Kanto Region

Be advised: as suggested by their unified Pokémon League & shared Champion, the Kanto region along with its sister-region of Johto are treated as 2-halves of the larger Indigo Region.

  • Kanto is geographically similar to likely to be based off: the Kanto region in Japan.

Kanto as a real country, map by u/Vathareon.

Having arrived at the Kanto Region, by Via boat, Lotus was standing on the Pier of the docking bay gleaming happily as any young child could be as she was excited to train and catch as many Pokemon as she could as a Pokemon trainer and become the pokemon champion within a region so she could be something that her younger sister could talk about.

"Watch out Kanto! Here comes Lotus, Your New Pokemon Champion!"

Several people stared at Lotus a little confused and some were mildly irritated by the loud shout, which The Unovian shrinks a little in embarrassment as she sheepishly rubs the back of her head. "Ehehehe, My Bad."She apologized. Suddenly coming out of her Pokeball as her best friend/Partner in crime, A Dewott remarkably nicknamed Heero came out looking excited and curious about his new surroundings.

"Dewott? Dew.... Wott!"

Heero seemed remarkably impressed and ready to prank on some unsuspecting humans and Pokemon as well, Which in terms Lotus chuckles. "Yeah.... We're in Kanto Finally.... my Journey truly begins to become the best there is!" She exclaimed. Heero looked at his trainer pumped up and excited. "Let's go!" She exclaimed happily with the Dewott following in tow, which he is cheering.

March 25th - Time: 10:25 AM

Location: Vermillion City

Lotus was running excitedly as she was within Vermillion City, seeing trainers around with their Pokemon and hearing a couple of Pidgeys flying above her in the cloudy sky. Heero was following behind looking around curiously with Lotus, Choosing which victim to pull an unsuspecting prank on any Pokemon or human as he also had to keep track of Lotus, due to how fast the kid was and how quickly he could lose her... There has been more than one accident with that occurring and with him losing track of his partner. With it being 10 AM, time slowly hit the Approaching noon hours as it was early spring.. and the temperatures being just right... including the skies being full of clouds indicating rain coming in sooner or later.....

Lotus was goggling around staring around her first city as her running slowed down to a halt... with Heero accidentally bumping into her startling her a little bit. "Oh Sorry, Heero!" She said. Heero rubbed his snout in annoyance as the Dewott looked at his partner annoyed, She was in awe of it and the Seaside from within the docks as she took in the beauty as she couldn't wait to battle other trainers and tell her younger sister about her pokemon Journey. But then Heero spots the perfect Victim, an unsuspecting Nidorino who was currently munching on his Pokemon food, as he was sitting not far from his pokemon Trainer.

Heero Smiled Mischeviously and suddenly, tugged at Lotus's Skirt.

"Dewott! Dew! Wott! Dewott!"

Lotus looks down at her Partner. "What is it, Heero?" Then the Dewott points to the Unsuspecting Nidorino and looks at her with a mischievous look as in with in Return, Lotus smirks deviously.... as if knowing Heero's intentions. "A Prank.... Huh? Let's Do it." She said chuckling mischievously as she claps her hands a little with her partner smirking...

"Now, Let's figure out how to get the Prank underway...."
"Dewott!"

GYM LEADER

Seafoam Islands, Fire Gym, Kanto.

The job had kept Maker entertained for a while, but not all good things lasted forever. She had taken many challengers, some easier than others. The fun part of the being a gym leader was, she got to experiment different strategies and combinations against all kinds of trainers. The down side? She never got to go all out. She always had to handicap herself to give them a fighting change, to test them to see if they were worthy enough to get the badge, that was it. The leader before her had been known for being one of the toughest in Kanto, trainers feared Blaine and his hot headed quizzes. Maker on the other hand, wanted to just fight.

Every time she felt she was overpowering her opponent, she would have her Pokemon slow down, give them an opening and hope they capitalize on it. Sadly, a lot of them didn't and they ended up challenging her two to five times again before finally getting the victory. Was she strict? Maybe, but it made her want to become an Elite Four member even more. Once she was unchained, allowed to go all out against challengers, that's when she would be truly happy. Meanwhile, she would wait, wait for someone to show up and entertain her in the mean time.

After the Prank, Which ended up going wrong as Lotus did not want to talk about it. They ended up with the two trying to do the Lure and scare prank but it ended up with.... Cinder coming out of his pokeball once the Nidoran came close to them and attacking with Metal Claw, Turns out an accidental pokemon battle happened and Lotus needed to get Cinder back into his pokeball before he could cause more trouble and had to apologize to his trainer after the battle, because the Nidoran fainted in battle and she had to heal one of his pokemon in advance with a Heal Potion which was a good thing she had that in handy. Its just that Lotus wonders why does Cinder attack any pokemon that even comes close? That questions Plauged the back of her mind.

"Dewott?"

Snapping out of her thoughts of hearing her partner, She smiled."Yeah, I'm fine... don't worry Heero." She said. Lotus had an idea and so with an excited look, she pumps her fist up into the sky and declared: "I'm going to Challenge a Gym! and I'm going to win!" Heero was excited on the prospect of a battle and wanted to fight. "Wott? Deeeewott!" He exclaimed. But then Lotus realized something." I dunno where the Gym is at, Huh..." She mumbles. The water Type comically falls to the ground, caught off guard by that.

"Maybe, We should look around." She said. Quickly rasing himself up, Heero follows his trainer happily as the two runs around the city in search for the gym occasionally asking where the pokemon gym is located. Later on the duo finds the Gym with the red haired girl opening the door a little nervous but excited for a chance to get her second gym badge. "Uhh, Heeellooo? Anyone here?" She called out.

"Welcome champion in the making!" The gym aide smiled and waved at the new challenger, "I'm here to give you some advice. Lucky for you, Lt. Surge doesn't have his traps on today! So, you can go straight to challenge, unless you want to test yourself against the gym trainers first. Anyways, Lt. Surge is an all American soldier! He zaps his enemies before they can even fight back! Water and Flying Pokemon will have a tough time against him." The aide adjusted his glasses, with a happy smile as he offered a Water Bottle. "Take this, you can't use it during the match, but you can before it. So, what's your name and how many Pokemon will you be using? Is this your first gym challenge? Please, register your trainer card to the PC next to me and you'll be set to go, good luck!"

The lightning American sat on his throne, watching his gym trainers battle each other as a warm up while others were running around the battle field, the popular song by ACDC, Thunder, blasted on the speakers. It had been a while since he got a challenger, but it was to be expected, the electric expert wasn't known for going easy on his opponents and always tormenting his victims before claiming victory.

Looking quite in awe, around her surroundings she watched the gym trainers battle with Heero following close by also mesmerized by the battles but somewhat curious. Both of them jumped back a little startled by the aide, with he Dewott jumping in his trainer's arms, But immediately calms down and takes the water bottle happily after placing down Heero who was still froze in his startlement. "Thanks, My name is Lotus Avery! I will be using three Pokemon, This is my second gym by the way so I'm getting used to gym battles." She said as she took out her Trainer ID and placed it on the PC as it registers her. "Its quite fun challenging others, So i hope this Pokemon Gym battle goes well"

Shaking his hand on noticing his trainer's determination and excitement. "Dewott!" The Water type musters up the most bravest expression he could pull off as Lotus glances at her partner in anticipation and excitement. Lotus may not now what LT Surge got up is sleeve in a pokemon battle and.... She knew she was at a little disadvantage in pokemon typing as she was slightly having to resort to improvising in battle, due to two out of three of her pokemon at being in a typing disadvantage but she was going worry about that Later, Lotus was a very determined child and winning a Gym badge no matter what was top priority! Aside from getting victory cookies if she wins

The lieutenant lowered his sunglasses as he set his eyes on the happy trainer. A smirk appeared on his face as he rose to his feet, towering above the others with his immense height. He walked down to the battlefield, raising his hand as he did so, his ace Raichu giving the challenger a mean smug. "Halt! Get the arena ready, we got a challenger."

As he spoke, the trainers stopped their battling and exercising, quickly moving to the bleachers as the gym leader stood across the challenger while hanging his sunglasses on his muscle shirt. "Welcome to the Vermillion City Gym. I'm Lt. Surge, the lightning American. It seems you've decided to face me early on your league challenge. That's probably the worst decision in your life kid, I'm going to zap you just like I zapped my enemies in war!"

The veteran took out his first Poke Ball, tossing it into the air and releasing a Magnemite. The gym aide stood in the middle of the field and raise his right hand. "The battle between Lotus and Lt. Surge will now begin! Each trainer can use up to three Pokemon. The challenger may switch out any time, the first to get all of their opponent's team knocked out, wins!"

He was tall, Taller than what the ten-year-old originally thought and boy was she caught off guard. Still, she immediately shook her head as LT Surge approached the battlefield with the Raichu giving a mean smug as in which irritated Heero as he growled crossing his arms annoyed. You wanna go first?" She asked. The Zangoose gave his trainer a curt nod from the side of his eye. "Zangoose." He said determined.

"Well then, Cinder! Let's do this and win! "

"ZANGOOSE!!!!" He roared ready to battle as he got into a battle stance.

"A Magmite, Huh. Not a bad choice." She said as she watched the gym leader throw a Magmite in play she decided to go first. " Cinder time to use Fury Swipe!" She commanded. So acknowledging this and charges towards the steel/electric type with his claws glowing as he leaps up and delivers the attack furiously with his swiping claws aiming to make sure deals heavy damage to the magmite.

The Fury Swipes hit the Magnemite, but the steel type barely flinched at the attack. "Ha! Should've kept your distance, kid. Thunder Wave!"

Magnemite's magnets gained a blue electric glow before starting to send waves of electricity from them. Their opponent being too close, allowed the Thunder Wave to have good accuracy.

"We're not done yet, Gyro Ball!"

Using the superior speed of the Zangoose against him, Magnemite began to spin rapidly, rolling like a Hitmontop across the ground and straight to its enemy.

Cinder growled and roared dodging the Gyro Ball by leaping into the air and once he got behind the steel type, the normal type pokemon rapidly punched the steel type pokemon extremely fiercely until he delivered the final blow with his left leg knocking the Magmite down into the ground with the Zangoose lands onto the ground right in front of the fallen pokemon.

He tossed the Poke Ball with the bolt design on it and released a Pikachu. The electric mouse landed with a confident smirk, her cheeks sparking with energy. "Let's go Pikachu, Double Team!"

Pikachu shook her head and cried out in delight before springing into a sprint directly at the Zangoose. As she did, she divided into four clones, each taking different paths towards the opponent. "Thunder Bolt!"

RON
TOWERS

Friday, June 24th, Snowpoint City.

Ron didn't really say much the entire time. Instead, he just followed and observed. Naka did what you would expect someone with her career to do. Be professional. Of course, she threw an unexpected curve here and there but mostly she kept it clean. Once the interview was over and Naka walked over to him, he just nodded towards Bushida and grabbed Naka's hands. "We need to get you a pair of glasses."

Ron and Naka were not done yet. It seemed the guardian researcher still had one more thing on her agenda. So, after making what was Ron's favorite video of all time, they went out to have a calm dinner and tried to sleep before the next day.

Saturday, June 25th, Cinnebar Island, Kanto.

Ron stepped of the plane with a load yawn. He hadn't slept much the night before since Naka had him working over time. Still, he looked damn proud of it too. Luz stretched her legs as she walked on the port. The sun was bright and Ron was not about to start sweating all over. He took off his hoodie and left on the black tank top he had under it. He rolled it up and stuffed it into his backpack.

"Kanto... feels a lot like Johto." Ron waited for Naka to catch up before putting his arm around her hip and pulling her close. "Careful. She's probably watching us already." Ron looked around with suspicion in his eyes. "Stay by my side."

They began walking into town and then quickly into the rocky area that lead towards the gym. After the volcano eruption years ago, the town had reformed and had used the same volcano to create the gym once more. This time, with technology that hopefully would let them know when it was going to go off again. As they started walking up the trail, the sun suddenly became dim. Ron looked up, squinting his eyes. "That's weird. Where did that cloud come from... ah shit! Furia!"

Ron grabbed Naka and pulled her away as Furia emerged from her confines, taking their place. A shower of flames came down on the flaming badger. Ron followed the string of Flamethrower covering his starter Pokemon and finding the source of it. A Charizard.

The orange winged beast was huge, easily bigger than Ron and any human. It flapped its winges furiosly as it kept up the fire attack. The flames slowly turned into a bright purple as the heat increased around Furia and she slowly became visible. Using her own flamethrower, she started to push back on the attack. Ron looked a bit confused, first time she saw her flames turned that color while use fire attacks.

"She's here." Ron told Naka, taking a hold of her hand.

"Enough, Charo!"

The Charizard moved out of the way as Furia's flames blasted in front of it. He flew in circles two times and then landed further up the trail, right behind a woman with blonde hair and blue eyes. She was wearing a red short sleeved hoodie over a white top. Her wavy blonde hair tied up into one tail on the side of her head. Her faced carried that same smirk Ron gave at times and the aura around her seemed to carry the same weight when Ron battled.

"Blonde, blueish eyes, really bro? Hello, mommy issues!" She called out followed by a laugh. "Seriously, you have two sister with similar traits, kinda creepy man."

Ron groaned and took a step closer. "Naka, this is my little sister, Maker."

"Honor to meet the guardian researcher." Maker jogged down the trail with her oversized Charizard staying behind. "Wow you're beautiful!"

For a second it seemed Maker was impressed by Naka, but it soon become obvious her attention had shifted to Furia. "Look at you!" The blonde ran over to the badge and began scratching her behind her ear. Surprisingly, Furia was actually enjoying it, her face looking calm for once. "Hisuian Typhlosion? It's perfect for such a queen like you! I bet he didn't even know what you turned into huh? Yeah I can tell."

Maker looked over her shoulder, "You have this poor girl frustrated and your girlfriend is being bombed online. What the fuck guys?"

Yesterday, she had made some leap, unsure if it actually paid off until Bushida contacted her. She did buy some glasses that looked like Bushida's though, and made an amazing video. She sent Ron the full video, while making a copy of a trimmed version of the video to send out to the public, getting some very disappointed people in the process.

It was honestly hilarious.

Cinnabar Island was - of course - hot. Naka was wearing a tank top with a high collar, her backpack, shorts, and combat boots. Her Pichu sat atop her head, nuzzled into the soft blondness that was the top of her head. She even got a haircut before she left for Cinnabar, getting the rest of her growing undercut buzzed down.

Naka's Flareon was walking beside her, wanting to be near Luz but not wanting to set off Ron.

Either way, Naka made sure to stay close to Ron, chuckling at his caution. "You make it sound like she's gonna seriously hurt us..." She uttered quietly.

Naka walked their way up the rocky area, her Flareon at her heel and her Pichu still in her hair. Chu nearly fell off when Ron pulled her away, sending out Furia when he realized he mistook something for a cloud. She watched with some apprehensiveness as a stream of flame from an admittedly very large Charizard covered Furia in flames, only for Furia to fight back with purple flames of her own. Did she just get stronger?

Then, the "attack" was called off. Naka didn't know what was concerning, that this person - who was apparently Ron's little sister and gym leader(?) of Cinnabar - had just let her Charizard attack them out of the blue or that she was supposed to trust that Maker will vouch for her.

Naka sighed as Maker teased Ron on his choice of girls, not having realized that Ron's mother and thus his two sisters - people she didn't know he had in his family - looked similar to her.

Maker seemed to know about Naka, so it was very likely she's quite in tune the internet. She smirked, nodding. "Nice to meet you, too." She noticed - quite quickly - that Maker had shifted over to Furia. She raised an eyebrow, watching as Furia seemed to adore Maker. Was it because of her natural affinity for Fire-Types or because she was sucking up to the badger with compliments? Then again, Furia probably doesn't feel appreciated enough, which would make sense why she was lashing out.

Naka didn't even want to answer truthfully to that question, she was probably sure Maker was aware of her loss against Candice.

"I know, quite the experience. I went to a trusted reporter yesterday. Soon, she should be texting me about the impact of my statement. At first glance though, I got a rift to form, so now we have people talking about my personal life, which I find absolutely funny." She giggled, smirking wryly. "If you help me continue the discourse online and fuel the more personal side, I'll help you with your videos. I found your Charizard video entertaining." She chuckled, having downloaded and watched the video on the plane ride here to get an idea how she worked. Fiery, passionate, aggressive... Definitely someone Naka wanted on her side.

"Sure sure don't worry we'll fix it all up."

Maker was more focused on Furia than anything else. The badger even let her open her mouth to check out her fangs. "Wow you're incredible."

Maker finally gave Furia one last pat on the head and turned to face Naka and then noticed the Flareon. "Oh! Another good looking boy!" She looked at Flareon and then at Espeon. "Well, that explains why your chest and tail are looking so nice and puffy." She sneakered and started walking up the trail once more. "Come on, I'll show you my gym."

"Why is he puffing his tail and chest, Maker?" Ron called out frustrated.

"Seriously dude, watch Pokemon Planet every now and then." Maker called out while she signaled her Charizard to take flight.

The massive dragon gave Furia a challenging look and flapped his wings to gain air. The flapping was just enough to cause small gusts of air around them, making Ron pick Luz for caution. Furia took the challenge and growled before breaking into a sprint up the trail after it.

"What's up with your Charizard?" Ron asked while shielding his eyes from the sun.

Maker didn't even turn back. "We never really get people challenging for the prestige badge. So he's eager for a good fight."

Once they reached the top, which was the crater of the volcano, the gym was visible. It had been built over it, a two story building which covered the entire area of the crater. Before the stairs that led up to it, there was a battlefield. The field where Furia and Charizard were battling.

The temperature had increased more by the collision of the purple flamethrower against the bright orange from Charizard. The flames spat across the air before both Pokémon decided to drop their attacks. Charizard enlarged his claws with dragonic enegy and blasted forward. Despite his size he was on Furia in a split second. The badger used her own paws to grasp the Dragon Claw, holding her ground as Charizard flapped his wings to bring more of his weight on her.

Furia's claws crackled as static began to build up around her front paws. Charizard jumped back just in time to avoid the badger swinging Thunder Punch. The big winged lizard seemed eager as he shot his flames into the air and flapped his massive wings. Furia cracked a sinister smirk before lunging into battle once more.

Maker didn't seem too concerned, walking through the field as attacks flew by her. Ron decided not to risk it though and took Naka around the field. They ascended the staircase up to the gym's glass door. As soon as they stepped in, the fresh ac hit. Ron sighed and let Luz down.

"Dragon Claw Charizard?" He asked.

Maker nodded and was about speak when...

"Welcome back!" A red haired pigtailed girl with a red jump suit ran up to the group. "I prepared refreshments and assigned the gym trainer's today's tasks. Also canceled your battles for today. Oh..." Her small eyes adjusted on Naka and Ron. "Guardian researcher! Pleasure to meet you. My name is Mary, Maker's main aid. Feel free to ask me anything you might need." She shook Naka's hand eagerly and then turned to Ron.

"You must be Ron. I've heard a lot of things about you. Ms. Towers said if you break up with the guardian researcher I'm next in line. Looking forward to it."

Ron looked confused and then a bit proud by the compliment? "Thanks. But aren't you too young?"

"Almost 18."

"And by that you mean...?"

"14."

Ron's expression dropped and he gave Maker an annoyed look, getting a loud laugh from his sister. "Mary, go take a break. I'll call you if anything comes up."

"Yes ma'am!" Mary bowed to excuse herself and ran off.

Maker looked at Naka and took her arm. "We have business to talk about. Ron, go fuck off somewhere else." She didn't bother to look back at the grumbling punk as she dragged Naka away.

Maker took her to the second floor and found a balcony that oversaw the battlefield hanging over the volcano.

"So, what you got in mind?"

But didn't Naka say she had dealt with the brunt of it? Did Maker not believe it was enough or was she just not paying attention?

Well, in either case, she watched as she nearly stuck her head in Furia's mouth and she had to keep herself from chuckling. Fluffy was surprised to see that Maker had noticed. Not that Luz would notice because she was blind, but it made Flareon feel self-conscious. He huffed a small ember, feeling proud as he walked alongside Naka. Naka followed Maker and stayed close to Ron, chuckling at his frustration with either Maker's behavior or the fact that it was Fluffy.

Naka wasn't about to explain it to Ron, to keep Fluffy safe.

She watched as Furia chased after Charo, heading into the battlefield. Some of Charo's earlier aggression was explained by Maker, and Naka nodded. Ah... So that was why.

Still, it didn't bode well.

Naka and her Flareon continued on, with Naka feeling butterflies in her chest and stomach at having Ron pull her away from the battlefield as the two Pokemon's war waged. As soon as they got inside, Naka stretched, and so did her Flareon. Her Pichu continued to rest on her head.

A small red-haired girl arrived, her exuberance was honestly cute and she was courteous and hospitable, too. It was only when she told Ron that she hoped to be next in line for Ron if Naka wasn't with him and said her age did Naka want to throw up in her mouth. In fact, that sour taste in her mouth was probably the precursor to that. Even Fluffy gave off a warning growl, but he didn't really do anything. He just stood in front of Ron, then looked up at him, as if concerned for him.

As far as Fluffy saw it, Ron was Naka's, and he wasn't about to have Naka's mate be taken from her because of some little girl who wasn't old enough nor did she deserve it.

Naka was then pulled away, letting herself go along and shooting Ron an apologetic look. While her Pichu stayed perched on her head, Fluffy sat obediently by Ron's heel, not moving as if guarding him. Cute, considering Furia did a much better job at that.

Meanwhile, Naka sighed as she looked over the balcony at the volcano's battlefield below. When asked, she hummed. "Well... Depends. Currently, there are those who are still criticizing me even after my statement, but the criticisms have died down somewhat. What I ended up doing was creating an account on a site famous for those uh... more lecherous videos and sent in a snippet, but it didn't get to anything juicy. Now not only do I have people making theories and criticisms about my sex life, but now they get to be teased for a practical joke." She chuckled. "But, I need more distractions. I can't do any more prestige matches. I have to wait until it dies down. What I can do is get involved in other things, make it look like it's not that much of a big deal by not putting any attention on it and it will slowly go away. I was thinking of posting a picture of myself on the beach, maybe helping in a certain someone's videos where my scientific foray could be used." She shot Maker a smug glance. "But uh... I think that's it. What I would like is for someone to go on those discussion boards and start inciting troll behavior and arguments, drowning out the noise I don't want."

She paused, and then fell silent, taking her Pichu off her head and letting the mouse lay on her arm as she soothingly pet the top of her head, getting sleepy squeaky noises as she did so. She then looked back at Maker. "Wait, how did you know I was the Guardian Researcher? Did Ron tell you? Or am I that famous?" She chuckled, though she was being half-serious with her question. She wasn't aware of Ron making a call unless she had forgotten that he did so.

Maker tapped her black nails against the rail keeping them from falling over. "Well then we will make a great team! Not as good as you and my brother though. Wish I knew that was you two in that tape..." She sighed and continued, "Look my fans know two things, I love them and I don't give a fuck if they love me or not. So, I have made this army of simps. People who defend me no matter what and love my tsundere attitude. I mean, it's natural for me, I just farmed it as soon as I found out what it was called." She leaned against the wall with a whicked grin. "Maker and Naka. Guardian Researcher and Pyro Maniac. Ying and Yang. I love it!" She clapped her hands in excitement.

"How could I not know who you are though? You challenged for a prestige badge. I keep track of challengers. I also noticed my brother in the crowd and then his Typhlosion against Candice. I did my homework." She walked over and placed her arm around Naka's shoulders. "Here's the plan. We first gather our loyal followers with a shared beach photo shoot. Then, we show your skills are irrelevant to the accusations by showing a picture of our Pokemon battle. Not the entire battle, since it's for fun. Then we do a few collab videos here and there, helping out on the island, working together on the gym, training, etc... The point is, once they see we're buddies, my army will join your loyal simps. Increase people defending you and the trolls will either try and fight it for too long making them look obsessive and not belieable or they just shut up. Always works."

Maker stepped back. "The battle is a must though." A mischievous glow in her eyes as she looked at Naka. "I want to fight that Infernape of yours." She then went back to normal. She placed her hands behind her back and rocked back and forth.

Huh, Maker wasn't so bad. She chuckled and rolled her eyes at the statement about the tape. Naka didn't even show anything bad, it was full-on frustrating tease with no satisfaction, but she probably wouldn't want to see her brother doing anything like that, even if it wasn't much but the first thirty seconds.

But having a tsundere on her side? Yes, that was definitely a good idea. She smirked as Maker seemed to be getting hyped up at their new team-up, giggling. It almost felt good that Maker did her homework though. Normal people who tried scratching the surface didn't know who she was in relation to the Guardian Researcher, but snippets of her pictures were shown on the internet and newspapers, so it wasn't hard for Maker to make the distinction.

Though, something about the whole Team Rocket thing still worried her. Regardless, she listened to Maker's plan, smiling at the idea of a shared beach photo shoot. She liked this idea, of helping to repair her reputation bit by bit and joining armies with her. She chuckled at the thought of the battle being mandatory, nodding. "Well, if there won't be a huge group of people watching, then definitely."

As if summoned, Hanu broke from his PokeBall, puffing out his chest and then chittering from his giggle. Naka sighed, shaking her head. "Well, this is Hanu." He squeaked and approached Maker, smelling the scent of many Fire-Types on her. He hopped a bit, seemingly excited to meet her. He walked around her, curiosity getting the better of him as he wanted to make sure she wasn't a Pokemon, too.

That's when she was reminded of something. "So, uh... What do you think about Ron? What's his relationship like with you and your other sister? He seemed like he wanted to distance himself from you guys." She asked, wanting to get to the bottom of his behavior.

Maker's eyes sparkled at the sight of the Infernape. She stepped closer and placed her index finger to her lips. Her blue eyes examined the flaming ape for a bit. “Amazing.”

She stepped closer and grabbed his right hand. “Not only is he bigger than normal but these knuckles are rough!” She passed her finger over Hanu’s blue fist. “What a handsome Infernape!”

Maker let go with a smile. “I would say he's at par with mine in regards to strength. But, you might have a bit more experience.”

As she checked Hanu’s fur by passing her fingers through the hair on his arms, Maker continued the conversation. “Why do you want to know about us? Ron not telling you or you haven't asked him?”

Hanu was ecstatic at the attention, barely able to keep himself from standing still. When he heard that Maker’s own Infernape had less experience than he did, his chest puffed out with pride. Naka smiled, giving her some information on Hanu’s state. “Iron Fist, his ability. I had him for twelve years and has been reliable, even when he was a misfit of a Chimchar. He taught me a lot about how to be a good trainer.” She smiled, squeezing Hanu’s shoulder, earning a pleased coo.

At the other questions, Naka sighed. “Well, I tried asking, gently of course. He didn’t tell me. A master at topic deflection.” She chuckled. “And honestly, I didn’t want to push him too hard. It’s already obvious that he has attachment issues. He wants to be close to people but he can’t allow himself because he’s afraid he’ll lose them, and he especially doesn’t want it to be his fault. I already surmised it must’ve been family, but he never talks about his family, so I didn’t want to push too hard. I know it’s practically got his soul wrapped tightly and weighed down by the chains of grief and vengeance.” She sighed, looking back at Maker. “Sorry. I’m just… curious. But I don’t want to ask him those questions when I know he won’t answer.”

“Pft. What a crybaby.” Maker chuckled and stepped back from Hanu, giving him a pat on his arm. “Vengeance, I can't afford to lose people wha wha.” Maker did her best Ron crying impression.

“We lost our mother. To team Rocket of course.” Maker's expression changed to a softer one. “We all went through hell because of it, but Ron decided he needed to avenge her or something. Honestly, I just think he couldn't stand looking at me and Azumi. We look a lot like her.” Maker sighed and looked at the battlefield through the glass. “Probably why we all chase power in our own way.”

Naka raised her eyebrow when Maker mocked Ron, but honestly - given what Ron had been doing, being so distant from family - she couldn’t blame her. She nodded as Maker continued, humming as she looked out towards the battlefield with her. “I understand. When I was younger, I was bullied and was confused with the world. So I seek to understand, given I’m a researcher. But I guess it’s so I can have better control of what’s around me, too, so I fight like a cop-sanctioned vigilante.” She chuckled, shaking her head. “I get it though. Lost my brother due to Team Rocket. He’s still alive, but he’s just… a complete 180 of himself.” Her gaze fell, downcast.

Hanu whined, shambling up to her and pressing his forehead against her shoulder, his hand coming up to press his knuckles against her collarbone. Naka smiled, holding his hand. “But I know I’m not alone, and I won’t let what I’ve lost and suffered stop me. No one else will do it for me anyway.” She chuckled. “My only thing is… I just hope Ron learns how to be more optimistic because whatever he thinks will get him killed.” She sighed, shaking her head. “Sorry, heh, didn’t mean to get so sad. So, Maker…” She smirked, looking over her shoulder. “Wanna see what Hanu’s made of?”

Maker didn't say anything, just listened quietly. Her expression didn't really change much, like if she was just waiting for Naka to finish. When she finally did, Maker smiled at the challenge. “About time.”

They had to leave the small room and head down to the battlefield. Maker removed her sweater due to the increased temperature. She walked over to her side. Once there, there was a small staircase that led up to a throne. She walked up and sat on it. On the arm rest there was a small section for Poke Balls.

“Does three on three sound good to you?”

Naka nodded, smiling as she stared at the throne with some interest. When was this here? Was it new since Maker became a stand-in? “Sure thing.” That’s when she realized. Her Flareon was downstairs with Ron. She sighed. “Should we get Ron to come with us? My Flareon won’t leave his side ever since that kid dropped the ball on him like that.” She gave a nervous chuckle.

“Ron? Ugh, fine.” Maker touched the screen on the Rotomphone that popped in front of her. “Send my stupid brother over to the bleachers. Don’t give him sunblock.” She smirked before twirling an Ultra Ball on her finger, throwing in the air as she stood up and catching it with her other hand. “Let’s do this!”

A large screen appeared on the side, with Maker’s and Naka’s information and profile picture. The screen was taken over by an AI fluffy chibi Flareon dancing on the corner. It held up a vs sign and began talking. “The Cinnabar gym leader, the volcanic princess, May-ker! VERSUS! The challenger from Sinnoh! The Guardian Researcher, Nah-ka-no!”

The small AI took a deep breath and shouted, “Begin!”

“Since Flareon isn’t ready, Goku!”

The Ultra Ball spun in the air until it hit the ground, allowing the flaming ape Pokemon to come out. The Infernape emerged with a roar, slamming his fists on his chest and making the flame on his head explode.

Naka smirked as she got into position, chuckling at the cute little Flareon AI talking with an exaggerated accent. She watched as Maker’s Infernape was revealed, and it was definite that this Infernape was strong. Naka’s Infernape, who was by her side this entire time, jumped into the battlefield, flaring his head flame with little effort as Hanu grinned cheekily at the other Infernape.

After many years of training Hanu, he stood still, patiently waiting while his limbs were bent and ready to spring into action. Naka smirked, watching Goku and Maker intently.

“Let’s start with the normal routine, Goku.” Maker crossed her arms as her eyes focused on the field.

The flaming ape smirked and stretched out his hand towards Hanu. He folded his fingers towards him, daring the bigger Infernape to attack, Taunt. The monkey wasn’t done just yet. As he took a step back, he then shot forward with Mach Punch. His fist ignited with energy as he lunged towards Hanu, looking to land the first hit.

There weren't any other moves Hanu liked to use that weren’t attacks anyway, so while it did irk him, he didn’t really care. He saw the Mach Punch and made a move of his own, his fist igniting with energy and lunging towards Goku to smash fists with a Mach Punch of his own, his Iron Fist making his hands a lot tougher. Using the momentum of his body that wanted to lean to the side, he used his other hand - glowing with sky energy from Aerial Ace - to do an uppercut towards Goku.

The hit landed as Goku was shot back from the encounter. The ape hit the ground a couple times before springing up on his feet once more. He spit at the ground next to him and wiped his cheek. Maker seemed to get the same smirky smile, probably influenced by her brother.

“Give ‘em a taste of their own medicine!”

Goku rushed ahead. His head tucked to try and get more momentum. As he zeroed in on his target he swerved to the left, right, left again and so on until he gained enough momentum to pull off Acrobatics. The ape jumped around his target looking for an opening and getting ready to strike.

Unfortunately for Goku, Hanu has had quite the experience in dealing with jumpy monkeys. Bending down, he waited for Goku to go in for the attack. When he got a good idea of where Goku would end up, his body glowed with earthen yellow energy before smashing the ground with both fists, sharp rocks erupting up and towards Goku with Stone Edge.

The attack wasn’t to actually hit Goku, but distract him as Hanu rushed in with Mach Punch, lunging towards him when Goku’s busy.

The stones were annoying, but since Goku was already in the groove, he used his Acrobatics to jump around them, using them as an impulse to send himself flying towards Hanu. Mach Punch versus Acrobatics as the two clashed. Maker’s Infernape landed and inflated his chest, Bulk Up.

“We’re just warming up, Naka!”

The Taunt wore off, and Hanu felt his mind was clearer. Naka just smirked at Maker’s comment, relaxing from her stance as she got more focused. “Us too.” She hummed, eyes on Goku. “Transform the battlefield, Hanu.”

Hanu screeched and smashed his foot into the ground, sending large sharp stones with Stone Edge with a kick every which way, creating a rocky maze. He then disappeared behind stone, the only thing in his spot was a shallow hole within a rock on the battlefield.

Goku weaved between the stones, only to find his opponent had disappeared. “Fine, we can wait. Bulk Up!” Maker called out, her eyes searching for the enemy.

Goku took in a big breath, once again inflating his muscles and chest while doing so. He braced himself for impact. Once Hanu made his move, Goku’s fist glowed with energy, ready to reply with a Mach Punch of his own.

It was during the last legs of Bulk Up did Hanu emerge from having made a tunnel that was close to the surface enough to make his emergence quick, having grabbed a splinter of rock to use as a sort of shield while his other fist glowed with earthen energy to swipe up at the Goku above him.

Just what Goku wanted, face to face with someone at his level. It was like fighting a taller version of him. His fist shattered the improvised shield from Hanu while he received the impact from the Dig attack. But that only cracked a smile on the ape as Hanu’s fist pressed against cheek. Goku slowly forced his face to face his opponent. His nose flared as fighting energy began to cover his entire body.

“Yes! This is what we want! Close Combat!” She yelled at the top of her lungs.

Goku roared as he spread his arms wide up, pumped his fists together in front of his chest, beat his chest with rage and then started swinging. Arms, legs, elbows, knees, Goku was using every part of his body to attack his enemy. Using his knowledge in martial arts, knowing very well they both had a similar fighting style, the burning Pokemon threw everything at Hanu!

“Match it!” They both saw the Close Combat, and Hanu wanted to show off his martial skill. His body glowed with the same energy as he defensively and offensively fought back, using every part of his body as well to attack Goku. A manic grin spread across Hanu’s face, enjoying testing his mettle against a similar Pokémon to see where he stood, as well as just having fun fighting.

Maker crossed her arms and threw her head back in laughter. The joy of the battle poured out of her soul as she pointed at Naka. “Now, let’s see who’s fire burns brighter! Backup Goku!”

As the two apes traded blow for blow, the fists clashed once more before Goku jumped back. He took in a deep breath as the flames above his head blew out. Silence covered the arena for a second before…

Boom!

Goku’s Blaze ability activated, igniting his head with a powerful blast of fire. The fire burned brightly, from red and fading to white towards the never ending tip. His eyes flared with white energy as the Infernape snarled flames from his nostrils. Goku roared at the sky and beat his chest wildly.

“Let’s pour everything we have into this, Nakano! Flare Blitz!” Maker’s eyes seemed to burn just like her Pokemon’s as she eagerly watched Goku.

He smashed the ground, cracking the earth beneath him. The flames burned brighter while his body became covered in them. Becoming the brightest spot in the volcano, Goku charged ahead!

Naka smirked, feeling the heat not just on her skin, but in her soul. This was truly a fun and exhilarating battle. “Hanu, Flare Blitz!” Her Infernape screeched before cloaking himself in flames. Not in a dazzle of powerful flames like Goku’s, but there was a finesse to the cloaking, the fire on his head swirling around his body before suddenly cloaking him as he charged ahead, creating a trail of fire as he went.

Boom!

The flames scattered across the field, the heat wave visible from the intensity of the situation. Maker shielded her face, but the smirk on her face showed exactly who her older brother was. Speaking of the devil, Ron walked in in time to see the collision, his smile showing how amusing the sight was.

The explosion shook the hanging arena over the volcano, the chains rattled and the smoke spread quickly. Maker stood up and waved the smoke from her face. Her blue eyes scanned the area to find the result of the clash. There on the ground laid Goku, breathing heavily. The flaming ape raised a thumbs up and then dropped his hand on the ground.

Hanu, bruised and scuffed, tried to get up, only to fall in time with Goku’s falling thumbs up.

“Great job, that was amazing!” Maker returned the exhausted Infernape. “Ready for round two, Naka? We were just warming up!”

Naka returned her monkey, smiling as Maker asked if she was ready. “Hell yeah!” She noticed Ron had finally appeared, her Flareon walking beside him. She smiled at Ron, waving her arm to greet him. She then looked at her Flareon. “Alright, Fluffy. You’re up.”

Fluffy’s jaw dropped. Him? In there? The last gym challenge he did was back in Hoenn. It’s been years...

With a shake of his head, he bounded forward onto the field, puffing up his furry coat as heat distorted the air around him, building up his internal temperature.

Maker giggled and placed her index finger along her lower lip. “Well, well, this is going to be an interesting battle. You two have the honor to not only battle me, but also the mascot of the Cinnabar Island Gym. The cutest, coolest, smartest and fluffiest, Flareon ever. Let’s go, Eve!”

A Luxury Ball was tossed high into the air before it opened up and sent a blast of hot energy crashing to the ground. The Flareon materialized, appearing sitting down and licking her paw calmly. She slowly opened her eyes, flashing her eyelashes while her blue eyes set on her opponent. She lifted her behind and stretched out her red claws on the ground.

The female was smaller than Fluffy, but her chest was puffier which made it look like she was inflating her chest. The redness of her fur was also brighter, combined with an almost white chest, tail and top of her head. Eve let out a loud meow, which caused Luz’s ears to perk up, catching her attention to the match.

“Ready?” Maker called out, “Let’s start with an obvious move, Attract!”

Eve sat down and wrapped her puffy tail around her legs while opening her eyes and letting out a soft purr towards the male counterpart, simulating a mating call.

“Then, Curse!”

After her attempt to lure Fluffy with her good looks, Flareon closed her eyes as purple will-o-wisp began to appear and float around her.

Fluffy saw his opponent was another Flareon, and his ears drooped. His gaze anxiously fell on the nearby Espeon, his muscles going taut in preparation to fight. It wasn’t that he was scared of this Flareon, he was just concerned about Luz’s take on the battle.

When the first move was called, he acted instinctually without Naka’s guidance. A green barrier formed around him. While he did hear the mating call, its attempt to try and inflict infatuation did nothing thanks to Protect. He growled, even yowling in anger at the cheap move. ‘Luz is the only one for me!’

Naka chuckled, crossing her arms over her chest as she saw the rising rage in Fluffy, his body emanating with heat. “Fluffy, let’s be smart about this. Sand Attack.” With a huff, Fluffy dove forward and spun around, sending out a wave of sand towards the other side of the field. He smirked, wanting to make that Flareon mad for getting her fur all dirty.

“Sand-attack? Ugh, rude!” Maker made a disgusted face while Eve went into action on her own.

The flame Eevee moved across the field with Quick Attack, easily going around the wave of sand thrown at her. As she moved behind her opponent, she jumped from side to side to try and get him off track, before going in for a pounce on Fluffy. She then jumped back and let out a cute Yawn towards him.

“Quick Attack!” Fluffy narrowly avoided the Quick Attack as the other Flareon jumped at him, only using it to avoid the attack and go back to the other side of the field. As soon as she heard the sound ‘ya’ leave Maker’s lips, she commanded again. “Protect!”

Fluffy created a green barrier, protecting himself from the Yawn’s effects. To put on the pressure, he flipped around to use Swift from his tail, glowing stars shooting out of the fluff in a wave as they slightly homed in on Eve’s position.

“That's it?” Maker crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow, surprisingly at the same time as Ron.

Eve closed her eyes as the Swift and then shook her head. She bared her fangs, challenging the opponent to attack. “Coward.”

“Come on, Eve, pyro smash!”

Eve leaned back and then shot forward once more. Her Quick Attack activated, closing her distance between the two. She landed in front of Fluffy and ram straight at him. However, that wasn't her main intention. With Fluffy busy dealing with her Quick Attack, Eve ignited her fur. The flames surrounded her as she lunged towards Fluffy with Flare Blitz!

Naka could tell Maker was pretty disappointed. She chuckled, shrugging her shoulders as she made her own commands. “Iron Tail.” Fluffy watched as Eve got close with Quick Attack, jumping back with a back flip to give himself more time to use Iron Tail, only to do a forward flip right as Eve’s body burst with flames, his steely tail aiming for Eve’s head to make her crash into the ground. Sure, if it hit, the metal tail would burn and it would hurt Fluffy, but this was better than getting slammed into by a Flare Blitz.

“Well, this isn’t an excuse, but the last time Fluffy fought in a gym was about five or six years ago.” She chuckled. “He’s a little rusty.”

The flame-covered Eve collided against the Iron Tail. The power of Flare Blitz against that of Fluffy’s steel type attack, overcame the counter against Eve. She powered through and burst over her opponent.

“I can tell.” Maker replied with a smirk.

Eve landed on her feet and quickly turned to face her opponent once more. The female Flareon began purring in the direction of Fluffy once more, using Attract to try and get her opponent to drop their guard.

“Good follow up, Eve, go for a final blow!”

Eve let out a fierce bark as she leaned back and ignited her fur once more. She blasted towards Fluffy as fast as she could, the Flare Blitz powering her up all the way.

Fluffy was blasted back as the Flare Blitz did its work, and he landed heavily on his feet. He saw the attempt at Attract and used Protect again, not wanting to fall for it at all. However, he realized very belatedly that it was used to get a free hit in. He strained, trying to keep up Protect.

Luck was not on Fluffy’s side. The shield dissipated, and he was blasted back by the Flare Blitz, skidding across the ground and towards Naka’s feet.

He was weak… He needed to get stronger.

Naka can tell her friend wasn’t in the best shape. She kneeled down and picked him up, cradling him in her arms as she kept him close. “You’re okay. You did well despite who you were going against.” She reassured, readying her next Pokéball with a smirk.

“Alright, aces?” She challenged.

Eve puffed her chest up and let out a triumphant bark. Luz’s ears perked up and then replied with a similar bark. Maker smiled and shook her head. “You just have to show off for your sister.”

Maker returned her Flareon and looked at the different Poke Balls aligned next to her throne. “Aces? Well, I usually save Kael for important matches. But my go to for every battle is the Charizard you saw outside.”

Maker put her fingers to her lips and let out a long whistle. A second or so later, a roar was heard and the sound of flapping wings became louder and louder until the shadow of said Charizard covered the outer ring of the volcano. He landed with a loud thud! Even making the chains holding the arena in place shake. The big orange lizard scratched the back of his head while Maker watched confidently.

“Bring it on, Naka.”

Naka simply tossed her ball onto the field and caught it as it blasted the form of her Sceptile onto the field. No fanfare, nothing. Silenus felt the heat all around him, and his eyes zeroed in on the Charizard in front of him. He smirked, making a challenging clicking hiss as his tail swayed.

“Rock Tomb.” Silenus summoned a rock before sending them towards the field instead of the Charizard. Some were tall, others short, and others were smashed into by other rocks to create a sort of sloped ceiling. With a roar, Silenus was ready for battle.

“A rock move?! Oh no!” Maker sarcastically called out as she pretended to faint under the pressure. “Power up!”

Charo roared while his fists gained an orangeish aura. The dragon blasted with a strong swoop of his wings, towards the wall of stones ahead of him.

Smash!

Charizard broke through with a Power Up Punch, of course taking some damage to his wings. But he wasn't done. The airborne fire type looked down at his opponent and shot a long string of flames towards it.

Silenus zipped to the rocks towards the side - able to see where the Charizard was coming from with the glow of his fire. With his body hidden underneath and beside a rock, he waited for the Charizard to come back around after a shattering smash of the rock wall. With speed, he used his tail and legs to kick and hit the shattered airborne rocks towards the Charizard before creating more rocks with Rock Tomb, sending them towards the sides of the gym’s rocky wall. He was giving himself more room to jump that wasn’t on this perilous thin stone slab they call a battlefield. Or whatever it was made of.

Still, to avoid anymore flames, he zipped to those rocky protrusions, using them to give more of a distance and to help confound his opponent.

“Really? Making us chase after you?” Maker sighed, “Fine, Charo, buff up!”

The Charizard slapped away the rocks thrown at him with his wing and then flapped upwards. He elevated up to the outer ring of the volcano and looked down. With a roar the fire breathing dragon began to shake his wings and tail. The Dragon Dance increased his strength and speed.

“Hope you weren’t expecting a Special Attack Charizard, that’s so overdone. Aerial Ace!”
Charo roared and began diving down, gaining a stream of wind around his body before making a sharp turn towards Sceptile.

Naka smirked, watching as the Charizard came down. She didn’t say a thing, so her Sceptile stayed put, bracing for impact. That Aerial Ace was going to hit one way or another, but she was certain her Sceptile could at least take the hit. Still…

“Endure!”

Sceptile’s body glowed as he was hit by the Aerial Ace. She wasn’t sure if it would automatically knock out her Sceptile, but she didn’t want to take that chance.

As the Sceptile was slammed into the rock wall, Naka commanded again. “Endeavor!” Sceptile’s body glowed, his low energy being transferred over to the Charizard, attempting to weaken it.

“Doesn’t matter! We have them where we want them! Finish it!”

Maker watched as the energy hit Charo, the orange fire breather gritting his teeth while his energy got zapped away. Still, he pushed through the attack and ignited his body in flames once more, going straight for a Flare Blitz.

“Stop!”

Charo’s wings expanded just inches from Silenus, extinguishing the flames around him. He slowly began to descend back to the arena.

“I just got a call from the league. I need to do a routine check up tomorrow at One Island.” Maker said with an annoyed tone. “So, I need Charo to rest up until tomorrow.” Maker exhaled loudly to express her frustration when she started walking down from her throne.

Ron shrugged and turned around, heading back to the lobby. Maker, though, walked over to Naka. “Hey you’re a researcher, want to tag along? I can request a permit and get it expedited for tomorrow. You never know what rare fire types might come out. Plus, there’s these awesome hot springs. Also, we can ditch my brother a bit and hang out. Easier for me to answer questions without him close by. You in?”

Naka and Silenus shared a shocked expression as the fight stopped in a moment of whiplash. Silenus huffed, jumping back to the arena while Naka returned her Sceptile. She watched as Ron left, only to stare blankly at Maker at her proposal.

So… It’s a tie. And they’re going to One Island tomorrow. But why would she need a permit?

The thought struck her that Mt. Ember was there, and Moltres wandered around there quite frequently. Naka had heard about these location permits before. Considering her background and ties to Professor Lucas, she was sure she could get a permit. She smiled, nodding. “Yea, I wouldn’t mind. Let’s get myself a permit then.”

This was going to be a fun little vacation.

"What a place, huh?" Maker wiped the sweat off her forehead and looked at the looming Mt. Ember before them. She and Naka had gotten the permit to go do a routine check up on the area. The sun was beaming down on them, the ocean water was surprisingly cool along with the breeze coming off it and the bird Pokemon were loud and flying above them with nothing to worry about. "It's a great place to catch Slugma here. I caught a few."

Maker looked up at the sound of her Charizard roaring. The orange lizard had taken to the sky as soon as Furia had joined the party. However, the flaming badger was not impressed. He had wings, he was therefore expected to be able to fly. Instead, she was more focused on feeling the hot sand in her paws. Her claws dug into the soft dirt and she could feel the heat radiating from it.

"Looks like Furia is more comfortable away from Ron." The substitute gym leader said. "If you go around just fighting everyone, I guess it makes sense." Maker walked up to the badger and scratched her behind the ear, getting some sparkles from the Typhlosion's fur. "But you're a beautiful girl and deserve some girl time." She told Furia, who just closed her eyes and enjoyed the attention. "Come on, Naka. Let's head up the volcano, then we can hit the hot springs."

As they moved on, the fire type Pokemon aronud the area seemed to not care much for the visitors. The wild Pokemon had gotten used to having someone with high level fire types coming in to check on them. Some of the smaller ones would hide behind their parents while the more accostumbed ones would even get close to see if they could get some treats.

"Usually I bring my Rapidash, Roy. But, he got entangled in a love triangle with a Stantler and Arcanine. So while things cool down, he's banned from the routine." Maker giggled a bit, "Seriously, why are guys like that? Speaking of guys..." Maker began walking up the trail leading to the top of the Volcano. "What's up with you and my brother? Why even stick around someone like that? I love him and everything, but I would not recommend him as a partner to anyone. I get you want to fix him, but why not get someone who doesn't need fixing?"

Having received her permit early this morning, Naka found herself on Mt. Ember.

One Island - also known as Knot Island - has changed quite considerably. One Island Town is now a city, there's more land that leads into Kindle Road and over to Mt. Ember. Treasure Beach became a tourist place, as well, even if tourists don't come here that often. It's August, so the city was a bit more lively than Naka would ever imagine it to be.

The warmth of the air was actually tolerable around One Island Town, but now that she was on Mt. Ember - a volcano surrounded by sparse forest and rugged plains - the warmth has gotten a bit less tolerable. Her brown camouflage jacket was wrapped around her waist, black backpack around her shoulders, and she had a thermos attached to her backpack to keep her cold water insulated from the warm climate.

"Yeah, definitely a place." She said with a bit of a chuckle, her attempt at voicing humor doing nothing to hide the weariness in her voice from how hot it all was.

It just seemed like the closer they got to the volcano, the hotter it got.

Naka had taken some precautions to go to a hot place like this, as she was diagnosed with hypohidrosis - a condition that causes the person to sweat less than average and it can affect either the whole body or parts of the body. Parts that sweat on Naka are her armpits, but that's it. She doesn't sweat much anywhere else. When she does, it just feels clammy but no beads of sweat are released, so she made sure to pack cooling towels that stay cool and damp when watered for a few hours, plenty of water bottles in her insulated backpack, and she lathered her skin in a special sunscreen lotion that would help keep her body cool and not burn while she was out here.

Mt. Ember was a home for rugged Pokemon and Fire-Types, as well as a great place to find Fire Stones of particularly high grade. While high grade is still rare, it's made easier when in a place full of Type Energy to help form these evolutionary stones. Still, it required people to dig - and considering Moltres calls this place home and Mt. Ember is a dormant volcano with pockets of lava - digging was a really bad idea.

Naka looked over the rugged sparse forest. Most of these trees were knocked over, petrified, burnt to a crisp, or were hardy trees that managed to survive the onslaught of nearby Pokemon. Some of these trees were inhabited by Spearow and Fearow, Machop and Machoke trained, Geodude and Graveler were expertly hidden along the sloped cliffs and paths, and Ponyta and Rapidash show their dexterity of the rugged hills by running through like they were Gogoat. Magmar skulk around near the cave entrances, looking for food that haven't been found or were discarded by the Spearow and Fearow, Magby hiding nearby if there were any.

Aside from Slugma and Magcargo - as Maker confirmed - these Pokemon they were seeing were essentially the extent of the Pokemon found on Mt. Ember. Well, that would've been the case 17 years ago.

As people came and went and as Pokemon migrated or found themselves at home within Mt. Ember, more Pokemon could be found here. Naka found paw tracks of Houndour and Houndoom, or ones she guessed were of the two Dark/Fire-Types, and were likely hiding somewhere within the mountain until nightfall. Naka can hear Skarmory cawing, likely ones migrating from or to Johto. Torkoal, Numel, and Camerupt - while rare - could be found here, as well. In fact, Naka saw a Numel and Torkoal pair peer out from the distant cave entrance before retreating inside.

It was likely that Old Ambers and other fossils could be found within Mt. Ember, or that the Charmander line could be found here naturally. With how hot it was, she could understand why Zubat wouldn't ever touch this place.

Maker definitely must have been here plenty, because Pokemon didn't seem to cower from her. Naka, they seemed to be a bit more wary of, but they certainly were used to Maker enough to regard Naka with more curiosity than outright hostility.

Naka watched as Charo flew into the air, chuckling at his gusto. Meanwhile, the Sceptile beside her raised an eyebrow at his display, only to have his eyes travel back down to Furia, who looked unimpressed and busied herself with the hot earth. It was sandy here until they walked further in, sand turning into rock.

But before they went, Silenus found the hot sand lovely. Furia's own interest in the sand had Silenus realize just how good it felt. It should burn his feet, but he found himself, going on all fours and burying his snout into the sand with his eyes closed. He exhaled, bits of sand flying up and landing close nearby.

He shook his head and got up, giving a soft click of appreciation for the sand before moving along with the group.

Naka's Flareon and Pichu were also out of their Pokeballs. Fluffy walked close to Naka's heel while Pichu clutched onto Naka's blonde hair, riding atop her head.

Naka nodded as Maker commented on Furia's behavior, smiling. "Yeah, he's always got that tense energy, like he's looking for a reason to fight. At least here, she can relax." That's when Naka realized something... What if Furia just wanted to get away from the expectation of being strong? Sure, that was the thing she wanted to become before she evolved, and it was taken from her, putting blame on Ron for the evolution. However, maybe Furia wanted to be stronger for Ron, and the fact that she thinks she isn't was enough for Ron put a lot of pressure and stress for her.

Being out here must feel like a vacation. Naka had no idea Furia's burdens were this heavy.

She gave Furia an appreciative look before looking back at Maker. "Yeah, it does. I'm glad she's out here with us. Must feel like a vacation." She gave a light-hearted chuckle. She wasn't close enough to Furia to just go up to her and pet her like that, but her words conveyed warmth. Maybe that was enough.

Naka nodded as she and her Pokemon followed Maker up the mountain. Some rambunctious Ponyta ran up to Naka, snorted and neighed as their forelegs stretched out, before bounding in a circle and running off. Naka chuckled, watching as the Ponyta ran circles around their stationary parent.

A Magmar with a Magby behind her approached the two humans, leaning forward curiously, eyes glinting. Naka could tell the Magmar was pleading, and it was likely that the food here was pretty sparse. Looking around, she noticed some berries. Pulling out two Razz Berries, she gave the two to the Magmar, who puffed out soft embers of gratitude with a happy look before running off to eat their food in peace.

Naka was sure Pokemon would be more interested in her now that she did that, but she couldn't care.

As they traveled further, Naka was starting to see other Pokemon, like Growlithe and Arcanine, and even Stantler. She chuckled at Maker's story about Roy's love triangle, shaking her head. "Ahh... That's actually pretty funny."

But when the topic of Ron came up, Naka looked back at Maker with a resigned smile. "Ah... That."

She chuckled. "I know you must have seen my interview with the news people in Snowpoint City. Trying to explain the nuances of our relationship would take too long, so I opted with the best thing people would assume the most. I don't want to fix Ron." She amended as she looked up the mountain, pulling out her thermos to drink, but speaking before she took a sip. "He dies to have social interaction, but has kept himself from having any because he's afraid of losing again. The most I can do is be there for him and support him." She took a sip, then continued.

"People who are struggling and push others away are the people who need companionship the most. As much as it kills him emotionally to have me there with him and seeing me get hurt - as he thinks its because of him - I can see that he enjoys my company. Hopefully, with my constant presence, he'll realize he won't have to be afraid of forming relations with others anymore. But I'm sure that won't go away until Team Rocket is dealt with." She huffed. "Regardless, I'm giving him a reason to keep living beyond Team Rocket. Because, when someone who is full of vengeance loses the object of that vengeance, they're going to become lost and they'll need someone to return to."

She then chuckled. "Besides, nobody else is as interesting as him, as I'm into bad boys anyway." She gave an impish smirk. "I want people to understand the dangers I get into because they're going through it themselves, but I don't want people to be too overly careful and impose upon my freedom to do what I think is right. Just as I don't want others to do that to me, I don't want to stop Ron from going on this vengeance path, but I do want him to be more careful. Hopefully, his reluctant attachment to me will do that passively." She smiled wide, feeling rather smug for tricking him with her womanly wiles, but it's all to keep him safe.

She looked back at Maker, wanting to ask something of her. "So, you mentioned you have a sister. What's she like?" Time to get to know Ron's family on the side, since he was so reluctant to even go to Maker to begin with.
