Futuristic Operation: Colony Salvage

TheCommoner

Loyal Guardsman
In the 24th Century, Mankind has made peace with the fact that we weren't alone in the Galaxy. Unified under one banner, we took to the stars, colonized worlds, and established territory in a dangerous galaxy. Alongside ever-evolving technology, it was discovered that there exists a certain DNA combination that allows certain individuals to be endowed with Psychic abilities, albeit with some particularly dangerous drawbacks.

The Planet Nurita, known at one point as the most desirable planet in the Federation of Man's collection. The environment was utopic. The minerals abundant. And the water bountiful and fresh. Such a peaceful world...

But 10 years ago, all contact with the planet ceased. It seemed to vanish from the very solar system it resided in. It was known as a rather tragic day, across the galaxy. For the Federation, it was the second most hyped up planet next to Earth, and for others, they sought to strip such a valuable planet away from the Federation. But now, it seemed no one would have it. Following a week long funeral rite for Nurita and her inhabitants, the Federation declared the planet lost.

...
The year is 2587, across human standards. As life in the Milky Way pressed onwards, word spread around about how distress signals were being received in the Leurel System, located in the Perseus Arm. These signals, mostly received from neighboring planets and distant space stations, were astonished to find that these distress signals were coming from a planet that claimed to be Nurita! Upon investigation, however, it was found that the bountiful paradise world had been utterly desecrated. The oceans had dried up, the plant life had been dead for so long all that remained were hollow, barren trees. The population of Nurita, it seemed, had either perished, or were converted into horrific monsters. Though the planet is no longer habitable on the surface, the Underground had not been scanned thoroughly. Rumors of untold riches and possibly survivors began to circulate...

If anyone has questions, feel free to ask! I'm still making sure everything is fine-tuned enough to function properly.

After reading through the lore any of the races a no go fir a character?
I've done what I could to be accommodating for a character of any species, including ones not listed if you found none of them to your liking.

Example: Anacrids may be treated as a colossal danger, but those that were disconnected from the Hive Mind start displaying sapience.

Likewise with denizens of Unreality. While a certain sect of them are treated unanimously as a threat, there have been enough outliers to have the galaxy realize that they are not all Space Demons out for blood.

As someone who's very big on large scale ideas like this I'm very much interested. Though before I go to far into the rabbit hole known as character creation I've got a few questions.

1. What kind of jobs/roles are acceptable? It's a bit vague in the cs which isn't really an issue for me personally as I intend to be a field tech/freelance agent type character, but it would be nice to have a clear idea of what kind of skill sets characters should have for the story you're trying to lead.

2. What other kinds of races exist? I'm not asking for as much detail as you've put into the factions, but from personal experience I can say that it can be daunting to make a character only to need to tweak potentially major aspects because an idea got a bit too big for what the rp creator wants to allow at the start.

3. Continuing the above question, what are some of the upper limitations on powers to the psychic genes? Again, I personally don't intend to do anything remotely significant, but knowing what the upper limits for the various powers would be helpful for those tense rp moments during climactic events when someone is going to do something crazy.

4. My last question is in regards to the current character idea I have. Can/do the demons of unreality possess the ability to have the psychic gene? I may have missed it but I don't recall reading if they can have it.

1. Anything from being an actual laborer to being a combat oriented escort, someone who can hack machines, keep a team alive, navigate, pick off high value targets, etc. If your skillset revolves around extracting resources, or ensuring the survivability of those extracting the resources, or even both, Galactic Salvage Corporation welcomes you.

2. So you know all of the nondescript aliens that pepper the populace of Star Wars? Aliens of all shapes and sizes exist in the Milky Way. I even just got through approving a species called the "Scrofians" (Space Pigs), written by Abstracty Abstracty as a vassal species to the Federation of Man. As long as you can provide a physical description, and maybe a few trivia facets of their culture, I won't take up issue with new aliens.

3. Naturally, the more powerful the Psychic ability you're unleashing, the more likely you are to face Perils. In a more Doylist example, let's say we have a Pyromancer who has spent the last 4 posts lobbing explosive fireballs and erecting walls of fire. If the 5th post contains yet more Fire being generated, that would likely be grounds for the player in question to start generating Psychic Perils to churn up some drama. Of course, if it were more powerful uses of fire, like calling down building-busting meteors, you would have fewer back-to-back posts of sustained meteors until the Perils kick in. While the Psychic Gene itself is limited only by the creativity of its User, Galactic Salvage Corporation encourages moderation of your abilities, as calling down meteors and hurricanes risks destroying resources and high value materials.

4. All denizens of Unreality wield the Psychic Gene. They can be perceived by the galaxy at large because of it. Their grasp over it is determined by the folklore they're born from and their devotion to enhancing it.

I hope this answers your questions

This sounds dope! if you are still looking for people I wouldn't mind joining

I’m interested! But I mainly access the site from my phone, and I’m having difficulty reading through the lore. (Half is cut off on the right side of the information in the accordion coding)

I noticed that too. I was able to counteract that on my phone by using the "view desktop site" button.

If that option isn't available for you, I'll remove the accordion when I clock out of work today.
