that she's always wanted was a... typical high school experience -- or what she sees as a typical high school experience. Unfortunately for Gwen, she's not exactly good at being cool. She's a nerd through and through, and she tends to trip over her words, or say just downright embarrassing things when she is trying to move up the social ladder of high school.

But hey, Gwen is nothing if not determined, and she tends to bounce right back when she's knocked down. Nothing really gets under her skin and sticks -- or, at least, she doesn't allow it to show.

Born to a fairly loving family. Great parents. Gwen was super close with her older sister, Kassidy, when she was little, and she looked up to her a lot.

Their mom died sometime around here driving Kass to cheer auditions. Gwen was, yeah, sad about it, and sometimes she still thinks about her mom, but it never really affected her all that much. She was closer to her dad in the long run.

When Kassidy entered high school, she got really popular, and her and Gwen started to clash more. It didn't really help when Gwen also entered high school, but was still her dorky, nerdy self.

You wouldn't know it looking at him now, or talking to him now, but once upon a time, little Emmett Gray was actually a very happy, albeit kind of shy kid. He tended to rely on his friends to do the talking and the introducing for him, and he pretty much faded into the background. In a lot of ways, Emmett viewed himself as the supporting character in a novel written about his friends. He was the forgettable one, the disposable one.

A lot of this probably came from being the last person added into their friend group, but alas.

However, with everything that happened with his family, and then with Kass, well...

Emmett is unrecognizable from that shy, mushy boy that he once was.

Now? He's very much a loner. In his opinion, being alone is for the best. Being around others, relying on others, it's just... a recipe for getting hurt, in a lot of ways, so... Emmett doesn't want anything to do with that. He would prefer to stick to himself. After all, Em knows that he can trust himself... for the most part.

Of course, Emmett also always assumes the worst intentions of everybody and oftentimes, this generally pessimistic view of everyone around him has led to Emmett being... well, naturally on guard around people. His first instinct is to push their buttons, watch as people blow up at him, and then cite that as a reason as to why the world and everyone in it absolutely sucks.
first stage of life
It might be hard to believe looking at him now, but Emmett was born into a good, wholesome household. His mother had a good paying job as a sought after lawyer on the northside of Mendoza Heights and, after his birth, his dad stayed home to take care of him and the household. Their family didn't need the extra income from whatever poor paying job his dad might be able to fine (and his dad was hopelessly unmotivated -- he was born to be a trophy husband, really), so Emmett always ended up being closer with his father.

Life went by without a hitch until kindergarten.

The whole... pretty much just being around his dad nonstop had led to Emmett being a little... ya know, well, he wasn't sure how to approach kids his age. So he mostly stuck to himself for the first couple days, eating lunch alone, playing alone -- it wasn't bad, really. He was used to being able to play alone, so really, this was how he wanted it. Yeah, he definitely didn't want or need friends. Pfft.

Well, until one fateful day when Emmett found himself seated alongside two girls.

The first was Ophelia Warren, who ended up starting a band with Emmett. Yeah, you've probably heard of them -- Emmy Oph, with the E backwards on their band shirts because that was cool and it was for style and not at all because Emmett had lied and said he knew how to write an E only for him to to write it backwards.

And... then there was Kassidy Brooks. And yeah, she deserves her own paragraph. Emmett wouldn't admit to this now, but he definitely had a crush on her from the first day he met her. It was... puppy love, really. Like that kind of love at first site except that he was five so like... it wasn't really that. You get the gist. And hey, Kass totally returned the feelings because they definitely got hitched with ring pops in third grade.

Basically, that was his childhood. Well, his early childhood. Elementary.
second stage of life
Anyway, so life rolled fairly easily for Emmett. He grew closer to the group and they ended up becoming his best friends. However, things took a... bit of a turn when Emmett turned eleven and his father caught his mother in bed with... another woman.

As it turned out, his mother had been having an affair with one of her fellow lawyers. After it came out, it wasn't long before Emmett's parents were getting a divorce and, a couple months before his twelfth birthday, Em and his dad were moving out into a different house. Yeah, his parents had kind of come to an agreement -- his mother would keep the house and not have to pay alimony, and his dad would get full custody of Emmett.

Although the entire experience was a bit of a bump in the road, Emmett tried to stay... well, as positive as one could following that. It was just him and his dad, but that was fine by Em since they'd always been closer, anyway. And things were doing... they were going... alright. Emmett and his mother stayed in touch but, as the days went on, she started taking longer and longer to respond to his texts or his phone calls.

The last one Emmett sent her was inviting her to his twelfth birthday party.

She said that she would be there.

She didn't show up.

Yeah, it hurt -- a lot more than he'd like to admit.

He did get to go to a middle school dance with Kassidy, though, so that was something.

However... his homelife continued to sour. His dad was unable to keep a job and started turning towards alcohol. They were moving every couple months, into cheaper by cheaper place until finally, in the summer before Emmett started eighth grade, Emmett found himself having to switch to the South school, and away from Kass.
third stage of life
Living in the poorer side of Mendoza Heights was... fine or whatever. It never really felt like home, and Emmett always found himself kind of on his own. But he wasn't really pushing for friends, or anything else of the sort.

And then he entered high school. And... he still felt kind of like he didn't belong anywhere.

His mom did start seeing him again, though, but really only ever other weekend. Maybe.

Him and his dad kept bouncing between homes, before settling on a friend of his dad's couch -- well, his dad slept on the couch, and Emmett slept on the floor on a blow up mattress.

But it was fine. He's fine.

Laid-back and easy-going, things tend to roll off of Nate easily. Things don't tend to get under his skin. Instead, Nate has perfected the ability to just not let things stick. Or, ahem, for the most part. Although most things don't get too him, there are still a few things here and there that manage to get under his skin.

When it comes to making mistakes, Nate isn't the greatest at admitting when he's in the wrong. He doesn't like others to be right, particularly if it would make him look bad. As such, Nate has an easy time lying and although he'll spin things from the truth, he tends to spin things from the truth in a way that will make him look good or make him look like the victim. In situations where it's impossible for him to do so, Nate will shutdown and refuse to argue or speak on it.

Nate needs to be fairly secretive (unless high, in which case he doesn't really shut up), and tends to stick to himself. Even with the few friends he does have, Nate tends to keep them at an arm's length away. He has no problem cutting people off that he views as "toxic" or, rather, people that try to tell him when he's in the wrong or disagree with him. The way Nate views it, everyone is only there temporarily until whatever happens and they end up abandoning him.

Easier to keep them at an arm's length away and sever those connections before anyone else can, of course.

He also likes to live life, as strange as it may sound, on the edge. As far to the edge as he can get. Nate is what you could consider a bit of an adrenaline junkie, albeit he's tried to suffocate that adrenaline junkie side of him after the whole thing that happened back home in Kansas. And the rehab thing his sophomore year. And although he's not nearly as dumb as he was a couple years ago, Nate is still compulsive and will usually do things without thinking of the consequences, which has come to bite him more than he'd like to admit.she tends to bounce right back when she's knocked down. Nothing really gets under her skin and sticks -- or, at least, she doesn't allow it to show.
his life
It's not like his family life growing up was bad. Nate was born the middle child to Clara and Maxwell Woods. And by middle child, he was the third child born out of six -- he has an older brother and an older sister, and then two younger sisters with the youngest of the Woods clan being another boy. In a family that big, it was hard to stick out or not be seen as part of a set. Nate lost count of the times that people around town would confuse him with his older brother or just refer to him as "that Woods boy."

When he hit elementary, the part of being just "that Woods boy" became much more apparent. His brother, Lucas, and his sister, Esther, had already made their mark on the school and around town. They were, in a lot of ways, the pride and joy of his parents'. That isn't to say that his parents didn't love all six of their children equally -- it was just that Lucas and Esther just seemed to be exactly what they wanted.

Growing up, he was quiet and tended to stick to himself. He found himself lost in art. His parents had a farm and Nate was expected to help out on the farm -- but he often found himself distracted, especially when his parents or older siblings were explaining things to him. Nate would often doodle in the dirt with his finger or a stick or draw little things in the dust on the side of the tractors or trucks. He was constantly in a world of his own which only served to distance himself farther from his family.

And, after driving a tractor accidentally into the creek because he hadn't been paying attention and didn't know how to use the brakes, well... Nate started to feel more disconnected from his family.

His hometown is small. Like, really small and there isn't much to do. So he ended up falling in with the wrong crowd by time middle school rolled around -- and at first, it was innocent stuff. Knocking and running away, a little bit of weed here and there. But... things turned worse and just snowballed from there, as they tend to do.

Nathan was first arrested when he was fourteen but, due to the small town and his parents being friends with the police, it was swept under the rug and never mentioned. He felt almost invincible, even as his parents screamed at him asking why he would vandalize anything. The screaming fell on deaf years -- he was still lost in his own mind but this time, instead of being distracted by art and his imagination, he felt anger festering inside of him. Things just got worse.

Nathan and his friends started turning to heavier drugs and things started to escalate. It all came to a tipping point when, high as hell, Nathan and gang robbed a store and were arrested -- again -- right before he turned sixteen. His parents were horrified to learn this and he was left alone in a jail cell for what felt like forever while his parents talked with the police.

They came to an agreement. Again, things would be swept under the rug -- even if Nathan was the "black sheep" and considered a lost cause in his family, they still didn't want the truth of what happened getting out. It would ruin the Woods' credibility around town, after all! So it was agreed that charges, again, would be dropped -- as long as Nathan left town.

Although boarding or military school were going to be the answer, Nate's aunt and uncle who lived in Mendoza Heights offered to take him in instead. It took some convincing, and his parents were against the idea in the worries that he would "ruin" his little cousin, but they eventually relented.

And being here has been... good for Nate. He hasn't been arrested, or gotten in serious trouble since.

Damien tends to carry himself with undue confidence -- that is, he has the attitude of someone that thinks they're untouchable. And why shouldn't he have that energy? His stepdad is rich and he's bought Damien's way out of any trouble he's gotten into in the past, so why not just keep spending his stepdad's money so he can keep fucking off? Makes sense to him.

He's unapologetically flirtatious, typically more openly flirtatious towards girls than guys. Although, ironically, he tends to catch feelings for guys over girls. But he's not the kind of guy that's there to play the long game -- Damien is very upfront about what he wants and if he doesn't feel like he'll get it from whoever he's talking to, he's apt to walk off without so much as a goodbye and probably use the exact same pickup line on the next person. And so on and so forth until he finds someone willing to respond to his advances for the night.

Most of his friendships are built off of Damien keeping someone around based on how useful they are to him. As in, he'll keep around, say, dealers and stay on their good side so he always has a steady supply. Easy girls that weren't a bad lay so he's always got someone to go back to when he's lonely.

That being said, when Damien does develop an actual attachment to someone beyond what they can do for him, he tends to be a bit overprotective and can be a little overbearing. He worries heavily about his friends and he'll easily jump to their defense, whether it's with words or fists, if he feels they're being threatened. In some ways, he tends to have boundary issues since he has a habit of inserting himself into situations where he quite honestly doesn't belong.

His temper is horribly short -- Damien is likely to jump down your throat at the slightest inconvenience, and he's not afraid to push things further by going for fists. Although, well, he typically pushes people and let's them punch him. Usually because he likes to say shit that he knows will piss people off -- if he's not trying to fuck you, he's probably trying to get you to punch him. He's got a habit of being able to get under people's skin and can come across as just pure annoying.

amien didn't have the most interesting or unique starts to life. Teenage mom who got pregnant in high school, kept him, dad was in and out of their lives for the first few years before being arrested for... honestly, Damien isn't sure what it was. He didn't pay too much attention to the first arrest.

As is to be expected from it just being Damien and his mom while he was growing up, the two of them are really close. Like where he used to say that she was his best friend when he was little -- something that his mother, Miranda, still loves to hold over his head and tease him about much to Damien's dismay.

Although they never had much, it wasn't like Damien was ever wanting. They lived in a tiny, one bedroom apartment while he was in elementary school, but he never went hungry. The electric never went out (except maybe twice). He always got a couple of toys on his birthday and then another one on Christmas and he was... basically...

Happy.

As is to be expected, things went wrong for Damien when he was around thirteen years old. His mother met some guy -- and before long, she was... forcing Damien to hangout with him and his daughter. Damien was resistant, and no amount of time made him any less resistant.

It didn't help that he had a hard time fitting in at school, and was being bullied at his school. So his mom switched him to a different school -- and he was bullied even harder there. And then she switched him again and this time, he went into the school swinging. He never could fight, but pretending like you could and getting into scuffles with unsuspecting future bullies really does help.

This was around the time that his first name, Damien, stopped being what he went by, and people started calling him Slater instead.

And then, he was expelled for getting into one too many fights, and his mother announced they were moving to Mendoza Heights in his sophomore year of school.

He tried to throw a fit. He tried to talk her out of it. But his mother was set, and soon enough...

He was moving in with his stupid stepdad and stepsister, and he hasn't stopped complaining since.

She is... someone that you either get along great with, or can't stand. Generally, people fall onto the latter scale of that -- or, well, they're on their way to the latter part, anyway.

She's hotheaded. She jumps from zero to a hundred without a second thought, and can come across as... harsh, to say the least. This means that, well, she's just not the easiest to get along with. Dahlia tends to start fights and cause issues where there were none before, sometimes just because she likes to watch the world burn.

Dahlia was born to a young couple that... definitely didn't know what they were getting into when they ended up pregnant. They never had much, often struggling to pay bills and put food on the table, but they loved each other and Dahlia. So... yeah, maybe she didn't have the newest things, but she always had parents that cared, at least.

With both of her parents coming from fairly strict parents, they went to the complete opposite of the parenting scale -- and in response, Dahlia ended up kind of... going wild. She was able to get away with nearly anything, and her parents would just smile, or laugh, or say oh, you know, that's how kids are.

There was never any really big, broad, wild thing that made Dahlia the way she is -- that pushed her towards a life of partying and drinking and poor relationships, it was just... fun. And Dahlia was born wanting that constant adrenaline rush.

She tends to be rather soft-spoken and relaxed. Ash isn't the type of person to jump into arguments, or even to really defend herself if she ends up in one herself. She prefers to just shut up, let people yell to their heart's content, and then move on.

She is friendly, though, and tends to make friends rather easily. She's easy to talk to, get along with, etc., etc. Of course, Ash doesn't really have a ton of close friends, but she kind of prefers it that way.

All that aside, Ash tends to prefer to be alone, often finding herself holed up in her bedroom. Sure, it's something that worries the hell out of her dad, but why does it matter? She's spending the majority of her time studying, anyway, so really, he should be thrilled.
first stage of life
Young Ashton West was born the second child to Steve and Elise West -- she was at least more planned than her older brother, but she wasn't really conceived out of a want for another child. Rather, her parents were trying to throw a sort of Band-Aid over an otherwise failing marriage, and to some degree, hey, that apparently worked. Her parents are still together.

Growing up, Ash never actually wanted anything. Why would she? They lived in a gorgeous home in New York City, and their family was never struggling for cash. Turns out her mother's parents happened to own several lucrative businesses and, with more money than they knew what to do with, they were more than willing to help out their daughter and her little family to maintain the level of living she was used to.

However, there were a lot of pressures from her mother growing up. From an early age, her mother tried to push her children into an array of various activities -- all of which involved some "skill" that she thought they could use for a future career in show business.

Ash, however, never really took to any of it and, the older she got, the more she rebelled against this little box her mother was trying to put her children into. And it all kind of came to a head after one bitter fight. When Ash woke up the following morning, she came down to a somber father and brother, a confused look on her face. She asked them what had happened, and Jace explained that their mother had left in the night.

She should've been sad, but Ash was anything but that. Without her mother's overbearingness, Ash was able to kind of be who she wanted to be, which meant that her seventh grade year was actually pretty easy for her.

Unfortunately... her mom did show back up in eighth grade, and her grip on Ash just tightened.
second stage of life
It turns out that when you have the pressure of your mom overlooking you, things like cheerleading and music start to become a lot less fun, and more like chores.

Ash kind of spent a lot of time out of their house in her early high school years, and it didn't help when she ended up getting a boyfriend whose parents were barely ever watching, so she could easily sneak into his room to spend the night. And why wouldn't she? It was so much better to get in trouble for not going home, then to deal with her mother's constant nagging.

And then, when she was about fifteen, her parents announced they were getting divorced.

They did -- and Ash's dad moved to California to be closer to his family, leaving her behind with her brother and mother.

Turned out that without her father there to kind of soften her mother's blows, things really only got... so much worse.
third stage of life
She doesn't really like to think about it, or talk about it, or dwell on what happened over the last couple years. Thankfully, though, after her junior year of high school, her dad told her that he'd settled down. He'd gotten married, and she could move in with him whenever she wanted -- so yeah. As soon as the school year was over, Ash packed her bags and was on the first flight out to live with him.

Her mother had tried to guilt her into staying, and part of Ash had wanted to stay and graduate with her friends. People she'd known for years. But the idea of spending another year under her mother's roof was too much. So she ended things with her boyfriend, and she moved.

She doesn't really talk or dwell on the past much -- she kind of just wants to move forward.

But things she's staying far away from?

Well, cheerleading for sure. Parties. Things that remind her too much of home.

Josephina was born in Sacramento, where her father opened up his first restaurant. Mi Casa Su Casa. Her mother, Matilda, is a legal secretary that works for the Department of Justice. Matilda's affair led to the end of everything after 13 years of marriage. At first, the separation was heartbreaking for Joey. Watching her father go through such turmoil as her parents fought over custody for Josephina, aged 10.

Shortly after the divorce which ended with the house being sold and the earnings split between Matilda and Emilio. During the divorce and custody battle, Emilio moved to Mendoza Heights and opened his third location for Mi Casa Su Casa. Ben's confidence and occasional cockiness, coupled with his laid-back demeanor, make him easy to gravitate towards. One night, his father came home drunk from the tracks. Furious with his losing streak. He tried to force himself on Ben's mother and started a fight between them. Young Ben tried to defend his mother, this only made his father focus on Ben. Ben's mother went to their bedroom and returned with the revolver his father kept in the bedside drawer. She shot him six times. At the trial the prosecutor pursued murder, but she received a lighter charge because of the circumstances. Shortly after, Aunt Claudia and her partner Rex took Ben to live with them. It was easy for Ben to connect with Rex because they both liked cars. For his 16th birthday, Rex gave Ben his beat up 1967 Pontia GTO Judge. Ben spent most of his summer working on the car.

But when you dance with the devil, you are likely to keep dancing. Over the summer, a group of people that told him he had to get their products across town. They used a picture of his mother in prison letting him know they could get to her. Extorted into pushing for the Slum Lord known as Hector. He doesn't like it, but in order to keep his mother safe in prison and help fund his trade school endeavor, he complies. Ben became very good at managing his personal life with business life. He keeps two phones, and only one has Hector's number in it. He might have had to do tests when he went to certain neighborhoods, but they were never anything he couldn't solve with his fists.

A junior who generally keeps to himself, but is not quiet. You could sit up at 2 in the morning with him outside of the gas station and he will ramble on and on. Nolan doesn’t go out of his way to keep his head down but does generally avoid other people he doesn’t know. He isn't unfriendly per se, but socializing is not for him. He does incredibly well in school, does not do sports, and is kind of like the kid who gets high under the bleachers. He isn't very responsible to add to that, and definitely smokes cigarettes or vapes. Nolan lives on the South side, and kind of is a loser who paints his nails and pierces himself. Born in Seattle, it was at first just him and his parents in a small apartment. They weren't exactly rich, bordering lower middle class. Growing up he got used to the fact his parents would not be around much. His father worked for a company who worked with waste in water, his mother a nurse. Combined, they did not take much work off. His was often left to his own devices once old enough, fine by him. When he was 4, his little sister was born. His mother took more time off work, but spent the majority of that time with his newborn sister, who interested him none.

Nolan has not been the best when it comes to social situations. In elementary school, he kept to himself like usual and just climbed trees or whatnot. The teachers were concerned, but it didn’t change. Eventually in fourth grade he made a friend, then in sixth grade he was whisked away to Mendoza. His father's work were switching locations and merging with a company that was near Mendoza. He was about 11, and his little sister was about 7. And the same things commence. He gets good grades, the cycle continues. He kept his head down, tried to avoid conflict (did not), made some friends and then didn't keep in touch.

He spends his time roaming about with or without the friends he managed to make and never being in the house until about 12 in the morning or later. Now as a junior, things have only improved slightly. He's managed to keep some friends, he has a part time job, and is pretty okay with where he is at. The thought of what is to become of him after highschool has not crossed his mind much, but it is sure to be a rude awakening in the coming years.

Gio is a senior on the Northside. He does both baseball and golf, was on the student council the last few years but isn’t this year. Responsible and good natured, Gio’s fairly easy to get along with and is a good student. He’s fairly easy going, a little reserved and an excellent listener — he doesn’t talk much as it is, anyways. The owners of Casa Navarro, one of the biggest tequila houses in Mexico. Her family story could be described as one of starting from the bottom now we are here, as her ancestors were just simple workers in a local tequila house but with the dream of prospering and giving a better life to their future generations, a family based on the values of responsibility and the love of what you do, a story for the books, to be honest.

Just as the values of their business, Luciana’s parents always encouraged her and her brothers to follow their dreams and passions. To do what made them happy, and tried their best in everything they could. Having a relationship based on honesty and knowing the value of money and how much hard work was to get it. To understand that they should be grateful for what they have and always give back to the community, that gave them a lot.

Sounds pretty nice, right? The perfect life, one that everyone wishes they had, because what could it be better than having loving parents that support you and try to make you happy, well it was a complete lie.

Sure, everything was true. Her family, in fact, owned a tequila house, and her ancestor did come from a humble origin, but saying that the family relationship was a mess was not exactly what Luciana wanted everyone to know.

In reality, they were far from being loving and caring, especially her father, who made his purpose in life to make sure that his children were at the top. Every sport, every class they could take the fourth children, David, Carlos, Lucas, and she were fully packed with activities. Which wouldn’t have been that bad if their father didn’t expect perfection and every time they didn’t excel or were at the top of their peers, he made sure to remember that they were nothing without him and that they were just wasting their money.

Despite the appearance of privilege, Luciana desired for freedom from the suffocating expectations of her father. She longed for a life where her success was defined by her own terms and not by the unattainable standards imposed upon her.

That one lazy friend who always has some unfiltered wiseass remark to say from the couch, Mina doesn't pull punches with her words and tells it as it is. She will say just about anything, even stuff that sounds like absolute nonsense and not blink twice. She has zero motivation and always acts like she has no energy but still manages to keep tabs on everyone's shit and likes to know what is happening.

A highly curious individual, she is sharp enough to figure most things out on her own but channels her intelligence and ability in "the wrong direction" and just won't apply herself according to her teachers. For her part, she knows she struck the lottery with her family and so sees no point in applying herself to things she has no interest in, and unfortunately, she loses interest in things very quickly. Still, don't try and take her for some rich, naive sheltered fool. She knows her self worth and what's what so if you try to take her for a spin, good luck.

An unapologetic player, she doesn't actively seek out people to hit on but is a willing flirt who enjoys toying with people on a regular basis, playing along with their affections or flirtations only to pull the rug at the last second. She enjoys the sense of power and thrill she gets from teasing people in this manner.

Mina doesn't like doing anything without getting something out of it and loves bargaining/making deals but will "begrudgingly" do things for friends for free or at discounted rates. Johnathan and Delilah Calloway were a wealthy couple who after years of struggling with infertility, finally had a child, their beloved son Winston. Unfortunately, Winston was born with poor health and pregnancy had taken a toll on Delilah. Wanting to protect their precious boy, they believed adopting a second child would relieve him of any burdens and allow them to have a 'normal' child on whom they could cast their expectations. Still, their high standards meant it was only when Winston turned 5 that they finally found a child that met their requirements.

Mina's birth mother was a teenager who wasn't ready for the stresses or challenges of motherhood when she fell pregnant. Her birth father was equally unexcited for the prospect of fatherhood, and both wanted to still live their life without being tied down so the moment she was born, Mina was put up for adoption. The Calloways scooped her up right away seeing that she was a beautiful babe with attractive looking parents both of whom had been performing well in high school prior to this unexpected blip in their life. Christened Wilhemina Calloway, she was raised by nannies under the strict supervision of her adopted parents.

Growing up in the Calloway household, Mina wanted for nothing. Her wealthy parents supplied her with every privilege and need she could ever want or have leading the young girl to have little motivation for anything in life. She dabbled in a wide range of extra curriculars; art, music, dance, sport, whatever her parents wanted to do with their child that they couldn't with Winston because of his poor health. As Mina performed well and grew up pretty, she quickly became the pride of her household but also began feeling like a doll, there simply to indulge her parents' whims and fancies. Still, she didn't complain and went along with what they wished, well aware of how lucky and privileged she was to have been adopted and loved by them. Although Mina had in a way become a replacement for him, Winston adored his adopted younger sister and showered her with affection, often looking to play with her when he was well enough. They were a happy household, and for a few years, Winston's health improved, and they functioned like a regular family.

Then when Mina entered high school, Winston's health crashed again, this time harder than it ever had before. Regular trips to the hospital for checkups became long stays and all the attention shifted from Mina to Winston as his health continued to fail him. Her parents were stressed and anxious and in the chaos of caring for their beloved son, Mina was neglected, left to her own devices and trusted to be able to take care of herself. Mina didn't mind. The lack of attention came with more freedoms which she happily indulged in. She satisfied her curiosity with various experiments, got involved in various activities and commitments but this time without seeing most of them through properly because she got bored and had no reason to stay on. Over the past few years as a student at Mendoza high, she has been a member of the school wrestling team, baseball team, cheer team, robotics club and dabbled in a little bit of MMA and golf on the side but has since quit or been kicked out of all of them.

Now in her final year of high school with no clear plans for the future and Winston's health still in a precarious state, Mina's just looking to get through this last year until her parents tell her what they want her to do next.

Noah's a good guy and tries very hard to stay that way. Despite his misfortune he tries to remain upbeat and keep a positive, forward-looking mindset but deep down, exhaustion is starting to set in. Noah was born the second of three children to Richard and Chelsea Lerone. He grew up admiring his older brother Jordan and adoring his little sister Yvonne. The brothers often played football together with their grandma serving as their coach out at the park while their parents worked multiple jobs to make things work. Jordan and Noah dreamed of going pro to get their family out of poverty and to a better life. The family was poor but happy until the year Noah turned 14.

Jordan was working part time at a construction site, hoping to earn a little extra to buy their mom a birthday present when an accident happened. Noah was called home from football tryouts to learn that his brother had been crushed under fallen construction beams and the company had blamed his injuries on his own carelessness and negligence. The family was too poor to sue and the accident left Jordan comatose and crippled and his family heartbroken. Richard and Chelsea worked overtime to pay for his medical bills, hoping for a miracle, that if nothing else, their eldest son would wake up again. He never did. Eventually, Richard fell sick under the strain of working too hard. While preparing dinner with plans to visit Jordan in the hospital after and then work the night shift, he collapsed. Not more than a month after Richard collapsed and just over a year after Jordan's accident, Chelsea tearfully pulled the plug on her son's life support. That was just last year. Jordan was only 19 and life hasn't been the same since.

The accident first occurred shortly after Noah entered high school and he tried to remain upbeat continued to work hard at football. As time passed, he took up more responsibility at home, trying to be the man of the house when his father went down and be a reliable big brother for Yvonne who was 7 years younger. Outside of school and football practice, he started to take up part time jobs to ease the financial burdens of the family and help pay off their debt from Jordan's hospital bills. A restless bastard child who loves hard, but labors harder. Can be the most callous and down-to-earth person all in one breath. Working nearly full-time to help his single mother make ends meet, Benji has flip-flopped between a slew of dangerous habits to cope with life's hardships. Between work and maintaining his grades, he has been running himself ragged. Before he used to party a lot, he was an avid participant in school sports. Unfortunately, since he had to quit for work, his rare free time is filled with more... "chill"... activities.

So, he's hot. Charismatic. Known well across town, but doesn't really run with a tight circle. The type of kid teachers hate to give up on, but inevitably do. He does a decent amount of illegal shit, but people like to exaggerate. You either love him or hate him. Most parents say he's trouble either because of the side of town he comes from, his alleged delinquency, or his family's reputation.

He's intrinsically an academic, but doesn't often show it. A keen observer can catch it in the surprisingly profound wisdom he spews at random. So, somewhat of an advice guy. He was good on the water polo team while it lasted; now he's an even better fry cook. It's pretty well-known that his dad left when he was young, and that he was in deep with some criminal shit. The mom's a saint, but she nonetheless has a soured reputation by association.

Benji, if anything, is full of humility. You almost need it when half the school won't dare meet your eyes in passing. It used to be lonely before he understood how infectious a bad reputation is, and how many shy away from him out of social self-preservation. He tries not to hold it against anyone who's not a real asshole about it.

He also tries his best to be pleasant. He smiles when it rains and will lend an ear to any who may ask, unless he's snorting something or it's his day off. In that case, buzz off and let him unwind. He would never say that aloud, though. He has a lot of patience, but he's always running on a ticking clock. It's hard to stop and smell the roses when you're overworked and running on the last of your reserves.

When Benji's off the wagon, don't try and take care of him. He bites and he hates asking for help. Benji wouldn't consider himself to be prideful, but he does have a need to radiate an aura of self-reliance. Or maybe he just likes being mysterious. He's a two-sided guy. One's pretty altruistic, discerning, and subdued, while the other is mercurial, stressed, and guarded. Maybe he's just born inconsistent? Maybe it's the moon.

Where does Benji even start? When he was a little, little kid he vaguely recalls staying in a nice place with his mom and dad somewhere out in the Valley. There was no white picket fence, but they had a nice backyard. And that's saying something, since they were in the heart of the city and shit gets pricy real quick. Back then, he never questioned how we could afford it all when his mom didn't work and his dad wasn't one of those clean-cut, suit-and-tie-type guys.

Growing up the way Benji did, "privacy" may as well have been a foreign word. His childhood home did have a front door—he just rarely saw it. Never shut for long, it existed more as a portal for duffel bags and strange men than a barrier against the world. Because of his father's illicit line of work, voices and footsteps filled the house at all hours. He and his mother ate, slept, and played in joint seclusion, acting out a standard home life when it was anything but. You didn't ask questions in that house, and you definitely didn't ask what was in the bags. "Bugs," they would always say, even though Benji never saw more than the odd cockroach on the front porch.

In a short time, his wires had become crossed enough for the concepts of inside and outside to become utterly negligible. Cool drafts through the front doorway were no different than the ocean breeze sweeping through the sand, nor was there a discernible difference between the sound of footsteps on kitchen tile or on sun-kissed pavement. Open spaces like the beach, the train tracks, and corner store parking lots felt like more of a home than the hush-hush business hub within his house's walls. The neighborhood kids provided his favorite pastimes, but when the sun went down and the kids' curfews wiped out the block, he was all who remained. Solitude became another activity Benji grew to appreciate, unless he was spending time with his mom.

Funny how things work out, isn't it? It's not too long of a story what happened since then. The dad, Mamoun Bahi, is in and out of prison on the regular, but Benji wouldn't really know. Since the first time he left the picture (Benji was no more than, what... seven?), their relationship ended. It's been Benji and his mother ever since, and their bond has only grown stronger since. They fell into poverty and moved to Mendoza Heights shortly before Benji entered middle school, now that the dad's income was all dried up.

Benji's mom is his best friend, and he's never once complained about the struggles they've had to face because of their financial insecurity. He knows how heavily it weighs on her, and strives to do what he can to help. Maybe that's where he decided he'd grow up a little faster, if only to ease the burden on his mom. He quit his extracurriculars and picked up extra shifts just to help pay the bills (and maybe to afford drugs but whatever). Recently, Benji's mom has been sending out more and more checks, and yet utilities haven't gone up in months...

Standing at 5 ft 8 in and weighing only 125lb Amy has a very thin frame. She not curvy so she sometimes hates the fact she's flat chested compared to a lot of the other girls. Amy is a geek at heart, she always has been. She loves gaming, tinkering with computers, table-top games, anime, and even at one point considered cosplaying. She's in general a pretty kind person. She's not reserved, but she does come off as guarded due to the bullying she received in middle school for loving all of that. While she's re-opened up a lot thanks to having friends who accept her as she is, her first instinct is still to hide it.

If there is anything she's not able to hide it's her intelligence, and the fact she's a very hard worker. She's maintained a 4.0 GPA her entire time at school so far, and still for fun likes to learn about things outside of her promising career path. Her parents expect her to keep top grades and she expects to live up to their expectations. In fact she tries to live up to everyone's expectations of her...which is sort of the problem because she doesn't know what expectations she should have for herself. Her own voice gets drowned out by the voices of everyone else in her head. She's unsure of who she is, and that's made it foggy of who she wants to be.

Right now she's focused on trying to figure out once and for all who she is and who she will be.

Another unfortunate trait she has is she's amorous. She's a very caring person, and friendly...sometimes more friendly then she intends to be. While she believes herself to be very loyal she also has never been one to dislike someone just because her friend dislikes them. It's gotten her into trouble from time to time because she's friends with people who hate each other. It's hard for her not to be the devils advocate, especially when she see's that someone may have no one. Her fear of being alone being projected onto them.

She is very insecure, and coming to high school has not helped that at all other then trying to hide it, but anyone who looks hard enough at her can tell it's still very much in her.

Amethyst was born the only daughter to black mother working as a mechanic and a White/Filipino father working as a dentist. They made good money, but due to being in debt from school and a few early poor money decisions they were right at the lower middle class line. From an early age Amy always loved music, video games, and puzzles. Anything that could challenge her mentally got her excited and focused, and music was like her smooth release from that. Both her parents however encouraged more of the mental challenges teaching her to play chess (she'd compete in tournaments).

By the time she got to middle school she was singing and dancing in the comfort of her room and shower, but that was about it. She instead focused on her computer classes and did well enough to where she could build her own by the end of 6th grade. It was then clear to her parents that she'd probably go down that path and whenever possible bought her anything she wanted or needed to help develop that passion. She couldn't afford to disappoint her family who had already sacrificed so much for her.

Tinkering with computers and learning to write script also got her away from her schoolyard bullies. The kids who tried to pressure her into letting them copy her homework, or just straight up do it for them. They'd pull on her long hair because it was always in a messy pony-tail. They'd take her glasses from her sometimes (one time they accidently broke them which is the reason she now just wears contacts). If she was alone in a room with just computers she typically wouldn't be found or messed with. Luckily the teachers trusted her and allowed her to go into the computer labs whenever she finished her work early.

High School
2020
When it was time to go to high school things got a little better as with time the bullying came to an end and she started dressing better and more socially appropriate. Her parents finally paying off some of their debts could afford to buy her more in season clothes. That and everyone could find their thing and people with social media and the internet. finding other people who were like her online gave her more confidence to be herself and bolder because it reminded her that their was a whole life and world outside of Bayshore.

Now she's in her senior year, and ready to finally get to go out into that world. On the positive side of her personality Lola (if she put's her mind to it) could be a straight A student. Well if she put her mind to it and in her early years wasn't more worried about if she was going to eat that night or not. However because of that she's not just book smart. She knows there is more to the world then that and knows she needs to be street smart as well to get her out of the life she's had so far. If Lola wants something she'll figure out a way to get it. Legal, illegal? Moral, immoral? Who cares. She's independent thanks to always needing to fend for herself for the most part when her brother wasn't around.

Lola and Link have a lot in common, but also are very different. A major difference is while he is spontaneous and reckless by taking risks...she can't. She doesn't like leaving anything up to chance if she can help it. The world is already careless enough as it is without her adding to it. Sure not every plan goes according to plan...but she'd rather have one, and a plan B in case it falls through then just wing it. She is also more recluse then he is.

On the negative side of her personality she is extremely bitter and filled with rage over the effects other peoples decisions have had on her life. She is bitter about the fact that her father could've help them out this whole time and didn't. She is bitter about the fact her mother had to die for them to get a better life. She is bitter about the fact that she has bounced from "family" to "family" yet still doesn't have one (well aside from Link). She tries to not let it show, but she holds a serious grudge for it all. That partnered with her survival skills make her out to be quite the silent dellinquent. Things like petty theivery. It started out as a little five finger discount to make sure they had things they needed to survive and then turned into it being about keeping up with her peers, to now she just does it for fun. Just because she knows she can. Even when she is caught it encourages her to try and be better next time. It's almost like a game to her.

She acts very confident and like she doesn't care about the opinion of others...but she does. Well some people. She doesn't feel like she is especially pretty, and deep down she doesn't know if she has what it takes to actually pull her and her brother out of this pit...that maybe some people like her are born to be miserable. She uses all these skills for all the wrong things. She is a digital con-artist. While her people skills leave a lot to be desired in person from time to time, online she has scammed the best of the best by this point. She's hacked into companies, bank accounts, ect. Lola was born just a few minuets after her beloved older twin Lincoln whom she affectionately calls Link even if it makes her think of the legend of Zelda and begs him every year to dress up as him. Their mother was only an 18 year old woman named Gloria Bello. Being the product of a love affair between their mother and a married man did it's damage on her and their family.

Between the conditions of having to grow up without a stable father figure, a struggling overworked mother, and a grandmother who seemed to take every chance she could to throw that in their faces...it's a wonder their is even a bit of softness sin her. Not that she'd want anyone to see it. Not that she had the luxury of letting people see it.

Nope it was masked under bitterness, and a cynical personality looking around at the world they were forced to live in verses the world they should've been living in if their father had a back bone and help support the children he helped create.

Early years

Struggling to make ends meet their mother worked 3 jobs so Link and Lola naturally raised themselves and each other. More so Link in the early years then Lola, but still. They even had to take care of their ill grandmother till fate put her out of her misery when they were only 9. Then it was just them against the world, and while she hated how cruel the world had been, she was always a little grateful she had at least one person she could count on.

They'd go over to friends houses, some the same some different. They'd mooch off their food and other resources. This was how she grew attached to gaming since she played whatever system was at the house of choice that day. Hanging around her brother and his guy friends turned her into a bit of a tomboy in her early years.

Plus families with boys knew how much boys eat so there was always more food there. As they entered high school things didn't get any better. Link hung out with the rebellious crowd and while she'd tag along for the ride sometimes other times she'd sneak away to be on her own and study, or break into the computer labs to game and learn how to do other things on it.

Thanks to a tech teacher back in middle school she learned the basics of programing and from their she became kind of a tech genius. Her more reclusive form of rebellion didn't put as much of a strain on her and her mothers relationship like it did link. Though her mother always kept an eye on her because Lola never asked for anything, but she always had...things. She always had a few bucks to spare especially as she got older.

Her mother knew better then to ask though because help was help. Lola was always worried about Link especially when he wouldn't come home unless she knew whose place he was at. But someone had to hold down the fort sometimes, so it would be her. She convinced herself it's not loneliness if it's by choice.

Foster care +

*TW: death* To bad it wasn't on June 6th as police came to the door announcing they were now basically orphans. Killed in a liquor store robbery...what a way to go. As the tragedy sunk in so did the fire, and determination to get the hell out of this miserable place. They were taken by CPS and put in the foster care system for months. Of course no one wanted teenaged twins that refused to be separated, so they bounced from house to miserable house.

Her skills with a computer being their only saving grace that secretly kept them together. They weren't always treated terribly, but that didn't matter in her eyes. All she knew was there was clearly no one in this world who wanted her, wanted them. Just them. They were it. So the last 6 months of her junior year were spent hoping around Bayshore and neighboring cities schools depending on the home she would up in. Though truth be told the system couldn't keep up with how much they moved she she wasn't really attending school much.

Present day!

Finally their father was tracked down, and of course he was some L.A. political figure who actually lives in Bayshore only 20 minuets away from their original home. Being sent to live with him and live the kind of life they should've know, their mother should've known before her death...it was too much. It was so bittersweet yet she wanted to vomit. Maybe had he shown her an ounce of kindness and generosity she'd still be alive. No she'd never forgive this man for abandoning them, but she also wasn't about to waste a perfectly good opportunity to finally be free, to finally help herself and Link get the kind of life they deserved.

history

Privilege is an understatement for the life Dylan was born into, the only daughter to a wealthy French businessman and a Thai model. Yet, Dylan has always been stuck in second place, the second best compared to her golden boy of a brother. The only place that Dylan could be the best, was in school.

From the moment she could read, Dylan's teachers told her parents that she was destined for great things. Laurent began to teach his daughter the importance of finance and literature, and the value of hard work. Academics came naturally to her, and even when they didn't she was too stubborn to let homework get the best of her. However, excelling in school was still not good enough for her parents, so Dylan took to extracurriculars as well, joining the volleyball team and student government.

Captain of the debate team, a star volleyball player, and some of the best grades in her class still weren't enough to gain her parent's attention. No matter how hard she worked, no matter how many sleepless nights she spent trying to work twice as hard as her peers, it would never be enough, Dylan would never be good enough.

Their father would take her brother into work with him, teaching him everything he knew about finance and preparing his prodigal son to replace him one day. Dylan was left at home, building a resentment towards her brother for the attention their father gave him instead of her.

Despite the way he treated her, Dylan still idolized her father and wanted to impress him. Even if he did treat her brother better than her, he was still a hard-working man who had built a beautiful life for his family. But all of that admiration Dylan had for her father came crashing down last year when the police came knowing on their door. This entire time, her father had been embezzling money from his company.

From there, life became on giant downward spiral for the Monets. Her mother filed for divorce while her father was still fighting the embezzlement charges in court, and even though he was able to walk away with merely a slap on the wrist, their marriage was ruined. The Monets were able to keep it all mostly underwraps, but Mr. Monet walked out a few months ago and hasn't contacted his daughter since. Even before the divorce Mrs. Monet was using painpills, but since the divorce process started she hasn't been hiding it as well as she used to, leaving Dylan feeling more and more like the parent most days.

Doug and Pamela Prescott were not those parents.

Ledger Isaiah Prescott and his twin sister, Drew Elizabeth Prescott, were born February 14, 2007 in the hospital wing of the Los Angeles County Correctional Facility. Pamela had been serving a thirty day sentence for smashing a beer bottle over the head of a woman who dared to make eyes at her husband.

Thankfully, the Prescott siblings had their grandma Gloria to care for them during their infancy. Their parents were in and out of their lives throughout until Gloria passed away when Ledger’s older sister, Kitty, was eight and the twins were seven. They pretty much fended for themselves after that.

Gloria had done her best to teach them how to care for themselves. Cooking. Bills. To never, ever give their parents money.

Tragedy struck once again when the kids came home to find Pamela dead on the living room floor from an apparent overdose.

Doug was a mess and somehow able to convince a judge that he was more than capable to care for him and his sisters. It was bittersweet. They got to stay together, but they only had themselves to rely on.

Kat took on the maternal role and Ledger, being a certified genius, was the brains of the operation. He made sure that they paid the bills, food was in the house and that they were always just ahead of the plethora of final notices that showed up on their door.
