Rwby: Wendigo Hunters

1607203758350.png

The town of Jubilee, in the north of Anima under Mistra, was an outskirts town like many other. It had its own unlicensed hunters, and if one was to grow up there, one was expected to be tough. Even the shopkeepers were known to have a list of killed Grimm, and Grimm masks adorned every public building around. The Grimm weren't feared, and ironically because they weren't feared, they would rarely come or be attracted to the village.

The town was founded on a floating gravity dust island in the far north, making it both cold and hard to get to. But such was life. And life was good. Until about 5 years ago.

Wendigo was its name. And it was a Grimm like no one in the town had ever fought before. Large as several buildings put together, it was a fearsome sight. It's black skin was stretched over white bone so tightly the bones protruded through in several places. Its awful wail could wake the dead.

It took everything the village had to kill it. Several homes were smashed, and the glutton ate about 20 villagers before a hole to the chest killed it, causing it to collapse. Yet something was odd. It wasn't disappearing. Coughing up bones, it stood again. And rampaged.

This occurred twice more before the villagers fled. Few made it out alive. Those that did were indeed bitter about it, and swore and oath of blood to hunt down the Wendigo that had ruined their homes. They formed a tight knit hunter group, the Wendigo Hunters. Some called them mercenaries, and they were happy to get paid for their services, but they had something more on their mind.

Every Spring they would emerge out of the frozen floating isles, and join the communities of Anima. Laugh, drink, kill Grimm. They'd even challenge a local smaller academy to a few games, show they what real huntsmen are like. They were constantly picking up new huntsman from the seniors who wanted to be like them. But they had one condition. No 'ace students'. "We're all on a death march... we'll take the worst you got."

To a failing student, it was often a last chance. Whoever joined the Wendigo Hunters WOULD become a huntsman, but the hunt was tough, and many wouldn't make it... but for the chance to live their dreams, many took it.

Then winter began, every year, the Wendigo Hunters, would walk into the first blizzard of winter, and start their hunt again.

Sometimes they fought the Wendigo. Sometimes they failed. But it refuses to go down. And likewise, the Wendigo hunters refuse to stop hunting it....

Winter is coming.

To the students of Secluse who have... elected the path of the Wendigo Hunters, they are leaving Bellebel at the Winter Solstice. You are to report to their camp by 10 am on that day. Be there... or else.

Report to Beryl Rodsen to earn your certification, and to register officially. Good luck, and may the Brothers keep you safe.

Headmaster Greysen.

----------------------------------

A cold wind cut through the beach where the Wendigo Hunter's camp was. Ice had already begun to freeze part of the ocean, creeping further and further into the water with small islands of ice floating off in the distance. An array of shadows blocked out the sun just as it was rising behind the floating islands, making it not harsh on the eyes.

All around the new huntsmen and huntresses, the Wendigo Hunter's were busy taking down camp, and transporting materials. A single steel line could be seen from a station on the beach. A purple pulse came from it, and suddenly a large package, weighing over literally a ton flew out of the station on a hanger, sparks left behind showering the beach behind it, making it the most noticeable part of the camp, everyone too busy hustling and bustling to help or answer questions the new arrivals might help. Shouting came from the station.

"What the hell are you doing!? There's nobody on the other side set to secure those items!"

"Oh. Whoops. Guess better send someone to secure it."

"What do you mean 'whoops'! That was our ammo for the wint-----eeeeeer!" The station pulsed purple again, and shot up the steel cable a huntress could be seen flying backwards, using a sections sword that extended into a whip to grab onto the cable even as she flew back. "ROUX! YOU ASSHOLE!"
"Gwahahahaha!"

Walking out the station, a short man with biceps the size of tree trunks, a man wearing armor, and a set of goggles laughed, before seeing the new arrivals. He had a toothy grin, though he was missing a few teeth, and a beard down to his gut.

"Ah! There's our new recruits! Gwehehehe. I love new recruits.

Welcome to the Wendigo Hunters! I'm Roux, I'm the engineer round here. I operate the cables, do all the weapon repairs, design stuff, and all around am pretty good with my hands. You guys are supposed to meet with Beryl, right? Well, we got a bit of a problem so far. He's setting up camp on the first island. But, heh, you're all huntsmen, right...? How's your landing strategies? Life goes fast... "

He motioned to the inside of the station, which was a dome with a floor filled with gravity dust which literally functioned as a cannon up the cables and into the sky.

"Gunna take me a minute there to get everything up and ready. I maaaay have spent most of the floor on the first shot there... and the second shot. Poor Lapiz. Why don't'cha all introduce yourselves. We'll be spending a lot of time together. What are your hobbies, weapons, and, oh, wait, no it's ready."

He slammed his hand down on a button... and a loud 'thwoop' could be sound as the floor itself began to rise... and then launch itself skyward, like an elevator rapidly rising, but without an actual floor to hold them up beneath it. To their sides, various loose ends from the previous supply launch could be seen, a few stray ropes, several boxes in the sky, and a couple shards of dust.

"They make it seem like we had a choice."

Umbra echoed the words in the message she was holding as her ears twitched in annoyance, the words rang hollow to her as they likely knew what they were doing but they all likely had little choice in the matter. Really it was either this or be a lone wolf mercenary or outlaw, really both professions sounded just as dangerous and at least here they could still teach her how to control her abilities. Not to mention to prove the fools that sent her here how wrong they were!

Putting the scroll away she looked to the others that were also waiting for their introduction into the Wendigo Hunters, thankfully some familiar faces caught her eye to keep her calm. Though that did not last as someone was suddenly shot up into the sky! Umbra's ears flattening back worried that was the only way that they would be getting up to where they were going...

Sadly her fears were proven true as they were ushered into the station, and at the mention of landing strategies she knew that she was not going to like this part one bit. Though at least the launchers were different from the ones in school, maybe it would not be as sudden?

"Big monsters I can handle, but dont you have a ladder or some-, GRAAH!"

She KNEW it!

Twisting around she spotted a spanner flipping in the air from the last launch, grabbing it at the same moment she extended her glaive and disjointed it into a chain to wrap around and pull her towards the cable. Her steel bottomed boots caused sparks to kick off from the metal of the cable as she pressed herself against it, giving her a perch to take the spanner and bite into it, ripping a piece off like it was made of taffy before chewing it.

With a grin she retracted the weapon and replaced it on her back, now using her clawed hand that had been coated in steel to keep steady, knowing they were in for a rough landing Reaching for for the nearest thing she was just fine putting large claw marks into the rocks and cliffs around and kicking up rubble in order to land safely. If they wanted neatness they should make normal elevators!

Forest Honeyhand

Forest stood admist the group who would be sent off to find their erstwhile leader. The world around him buzzed with activity, people working, people husselling, people busseling, the birds signing, the workers swearing like sailors, the sailors swearing like workers... It was a place where one could find chaos no matter where you looked. But for Forest, it mattered little, he had finished up with a nap on the transport and in truth was still rather groggy from it, so he sort of simply put in his headphones and listened to some nice music...

Yea...

Just walking along where you gotta go...

Listening to some music...

Ignore people yelling, ignore the fact some folks look familiar....

...Wait...

"..Oh, its Umbra. Sup, how're yea-"

Without another thought, he was launched into the sky, how he had not noticed this launch pad? Why was he currently flying through the sky?

Hey is that a goose-

Impacting hard against the flying goose the steady flight upwards to the cables now turned into a spiralling mess of stupidity as he was sent head over feet into the sky, it was by pure luck that he hit the cable, much less grabbed onto it, or perhaps his arm and coat got tangled onto it , but either way his aura was stress tested by the slide along the cable towards where he was suppoused to go.

His landing was no less graceful, as he was swiftly deposited upon the ground right next to Umbra like a UPS driver delivers a extremely fragile package. face first into the dirt, he struggled to get up once more after that rough treatment. Headphones dangling from his neck, thoroughly tangled and his face graced by a layer of dirt.

"...Oww..."

Ever the eloquent fellow.

Forest has entered the scene.

Watching as the others started to join her on the floating island Umbra was surprised to see Forest land next to her, she could have sworn the ground shook when the big guy landed! "The smoothest of landings Forest." She said with a toothy grin as she reached down to start helping him back up onto his feet, the metal claws vanishing as she reached out along with the metal across her arms.

One thing she was glad for was that some of her friends were here as well, sure it was not the best outcome but being alone would have been far worse for any of them. "Well, while we wait, let's fix you up. Come on, there is plenty of seating." The landing space had lots of things scattered around, showing just how desperate they were with accidentally scattering their supplies in order just to get them up here but it as better than nothing she guessed.

"Have you seen Midas? I could have sworn he was right behind me at one point."

Reaching back she took the small thread from around her neck and applied it to her hair to make a ponytail, a half hearted attempt to make her hair neater after the launch had happened. After she made sure to take a seat on one of the supply crates, watching others fall like rain was also a funny pass time so it was at least not boring.

"You would think someone who stands out THAT much wouldn't be hard to spot."

As she kept an eye out for any golden colored objects falling from the sky she looked to forest, offering out a small cleanish rag from her pocket. "Need a little cleaning up there?" Either way they had time to kill but she knew better to ask Forest to work out, that would involve moving! "You know, so far? Not as strict as I was expecting. I was thinking more military like. Not fling teens into the sky and see if they land.. you know, like school."

To say she was beautiful would be putting it lightly. To Liebe she was a goddess of beauty, a beacon of joy, truly the pinnacle of beauty. Umbra didn't remember the moment like Liebe did, the moment they meet and Liebe became absolutely infatuated with her. It was a simple day like any other. Liebe was walking the halls and Umbra passed and said. "Hey." Just like that sparks flew and Liebe was in love.....no seriously that's all that happened.

From that point forward Liebe followed and kept tabs on Umbra. It wasn't stalking it was simply enjoying the view. What a view it was indeed, Liebe couldn't count the amount of times she spent just staring at Umbra. If she wasn't staring at Umbra she was staring at a picture of Umbra that she had gotten through potentially illegal means. All this following and sta- I mean view enjoying had lead Liebe to learn Umbra was going to be joining the Wendigo Hunters. The idea of fighting side by side with Umbra doing battle with her and being able to save her life. Then they'd hold each other close as the fierce cold raged on with only the warmth of each other to keep them warm it was perfect.

So before she even realized it Liebe had followed Umbra all the way to camp. Walking close enough to keep her in view but not too close that she was noticed. Could you imagine how hard it'd be to talk to her right now. Liebe could barely talk to her photo of Umbra but she was still sure her love was getting through to Umbra. After all she once saw her eat a strawberry and Liebe loves strawberries which meant Umbra knew this and ate one in front of her so that she could tell her that she loves strawberries as well to show that she by extension of that loves Liebe because as it's been established Liebe in fact loves strawberries an- why was she in the air.

Liebe took a second to register what was going on. Looking around she could see that they had been shot into the air. She spotted Umbra grinding along the rail like the absolute badass she was and tried to figure out how to copy it. She pulled out her twin swords lovely and kiss and flung then at the rail, still holding onto the threads tied to them. Yanking herself towards the rail and using her swords to balance herself. It was going well until a goose collided with something and then in turn collided with her. Knocking her off balance and sent her spiraling towards the ground. Liebe was sure she was going to die but her impact wasn't that hard it was actually kinda nice. Looking down she had landed on the back of who she regonized as Forest Honeyhand.

Did he purposefully let her fall on him? He risked his own body to protect Liebe? How romantic.....suddenly a quiet snap could be heard by Umbra if she bothered to listen, and if Forest bothered to notice a red string now attached itself to his ring finger. Liebe looked up to see...what was her name again? Brumbra, Sunbra.....Umbra that's right she saw Umbra and smiled. "Rough landing huh." She joked.

Forest Honeyhand

"...Right... Thank-" he was about to grab the handkerchief before he was smashed into the ground by an incoming projectile once more. This face hit the ground with a loud thud and the rest of him followed as the crater was made just abit big and Forest shaped by the second impact. Planting his right hand upon the ground, then following with the left, he slowly began to push himself up, abit of blood tickling down from his head as the stone that lay where his head once was had been shattered somewhat.

He took a knee and shook his head, clearing off the dust before eyeing what just hit him...

....

.........

"...You are very pink..." is all he really could say to the girl before him, who has a name, as all people do, but he couldn't really remember it. Perhaps it fell out when she smashed into him? His eyes focused and he realized who this big ball of pink was. At least, what he knew OF her. he remember hearing about her before...

Something about... Uhh... What did that guy call her... Flakey...?

Forest really didn't understand what that meant, but... Flakey... like.. pie crust? Is that slang for calling her a pie?

Pie is sweet... or... Depending on what you use in it.

She doesn't look like a meat pie.

He'd call Umbra a meat pie for sure.

But this girl... maybe.. sweet as pie?

His didn't quite notice he had been staring at her for an uncomfortable length of time, before he stood up to his full height and looked towards Umbra. "Sorry... it got dirty before I could get clean.." he handed her bag the soiled handkerchief, now taking a full step out of the landing area.. or what he thought was the landing area. But what umbra had said did click in his head. "..Midas..? Midas is here?" he asked, looking up to the portion of sky he came from.

"...the launch may ruin his hair..."

Umbra watched as Forest was suddenly taken out by a flying girl in the next moment, cratering him into the ground like a tent peg which only had Umbra looking on as if she was somewhat use to this happening to the guy.

However her attention was taken away from the scene as she heard a audible snap, her wolf ears perking up and twisting around to the sound followed by her head as she raised a brow. While she expected someone to have landed nearby she could not see anyone, confused she shrugged off the sound and looked back to the girl stepping off of her friends back.

"True, but it seemed like a much softer landing for you."

A fanned smirk followed as she looked back towards forest on the ground, who was now slowly getting up as if not much had happened. Well she did not worry about if he was alright, she knew he was pretty tough after all and that was even when compared to her fully armored form.

"It's fine. We should get you cleaned up as soon as we can though."

Reaching out she took the dirty clothe from forest and simply placed it into the pouch that hung off her belt, peering up towards the sky the next moment when he mentioned about Midas and his hair messing up. "Well, he will live... Though you know, maybe we should step back a little? In case what happened to you happens again?..." She pointed her thumb towards Liebe as if to point out the possibility of weaponized people landing on Forest once more!

“There are so many of them!”

Originally, Mauve had thought this group she was joining was a desperate rag tag group with little to no organization. Like homeless people but with weapons! However, they almost seemed to make themselves out to be a militia of sorts. It was very impressive. Mauve rubbed her hand across her forehead, wiping off the sweat forming. The absolutely enormous greatsword strapped to her back was an absolute pain to carry.

A warm smile spread across Mauve’s face, as she watched the giant crate launch up to the islands above, followed by an agitated woman. It was a peculiar way to travel, but Mauve wasn’t here to cast judgement.

Next a big armored man greeted them. He was Roux, the leader apparently. He seemed handsome and trustworthy enough from first impressions, despite launching that poor woman into the atmosphere earlier. The man led them into an oddly shaped room, one that had no ceiling... before Mauve had finished thinking she had been launched into the air as if she was weightless.

It was terrifying to say the least. Mauve hadn’t been so far from the ground ever in her life. Hell, she didn’t have anything to grind on like the others seemed to.

A metal pipe suddenly flew next to her, as if consciously solving her problem. Her hand firm grasped it, and raised it anove her head to catch one of the cables just before she would have missed it. “Lucky!” Mauve exclaimed to herself, barely hanging on with the added weight on her back! With a grunt and a gasp, Mauve suddenly lost her grip, plummeting downwards.

For a moment Mauve accepted her fate. But something cushioned her landing.

“Oh?”

Mauve reached out with one of her hands, placing it on something furry. Was that an animal ear she felt? Mauve sat up, finding herself atop of big muscular girl with wolf ears!

“Oh! I’m sorry for landing on you! Please forgive me!” Still sitting atop Umbra, Mauve starting tubbing her head, figuring she’d like it considering she was a wolf faunus. Was it bad to assume so? Mauve wasn’t sure, but she went with it anyway. Hopefully she wasn’t dead.

Midas Kitrinos

“So these are the people desperate for some light in their lives huh? Welp, best give it to’em.”

The trip towards the Wendigo Hunter’s base had been a total drag, Midas absolutely loathed the cold, thus a grand majority of the journey was spent questioning why he had chosen the gelid rear of this world to begin his quest for fame. But of course he couldn’t show his brief inner struggle, so to an outsider Midas was as smug and energetic as ever, though now with the added feature of intense shivering. This whole ordeal was somewhat softened by the presence of several familiar faces, all of which he enjoyed interacting with. Still, now that he had finally arrived and seen the inhabitants of the base Midas knew that he needed to show them that their “savior” had arrived at last, and what better way to do so than by simply being himself. Wide grin, confident strut and the occasional finger guns, all staple actions from our beloved golden boy. The thing is, he was so self-absorbed in performing his very own small parade that he pretty much did not know where he was going, instead opting to absent-mindedly follow his group. Oh but don’t worry, he eventually got his bearings. But it was too late.

“Hey, where the fu-” Were his last words, a reaction to the odd platform he suddenly found himself on. In the blink of an eye Midas was now flying through the air, accompanied by the rest of the newcomers. Was this the time to scream? NO, this had been the opportunity he needed. Surely most of the camp’s residents were looking at him soaring through the air, right? Well then, this was the perfect chance to leave a lasting image of himself on their minds. And so a small struggle began, it involved Midas doing his absolute best to unstrap Greased Lightning from his back. Why? Well, what better way to leave a proper first impression than by playing a sick guitar riff while being airborne. Solid plan, poor execution, which was made even worse by the sudden cold embrace of the ground. Midas' landing consisted of him unintentionally belly flopping right into a small mound of snow, leaving an almost perfect indent of his figure on its surface. Despite the sudden collision Midas was quick to check for damage on the most important areas of his body: Nose? Still straight. Glasses? Intact. Teeth? Unharmed and shining bright as ever, baby. Blood? All still inside. Perfect, nothing to worry about. After incorporating himself and dusting off most of the snow Midas was finally able to notice the presence of his buds not too far away from his location.

“Yoooooooo! I think I got some snow in my brain.” Midas exclaimed as he approached the group. His sleazy smile widened even further when he saw the situation Umbra and Mauve found themselves in. “Oh my GOD Umbra, why don’tcha save some action for the rest of us? “ He said before howling with laughter.

Umbra simply smirked away as she watched Forest as it seemed her warning had come a little too late, as a small shadow appeared on the ground not too far away and seemed to be getting closer and closer by the moment. The girl was so confident the person was going to slam into Forest again, as if the cosmic forces of the crazy world was against him, that she stay there leaned back on the box and waiting for the impact. "Who knows, maybe he will just drop in at any moment?" However it was when the shadow passed over Forest that she raised a brow and looked up to the sky.

"Huh? GAH?!?!"

Before she could even react a TFO slammed straight into her, sending both of them tumbling back over the box and into the snow behind her, kicking up a thick cloud of powdery snow into the air. Half her body was buried in the snow from the impact, only really the top of her head was poking out, her ears twitching in slight embarrassment at the fact she knew this was karma coming back to bite her in the behind. She really should not have tried to tease Forest so much...

"Its.. fine. Really"

The muffled voice came from the snow, but slowly she started to raise up from it, until she felt her head being rubbed between her ears which made her take pause. Was she being petted? Was this racist or was it a misunderstand? More importantly did she really truly mind? All those questions soon got tossed out of her head as she heard Midas coming over towards them, damn did she miss his landing? She bet it was one of the smoothest and flashy landings they had all done, but that didn't matter right now, why was this human still on top of her.

Raising up from the snow she reached out to try and lift Mauve up the same way one would pick up a cat on their chest "I am Umbra by the way. At least the landing was soft heh." She mentioned as she finally stood and placed Mauve down onto the ground as well before she shivered to get rid of the snow clinging to her body and hair. A small glare was thrown towards Midas at the comment "Oh, funny~ No, no we were just playing in the snow. Here, let me show you" Opening up her arms she took a menacing step towards Midas with a big fanged grin, oh she was going to mess up his hair SO BAD for that comment if she caught him!

Well the universe works in mysterious ways many people say but being transferred to a whole new academy with no one he knows nor any better alternative to give him Wynell would say the universe is working against him. He sighs while walking in a small crowd trying to seem invisible but his height and tattoos made him stand out somewhat but it seemed like other than him people seem rather surprised how well organized and the Wendigo Hunters were as many of their members seemed pretty strong. He isn't gonna lie he's kind of impressed as it looks pretty damn promising and can maybe actually help him with his abilities. He bumps into someone and mumbles sorry and then when the person grabs and turns him around Wynell feelings got the best of him and he grabbed the person's hand and gave him the coldest stare he could manage and said in his regular voice just a little more raspy "If you like your fingers it's best you keep them to yourself" he then shook the person's hand off and walked away leaving the guy stuck in a mix of shock and fear. He popped his collar up on his coat and throw on his hoodie he didn't mind the cold he just didn't feel like being too social today as that encounter just ruined his whole mood and probably didn't mark such a first good impression on new people who were watching that encounter.

As pissed as he was though he moved on into the station while looking at the rather short man who seemed a little too eager too send us "To the other side" whatever that means though it didn't seem like much at first when he saw the first batch of people get launched he knew it was all bad. "It's only the first day and they're already trying to kill us.....what the hell did I get myself into" he said to himself as getting launched in the air wasn't the best way of starting off a good relationship with new recruits but it'll leave a lasting impression indeed. He honestly just hoped this Roux fellow knew what he was doing because he kind of just chilled at the back of the crowd watching the groups go by before cursing at himself and stepping up to the platform he sighed to himself and looked over to the grinning Roux over to the side. "Man this is some shIIIIIIIII-" he couldn't finish his sentence from the rapid movement up he sees the cables and thinks "Maybe it's not as dangerous as I thought" he was soon proven wrong as on his flight upward he crashed into one a cable and started spinning in the air out of control. "FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCK" Wynell thinks in panic mode and then he sees the ground with the other members so he has an idea. He stops panicking and the when his back is towards the ground he grabs the holster and pulls the small trigger mechanism shooting his sword out forward, he grabs it with his free hand and before it can finish blasting him back he uses his 3x accel to make the push a lot faster and when he sees he's close enough to the ground he throws his sword making it impale the ground and then landing beside it but grabbing the handle before he hits the ground to spread some of the impact to his blade. His plan worked a lot better than he though as he would say it even looked badass but he wouldn't really know. Though standing up his hoodie fell off and his hair had started flowing with the slight wind and covered his forehead and his nose somewhat. Then he caught a hard shiver from his legs and when looking down his black sweats had tore and had a large rip on one side exposing his shin "Bro I just bought these gooooodddaammnnn" he fussed quietly before cutting the sweats down to shorts size and then holstering his katana and putting his holster back on his hip. Looking around to see where he was at he noticed he was in between a rather flashy dude with some nice looking gold hair and a rather attractive fauna who had a rather sinister looking face while staring at the gold dudes hair "Did I interrupt something" he said while looking back and forward at the two.

Liebe felt like her heart might explode, did he just say she was very pink? Pink was Liebe's favorite color it was like he knew that just from one glance at her. Truly he was the pinnacle of romance she watched as he stood up and almost fainted after seeing how tall he was. It was somewhat intimidating but that just made it hotter to Liebe. It seemed everyone's landing went just about as bad as her's. One girl even recreated the beautiful embrace of her and Forest. Though it wasn't nearly as cute or romantic.

Right after that poor imitation Liebe could hear something. It sounded like someone playing a guitar but that couldn't be right as she couldn't see anyone with an instrument anywhere. That's when the very person playing fell from the sky landing in a pile of snow. Liebe held back a laugh, that is until he shot up from the snow. Liebe froze as she watched Midas flash his smug grin and walk towards them with such swagger. He was like a celebrity, plus he had just played the sickest guitar riff she had ever heard. Granted it was the first she had really heard but that doesn't change how sick it was.

He was perfect, and just like that a snap could be heard once again, this time by Forest. The red thread now connecting to Midas' ring finger. Liebe rushed to his side jumping up and down. "That was so cool Midas, you and me should totally rock out some time together. I play drums ya know!" She totally didn't but how hard could banging on some drums with sticks be? Plus it'd be the perfect chance to get some alone time with Midas. They could even write a love song together and play it for their kids!

Forest Honeyhand

"..." Now, Forest was a gentleman, a good boy who does nothing wrong... Intentionally. But giving a look at the first new lady who, quite litterally dropped in, he couldn't help but notice her prodigious...Hair...

True, her falling flat on his shaggy friend may have aided this note becoming forthwith in his mind, given both had some... Very nice hair...

He was a growing man, noticing these things is normal. No problem, as long as he doesn't stare.

But, well, now he had a different person drop in.

"Man of the hour, Coming in with a rift... Sounds like you Midas." He speaks with one of those half smiles, before it dissappears into his typical lazy grouchy look that seems forever plastered on his face. But... Well... Guess he pissed off Umbra already. Pretty quickly, might be a new record... Might have to step in.

The big man took a few steps forward... before not doing much of anything. Actually, he may as well get a better look at what shes gonna do to the guy.

Beri
As Midas strummed his guitar solo mid flight, earlier flung supplies fell around him, including two crates of dusts on either side of him. The vibrations suddenly caused them to explode behind him on either side in a sudden column of sparks, making a blinding display behind him as he landed, the fireworks illuminating his frame all the way down.

The floating island was far enough away that the camp being taken down looked like dots below. Roux's figure could just barely be seen, with his hands on his hips, and laughing his ass off below.

Around them, frozen pines could be seen, snow dripping off the trees in a the rapid advent of new arrivals. One particular branch began to buckle under the weight of the fallen snow, before dipping down, and dumping a large load of snow over Mauve, turning her into an impromptu snow(wo)man. A bullet casing fell from a tree, completing the snowman nose.

The top of the island wasn't exactly quiet though. The banging of hammers, ruffle of movement, and yelling all in the distance made it quite loud. A little bit in the distance into the woods, the group could see camp being set up.

Many huntsmen setting up tents for the winter, a large bonfire suddenly blazing high into the heavens as it was set up, more yelling and mad laughter, a cross being unfurled over the medical tent, the entire area was abuzz with activity. The earlier huntress could be seen scrambling in the snow for scattered supplies, which had slammed into a tree, and exploded across the snow. Much griping was involved.

From the camp, a rather lithe man with a large slouch hat began to make his way towards the group. He stopped to light a cigar, taking them all in. He stood straight, with a rather commanding posture... which was a pity as he barely came up to Forrest's chest. Taking a puff, he threw cards at all of them, looking like sim chips. Each chip was signed ~Beryl Rodsen, with his motif, a bullet shooting a mobius loop. The man infront of them had the same insignia on his shoulders.

"Put those into your scrolls. They're your huntsmen licenses. Also a few upgrades to your scroll, has a map of the area with cable points, teammates aura's, a bestiary, and any tracks we think might be the Wendigo."

He took another large drag, and let whisp come from his lips.

"You kids are in for a long winter... Us Wendigo Hunter's have one goal, kill the Wendigo, but we also tend to cull Grimm in the area for the locals, so they tend to like us, see? So... we're always busy. I don't care what your grades are, work hard you'll figure it out. Your aura and semblance grow according to your need, and you learn about weapons as you use. There isn't a substitute for experience. School can go f-"

"Beryl! Be professional for the students!" The woman gathering spilled ammo censored him from the distance. Beryl rolled his eyes.

"Right." He dragged his cigar again.

"See 6 of you. Good.... Right, well, we're getting to work right now. Break up however you like. But we got two missions for ya while we're setting up camp.

First one. One of Roux's cable's to camp site #2 snapped. None of us know what kinda claw marks those are. Go find out. Update the bestiary when you find out. And see if you can't take a welding tool from camp to patch it til we can send Roux to properly repair it. Should take 3 of you. Can't go directly there, but can go around.

Second one. We found human foot prints, fresh in the snow next to camp site #3. No body but us Wendigo Hunter's here in Winter. It's not right... Might be someone trying raid the dust mine. Someone fucks that one up-"

"BERYL!"
"Ugh... someone messes that one up, could cause whole floating island to collapse. But probably isn't anything. Go see if you see anyone in the area. A'ight, break up how you want, I'll be setting up camp. Oh, that's right... anything goes too bad, take these."

He tossed two flare guns into the group, one at Umbra, and one at Liebe.

"Introduce yourselves when you get back."

Taking one more step Umbra did not keen on giving up trying to bully Midas just a little bit for his comment from before, and she knew that Forest was not likely to take the effort to really stop her! "Oh no, everything is fine~" Saying that in a almost sing song type voice at Wynell as her eyes never left her friend, after all she had to make sure he did not run away, but it seemed like the universe was VERY protective over Midas' style! Liebe hopping out in front of him like a fangirl was the first protective measure, a meat shield was effective but Beryl coming over and starting to explain was like cake icing on that shield, as if the cosmos was a momma lion protecting its cub all hissing and stuff, ready to bite her hand off if she tried again.

"Huh? Me?"

Catching the flare gun she was very distracted, now she had a cool new toy to play with but not only that but there was a mission they had to accomplish, at least this was not any boring studying! "Alright then! I am going to head out to the caves and this odd guy then. I can fight without using dust in the minds, just in case." Not to mention the mystery but that was something she was keeping to herself for the time being!

Gesturing out to the others around she waved her arm "Anyone who want to come with me? It will likely be much warmer in the caves, heh." If she had a tail it would be wagging in excitment as she grinned away, or did she have a hidden tail? Did Faunus have both ears and tails? No one knew, it was one of those strange things that some swear it was one thing and one another, even among Faunus. Like that thing about that bear story book. Now all she had to do was wait for others to join, but first she asked Beryl something "So, what DO we do if we find someone? Violence allowed? A little beatdown? Ask them to come with and then beatdown? Is there anything else we should do while there?"

"...No offense, I think i'll go with the other job..." he sends a finger gun Midas' way as a way to say sup bro. "Kinda... wana try the cables without... Fucking up this time..." he notes as he eyes the other girl with the flare, wondering where she is going... If she wants to go through with the other missions she'll need to hand it off.

Or not.

Ain't up to him, he ain't about to steal it anyhow.

Ther big bear of a man let out a long yawn and... began looking around the camp for the blow torch, didn't take long to find, hell it was in plain sight, laying on the ground, ripe for the picking. It's like somebody put it there so he could easily find it if he put his mind to looking for it. Just right in his path. Huh, coincidence. he leaned down and reached for it, missing in his lazy swipe, sort of turning it over as his hand didn't have a good grip. He sighed, shuffling abit closer and swiping again, his hand dinked off the handle, hurting him abit.

With a long, resigned sigh, he slowly knealt down, slowly grasped the blow torch, and lifted it up, feeling abit more stupid for having to take his time picking up an object, as if the basic human acts became so much more difficult.

At least it wasn't a coin on the ground, trying desperately to pick up a flat coin with big grabby hands is true hell.

"...Whos comin?"

They say the smallest things make the biggest difference, well that sure seemed to be the case with just how much stuff began taking place after Midas’ playful comment. For starters we have Umbra’s “sophisticated” response. That expression, that pose and those sly footsteps, Midas was all too familiar with all of them. He knew that the integrity of his hair was in danger. Without a moment to spare Midas took up a defensive stance, which simply consisted of him slowly backing away while both of his karate chopping hands took the occasional wild swing at the air. “We’ve been here before Umbra, I ain’t about to let you get away with hairmicide again.” Warned Midas, who at this point had lowered the pitch of his voice in an attempt to sound more threating. Not like that would do anything, experience told him that any and all actions were useless when it came to fending off this wolf faunus. Unless divine intervention took place his hair was gonna be butchered one way or another.

*CRASH*

"Bro I just bought these gooooodddaammnnn. Did I interrupt something?”
Ah, so heaven was in fact looking after Midas. Blessed. No need to be so worried anymore, he had just acquired the perfect shield to use against Umbra. “Not at all, just stand riiiiiight there and be sure not to move an inch. This is a life or death situation we’re in.” Midas said while looking over his savior’s shoulder, firing off a mocking expression right towards Umbra. With his composure now regained Midas was able to tackle the next interaction in his own overly-confident way.

"That was so cool Midas, you and me should totally rock out some time together. I play drums ya know!"

After a loud “HA!” Midas proceeded to plant his hand right on top of Liebe’s head, it sure felt good to have his greatness properly recognized once in a while. “If that’s the case then it looks like I just found the perfect bandmate, looking forward to it Li!” He exclaimed, his smug grin now being displayed at full capacity. Now, due to how full of himself he felt at that moment Midas failed to notice the newly acquired red thread on his ring finger, which is for the best because knowing him he would’ve probably thought that it was one of his veins that had come out after that rough perfect landing.

What did in fact catch his attention was the “warm” welcome delivered by a gruff-looking fellah who went by the name of Beryl. Midas listened attentively to what he had to say and almost immediately knew the mission he wanted to take: Catching the stalkers of the dust mine. His reasoning for this choice was simple, if he were to apprehend some ruffians and send them off to jail then surely they would begin spreading the news of a dashing blond fellow being the one who took them down, and what a boost to his fame that would be. Such a flawless plan, which was immediately scrapped once he saw who would be coming with him.

"Anyone who want to come with me? It will likely be much warmer in the caves, heh." Midas quietly stared at Umbra for a few seconds before doing a full 180° turn and heading towards Forest. He placed a hand on the bear faunus’ shoulder and greeted him with a thumps up and an ecstatic sounding voice. “Don’t worry bro, I’ve always got your back.”

Liebe felt an arrow strike her heart when Midas smiled at her. It was truly something crafted by the heavens. To top it off he agreed to letting her play with him. He even gave her a cute nickname!? Her hand shot up to her nose and she turned away. Trying to make sure he didn't notice her nose start to bleed from excitement. She was so wrapped up in not looking lame in front of Midas she didn't notice the flare tossed at her. It smacked her in the back of her head, after which she caught it out of the air.

When she honestly thought about it all the jobs given to them sounded incredibly dangerous. Especially for the extremely non-combatant Liebe. These worries and nerves were all buried when she realized this was a chance for her. Hearing Midas was heading to the cables with Forest, she immediately rushed over. Rubbing elbows with Midas she spoke as if marking her turf. "Guess I'll head out with Midas and Forest then that makes three!" She smiled ear to ear now if only Forest could read the room and walk a bit farther away from the two of them.

Despite being a snowman, Mauve smiled as everyone picked which task they would handle first. Unfortunately, Mauve was unable to voice her need to fight the Grimm from inside of all the snow. However, checking out some mines would be interesting as well. She wanted to see what these bandits were all about. Was there a lot to gain from robbing people up here? Were they not afraid of Grimm and hunters? These were questions Mauve wanted to have answered. Hopefully she wouldn’t have to hurt any of them too badly.

Finally Mauve managed to free her lips from snow around her head.

“I’ll accompany those venturing into the mines. While I may not be so useful inside of them, I can at least guard the entrance!”

Using such a large weapon underground would prove difficult, but Mauve didn’t intend to let that stop her from being useful! Fists never let anyone down!

Hearing girl speak to him in such a sweet tone was nice but kind of creepy at the same time as she did not match the voice as her body language was stiff and her eyes were trained like she was gonna pounce and he landed right in the way and then the response of the rather bright man made him sigh and shake his head before playing with his hair and saying to the blonde dude "You owe me for this........." he quieted out when he saw the small pink girl rush him and take his attention away and shook his head. He then noticed a man walk up to him and give him options to choose whether he wants to go be a detective or a crocodile Dundee hunting for wild Grimm he can annoy. He sighed and made his choose immediately went with the fauna that got the flare tossed to her and mentioned the caves he saw earlier because she choose to go to the caves. But before he did that he walked up to the snowman girl and pulled her out of her icy shell "It's an adorable look on you but unless you plan to freeze the grimm to death the snowman look isn't gonna do much" he smiled warmly at her before walking off. He then walked pasted the fauna girl and said "I can simply be a nice medium man I can watch your back in the caves and provide back-up in the front if you need it." he threw up finger guns at her and then put his hands in his pockets out of slight embarrassment. He watched the other people interact from the back of his group and talked and assumed they already know each other and smirked to himself "What a cool little group of friends we got here" he looked at each of them and studied them before sighing and accidentally saying out loud but maybe for only either the fauna girl or the great-sword girl to hear...or maybe even both "I'm almost jealous" while looking up and the falling snow flakes.

To Umbra's question, Beryl gave a gruff grunt, before trying to take another drag from his cigar... only to find it gone. "Tch." He flicked the butt away, and let smoke slowly exhale from his mouth before leaning against a tree.

"Depends on what they're doing. We just gotta assess if they're going to bring down the whole damn mine shaft. If it's some corporate schmuck... kill'em. I don't care."

"Bery-"

"I know, woman! Tch. Drive them out with extreme prejudice then. If it's not a corporate schmuck, like an actual huntsman or something, suppose ain't no harm in just figurin' em out. Of course, it's something else, I'll... leave it up to your digression. You're huntsmen now, you deal with it. We just don't want anyone actually harvesting that mine. "

Waiting a minute, he then gave a growl and a nod to Midas and Leibe.

"Talking about music, I'm not sure when you expect me to be nice and give you a good old holiday... but set up on the north side of camp. You'll find a few others like you there. Long as you're off the clock, I don't care what you do."

Cable Team
---------------------------

Forest would get his wish as a few regular cable uses, as with the straight path to Winter Camp #2 out, the group would be forced to take the long way around. The inside of the launch pads were all similar to the one from Bellebel shore. A launch button would send each one flying across cables to the next flying island. There was still gravity dust in them from last winter. Though the cables had had nearly a year of neglect since then.

The three would see in the distance of across there path a ghost town, deserted, and long since destroyed, snow covering much of what had once been there. A sign hung half off of it, reading 'Jubi-' before being covered in ice.

The group would finally find the launch pad, with the cable completely frayed and snapped. A large lash across part of the floor showed that it had not snapped without recoil. The frayed cable, however, seemed strangely out of place. There had been no excessive weight on it, but teeth marks could be seen across it, all across one side, chewing down the bolts that had held it in tension.

A chittering could be heard from the first nearby, and similar teeth marks could be seen across the trees, leading to a grove in the center, likely where the Grimm was.

There were no footprints with the teeth marks however.

Mine Team
--------------------------------------

And luckily for Umbra, the path of the Mine Team had far few cables for her to cross. Unluckily for her, that number was still two.

Oddly enough, as the two began to approach the final island on their map, the snow, while still falling, never really touched the ground. A small sizzle could be heard as it touched the ground, and immediately evaporated to the touch.

Upon closer inspection, parts of the ground glowed with a red hue, and seemed almost super hot to the touch. It would literally begin to melt shoes if stepped on. The trees and greenery were much more abundant around the mine, some fire dust mixed in with it making it naturally more hospitable.

It would certainly help with Mauve's earlier snowwoman adventures, and in warming her up.

Several foot prints began to show on the ground, most of them of hte same size. One set led into the mine itself, but oddly, most of them climbed around the hill the mine shaft was in, and over the crest of it, in some mad stampede.

Umbra was rather excited to be going on a mission, more so since her friends were here so they could go together! Well that is what the wolf faunus thought but it seemed the teams had naturally formed and Forest and Midas were on the other team, making her a little disappointed as her ears visibly drooped down.

"Don't get into too much trouble alright? See you later!"

Though otherwise she did not seem affected, those damned ears gave away her real feelings far too often! Thankfully she was one to bounce back soon enough, turning to the other two who were going to be joining her which made her raise a brow.. Did Mauve somehow fall back into the snow when she was not looking? And the other guy did not seem to know how to act, cute in a way, but she did nod and give them a thumbs up.

"Alright then, let's get moving shall we?"

Mine Time
--------------------------------------

"So much warm~!"

Umbra smiled away as her ears twitched happily, super glad by the time they had reached the mine as it seemed it was much warmer than it had been while traveling here. "Just avoid stepping on the any steaming spots and we should be fine." Really if she practiced more in using dust this place would have been a gold mine in getting extra ammo, well maybe she would pick up a dust crystal or two.

Peering down towards the footprints that had been reported Umbra looked at the cave entrance and the strange formations that the footprints seemed to take. "A trap...?" It was as if animal instincts were driving her, or being untrustworthy of grimms intelligence. "If we follow the ones inside, whoever went above the mine may come around and block off any escape. Still, we have little choice unless we want to split up." That was a bad idea in her mind... mainly due to the horror movies she watched on the scroll now and then.

Wynell first noticed that the fauna when looking at the other team ears drooped and scratched his head out of curiosity and raised his finger wanting to ask a question but quickly dropped it when she turned around to face him. Wynell smiled though when seeing the fauna nod and give him a thumbs up back "Well it's not a bad first impression" he whispered to himself while following the two girls. He noticed that they had to cross some more cables again and cursed while rubbing his legs to keep them warm for a few minutes.

Crossing the cables sucked......he didn't mess up it just felt like he was in the air for too long and it gave him butterflies while coming down which felt super awkward and made the landing even harder. Though finally arriving to the mine he noticed it seemed to be a lot warmer in certain spaces due to dust and tried to stay close without burning himself as his legs were probably gonna fall off if they got any colder. He saw the fauna ears perk up in the corner of his eyes and she seemed visibly happy and smiled "Well I guess I'm not the only one whos damn happy....wait what is her name?" he whispered to himself and facepalmed himself. He's on a mission with people who names he doesn't even know.....he sighed at the thought of it every time but like the old dude said they'll introduce themselves later. Though looking at the prints he noticed the pattern "Yea well whatever's in the mine it's not many maybe one or two but it seems like they were in a rush? It might be a trap or it might be something more dangerous around here for us." he said to the other two and then he pointed at the majority of the tracks. "They mainly scatter around and over the hill so if you want we can actually peek over the hill to see if they were just running away or to a flanking point it's up to you though." he smirked and threw a finger gun at the Umbra and then walked by the two so he was in front only to stand by a warm spot.
