In a universe where humanity has become an interstellar species, heir diplomacy efforts with every species they encountered were mostly peaceful until they stumbled upon the world of Proxima- a world rich with beauty, resources, and life. One form of life is the Ahresh, a highly intelligent species known by other space-faring species for their impeccable political standards.

Having not raised a weapon for warfare in nearly a thousand years, the Ahresh were the perfect species for a splinter cell of humanity to overtake. Human-centered groups banded together and, on the day of inauguration for the Ahresh Governess, launched their siege. Killing the new governess, they fractured the global political system of the peaceful species, leading to chaos. From there, it was only a matter of weeks before the capital city of Jakuul was taken by human occupants and the Ahresh were interred in prison camps, forced to work for the expansion of humanity on their home world. The efforts to rally support from allies were quickly crushed by the destruction of transmitter satellites and stations. Even when messages did reach allies, they often refused to get involved in what would become interstellar warfare, instead offering supplies. The major military powers of the thraad, shiala, arcturians, and shesta were simply left with too little information to justify sparking an interspecies war.

A young woman named Ka'ala Darjo made her rise to notability during this time, helping to organize the still newly-reformed Ahresh military. Her big break came when a recon team recovered a young boy- a hybrid child. Scarred from battles and full of unquenchable rage, the boy was her perfect image for the rebellion.

Ha'zai Maaik was a soldier from the age of fourteen. Following the rules Ka'ala set out for him, he rallied troops from all species under the Ahresh Collective Initiative insignia through the image he projected of unity between humanity and the rest of the galaxy's species. To them, he represented hope for potential peace between the two warring species. Though, in truth, no one was truly sure if he was born of love or a violent attack. Unbeknownst to the rest of his people, Ha'zai's vision of unity was simply to please his superiors. Away from cameras and reporters, the young soldier was outspoken about his anti-human ideals.

Rising through the ranks, Ha'zai became the face of the Ahresh Collective Initiative. At the age of twenty-six, he became the Commander of the unit he was trained in as a child. After a prison break gone wrong- leading to the loss of an entire squadron of Ahresh soldiers and nearly fatal injuries to himself- he was given command of his own ship, the Ahresh Collective Initiative Ship Horizon. The ACIS Horizon needed a crew and, as Fleet Admiral, Ka'ala was more than happy to provide. Ha'zai never expected her politics to leak so far into his life. When a strong, intelligent, human soldier is assigned to his squad, he must face his largest biases. What will happen when the legendary Commander Maaik is paired toe-to-toe with an equally exceptional human woman as his new Executive Officer?
