Welcome to the Wonderful World of Pokémon!

Setting off larger-than-life, breathtaking forms with equal majesty and miniature—the world of Pokémon truly is a world of wonder and awe! A wealth of creatures grace every nook and cranny: they fill the oceans; thrive in the mountains; soar high over the horizons and share sparkling landscapes and cities!


Some are masters of the heavens above; others, caretakers & helpmates of the earth below—watchful eyes and ears throughout recorded history and beyond! Over the years, countless varieties of Pokémon have developed, and researchers have discovered hundreds of different types, but many more are yet to be discovered! Try and count them if you dare, but then—try and count the grains of sand on your favorite beach. We may never truly know their full extent, but one thing is certain—every Pokémon expresses life uniquely!


Today, there are people who collect Pokémon and train hard, striving for their dreams and ambitions. They embark on grand journeys, full of excitement, but full of challenges too. Being a trainer requires dedication and spirit! It is a long and difficult road, but those who travel it oft find friends along the way.


Together humans and Pokémon carry on, facing new challenges and sharing new adventures that will become the tales of tomorrow—but even tomorrow’s stories may have started long ago…

Hello! And welcome to our RP! We're a group of RPers who've recently migrated onto RPNation and are looking to open the doors to some new members!


This RP draws from the extended Poké-Verse. What does that mean? It means we use a combination of canons: Main Series Games, side games, Anime, Manga, etc. Now, among all these canons we use the

Main Series Games

primarily, so we're game-primacy and the events of the main series games are considered to have been historical for the purposes of the RP, and all other canons are used in a supplementary fashion; they provide extensive world-building, locations, technology, etc.


The RP is designed to be a sandbox where characters can explore all the wonders of pokémon and RPers can nerd out over our beloved franchise.

The Setting

This RP is takes place eight (8) years after the events of Sword & Shield and we follow a 'custom' timeline. The timeline is as follows:

FRLG/ORAS > 3 years > HGSS/Platinum > 2 years > BW > 2 years > BW2/XY > 2 years > USUM/SwSh > 2 years > SV > 6 Years > RP Start

The settings is, well—the entire pokémon world! Want to do Pokémon Showcases in Kalos? Go right ahead. The Island Trials of Alola? Sure! A classic Gym challenge in Sinnoh? Knock yourself out! Some custom plot designed for your OC but set in Almia? Be my guest.


The World is your oyster, explore to your heart's content!


There's SO...SOO much to the Pokémon World that's just lighly brushed on—Islands of Giant Pokémon; lost Civilizations sunk just off the coast of Kanto; there is a literal FREAKING portal to the Spirit World just sitting there in Sinnoh!


This is a Sandbox-styled Rp after all, so you're encouraged you 'chart your own journey'!


Of course, with such an extensive world and many freedoms comes the rules needed to ensure everyone involved can enjoy those freedoms...

Spoiler: Canonical Game Timeline

This is the timeline as taken from Bulbupedia's page on the history of the Pokémon World. The period between Gen 4 & Gen 5 is taken to be roughly 12-13 years because of the following:

Porygon's Pokédex entries in Pokémon Sun, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon state that it was created 20 years ago. Pocket Monsters Encyclopedia states that Porygon was created in 1995, as well as stating that 150 species of Pokémon have been discovered as of 1996, alluding to the player having completed their Pokédex in Pokémon Red and Green, thus implying that Pokémon Red and Green take place in either 1995 or 1996. This would mean that Pokémon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon take place 19-20 years after Pokémon Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow; from this information and the time lengths between other games in the series, it can be calculated that the time period between Generation II/IV and Pokémon Black and White is 12-13 years long. However, the length of this time gap has never been explicitly confirmed in any official material.

  This RP uses a soft move limit. Under the soft move limit, Pokémon are able to use up to eight (8) moves at maximum efficiency. These eight moves are referred to as 'Battle Ready' moves.   Short Answer, Ocs are allowed to catch/have legendary pokémon; however, you cannot start with them, please earn them in RP. They are considered Restricted Pokémon, more on that later.

  To obtain a Restricted Pokémon please submit an application detailing how your OC will obtain this Pokémon. Please remember that these pokémon are considered extremely rare and immensely powerful, they should not be obtained easily or quickly.   Pokémon is a story about Growth and we want to see just that—Growth.   Please keep relationships to major canon characters at a reasonable level—minimum, if possible.   While 'levels' as a game mechanic don't translate that well to RP, they are a very useful metric for measuring a pokémon's strength and progress.   Unlike the games, it is not feasible to become the Champion of a region or obtain incredibly high-level Pokémon within one year. Do be mindful of your power escalation and how quickly you are evolving & strengthening your pokémon.
  
  
  
  
  
  
  

  
  
  

  
  
  

  
  
  

  
  

  I'll cut straight to the chase—OCs are not Ash Ketchum! The eternal 10-year-old exhibits feats well beyond human resilience. While it's fine to pull a few gags where an OC gets hit by a pokémon move, do remember that these creatures possess immense power.   Re: the Above, one of those caveats is superhumans. Simply put, they exist. There are people in the pokémon world with all sorts of strange powers: Psychic Abilities, Aura, Fighting Specialists, etc. These exist and they're allowed, but try not to go overboard—again, discretion!

  Disputes surrounding PvP can be settled in one of a few ways, the RPers involved get to decide which:

  A lot of mechanics in the world of pokémon simply do not translate well to Role Play. This ruleset be updated as we encounter these problems, but for now here are how the following mechanics are handled:
  
  
  
  
  

  
  
  

  
  
  

  
  
  

  
  

  Egg Moves:
  
  
  Every Pokémon has a parent and we use the latest generation's breeding mechanic, this means a pokémon can inherit all potential egg moves from both parents. Chain Breeding is indeed possible, but you aren't likely to find a chain-bred Pokémon in the wild. Pokémon who are chain-bred should have more concrete reasons for why they are so. Do take note of parentage if you are adding egg moves to your Pokémon.
  
  
  
  
  
  
  

  
  
  

  
  
  

  
  
  

  
  

  Evasion:
  
  
  Dodge spamming is ofc, frowned upon. At the same time, moves like Minimize which literally shrinks the pokémon can make them harder to hit in some ways, but easier to hit in others. Here, we'll have to ask that you practice discretion and exercise your judgment. We will step in where necessary.
  
  
  
  
  
  
  

  
  
  

  
  
  

  
  
  

  
  

  Accuracy:
  
  
  Perfect Accuracy moves do not work in an RP setting as moves can be blocked or evaded with creativity and other methods. Not to mention we don't want to Auto hits. In RP, perfect accuracy moves are treated as moves that the pokémon can exercise great control over, thus allowing them to produce a 'homing' effect that makes them harder to evade.
  
  
  Other moves that have low Accuracy, such as Sing, just cannot feasibly 'miss' if the target is within hearing range. While accuracy could be adapted as a 'failure rate' or some other mechanic, ultimately we don't want to roll that many dice in an RP setting. The RP opens up other ways to evade these moves such as drowning them out with a louder move (Uproar) or taking advantage of how they would work. Again, practice discretion and exercise your judgment!
  
  
  
  
  
  
  

  
  
  

  
  
  

  
  
  

  
  

  Priority:
  
  
  We've been around a pokémon RP or two and I know priority tends to be used in a variety of ways. Sometimes it's a Quick Attack–enabled burst of speed to rush down an opponent or escape a dodge situation and other times it's something else entirely. I don't intend to set strict rules on how priority moves are used, RPers can exercise their creative liberties and once again—say it with me now—discretion!
  
  
  That said, we will be treating priority brackets as a measure of the move's 'start-up time'. A very low-priority move like Trick Room cannot be used at the drop of a time, it will take at least some measure of time for the pokémon to gather all the energy needed to distort dimensions and what have you. Now, this does not mean it has to take you several posts or several seconds in RP, but it does mean a low-priority move *cough* Teleport *cough* should not be used as an immediate get-out-of-jail-free card.
  
  
  
  
  
  
  

  
  
  

  
  
  

  
  
  

  
  

  Move Tutoring:
  
  
  With adequate training and writing, Pokemon can tutor each other—much like Ash's Buizel was able to learn Ice Punch or his Staravia was able to learn Brave Bird.
  
  
  If you have a Pokémon that naturally learns flamethrower, they can tutor it to another Pokémon who can learn flamethrower via TM, Level Up, etc. This process is NEITHER swift nor easy and should take time to learn and master, preferably upwards of a week or so. Q3. Are you committed to any one version of the entire pokémon world? Or how is the entire pokémon world handled in RP?​

Good Question! Our stance is that all the pokémon regions are roughly in the same position as their real-world counterparts. So Galar is where the UK is and Kalos is where France is, etc. This allows us to fill in the gaps in the pokémon world by supplementing it with real-world locations and points of interest in the real world.

Important!​

This RP uses an on-and-off season for Pokémon Leagues, much like real-life sports. So please be aware of them when creating your character.

specters totally depends on the group you're with. The idea is to separate regions by threads so you guys can progress comfortably without having to worry about being left behind or posting too much. You could even go solo for a while if you want, making postings speed entirely up to you. Even events will be accessible despite your current progress, as long as you keep your headed updated you can be in several places in different times, just make sure to follow continuity when doing so.

As long as you can post once every week or so then we should be good. Sometimes the frequency will increase, for example during Gym battles where a lot of shorter back-to-back posts can happen.

I will note that some RPers and their group like to post faster, but if you avoid those then you'll be fine.
