Advice/Help quest rps?

I don't really know how to categorize this so i'm just going to throw it here for now. I keep seeing the tab for quest rps and i'm really curious, what are they? is it like a text based rpg where someone sort of plays game master for a world and the other person plays a character? or am I missing something entirely?

 

[Idea]

Quest RPs are an RP styled like a choose your own adventure book. You have a person running the RP that writes the entries and offers options for other people (aka the players) to vote for to determine the direction of the story, actions of the character or whatever else one decides to make the choices about. To the extent that it’s an RP, it’s due to the interactive element of the voting determining the progress of the story that is written in response to it rather than pre-written like a book would be.


Depending on the person running the quest RP there may or not be characters that players make, or there may be or other mechanics in the RP etc…
