Squad A IC

It wasn't supposed to go this way....

The day he finally let himself graduate from the Academy was the day everything was supposed to change. He could stop working for the Foreman, he could start really becoming a Shinobi, and he would start working towards finally being accepted by his Father again...

But nothing had changed.

The only thing different was the intense sting Ryu felt in the left side of his face as his eyes opened that morning. As far as his squad was concerned, he was basically MIA since he had left for that job of his. From what he had heard, squads got reshuffled again, so odds are he had completely different squad mates now... A soft sigh escaped his lips as he sat up out of bed, wincing a little as fresh pain coursed through the side of his face. He stood up and walked into the bathroom to check himself in the mirror. Bandages were wrapped around his head, covering his left cheek, eye and forehead. He knew he had to replace the bandages before he could meet with his new squad, but how could he explain the injury? Kazou was a medical ninja, no doubt he could tell the difference between an injury acquired in training from one like this...

He shook the thought from his head, slowly unwrapping the bandages he had tied himself. He sighed as he saw his face. The area around his left eye, extending to his cheek was severely bruised, with several jagged cuts that were, to a medical nin's trained eye, caused by broken glass. Thankfully, his eye was fine, though the area around it was swollen enough that he could only just keep the eye open.

He should have seen a doctor immediately after the incident. But what would he tell the doctor that wouldn't ultimately result in him losing his home and winding up on the streets? After all, if anyone knew what the Foreman did, he'd be sacked on the spot, and then Ryu would be without a job, and being a genin didn't pay quite enough just yet to live on...

Besides, he didn't want word about this to get out, that he had worked himself so hard his body gave out, and in that unconscious state he had been assaulted successfully by someone that wasn't even a shinobi...

Things had always been bad under the Foreman. He was cruel and loved to give unreasonable deadlines but it had never been this bad before. Ryu had a hunch why things suddenly got so much worse. When being a genin would pay the bills, the Foreman would lose his exploited labor, meaning he'd have to do the work himself, take longer doing it, and as a result get paid less for it. That realization probably led him to lash out more than usual.

Ryu sighed. Hopefully this new squad would get off the ground so he could earn enough and quit being a worker... He picked up an antibiotic ointment, carefully applying it to the various cuts, just barely flinching at the sting it caused. Once that was done, he picked up some fresh bandages and carefully wrapped up the injury again so it would be hidden from sight. He would come up with some excuse for the bandages on the walk... He tied his headband on, dressing and grabbing his gear before he reluctantly started to head out, keeping his head down so he wouldn't draw so much attention to his bandages.

Even still, people took notice. He could hear them whispering about it, wondering what had possibly caused an injury that required so much wrapping... He made his way to the meeting place slowly, almost dragging his feet. He didn't know what he would tell Kazou, or his new squadmates. This wasn't how he had hoped being a genin would be like.

It wasn't supposed to be this way...

The Lost and Found

Abandoned%20Class_zpsxrzxptl5.jpg

The team was set to meet up at the old public school in Kemuri. The school had once been filled with students, standing two stories high. It was situated in the now barren residencial section of town where most civilians of Kemuri had lived before the villages decline. The once lavish school stood in shambles since being abandoned 10 years ago, lacking enough students to make it worth wild to keep such a large place running. It had been one of the last few great buildings that were constructed before the village's downfall.

A light breeze filled the abandoned classroom of what had once been a school in Kemuri for those not seeking to become a shinobi. A few chairs remained sitting in the dark room, left over scraps laying on the ground. The walls already had begun to decay from the lack of care. When it was functioning as a class room, the room easily fitting twenty students or more at a time. Anything of value was long since stripped of the room.

Ryunosuke, Masaru, and the new team member Yuuki were told to meet up in that particular classroom. The window was situated open on the second floor, giving them entrance without having to venture through the empty school.

Yuuki quietly groaned as he attempted to coax himself out from under the warm blankets. Shinobi or not, he was still a twelve year old kid. One who certainly did not like early mornings. But he'd received the news with about as much shock as his former teammates that he'd been switched to a different squad. All because his older sister had been chosen for Squad C's new Jounin. At least she was far more reliable than the other two assigned to that squad. But the damage was already done and she would have a difficult time earning the trust of her new charges.

A simple bowl of rice and some soup made up that morning's breakfast. He wasn't all that hungry, likely thanks to being somewhat nervous about meeting his new squad. From what Tsubaki had told him, Kazuo was a very skilled Jounin and he was in good hands. But who were his teammates again? He could remember Ryunosuke, rather infamous due to failing the graduation exam twice. That was something Yuuki didn't understand, Ryu's scores in ninjutsu and especially genjutsu (Yes, he peeked, wanna fight?) were more than high enough to graduate. So what the hell kept him back?

Dressed and equipment gathered, the Genin made his way towards where he'd been told to meet. Some abandoned school not too far from the academy he'd attended. If Yuuki was remembering right, they were to meet in a classroom on the second floor. He just happened to glance up and spot the open window, an easy way inside that wouldn't involve getting lost in the hallways and looking like an idiot. After scaling the building and slipping inside, Yuuki noticed the class room was empty. Was he early? Could this have been the wrong room? Or was it the right one and Kazuo was just hiding.

He wasn't much of a sensory ninja, so hiding wasn't all that difficult.

Kazou Yamamoto

The man landed heavily as he arrived at the building he was to meet his new group, or at least two would be new. he still had Ryonosuke, that was for certain, so he had to watch out for two new faces. Tsubaki's brother, and Masaru... Perhaps this time he would keep them for more then a week.

He stood still and silent as a statue outside the doorway, awaiting his students appearance. They should be along shortly...

....

..........

...............

What time was the meeting at again?

The man rummaged through his coat and pulled out the piece of paper, reading abit and then frowning deeply as he saw it...

"...two hours from now..." he sighed slightly as he had mixed up the times in the lesser evil manner. He had time to kill it seems... Placing the paper away he looked around himself at the early morning scenery, this was a undisturbed area, save for the open window up top, no doubt where Renai resides... A person he'd rather not meet with at the moment, atleast without reason... a frightening woman indeed, especially in the morning. While the thought of Renai with abit of bed head was, of course, slightly endearing, the fact that msot people in this world were indeed not morning people also meant she would be... irritable, to say the least. Should she be in that state of course.

Regardless, he had to await his students.

One in particular he'd like to meet was Ryonosuke, his disappearance for a week and three days made him worried, abit disappointed, but mainly worried. He showed great promise and he had left so suddenly... he did some investigation of course, finding out his work and that awful foreman, would he be able to he'd cut that man down with the very words he spoke... One of the many damned reasons this place is going to hell, disgusting swine such a he.

He wondered how Ryo was now, as a small bird came to rest atop his head, deep in thought about what to do...

2 hours later.

Spotting one of his students completely ignore his exsistance and hoped inside, no doubt the various birds that had accumulated and placed sticks and such upon him to create nests did something to hide his presence... or perhaps the student was simply... not as perceptive as he thought he would be, he turned his head slowly as he looked up, watching the young man scale the building quickly and with little effort, guess Tsubaki was right about his skill after all.

He sighed and all the birds flew off as they realized the statue of a crossed arm man was indeed and actual person, he started to make his way up.

And finished as he quite easily jumped through the window, silent as a shadow.

"Yuuki is it?"

Yuuki Mifune

The classroom was . . . well, it was trashed. Thoroughly so. Chances are no one's really set foot in this place since the school had been closed down. Granted, scavengers had probably come through, but once the place had really been picked clean had it truly been abandoned. Yuuki folded his arms in front of his chest, just what were the chances of them actually breathing some new life into this little village? He wasn't sure, but the more important question of the moment was how long should he wait before beginning his search for his teammates?

"Yuuki is it?"

Yuuki jumped at the sudden voice, spinning around to face him as he did so. It seemed the Genin was already developing the muscle memory to instinctively go and unlock his blade from its sheath. His one golden eye looked like it gave off a faint glow in the dark of the abandoned classroom. Was it a trick of the light? Or something else? The Genin blinked at the realization of who stepped through the window behind him. Giving a small bow, Yuuki responded to the question, "Yes it is, you must be Kazuo-Sensei then?"

Ryu finally made it to the schoolhouse, about ten minutes early, but otherwise fine. He glanced around with his one exposed eye, noticing the open window as an easy entrance. Normally, he would use his Genjutsu to get up there unnoticed, but since, as of late, it seemed like everyone could see through it as easy as breathing, he saw little reason to do it. He just walked calmly towards the wall, placed one foot on the wall and started walking up the wall as if it were flat ground.

For a Genin, he had very advanced chakra control skills. Given he spent the majority of his work days stuck to the sides of buildings like this, it was no small wonder that he had all but mastered chakra control like this. As he walked up the wall, he considered his appearance.. He didn't want anyone to know what happened, not only because it would likely clue people in as to his status with his family, but because he didn't want anyone to see him as weak. With that in mind, he pulled some hair free from the half pony tail, carefully fussing with it so it fell in front of his left eye, hiding the bandage rather well, as his headband hid the rest.

At last, he reached the window, staring at it by his feet as he took a breath to collect himself. He once more considered using his Genjutsu. In the past week, when he wasn't working he was experimenting with ways to make the illusion even more difficult to detect. He had improved a bit, but there was only so far he could go with a basic Genjutsu like that. He would need to learn advanced variants of the jutsu if he really wanted to see progress. The only way he could tell if he had improved by any significant margin would be to try it and see if it took Kazou any longer to see through it...

He closed his eyes, raising his hand up as he formed the handsign, small holes vanishing from his form and expanding until he was completely gone from sight. With this done, he made his way inside, seeing Kazou and another student he recognized already in discussion. He saw little reason to interrupt, just staying quiet and out of the way for now.

At the very least, the longer it took him to be noticed, the longer he had to think up an excuse for the bandages, if anyone noticed through the hair he had let down to hide it. Did it make him look like some emo kid? Yes. Yes it did. However, that was the least of his concerns at the moment...

Kazou Yamamoto

"Indeed, I am Kazou Yamamoto, your teacher hence forth." he stepped into the room fully as he cracked his neck, stiff from standing still for so long.. he shall save the boy's pride and mentioning he was there the whole time. "we are to wait for two-" the door opened letting Masaru within the room with a small hello. "One, one more student." he corrected himself as he examined the room with careful eyes... Scent of... Antibiotics... Interesting...

From what he could see, the other two students were not injured, and the scent wasn't originating from them, it was in the air still however... from the window he was at... to... hmm... Did you hurt yourself Ryonosuke?

"Ryonosuke, you are here as well then?" he asked out loud as his eyes scanned the window for a moment, as he took a step towards the middle of the room. Yuuki mifune... that glow in his eyes... Seems his time is coming sooner then Tsubaki thinks, or atleast abit more so then she did. he shall keep this in mind.. hopefully Yuuki will not force anything to occur, or kazou might have to do something drastic.

"Our introductions shall be made now, as we have a mission already, introduce yourselves to each other and tell me when you are ready to begin the briefing."

Yuuki gave a slight nod as Kazuo confirmed who he was. He did notice that his sensei spoke in a much more formal tone than most in the village, but at least he actually seemed nice. The little quirk could easily be looked past given that. The Gennin's gaze followed Kazuo as he walked further into the decaying classroom, it was clear they were the first two out of the four to arrive. But that didn't last long as another opened the door and stepped inside. Yuuki studied the boy for a moment, unable to place his name. He remembered seeing him in class but that was it, not like he could recall the newcomer even doing anything over their time at the academy.

"Ryonosuke, you are here as well then?"

Turning back towards the window, Yuuki quickly scanned the room for any sign of the last member of their team. There was no one to be seem within the barren room. If he is here, must be using genjutsu for whatever reason. If that was the case then Yuuki was pretty much out of luck in finding him. Maybe one day he'll be better at sensing the chakra of others, but today was not that day. The boy's mismatched gaze moved back to Kazuo as he mentioned everyone giving introductions. He supposed he could go first, but what other information did he want the Gennin to share? May as well find out it seemed, "I'm Yuuki Mifune, guess it's a little more on the obvious side but I specialize in kenjutsu for the time being."

"Ryonosuke, you are here as well then?"

He almost sighed right then and gave it up, but he noticed Kazou's eyes didn't ever really lock on to him. This puzzled him. Before, Kazou had seen through it like nothing, but this time, it seemed like something else had tipped him off... So his Genjutsu really was improving then.. that was a good sign. It meant all the work he put in while he was MIA wasn't for nothing.

But then, what had tipped him off? A cool breeze blew in from the window, and Ryu tensed up. It was a rookie mistake on his part to stay near the window, Sure he couldn't be seen, but that didn't stop scents from getting blown through. Like the scent of antibiotic ointment... He cursed himself a few dozen times in his head, listening as Yuuki introduced himself... He had remembered Yuuki from class, though for the moment a few of the details escaped him as his mind buzzed trying to think of ways to explain the smell of antibiotics on him.

Well.. if he waited too long, it would only make matters worse for himself...

With Yuuki's introduction finished, circles appeared in the air and slowly expanded to reveal Ryu standing near the window. His hair was hanging down over the left side of his face, giving him a rather aloof appearance. To the untrained eye, there was nothing wrong with him. However, a perceptive eye would notice the flecks of white showing under his hair in some places,a telltale sign of bandages... Despite his best efforts, it was hard to hide something requiring so much bandages...

"I'm Ryunosuke. You may call me Ryu.. I specialize in Genjutsu, and Ninjutsu. I look forward to working with all of you..." Straight to the point. He hoped introducing himself like that would get attention off of himself as quickly as possible. He was trying so hard not to draw attention to his eye, from his posture, to the way he kept that side of his face in the shadows.... Notably, he didn't use his surname. It didn't feel like he had a right to since he wasn't even allowed back home...

Every so often his gaze would nervously shift to Kazou.... How long would it be until the question came up of what happened?... What would he even say to it?....

Kazou Yamamoto

"Well then, now that is out of the way, let us begin with the briefing." he shuffled through his pockets and pulled out a scroll containing the mission statement. he looked to his students, a slight smile danced across his face.. this would be their first no doubt, he will let them have most the work, should things go to hell, as he would expect they would, he will be there to pick up the pieces should it come down to it.

"Our mission..." he cleared his throat and began. "Is to locate and find a young man, our client, the one who will be paying you so you know, states that this young man is indeed her son. He was last seen in the underground tunnels beneath the city with a group of thieves, it is thought he has joined in with them after he ran away from home. The reasons for him leaving such was not disclosed, but that does not matter, our mission is to bring him back." he explained as his eyes read the paper once more and occasionally glanced at his students to see their reactions.

"This will not be a dangerous mission if you keep your head about you and don't cause enough issue to provoke them into being a threat, but our target is clear, and its not likely our target will come easily as he has already joined in with a group of thieves." he explained once again and then put the scroll on the table.

"The pay will be 31000 ryo, split between you. And will be a good grounds to help you prove yourself for tougher, and more highly paying missions. Exciting isn't it?' he asked with a small chuckle, this was going to be fun to watch.

Yuuki Mifune

Yuuki quietly listened as Kazuo explained the mission to the team. He'd heard rumors about some kind of trouble stirring up in Koseki, but the young shinobi wouldn't have thought his first mission with this squad would involve it. "So . . . track down this gang on thieves and drag this kid home then? I mean I don't exactly see him coming with us all that willingly..." He could have been wrong, hell, he wouldn't have minded being wrong. But chances seemed pretty high that they'd be knocking out this person and carrying him home.

He quickly glanced up at their Jounin, "Do we have any idea what these thieves look like? Or better yet our target?" It probably wouldn't have gone over all that well if they brought home the wrong person. Yuuki was already looking back down at the scroll spread out on the table. This group of thieves mainly operated underground . . . more than likely it'll be dark down there.

If only he had the Ryugan.

Ryu's eye widened a little. That kind of money would help get him out from under the Foreman's thumb... "Exciting is putting it mildly.. "Ryu remarked softly, glancing around at the rest of the group. "Yuuki is right though, do we have a picture of this guy or something?" He asked, almost self consciously brushing the hair out of his face before he stopped himself, remembering he needed his hair to hang the way it was to hide his bandages.

"So the objective is to bring the guy back alive.. Seems straightforward." He remarked. It almost reminded him of his battle with the rabbit Kazou-sensei had summoned. Tracking, cornering, and capturing. It was basically the same thing, only instead of a rabbit capable of multiplying, It was a single man. He crossed his arms over his chest. "Do we have any knowledge on what the guy is capable of? Any specialties, unique skills or anything?" He asked.

As far as Ryu was concerned, the more they knew about the target, the better. Already the gears were turning in his head. Plans were forming, strategies, contingencies.... He wasn't going to fail in this mission, or any mission. He had failed enough in his life already, never again. This was just another step to finally proving himself... He couldn't afford to fail, not if he ever wanted to be able to stand before his father again...

Ayumu Susumu, The Dandy

A 5th voice sounded in the room by the hallway.

"Excellent, I was hoping for an exciting mission as my first, and the pay doesn't sound too bad either. Perhaps I could buy some robes a little less dirty than these" His robes probably could be put on a surgeon's table.

He almost looked hesitant to enter the room, and as he did so as graceful as a swan, it was obvious he was trying not to step into anything dirty. He'd actually been down the hallway for a few minutes, having caught the conversation about the mission details, though it'd taken him a bit to find a good path without getting dirty. Entering, he glanced at Masamu in the room, his expression becoming ugly.

"What are you doing here, pleeb? Didn't you hear the memo? Lady Renai doesn't need you here. Someone of my talent is much more appreciated. Get. Out."

Turning to the rest of his team, he bowed gracefully, his robes flowing around him in a dance of white and purple. In truth, it had taken him hours to get his clothes just right in order to give off the right vibe.

"Oh, and do forgive me, my name is Ayumu Susumu, the fabulous. About being late, I couldn't find anything to wear this morning, so I suppose it's up to me to make up for it with a good showing, isn't it? Well, if that's it, shall we be off? Details can be given during travel, no? I'll be sure to be a big help. I'm rather fond of genjutsu. It's far too under appreciated."

Ayumu turned to leave, before his eyes rested on Ryunosuke's hair for a good few seconds. He couldn't look away. After a second, all he could do was 'tsk' at it, then turn away, ready to leave.

the man stared at his new arrival for a moment, slightly dumbstruck by his... utter demeanor... Did he really come in late just because he couldn't choose what to wear? is... is this a joke? Was this some damned prank? this smelled like Seiji, it had to be him, no man in their right mind would... Would...

...No...

No...

This was real...

This was somebody he will have to deal with daily...

This was his new torment...

His new Seiji...

"...The young man looks like this." Kazou stated as he completely ignored the sudden entrance of the young man, flipping out a picture to show the three young men. "His name is Kota Kurami, young man of 13 years old, green eyes, brown hair to his ears and a slight scar on his left cheek just below the cheekbone. he favors his right leg when walking and running due to an accident in his younger years and has been known to wear a green bandanna, as does the rest of the thieves he runs with, possible gang symbol but is a good tell when you see one. he ran away from home and his parents are offering the reward for his safe." he stressed this.

"Return. They are nothing more then common thieves but be mindful, they could have put up traps or simply try to over power you, you may have your training, but relying on yourself alone will never bring about a sure victory. They will also have numbers, and home terrain advantage. As we will be heading to Koseki for this mission, it will not be a far walk, simply a day between. this mission may be abit tough, so prepare yourselves accordingly."

He explained and finally finished with a slight sigh. "I shall be with you in this for a time, but I have pressing concerns within the city as well, we will be meeting with the family before we begin our search in the city, be prepared to enter the tunnels below." he warned once more and looked between all his students with stern eyes.... then smiled.

"it'll be easy, don't worry to much, ruination is just as destructive as under preparation. Let us head to the city gates, We shall begin our journey there." and with that he turned to the window.

"And Ayumu.... Come late again, and I will make certain you will not feel your limbs for 3 weeks. You are shinobi, not an academy student. people's lives count on us, as a genin I'd trust you'd know this. That said you are correct, I will answer any question you have about jutsu, the mission or otherwise along the way. Let us go, the city gate is this way."

And as swiftly as he entered, the man lept out the window, his movement swift and fluid even with his heavier kit. He landed on the ground and awaited his students before they would begin their journey.

If they came here unprepared it was their fault, it is in the rules to always be prepared for a long journey, and goes without saying should one be forced to stay in a area for a long period of time. And should they require food, it would be a good time to show them how to hunt on the trail.

Ryu raised an eyebrow as the new arrival sauntered in and promptly proceeded to piss him off.... A few words immediately came to mind... Pretentious, cocky, annoying.... A quick glance told Ryu he wasn't the only one a bit... put off, by this guy's introduction. Kazou looked like he was having a severe case of deja vu... He shook his head, following Kazou's lead and ignoring the pompous new addition as Kazou Sensei gave them a few more details. His good eye studied the picture, committing every facet of it to memory. Due to the nature of his particular kind of Genjutsu, he has grown rather adept at memorizing details in a short time for replication in Genjutsu. He noticed that their new addition made some sort of noise when looking at him, causing his eye to twitch irritably.

This guy just seemed completely intent on rubbing Ryu all the wrong ways... No matter, Ryu had worked too hard for too long to let someone like that mess up his squad's first mission.

For once, Ryu was grateful for the extra weight in his pack. He didn't exactly trust his Scrooge of a landlord not to steal what little he had when he was gone, so he almost always carried everything with him, not that he had much to begin with... He watched Kazou leap out the window, his mind flashing back to Seiji's similar exit so many days ago... He shook the thought from his head, adjusted the straps of his pack and followed Kazou out the window without another word, flipping once through the air before landing lightly on his feet.

His mind was already on Koseki. This mission was so similar to the mission Kazou had given him immediately upon graduation. He had to track and capture an elusive target with unknown abilities.. He had managed that mission solo, with Yuuki's help and with Ayumu STAYING THE FUCK OUT OF THE WAY WITH HIS DIRT-PHOBIA, this should be little more than a walk in the park.

Even now, he kept his left eye away from Kazou, his head deliberately turned so that it would be harder to notice the bandages. He had more bandages and ointment in his bag, so he could tend to the injury on the road. The bigger issue would be finding a way to change everything out without Kazou finding out.. It was rather obvious that Kazou could sniff out ointment like a bloodhound.... He would have to find a way. He didn't want anyone to think he was at less than 100% for this mission.... The thought of being sidelined because of the injury was almost more than he could handle...

Yuuki Mifune

Yuuki stopped, turning to face the new voice that has joined them in the room. The boy could only stare in a rather dumbstruck silence at the new arrival. This was some kind of joke, right? They honestly couldn't have been given a teammate that was late because he couldn't pick an outfit. Not to mention his very apparent dislike of dirt. With their mission dealing with the underground tunnels in Koseki, this could be a very long mission . . .

Snapping out of it, Yuuki turned back to Kazuo as their sensei began a brief description of their target. His mismatched gaze studied the picture, looking to commit it to memory. As long as none of the thieves Kota was running around with didn't know any jutsu, it really should be a simple mission once they actually located the kid.

Well, kid probably wasn't the right term seeing as how he was actually older than Yuuki....

But anyway, it should still be an easy mission. Though Yuuki wasn't so sure about them having to be gone overnight, but that really just depends on how long they end up running circles in the tunnels. Without a word, he slipped out through the window after Ryunosuke, easily landing beside him. Again those eyes of his moved to the blade tucked in their sensei's belt. He remembered Tsubaki mentioning Kazuo was a skilled swordsman, maybe he could show Yuuki a thing or two.

Granted he would probably have to ask first.

Ayumu sighed, being the last to leave. His opinion of his unostentatious teammates wasn't much higher.

"Friendly lot, aren't they? No matter, I won't be looked down on, I'll give them all a show worth their while. Hmpf, they don't even have to know my little secret, I know I'm useful, so will they soon enough."

With that, in another display of colors, Ayumu took off, gladly jumping out the window, leaving the dirty classroom and following behind. His bright colors made him look like a flying swan from the rooftops. Their target's lack of fashion was disturbing, but looking around him, that seemed to be the world. It was up to him to make it fabulous.

Keeping up with the rest, Ayumu decided to be useful rather than stay in an unfabulous uselessness.

"So that is the info we have on the target, what is our strategy exactly once we meet the family? Should we gather info on this gang first? Or simply capture him blindly, and run as if our lives depended on it? Or plain take out the gang? As I said, I am here to be useful, I intend on proving it, if you all will let me."

"We shall discuss strategy when we get there, the family will have extra information along with more accurate places he may be. We are heading into unexplored territory, atleast for you three." the man stated as he began to dash up to a rooftop, expecting them to follow, they must begin to travel immediately, and they must be atleast to follow at this much of a pace.

He continued to speak regardless. "We don't have the liberty of having time to stand still and train, once we hit the main gate, we will be marching right towards Koseki. The faster this is done, the faster we can begin proper training. But that does not mean you should rush yourselves, haste can result in grave mistak-" His words were immedately ended by the sudden appearance of a pidgeon in his face.

The bird and man collided fast enough that the bird was more or less knocked out immedately, flipping head over tail feathers in the air before it landed on the rooftop in a stunned heap.

Kazou himself seemed uneffected, save for the feathers that filled his hair now. His face, that of stone... and his words gone quiet.

He stopped moving and held up a hand to the young men, a grave look upon his face. "...You three will learn a dire lesson this day, and I am sorry that you must learn it now... There is little time to explain it, but... Run!" As he spoke the feeling of hundreds of small beady angry eyes upon the group was felt upon everybody in the area.

Kazou began to run faster, his haste and power behind each step left small impacts as the creatures came upon the group, a merciless cloud of anger, death, and feathers.

The pidgeons rise!

Run for your lives!

Yuuki Mifune

Yuuki sprung after Kazuo as the Jounin made his way to the rooftops, explaining their mission. Maybe they would luck out and the kid's parents had more helpful information. At the very least maybe something to help narrow the search. Yuuki honestly wasn't all that sure of what to expect. This may not have been his first mission, but all the ones he'd been on so far were more along the lines of helping people with their errands. Sure there was that missing cat, but that's different than a kid that's gone and joined up with some band of thieves.

The Gennin skidded to a halt after Kazuo's collision with the hapless pigeon. Stifling a laugh was . . . difficult to say the least. But at least the man managed to keep a straight face with all the feathers stuck to him. A frown crept onto Yuuki's face at their sensei's sudden change of tone. "Run?" He gave his teammates a confused glance. Out of the corner of his eyes he saw it. "What the . . . ?"

It was approaching quickly. An angry mass of feathers and pain.

"You gotta be kidding me!" He was soon tailing the Jounin in a dead sprint.

Like hell he was going to die a feathery death today.

Ayumu Susumu

Ayumu nodded to the info. He could wait til they got there, all that mattered to him was proving he was a capable ninja.... while looking fabulous of course. The prospect of travelling with a pack of mute pleebs was unpleasant, but he could imagine worse.

He continued listening to sensei, before sensei ran dead into a bird. Ayumu raised an amused eyebrow.

Not a word.

Well, his sensei did not move like a swan, that was certain. Sensei moved back with a face of stone, and Ayumu figured they would continue in their silent advance, before the sensei seemed perturbed by the rats with wings.

Ayumu could only give an exacerbated shrug, his hands hidden in his sleeves, and roll his eyes.

"For the love of.... last thing I need is bird feathers, least of all pidgeon feathers on me. Maybe peacock feather, that I wouldn't mine.*Sigh*"

He turned to Ryu, whose name he didn't know. "Teammate, might I ask a favor? Would you mind making a clone, and using this"

A smokebomb popped out his sleeves like magic. "-Infront of a wall? I figure that might distract those rats with wings, maybe even smash them into the wall. I would, but your clones would look so much cuter."

Without waiting a response, Ayumu tossed the smoke bomb to Ryu, and ran like hell.

When Kazou sensei ran into the pigeon, Ryu's face could have been a dead ringer for Kazou's stone face that followed. As a maintenance worker, he had found out the hard way that the pigeons of Kemuri were not to be trifled with. One time, he had accidentally dislodged a pigeon nest, and spent the next hour fleeing from an angry swarm of evil little buggers.

Now, in most places, pigeons aren't that dangerous, but in Kemuri, they were quite capable of hitting as hard as any punch, and get enough of them together, and they can be rather dangerous. Ryu was just about to take off after his sensei when a smokebomb landed in his hand. His eyebrow twitched just a little bit in irritation. For one thing, Ayumu didn't even stop to consider that maybe, just maybe, Ryu didn't know how to make any clones beyond the basic ones taught at the Academy, and those ones were just stand ins, they couldn't use a smoke bomb.

Of course, Ryu had ways around this issue, the problem is that idiotic dirt-o-phobe didn't know that, and simply assumed Ryu was capable of something he wasn't. This started to give Ryu a sneaking suspicion that this one would end up getting him killed...

At that point though, he noticed something. Kazou was very quick, as you would expect from a Jonin, and Yuuki seemed able to keep up, even now thanks to constant kenjutsu practice, but Ayumu? Ayumu was steadily falling behind. No wonder the kid had tried to come up with a plan instead of just outrunning the buggers like Kazou Sensei. Even Ryu could outrun the buggers rather easily thanks to precise chakra control in his feet, but it seemed Ayumu didn't have that advantage.

'So that's why...'

Well, it wasn't in Ryu's nature to screw over a teammate, even one as obnoxious as Ayumu. Besides, the smokebomb would help for what he had next. He didn't move, letting the pigeons get steadily closer as he removed the cap from the scroll on his back. With just one hand making a sign, an aqua jet shot forth like a cannon from the opening, punching a hole through the wall of feathery death. He turned around to face the swarm, a smirk on his lips as he watched the pissed off pigeons regroup, angrier than ever.

"What's wrong? Don't like a bath? Well then come and get me if I pissed you off so much!" Ryu taunted, his feet glowing as he focused his chakra, suddenly launching off in another direction away from the others. This was a technique very similar to the one to stick to walls. Instead of using his chakra to hold on, however, he was doing the opposite, using his chakra to push off faster than he could do normally. He was making a dead bolt towards one of the tallest buildings in town, taking it at such an angle that the pigeons would lose sight of his team in the process. Even at this speed, the pigeon pursuit was slowly gaining on him.

If any on the team looked back, the last thing they'd see before he disappeared around the building was the pigeons just a couple feet behind him and closing fast. In the next instant, the smoke bomb detonated and they could hear the impact as the disoriented pigeons crashed into the wall of the building.

Only from this angle, there was no way to tell if Ryu had evaded them before impact... If he hadn't....

Well, it's a good thing Kazou's a medic....

What kind of sick joke was this? They were shinobi! Bringers of death, harbingers of ruin, weavers of illusion and experts of stealth. Yet here they were, running for their lives from a group of pissed off birds. Not just any birds either . . .

FUCKING PIGEONS!

This had to be some kind of elaborate ruse set up by Kazuo, right?

...Right?

Judging by their instructor's near panicked pace, the Gennin was guessing 'no' on that one. Of all the ways to start our first mission... He glanced back over his shoulder to see if the other two were at least following. Instead all he saw was Ayumu tossing a smoke bomb to Ryunosuke before taking off. Judging by Ryu's face he hadn't asked for the bomb either. To leave a teammate behind like that . . . even if he was able to create a rather impressive diversion.

"Just great," Yuuki growled already forming a hand sign and disappearing. Shunshin no jutsu, the body flicker technique allowed shinobi to move short distances faster than normal eyes could track. The still fresh Gennin's chakra control wasn't fine tuned just yet so some may have been wasted in the dash to get his teammate from trouble. But that didn't concern Yuuki at the moment - and truth be told he likely wasn't even aware of it yet - right now getting back to Ryu was the priority.

The birds were relentless, their undying need to peck and claw unsaitable by any means....

Save for a brick wall.

Most all the pigeons crashed directly into the wall with a thump of feathers on stone, not dead, but disoriented. Some unconscious, but can the same be said of our hero Ryonosuke? Was he alright? The only way to know... was to brave the smoke, to find the young man admist the swirling mass of feathers, smoke, and rage.

Kazou stood nearby, his eyes watching the mess below. "Ryonosuke... brave yet foolish... reminds me of somebody. Let us see if he needs medical attention." the man stated as he hopped towards where the impact site lay.

Hopefully, his student was still in one piece, if not....

Well...

The man prepared his healing palm jutsu, just in case.

(take us away one, I'm just a narrator and leash holder :P )

After he had vanished from sight, Ryu had picked up his pace, putting some distance between himself and the pigeons as the wall drew closer. On the last rooftop before hitting the wall, Ryu threw down the smoke bomb with one hand, while the other formed the handsign for his Mind Projection Jutsu. He leaped forward, twisting in the air to face the birds. Those that came through the smoke only saw a hand, floating on its own with one finger extended as Ryu gave the birds the bird, his hand disappearing last of all.

Between these last buildings, there is a narrow alleyway, scarcely large enough for two grown shinobi to walk shoulder to shoulder through it. As the last of his body vanished, he dropped into this alleyway, completely unseen by the pigeons as they all slammed into the wall above. The second his feet touched the ground below, he pushed the chakra through his feet and shot out of the alley, so none of the falling pigeons would land on him.

A smirk was across his lips. His plan had gone off flawlessly... He ran up a nearby wall on the far side of the building the pigeons had collided into and searched around for his team, shocked to seem them all bounding towards the pigeons. Just as they got even with him, he dropped his jutsu, his body slowly materializing before them. "Where are you guys going? Isn't Koseki the other way?" He asked curiously.

He hadn't thought for a second that they would double back for him. Sure, it's exactly the kind of thing he would do in their shoes, but given how readily Ayumu threw him under the bus....

Fortunately, there was not a scratch on Ryunosuke's body, at least, none from the pigeons. His hair was still carefully arranged to cover his left eye, where bandages and ointment were trying to treat the injury his foreman gave him.
