Longing to the desert sands, a polluted area where all societies drop their wasteful products . From these wasteful dumps lies the toxicités that rise in the lands and the salvage that some of the poorest use to thrive, DAE is no exception as he uses everything from the salvage piles and heaps to use to his advantage, worn out helmets with a bit of duct tape and melted metal will make a perfectly useable helmet , ready for war, broken tools can be repaired and fixed, and even the food in extreme cases can be salvageable but only' cery rare instances,

Reguardless of the hidden treasures there he somehow makes through in this inhospitable land .. his duty is to protect a relic specially given to him from generation to generation with the trust of preservation of the material..

Alright.

I think it's time to start taking steps towards starting, and that means confirmation.

Respond to the thread. That's all you need to do. If you don't confirm before next Friday, you get the boot. If there's something that'll prevent you confirming, PM me about it.

I'll also let you guys start on any IC flashbacks leading up to the present-tense roleplay.

(Also, please answer this survey if you haven't already: Where should our roleplay start off in? Survey It's so I can figure out our starting place.)

(Edit: Please answer this survey since the last one ended in a tie: Where should we start off for our roleplay? Survey )

Alright.

I've thought long and hard over where our starting place should be.

Using the results from both surveys, I've made a choice.

We will start out in Pearl City, a fictional medium-sized city in the UK.

Thank you everyone for voting!

We'll start this Friday after everyone has gotten a chance to confirm.

Yep! That's how you're supposed to confirm.

(There's still some people that haven't confirmed yet, I'm giving them til Friday to do so.)

Jade Emperor Jade Emperor SP3CT3R SP3CT3R Since you didn't confirm within the time given, you're out. Sorry.

Everyone else can start posting their first IC posts. Sorry for being a day late, I had some personal issues to deal with.

(Or I could start by setting up the mood. That works too.)

A drizzle fell from the sky that was covered in a light gray icing of clouds. Everything was soaked from the rain that had carried on since the night before. Puddles dotted just about every imperfection in the sidewalk. Boardwalk was turned from a soft auburn to a murky brown. Water dripped off trees at a quick pace, green leaves were smacked about like a punching bag at the gym, and moisture slithered off the bark like a transparent snake. This however, didn't stop anyone from going out. A giant collective shield of umbrellas covered the streets, most a lifeless black, but some a pop of color. Under one of these umbrellas stood Ash, her eyes not focused on the increasing downpour, but on the sidewalk near her feet. On the concrete near the intricate fountain, a faded drawing of a complex rainbow laid, mostly faded away, colors bleeding to nothing. Ashlynn's eyes didn't hold sadness or anger, but acceptance and disappointment. Yes, she had spent a good amount of time on that sketch, but it was only a drawing, and there'd always be more. Reaching to her side, she turned up the volume to the already loud classical music she was listening to. Closing her eyes, she savored the sound. Thinking instead of what more productive things she could be doing, she turned around, and walked towards the nearby library.

There was never a bad day to go biking. At least, that's how Cleo saw it. Most would shy away from outdoor activities in the middle of a rainshower, but Cleo wasn't most people. In fact, she preferred playing sports in the rain. There was something about how the rain scrambled up the air, a certain energy that came with the renewal of moisture in the earth. She felt it too, a deep-seated agitation that coursed through her bones like electricity and told her to get up and go. Or maybe it was just the fact that she couldn't bear to sit still in a house for a full day. Whatever it was, Cleo decided that biking was a great way to use up this excess energy so she went into her basement, grabbed her bike and headed outside into the rain.

The best part about her house, aside from having a great ocean view, was the fact that it was on the top of a hill. This meant that biking was all the more fun. Cleo looked down at the town while she strapped on her helmet, watching the umbrellas flow and skitter along the sidewalks like ants. Her blue eyes glittered with excitement as they traced the course she was going to take, mentally taking note of which obstacles would be the most exciting to overcome. The last thing she did before she begun was to place earbuds in her ears and crank up the volume. Then she kicked off.

Cleo rode down the hill, accelerating faster and faster until the rain pelted against her face like bullets. Despite their sting, an infectious smile began to creep across her face and once it had taken form there wasn't a thing she could do to get rid of it. She couldn't help it but let out a whoop of delight as she blazed down the road, laughing at the startled faces of the townspeople she whizzed by. By now most residents had seen or heard of the crazy Aussie who moved to Pearl City over a year ago. Her most notable contribution was the creation of a surfing club, but unfortunately her reputation of 'disrupting the peace in search of thrills' greatly overshadowed that. Then again, Cleo didn't really care.

When the road evened out she still had a lot of built up momentum, but she didn't let it stop there. She peddled like crazy to keep up to speed, weaving through the passerbys like hurdles, causing a few to jump out of the way. Soon there came a narrowing of the sidewalk and the density of people became too thick to weave between. Obstacle 1, she thought and turned her head to a parked car carrier, its ramp lowered. Cleo ascended up it, then jumped off the truck and over the throng of people, making sure to spin her bike in the air.

"G'day!" she exclaimed cheerfully, startling half of the people below.

As she landed she could faintly hear someone shout after her, but the music drowned them out.

(Who's shouting after Cleo? NPC or player character? Just confused, that's all.)

NPC, or your chick if you really want. Left it open for you to decide if you want your character to see the scene, be someone that Cleo leapt over, or not even notice until later ;)

Ash approached the library, and as she pulled open the door she felt her umbrella shudder. As she turned her head she noted someone zipping away on a bicycle. Deciding it wasn't her business, she entered the near empty library. The front desk sat next to the door, to the right of it an ocean of bookcases, and to the left a scattering of furniture and a row of desktop computers. Next to the desktops were even more books, and beyond the bookcases at the back were some cases of some scientific specimens. Turning to the right, she shuffled over to an empty cushioned chair and closed her eyes. Listening to her song fade out, a new one started, this time an older pop song she hadn't heard in a while. Her mind drifted to a childhood memory of when she had first heard it, and her face twisted into a small smile.

“Wow Jiahao, you’re not as dumb as you look.”

The violet-haired boy briefly stopped writing down notes to glare up at the obnoxious male across the table from him. His expression was one of complete and utter vexation–not that it really meant anything as Alex was most likely used to it from the many years the two knew each other.

“Aiya. Biántái. Your words are headache-inducing. Go away,” Jiahao grunted, turning his attention back to his medical textbook.

“I would like to confirm my pastry loving friend,” There was a pause for emphasis for the words following, “that I do not care.” Alex’s response was clipped yet playful as a grin bit at the short haired boy’s lips. Continuing to tap the keys on his laptop a gleam in his eye confirmed that, yes, he was quite enjoying their interaction.

“Okay. Bye then.”

They were currently in the public library getting work done for their respective college classes; Jiahao was trying to tackle his seemingly never-ending workload while Alex was... well, Jiahao didn’t particularly care about what he was doing. What he did know, however, was that his presence was completely unnecessary and it actually hindered his focus quite a bit, which needed to come to an end.

After he stuffed his papers into his textbook and picked it up, Jiahao promptly stood from his place and began towards the exit, not bothering to check if Alex was following him or not–which, he was.

Problematic, was the one word that crossed through the young adult’s mind as he stood just outside the entrance to the intricately-designed building, his hair, clothes, and dust mask immediately falling victim to the wetness of the heavy rain. Beyond all of that, there was a crazy girl causing commotion with her bike and yelling in such a repugnant manner. The most troubling component about the entire situation at hand was the fact that she was getting closer and closer, ultimately dragging her redundancy along with her and nearer to the one person who was already irked to no end.

▿

aiya – an exclamation of surprise or blame. In Jiahao's case, it was one of the latter.
biántái – a rather rude way to address someone, roughly translating to 'pervert'.

A grimace was earned from the brunette as he watched Jiahao shove his papers into the book, so unorganized he thought, his eyebrows twitching upwards on his face as he observed his violet friend shuffle off towards the exit.

“What a drama queen.”

Closing the computer before sliding it into his messenger bag, Alex followed suit, only hesitating a moment when he spotted a girl smiling to herself in the comfort of a plush seat. Nothing too strange about it he supposed, maybe she was listening to a nice song, which would be supported by the headphones visible from this distance. Or perhaps she was plotting a murder of mankind and this library was her first target and he should really leave her alone and not stare at her.

Nodding with this observation he flashed a smile in her direction, despite her eyes being closed, who knows maybe she could see. He continued in his path to stand by the door pulling out his bright cyan blue umbrella, preparing to step out as well and invite Jiahao to go to the pastry shop before going home. However, he had yet to open the door and was not looking to see the girl on the bike.

By some twist of fate, Ash opened her eyes to a sight different to the one she had closed them to. Some guy was smiling at her--friendly it seemed--and to her that meant a million conclusions filling her head like a swarm of bees. Simply noting her existence? No, too friendly. Possibly looking for a friendship and/or relationship? No, too faint. Giving herself a soft punch in the side, she swatted away the panic-filled flies in her head. Why was she making such a big deal of this anyways? He was just a guy. All she really needed to do was make an appropriate greeting like she did to anyone who didn't just pass her by. Pausing the nostalgic song, she whipped off her headphones to around her neck.

Taking a deep breath, she spat out without a thought, "HimynameisAshIwasjustenjoyingsomemusicIdidn'tseeyouthereI'msorry."

For a second she stood there like that was a completely valid thing to say as a greeting. That was until realization hit her like a hardened fruitcake. Face-palming and trying to pretend she wasn't completely embarrassed, her brain was busy fitting together sensible things like a jigsaw puzzle. "Oh, I seriously just said that, didn't I?" She said, nervously giggling, "What I meant to say was that I was just enjoying a nice song and I didn't exactly notice you at first. I'm Ashlynn, if that means anything at all to you."
